one big thing about polyshipping for me is, like. you know how some people will have their eyes opened to homoerotic relationships in media bc they'll realize, "wait, if these people were two different genders, i'd 100% assume they're into each other. i have a double standard that i never noticed"?
there's a polyamorous equivalent in certain media that's basically just. "if you didn't assume this character is monogamous, you would 100% believe they have crushes on & are dating all of their friends." OR, "if this character wasn't dating somebody else already, you would 100% interpret this new friendship of theirs as a crush/budding romance."
usually the creators of the media aren't thinking about polyamory when they make it! usually the creators of the media are thinking "i want this character's friends to be as important to them as their romantic partners, we don't get enough of that in media," which is great and true and also EXACTLY WHY IT WORKS AS A POLY NARRATIVE. people will be like you don't Have to polyship why can't you just let platonic relationships be important ugh 🙄 & i'm like i did my years in the "why can't two men just be friends why does everything have to be gay 🙄" trenches. you're not doing this to me. we're not doing it about polyshipping. we're skipping over that whole discourse cutscene because i am Too Tired For It. don't even start
sometimes characters are so full of love and affection and joy for so many people that i start gnawing off my hands about how polyamory isn't normalized. because i'll watch/read certain media and i'll be like. listen. this is a polycule. i know you don't know this because your creators don't know this and that is totally okay but you are a Wildly polyamorous person who's ambiguously trapped in the 2000s/2010s with Big Monogamy psyops eating your brain. please let me free you. please i can give you Everything .
PLEASE KISS YOUR FRIENDS

Marinette: (reads Lila's application aloud) To the question "What do you want to do in life?", you answered, "I want to resolve every political conflict on the planet in order to establish world peace and solve the environmental crisis. Also, free candy for everyone." Are you serious?
Lila: I could've added "I want to become your best friend", but we both know that would've been a lie, just like the rest. (S5, Confrontation)
Admittedly this. Does cast some more suspicion on the S5 ending.
Caline: ...it was in partnership with all our citizens that we adapted what we're calling the "Eco Rule". It consists of very simple principles: don't take more from the Earth than what it can give us, distribute its riches equitably and don't pollute more than it can recycle. We've reorganized everything to remove the need from cars, wrappers, and it's been working great! (S5, Re-Creation)
Yeah, idk.

Based on that last reblog, it has been decided that were Vergil in The Backrooms as an entity his mechanics would be as follows(putting under a read more because this was too much thought put into a shitpost):
- The Vergil entity is a rare spawn in any of the backrooms environments, but once he's spawned in if he enters active mode and you manage to escape he won't appear again for the duration of the run.
- Vergil has two modes, idle and active. When idle he's sitting in that cursed ass(affectionate) plastic chair and is harmless to your Backrooms run. When active- well-
- Upon entering Vergil's line of sight, or getting too close to him when approaching from behind, he will stand up and the chair will dissapear. Congrats the Vergil entity is now in its active state. You are now being Hunted for sport.
- Upon entering his active state his opening move is a JCE if the player is in range. If not, he will warp closer and try to go in for the kill. Pray you have stamina to get out of the way.
- Vergil will pursue at a casual pace if you escape his opening attack, warping closer to close the distance if you get too far from him. In multiplayer scenarios he will pick one player and pursue them until they're dead. If they die, he will re-enter idle state right next to his victim.
- Vergil's continued presence drains player sanity. If sanity drains too low, there is a chance of visual hallucinations of his doppelganger. You can take damage from them.
- If you stay still too long and allow Vergil to catch up, prepare to Die(tm).
- The only way to escape pursuit successfully is to solve the area and move on to the next environment.
- I have been told that I'm legally required to say that if you get Caught By Vergil you get called scum before he kills you.

I've said it before but honestly I'm still not over that before I watched the show I had heard incessantly about Hughes and Nina to the point that it was kind of a joke but at no point had I ever heard a word about the genocide that is a significant plot point and the primary driver of several characters' motivations. I get that it's not as easy to make pithy posts about and the story doesn't spend much time with most of the victims but it's almost a parody of how fandoms react to this kind of stuff.
