“'You care about nothing…' he was saying. And then he sat up slowly and turned to me so again I could see that dark fire in his eyes. 'I thought you would at least care about that. I thought you would feel the old passion, the old anger if you were to see him again. I thought something would quicken and come alive in you if you saw [Lestat]… if you returned to [New Orleans].' 'That I would come back to life?' I said softly. And I felt the cold metallic hardness of my words as I spoke, the modulation, the control. It was as if I were cold all over, made of metal, and he were fragile suddenly; fragile, as he had been, actually, for a long time.“

Just so good 😭💕🙌🤗
And because we’re adapting the whole of The Vampire Chronicles and taking things from later books and repurposing them, the idea of telling this story and them not being a couple… well, there’s no show! Their love story, as messed up as it is, is the heart of it.

it's so funny to me that a lot of people only know the vampire chronicles books by the TVL intro. like those books do have a lot of things to criticize but the general prose is good lestat is just like . that

The weird thing about reading TVC is that while you read iwtv for the first time, chances are you’ll eventually get really fed up with and tired of Louis as a narrator. TVL will be like a breath of fresh air after the emotionally exhausting experience of reading from Louis’s pov. But eventually, once Totbt or even Qotd hits, especially once you get to Memnoch, you’ll be groveling at Anne’s feet, desperate for some Louis. Every time he shows up to fulfill his meek housewife duties and give his batshit insane husband some advice that he will inevitably ignore you’ll start vibrating and screeching and rereading the 10 pages he appears on over and over again like your starving

Lestat is that ranting raving traumatized mother who says "All men want to do is fuck you and hurt you, stay away from them, never leave my side!" And Claudia is the young woman who realizes her mother is fucking crazy and she has to chart her course in the world and become independent. But then she realizes too late that mom may have indeed been crazy but she was right, there are men out here trying to fucking kill you. Mom was speaking from experience!

i have less than a hundred pages left in tva and im thinking about how all armand retained from his childhood after his trauma-induced memory loss was "not made by human hands". how he was reduced to his godliness, inhuman holiness in his painting, how suffering was purified for him in the caves, how from the start he was conditioned to be a vessel for others' whims to the point where even after undergoing unimaginable horror he remembered. he is not human. he is made for something greater, he is devout in his pain. and immediately upon remembering this. he throws up and passes out.
marius takes him and conditions him to something else, to his "perfected" image of a boy of the time, the glass of fashion mold of form etc. and this is the first time armand rebels, and attempts to forge his own path, attempts to understand the reasoning behind his idol's actions, but marius assaults him and it's again reinforced for armand that he is what others make of him. and if it will please them, he will do it. this monster is all he has, this is the sun shining upon him. this is god, and he is a vessel. not made by human hands. and then he's no longer human . (was he ever human to begin with. was he ever human to anyone.)
and the children of darkness come and force him once again in the opposite direction, once again traumatize him so severely there's almost nothing left except obedience and servitude and suffering as life.
and in the midst of that isolation and numbness he remembers his mother, the little gift she gave him, and he wonders if after these centuries it's still hidden in his forgotten coffin, abandoned when the coven came. her gift, the painted egg, his real self, his mother and father. is it still there. is it rotten and spoiled. is it dust. is it perfectly preserved and just waiting to be cracked open, waiting for the mess to be made.
and then lestat comes and cracks him open and makes the mess. your hands were always human.
what is he supposed to do with that? after 5 lifetimes of idolatry. how is he supposed to go on. you are a vessel for the one you love, the one you love is god, there is nothing else.

louis' 2022 life is truly SO depressing he's never been less alive than he is right now. he can’t reach his books, the nature’s all fake, he can never have a thought that armand is not privy too. his meals are all controlled, his anger’s repressed, and any show of actual emotion is frowned upon. even his memories are being reshaped and kept in museum-like display cases out of his own reach. in the proces of trying to gain his love armand has literally made him a ghost :(

