fic recs pls (part 1)
I am in need of long (don’t actually know what qualifies as long, 10k+ words?), complete (or not) dsmp (mainly sbi) or Life Series fanfic recommendations. I have read so many and I am trying to find more to soothe the brain itch.
Here are several that I have read, if you’re looking for fic recs yourself :)
Dream SMP (SBI)
tommyinnit’s clinic for supervillains by bonesandthebees (bonesandcacti) — [26/26 chapters, 189k words] aka “clinic”. A superhero au from Tommy’s pov where he’s just chillin with his healing powers and then he heals a villain and then gets sucked into it. He also gets attached to this Wilbur guy that visits the coffee shop he works at.
the world forgetting by the world forgot by bonesandthebees (bonesandcacti) — [21/21, 165k words] A superhero au from Tommy’s pov where he is the hero Dream’s sidekick and has terrible amnesia, forgetting the entirety of what happened the year before. The Syndicate, a band of villains, is looking for something that was stolen from them.
Hush Now (You Were Lost But Now You’re Found) by CorpseArt — [Incomplete, 56/?, 301k] A superhero AU where Tommy was Dream's sidekick and made it his entire person, and then Dream kicks him out of the Hero Corp. Tommy needs to figure out what the fuck is going on, bc there's no way Dream would just do that, even if he did protect the villain Siren. Their one rule is to not kill. Also he meets this funky man named Wilbur at a coffee shop and they become besties. (Pogtopia my absolute beloved.)
say you’re open by remrose — [9/9, 43k] A magic AU from Wilbur’s pov where he finds this kid unconscious on the floor if his shop after attending his mother’s funeral, obviously bearing the marks of intense chaos magic. He takes care of the kid. He also gets sold a mysterious object. The twinsduo here makes my heart sing. Also Phil is kind of like “you are mildly breaking the law” and Neapolitan trio just shrug.
Technoblade’s Entirely Average Babysitting Gig by opheliabloo — [3/3, 34k] A Techno pov fic where he is in college and needs money. A really shady family is offering like 20k for babysitting for 3 hours or something absurd like that, and him being a money-hungry college student, he ventures to this house in the middle of nowhere to take care of gremlin children that try to kill him.
His Curse of Binding by bari_astralis (orphan_account) — [30/30, 144k words] A foster au from Tommy’s pov where he is reincarnated into different Greek hero stories and he needs to figure out who this time’s story is before his sixteenth birthday. Featuring: Complicated SBI bonding, (minor) Clementine being a girlboss, bench trio being absolutely precious, allium duo making fun of each other but alsok being so damn precious, Linda Smith and Miss Allingham bashing (you’ll understand when you read it, I hate their guts), and generally trying to find your peace in life.
Breathing’s Just a Rhythm by MollyPollyKinz — [53/53, 186k] A time travel canon-divergent fic where Tommy, Schlatt, Dream, Tubbo, and The Voices travel from Exile era back to Pogtopia-Manburg era, and they've gotta fix the shitty world and avoid Dream at all fucking costs. Relationship building happens, and the Voices are the best character to ever exist in all literature.
the from ice to water series by Drhair76, plantform — [12 works, 157k words] The main fic is icing those hurts, but my personal favorite is hailing on you. An ice skating au fic centered around found family and belonging in a place without harm. In the main fic, Tommy gets healed, but in hailing on you, Wilbur gets healed and it's so sweet <3
holding onto nothing by remrose -- [20/20, 71k] A mainly Techno pov fic, twinsduo centric. adhd and autistic techno, and his mom is a bitch. He goes to the Crafts for help and it's terribly sweet but also pretty angsty. At times this fic has literally been my lifeblood, like my support system in keeping me alive. I love it so much.
My Faithless Hoax by phantom_star739 -- [24/24, 105k] A supernatural? (fae, vampire, siren) crimeboys centric fic with mild political aspects. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's amazing.
Fic recs part 2!

My Last fic of 2022!
Tommy was scared.
He didn’t know why, he was just scared. It was a gut feeling, something bad is going to happen.
They got this feeling a lot, ever since exile they usually never had a good feeling. They hardly ever smiled anymore unless he was with somebody he fully trusted.
Tommy was usually found wandering the main parts of the smp, often trying to find somebody because he was bored. But today he found himself walking around far off in the snow, despite not really wearing anything warm. They weren’t looking for anybody, and had no plans to find someone. He wanted to avoid everybody, the fear of anything bad happening was strong and he didn’t want it to happen.
Until someone found him.
“Tommy?”
Tommy’s demon tail perked, he was ready to start running. This may not be good. Xey looked up to meet who had called his name.. Phil.
Tommy exhaled; he was safe.
“Tommy, what are you doing out here like this? You’re gonna freeze to death— here, come with me.” Phil spoke, protectively wrapping a wing and an arm around the younger. Tommy never spoke a word, he just shivered. He hadn’t realized he was near Phil & Techno’s cabin, there was an apology ready to leave their mouth whenever they got to the cabin; xey hated intruding. Phil knew this.
“Before you say anything, you’re not intruding,” Phil said, opening the door to his cabin and having Tommy sit on a bed. Phil got blankets and pillows and Tommy immediately wrapped himself in them. Phil sat next to him, wrapping his wing around the younger.
“You alright, mate?” Phil questioned, “you seem off, and not just from the cold.” Tommy debated whether or not he should answer truthfully, bringing his knees up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them. He decided to lie.
“Yeah, I’m alright. I… I can go, now, I’m okay, p-promise.” Phil noticed the way Tommy started speaking quicker as he fidgeted with his fingers, the younger blonde avoided eye contact. Phil could read Tommy like a book and he knew he was lying. He wasn’t okay.
“You can tell me the truth, y’know. I’m not judging. And if I was, I’d be a horrible father, wouldn’t I?” Tommy faced the ground, a small smile forming on his face before returning to more a blank look. He sighed, xey weren’t getting out of this.
“I don’t know, I’ve just.. been living in fear, a lot. A constant gut feeling that something bad will happen. I’ve had this ever since I was exiled from L’manberg, and I hate it! I hate living in fear, Phil..” Tommy rambled. He didn’t mean to start ranting. “S-sorry..” He then leaned closer to Phil, resting xeir head on his shoulder.
“Wh- Mate, why are you sorry? You don’t have to apologize for telling me what’s making you upset.” The older’s words were calm, he spoke in a gentle tone as he placed a hand around Tommy and on their shoulder as a gesture to comfort.
Tommy wrapped his arms around Phil and began to sob softly. Phil pulled the younger into a hug, slowly rubbing xeir back. “You’re alright, mate. Nothing bad will ever happen to you as long as I’m here. You’re safe. I promise. I’m not going anywhere.” Phil spoke softly, Tommy shook in his arms. Phil hated seeing the boy like this, and he swore to himself he was going to murder that green bastard Dream for making Tommy like this. Phil made a promise— he would protect Tommy with his life.
Tommy eventually stopped crying, the shaking ended and he was calm. He didn’t feel scared. He wasn’t panicked. He didn’t feel terrible. He felt safe. They relaxed into Phil’s arms, sighing contently and resting his head against the older’s chest. Phil started to lightly trace shapes— stars and hearts, mostly— into Tommy’s back, around where xeir back meets their side. Tommy flinched, tensing for a second before relaxing again. Phil stopped.
“No.. keep going.. helping..” Tommy mumbled against Phil’s chest, making the older smile as he started tracing shapes again. The sun began to set by then. Phil brought his other hand to scratch lightly at Tommy’s sides, causing the younger to giggle quietly.
“Alright, mate?” Phil asked, Tommy nodded. Xey didn’t talk much, nor did they really even move. It truly was helping xem. Phil moved one of his wings to go under Tommy’s shirt and brush against his bare stomach.
“Phihil,” Tommy giggled, curling in on himself but allowing the tickling to happen. Phil smiled fondly, noticing Tommy’s tail start to slowly sway back and forth.
“What’s up, Toms? You okay?” He carded a hand through Tommy’s hair, using the other to continue the light scratching at xeir sides while his wing stayed at their stomach.
“Ihit tihihickles..” Tommy muttered, hiding his bright pink face against Phil’s chest.
“It’s supposed to,” Phil responded, now playing with Tommy’s hair. Tommy melted in Phil’s arms, xeir soft laughter filled the room. Phil slowed back to light tracing, and stopping the tickling with his wing. Tommy’s tail flicked up, back down, and went back to swaying.
“Thahank you, Phil..” Tommy looked up at Phil. The teen had a shy smile on his face, a pink hue dusted on xeir cheeks and nose. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Toms. I’m always here for you. Always.” Phil’s tone was gentle. The sun had set.
All of Tommy’s fear was wiped away, he felt safe. He finally, for the first time in so long, felt safe.

