Prime Soundwave always looked quite like a bat; so I really liked the idea of him just having an area full of like. Servers, (super?) computers and computer related stuff, cables and cords all around to hang off of. But like almost in a cave-like way, him crawling all around (upside down even) the almost maze like place like a bat in a cave or nesting area; presumably with the use of his data cables. Yknow, his own area that basically only he knows how to navigate and use (maybe other than Laserbeak). So this is just him upside down 😌 nothing special yet, I also assume his long arms are helpful for that stuff

Transformer Prime Theory: The Optics

It’s interesting how, in TFP, the characters all have a variety of optics sizes and shapes, instead of everyone having plain solid colours like in G1 and most other continuities. And I personally believe there is some more biological reasons why some of these optics look the way they are (some big, some small, some solid colours and others not, and some having rings and others not).

TW: starvation mention.

THEORY #1:

The size of the optics is determined by how well fed and healthy the transformer is.

Firstly, we can see that most Transformers with big optics are Decepticons, who we always know have more Energon mines and supplies than the Autobots.

Secondly. Megatron has a big optic that take over the entire frame, and he is totally someone who would have a feast himself first before feeding his subjects. On the contrary Optimus have one of the smallest optic in the show, probably because, unlike Megatron, he would only eat himself when he knows his subjects are well fed. (Poor Optimus)

Thirdly, Breakdown and Bulkhead also have some of the biggest optics in their teams. Breakdown is one of the few in the show whose optics are complete solid colors, and, although Bulkhead’s optics are not solid colours, or completely take over the frame, they are still much bigger than most other Autobots. This is probably because they are both the muscles of the team so they must have been fed more so that they can be stronger and fight better. (Cliffjumper might have been one, too, because he also got a huge optic, but we never hang around him enough to know for sure)

Fourthly: Bumblebee also got big optics, probably because he is the youngest Autobot, and is probably still growing in a way, so everyone would want to make sure he got enough nutrients to grow up big and healthy.

Fifthly: I think this is the best proof of all. So throughout the show Starscream’s optics are always quite big and round (though it is not always obvious in bright lightings).

However, in the Orion Episode, while Starscream was sneaking into the Nemisis to steal energons, his optics suddenly fill the whole frame

(“Orion Pax Part One”, Season 2, Episode 2)

This is likely because, since Starscream had gone rogue at this point, and we know that in “Rock Bottom” (Season One Episode 19) Starscream has been hiding energons for himself, perhaps Starscream hasn’t yet learned how to manage supplies sustainably on his own, and quickly drained his resources that he’s hide for himself before. Thus, more energons in the eyes. That’s probably also why he has taken the risk to go back to the Nemisis to steal Energon cause he was out of it already. He was living feast or famine at this point.

Now, there are some bugs in this theory, such as why Knockout have such a small pupil despite not having any reasons to starve. However, knowing Knockout and his obsession with his appearance, I believe he would totally put himself on a diet to look even more fabulous. I don’t think Transformers can really gain weight from Energons, though, at least not in the way we think, but Knockout could also just love the look of a small optic and think it fits his beauty, so he starved himself to achieve that.

One question you might have for the theory, “But it has been going around that Ratchet starve himself to save the supplies for the others, but his optics are big?” Now. Ratchet, I believe, is a different situation, which leaves us to theory #2.

THEORY #2:

The ring around the optic signify how intensely the optic was used.

Firstly, like mentioned above, Ratchet have a special optic: his centeral pupil itself is pretty small, similiar size with Optimus’s, but it got a big ring around it, making it look big. Now I think the ring have nothing to do with how well fed the Transformer is, like the theory above, it is there to supply more Energon to the function of the optic, and making it sharper basically. Knockout also have one, probably for the same reason as Ratchet.

Secondly: Bumblebee also have one. Understandable. He is the scout, he need to look afar a lot.

