AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be
EDIT: seems this is more common among ND people than i thought, and probably not limited to AuDHD specifically :] i was just describing my own experiences and didn't expect this post to blow up, so don't take me for an authority, but i'm glad it resonated with so many of y'all!
#actually adhd#actually autistic#audhd#aphelion.txt#ik 'adhd brain' vs 'autism brain' is a gross oversimplification especially given how much overlap there can be#but it at least helps me conceptualize wtf is going on in my head when i do this lol#and yeah i'm mostly referring to fandoms in this post but it can happen w more 'Traditional' special interests too#like my linguistics special interest which hasn't popped up in a couple years now but whenever it does#i will fill literal notebooks while studying 4 languages at once and simultaneously inventing a conlang#and then i'll be like Ok that was fun! and several months later im deleting like. 2gb of textbooks off my iphone to make room for an update#And sometimes yeah there is a precipitating event like 'Oh something new happened in X fandom with my blorbo!' but sometimes it's like#yeah. no. idk either. switch got flipped in my brain and X no longer sparks joy. only Y rn. how come it's Y? yeah idk i also wish i knew#i don't think any of this is actually an uncommon experience for people with these types of neurodivergencies it's just.#the severity of abruptness and TOTALITY of the switch that makes me feel like a weirdo sometimes lol#like I'M getting mental whiplash from this sometimes. idk how y'all are still following my blog

The craziest thing about Neil is that in his head, the more he did to save himself, the less he became someone worth saving. He genuinely thought he was not worth the effort. And then Andrew took one look at him and went "Yeah, so, I guess I'll burn everything to keep you safe".
#andrew's protective instinct should be studied in textbooks#aftg#all for the game#neil josten#andrew minyard#andreil

references for reading and studying the hebrew bible (named the old testament for some, the tanakh for others)—
biblegateway makes available most translations. ethical, responsible versions used in academia include the nrsvue (here with commentary) and the jps (here, on sefaria, with hebrew notations). software like accordance is helpful for those familiar with languages.
on languages—here is more on learning biblical hebrew. here are my recs on hittite, sumerian, akkadian (huehnergard, caplice), ugaritic, and aramaic.
holding the narrative alongside introductory material is meaningful—here is a list of many, and here is the book assigned in most syllabi.
finally, oxford offers entries on heuristics and methods that might help move religious study further in meaning. here are recs for my method
#faq#for anon#all are available for download on annas archive#if you do nothing else then read the nrsvue alongside collins' textbook#if you cant access something (esp the oxford entries) or if you need guidance w languages dm me#i remain here#study

That reminds me, I was reading this theory textbook, and deadass the FIRST 100% genuine thought that popped into my mind was:
Yeah, the way Goncharov subverts racial stereotypes by depicting the russian family as passionate and warm and the italian family as cold and calculating, is a very good example of how themes of race are handled in the film.
BEFORE REALISING THAT WAIT A FUCKING SECOND. THIS IS A REAL ACTUAL TEXTBOOK IN MEDIA STUDIES AND NOT A TUMBLR POST
#Goncharov#is the name of the theorist being discussed btw#or is it??#maybe I am showing you a quote from a parallel dimension media studies textbook

can I say something is this a safe space. it's kind of fascinating that ford is meant to read as a deeply repressed character and a capital s Scientist no less but he leads this other half of his life entirely dedicated to the occult. in the 70's-80's. like the historical connotations of the occult and what they represented in the united states at least seems kind of interesting in this context. for no reason in particular I find the dual aspects of "extremely dedicated to presenting as a logical, steadfast researcher trying to earn respect and social acceptance to the point of hinging all of his self worth on this vision for the future working out" and "deeply tied to the paranormal and "unsavory black magic" and everything Weird/freakish but feels like he needs to hide this aspect of himself from even the people closest to him" Very interesting. hiding six-fingered hands compulsively behind his back even if it's the emblem he puts on his journals. "what are you attracted to?" and "maybe you're simply attracted to things that hurt you" from two different points in the book. sweet dreams (are made of this) on the record player. hey does anyone know what that tarot card with a snake on it is meant to represent
#lab notes#utterly incomprehensible post sorry guys#and it drives me insaneeeee because people just don't talk about this aspect of him as a character. which like okay yeah makes sense#one half of the fandom would use it as shipping fuel and the other half probably don't want to think about it#but oh my godddddddddd oh my god. you could write psychology textbooks about this guy#to make it more obvious I think ford is not Just repressed about being gay and I think people go about it wrong#he is on some much weirder shit than internalized homophobia#and representing it through his falling in with occult studies/practices is fascinating to me#his 'the only way I can get what I want is if I sacrifice All my boundaries and autonomy' moment. real self-haters understand#[they start dragging me off stage] and do you ever think about how bill was literally a cult leader if we take the billville pages as canon#gfposting

can we get a round of applause for people who weren’t “gifted kid burnouts” or “a pleasure to have in class” and instead we’re just straight up dogshit at school. like downright terrible. teachers didn’t like working with you and no accommodations would help you get through highschool.
#dectalk speaking#AKA MEEEEEEEE#i’ve been looking at my old sketch books and like#teachers fucking hated working with me#i couldn’t study for tests#i rarely brought in my assignments#if you look at my textbooks. like 80% of the pages are all empty#i was TERRIBLE#not only bc of the ADHD#but also because i was extremely stubborn#like no teacher could get through my shield#IDK..