25 Trinity Gate’s Do’s & Don’ts of Sex in Armand’s Bed
(or place representing thereof)
“Who’s your daddy?” will not be tolerated. “Who’s your mommy” will result in Lestat crying and while that doesn’t always ruin the mood, it does mean having to deal with it when there may be other plans for the evening.
The last person to use toys and equipment is responsible for making sure they are cleaned and put away properly. It’s not fair to have Louis do it, even if having them in alphabetical order helps when finding something.
Put everything back where you find it. The Georgian Library is not the proper place for a cat o’nine tails, even if I’m sure King George would have supported the efforts.
The list of safe words cannot be anything to do with parents, former masters or anyone else in the house who may hear it and come running. Sybelle is likely traumatised.
All blood is sacred and any spilled on bedding, carpets or any other surface must be licked up.
Lestat may not sulk if someone else is rightfully called a slut. He does not own the word and if he’s not being enough of one, that’s his problem.
Hair pulling is wonderful. Leaving hair you have pulled out on the floor so it gets tracked into the shower room is not.
Wearing pyjamas means you’re off-limits if you’re just not in the mood, unless you’re Louis. In which case, yes and no pyjamas will be negotiated by colour.
All dressing must be submitted for dry cleaning before sunrise. Explaining the strains on the cheerleader costume was very awkward and those pom-poms had to be thrown away.
Any cracked walls or tiling needs to be free of blood before someone is called to repair itt.
When Bianca stays, she has first choice of activities and who with. This is just politeness. You must also ask before borrowing her jewelery, I’m looking at you Lestat. Those pearls are not anal beads. Those are in the drawer under the bed.
Reading is not permitted during sex unless previously agreed upon. Remember how upset Louis gets when his books get bloody or their spines broken.
Don’t leave pornographic materials on in standby mode. Marius came over to discuss court business and thtings became very awkward, very quickly.
No lit flames, not even for the purposes of dripping wax. Find another way to do it. Those curtains were 16th century.
Do not poke someone in the shoulder and ask them to move over because you want to watch what’s happening with the person they are pleasuring or punishing. Move yourself, they’re in the moment.
Pinwheels must be washed and sanitised before use. It’s not about infection, it’s about rust. Same goes for vampire gloves, the material will be damaged.
If you are blindfolded, no reading of anyone else's mind is allowed. Sensory deprivation experiments only work if everyone plays along.
You do not bring another person into the bed without agreement from all parties. That includes that stray cat, it almost got thrown against a wall when it was discovered that wasn’t Armand purring.
Trains do not go up or in orifices without prior consent. It’s not being spontaneous, it's ruining their paint job.
Any collars must be lovingly maintained by their wearers. This is as close to a wedding ring as anyone is likely to get unless Lestat decides to have one of those mass marriages.
The Great Disney experiment is never to be repeated. We’re still finding glitter from fish scales in the carpet and that spinning wheel is an antique, not a prop.
The choking  is symbolic. We all know vampires don’t require breathing. Pointing it out will get you kicked out of bed.
No fake nails. We lost one up there and it still hasn't come out.
No pet names are to be used outside the bedroom unless agreed upon whether the person is wearing a tail plug under their clothes or not.
Other things that will get you removed from the bed: mocking Louis’ fuzzy rat socks, losing one of Armand’s rings in the sheets, smacking Daniel without asking for Armand’s consent first, breaking Lestat’s nails if he’s asked for them not to be, putting your hair in anyone’s face if they don’t like it, video conferencing the court while still naked in bed with everyone, smoking and not sharing (also bringing a lighter or matches, see the rule about matches), destroying lingerie and not replacing it, not properly securing the harnesses or breaking down the door (axe optional).

You know, I’m one of those people who’ve read the books. And I honestly wasn’t disturbed by EP5 in the least.
Well, okay. I am iffy about the Claudia assault situation. I don’t think it was gratuitous (mostly because they didn’t show it), and it does set up a few things: The Fang Gang, who show up in Queen of the Damned. As well as the general idea that other vampires are “not so nice” and that Louis and Claudia have been living in a bubble of protection with Lestat. (Which their eventual journey to Europe will fully show.) But I think there could have been a way to get that point across to Claudia (or at least why she decided to head home to get Louis) without that specific thing happening to her.
As to the Louis and Lestat fight, no, it didn’t happen in the book. But, I’m sorry, am I supposed to think Lestat wouldn’t be capable of it, if pushed in this way? We are talking about the same Lestat who raped a female waitress in Tale of the Body Thief, right? The Lestat who, in that same book, forcibly turned David Talbot into a vampire against his will in a parallel to that rape of the waitress? “Oh, but he didn’t mean to rape that waitress and felt sorry about it and even tried to help her later!” Yeah, whatever. He still raped her. “Oh, but David forgave Lestat and even admitted that he really wanted the Dark Gift anyway!” Yeah, whatever, he still assaulted David, with David fighting back and saying “no” almost the whole time.
Now yes, in The Vampire Lestat, Lestat says he never showed Louis or Claudia the true extent of his powers. (And he didn’t have the cloud gift in particular at that time anyway). So that whenever he and Louis did fight in any way in Interview with Lestat, we retroactively know Lestat was holding back. But any fights they got into never reached the extent they do in the tv show because Lestat never once was really confronted with the idea that Louis and Claudia were seriously going to leave him. Not like this.
By the time that was clear, he’d already been dumped in a swamp.
“But he would never hurt or lay a finger on Louis in that way!” So the gaslighting and emotional abuse/manipulation he did do to Louis during that time was better? Really? Both are still abuse. Hell, Daniel flat-out called it abuse back in EP3.
Lestat is a fucked up brat prince bastard. Always has been. And in the show, he is basically a walking billboard for Generational Trauma at this point.
Louis, for his own reasons/issues we’ve yet to learn, has never once said he loved Lestat back, either before or after the turning. And was going to leave Lestat to go with Claudia overseas to find other vampires who he will be vulnerable to and at the mercy of. (Because yes, Lestat is right to try and scare them away from going there to find other vampires for those out there who haven’t read the books. The real issue is he should have just been open and honest about why Europe is dangerous.) Lestat’s fears of abandonment compounded with all of that? Yeah, I get why he snapped.
But out of character to do it? Nope. Not under this circumstance.
Also, people should remember we are not dealing with young, impetuous Lestat here, as he was in the first book. This time, he lived over 150 years before ever coming to America to live. Which is why he even has powers like the cloud gift in the first place, I’d wager. (My working theory is that he spent most of those years with Marius, but I digress.) He wouldn’t be the exact same as book-Lestat at this point in time just by the very nature of having lived over 150 years doing who-knows-what beforehand.
I’m not sitting here trying to excuse Lestat’s actions btw. Just analyzing his character and where his POV is on all of this (and if it contradicts the books, which I don’t feel it does). And I suspect we will start to get his POV on all of this by the season's end.
So yeah. Louis and Lestat aren’t healthy at this point in time. They never were in any iteration of this story. That fight didn’t change my POV on what could happen with them in the future, however. Just that they have a lot more to deal with, and that Lestat has way more issues in this version to work through.

Saying this about Interview With the Vampire is a choice. Do y’all... not understand that not just Buffy but all modern vampires don’t exist without The Vampire Chronicles? Y’all know books existed first right? I’m concerned that you don’t know your vampire history actually.