Thirdly: if you look closely you can see that Optimus got these colorless, metal ring around his optic, too, which no one else have, but it doesn’t have Energon in them. This is probably because he probably used to have them, as Orion Pax, who was an archives working in front of computers all the time. But over the years of not using it in the same way as much as the Prime, Energons left the ring and left the area, leaving the empty ring behind.

Now, there goes my theories and how I think the optics works, kind of. There is still a lot that I am still working on and might make another post off in the future, such as why some of them had a white ring/circle in their optics (I don’t think white rings work the same as blue rings, cause Bulkhead have a white ring but he doesn’t have any reasons to need good vision more than others.) and why their optics are different colors.

Some sappy tfp Megasound hcs

Soundwave loves animals and once snuck off to watch some whales and dolphins leaping out of the ocean. Megatron had secretly followed him and recorded a video the sight of Soundwave being so excited over watching a sperm whale leap out of the ocean.

In addition to hc 1 Megatron watches that video when he's very stressed because seeing the happiness in Soundwave's body language calms him down.

Megatron once carried Soundwave bridal style back to the Nemisis after Soundwave got injured in battle: Soundwave refused to leave Megatron's arms.

The first time they slept in the same berth Soundwave was out like a light, Megatron watched over him until he fell asleep too.

Always settle arguments by sparring which always ends in a draw and with Megatron and Soundwave cuddling afterwards.

Soundwave likes to watch documentaries about Earth's history and nature, Megatron hates documentaries (especially history ones) but will watch them with Soundwave if asked nicely.

Had their first kiss after a battle at the start of a war, hiding behind a burned structure to avoid capture in that moment.

Soundwave will rest against Megatron if he gets tired during meetings, Megatron allows this to avoid a cranky Soundwave.

Megatron once tried to steal an elephant plushie after finding out Soundwave loved elephants, he failed but Soundwave was still happy that he at least tried to get him a gift.

Soundwave will often snuggle Megatron if he ever gets upset, specifically snuggling into his side and refusing to let go of him until Megatron comforts him.

Megatron kisses Soundwave on the back of his hand every time they hold hands, it never fails to fluster Soundwave.

Soundwave will often climb onto Megatron's shoulder and sit on it as he knows it annoys Starscream and makes him feel single.

Soundwave has every form of birdsong he's heard memorised and often plays them to calm himself down after bad days.

Megatron and Soundwave both want kids but know it's not ideal to have a baby during a war, especially as a pair of decepticons.

Soundwave has a collection of shiny seashells and rocks that Megatron randomly gives him. He doesn't understand why Megs does it but he likes the little gifts regardless.

i can't believe i didn't think of this sooner, but can you imagine tfp starscream giving optimus a proper preening?

like, optimus is used to just going through the washracks to rid himself of dirt and grime, but he and starscream start dating, starscream decides that optimus holding himself to such low standards is unacceptable.

(optimus tries to tell starscream that it's not that he likes being dirty, but more that they're in the middle of the war and he has to share resources with his team, but starscream isn't having it.)

as such, starscream manages to sit optimus down on their shared berth and treats him to a proper seeker preening. this is a huge step in their relationship, because this is usually only reserved for trine members, so starscream takes this very seriously. optimus relaxes after a few minutes and lets himself enjoy his pampering as starscream's long, thin claws reach into spots he can't reach with his thick fingers. starscream's humming away, singing to himself in a dialect optimus doesn't understand, but finds pleasant on the audials. for optimus, it's somewhere between a spa day and a look into a culture lost in the war. to starscream, its akin to a vow renewal.

by the time starscream is done, optimus feels infinitely more relaxed than he's ever felt. his joints don't ache, his back doesn't hurt nearly as much as it used to, and every part of him feels like he's been soaking in the finest of oils. starscream's quite proud of his work, all things considered; "treatment fit for a prime," in his own words.

(optimus makes a mental note to bring starscream to the first grounder bacchanalia he can find back on cybertron to return the favor once the war is over, if only to return the favor.)

