So yesterday on the #tenthingschallenge it was #invertedtropes time! I missed it because I was tending to a sick piggie and then having a breakdown. Anyway, I'm not sure if these are the official names of these tropes but here we go, I'll give a bit of an explanation of each one. 1. Only gays left alive - by gays I mean all us Queers, everyone on the lgbtq+ spectrum. Instead of burying your gays, how about the gays are the only ones left alive? 2. I mean women are the monsters is pretty obvious right? 3. Think Beast from X-Men, god I love that Shakespeare quoting suave motherfucker. 4. Another obvious one right? 5. Instead of the Monster being the weird thing, the human is the freaky being in the realm of monsters. 6. This villain ain't explaining shit and they're not stupid enough to get caught either. 7. Two main protagonists who go through hell and back and have great chemistry you say. Normally they'd get together I hear you say, not for this trope. Our hero is already very much in love with their nerdy tech geek who's mostly on the sidelines. 8, 9, 10. Again I think these are all pretty obvious... 🤣 Oh and I skipped day 16 because.... 10 zoom backgrounds? Today's #tenthingschallenge is Ten Drinks and Character Traits. I enjoyed doing this one, one of the things I love when building characters is asking questions like what their favourite drink is. Obviously here I've just made a bunch of crap up, but in general I believe you can tell a lot about a person from their favourite things and WHY those things are their favourites. The #tenthingschallenge today was antagonists. As with monsters the list of villains/antagonists I love is long and winding. I have two favourite types of villain; calculating, mostly irredeemable power hungry bastards. Chaotic just want to watch the world burn types And those that just love the taste of blood and thrill of the kill. There are others but I love these! To narrow down this list I decided to focus on Disney Villains, because who doesn't love a Disney villain. The villains in question are all the original animated iterations because some of the new ones *coughmaleficentcough* really annoying me and seem to have lost the thing I loved about them in the first place. Villains, like monsters, don't have to be relatable, redeemable or have a heart somewhere for me to love them. Today's #tenthingschallenge is settings and I have to say I was inspired by @watchherwrite to do the settings in my WIP. Before that I was kind of scratching my head and wondering whether to go with something like my favourite aesthetics in terms of settings or my favourite genre settings. Silverdeer 2 sees Anna venture further afield than just the island of Coldecourt as she faces new foes and meets new friends. There's a few sections I'm most excited about. Siren Cove because the mermaids there are sassy androgynous fashionistas. The mobsters club in New York, who doesn't love 30s Mobsters? So today the #tenthingschallenge is 10 genres you write or want to write in. So I split it down the middle. In case anyone wondered too I think EVERYTHING I will ever write will be of the Pulp variety, because I want reading my books to feel like you're watching a film and pulp really lends itself to that. I kind of want to write in all the genres. I love playing around with fiction and just having fun. The story is the most important thing to me first so I never settle on a genre until that is solidified and the work tells me what it wants to be. I do have some crime and strange romance stories planned but I'd love to write something historical, but more, Spartacus Blood and Sand Historical rather than every inch of it needing to be correct. Today's #tenthingschallenge is 10 songs your MC knows by heart.... So here we have ten songs the Anna of the early 00s (which is where I have her timeliness plotted too at the moment) knows by heart. One of my many headcanons is that Anna and the gang were in clubs a lot in the 60s and 70s, especially those playing motown. Anna loved this era in music. Jonathan is more of a 80s pop rock guy. Dottie loves big show tunes and power ballads. Lionels taste leans towards instrumental. Benedict adores anything poppy and cheesy. The first day of September is here and with it a new challenge. The #tenthingschallenge to be exact!
