Q: What was your favorite read of February?. *waves from under the abyss* Hello, I am in-fact still alive and did remember that I once did monthly wrap up posts! I haven’t one of these since -checks- October 2022….its been a hot minute. I’ve missed doing these though and am going to try and go backdate the previous months, but for now, let’s see how my February went! ✈️ I traveled to Atlanta, GA for 6 days for work, which was actually incredibly stressful and not at all fun sadly! I attended the book launch for Revelle by Lyssa Mia Smith at Books of Wonder in NYC, and I attended an early screening of Daisy Jones & The Six which included a talk with the cast/creators afterwards! 🎭 I attended 3 concerts and saw 3 Broadway shows. And last but not least – I read 4 books this month. Life isn’t slowing down anytime soon but I’m trying to fit reading in when and where I can! My favorite February reads: 💎 Revelle by Lyssa Mia Smith - If you tell me a story is inspired by Moulin Rouge, I’m immediately interested. Add a magic system and make it a historical fiction with fantasy – I’m sold! I’ve been eagerly anticipating Revelle and it did not disappoint! It sparkled like the jewels used in this story. 🎶 Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (reread): Not to be dramatic, but this is one of my favorite books of all time and it’s truly perfect. I love music. I love books. I love books about music. This story is incredible and I’m so glad I decided to reread it! Why is it that Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best books will always make me cry at the end? Books are portals and The Ten Thousand Doors of January is no exception. Its beautifully crafted worlds, complex characters and exquisite writing will leave you utterly enchanted. When you look at the premise; magical doors, multiverse you immediately think of works like Narnia and the more recent Wayward Children series. So how does it stand out? It’s atmosphere. There’s something so familiar about the way this book makes you feel when you read it. Like being a kid again and feeling that pull towards a seemingly ordinary room or spot in the trees and knowing down in your very bones that there’s something not quite right about it but you cant place it. This is one of those titles that make you recall that spark that made you fall in love with reading of wanting a story of your own like it. The cast of characters is so diverse and the way their stories all intertwine is incredibly well crafted and thought out. Being mostly set in the turn of the 20th century America, there’s racism, class-ism, gender-role expectations, all of this was respectfully and tactfully approached. Something to be aware of if any of these topics bother you. This is a phenomenal read that I encourage people to pick up. Oh, how I loved this book! A little slow to start but once I was hooked, I couldn’t stop reading! I devoured The Ten Thousand Doors of January by @alixeharrow in a single sitting, not noticing that day slipped into night. I thoroughly enjoyed the world building, the whimsy, the curiosity, the adventure, and the magic. Since finishing, I have found myself staring wistfully at doors, wishing they would transport me somewhere new! Everything about this book – the story, the design of the cover and the marketing pieces that came with the book were a delight and I am so thankful for it all!