It was a normal routine on the Nemesis. Soundwave was doing some work, Starscream was probably plotting something to overthrow Megatron, Shockwave was just in his lab doing who knows what, Knockout and Breakdown were prob making out in the medbay, Dreadwing was walking around the Nemesis, Predaking was just planning to kill Starscream, Airachnid? Idfk. And Megatron was prob smoking dark energon in his berth

Just then, Soundwave picked up a signal of a pod that had crash on earth. Megatron sent Starscream and Knockout to go check it out, seeing the two come back with a pod full of sparklings.

wuh oh.

Megatron:

-is kinda disappointed bc he thought there’d be something useful inside, although new sparklings means new soldiers, so it wasn’t that bad.

-he quickly ordered knockout and breakdown to check up the little ones tand wanted results soon after. (He wanted to know if they were in good condition for fighting in the future)

-he’d probably order some vehicons to make some type of room to care for the sparklings. And yes he’d keep them. Why? Well, not only does he want them for the future, but there’s a war happening. He doesn’t want anything to happen to them☹️

-after some time the sparklings had arrived he saw one all alone just in the halls of the Nemesis. He was confused, but he just picked up the thing and as soon as he did it beeped at him, smiling afterwards and started to play with his digits.

-after that encounter let’s just say there would be atleast a couple of sparklings taken by the warlord. (He wants to tell them stories of cybertron and his past)

-sometimes you could catch him holding a sparkling or two while ordering some vehicons to do stuff. (He doesn’t scream at them though, they’re lucky a sparkling is near💀)

Starscream:

-he hated them. Hate hate hate hate.

-why? One of them spat on him 💀

-at first he thinks they’re gross and useless. Like, he doesn’t want gross babies around the ship during a war.

-sometimes when he’s ordered to take care of some he’d make some vehicons (Steve) to take care of them instead. He doesn’t have time for gross creatures.

-one day Starscream saw one of the sparklings in his berth, it was left by Steve(he still loves the sparklings, he just got tired of Starscreams bs)

-this specific sparkling was one that was able to at least mutter some things out. So next thing you know, Starscream is telling the sparkling to repeat after him💀

“Repeat after me, little one. ‘Lord starscream’” The sparkling just babbled and giggled at him while he huffed in slight annoyance.

-after that he’d still atleast a couple of sparklings from others just to teach them words like, “lord Starscream” or “master Starscream.” He wants them to know he’s gonna be the lord one day😭

-the more he took them the more they grew to him. Sometimes he’d just take some just bc he wants something to snuggle with after getting his aft kicked by Megatron.

Knockout:

-same reaction as Starscream. But he doesn’t hate hate them, he’s just a little grossed out bc they’re babies (he was rlly grossed out when one spat on Starscream, but it was funny)

-When Megatron ordered him and Breakdown to take care of some he instantly gave them to Breakdown. He doesn’t want anything happening to his paint🙄

-after a while, Breakdown eventually made Knockout to hold one. As soon as Breakdown gently gave it to Knockout, it snuggled into his chassis and smiled up at him. His spark ached. It wasn’t so anything disgusting, it was just snuggling with him.

Sparkling cooing at him with a smile while Knockout started processing his thoughts.

“Hm. You’re cuter and more behaved than I thought..” He mumbled.

-after that the more Megatron would order him and Breakdown to take care of them he is more than happy to. He loves them now. He wouldn’t steal them since he sees them everyday. (They’re babies wondering on a war ship, they’re gonna get hurt🤷🏻‍♀️)

-he’d tell them stories of his races, sometimes he’d lie and say he’d win the races he’s actually lost at💀 he’d also rant to them about drama stories or horror movies he’s watched at the drive in theaters, in return he’d get some giggles and babbles and he loved it<3

Breakdown:

-he LOVES them.

-at first though he was confused, and a little scared. He didn’t wanna step on any of them, they’re so small he has to make sure of his surroundings 😢

-when Megatron first ordered him and Knockout to take care of them he was excited, still nervous tho. When Knockout gave all of them to him he was ecstatic.

