Now Jason would like it known that there was no mpreg situation going on. He isn’t even sure where people got that idea in the first place. Sure, he had taken a few Cores from the goons-in-white who had dared to set up in his turf. 

And sure maybe the excess energy from the pit (no wonder he’d been so irritable) was what said baby halfas (Okay, so they’re half human? Alright) had used to reform. And maybe the oldest is visibly less than a year old. 

But there Was No Mpreg Situation! He is this close to shooting someone! It was annoying (and slightly amusing) when it was just his goons, but now the Bats have seemingly got it in their heads! Dear Gotham it’s a good thing he’s not planning on like, ever revealing who he is because he would never be able to live this rumor down.

So there's a story in Batman: The Brave and The Bold (2023) was "The Tattoo" by Simone di Meo (letters by Carlos Mangual) where Bruce hallucinates having tattoos on his body that represent his rogues and freaks the fuck out about it and that reminded me of soulmate AUs so like

Bruce woke up with a tattoo.

He didn't know this, of course, because he practically sleep-walked through his morning (okay, afternoon) shower and barely glanced at the mirror while shaving. He pulled on his robe and stumbled into the kitchen for breakfast.

Alfred didn't turn from where he was preparing some kind of puff pastry, but did say, "One moment, Master Bruce, and I will attend you."

Bruce poured himself a coffee and then slumped into the barstool seat at the counter, content to wait for Alfred to finish. He leaned his cheek against his hand and sipped. He must have dozed for a moment because he woke up to Alfred's disgruntled shock.

"Good Lord, Master Bruce, what on earth possessed you to get a tattoo of all things?"

Bruce's eyes shot open, finding his faithful butler's gaze, and following it down to where it landed on his chest. There, above the pectoral muscle, was a mess of black and green and white. He studied it, upside down, trying to make sense of the lines. Some kind of glass sphere depicted in white, outlined in a radioactive green, with points of black in various sizes. Stars? He didn't recognize the configuration. Not a constellation.

Not one from Earth anyway.

"I... didn't."

"You clearly do," Alfred countered.

Bruce nodded, conceding the fact.

Bruce has never gotten a tattoo. He definitely didn't have one before he went to sleep. Neither did he have the opportunity to acquire one in the night. With a calm he didn't quite feel, he stood from the table and made his way down to the Cave, to check the security.

No alerts triggered. He checked the security cameras (Yes, he has cameras in his bedroom. Of course he does) and there was no indication of when it was tattooed on him. He slept like a rock for four hours and then woke up, trudging to the ensuite.

It must have just. Appeared.

It could have been some kind of slow acting chemical agent, he supposed, picked up from one of the criminals he'd encountered in the night. For what purpose and to what end, he didn't know, and it would have had to make it through the armor on the suit.

Unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely.

He pulled up a contact on his phone. Tapped it. Call went to voicemail.

"Hey Z! It's Bruce! Say, it's been a while since we chatted. If you've got the time, would you like to meet up? Maybe for something to eat? My treat, of course!"

Danny is learning how to shapeshift. It’s fun, really, and he honestly thinks it’s more than a little cool. Plus it’s not a learn or you fully die sort of thing, which is pretty cool too. He just erm, might’ve also made a mistake. A little oopsie. An uh-oh. 

Erm. So. Apparently stuff stays when you go from ghost to human form. Just erm. More… permanent? Look he panicked, okay! And it wouldn’t have been that bad if not for the fact erm… his friends might’ve done it too…? 

Okay, okay, this is fine erm. Oh hi Mom, Dad I- O-oh yeah! D-definitely! Psst, Tucker, what’s a meta…? Oh. Okay yeah- wait can they use this to avoid the GIW thing? They definitely could, right? Like they definitely can- Sam we need the corkboard!

Er. And inform their parents too… even if it’s more than a little obvious. Maybe they shouldn’t have been trying to mix and match…

That post I saw this morning very confidently believing that a $130k salary is "comfortably middle class" in Los Angeles, which made me laugh, then have a mild existential crisis.

so I know some people hc that Kirby’s parents used to babysit Sam and Tara right

so what if they babysat them for a long time like since Sam was a baby

and Kirby, being 4 years older than Sam, remembers some stories and stuff of little Sam that not even Sam herself remembers

now imagine the core 4 + Kirby together having a good time and vibing when out of nowhere Kirby decides to be a menace and bring up the absolute most embarrassing story of baby Sam she can think of just to piss her off and make everyone else laugh

there's something really easy to me about writing precanon spn fanfiction (not writing GOOD fanfiction necessarily. but. just having an idea and turning it into a 5kish vaguely completed story in its own right. which is normally something i struggle with). and i think i just clocked why while reading something about how to write short stories (i am notoriously bad at writing original short stories i just write novels and scenes from novels instead lol).

so much of writing flowing well is about motivation... characters wanting something. and i specifically find the young winchesters so good to write for because they have these motivations so built into them.

sam wants to get free & have autonomy & stop hunting & make dad understand and all that is sooo written into his younger self and therefore to write a lil fic about him you just have to like... isolate an incident that lets you really show that. which is what ive been doing without realising it. and dean wants... not much for himself, which is just as key of a character detail! but he still has intensely strong motivations, to keep the family together and to protect sam.

this is such a testament to the character work on spn lol their motivations even precanon are so clear and they're still such complex characters and it makes them so so so fun to write. its making me realise. i think some of the failures of my own character writing is that they dont always Want things

Re; this post --- While I've certainly gotten some interesting Sam-parenting asks that want to prop Sam up as the perfect "primary" parent, I think the argument wasn't so much that Jack WASN'T a Dean "mirror," but that his personality wasn't at all like Dean's.

And the thing is. It is.

In very critical ways, too.

That's what I've been struggling to put into words.

To pivot to how Jack is an "obvious Dean mirror" with more structural detail misses the point maybe, because I'm not just talking about the ways he is "structurally" a plot mirror for whoever.

I think what I'm clumsily trying to underline is about his actual personality and core emotionality being a lot more like Mary and Dean than first appears, regardless of what the plot is doing at any given moment.
