EWAN MITCHELL PHOTOGRAPHED AND INTERVIEWED FOR THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ABOUT BEING RECOGNIZED
Like most people, Ewan Mitchell is accustomed to anonymity.
So during a recent trip to Manhattan, he was surprised by what a hotel doorman asked when he arrived: “You haven’t packed your eye patch?”
The actor is still getting used to strangers making the connection in public.
“I wouldn’t think people would recognize me, but they do.”
“I think it’s because of my strong chin.”
“When I’m dressed up as Aemond and catch myself in the mirror, he scares even me a little bit.”
When he’s not in character, Mitchell is soft-spoken and occasionally flashes a boyish grin, though he retains much of Aemond’s seriousness and quiet intensity.
He is also very private: He stays off social media and in the past has shied away from sharing much with the public.
“Once you lose the mystery, you can’t really get it back.”
HE KNOWS THAT AEMOND'S KEY ROLE IN S2 MEANS HE MUST ALSO EMBRACE THE SPOTLIGHT:
“There is a point where you have to go, now’s the time to pull back the curtain.”
Like Aemond, Mitchell is a second son.
He grew up in Derby, an industrial town in the middle of England, and his parents expected him to follow his older brother’s footsteps and work at Rolls-Royce (the aerospace and industrial technology company, not the carmaker).
HIS INSPIRATIONS AND BECOME AN ACTOR
Inspired by films like “Citizen Kane” and “Taxi Driver,” Mitchell knew early on he wanted to become an actor.
When he was 13, his teacher asked each student in his class what they wanted to do when they grew up.
“Then it came to me, and I said, ‘I’m going to be an actor,’ and everyone laughed at me.”
His family could not afford tuition for drama school, so Mitchell attended a two-year vocational school, where he studied design and technology while working part-time at a restaurant and in customer service at a local soccer club.
Midway through the program, at 17, he was accepted into the Nottingham Television Workshop, a drama group that trains young people in acting.
Through the Workshop, Mitchell landed a leading role in a 2015 short film called “Fire,” about a young man who leaks fire from his hands.
Once the short was released, Mitchell downloaded it onto a dozen CDs, took the train to London and stopped by the offices of every agent he could find, handing them each a copy.
The one person who called back continues to represent Mitchell.
“By hook or by crook, I wanted to make sure that I was going to be in this business.”
ABOUT BEING CASTED AS AEMOND TARGARYEN
Aemond’s growing prominence in the show requires Mitchell to embrace the spotlight as well.
“There is a point where you have to go, now’s the time to pull back the curtain.”
But being cast as Aemond in “House of the Dragon” has been his biggest professional turning point by far.
“Since landing him, I feel like I’m able to now steer the course of my career.”
Mitchell had been rewatching the classic Hollywood adventure film “The Vikings” (1958) and musing about how he wanted to play a morally dark character similar to the one played by Kirk Douglas when he received an email inviting him to submit a taped audition for Aemond.
When he eventually auditioned in person, he left a lasting impression on Ryan Condal, the showrunner for “House of the Dragon.”
“When Ewan came into the room, he just had this presence to him that I can best describe as unsettling,” Condal said.
“It was kind of quietly terrifying the way he performed it, and it was totally different than everybody else. And then he thanked us very politely and left the room.”
Condal recalls asking Kate Rhodes James, the casting director, “Is he always like that?”
She replied, “Oh no, he’s just a very intense northern boy.”
To prepare for his role, Mitchell did not watch “Game of Thrones.” Instead, he read portions of “Fire & Blood,” the book by George R.R.
Martin that inspired the show, and studied the performances of Michael Fassbender in “Prometheus” and Peter O’Toole in “Lawrence of Arabia,” each playing a figure who wields power for his own ends.
ABOUT MATT SMITH AND DAEMON TARGARYEN
On his first day on set, Mitchell consulted with Condal and decided that he would avoid interacting with Matt Smith, who plays Aemond’s similarly menacing uncle and rival, Daemon, in order to heighten the tension between the two characters.
Mitchell had grown up admiring Smith’s performance in “Doctor Who.”
But on set Mitchell avoided any eye contact with him, keeping his distance until the climactic scene near the end of the first season when Aemond and Daemon finally face off.
“There’s this addictive kind of quality when you’re in the shoes of a character.”
“When you lose yourself for a moment, it’s almost like a dream.”
ABOUT HIS HOME AND HIS DOGS
When he isn’t acting, Mitchell still lives at his family home in Derby and spends time with his dogs, three whippets named Eva, Bella and Bonnie.
“Now that I’m on it.”
“I’ve just got to stay on the dragon.”

Nicola Mary Tina Coughlan,
born on 9 January 1987 in Galway, Ireland, and raised up in Oranmore.