-he’d play with them, show them around the Medbay, make them laugh, like omfg he can do this with our babies too ykyk. (IM JPJPJPJP. maybe.)😓

Breakdown just holding a sparkling.The sparkling playing with his digits and giggling. *cue happy tears* </3

-he loves talking to them, he just says random things and they just listen closely. He loves Knockout, but it’s good to talk to someone else in the Medbay too yk?

-He wouldn’t really steal any sparklings since he’d see them everyday either way. (Again, Babies on a war ship.) He loves them very much even if he’s able to crush them☺️

Soundwave:

-he was a little confused, why was there sparklings just in a random pod? Could they all have a carrier? What’s happening.

-he honestly didn’t mind tho since there’s a war happening and sparklings cannot survive in war conditions.

-when Megatron first ordered him to take of some he was more than willing to.

Sparklings giggling while they’re in his tentacles as he works-

-ok. Yeah. He doesn’t know the best way to take care of them, so he just lets them rest in his tentacles while he does work.

-but he’d eventually do more like flash them smiley faces on his visor, play some shows like MLP. (Megatron was caught watching MLP with them once-) and he’d even let them mess with laserbeak. He’s pretty gentle with them, he’s just gotta do work to ykyk.

-when some can’t sleep he’d walk around the Nemesis with one and let them hear recordings he’s taken to make them sleep in his arms. (He’d play like lullabies🥹)

Shockwave:

-he thought it was illogical they were there. I mean, war times, hello????

-he didn’t gaf abt their presence. He’s busy in his lab doing stuff (to me) Jk!!

-But when the day Megatron ordered him to at least take care of one he acted differently towards the little ones.

Sparkling just watching him work, “what is it that your optics are looking at..?” Shockwave asked, the sparkling just giggled at him. Making his spark ache a bit, all he said was, “illogical answer.” 💀

-honestly, it’s nice having someone else in the lab other than himself. Sometimes he’d get to show them how some projects work and see the little reactions he gets from the sparkling(s) (dw the projects r like safer ones)

-he’d make them little stuff too in case they ever get bored while he works. And he’d make little goggles for their optics in case of danger.

-Although, it’ll take him a while to act like this to them. He’s not used to acting so differently around others, especially sparklings. (It’s been a while, give him a lil break-) But he’ll definitely warm up to them dw<3

Dreadwing:

-MY NUMBER 1😍😍😍😍😍

-at first he felt awful. Seeing little sparklings in a pod during war ached his spark. He was like one of the only Decepticons on the ship that still had some good in him.

-when Megatron ordered him to take care of some he did so right away. Not just bc he was loyal to Megatron, bc he wanted to actually care for them.

Sparkling(s) just sleeping in his arm while snoring softly. “I’ll protect you no matter what..” Dreadwing mumbled.

-love this man.😢

-he doesn’t want them to go through anything, especially after the loss of his twin brother. Losing him was enough, losing these sparklings who haven’t even gone through much of life yet would hurt his spark even more.

-he’d cradle them, cuddle, literally anything that’s good. He’d take them from Starscream tbh, he doesn’t want Starscream rotting their brains with dumb bs.

-He’d also take some from others when they’re not looking bc he loves them sm.

-sometimes you could catch him under a pile of them while just smiling or chuckling. (Ima marry this man omfg. HES ALIVE TO ME.😒)

Predaking:

-confused. What’s a sparkling?

-when he’s told what they are he’s a little scared of them. He’s like a cat scared of a little puppy. 😭

-but when Megatron assigned him to take one he instantly warmed up.

Sparkling crawling around and Predaking in his alt just sniffing it. Once the sparkling sneezed he flinched a bit but he loved its small cute beep sound. “You’re mine now.”

-he’d carry some almost everywhere. He’d also give them little ride when he’s in his alt mode. Like he’d let them hop on from his wings and like fly around, not to high though. He’d fly like the perfect height for them.

