The Idea of Watermarking (and how to do it)

As an aspiring photographer, there is a small (and optional) rule that we follow and that is to watermark your work. This is so that people will know who originally took it (if the logo is identifiable) and to prove that you own the photo.

I’ve done it a few times and you can see them mostly the events gallery because those pictures were hard to take as they require me to go outside and talk to people (and I’m introverted af!).

But what if there is a photo you took and you need to post it immediately? How will you watermark it? Is it even worth watermarking?

This post will answer that!

If you follow me on social media and you’re part of the Phandom, then ya’ll should have seen this photo being circulated all over Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram during the last two days.

This my fellow readers is my meet and greet photo with Dan and Phil during the Cool For Summer Festival in Sydney Olympic Park in 2017. I got a Platinum VIP pass so it means not only I get to meet Dan and Phil but I also get first priority entry. I was supposed to be second in line but I swapped places with my friend Tani and I became third in line.

This is basically what happened during the meet and greet:

So I walked in and gave Dan and Phil a hug. But before that, I played Hello Internet and Dan wanted to walk away. Yup… I actually had bluetooth speakers on me and blasted Dan’s first video before hugging them. But Dan wasn’t upset, he laughed. He said that playing that was ‘iconic’ then we hugged. (And if you’re concerned, I only played ‘Hi my name is Dan’ then stopped the video).

I hugged Dan first then Phil. After hugging they signed my book and talked about TATINOF then told them about my journalism assignment that I used the tour for it and got a B+ on it and they told me to give a shout out to the journalism teacher.

Then came the pose. I told them ‘well, since you’ve been talking about Lazytown in your previous live streams, I want to do the iconic sportarobbie pose from season 3’

I showed the the pose on my iPod and Dan then asked who is robbie rotten. He first suggested me but i said i wanted dan to do it. We did the pose i wanted and surprisingly, that pose was reposted multiple times on Instagram and Tumblr.

I told them about the Philippine phandom and they also told me to give them a shout out well. Sadly couldn’t be recorded.

I then said thank you and left happy.

As stated above, the photo was reposted multiple times on social media and spread like wildfire, gaining 3k+ likes as I’m writing this post right now. TBH, I pretty much expected that to happen since the pose is just soo good!

Since I knew that this photo will eventually spread, I’ve decided to watermark my image. I was reading a few comments about this in both Twitter and Instagram about my decision and only a few people were butt hurt over my decision. They think its problematic and just a stupid of me to do it. But I don’t care since it’s my photo + I told my family and friends about my decision and they think it was a good idea, that it was smart of me to do so.

I’ve seen my fair share of mass repost of meet and greet photos and they were used in edits, videos and etc that it’s a thing in the phandom to crop the fan out. TBH, I don’t care if I get cropped out but I do care when they claim the photo as theirs without crediting the original owner. I’ve seen people who were literally upset when this happened to them (from m&g pics to art edits) and it sucks.

I didn’t want to watermark my pictures in the first place but unfortunately I posted a pic from TATINOF last year and people used it, making it look like its their photo. I wasn’t credited whatsoever (and it was a hard photo to take btw).

The photo I’m talking about is this:

It was a scene from TATINOF Sydney that I took using my iPad and not only people were mad at me for taking this photo, but used it in their ‘oh it’s been x months since TATINOF’ and stuff like that. And I needed this photo for my journalism assignment btw!

So after I took my meet and greet photo, I went to sit somewhere less hectic  and began to watermark my photo. I posted it and the jokes just keeps on flying about the idea of me watermarking it. Despite most of the comments were about how cute the pic was, how I was a genius for doing this and how Dan is falling towards Phil is just phan goals, but the messages about the watermark hurt me a bit… like 1% damage.

My pose, people can easily crop me out, I’ve seen a few that did and once again… more comments about my decision. Most common is something around the lines off ‘Can’t crop this b*tch out anymore’ and something related to that. So I’ve released a statement on Instagram (where I first shared the pic) and there was lots of support about my choice and people understood why I did it.

Some have also told me that thanks to what I did, they also intend to watermark their future meet and greet pictures as well if they know it will go viral.