I'm going to start deleting any DSMP content I have on this blog. Let me know if I missed anything.
Four years ago... I was really into the DSMP, I was fifteen. I was a kid, and the dream smp helped me through hard times.
With how often people have been well... exposed, as in Dream himself being terrible at managing an audience in the very least and an abhorrent person at the very worst... Plus, the recent Wilbur "situation."
Wilbur wrote a majority of the lore around the Dream SMP. I feel disgusted. He was one of the people I loved and looked up to, yet I feel disgusted. I loved his songs, just removed them from all playlists. The art is tainted and I am unable to separate it from its artist.
I don't... want to speak about the dsmp any further, I know that not all the content creators were bad but if stuff like this keeps happening and especially with how toxic this fandom was and can still be... I'm just done. I hate talking about it as a DSMP fan because people are rather black and white about this. This... is more the last straw.
I don't want to speak much further about Wilbur Soot unless someone asks. I'm not tagging this in his name so it doesn't clog up tags of people searching for information.
I just wish I had noticed sooner. Back when I got a weird feeling about him trauma dumping onto a sixteen year old (Tommyinnit, at the time) and calling him his best friend. God. Back when "Your New Girlfriend" released. It feels like the signs were all there.
If you take ANYTHING away from this: Believe all victims. Support Shubble and anyone else who speaks out against this pathetic man.

c!poke and acheron? Can I get some uhhhh oc lore?? 👀
Imagine if there was a guy who was a d/smp oc self-insert who was a ghost but before that a child solider who shows up in a city state named acheron and forms a brotherly bond with a normal ass guy who's part of the pink catboy party (its election season and they also ran and lost) and gets revived and is a mentally ill teenager and does just the worst shit ever. like just is terrible like online fandoms would HATE her. and sucks at it. and researches anarchist theory. they're cruel to people. they still give her second chances and that's worse to her. she gets choked out at a rebellion meeting by a robot who ends up being one of her most trusted friends. the vice president taught them how to throw knives
and loves so so much. and is helpless to stop any of the terrible things happening to her loved ones and it drives her crazy. they get bisected by a god of war when they really could've avoided it. they traumatized a fallen seraphim. the seraphim's bestie gave her a dragon plushie, and doesn't know the half of it. she's the first person to ever criticize the president to her face. trapped with her rival in an elevator *twice*. fucked up some guy religious imagery style emotionally. she spray paints on rich peoples houses.
she was a dick to the LITERAL incarnation of the minecraft void, and also gave him a spare DS. a living lantern granny taught her how to sew. there was love, it didn't save them too much. their worst enemy was some guy named cunc. they hung out with a friendly mind-reading ghost in a parking lot. they were good friends with the god of friendship because they both liked crocs. she conceptualized her sense of self as being a broken stained glass window
she nearly goes on a spiral of self destruction but ends up leaving with their dead afore mentioned brothers bestie (who ended up emperor after his abusive husband died) who they at one point kidnapped and then promptly regretted so hard they had an entire moral crisis about and well. now they're traveling together on a beautiful vacation arc
whatta guy

(Just for a record, this is not a DuckTales post..)
I just wanted to say my mind on what's going on right now with the Dream SMP. I miss it. I miss the 2021 era. I miss bench trio streams. I miss the beeduo. I miss Technoblade. I miss Tommy's mod videos. I miss old lore streams. I miss the you laugh you lose videos. I miss Niki and Wilbur streams (I do not ship them together I just love their friendship) I hate the fact that all of the is happening. The situation with Wilbur and Shelby. Technoblade is dead. Tommy and Dream might not be friends anymore (I'm not for sure on this one). The dream SMP is gone. I miss the lore streams. I miss when everyone got along, and when everyone was happy and laughing on the dream SMP. I was bawling crying for hours when I heard of what's going on with Wilbur and Shelby...I was also crying because of how everything is changing, in a negative way. I'm also so angry. I hate this. I wish we could go back to 2021 and just stay there. These guys were all my comfort streamers. Now it's fucking gone. I can't take it. I understand that change cannot be stopped, but I wish it didn't get like this. I'm not defending anything terrible that anyone from the SMP has done. I'm not hating on them either. I just miss the old times.. I cried for 2 hours because of everything changing. I hate it. I am just speaking my mind and I hope some other fellow dream SMP fans can agree.
-Ollie/Emmett/ Emma (I'm gender fluid so I go by all these names)
(anyone and everyone. Please help me get this word out. Repost it here. Post it on Twitter, tiktok, anywhere we can. I want this all over.. please🙏)

As a former dsmp fan (so you don't have to act like I don't know anything or am coming from a place of bias, I used to be a big fan of the smp), current ones need to stop sticking their heads in the sand.
Multiple of the bigger creators of the dsmp are racist/homophobic/antisemitic/abelist and/or have repeatedly done or said racist/homophobic/antisemitic/ableist things. And the only people I see actively defending them are white fans who accuse "antis" of "using their race to justify hating ccs". (We aren't. We're just actually aware of and actually care about the bigoted things they did)
"But not all of dsmp is white!" Ok, and? I know that. You can be racist and have friends if color. You can be racist and a poc. Also, as far as I know, there aren't any Black ccs who have majorly been on the dsmp, and there's been a lot of antiblackness on the dsmp.
"But (someone) is literally gay/neurodivergent!" And? They can still be bigoted. There is a massive problem with racism and antisemitic in the lgbtq+ community. Being neurodivergent doesn't mean you can't be racist or antisemitic.
"But (someone) apologized!" Maybe so. But 1. that doesn't erase what they did, 2. they still enable their terrible (usuallu racist/antisemitic) fans and ignore when they do terrible things in their name, and 4. continue to engage with and support other bigoted ccs. If I had a nazi friend but wasn't a nazi myself, I'd still be terrible for willingly associating with a nazi. Obviously it's not the same, but associating with, supoorting and befriending bigots willingly is shitty as fuck. So congrats on being a racism apologist ig.
"They don't do racist stuff, have you watched their videos?" It doesn't have to be in their videos for it to be true. We know about certain ccs lives, pasts, what they've said in live streams. Maybe they even said stuff on accident.
It doesn't have to be public to be racist. It doesn't have to be purposeful to be racist. It doesn't have to be repeated to be racist. It could be one time, subtle, accidental, and it's still racist. But you'll still dismiss it bc you love your mediocre white gamer boys sooo much, huh?
Anyways, Dream and many other DSMP members have racist, antisemitic, ableist behaviors, recent and distant. Don't pretend like it's not real.

