• Nepal is not bad! • 09/03/17

Na mijn negativiteit in de vorige post beloof ik in deze zo positief mogelijk te zijn! Het gaat hier goed. De momenten van heimwee worden steeds minder en ik amuseer me. Het stof, de vuile straten en vreemde taferelen zijn er uiteraard nog steeds maar ik word het gewoon.

Vorige week ging ik op date met mezelf. Ik had nood aan pasta en wat me-time (want je bent hier nooit alleen in het huis). Op mijn bucketlist stond ‘Alleen op restaurant gaan, op een plaats waar je nog nooit bent geweest en bestellen wat je wil.’ Dus, ik nam een taxi naar het centrum #hetmochtfancyzijn. Ik koos voor een Italiaans restaurant, La dolce vita en vroeg een tafeltje voor één #hahavreemd. Geïnstalleerd op het terras bestelde ik een cola én een glas wijn #dorstmaarookgoesting. Om te eten koos ik spaghetti #mamaikmisdievanu. En daar zat ik dan, op een onbekende plaats, zonder bekende mensen #justmemyselfandI. Jammer dat ik achteraf de rekening ook zelf moest betalen, maar dat hoort bij zelfstandig zijn zeker? Daarna ging ik windowshoppen en sloot ik af met een theetje. ‘k Moet toegeven, ’t was een toffe date en zeker voor herhaling vatbaar #goegezelschap #lol.

Via Lara (die gemist wordt) ontdekten we een ontmoetingsplaats/bar/restaurant, Artmandu. Een super toffe chillspot waar vaak muziek wordt gespeeld, tattoo’s worden gezet, aan upcycling wordt gedaan en ze lekkers serveren (vooral de ice coffee, hmm). We keren hier vaak naar terug en hebben er al veel mensen leren kennen. Als je ooit in Kathmandu bent, ga er zeker langs #goodvibes! Ook Roadhouse is een tof restaurant, waar ze lekkere en verse pizza’s serveren #pizzaislife. Ik sluit het hoofdstuk ‘eten’ af want ik krijg honger en weet dat ik straks rijst moet eten #fuckrijst. Ah nee, nog één ding! ‘Momo’, een deeggerechtje gevuld met groentjes en/of vlees (dat lijkt op dimsum) is hier famous en je kan het overal bestellen. Ik kan ‘Momo-hut’ in Thamel aanraden want daar is het verzorgd, lekker en hebben ze er ook met zoetigheden in #pffikhebhonger. Aja toch nog iets! Zeker ook een ‘Lassi’ drinken in Nepal, een drankje op basis van yoghurt #keilekker #maarnietoveral #opletten! OK EN DAN NU GENOEG OVER ETEN WANT IK ZIE SCHEEL VAN DE HONGER #hahadoei ik ga chocolade eten (KitKat met caramel, wahahaw)!

Ons lijstje met vrijwilligers die we hier ontmoeten wordt steeds langer. Chandni (UK, Londen), Russ & Beck (UK, Preston), Patricia (Zwitserland) en dan nog Priya, Skander & Timmy (België, aleja Wallonië hehe). Chandni leek op het eerste zicht niet mijn type mens #attitude MAAR ik leer elke dag meer om geen vooroordelen te hebben of meteen een mening te vormen over iemand. Want na enkele dagen met haar te spenderen vind ik haar een topwijf! Ik ben Facebook daarom zo dankbaar want het is zalig om via die weg nog contact te houden met de vrienden die ik hier maak #thanksMark. Ongetwijfeld zullen er nog veel mensen het lijstje aanvullen en ontstaan er nog mooie vriendschappen #ikgaveelmoetenreizen #geenhotelmeernodig.

Op een ochtend gingen we naar de Monkey-temple (heel mooi), die vijf minuutjes wandelen is van ons thuis. We namen de kinderen mee, om hen iets bij te leren. The green soldiers (die we in Artmandu leerden kennen), zijn vrijwilligers die wekelijks afval opruimen rondom de tempel. Aangezien Nepal vuil is en hun sorteren een ramp, is dit een super initiatief! Het leek ons goed om te helpen samen met de kids, zodat ze beseffen dat afval niet op de grond hoort en dat het opgeruimd moet worden. Het was moeilijk voor hen om dit te beseffen en Dipesh (de oudste) vond het helemaal niet leuk… Achja, we hebben het geprobeerd en toch een goede daad gedaan!

Na de lastige nacht in Nagarkot hadden we wel nood aan wat ontspanning. Via Chandni kwamen we terecht bij 'Seeing hands Nepal’, een massagekliniek. Het uitzonderlijke aan deze massages, is dat ze gegeven worden door blinde mensen. We kozen voor de 'relaxing massage’ van 60 minuten #hemels. Door het feit dat de vrouwen ons niet konden zien, lag hun focus echt enkel op ons lichaam en de behandeling ervan. Van onze handen tot onze voeten, alles werd gemasseerd. Ik moest wel eventjes lachen toen het vrouwtje de olie niet meer vond en ik de fles perfect zag staan. Ik bood haar hulp aan maar die wou ze niet #opdentast #zelfstandig. Natuurlijk vond ze de fles al snel #skills. Heel veel respect voor hen, maar ook voor de organisatie want ze geven deze mensen een job waarin hun beperking juist de meerwaarde wordt. We moesten 1800 roepies (+/- €16) betalen, wat dus heel weinig is voor zo'n zalige behandeling. Zéker de moeite!

Zo, dit waren de hoogtepunten van de afgelopen twee weken. Hopelijk zetten ze Kathmandu in een positiever daglicht en weten jullie dat ik hier gelukkig ben. Komend weekend is het Holi Color festival en volgende week vertrekken we richting Chitwan, voor een nieuw avontuur #spannend! Onze hond Rambo gaat drie maand acteren, omdat hij de hoofdrol in een Nepalese film gekregen heeft. De film zal ook gespeeld worden in België #moviestar #worldwide. Dus beste vrienden, ik heb die hond veel uitgelaten, liefde gegeven en weet dat hij zijn eigen kak graag eet #dirtylittlesecret! Tot slot voor de ongeruste mensen, Thairon lag drie dagen in het ziekenhuis omdat ze al lange tijd hevige buikpijn had en onze eigen medicatie niet hielp. Ze werd er goed verzorgd en ondertussen is ze terug 'thuis’, alles in orde #noworries!