At the age of 4, she realized her dream to be an actor after watching an videotape film of "The Wizard of Oz". Likewise, she grew up watching her older sister perform in a school play. She attended Scoil Mhuire for primary school and Calasanctius College for secondary school. She graduated with a degree in English and Classical Civilization from the National University of Ireland, Galway. She then went on to train in England at the Oxford School of Drama and Birmingham School of Acting.
At the age of 9, in 1997, Nicola Coughlan had an uncredited role in action thriller film My Brother’s War. Coughlan was able to take the day off school and was paid £30 to feed swans, though she was scared of them. In 2004, she started her career with a role in Tom Collins’ short film, The Phantom Cnut, a revenge comedy. In the following years, she did various voice works in animated series. She was suffering from depression during this period and her family helped her through the entire process.
"There wasn’t one thing that turned it around for me — I got myself out of that stage very slowly."
Due to financial difficulties, Nicola moved home to Galway, Ireland, to work part time at an optician and get back on her feet. During that time, she responded to an open casting call on Twitter for Jess and Joe Forever at The Old Vic in London, and she just so happened to land the role of Jess. The show has a special place in her heart, as it was her first real break into the acting industry.
In 2018, Coughlan began playing Clare Devlin, one of the main characters, in Derry Girls. This sitcom is set in Derry, Northern Ireland, in the 1990s. The series was broadcast in January and February 2018 on Channel 4. But it was after its rerelease onto streaming platform Netflix in December of the same year that the show gained an international audience and an instant popularity.
In the same year, she also played Hannah Dalton in Hulu’s Harlots. The period drama television series is set in 18th-century London. This year also marked her West End debut in The Donmar Warehouse’s production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Evening Standard named her as “one of the Rising Stars of 2018”. Unfortunately, not everyone was a fan and Nicola was forced to call out a critic for the British Theatre Guide, Philip Fisher, due to his rude comments about her weight. In a poignant op-ed for The Guardian, where she demanded for critics to
“Judge me for my work in Derry Girls and on the stage, not on my body.”
In the following year, she made headlines again for rebutting the Daily Mirror’s comment on her 2019 British Academy Television Awards look as not the most flattering. She tweeted “I mean incorrect @DailyMirror I look smokin’, sorry bout it”. In July 2020, she auctioned off this Alex Perry dress and €5,000 raised funds went towards LauraLynn Hospice, an Irish children’s hospice which provides specialist palliative and supportive care services.
In 2019, it was announced that Coughlan had been cast in the Netflix series Bridgerton, which premiered in late December 2020. Nicola only had to audition once, and was soon given the role. In this period-drama series based on the best-selling Julia Quinn book series of the same name, Coughlan played Penelope Featherington. The girl is a reluctant debutante and youngest daughter of a nouveau-riche family in Regency-era London. Soon after its released, it was announced that over 63 million people had watched the series.
Nicola has remained an avid advocate for LGBTQ+ and Women’s Rights. Back in 2015, she went from door to door campaigning to legalize same-sex marriage in Ireland. “This was pre anyone knowing who I was, so I didn’t have a big platform to do stuff, but I did what I could,” she told The Guardian in December 2020. She also campaigns for the rights of women and LGBTQ+ communities, including with This Is Me in Ireland (which is run by her friend Noah Halpin) and The Rainbow Project in Northern Ireland. As she explained to Bustle during a December 2020 interview,
"Playing a gay character in Derry Girls and same-sex marriage being illegal until this year, I wanted to lend my voice. It’s not a cozy issue that’s easy to talk about, but I’ve got friends who have suffered because of legislation like this."
In February 2019, Nicola and, her Derry Girl’s co-star, Siobhan McSweeney women led 26 with their suitcases across London’s Westminster Bridge to demand the decriminalization of abortion in Northern Ireland. They represented the estimated number of women a week who had to travel to England to access abortion. Despite many celebrities calling for a boycott to filming in Northern Ireland, Nicola refuses. Of the matter, she said: “Just to state I would never boycott working in NI, I absolutely love working there and feel like my time is better spent supporting the women there by speaking out in interviews, protesting, etc.”

So time to be sappy on main.
The top left picture was taken March 12, 2015. Two days after making my Emma blog. I was about to graduate high school and go to college, leave the nest and be independent. Hoping to start my career in acting. 2015 was one of the hardest years of my life and one of the most emotionally traumatic. My first college boyfriend wasn’t a nice person to me, to be vague. 8 months of my life was taken up by him with my only escape being tumblr as I made the dumb mistake of getting him into my colleges theater program.
Throughout these years, through ups and downs, tumblr and Emma have been there for me.
I got married this year. I never even imagined myself having a wedding, let alone finding someone who balanced my weirdness with a nerdy grounding in science. I went from being taken advantage of by the theater system where I was interning at (80 hrs a week with being paid only $150 and no housing accommodations) where I met my future husband because I had no time to meet people so I downloaded hinge at 11pm in the stage managers booth and he commented on my Carmen Sandiego cosplay, to being jobless during the pandemic and trying to figure out where I fit into the world. Theater didn’t exist in lockdown, not the way I knew it. During lockdown was when I got my first acting role outside of college. I was in a short film and it won an award.
