Lizzington shippers, fam, grandmas and grandpas, can I have a moment of your attention, please?

It's not a secret that, while some people in Lizzington community are still active, whether they write or make gifs or keep our dash full of Lizzington even in this trying times ( @melbob26-blog, thank you for this! ), Lizzington community as a whole went into hibernation over the last couple of years.

And I get it, interests change, especially when one show ends and there's another ongoing, moving on from the show that ended is totally natural, especially when it didn't give your favorite characters the happy ending they deserved.

I get it.

Hell, for a pretty lengthy while there I focused on other ships and shows, too, especially after TBL ended ended last year.

But you know what I realized earlier today, when I reread some of the old fics, browsed through gifsets and text posts, watched some fanvids?

It's the show that ended, for some in 2021, for others in 2023. And the only thing that means is that it cannot disappoint us anymore.

( it's not like we were suddenly deprived of quality content, because let's face it, the fans have been the main source of the quality lizzington content for years now, while the show gave us mere crumbs, on a good day )

But Red and Liz?

They are still out there, fighting criminals, catching Blacklisters, travelling the world, shamelessly flirting, toppling shadow organizations, raising Agnes and/or any other children they have, and generally being the sexy badass power couple they are!

Nothing changed in that regard.

So why would we mourn them, when they are out there, healthy and happy and in the middle of yet another adventure? I'm sure right this moment Red is drawing Liz into another one of his heists and she's only too happy to join him, even though she pretends that she's not, for the sake of the game.

There's literally no reason for us to stop writing, giffing, editing, sharing theories and headcanons and memes and just talking about our favorite couple.

And by writing all of this, I want to propose something daring to you:

Let's revive the Lizzington community!

Let's rewatch earlier seasons and gif the hell out of them because it's been a while and because precious moments between these two are not going to become less precious even if it's giffed 10 or 100 more times, not to mention that ever gifmaker's style is different, so there are virtually no two identical gifsets as there are no two identical snow flakes.

Let's make fanvideos, picspams, picture edits, fanart, moodboards! The amount of songs, quotes, moments etc that can inspire you is virtually endless!

Let's write fics, let's explore AUs, let's give each other prompts and challenge each other to try something new or practice some aspect of writing, like writing kisses or AUs or hugs or making up Blacklisters etc!

Let's share headcanons and theories and ideas and what our versions of Red and Liz are like, because everyone has their own unique versions of Red and Liz living in their head, and it's just beautiful, if you ask me!

I've just received a notification that I've reached 10,000 reblogs on here, which is quite strange and fascinating. On the one hand, that's a lot of times for people to reblog things from me, but on the other hand, with the number of posts I've blogged or reblogged myself (69,238) in the last 13 years, I would have expected it to be far more than that. I've never been a particularly big blog, obviously, and the focus of this blog has also changed as I've become hyperfixated on different fandoms over the years, which means a lot of my followers will only be interested in one or two of the fandoms I post about, if any of them, if they're even still active.

The post that reached it for me was the one from the other day paralleling The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and The Legend of Ruby Sunday. It's now at 1,450 notes and is currently my second most popular post of all time, after a post I made in 2011, which is my only post ever to break 2k notes, specifically 2,266. The vast majority of my original posts are lucky to get into the 10s or even 100s of notes (my average is apparently 17.18 notes per original post), which is fine by me. I wouldn't have been doing this so long if my motivation was notes-based. Still, it's just a little weird to realise how little it all adds up to in the end.

Obviously a fair few of the notes I receive are likes and some are comments, but it brings home how little I've been interacted with in 13 years despite it never feeling that way. The 398 reblogs on my Sutekh post from 3 days ago are 4% of all my reblogs ever. That 2011 Doctor Who day post has 1,343 reblogs (reblog ratios were sooo much better then, wow) and is over 13% of all my reblogs ever. For contrast, my Hide Away video (which was an addition on someone else's post, so doesn't count towards my total unless people reblogged it directly from me) has 88,000 views, most of which it garnered in its first few weeks. My Merlin fanvideo from 2012 has 11k views. A couple of brief moments of almost virality eclipse my entire time on this platform.