-you could also catch this dude stealing some sparklings, ending up with him behind buried in them while he rests in his alt.

-he’d especially take some from Starscream and teach them to say nasty things abt him. He’d growl at anyone (mainly Starscream) who tries stealing one from himself.

Airachnid:

-HATES THEM.

-literally she is the last Megatron would assigned the sparklings to. ACTUALLY NO. I DONT EVEN THINK HE WOULD ASSIGN ANY TO HER AT ALL. (I’m sorry Airachnid lovers, it’s the truth tho)

-if she even had the chance she’d probably just leave them. Or fucking eat it.

-although if she’s in her era where she spares the sparklings then she’d probably just feed them and that’s it. Like nothing else.

“Hm. Take this cube, young one.” She said, then walking away from the sparkling who had a confused face.

-other than that they’re dead. She’s eating them for dinner.

that being said he leans toward eldest child vibes because of Miko and Raf

before his mom found out about the bots, he had this horrible thought that he'd have to get his wisdom teeth taken out soon and start rambling about the bots and their base

if he has to ride with Optimus for some reason they just listen to country music the whole time

whenever June makes a comment about Optimus or Fowler, Jack contemplates if finding Arcee that day was worth it

-Having a crush on Starscream while being human is... quite complicated.

-Does that make it impossible to get with him? Absolutely not.

-While Starscream may deny his affection to you, he absolutely does have a sweet spot for you.

-It all started when you first joined the Decepticons. You were simply going for a walk in a nearby forest, wanting to do nothing but relax, when you suddenly met the red and flashy Decepticon medic, Knockout.

-He was heartbroken after his conjunx endura, Breakdown, had sadly passed away. He had driven to the forest to get away from the bots on the Nemesis, just needing to cry his spark out.

-Despite your initial fear you felt when you first saw him, you still decided to approach the sad medic.

-And that's basically how it happened. He took you with him to the Nemesis, and after some convincing, you were officially a Decepticon

-One of the first bots you met was actually Starscream.

-When Starscream first met you, he was disgusted. How the frag was Knockout capable of convincing Lord Megatron to let you stay!?

-Knockout had actually convinced Megatron by explaining that he would be able to work much faster when he had a small helper to get into a bots crevices. Lucky you!

-At first, Starscream was very distant. He didn't like you, or your fleshy parts. He found it useless to have you around on the Nemesis.

-Often times, he would scoff and scowl when he caught a glimpse of you.

-The first time he genuinely had a conversation with you, he was practically forced to.

-It was after he had endured another beating from Megatron after a failed mission.

-He was filled with dents and scratches, it was incredibly he was still online.

-As he was sent to the medbay with Knockout, Starscream had been threatening the medic about his small organic companion.

-In absolutely no way did he want those organic small parts near him, much less on him.

-His protests only ended up fruitless, as he realised he was now stuck talking with the small organic, as you weren't allowed near him.

-To his surprise, you weren't that bad. Quite the opposite actually.

-It didn't take long for him to get absolutely infatuated with you.

-He hated the effects you had on him. You made his spark beat faster, and his processor run wild.

-He would still act like he despised you, but it was fairly obvious he wasn't.

-He would go to the medbay more often, usually using the excuse that old scars and such was hurting again.

-Of course, that was a lie, but he would use any excuse he could use to be somewhat close to you.

-As for you, you would probably notice his lies too.

-As you somewhat got closer to him through his visits, you would develop your own crush.

-The second Knockout even got the smallest idea that you liked Starscream, he would tease you SO MUCH.

-Of course, through his teasing, Knockout would also help you.

-Knockout could spot the crush Starscream was having on you, but he wanted you to figure this out on your own. Even if it was a pain to watch.

-Several times he would set you and Starscream up, making up an excuse as to why he had to leave you and Starscream alone in the medbay.

-You had to catch Knockout alone to explain to him that you were too anxious to confess, considering how you were... Well, human.

