MOAR Sparkle Motion testing - built-in I2S mic 🎤📊

We're rounding the corner with testing our Sparkle Motion

WLED-compatible board. We're doing the audio-reactive test with the built-in I2S microphone this time. This digital mic will give great audio quality without needing any extra work. If you want an external mic wired far away, there are GPIOs exposed that you can solder to for another I2S connection - ESP32 lets you use any pins, which is nice! this demo is a graphical equalizer that makes verification easy! All we have left is to test the IR remote and fuse, and we're good to go!

English localization for the 2002 technical demo

The 2002 techdemo was shared on VK awhile ago, and I've found this version of the game to provide an interesting insight into what might've been the very early version of the plot and worldbuilding of Pathologic. All the text in the demo was famously entirely garbled; it is fixed and translated in this version.

The patched techdemo is available here. More technical information about the patch itself and the included /patch folder is available on the project page here.

If you've never played it before, the demo is extremely simple: you can run around the early, lowest-poly-we've-ever-seen, version of the Town (which was actually a city in 2002); talk to the strange man walking around; or locate the cottage on the edge of the city and have a meaningful conversation with one Maria Kaina, who seems to know you but isn't necessarily your friend.

Is the word "Vocaloid" ever mentioned in the game or is "Virtual Singer" a way of replacing it? Is the first one copyrighted and they can't use it for some reason?

the game is a techdemo for crypton's NT voicebanks, which are for use with their own piapro studio instead of yamaha's vocaloid engine. that's why the word vocaloid is never used (and why the tuning on comms/covers sounds. not great a lot of the time)

Metro RP2350 is wrappin' up testing ✨🐢

This week we got our Metro RP2350 boards

back and after fixing the pin direction and rerouting

the whole thing, it came up and pretty much works perfectly! Just one component needed a swap - we were able to test all GPIO, analog inputs, MicroSD slot, PSRAM, LEDs & NeoPixel, user button, I2C/SPI/UART, aaand power supplies. The 5V supply is great, we got a nice clean 5V out at 2A+ from 12V DC in. The last thing to check is the HSTX port, which gives us DVI access, and it works, thanks to this festive turtle demo!

We're aiming to get this into the shop before the end of the year, wouldn't that be smashing?

what’s the likelihood of other vocaloids being added to the game?

Quite low. The game exists as a techdemo for crypton's piapro studio and NT voicebanks so it makes sense to use them exclusively, but that aside it's a lot of money to add multiple characters owned by multiple different companies. Those other companies could also just terminate their contracts at any time depending what's stipulated in them so then you would run into a huge issue if that happens.