The continuous dehumanization of c!Dream in the Dream SMP fandom
[ All of the names mentioned in this post apply to the characters, not the content creators. This post will include repeated mentions of fictional abuse, self-harm and torture. Please take care of yourself. Your mental health is important. /dsmp /rp ]
This fandom has driven me to my limit. I think it’s time to talk about dehumanization.
First of all; if you’re going to tell me “it’s a Minecraft roleplay, it’s not that deep”, watch me say “c!Tommy deserved abuse” (he did NOT) and get swarmed by 500 people telling me how messed up that is. There are literal abuse victims in this fandom, and I personally know a lot of them relate to what c!Dream is going through (more on that later). Seeing this fandom dehumanize the character on such a large scale makes me sick and extremely worried for them, so shut up.
Let’s get back to the point.
What is dehumanization? Big word, right? Wouldn’t want to misuse it.
Tumblr media
According to this article written with the help of a psychologist, “Dehumanization is a mental loophole that lets us harm other people”. Or perhaps justify these people being hurt, in some cases; “If you think of murder and torture as universally taboo, then dehumanization of the “other” is a psychological loophole that can justify them.”
Dehumanization is not a good thing, and it is never acceptable.
According to Wikipedia, “Dehumanization is the denial of full humanness in others and the cruelty and suffering that accompanies it. A practical definition refers to it as the viewing and treatment of other persons as though they lack the mental capacities that are commonly attributed to human beings. In this definition, every act or thought that regards a person as "less than" human is dehumanization.
“Dehumanization is one technique in incitement to genocide. It has also been used to justify war, judicial and extrajudicial killing, slavery, the confiscation of property, denial of suffrage and other rights, and to attack enemies or political opponents.”
Let’s see what this fandom does to c!Dream, and whether it matches up with the definition.
Justification of torture and abuse; revenge and “catharsis”
Since the very second c!Dream has started being tortured, the fandom exploded into discourse. About what specifically? Him “deserving it”.
That’s right, folks. People will genuinely get mad when others tell them “abuse is wrong, even when it happens to bad people”.
Twitter is filled with people saying this sort of thing, but Tumblr is not exempt from this - they just make longer posts about it and they get deleted faster because there are more Dream apologists on there. I saw people calling it cathartic, I saw people calling it “vindication”.
If you’re reading this post, you probably don’t justify fictional torture! That’s… good! Bare minimum, but good. However, the points explained here might apply to people you support/follow, and there are other, more subtle points that might apply to you explained later in this essay, so please read on if you’re still interested in the subject.
Now, I’m not strawmanning a small amount of the community here. Big accounts from all over DSMPtwt and DSMPblr were reblogging and posting things about how “funny” and “cathartic” the abuse was, or about how they didn’t care.
I don’t mind if you don’t care about the abuse victim in a story because you have a personal vendetta against him. I couldn’t care less about you hating c!Dream - he did terrible stuff! He hurt your favorite character! I get it! But making light of someone being terribly traumatized (even in fiction) and talking about how much you enjoy it is wrong and upsetting.
There will always be a couple of bad apples, but this is not a loud minority. This was the fandom’s overwhelming response to the prison arc as a whole.
People were calling seeing c!Dream in pain “narrative catharsis”. Dream SMP fandom learn the meaning of words challenge episode 226.
“Catharsis is the telos of tragedy, the end towards which [it] is functionally directed. In Aristotle's theory catharsis is part of. the definition of tragedy : an imitation of an action "with incidents arousing. pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish its catharsis of such emotions"”
Narrative catharsis is all about feeling pity, fear, and sympathy for someone going through pain, and then after you finish watching the tragedy, feeling emotionally refreshed.
What the Dream SMP fandom actually means when they say “it’s narratively satisfying” is that it’s a revenge power fantasy they can indulge in. They hate the character, and when they see him in pain, they justify the torture to themselves through dehumanization so they don’t feel bad for enjoying it, and the alarms of “hey, this is messed up!” don’t go off.
They’d be disgusted with themselves if they realized they actually just want to see a (fictional) human being be abused and find it entertaining. So they blame it on the narrative making it “satisfying” for them, and strip c!Dream of his humanity; down to titles such as “villain” “tyrant” “abuser”, when they’re actually laughing at a literal (fictional) Person going through abuse and there is nothing more to it; nothing to excuse that or make it better.
I once had a person say to me in a discussion “I don’t think anyone deserves torture, but c!Dream does.” A lot of people don’t put it this blatantly because then they’d realize what they’re actually doing is, well, flawed logic - but point is, it does happen. This is people’s thought process; they’re excluding c!Dream from the people who don’t deserve abuse, which they’d otherwise say is everyone.
This is dehumanization, case closed. But, hey, maybe you’re not saying what is happening to him is right. That means you’re not dehumanizing him, right?
I’m not done. Not by a long shot. You see, dehumanization is an inherently subtle thing.
Calling trauma responses and self-harm “manipulation”
Pandora’s vault is a traumatic experience. Isolation over 15 days is classified by the UN as torture, because of the negative consequences a lack of stimuli can have on one’s mind.
Such as the fact our brain will prefer negative stimuli over none.
Yes, we’re bringing up the fact (yes, the FACT) that c!Dream has been indulging in self-harm with the use of lava because of solitary confinement.
He throws himself into lava; “swims” in it and kills himself, sets himself on fire and lets himself burn for a very long while - and calls the pain of being burnt “fun”, calls it “exhilarating”. He laughs about it, says there is nothing else for him to do, and makes light of it. He has done this in almost every single visit. [link to only a few of the clips of him doing it] And if people paid closer attention to the streams, they would notice that he is constantly inching towards the lava, standing beside it, looking at it, running around it.
This is deliberate. c!Dream is hurting himself in prison.
Visitors told c!Sam about this, and he replied with utmost apathy, “yeah, he does that a lot. Usually it’s for attention.” He also could’ve easily stopped him from hurting himself this way by just putting up the obsidian barrier permanently. He did not.
Self-harm is not for attention. It is a sign that someone needs help. But even if - perhaps if someone is devoid of interaction and stimuli, which are essential for proper functioning of the brain, to the point when they hurt themselves over and over to get it - it’s their environment that is literally forcing them to look towards that as a solution.
c!Sam not only couldn’t care less about c!Dream’s health, but he is also negligent - starving him, only giving him one type of food (which he recently called “disgusting”, meaning that it was actually hurting him as well) and other things. c!Sam mentioned multiple times “breaking him” “breaking his will” as something he had hoped to achieve.
This is deliberate. c!Sam was hurting c!Dream in prison.
Why have you not heard of this sooner, you might be asking? ...Also dehumanization. This fandom couldn’t care less that a (fictional) human being is being abused because they don’t like him. Unlike pretty much everything else in the SMP, this information isn’t picked up, analysed, and most people show no interest in it.
They ignore these inhumane conditions - literal infringement of basic human rights - because they don’t want themselves or others sympathizing with c!Dream. They downplay these things, don’t talk about them, and it’s very obvious the majority of the prison arc before c!Quackity was ignored - by, like, the entirety of the fandom - because people didn’t care about c!Dream being abused, and (most of those people) deliberately stayed ignorant.
… Well, now that we’ve established that pre-Quackity conditions were extremely messed up, let’s talk about the trauma responses!
c!Dream goes selectively mute in one of the visits. He acts desperate to get out from time to time, while also insisting c!Sam is “treating him amazing” and he’s doing “great”. Despite purposefully hiding how much he’s being hurt, a lot of the things he does or says during the visits inspire pity.
And here’s where the dehumanization comes in; people saying that those who feel sympathy for c!Dream are being “manipulated” by his obvious trauma responses, and that either he has some “greater plan” (I saw someone say he is “acting” and “isn’t actually scared of c!Quackity, because he is “good at it”) or that it just doesn’t hurt him and he’s trying to seem pitiful to “manipulate” the visitors and the fandom.
(“They can’t feel pain the way we do.” Is actually classic dehumanizing propaganda that had been used against disabled people IRL. Please stop, it’s very uncomfortable!)
People also say they “don’t trust him”, which I would understand, if the thing they “weren’t trusting him” about wasn’t trauma we literally see the consequences of on screen.
I don’t think I need to explain how messed up this all is. The CCs are deliberately making him sympathetic via the prison arc, tackling serious issues like self-harm, torture of prisoners and systematic abuse, and you’re calling it a ruse, a red herring. You sound like that one screenshot from a TikTok of a c!Dream apologist that read “what if c!Tommy was actually manipulating c!Dream in exile”. AKA stupid and insensitive.
Talking about victim blaming, people are so quick to say that c!Dream deserves it or is getting retribution because he commissioned the prison and “was going to do this to c!Tommy!!1!1”, as if the main cell wasn’t only meant to be used for up to two weeks and as if he ordered c!Sam to be negligent and cruel.
Also, “c!Dream is manipulating c!Quackity and/or c!Sam!”. Stop :D You’re saying he’s manipulating/hurting his abusers even though they have control of literally every second and every inch of his life! What the hell!
All in all, If you say stuff like this, you are denying him the ability to be hurt and suffer, emotionally and physically, like a normal human being can - denying his humanity - hence downplaying his trauma and abuse because you don’t like him.
It’s dehumanization. Denial of human rights is about as dehumanizing as you’ll get. Time to get into widespread and controversial territory, so stick with me here.
An aggressive response to the debate and assignment of positive traits [ + ableism ]
It’s time to talk about the first thing that pops up when you search “dehumanization”, as well as the method most often used by war propaganda; depriving a person of positive human qualities. How does this apply to c!Dream?
People who dislike him, which are some of the most influential of the fandom, will do anything to erase even a smidge of humanity in the character.
Even though he has proven time and time again to care pretty deeply about his friends, even though his good intentions and motivation were literally confirmed by the CC, people will discard that to assign him inhumane qualities instead and make him a personification of evil, abuse, or tyranny; denying him moral complexity or “positive human qualities”. People will discard everything we know about him (which isn’t a lot) to claim he’s just “obsessed with hurting c!Tommy” (ah yes because everything is this story including all of the characters definitely revolves around him /s) even though it has no actual basis or solid proof.
I have seen time and time again people act outright aggressively to whoever assigns normal, positive human qualities, that could help us see c!Dream as a person to the character.
This is!! Not a good attitude!! Getting defensive towards someone humanizing a person whom the fandom has dehumanized, even if he did some vile stuff, is Not Chill! Not only have you convinced yourself that he doesn’t deserve a personality or to be seen as something other than a threat or a villain to be defeated, but you’re so convinced about it you are in fact attacking and pressuring others for not agreeing with you.
This, however subtle, wide-spread or normalized, is *whispers into the mic* dehumanization.
And when I say “do anything to erase even a smidge of humanity” I mean everything including *that one rainbow spongebob meme* blatant ableism!
AKA, assigning him personality disorders, saying he “can’t feel empathy” or “can’t care about people”, diagnosing him and then weaponizing that to dehumanize him further. This is sadly widespread on pretty much anywhere but Tumblr (especially Twitter and Ao3), even though I guarantee you people have been calling c!Dream a “psycho” on there as well.
This is not ok. Don’t be ableist because you dislike a character for the love of god.
You can hate him, though! He abused a teenager! He also killed him once! There are solid reasons why you should feel strong negative emotion towards the character; if you have dehumanized him in your mind, you know what, who am I to attack you?
I’ll do you one better; who are you to attack me for not doing the same?
A firm opposition to empathy, and the effects of peer pressure and conformity
This is less of a point rather than a closing note; an explanation of the reason why I wrote this in the first place.
All of the dehumanization mentioned before leads into a singular point; c!Dream doesn’t deserve empathy, and those who relate to him are wrong / I cannot understand them, hence I believe they’re wrong about the character.
This is, once again, common in the fandom. You might’ve listened to people dehumanizing him and you agreed and didn’t notice. That doesn’t mean you’re a bad person for it. That doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.
There is a lot of pressure in this community to conform to the overall opinion that c!Dream is an evil no-good villain (rather than person) deserving of nothing less than death, and people who empathize with him are terrible or stupid people. This is what newcomers are faced with and expected to follow; since these other people were here before them, they’ll naturally think they’re right, and won’t challenge this status quo. Even if they wanted to, this entire place is an echo chamber, and they can’t escape it; so they’ll conform at some point, and dehumanize him as well, because everyone else is doing it, so they must be correct, right?
And while this is all fiction - a goddamned Minecraft roleplay - there is something that has to do with real people and the harm that can come to them as a result of this.
You see, my followers probably don’t remember this, but back in the day, I made a survey. It was called the Dream vs. Tommy apologist survey, with two simple questions for each side; why are you a c!Tommy/c!Dream apologist, and why do you think people are c!Tommy/c!Dream apologists?
I ended up getting a thousand responses, all catalogued and to be processed - I was supposed to do an analysis, but it was too mentally exhausting to get through.
What the answers showed was,, surprising, to say the least.
You see, when you think about “why are people c!Dream apologists?” you usually don’t come up with “they relate to him on a deeply personal level”, but here are only a few of the people who had this as their reply.
“i relate to a lot of his trauma / feelings.”
“I relate a lot to his fear of people having power [over] him and his situation in the prison reminds me a lot of my own traumas.”
“as someone from a colonized country and people I can't help but feel for c!Dream and his situation. Being villanaized just for wanting his server back to how it used to be is also painfully familiar.”
“I also tend to project onto c!Dream, as he does remind me of myself in some aspects like trauma responses.”
“I see so much of my mental illnesses and past self in him.”
"c!dream is a genuine comfort character for me as someone with c-ptsd myself"
"I can see a lot of myself in c!Dream, even the bad parts. Took a lot of guts to realize that “oh hey, I think like that, I should probably stop” and have been doing better since then."
People… relate to the character, and not for bad or insufficient reasons. (Not that there are “insufficient” reasons to relate to the character in the first place.) It’s usually got to do with repressed trauma and emotions, specific trauma responses such as cutting off the people around you and desperately trying to control your life, being abandoned or cast out by your family and friends, even having your country colonized, etc..
These people were anonymous, however I myself know quite a lot of c!Dream fans who are past or current abuse victims and see themselves in the character. Some of them because of physical abuse or being trapped in their house; some because of the dismissive attitude of others when they opened up about what had happened to them, similarly to how people who claimed to care about c!Dream don’t care about what happened to him in prison.
I am not using this to guilt trip anyone, but it is important to know the effect your words can have on people, and the constant hate and dehumanization is frequently sending many c!Dream fans (me included) into panic attacks and anxiety spirals.
“But I tag my crit!” Yeah, your 2k followers who are listening daily to you dehumanizing him very likely do not, and you’re contributing to the trend in the fandom either way.
With that in mind - meaning people take specific experiences c!Dream had (in canon) and specific experiences (often highly traumatic) that they had IRL and relate them to each other - what effect do you think it has, saying he is “irredeemable”, “doesn’t deserve to heal”, or “shouldn’t/cannot get better”? Calling c!Dream sympathetic people “abuse apologists”, “being manipulated”, or “thinking of the wrong character”?
(Side-note: the fandom also has an awful double standard. Characters who are also manipulative or abusive, such as c!Wilbur, c!Sam or c!Quackity, are deemed as “able to heal/be redeemed” while c!Dream is not. This is usually explained by saying, “well, x character has these positive qualities they can return to and that stayed with them, and c!Dream does not” - which is, once again, blatant denial of positive human qualities. I hope we all agree all people can and deserve to heal and get better - however, according to the fandom, once again, c!Dream can not.)
How do you think this affects people who have been on long roads to healing and becoming better people? How do you think this affects abuse victims, when you say c!Dream’s treatment is justified or that you enjoy watching it?
I am not using this to guilt trip you. c!Dream antis often pull out the “well abuse victims project their abuser onto him and you’re hurting them by saying people should be more sympathetic” card, however, so I feel like I should tell you that there are abuse victims out there who relate themselves to him and want him to get better for that exact reason.
It is a Minecraft roleplay, yes; but if I see something that is overwhelmingly common in the community continuously hurting a group of people, like hell I’m not going to speak out about it. And c!Dream’s dehumanization does that. Fighting anyone who believes he deserves empathy does that, because people see themselves in him (and once again, they are completely valid to do that) and you are saying people who have done bad things (which some of these people have, as coping mechanism or simply because they spiralled) but have also been hurt don’t deserve to be sympathized with or get better.
So, to summarize; don’t dehumanize c!Dream, and don’t villainize people who sympathize with him; if not out of understanding, then at least out of human decency.
If you have questions, want to ask for proof, or simply want to see what the more sympathetic outlook on c!Dream’s character looks like, feel free to send asks. I’ll definitely answer yours if you aren’t a prick - by which I mean I’ll let you stomp all over me, but if you send me into an anxiety attack by just sending hate, I probably won’t answer you.

