stayed at work four hours past close last night. clocked in, obviously.

glad i did. was able to work without interruption on a problem that was stressing me out, I think I have a game plan to fix it now (details for the curious under readmore)

this is also a test of whether ill get yelled at for working unapproved overtime. I kinda hope not, its nice getting extra money sometimes for working on things i wanna work on anyway. which. capitalism brainrot / burnout risk but ALSO. weh

so we're moving networks for reasons, yeah? everything in this IP space (read: 2/3 of our org) needs to be moved to a new subnet. Whoof.

I fot assigned to move over a bunch of network->serial devices the lab instruments folks use to monitor the freezers n shit. should be easy, theyre all DHCP so i should be able to just move em over

problem 1: ah, rheyre assholes and need to be rebooted before theyll pull new DHCP addresses. Fine, sure, whatever. Spent an hour finagling with it while one of the instrument guys gawked. annoying but fine.

problem 2: ... ah. Their monitoring system doesn't have any way of keeping track of these devices if their IP moves. Not only will they need to manually move everything on this system, but also... ah. Hm. Their system doesn't even fucking detect the sensors after theyve been moved .... .... fuck.

anyway. So last night I dug thru their systems documentation. Turns out each device is connected to the monitoring server over the network via some software that simulates COM ports over TCPIP. So, basically, you go onto the server, run its little wizard and give it an IP, and bam the server now thinks it has stuff connected on COM ports.

(also atound tyis point in the research is when i spent like an hour and a half just getting the testing device i got working. Why did it take so long? ... uhhhhh this ones mostlly because im a dummy lol)

Anyway. I havent successfully gotten a COM port's IP changed just yet, in large part bc the software is DUMB AS HELL. but! I have an idea of how the process should go, and I think I have a rough plan of how to proceed.

Basically, ill need to change the IP on all of these COM ports to the new DHCP address pulled by each device. I'm not 1000% sure where to put these devices, but I'm thinking *not* the client VLAN lol. Maybe the lab equipment VLAN? that sounds better. Oh yeah, anyway, not 1000% sure the best way to get their new dhcp addresses. Last night I was using port mirroring and wireshark to actually see the dhcp response packets, but that will be a HUGE pain for multiple decices. But the alternative is, uh, mashing f5 on the dhcp server and watching for new leases? Which also sounds pretty ass.

Considering I was kind of dead inside last night and by my normal ahift end was atruggling to ficus and live, i think thats solid after-hours progress!! (taking a 20 min break before starting on this helped, lol)

AmazonのFire TVをスリープさせたくなくて調べたらAndroid？のSDK入れてコマンド打てばできるってことだったので言われたとおりに。

以下から「SDK Platform-Tools for Mac をダウンロード」をダウンロード。

ダウンロードしたzipファイルを解凍してできた「platform-tools」フォルダを、例えばアプリケーションフォルダなどへ移動。

.bash_profile あたりでパスを通しておく。

export PATH="$PATH:/Applications/platform-tools"

反映。

source .bash_profile

5555ポートで何かを起動。

adb tcpip 5555

daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037

daemon started successfully error: no devices/emulators found

つないでみる。

adb connect 192.168.3.9:5555 failed to authenticate to 192.168.3.9:5555

認証に失敗したなーと思ったら、fire tv側で「デバッグを許可しますか？」とダイアログが出てるので許可して、再度挑戦。

adb connect 192.168.3.9:5555 already connected to 192.168.3.9:5555

成功したので、adbのシェルで設定。

adb shell settings put secure sleep_timeout 0

これで設定完了。

無事、スリープしなくなったもよう。

（13インチディスプレイに表示しっぱなしにして時計代わりにする運用）

Was up early this morning and went for my run and workout. Ate a ramen for breakfast as usual. All the exercise made me so hungry and I devoured some cheese sandwiches too, before a very light semi vegan lunch, baked beans, avocado etc. Feeling generally healthier lately.

Meanwhile I’ve been coding project BRW. I need 3 things copied off the net and modded. First the TCPIP sockets code which I have, then the toolbox and SWI, also in the bag, finally BytesIO which I’m reading up now. Then, it’s up to me to write a cleverly-tuned parser / filter for all the web data.

The mindspace has been more peaceful for some time since yesterday night. There’s no telling what might happen in Israel or Ukraine, Europe in general and the Moslem world. Here in Malaysia, popular support for Palestine is reaching fever pitch. Shortly an end to many of the old ways?

Feels good to shower in the mornings. And again after dinner. Staying clean and feeling positive. Breaking free of the depressive influence of mind criminals preying on our morally destroyed family. Have to wipe down the hamster nest area behind my bed by 3pm.