Of course, this is actually quite nice really, so I don't wish this post to sound all sad and mopey. I've been very lucky with my fandom experience. Although I've had a couple of unpleasant interactions, I've mostly stayed under the radar enough to just get to chill and yell about things with people in a pleasant way. It's just a surprise to me to get sudden context for my time on here in numbers and thus have to recontextualise what tumblr interaction looks like and how much of it I've actually been on the receiving end of. Regardless, I guess thanks? For the 10,000 reblogs? I'm not going anywhere any time soon, so let's see if it takes me another 13 years to hit the 20,000 mark.

maybe this is me being a fandom old, but I think it really speaks to something about the death of the old 'individual' led internet and the take over of corporate entities in social media space that these days when you search a character name or show title on youtube you just get an avalanche of episode clips from like NBC or ABC's official channel, mixed in with 'cast interviews' from Vanity Fair or James Cordan

I miss when you searched for a character or show on youtube, and what you got was fanvideos made with passion and dedication by fans. I can remember watching so many fanvideos for things like The 100, Doctor Who, and Stargate. I discovered one of my favorite albums because a Primeval fanvideo maker used that band so much, I discovered movies and shows I never would have heard of because I came across them in multifandom videos and became intrigued by their chemistry. I have seen fanvideos for Black Sails and The Untamed that legit rewrote my understanding of the shows themselves. fuck, I even used to make Teen Wolf fanvideos back in the fandom season 3/4 peak

and now those types of videos are near impossible to find. I know they're still out there, that people even still make them, but they are forcibly buried in a algorithm that favors corporate entities over honest expressions of fan adoration, and I think its a massive factor in what is legitimately killing fan culture

I've had BY FAR the best shipping experience shipping a couple from a movie where both characters are dead at the end and I was happily shipping it for several years!!!

You do not want to ship a pair that might not even go canon at the end of a 12 season show! TRUST ME!

since you're a book fan did you have a fancast for the dance characters before the show happened? 👀

i dooo 🙈 but with the way fancasts are taken so personally I'm 100% people would hate my choices.

I'm actually collecting content slowly because I really wanna make a book based video edit of the dance, using only my fancast, so I go back and forth with certain characters like Lucerys, Jace, Helaena, the twins etc. But here are some choices that I feel more certain about:

for Rhaneyra there's so doubt Holliday Grainger is the one. She's been my Rhaenyra for years and I don't see this changing anytime soon.

for Daemon, as much as I love Sam Reid because he has the face I imagined Daemon to have, he has 0 content to work with so I have no choice but to settle for Henry Cavill who slays with the silver wig. I know Henry is a hated choice for targaryen fancasting (and I blame the dudebros for this) but he does have a certain vibe i imagined Daemon to have so i don't think he's completely off.

for Aemond, I imagined Bradley James purely because I saw him being used as aemond in a fanvideo years ago and it has been stuck on my mind ever since. And for some reason I always had this headcanon that aemond looked older than aegon despite being younger

for Aegon II, I think Jamie Campbell Bower is perfect for him because he has played irresponsible, arrogant characters before and I think he'd nail it. Plus, he actually looks very good with a mustache, which Aegon is said to have had in the f&b

Last but not least, for Alicent I used to picture Natalie Portman but lately I've been switching to Laura Berlin. I'm still slightly indecisive about this one.

okay but every time I look at ship fanvideos and they give me Emma-vibes, she's always in the role that is normally given to the guy because she's the one who is protective as hell in a violent and super devoted way, and that's apparently more of a masculine role (the protector) and now that I think about it I'm guessing it's because in media/fandoms it's deeply uncool for the female character to be that way?

my Emma would be such a disliked/uncool character if real, because while she's the funny-stupid one 100% of the time she adds a dose of macho-ness that makes her a Weak Woman by fandom standards? (every Sawyer and Kate video that appears in my playlist? Emma could be in Sawyer's role. Look at this one. This describes most of my ships here)

but I love violently protective and devoted characters which is why I am so feral when it's mutual and it's not just the guy ?? And especially so if I'm roleplaying and the guy isn't used to be so loved and cherished? and I guess that's also why I tend to ship her with men who have similar characteristics because it's not supposed to be a gender thing

and then she's also the one who despite acting like a loving wife pales if called a girlfriend too soon and generally runs away from romance, so yeah, I stand by the fact that Emma would be despised by the fandom for being simultaneously 'too much/she acts too strong' and yet being 'so weak and dependent on the men she loves' and 'too mean to the poor man who loves her'