The purpose of the watermark is to show/prove that the photo is yours and no one can claim it’s theirs. Its permanent and unless you’re really good with photoshop, it’s hard to get rid off.

When it comes to my professional work, I usually watermark the bottom part of my photo as I want a clear shot of my pic as well as to easily identify that I took it.

Normally, I use Adobe Lightroom to watermark my works but when it comes to meet and greets, you need to upload them fast… Like the first 1 hour fast!

So how did I do it?

A few people asked what app I used to create my watermark. For those who ask, it’s called Enlight and it’s like Photoshop on your phone. It cost $5.99 AUD (but I got it for free when it was App of the Week 2 years ago)

It’s a really good app! I love to play around with it from time to time and IS REALLY USEFUL to fix really bad selfies like this one:

I needed to edit that on the spot! I didn’t want to do it at home! Also this was two selfies, just layered on top of each other and made it black and white cuz the coloured version looked like shit and made it obvious that it was edited.

But asides its use for fixing bad selfies, it’s also good for watermarks. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the PNG file of my logo on my phone so I just wrote my username.

Enlight is really handy and is good for last min edits or quick access to watermarking on the go. It’s also good with edits but that for another post.

Now, every repost of my pose has my username at least spotted in the photo. You can crop me out but my name will still be seen… unless you’re a fan of Dan’s legs… then I have no control over that one.

Sammy Lawrence : So this must be the place that Inky Albarn mentioned, Florence Italy. This city played a huge role in Dante's Inferno and of course, it took part of the Ohkuboverse where two Dokeshi's Shotaro and Emine fought. I must find the Santa Maria Basilica that Inky Albarn is having a private meeting. But...this whole place is crawling with Heartless and I need to get them past through.

Brute Boris : (via radio) Not to mention, but the whole place is guarded by the Para Sorceress Force. All you have to do is meet us there, but don't get caught by the heartless or the para sorceress, make sure to stay clear and make way through.

Sammy Lawrence : Understand. Over and out. Now then, time for me to do a little stealth mission. It's not like I can find anything in Italy. If Italy's the Land of Love, then all the love will be disappear into the darkness. I gotta say it, Italy is one big spaghetti and today I will wait for dinner. Location of the source.

Para Sorceress A : (via communication) Come in, HQ, This is Florence Defense Squad Captain Para. Looks steady as sharp. All squads in command, a black figure with a mask has been spotted in the Italian city of Florence. All squads be prepare for the engagement in battle.

Para Sorceress B : (via communication) This is HQ, squadron in command, the black figure has been heading the Santa Maria at 8 O'clock at sharp. Position in target range, if see you the man in the mask, fire at will!

Drawcia : (via communication) Come in all units of Defense Squad Florence, that man is making a stealthy scene in the city around here, and I bet he's not here for to see the leaning tower of Pisa or the favorite pasta's that every mobster's knows there place. So listen up, all troops. You must find the Queen of the Ink Demon to bring her back to Brooklyn and stop the man from reaching her. I want Sammy Lawrence stopped and buried. Failure is not an option!

Para Sorceress A : 10-4! Copy that!

Drawcia : This better be good. After finding out that I was the one who imprisoned Inky Albarn for her dangerous threats against all life on earth. Her being queen is not just the simple reason of having her way of putting this planet into jeopardy, after reincarnated into a human who does the art and science first. I haven't seen Professor E Gadd's face for a long time since he opened his science corporation in America.

[Radio buzzing]

Para Sorceress A : (via communication) This is Florence Defense Squad captain, we have found the target and beginning to lock-on target. Coordinates set, setting angle, ready and...Huh? what the heck is doing he now? He...He just snapped one of squad member's neck!

Sammy Lawrence : Sould've hired a defense squad for the defense squad. Not really interested with this town's best security there is.

Para Sorceress A : Open fire, now!

Sammy Lawrence : Heh! You're feeble bullets won't touch me! I am a figure cursed with the powers of the Ink! I am capable of being invincible! There's no way that anyone of them will dare stand in my way! Hope I won't be minding destroying children's toys, would they? Take this!

Sammy Lawrence : So this is the Santa Maria Basilica? I wonder what's with missing with the third name? Of course, Novella.