youreyeslookliketheocean’s DSMP Fic Recs!!
Figured it was about time for one of these... :)
Mostly SBI-centric because they’re my favorite dynamic. I’ll probably add to this list as time goes on, and I also want to go back through my ao3 history and find some lesser-known fics I really enjoyed to rec them all. But for now...
* oneshot  ** unfinished work
** the lights go out (my heart goes still) by curseworm
With his old home unwelcoming and his new one gone, Tommy is alone. After hours of staggering through the freezing snow, he finds a cabin.
Technoblade’s cabin.
He hides himself away in the deepest corner he can find, taking only what he needs to survive, wasting away in the cold and the dark. He’s petrified at the thought of being found out, terrified of what he thinks Techno would do to him.
When Techno finds his injured teenage brother huddled in a filthy little cave beneath his basement, the rage he feels is immeasurable. The voices demand blood, and blood he will give them. Dream won’t be getting away with this one.
(On the other side of the world, in a country that floats on a man-made lake, Philza gets himself in a bit of a pickle.)
** The hearth down under by Crystalquill
A tiny change gives Tommy the courage to flee to the Nether instead of the cold tundra, finding an unlikely ally in the midst of a fiery hellscape.
But tiny changes can alter the course of history. The SMP will never be the same.
(Lots of cool Nether worldbuilding in this one!!)
to be a wanderer, wandering by hydrangeasheart
Tommy's feet drag in the snow.
It's so, so cold. He's so cold. His toes are freezing. His exposed shins feel like they’ve been cut open-- even the one that’s bandaged. His wings have gone numb, which is almost, almost good, because now he can’t feel the shifting, broken bones inside of the left one, just under feathers and muscle.
He doesn’t know why he’s still walking.
-
Or, Tommy leaves the exploded ruins of Logstedshire behind, and walks until he finds somewhere safe.
And things keep going from there.
(A canon-divergent AU, splitting off somewhere around when Tommy started hiding out below Techno's house.)
that’s, like, a hundred miles by No_one_you_know (and then “as long as i’m here”, and “he’s my brother, i just raise him”)
Dream would kill him. Dream was going to kill him- he was going to- no, he wouldn’t. Dream was his friend- friends don’t hit each other- Dream was supposed to take care of him- Dream /was/ taking care of him.
It hurt to breathe. It hurt to think. He couldn’t clear his thoughts as he stumbled to the family computer, pulling up a tab on google and frantically typing the name into the search bar.
The words Technoblade Watson stared back at him, the little black bar at the end of the letters blinking slowly, mocking him.
Why, of all people, did it have to be Technoblade?
in short: the one where dream sucks as a parental figure, tommy runs away, and visits his least favorite family member technoblade.
passerine by thcscus(blujamas)
Do I really need to put the summary here? Pretty much everyone knows this fic. Also, though, if you enjoy this one you should totally read thcscus’ connected fic, “shrike”!! It’s only at 2 chapters right now but it’s already really good and has this dark, foresty aesthetic I love...
not with a bang but with a whimper by dip_dyed_ghost
He knows Tubbo doesn’t care about him anymore. He knows that. He’s been shown that. But it doesn’t stop Tommy from caring about him. He brushes the pads of his fingers over the compass’s glass and wonders how he’s doing, if he’s tired of it all yet, if he needs help. He watches the way it points strongly in the direction over the ocean. He hopes he’s alright.
Even after everything, he hopes he’s alright.
During his exile, Tommy finds a drugged and hurt Tubbo on his doorstep. He can’t not help him.
(This one has a neat take on potions, in my opinion. Also it’s only 4 chapters so it’s a quick read!)
take this compass, follow it home by lightning_anon
Tommy's a fuck up, he can't pay attention, and never sits still. He taps his hands, pushes people away, and has never had a best friend. He's a screwed up, forgotten kid lost in the foster system. He's also just been placed with a new family. Tommy knows how this goes, he never ends up staying long. After all, no one wants a fuck up like him.
Why would this house be any different?
Or: the obligatory sleepy bois foster fic, but with a focus on the neurodivergent kids that inevitably get lost in the system.
(Genuinely want to see more books like this in original fiction. It’s part of what inspired my newest og wip, “To Build a Home.” So sweet and I feel like I had my eyes opened to some neurodivergent tendencies I never knew existed. I read this in a day and can’t rec it enough.)
bloodlines by youreyeslookliketheocean
Tommy’s an orphan on the run from his previous guardian. Philza’s a king who prides himself on keeping his kingdom in an era of peace. Wilbur’s the crown prince, and Techno’s right beside him as his adopted brother. When Phil’s kingdom of Pogtopia is threatened by the bloodvines—a strange, brainwashing plant infecting many of the surrounding kingdoms—the four must work together to keep the kingdom, and their family, safe. --- A royal au sbi fic... + the bloodvines, for spice.
(Yes I’m self-promoting. But, in my defense, I’m very proud of it. If you checked it out it would mean the world to me :’))
Heat Waves by tbhyourelame
Dream has always held a gentle admiration for George, but when their nuanced friendship trickles into his sleeping mind, he awakens to a new world of conflicting emotions and longing. Lost in the midst of a heat wave, he continuously listens to a song that works itself in to the very core of his heartache. Floridian nights, unsent messages, spiraling infatuation, and terrible, terrible weather.
Another fic I think pretty much everyone knows about. Listen, listen... I was once an idiot who said “Oh no, I’ll never read Heat Waves. It’s irl, not characters, and it’s probably cringe”... No. I was so wrong. This fic is wonderfully written, with a pretty quick moving plot and great characterizations. You do need an ao3 account to access it, though. Just to let you know. (Also read “Helium”, unfinished and hasn’t updated in awhile, but it’s the continuation).
Guitar Strings and Keyrings are What it Takes to Build a Home by Anonymous
Techno was adopted by Phil when he was 12 years old.
He'd been enjoying his morning before Phil came to him asking if he would mind them taking in another kid. Against his better judgement, Techno agrees and ends up with two new foster brothers who he was determined to not get attached to, no matter what.
Tommyinnit’s unbeatable method of avoiding sudden death by eneliii
“I uh,” Tommy starts, not knowing how to break this to the hero lightly. He hates to be the bearer of bad news. “I think your powers are broken? It’s not a bad thing of course, but like, I swear you tried to mind control me and it like, totally failed. Which is fine, honestly, don’t feel insecure. Everyone’s power stop working sometimes… I think.”
Sheesh, this is very awkward. Why is no one else talking? Why is Philza looking at him like he grew three heads? Why is the Blade staring at him so intensely? Why is Willow still frozen?
“Did I, did I hit a nerve? Yikes,” Tommy hisses, “Well um,” He steps back, bracing his legs and bending his knees, “This was like super fun, but I’m - I’mma head out.”
or,
in which Tommy manages to annoy the hell out of Phil, Techno and Wilbur by being both impossible to catch and irritatingly endearing.
or or,
a crack fic where Tommy is a vigilante and Phil, Techno and Wilbur are the heroes hunting him down.
(Feel like I am obligated to say how incredibly funny this fic is. Seriously. I have a distinct memory of sitting on my neighborhood park’s swing, giggling hysterically, while reading this. Well...until the end... but we won’t get into that...)
** bones in the ocean by bunflower
“Your reputation precedes you, y’know.”
“Does it, now?” Philza watches him coyly from where he’s now leaning against the wall, arms folded around his chains and gaze half-lidded, his lips curled in an arrogant, cat-like smirk.
“The Angel of Death, the ferryman of the Styx, the terror of the western seas. One of the most feared captains ever to sail, and yet, I have to wonder… how did a man like you end up all on his own? We searched the area where you were found—not another soul in sight. So,” He fixes him with a long look, allowing the silence to hover like a dark cloud, the words rolling off of his tongue with all the venom and smugness he can muster, “—tell me, Philza. Where is your crew?”
OR: Technoblade is a naval captain, and Phil his unwilling prisoner. Somehow, they manage to come out of it as friends in the end.
(Is this fic considered popular like passerine/Heat Waves now? Cause I feel like it’s reputation precedes itself, at this point... Pirate au.)
****
Okay! That’s it for now. Like I said, though, I want to add to this over time and also dig back for some older things I’ve read. Also, if you have any recs feel free to send them in! I’m about to go back to school and therefore might not have time for reading fun stuff, but whenever I get the chance I’d love to check them out!!!
Happy Reading!!

