The Promise and Peril of Geoengineering
Image of Arctic Ice by Pink floyd88 a via Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 3.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0>. As we head into a ever warming world, some experts and politicians are embracing a possible solution to climate change called geoengineering. Theoretically geoengineering could slow down climate change, stop it, and maybe even remove carbon from the air. It sounds like…

After some account issues, we've added 6 new people from the beach house rental website support forum.
Bug Thread [Explained]
Transcript Under the Cut
[Part of a discussion thread in progress on an online forum is shown. Each comment has the writer's avatar to the left of the text and small illegible text immediately above the text. Part of the first comment's text is cut off at the top.]
Commenter #1: Same issue here. Commenter #2: I'm having this problem too. None of the posted fixes work. Commenter #3: Same. Commenter #4: +1. So frustrating. Commenter #5: I'm still having this. Did you all ever figure out a fix? Commenter #6: Same problem as everyone. I tried the steps in the posts here, here, and here. Nothing. Commenter #7: Add me to the list. Commenter #8: Same. Ugh. Can't believe this thread is 5 years old now. Commenter #9: Where does everyone live? Do we want to get a beach house for a weekend or something?
[Caption below the image:] At some point, you just have to give up on fixing the bug and embrace the fact that you have dozens of new friends.

Prompt 279
Now Danny didn’t mean to make a Bootube channel. He’d meant to send that sleep deprived ramble to Tucker, but he had clicked on the wrong app and yeah. Apparently people enjoy his space rambles- or it could have been the ghost blob-cats that had decided to flop onto him. (Honestly he wasn’t surprised they would start to mimic the shapes of things in their surroundings)
Tucker? Found it hilarious, as did Sam and Val and… um, okay this has become their shared channel now, nice. Though there are some strange comments on some of the videos. Really, what do they mean green sky and crazy tech???

Eluvians, Pre-DATV ->
A mystical relic of the past, inaccessible unless if you have the 'key' to it - knowledge or power. A device that allows you to enter the Crossroads, a place between the Fade and the physical world, allowing you to travel between these spaces that breadth the length of the ancient elven empire. So few people actually knowing it's name or purpose. The few working mirrors surviving in the most desolate locations of Thedas, the Deep Roads or Ancient Elven Ruins, long since claimed by the ravages of time and cut off from present day Thedas.
Merrill, spending a near decade pushing her knowledge of her people's craftsmanship and magic to the brink - seeking out the aid of a powerful demon, Audacity, bound to the Sundermount, to help her cleanse and reforge her small part of history. Giving up her home and position within her clan in the hopes of restoring some small part of their past. Turning to magic perceived as 'forbidden', earning the scorn of her own clan and the rest of the world, being branded as a 'monster' by the people she loved so dearly. Assembling the shattered shards and forging them together, using her clans Arulin'Holm that has been passed through the ages and guarded by them.
Eluvians in DATV ->
Two for one sale - in working condition - some minor scratching on the frame.
Come down to your local dock / semi-abandoned forest / emo underpass / temu crestwood / BEACH / fight club / assassins creed 2 hidden level for more information.
Our handy Veil Jumpers can fix your faulty eluvians in 30 minutes or less.