Inky Albarn : You have finally made it, Sammy. I'm impressed passing through the guards of that witch. This is the real Santa Maria, one of earth's finest catholic church that existed within the Ohkuboverse a thousand years ago. This church was off limits due to Soul Eater's existence, but I believe that this is the place where we supposed to meet with the Crona person. Allow me to explain the details for you, friends of the Ink Demon. Thousands of years after Demon Vibe was banished into the Shadow Realm, the Ohkuobverse has the very existence when Demon Vibe met the author, Atsushi Ohkubo, as his "Imagniary Friend", but that man was such insolent moron who originally a musician in Japan, these symbols of what we call it "the Eyes of Shadow Realm" were those symbol representing the face of a third-eye demon. But unknown to it, the Ohkuboverse that it exsited wasn't creating from the author's silly imagination, it was Demon Vibe's creation, all of the stuff from the Ohkuboverse were made from these tattle tales we call them Liars. Lies are nothing but false ones came from the speaking tongue of one being that is the king of lies, codename : The Devil.

Brute Boris : So what you're saying is that the Ohkuboverse was created as a facade, it's a like it's a prison created within another realm. Shadow Realm and Realm of Darkness are extremely equivalent with the Heartless.

Inky Albarn : Indeed, the world of Kingdom Hearts was exactly made of Light and Darkness, two forces from the powers of Angel Vibe and Demon Vibe, the two godly beings are entities that are the mother and father of good and evil, Angel Vibe is the mother of hope and the light itself, while Demon Vibe is the vibe of Darkness that brings nothing but death and Destruction. They are the two forces that originated the hope and despair in the Ohkuboverse, and the first story to begin with was the story of a boy who saved his world from death and destruction, caused by his creation the Evangelist.,The Cosmic entity that started it all. After defeating his Creation, Shinra gave birth to his man-made son, Death, and the new world created that existed 1000 years, but for now, it has been destroyed by a Time-traveling entity called the Time Eater that annhilated everyone or sented to their childhoods, including the victims he killed were Shinra Kusakabae and his beloved Iris...

Alice Angel : And the last one was executed right? The one who is the true mother of witchkind, Inca of the Kasugatani family. She has been pulling the strings on the devil's heart and she was the originated the witches in Soul World. Inky Albarn : When I restore the Royal Bloodline, the Ink Demon's legacy will throw one's legacy and spoils the other, then I will make this world supreme into all that monochrome sadness, and then the world will be all yours, Sammy. You and me, a servant that will understand a queen's duty, or I will make you as an apprentice.

Sammy Lawrence : That sounds like not a half bad idea. With more of that to your duties, I will become a prophet for an apprentice for your son's brother. A new born would be a great idea for having a family of your own.

Inky Albarn : That's why I decided to bring this object that I got in my hand from another heartless. The four servants of Demon Vibe have always been adjacently to the hearless and there for, the seven lights are in total. But the order is still incomplete. To make Demon Vibe conquer the Galaxy, we need the Seven Lights and the 13 darknesses in total order to fulfill the duty of my will, then I will restore my family's bloodline.

Brute Boris : Hey, come on, now. I've always been this nervous of having a plan to see what if the world would meet a terrible fate from that guy from Majora's Mask, maybe that should be really the problem, the problem is that how are these heartless are really capable of putting the humans and witches into a conflict. But it wasn't for that Ansem guy, he wouldn't stand a chance to see what Kingdom Hearts have for us store, maybe the World of Light itself might be the connection to Kingdom Hearts, that's how Angel Vibe brought hope in the Ohkuboverse in the first before it was completely destroyed in half.

Crona : Hello, are you supposed to be, Maka Albarn? Wait, you are not the one who I have been looking for. I have been mistaken for you.

Inky Albarn : You are wrong, child. I am Inky Albarn, queen of the Ink Demons, and you are an experiment conducted by Sammy and that heartless witch, Medusa. You were brought into this world to bring death and destruction plagued by the heartless, and that witch is probably one of them, you were bamboozled by becoming a so-called evil god , or a Kishin. However, those so-called Kishins were exterminated by the Demon Kings and witches were sick and tired of it, it's a lie from the devil and there's no such thing as a Kishin, nothing but a heartless coward who wanted to crave the death and destruction by fueling one's lust for power. Ultimate and destructive power!