a small Discussion
(Please assume that I am referring to characters throughout this post - as a blanket statement here)
I’ve (+ many of my discord friends, hello Home Home) noticed something. Tumblr isn’t safe from Dream apologism; it’s got a different brand from Twitter, and it takes the form of my high school English essays. Y’know the ones, where you need two thousand words and you’re only at 500. So you crack open the good ol’ thesaurus and throw out any narrative discussion, in lieu of bullshitting your way through it.
Add in some condescending fuckery and ta-da! Your run-of-the-mill Dream apologist Tumblr/Twitter take.
Joking aside, there’s this idea I’ve seen arching across nearly every Dream apologist post; that he had/has little to no control from around the Revolution, up to now. That he was the puppet being controlled (by who? Wilbur? Tommy?) and that he never meant anything he did! He was being forced into it! Dream, to many, was a hapless victim being pulled along by the whims of his servermates. He isn’t a villain (he is), he isn’t a tyrant (he sure wanted to be!) and his hand was forced to punish L’Manburg/Tommy/Tubbo/whoever-the-’villain’-of-the-week-is (it was never forced).
This all just so… reductive of his character?
Dream is, narratively (and yes, the SMP has a narrative that is driven by conflict) the villain. He is the overarching force the protagonists fight/fought against. Actions made by Dream, of his own volition, drive the plot along - even without him present his actions are felt. In the most literal sense, Dream is the villain. He tried to become a tyrant through using attachments against people.
How quickly one forgets, willingly or not willingly, the Hall of Attachments (evil) in his Stereotypical Evil Villain Lair (evil).
Depriving the villain of nuance, that he had full control of his actions, by claiming his critics/antis deprive him of nuance by assigning him a narrative role is counterintuitive. Dream apologists claim they’re winning his nuance back, while in the same breath taking it away. Dream is interesting because he’s so sinister and evil and fucked up; what makes him so interesting is because he’s so calculating. I roleplay Dream pretty regularly, and I hate him because he’s so slimy. Don’t take it away by framing him as the victim, when he made it pretty clear (before the Prison, because I think he’s trying to garner sympathy) that he was Top Dog. He was the predator, everyone else was his prey.
He has always seen himself as the apex predator. Everyone else is his little game.
So let’s move onto my OTHER gripe with Dream apologists. They often have to put every character under the sun against him, in apparent attempts to highlight how victimized he is. Everyone is against him and that must mean he is being targeted for no reason. This post won’t even touch upon Tommy’s Exile with Dream much, but I think that whole plotline could eviscerate that point on the spot. Most Dream apologists like to employ what I call Higher Level Headcanons (coined by me, please pay me royalties if used! /j); they take the in-betweens of canon, extrapolate to such a degree it isn’t canon, and then call it canon. They take moments of “weakness” Dream has shown, often to win sympathy and make his victims try to placate him, and use that to show that other characters have wounded him to such degrees he’s just forced to hurt them.
Tommy gets this treatment the most (and arguably, George and Sap too) but who’s next?
Wilbur.
Dream apologists love to mix these two up. Wilbur is the manipulative villain, and Dream is the one backed into corners. Who was it that took a look at an obviously erratic exiled man and decided to arm him? Was it Wilbur? No, it was Dream; Dream has always hated L’Manburg, Dream has never liked them because they growled at his bite during the Revolution. Who has always held the physical upperground, who punched when he was called names? If there was a weakness to exploit, Dream dug his grimy fingers in and pulled. Wilbur is, and I say this lovingly, a coward.
When he was backed into a corner, Wilbur often floundered. He doesn’t like violence and only resorted to it in his darkest moments. Wilbur did, and does, the things he did because he felt caged and cornered and his entire world was crumbling before him. He says fucked up shit now because he has nothing to lose but Tommy now. Wilbur is a scared, lonely and broken soul. He's a modern tragedy in the way that he had little control over his fate.
Dream is a Classical tragedy in the sense that he set himself fully up for failure. He saw the warning signs, he knew the full scope of his actions and cursed the Gods anyways. This isn’t to say you’re a bad person for seeing yourself in some of his actions or that him being a villain demonizes you for liking him. How often do we see people upholding other traditional villains in media?
Overall, this post is less telling Dream apologists they’re terrible people and more so about picking apart some iffy shit I’ve been seeing floating around in that community. Thank you for reading!