-Knockout really had to hold back a loud groan as you explained. He had seen Starscreams flustered faceplate when he was around you, and he knew himself that Starscream definitely liked you back.

-Instead of groaning, he just had to sigh and encourage you to at least try and confess to Starscream.

-Shortly after his encouraging words, Starscream came in.

-He had taken yet another beating from Megatron, and he was limping towards the medbay.

-When he had finally reached the entrance to the medbay, he practically colapsed onto the floor from exhaustion. He just barely held himself up, it was incredible he had enough energy to limp to the medbay.

-Knockout was quick to grab the second in command, hoisting him onto the medical slab.

-Starscream let out an exhausted sigh as he closed his optics for a few seconds, when he opened them, he looked over towards you.

-You hadn't been this close to him before.

-Carefully, you moved closer to his helm, snuggling into it. You took a deep breath, finally confessing your feelings to him.

-It was an anxious and scared feeling you felt as you confessed, but it was now or never.

-You simply just never knew if it would be your last time seeing him. War was unpredictible, one could never know when a moment would be your last moment.

-Starscream tensed as he felt you snuggle closer and heard you confess. He stopped breathing for a moment, almost not believing what he had heard.

-Gently, he placed his servo over your frame, holding you close. With a shaking voice, he confessed back.

-He had no idea how this should work, or even if it will... but no matter what, he will stay by your side.. ♡

ES SoundStar are very bird coded to me...and I think alot about that. 🙂‍↕️🤧 (ignore how crows and owls have perm rivalry) (my friend also said it makes sense bc why else does Starscream keep building nests (in my au) -> Soundwave get to work!)

The way all my SoundStars are different yet similar in all universes bothers me sometimes but I also love talking/being asked about them at the same time

Meanwhile: Tfp SoundStar is rather avion-bug v. lizard coded in comparison

TFP Starscream really really looks like a secretary bird with his crest/spikiness + the way he kicks his legs in the show lmao

Though: g1 SoundStar is super cat on all fronts in terms of personality and dynamics, IDW SoundStar is probably a good mix of all previous attributes with some minute differences. But again these are all based off of my previous writings and personal hcs and subject to change as I go or write lol

Bonus fact: my IDW Soundwave speaks German; he really only has ever used it to insult Starscream though lol at least post-war, it makes for some fun scenarios (like calling mr supreme leader a brat or a little-)

I think one day I would love to throw all my current SoundStars into a game show and let them duke it out to prove who knows their SO better, and the slow realization of how different everyone is and why would be the main kicker...

Everyone is baffled at ES Starscream for example over certain dynamics and methods of getting together, TFP is made fun of meanwhile for his general incompetence and IDW for well his committal of tax fraud of all things...😭 like really!? SG Starscream is too honest when he hears all the parallel counterparts talk and it gets him in trouble; they're all melodramatic, but he's the only one willing to admit it to the show hosts (IDW Thundercracker and ES Thundercracker) TF one wants someone to take him out of here rn, RN!!

ES and TFP are the eldest (debatable who older than who), but I think TF one is right after and then it's whoever after that (prob IDW -> SG -> g1)

At least all the Soundwaves' find it easier to get along (ignore they're getting ideas on how to handle their respective Starscreams' as well, minus SG Soundwave, he's still processing half of what these guys have done or where things have been done and how LOL) (like wdym that guy over there can be maneuvered like that!...?)

Also: Soundwave is super/overall very corviknight coded according to @sparkybot (I see it tbh)

I feel like Optimus and smokescreen WOULD tell the team about “the incident” under darkmount, but It would be vague like “oh optimus was badly hurt! like SUPER hurt!” and optimus would just nod and back up smokescreen as he takes the wheel on explaining things

mostly due to the fact in the current situation(megatron’s jurassic park project) they can’t really put pressure on them but they deserve to know why smokey was late and optimus became a knockoff build-a-bear

and neither of them want to remember that💔