Look I'm gonna put my two cents in on the 'everyone knowing Clark is Superman' thing. Do I have anything new to add, don't know, but I understand passing so here are some things I know:
First of all, even if Clark was bad at hiding his alieness, people wouldn't know. Trust me, I have been mistaken for Christian (despite giving no evidence that I was) a lot, just because I'm not what people stereotypically expect look-wise from a person of my actual religion. It's not even that I'm so far from the expectation, but Christianity is the norm so what else could I be? I am Christian until proven otherwise, white until proven otherwise. And Clark is human until proven otherwise. People are constantly making assumptions, so unless Clark straight up flies into the Daily Planet building, no, no one is going to notice.
Second of all, Clark wouldn't be bad at hiding, he's been hiding his whole life. If people find out, it's not just Clark's family at risk, but his own life, and rights. So, yeah, I think him being an alien is important enough to keep under wraps.
I get why people like the trope, and to be honest, I hadn't thought of it much until these recent conversations. At the end of the day, people like to think they are smart enough to figure it out. And you feel special, knowing a big secret like that, you feel important. I think it's also part of it is this savior narrative that makes people feel good about themselves, like when people say they would've helped escaping black slaves or hid Jews during the Holocaust (by the way, some of these people are absolutely lying). Obviously those are much more extreme examples, but eh I'm tired. And keeping a secret is a much more accessible way (less bravery involved) to be a decent person.
Yuup I think people forget the context that when you're attempting to clock someone as "x identity" you're pulling from a well of biases that are probably pretty limited. I'm assumed several types of Asians before what I actually am, especially when I'm in America but certainly not limited to there. The "Clark is human until proven otherwise" part is on the money. It's why I can't stand MAWS!Jimmy apparently figuring out Clark is a super-powered alien from breaking things constantly. Regardless of how ridiculous that characterization is for Clark (he should've gotten his powers in control by that age), is concluding that he's an alien really the next logical step? How about "huh we live in an ass apartment if things keep breaking" or "your shoes broke again? you gotta stop buying cheap ones".
I've said it before but it bears repeating, these "Everyone Knows Clark is Superman/undocumented immigrant" hcs always de-center Clark's personal life for the sake of an allyship narrative. Clark has been hiding his alien side since childhood. There's no way he wouldn't be good at hiding it by adulthood, especially considering the very real risks that even his adoptive parents understood when they forged documents to keep him safe.
Yup to that last bit too. Similarly I think readers feel confident with their metatextual knowledge of knowing who Clark and Superman are so they feel it's obvious and are frustrated when characters in Superman's context don't. And they want to prove they could be better. It's the self gratification at the expense of a lot of Clark's characterization and basic logic.
#askjesncin#jesncin dc meta#i got the word “savior” from this ask while answering another ask like YES that's the word to place this mindset behind these hcs#if u study a lot of “shaming closeted ppl” narratives you'll find the marginalized chara acts illogical for the sake of allies to come in#and prove themselves allies or call them out for being closeted to begin with. maws is textbook example of this

I just want to be the smartest girl in the room and to know how to speak 7 languages and to always have books in hand and to always be best dressed and to always be on top of my studies and to smell really good and to do flash cards on the treadmill and to not be distracted by the things that don’t matter and to still have time for all my passions.
#we r refocusing on the 8 hour study sessions during which we stay hydrated.#and on the budgeting time#and on fitting in workouts and recreational reading and daily walks and friends and other cool hobbies#and on pursuing things that matter. but one step at a time#i will figure all of it out but not if I wanna throw myself into everything again and get overwhelmed#what am I accomplishing sitting here thinking about 9398378 things i wanna do at once. nothing.#too many goals to let slip by. and i love my study sessions anyway so i need to continue what i've been doing#and to just meticulously schedule everything / stay strong w my to-do lists#if u see a brunette glued to her textbook in the am at ur local library. that is me#we are going for classy sophisticated ivy league model off duty vibes. and we will get there. we will be fine#p

Asked one of my friends if it's normal that I have to study so much and get through so many textbooks just for a bachelor's thesis and she said, "It isn't. But [my thesis supervisor] knows you can do extra and he's a nerd, so he thought the textbooks would make you happy." How is she always so right, the textbook I'm reading rn is making me happy :')
Group theory (or at least the chunk of it that chemistry uses) is challenging but it's very rewarding to see my progress. The downside is I need to study for my ochem final too but I'm much more interested in my thesis stuff :'))) I'm still ahead of schedule though, so it's fine
#i used to struggle with quantum chem *a lot*#but now im starting to get it!#it's a good textbook okay#🤡#mine#op#studyblr#chemblr#studyspo#study motivation#chemistry#stemblr#sciblr#studying#study