TLDR, because of preexisting biases and subtleties in story telling methods, c!Philza was set up to fail from the start. Whichever direction he took his character, a big chunk of the fandom was going to hate him. Props to Philza for choosing an interesting path and getting himself there as gracefully as possible. I’ll use everyone’s names to refer to the content creators unless specified otherwise. If you feel like I overlook or misinterpret anything please give your opinion in the tags, comments, or wherever else you like!
My first thought is with how he came into the story. c!Philza is the only character on the SMP to have plot points and head canons set in stone by other people before the creator even got to develop their storyline. He was set up as a paragon hero dad who would just solve all the problems in the story. To live up to that role he would need to protect every member of the SBI (and whoever else the fandom decided) from any form of conflict. That’s like if Gandalf flew with the eagles to destroy the Ring as soon as Bilbo found it in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings just never happens. Sure, great, Frodo isn’t psychologically tortured by the Ring for three books, but where is our story?
That argument is only looking at the extreme end of the spectrum. A less extreme argument is that even if he isn't perfect, Philza should have tried a little harder to protect “his kids.” What does that phrase mean? c!Wilbur? He was dead, and there have been a lot of posts on whether c!Phil had to kill him, but from a creator point of view, Wilbur wrote that in. Philza could only decide how he was going to work with it. Philza had his character struggle with how to deal with those emotions and guilt over whether what he did was right. He tried to figure out what had broken his son so terribly and when he found the source he tried to stop a tragedy like that from ever occurring again. He still isn’t over it, but he has taken steps towards trying to make things right as he understands things. Tommy didn’t even know people thought Phil was his dad until either Tubbo or a donation brought it up weeks after November 16th. Philza has said before that as far as he’s aware, his only canonical son is c!Wilbur.
My only complaint about c!Philza is that some of his motivation feels cherry picked to end up on the same side as Techno. Can you blame Philza, though? Techno is the person Philza knows best on the server aside from Wilbur (who wasn’t actively in the plot at that point), and they love working together. I think we underappreciate Philza’s story telling skills in getting from point A to point B, and I think a lot of people missed how he got there.
Philza’s story telling is very subtle compared to what we’re used to on the SMP. Tommy will tell us every stream that his current motivation is to get his disks back or to build a hotel. Techno will give us soliloquies about his current feelings and speeches on why c!Techno thinks he’s right. Philza does some of these things, but he also frequently uses little aside comments and builds things up gradually enough that if you’re not paying attention you miss things. In addition a lot of the details are cleared up by questions in his donations, and most people who dislike his character probably don’t watch his whole streams. This leads to confusion about what c!Philza wants and why he does things that ends with people concluding that he’s just a bad person or a poorly written character.
The last point I want to make is the amount of hate he gets in comparison to characters with similar values (namely c!Techno). Because of the story telling differences even people who don’t agree with c!Techno have an easier time understanding his reasoning and are less predisposed to hate him. Techno also explains when certain head canons don’t line up with his character and is very assertive when fandom needs to stay separate to make the story work. There are more people ready to defend Techno because his fanbase is bigger. c!Philza comes with a more complicated backstory, and he’s an easier target for anyone who is upset at the destruction of L’manburg or that he didn’t come in and fix everything like they wanted him to.
Philza was given a difficult foundation to build his character off of, and c!Philza isn’t perfect but he shouldn’t be. The nuance is what makes him and his story interesting. If you dislike the character for his flaws, I’m glad you’re able to be invested in the story and I hope you continue to enjoy it! But there’s a line between analysis and bashing, and I think people could cross it a little less often.

Why locking away Dream was never going to change the fate of the server
aka there are no big bad villains
/rp /dsmp assume all names here are their dream smp characters
tw mentions of abuse
So, the final of the disk war, the server's villain, Dream, is captured and narrowly escapes death by clinging onto plot relevance. The server is saved, the abuser has been put away to never see light again.
However, fast forward a few months and we're seeing the rise of two more abusers (Quackity and Sam), despite putting away the problem, it has recreated itself just with new people. Why?
Well folks, I'm here to talk to you about individualism and why, in real life as well, there are no big bad villains and in fact it's the systems/cultures that help create these people who then go on to do terrible things.
First off, let me get this out of the way before I get hate anons: Dream/Quackity/Sam are responsible for what they did and they 100% need to live with (reasonable) consequences for their actions.
So the server's villain is gone, but more have taken his place, why? Well what they did when they locked Dream away was, let's be real here, nothing. They put him in prison and then forgot about him, he is after all an irredeemable villain who was impossible to get through to and who needed to be stopped. Nobody looked further into it, asked him why, tried to understand why he did what he did, and we still don't know for certain, we only have theories. The characters themselves did nothing, they didn't search for the root of the problem. Basically what they did is they treated the symptom not the cause.
By doing this, they have assumed (in my opinion, incorrectly) that Dream was a rogue element, that he wasn't representative of a wider problem on the server (the culture of abuse and the cycle of violence), and so getting rid of him was getting rid of the problem.
However, what they should have been doing to stop something like this from happening again in the future was to look at the culture of the server and the events that lead Dream to where he ended up (an abuser with a "the ends justify the means" mentality) and if anything could have been done to stop it. This way, they may have been able to make changes to the way they acted, in the culture of the server, in order to minimise the chances of there being someone else driven to such extremes.
By viewing Dream as a one off, as a lone villain, they are acting like the problem lies only within the individual and not the server as a whole, and so have left themselves open to new people to take on Dream's role now that he's gone (Quackity and Sam). They've left the door open for new abusers to make themselves present, to fill the niche in the community that Dream left open, and they're completely unprepared for it.
The problem is with the server's culture, not just Dream/Sam/Quackity, but people are so used to viewing things as being done by individuals (the hero, the villain) who make big impacts and change the world on their own that we're not used to thinking of things in this way, and some may think that I'm excusing their actions this way but I'm not.
So let me give a real world example: Jeff Bezos.
Now all of us (hopefully) can tell that he's not exactly the nicest person, from the abuse at amazon to general billionaire dickery he's a bad person. Now, there is a world where Jeff was taught the importance of unions and of being a compassionate person. In this world, we have saved Bezos from being the horrible person that he is, we've successfully intervened! However this doesn't solve the real issue at hand that is capitalism, if Jeff Bezos never becomes the richest man in the world (or second richest now ig but who cares my point still stands) someone else will.
Now let's say we kill the current Jeff Bezos, we've removed the problem! Ding dong the wicked capitalist is dead. Now this would change a few things certainly, he is an influential man with lots of power, but the problem still remains. Someone else will still take his place because we haven't solved the root of the cause: capitalism.
Neither of these things (the fact that he could have been stopped or the fact that the culture in which he lives encourages this behaviour) excuse his actions, amazon should let its workers unionise and Jeff Bezos should redistribute his wealth.
The same goes for the dsmp and the culture of abuse. People may have been able to intervene, stop Dream from becoming the person he became, but someone else would have simply taken his place. They got rid of Dream, but didn't solve the problem because they thought it was everything to do with him and nothing to do with them, so now Quackity and Sam have taken his place instead. They haven't learnt from their mistakes. Yet this doesn't excuse Dream/Quackity/Sam's actions, it simply helps explain them.

- Lore Man asks if George ended up winning the vice presidency. George tells the conscience that he was supposed to be running for president.
- He was taking a stroll when Lore Man jumped out at George, but George was prepared and beat him fair and square. George, though he won, was terribly wounded, and he had to rest. The sword has an enchantment on it to make people sleep.
- George experienced an unexplainable lapse of time. He woke up and everything was gone, everyone was mad at him. There was a scar on his arm, dried blood, and he was confused.
- George harvests the day’s harvest.
- George asks why he’s doing all this work, putting in his blood, sweat and tears for people who care not. He goes to explore a nearby ravine.

- They visit the shrine where Friend is. The thunder booms, and a voice from the sky calls out to George: Mexican Dream himself. He has a story to tell. If George had become vice president, Mexican Dream would never have existed. He owes George his existence, and wants to repay him.
- MD tells George that the issue is, he wants to repay George but he’s dead. He tells George that this is all a figment of his imagination. He’s dreaming, getting information through his sleep. MD is reaching out to George through his conscience.
- Lore Man comes back to ask when MD is giving George sloppy.
Lore Man: “What’s left of you, Georgenotfound? You are a husk of what you were.”