Crona : So I wasn't going to become a god, becoming heartless. So that means I'm just an experiment created by people and Sammy? I guess the Gorgon sister's were wrong for using me as a puppet on a string. I'm no child to a bunch of witches, just a bunch of heartless.

[DOOR BANG!]

Italian Officer : Hello!? Is anyone in this basilica? Mama Mia! Thanks goodness just what we law officers we're looking for, a hero!

Inky Albarn : ...Excuse me italian gentlemen. What's the problem?

Italian Officer : There's-a a witch floating over the basilica and we need a hero to take that monster down! She must've brought the kid here to assassinate you! Please, you gotta stop that villain and take her out immediately!

Inky Albarn : You look after the Crona child, I'll go deal with a nasty heartless villain that is making a mess in Italy. I shall not let the Royal Bloodline be in vain, whether they like it or not. If they wanted the pain and suffering that much? Then I'll give them Pain and Suffering, those are the best teachers that anyone should know. I always look out for my consort and my son.

Declaration of Nullity of Marriage

FACTS:

Maria Teresa married Rodolfo despite noticing that the latter was an introvert, prone to jealousy and appeared to have no ambition. They had two children. During their marriage, Rodolfo’s attitude worsened, treated  Maria Teresa as a sex slave and even poked a gun in her head due to jealousy which led her to leave their conjugal house together with their children. Maria Teresa supported their children by herself.

On June 3, 1999, Maria Teresa filed a petition for declaration of nullity of marriage by reason of the psychological incapacity of Rodolfo before the RTC of Quezon City. The trial court granted the motion; No collusion was found during the investigation of the Office of the City Prosecutor, and thus was recommended the case on its merits.

A clinical psychologist was presented as an expert witness who conducted interviewed both the spouses and testified that Maria Teresa had an emotionally disturbed personality but was not enough to constitute psychological incapacity and diagnosed Rodolfo with paranoid personality disorder manifested by the latter’s damaging behavior which constitute a severe form of personality disorder. Thus recommended the marriage of spouses Maria Teresa and Rodolfo be annulled due to the latter’s incapacity to perform marital obligation

The office of the Solicitor general failed to comply with the trial court’s order thus the case was submitted for decision. The trial court promulgated its Decision granting the petition for declaration of nullity of marriage.

The Office of the Solicitor filed an appeal before the Court of Appeals when its Motion for Reconsideration was denied for being deemed moot and academic. The said appeal was granted by the Court of Appeals and reversed the decision of the trial court; ruling that the testimony of Dr. Lopez was unreliable for being hearsay. The Court of Appeals also disagreed with Dr. Lopez’s finding that Rodolfo’s behavior descended from psychological illness contemplated under Article 36 of the Family Code.

Maria Teresa filed a Petition for Review on Certiorari when her motion for reconsideration was denied by Court of Appeals. Petitioner argued that based on current jurisprudence, trial courts had a wider discretion on whether expert opinion was needed to prove psychological incapacity

Issue: 

Whether or not the Court of Appeals erred in denying the Petition for Declaration of Nullity of Marriage because the petitioner’s evidence was insufficient to prove that Rodolfo was psychologically incapacitated to fulfill his marital obligations.

Held:

Yes. The Court finds that there was sufficient compliance with Molina to warrant the nullity of petitioner’s marriage with respondent. Petitioner was able to discharge the burden of proof that respondent suffered from psychological incapacity.

The Court of Appeals was also mistaken for giving undue weight to the testimony of Dr. Lopez. Molina does not require a physician to examine a person and declare him/her to be psychological incapacitated. What matters is that the totality of evidence presented establishes the party’s psychological condition. Dr. Lopez’s testimony, as corroborated by petitioner, sufficiently proved that the respondent suffered from psychological incapacity. The respondent’s paranoid personality disorder incapacitated him to fully comprehend and assume the essential obligations of marriage.

The Petition is granted and the marriage of Maria Teresa Tani - De La Fuente and Rodolfo De La Fuente is declared Null and Void. The Decision of the Court of Appeals Reversed  and Set Aside and the Decision of RTC of Quezon city is Reinstated.
