Eddie gave Chris’ shoulder a squeeze before looking around, spotting what looked to be a teacher. Well, they had a clipboard in their hands at least.

Walking toward the teacher like person, Eddie stopped as he got closer, clearing his throat.

“Um, excuse me, are you one of the teachers?”

The teacher turned around to face him, Eddie suddenly a little short on words.

“Oh yea, hi. I uh, I’m Mr. Buck.”

Buck was so excited, listing off a few more pumpkin facts Eddie didn’t know he needed to know; he was starting to see where Christopher got all his little fun facts from.

Buck then got into the science of pumpkins, Eddie checking out somewhere between xylem and phloem, though he was happy to sit and listen to Buck all the same, commenting when he felt necessary.

“I can see why you’re one of Christopher’s favorite teachers.”

Buck ducked his head, but not before Eddie caught the flush of his cheeks.

“Uh, sorry, the um, the science nerd really comes out of me sometimes.”

“I meant that as a good thing. You make things fun to learn, even if I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Buck lit up then, like an honest to god golden retriever, Eddie waiting for his tail to pop out and start wagging. Eddie didn’t know what to do with the fact that he would find that all too endearing.

“My sister is usually the only one who can put up with all my useless facts.”

Eddie shrugged. “You can share your useless science facts with me any day.”

Buck bit at his lower lip, rolling it between his teeth, the movement catching Eddie’s eye.

“Yea, or um you-you could share your-your badass firefighter stories with me.”

Eddie snorted. This man was such a dork. Eddie was in trouble.

this is for the school nurse eddie and gym teacher buck au that i definitely haven't started!

"Happy Nurses' Day!" Buck says first thing in the morning, walking into Eddie's office.

"What's this?" He raises an eyebrow at Buck, as he accepts the piece of paper Buck's offering him a little hesitantly.

"Well, it's national nurses's day and I googled what would be an appropriate gift, or like—" Buck licks his lips and then shakes his head, shrugging. "I don't know, a gesture to show my appreciation."

Eddie studies the drawing in silence, a very subtle and soft smile gracing his lips.

"You drew this?" His gaze lifts and he points at the drawing in his hand.

"Yeah! You like it?"

"Buck, this is really sweet and I appreciate it—" Eddie chuckles, fond and fluttered despite himself. "But I gotta say, thank God you're not the art teacher."

"Hey, I take full offense to that!" Buck frowns, pretending to be hurt but he's biting down a smile of his own. "I happen to think I made a great job. Van Gogh is trembling in his grave as we speak."

"What are these? Are these hands?" Eddie looks down at the drawing. "They look like claws or like— Are we mutants in this card? Is that like, a very specific detail?"

"Fuck you, Diaz!" Buck crackles, despite himself. "I tried, okay? Drawing hands is harder than I thought!"

"The heart is very anatomically incorrect, too, y'know?" Eddie smirks.

Tease tidbit tuesday except its still Monday but I got a busy work day tomorrow

I managed to write some for my teacher AU, though with a few breaks. First I could feel the writer slump slumping so I rewatched The Rookie instead, and now I can feel a migraine coming up. (Been having them a lot, probably should go to the doctor cause the doctor assistant said I take too many ibuprofen for my age but paracetamol just doesn't help)

There’s a moment of silence and then Eddie clears his throat, “Anyway, uh, that’s why I have medical knowledge.”

Buck nods, “Got it.”

“Your turn, what’s up with that firefighter keychain?” Eddie asks him.

Buck laughs softly, “Ah. That. I got it when I was little. I, uh, got hurt a lot. I was stubborn, mostly desperate for attention, good or bad. One day I climbed a tree, loved doing that, so high up I was afraid to go down. Neighbors called 9-1-1 and firefighters showed up. One of the firefighters talked to me up there. I was really sad that day. My parents were out of town, Maddie was gone. I didn’t really want to go home. But he was nice and convinced me to come down with him. He gave me that keychain before they left. I wanted to be a firefighter after that, but life got in the way.”

Eddie laughs, “I can’t imagine you as a firefighter… Or maybe I can. You like helping people.”

Buck takes another bite of the monstrous food. “Maybe in another life. But I’m happy as a history teacher.”

“Me too. That you’re a history teacher, I mean. If you were a firefighter I would never have met you.” Eddie says, cheeks tinted pink.

“Yeah you would’ve,” Christopher says, suddenly in the doorway. He wipes at his eyes and yawns, “You would’ve set the kitchen on fire one day. Mr. B would’ve probably saved you.”

Eddie laughs, making Buck laugh as well. Christopher has a satisfied smirk before he opens the fridge.