- Lore Man breaks through the window and tells George that he should be happy he isn’t asleep, because every sleep brings him closer to his demise, and he will make sure George sleeps through everything ever again. George asks if Lore Man gave him a sleeping curse.
- Lore Man tells George to make the most of his cat house, because soon he will be sleeping in it forever. Outside, George finds a massive bed by his home. His conscience tells him that he must go to sleep within his dream.
- Lore Man tells him he has a revelation to reveal to George before he goes to sleep...he knows who George’s parents are, canonically, and also his surname:
Lore.
George Lore.
Georgre Lore Part 5 6
GEORGE SEES A NEW GUY
- George’s conscience tells him that though this is not real, it is a manifestation of something George feels guilty about.
- George sees a little kid crying at the edge of the lake. It’s Quackity. He’s crying because today, he lost the elections because George slept in.
- A new character appears. It is Lore Woman! She presents a cornflower to George. Lore Man hands Lore Woman a scuffle rock. Ranboo takes off his crown and becomes the Scuffle Man: overseer of the scuffle.
- Quackity shouts that he will fight alongside George. Even though George has disappointed him, he will fight with George to defeat the Lores.
GEORGERO LORE Part 8
THE FORMER CANDIDATES FIGHT TOGETHER AGAINST LOREMAN AND LOREWOMAN
- The two pairs stand at the scuffle grounds. George speaks to Badboyhalo, the floor goblin, for words of wisdom.
- Lore Man and Lore Woman are standing on bales of hay. Lore Man asks George to remember the wheat he harvested as a young boy.
- Lore Man tells Scuffle Man to begin. Quackity asks George if he has any last words. George places down the cornflower on the battlefield. It is time.
Scuffle Man: “Ten paces SCUFFLE!”
- The scuffle begins. Quackity’s legs are broken. They continue fighting. The Scuffle Man stops the scuffle. Something has gone wrong: Lore Woman has been shot in the head! She rebrands to Lore Lady.
- Quackity tells them that it must end with George and Lore Man in one final scuffle. Lore Man says he wants to use the weapon meant for George: the enchanted sleep sword. George responds that he shall plunge the scuffle rock into Lore Man’s chest.
- Lore Man tells George that they have known each other for many, many years. But he deserves to know the truth: he deserves to know his father.
Lore Man: “I am your father, Georgenotfound.”
- Lore Man and Lore Lady intended to create George to be the king of lore. But here he is, having slept through everything. Lore Man tells George that he wants George to make his first bit of lore. He says to take his sword -- named “Lore” -- and that he has only one canon life left.
- Lore Lady protests, but Lore Man insists that George must make his lore. George must make a widow of Lore Lady.
- Lore Man bows his head. He tells the floor goblin to take good care of his wife, and says to Lore Lady that he wishes for her to marry this man. George tells Lore Man to place his head upon the hay.
Lore Man: “Make me proud, son.”
George: “Farewell, Lore Man.”
- George decapitates his father.
GEORGE LORE.
LAST PART
WAKING UP.
- His conscience wakes George from a bed at Spawn. George discovers he has the Lore sword. George marches down the path into the distance.
- George’s stream starts off with a distorted version of C148′s Minecraft.
- George has no items. He speaks to Niki and Bad. Bad is confused when George mentions the floor goblin. Was it all just a dream?
- George turns around to see Mexican Dream. Mexican Dream tells George the story of how he visited Tommy and Dream killed him. He came back to see Mexican L’manburg. He found a way to come down here.
- George and MD reach the place where Mexican L’manburg used to be. They’re confused. Where is it?
- Mexican Dream shouts at George -- where is Mexican L’manburg? George insists he thought it was there. Bad says George destroyed it while sleep-mining, or at least someone who looked like George.
- George asks, what if it was Bad? Niki vouches for Bad, she doesn’t think it was him. Mexican Dream is heartbroken. He doesn’t have much time down here. The timer already went off. He doesn’t know how long he has left.
- Bad says the person looked like Quackity, but with different clothes. Mexican Dream doesn’t know who Quackity is. George does, but he doesn’t know where Quackity  lives.
- Mexican Dream sees L’manhole. He’s shocked, but MD doesn’t care. He made Mexican L’manburg because he hated L’manburg. He was going to do it eventually himself anyways.
- They go to Quackity’s old house underneath Karl’s. MD tells them to leave the room while he inspects.
- George wonders why he smells smoke. They run back in to see MD lighting Quackity’s room ablaze. MD tells George to find out where Quackity is, or else. He then disappears.
- Badboyhalo says this might be a good thing, actually. Quackity has been rebelling against the Egg for so long, he had this coming. Niki is upset. She vouched for Bad, and now he’s happy that Quackity’s house is gone?
- They ask if Bad was trying to frame Quackity. Bad says that he can tell Quackity that this is what happens when you double-cross the Egg.
George: “The Egg has actually messed you up. Can you even hear what you’re saying?!”
- Bad says they’re both coming with him. They’ll take a little trip to see the Egg. George asks why he’s acting like this. Niki whispers to George that maybe this is good, maybe they can find out what’s going on.
- Bad tells George that, anything he could possibly want, the Egg can give it to him. If Quackity asks what happened to his house, they have to lie to him and say that the Egg did it.
- DreamXD joins the game and greets them. They explain what’s going on.
- DreamXD tells George that he heard that yesterday, George made a deal with the devil and lost, so he kills Badboyhalo. The world is at balance now.
- He tells George that the stuff is his now, but George hesitates, wondering if it’s infected. Bad grabs the stuff back before George can take it.
- DreamXD returns to George, telling him that he gave him a chance at full Netherite. George asks for another chance, but DreamXD refuses. When George insists, DreamXD’s voice distorts.
George: “What happened to your voice?”
DreamXD: “You try and abuse my kindness -- I save you?! I save you, I give you full Netherite, you throw it away then you ask me for MORE!”
George: “I thought it was -- I thought it was fine?”
DreamXD: “Oh, it’s so fine, it’s fine -- everything’s fine! It’s all just a game to you, George!”
George: “I don’t know if I like this, DreamXD.”
DreamXD: (normal) “Oh, ok.”
- Niki asks if he’s sure he’s awake right now. George gets annoyed at Enderman sounds everywhere. He asks why DreamXD is acting like this.
- DreamXD says he doesn’t come here very often. George points out that he comes here a lot when George is here. DreamXD explains that George invited him. DreamXD doesn’t want to scare George. It just comes out sometimes.
Dream: “George, it’s me, Dream!”
George: “Dream? ...Dream?”
DreamXD: “Hm...he’s gone.”
- George says he would rather be with Bad and the Egg at this point. DreamXD starts to chase him.
George: “Dream?”
DreamXD: “Who’s Dream?”
- DreamXD laughs and says he’s not going to hurt George.
- George asks what DreamXD wants. DreamXD says he simply wants George’s acceptance. He wants to be George’s friend.
George: “I can’t even hit you. What’s wrong with you? And now you’re flying.”
DreamXD: “I’m god.”
- George tells DreamXD to prove it by giving him the best armor in the world.
DreamXD: “You really try and abuse me again.”
George: “No, we’re friends, we’re friends! This is what friends do, they give each other gifts.”
DreamXD: “All friends beg each other for stuff?! Apologize!”
- George apologizes. DreamXD forgives him.
DreamXD: “I mean, at least you don’t try and like, hunt me or something.”
...
George: “Dream. How do we just go back to normal?”
DreamXD: “What do you mean?”
George: “How do we fix this? You’re being --”
DreamXD: “I’m not Dream...I’m not Dream. Sort of. I’m a part of him.”
George: “You look like Dream.”
- DreamXD gives George some diamonds. George asks what to make.
DreamXD: “Whatever your heart desires.”
- George gets a holy spoon. They see Badboyhalo approach. DreamXD shouts at him and scares Bad off.
- They do it again, George aiming to troll Bad. But DreamXD gets a bit morbid. George says he doesn’t think DreamXD should have done that, but DreamXD thought it was a fun prank.
- They go over to Karl’s Harry Potter home and descend into the wedding chapel. DreamXD doesn’t understand what he’s doing wrong.
- George gets frustrated by the Endermen sounds again. DreamXD wants to learn. He doesn’t know when things are too far because he isn’t like George.
- George then teaches DreamXD to apologize to Bad, then suggests they prank Niki. Instead, DreamXD scares her away too.
- They pull a harmless prank on Niki in Church Prime, but Niki didn’t find it very funny.  DreamXD asks if Niki would like to see a magic trick. He makes her “disappear” by killing her. DreamXD brings her back. He says he sent her to Hell and brought her back into the church.
- Niki tells George good luck with him and then runs away. George says he’s done.
DreamXD: “Why are you giving up on me?”
George: “You’re scaring me.”
DreamXD: “I don’t wanna--”
George: “I just want to go back and eat my food like I used to, you know, back to the old times, farming my food, all in peace, where I don’t have to worry about you killing people, being weird...”
DreamXD: “But you’re giving up on me!”
George: “It just doesn’t look like you’re making an effort. I don’t know. I’m sorry, but...it looks bad on me, you know?”
DreamXD: “Well...well I’m sorry...”
- DreamXD says George can teach him. He makes a pun about axes. He’s learning!
- DreamXD asks for forgiveness. George asks what’s in it for him.
DreamXD: “I can give you your heart’s desires.”
- He doesn’t know what’s in it for George, but asks for George to just forgive him. George says that he’ll forgive DreamXD and give him a chance only if he gives George Netherite armor and tools.
DreamXD: “We can be powerful together! You can teach me, and I can teach you! I can teach you so many things!”
- George says he’ll be his friend if DreamXD gives the things to him. DreamXD insists on forever. George has to promise.
George agrees. Forever. DreamXD says if he’s lying, he will tear George limb from limb. They will be the best of friends!
- DreamXD gives George the Netherite. DreamXD puts on his Ender Dragon head. They will remember this moment. They take a celebratory picture.
- George posts it on Twitter. (DreamXD doesn’t like Twitter because they cancel him for murder)
- DreamXD says he will see George another time and disappears.
- George goes off on his own, wondering why he keeps hearing Endermen where there aren’t any.
- A sentient anthropmorphic cow version of Quackity visits George in the spider spawner and shows him a dog in the floor named Pluto, then starts talking to George about Yeezys
- George notices the cow is holding a...scuffle rock? Cow Quackity says goodbye and George wakes up in his bed at Spawn again.
He has everything DreamXD gave him.