[Headcanon]
The space program took a whole month off of development after Tektite's accident, so that Slate could have the time to perfect their leg. They'd already been working on articulated flaps for in-atmosphere steering for Feldspar's ship - conserves fuel to not use jets for that - and hey, an artificial ankle is just another type of flap to articulate, right?
Gossan wasn't so sure - especially with Slate's full-tilt approach to experimental engineering, at odds with Tektite's trepidation - but all of the founders agreed that the program could wait until their neighbour was back on their feet. And to Slate's credit, Gossan had never seen them show as much sheer methodical focus, before or since. This was somebody's limb here, after all: their ability to move of their own accord, their ability to get out and about in the community and do the things they love, their ability to still feel like their body is their own. Slate was hardly about to phone it in, or risk any wild experiments when it came to Tektite's comfort and requirements.
It took several iterations, and several difficult test walks around the town square gripping Slate's arm, but together the pair of them worked out a final model that's been serving Tektite well to this day.
(...Of course, the dedication and focus that so pleasantly surprised Gossan only made Slate's awkward avoidance of them after their own accident sting even more. Was it really that hard on their poor guilty conscience, to think about doing something similar for a friend, instead of darting their gaze away just short of Gossan's face?)
#outer wilds#original posts#outer wilds tektite#outer wilds slate#outer wilds gossan#*this headcanon is not a vessel for gosslate angst#it's an idea on its own that i really enjoy thinking about#the coming together of these ambitious young Hearthians with resources & technology & deciding to use those things to leave no one behind#instead of pushing harder for what was probably a pretty exciting midway stage of the space program#I imagine they'd had Feldspar and Esker up in the air for a while and Chert was just starting training#and looking promising#but this was worth it to delay. Slate's skills were needed elsewhere for a while.#as for Slate and Gossan...#yeah; there wasn't really as much to be done for Goss as far as a prosthetic went; but I don't think that's what they wanted#I think they just wanted Slate to look them in their remaining eyes and acknowledge what happened. without being defensive or avoidant#or overly pitying#just acknowledge it and the fact that it was partially their doing; and offer up something to ease the road ahead#like a sensor for the ships to help with depth perception. or a brace to help Gossan stop craning their neck until it's sore. or a hug.#Gossan's read on it is about what I intended; by the way#Slate isn't icked out by their injured face or anything like that#they're just guilty. Gossan can't heal until the thing's acknowledged#and Slate can't stop being defensive until they stop feeling like Gossan's forcing them to look at a failure they can't undo#for no reason other than to make them feel bad for it still#it's messy. and unfortunate. and makes Gossan feel betrayed and Slate feel hounded for something they can't go back and fix#and I really; really like it. on a story basis. I want to keep writing about it in the future and handle it with deserved nuance#but for now this is 3/4 a Tektite and Slate post and the focus is that when it really really matters#that lunatic of an engineer sure can lock in#and the thing that makes that happen doesn't have to be spacefaring and glory#it can just be a member of their little village who's in need

The Ethical Dilemma of Geoengineering & Global Warming (Encore)
Image of Arctic Ice by Pink floyd88 a via Wikimedia Commons Geoengineering is defined as some emerging technologies that could manipulate the environment and partially offset some of the impacts of climate change. Seems like the perfect solution for a consumerist society that lives on instant gratification and can’t stop polluting even at the risk of our futures, right? Well, let’s slow down.…

i find it really funny when people complain about like...'oh, they have [insert thing here] in the game that is set in medieval times when IN THE REAL WORLD that thing hasnt been invented yet in that time period!!!'
its like. well. you see. we are playing pretend in a fantasy world. there are dragons. i dont think it's meant to mirror real life development stages. its tuoys. were playing tuoys.
Like, no harm done here! but maybe you need to relax a little...

The hardware install person changed the network linkage path without running it past the tech guy who planned the whole network.
Reasonably, the tech guy found out upon arriving on site and seeing the changed hardware and justly chewed them out.
Now the tech guy is fairly flexible and went with the changes because yeah in theory the hardware install person had a good idea and intent with the change.
Only the router won't boot up.
Does the outlet have power?
Are all the connection points secure?
Tech guy points out that in changing the physical design of the network, hardware person has introduced additional failure points.
Tech guy hardwires internet to computer— issue is somewhere between here and there.
Hardware person scoffs and shruggs, goes outside to switch the router output to input.
(they don't know…)
Tech guy hardwires directly to router, skipping newly added junction point for easier accessability and movement.
The router powers up. Internet is connected.
Tries again to complete the circuit through all intended access points.
No internet connection.
Last minute hardware change may not be compatible with system.
Problem is not solved.
Tech guy knew this going in.
Both on way to store to get new cables and connectors.
Tech guy lets off second snarky comment about changing the plans without running them past them first.
Tech guy asks, do you know what this means?
Hardware install person answers, we should probably get divorced.
Tech guy says no, it means we need to work together.
Yeah you thought this was a regular work place issue when in fact it was just my two queer moms trying to set up a point to point wifi mesh network for our house. I don't know what any of this means.
