Last song I listened to: "Turn the Lights Back On" by Billy Joel because I am obsesssssssed with it.

Currently reading: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. My son is in deep with this series and he wanted me to read it so I am.

Currently watching: A few things, actually. Miss Scarlet and the Duke (new ep today!), The Floor (I'm a sucker for a trivia show), yet another Scrubs rewatch, and the fam and I are watching Sweet Tooth together.

Currently obsessed with: Honestly, this Billy Joel song is right up there. Also finishing my smut swap, though I have no writing time during the week and cannot seem to focus during the couple of hours I have during the weekend so maybe not 'obsessed' so much as 'freaked out I may have to default for the first time ever' heh. We'll see how today goes. Also I have started jogging for the first time in my life and...I kind of love it??? Who am I?!

🎬 If a movie or show were based on your fic, which fic would you choose and who would you fancast?

Thank you for the ask, @teatotally! 

While I think a mission fic would be fun to see (something like Leverage or Kiss the Messenger), I would LOVE if my Hitman space/sci-fi AU Five Minutes was made into a film/show. The fic has so much potential for incredible acting and cinematography that I think would come across beautifully if it had the right creative team making it.

As for casting: there’s an amazing fancast project for a Netflix series called Burnwood that @apricotbones and @cicaklah created, which stars Rosamund Pike as Diana Burnwood and Mark Strong as Agent 47. I think they would be absolutely fantastic at portraying the hope and melancholy of the fic.

But also I like the idea of the characters’ voice actors playing the parts, with Jane Perry as Diana Burnwood and David Bateson as Agent 47.

Either way, it’s a win-win!

Last song: They Might Be Giants, "Metal Detector." I have been playing TMBG Heardle a lot and it has made me want to listen to Factory Showroom on repeat. My performance on TMBG Heardle is basically a bimodal distribution because either it's an obscure song I've never heard or I can identify it in one second. There is no in-between, except for the ones where the song doesn't actually start at the beginning.

Last show: Game Changer. I subscribe to Dropout solely for Game Changer and Um Actually and it is totally worth it. Hey, no one said I had to list a show with a plot.

Last movie: Like approximately 50% of the internet, Glass Onion. It was really good! I keep thinking about it! It was so good. I feel like it has combined my childhood love for the movie Clue with everyone's distaste for late-stage capitalism (which has been made even more topical with the Twitter dumpster fire), and also you have to like any movie that has Stephen Sondheim and Angela Lansbury playing Among Us.

Currently watching: I realize this is not what this question had in mind but I am really enjoying LIDOM (Dominican Republic winter-league baseball), which I have been watching all season and it is now at the Final Series. I don't know Spanish so now all the Spanish I know is completely random baseball words. But it is actually a whole lot of fun to watch.

Currently reading: Eric Cervini, The Deviant's War: The Homosexual vs. the United States of America. It's nonfiction about pre-Stonewall gay activism in the fifties and sixties (e.g., the Mattachine Society) and is mostly a biography of Frank Kameny, who I knew nothing about before I started this, but apparently he got into activism because he was an astronomer in the Sputnik era who couldn't get a government job because no one would give him a security clearance after he got caught being gay. I have to say it's actually a really interesting look at the underpinnings of assimilationism and respectability politics as strategies, which I wasn't expecting.

Current obsession: Hi yes it's me still a Marvel Comics Steve/Tony fan. I think the comic I am currently having the most fun reading is the Secret Invasion miniseries, with the Strange series as a runner-up, and I am really hoping the new Iron Man run will continue to be good.

I think I get what OP is saying—it drives me nuts that they stress the wrong words a lot of times. Like no one would be hitting the particular words they choose. If I was the copy editor I’d be questioning them all the time about why they’re emphasizing those particular words. ��

I get your point! But I don’t think they’re generally trying to stress words to match a speech pattern -- I mean, some of them are, but not most of the time. I think they’re just trying to highlight things that you need to know while you’re reading, like who the villain is, or if there’s something important that you need to look at in this panel, even if no one’s going to actually say it like that.

Like, to pick a random example from this week’s Avengers: Loki Unleashed:

I know, this one isn’t really that egregious, but I had it open, and it’s by an an older writer, so the older trends are more prevalent.

Would a regular person stress it that way in speech? No, probably not. But it tells you that in this panel Loki has a crystal (which he does) and you the reader should be paying attention to that when you’re looking at the art, and furthermore it’s his scrying sphere, and you should probably know that too.

I mean, if I were italicizing this as written speech I’d probably go for, like, “You’ve hardly spoken all day” and “as you know full well,” but comics aren’t necessarily trying to get that across; they’re helping cue you with how you read art.

That’s what I think, anyway.