I feel like we, as human beings should address the one overarching issue of not just the Dream smp fandom, but any place where people come together and discuss things they love. The issue: Debate. Discourse. Deliberation. Okay, that was three issues, but you get the picture. We, as a society (yes I'm throwing the 'S' word out there) need to get better at Debate. I get it, the four-year-olds on political stages have set a horrible example but I am here to give y'all a Tedd Talk on arguments, mostly pertaining to content creators but this can be used in any disagreement you ever hold. How to Properly Hold an Argument without being a Child in 4 Steps: Step 1: Never walk into a Debate expecting to change the other's mind This is a big one and it's one of the hardest to grasp. What? What do you mean? What's the purpose of argument if I don't convince the other they're wrong? The purpose of a debate is to offer your opinion and defend it against the world while you pick another's claim apart. Don't expect to change someone's mind. For your own benefit. If you see an opinion that is absolutely horrendus out there on social media, YouTube, Twitchchat, et cetera... and you click on it to refute it. You need to understand you're not refuting it to change that person's mind, but to display to the rest of your collegues why that opinion is, well... Bullshit. You live in a society where people are Ignorant, Misinformed, Sensationalists, or Trolls. Frankly, against certain people (namely trolls) you can't win. No matter what you say or how 'awesomely' constructed your argument is. You can not and will not win. All you can do is build up an opinion and post it and then suffer what 'deez nuts' jokes you get. Here, an example:
Troll: *insert terrible opinion here* Person A: No. That's wrong for reasons a, b, and c. You shouldn't believe that or spread it. Troll: lol, take a joke will you. You're so sensitive.
Naturally, this would upset you. I would be upset and it's okay if you are too. But you should not under any situation continue to feed the troll. Never expect to change someone's mind and never expect to win, especially against people like this. There is no winning in an argument, there's only hurt feelings and over-used claims. The best you can hope for is for your argument to sound and appear as the best option/opinion. Alright? Don't attack people and don't reply with pure emotion. Just breathe easier knowing you made a good argument, posted it, and the other is making a fool of themselves. Honestly, who's the fool? The informed person or the twelve year olds laughing about Bofa? Bofa what? Bofa deez - Aaand we're shutting it down there. So now you know what to walk in expecting in an argument. What do you do next? Step 2: Construct a solid Claim DON'T RUN! I SWEAT I'LL BE MORE CONCISE THAN THE ENGLISH TEACHERS OF HIGH SCHOOL! A claim is the core of your argument; the thing you're arguing about. It can be broad, it can be specific, but the most important part is that you stay on topic. Don't lose yourself to ranting. Always re-read what you type and delete any paragraphs that change the topic. For instance, if you're talking about the Dream speed-runs, you probably shouldn't go on a rant about the manhunts as they're two seperate catagegories and you'll look a bit confused. Step 3: Be mature, be concise, and do some research First things first: Don't deflect in an argument simply because you don't know something. Take your time, do research, form an opinion and come back to it. This will give you time to blow of steam AND stay informed. On the same note, absolutely do NOT use red herrings. Red herrings? Oh, that's when you deflect attention from the main topic with a shallow issue that's related. For instance, let's use discourse discusing a content creator's bias against... let's do something stupid like stuffed animals:
Person A: We need to talk about cc!So-and-So and they're Bias against stuffed animals. Person B: Sure, but there are so many children out there who are lacking connection and are never able to get stuffed animals due to strict parents. It feels wrong to only focus on one subject when there's a whole problem out there.
^^ This is a red herring. It's not always this obvious but for the love of all things good, don't do this. Second things second - this is SUPER important. Stop using Ad Hominem attacks in any and all debates. Ad Hominem attacks are the type that personally attacking your opponent instead of focusing on their position. I'm sure you can tell that politicians love that one - but it's actually an immature approach that cheapens your argument. To see it in practice:
Person A: I don't think it's a big deal that cc!So-and-So did blank and I don't see why everyone's making a big deal out of it. Person B: That's because you're a cc!So-and-So Stan. Person A: Well you're just a hater.
Right away you should be able to tell that there was no tangible argument against or for the content creator. Just a bunch of kids slinging mud on their opponents. Calling someone a 'hater' or a 'stan' shouldn't invalidate their opinion or bolster your own argument. Just because someone 'likes' or 'dislikes' something doesn't mean they can't talk about it, it just means they're likely to possess Implicit Bias or a subconcious bias towards something. Implicit Bias isn't a bad thing and it isn't something that invalidates an argument, it's something that should allow you to at least understand the reasoning for someone to hold a position. If you attack someone's personal standing instead of their opinion it only cheapens your argument because people now assume YOU have no idea what you're talking about and all you can do is hiss at your foe like a feral raccoon on drugs. No one wants to agree with a feral racoon on drugs, kind of how no one wants to agree with a politician. So, how can you better form an argument without mudslinging? It's a bit more complicated, but worth it. You research, you think before you type, you stay respectful, and... you listen to Step #4. Step 4: Sometimes. You have to accept that you were initially wrong. This one hurts. It hurts you and your confidence and all you can do is handle it best you can. I've taken debate and been in dozens or "professional arguments" (I hate that phrase) and I have been 'wrong' plenty of times. There's grace in that and it's an important lesson to learn. It is impossible to be right 100% of the time and it's impossible to be infallible. You have to accept that of yourself and those around you. If your opponent accepts they were wrong, do not continue to harp on them. That's cruel. Alternatively, if you realize you were wrong with your claim, you can admit you were mistaken and amend it. It takes a big person to do that and if your opponent has any decency, they'll recognize that. If they don't, congratulations, you've been arguing with a literal child. And now, you know everything about Debate. (That's a lie, but you know the basics and you can do a lot with the basics.) A good friend of mine once said that every opinion out there came from the mouth of both an asshole and an angel and we all have to be one of those things at some point in our lives. Debate, discourse, argument, all of that is hard and it can be straining or even toxic. Take a step back when necissary. Take a deep breath. Know that if you're feeling personally attacked, you're opponent is using immature methods to tear down your arguments. If you're argument is torn down and you don't know what to think, that's okay too. Take a breath, take a break, and allow yourself to mull it over. Forming your own opinion takes time and a clear mental space. You need both. So next time you see a troll, a jerk, an asshole, a hater, or a stan - don't let emotions get the better of you. Remember you are an intelligent person who is capable of forming your own opinions and NO ONE can take that away from you. Think, research, and then type.
TLDR: Don't expect to win every argument, don't expect to be always right, don't divert your opponents attention, don't personally attack your opponent, always be respectful, always do research, never do anything with pure emotion. Remember you're forming your own opinions and that takes time and space so give yourself that when you need it.
That's it! Best of luck Debating~

This is a rant coming from several members of the system. It's just something we have to get off our chest.
It's just. I hate being made out to be a villain for enjoying a piece of media that doesn't harm anyone. Literally this is something that I've found to be actively helpful, and a kind and accepting community, with enjoyable characters and even more enjoyable actors playing these characters. And yet because I watch this content, I'm on half the DNIs on this entire goddamned website.
Like, I'm sorry Dream personally offended you?? but that SMP is a server of almost 30+ people. And a good amount of them are queer, or disabled, or the best allies I've ever seen, and yet fans of anyone in that server is called tranphobic or ableist or god knows what for even going near that content.
Literally, my favourite content creator is part of that server. And you know what? He's one of the top donors of all time to the Trevor Project. He broke records to donate to them. He actively makes sure his community is safe for all queer people, especially trans and nonbinary folk. He's one of the very few singlets I've seen who is not only aware of the plural community, but actively tries to make sure we aren't alienated or polarized or demonized, and with the characters he writes he makes sure to check in with real plural people to make sure he's not accidentally writing bad representation.
Also "mcyt fans dni"???? really???? MCYT means Minecraft Youtuber. That is an umbrella that includes any person who has made a minecraft video on youtube. That includes every single queer person, disabled person, person of colour, anyone who has played minecraft and uploaded footage to youtube. That includes people like Jacksepticeye, or CorpseHusband, or that one 13 year old kid who posts videos of him hanging out with his friends on Hypixel, or literally fucking LilNasX, who I might add, is also a member of the goddamn Dream SMP.
Minecraft Youtuber. That is the widest umbrella you could have cast.
I don't know anything about Dream himself. But the server he created, while it may be named after him, is not fully and entirely under his control. Everyone in that server is their own person. And not everyone who is a fan of those other people is a terrible person, like you all seem so bent on saying.
This is coming from a system with about ten separate fictives from that source, who have to see this shit every single day and only learn to hate themselves for it. Who see that shit and think oh, then I shouldn't even exist. We are not harming anyone by being a fan of, or in some cases, literally being from that minecraft server. And yet we're harassed, dragged through the mud, and told we shouldn't be alive for what. For watching some guy play minecraft?
I'm just. I'm pissed. I'm pissed at seeing my headmates, my friends, be told that they're horrible people for even existing.
God, I'm so tired.