Since lockdown, I did retail and now work a stinky corporate job. Most importantly, though, I’m doing what I wanted to do since I was a child. I’m auditioning and acting on camera. I’m a lead role in an indie film (top right photo was taken on set last weekend) and have a few other projects that will hopefully be in the works. I’m able to actually try to learn about my mental health and learn who I am and try to grow from the trauma I’ve endured. I am in such a different place than I thought I would be in 2015 and I’m so proud of myself.
2015 Shannon, hoping you were going to make it and do acting, you’re doing it. You are working towards your goal and learning to love yourself. I like to think you’d be proud of me, and I’m so proud of what we’ve become and what we are going to continue to grow to be.
9 years and counting.

Do it for Dude - Remembering Cameron Boyce
Cameron Boyce was born on the 25th of May 1999. His parents are Victor and Libby Boyce. His sister is named Maya Boyce. When he was young, he lived in Los Angeles. He took dance lessons for breakdancing, hip-hop, modern dance, jazz, tap dance, and ballet. His favorite style was breakdancing, and, along with four of his friends, he was a member of the breakdancing crew "X Mob".
In May 2008, Boyce made his debut as a child actor in the music video "That Green Gentleman" by Panic! at the Disco. In July 2008, he appeared in General Hospital: Night Shift as a recurring character named Michael. In August 2008, he made his feature film debut with a starring role in the horror film Mirrors, as well as appearing in the mystery-thriller film Eagle Eye that autumn.
In June 2010, Boyce starred as Keithie Feder, the spoiled son of Adam Sandler's character, in the comedy film Grown Ups and appeared later that same year showing off his dance skills on the web series The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.
In April 2011, Boyce made a guest appearance on Disney Channel's comedy series Good Luck Charlie, and later that month he was one of the featured dancers in a royal wedding tribute on ABC's Dancing with the Stars. In June 2011, he had a small role as one of Judy's classmates in the family comedy film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. In August 2011, he was one of the featured dancers on Disney Channel's comedy series Shake It Up.
In September 2011, Boyce was cast in the starring role of Luke Ross on Disney Channel's comedy series Jessie. During pre-production of the series, the role of Luke was originally intended to be a boy named Hiro adopted from Korea, but casting directors were impressed with Boyce during the audition process and ultimately decided to recreate the role specifically for him.
In 2015, Boyce was one of the main cast members in Disney Channel's Descendants, playing Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil. He later reprised the character for the animated shorts Descendants: Wicked World and in the sequels Descendants 2 and Descendants 3. Unfortunately, the premiere of Descendatnts 3 was shortly after his death.
In March 2018, Boyce was cast in the ABC comedy television pilot Steps, in the role of Becker, and was also cast in the indie film Runt, in the role of Cal.
In January 2019, Boyce had joined the cast of HBO's Mrs. Fletcher. In April 2019, Boyce performed in the music video for "Almost" by Hozier. He choreographed the dance with dancer Christine Flores, who appeared in the video alongside him. In September 2019, it was announced that his clothing line called Archives, co-founded by him and stylist and designer Veronica Graye, would be released in November 2019.
On July 6, 2019, Boyce, aged 20, was found unresponsive at his home in Los Angeles, California. Authorities were called, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a statement made by Boyce's family, Boyce died in his sleep "due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated". An autopsy was performed, but release of a cause of death was deferred pending further investigation. On July 9, 2019, Boyce's family confirmed that his death was caused by an epileptic seizure and that Boyce was previously diagnosed with epilepsy. The autopsy results were released by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner on July 30, 2019, confirming Boyce's cause of death was due to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. His body was cremated, and his ashes were returned to his family.
On July 14, 2020, a year after Boyce's death, the Alex Winter-directed documentary Showbiz Kids debuted on HBO. The film, which is about childhood stardom and its effects, includes interview footage of Boyce. It is dedicated to the memory of Boyce and former child actress Diana Serra Cary who had died on February 24, 2020. Just prior to his death, Boyce was to begin production with Sandler on a new project. The project he was due to star in with Sandler, Hubie Halloween, was released on October 7, 2020, with a dedication to Boyce that read, "In loving memory of Cameron Boyce. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed everyday."
But although Cameron was now dead, his legacy lived on. In the span of 40 days in 2017, Boyce helped raise over $27,000 for the Thirst Project, which helps bring clean water to underdeveloped countries. In September 2019, Thirst Project officially changed the name of the Pioneering Spirit Award to the Cameron Boyce Pioneering Spirit Award, to honor his work with the organization.
He also supported United Way of America's initiative to end homelessness. He helped raise money for the HomeWalk in 2015, and continued to do so up until the end of his life. In May 2019, he participated in the opening ceremony of the 12th annual HomeWalk in downtown Los Angeles, one of the largest public events to end homelessness in the United States.
He also worked with the Lucstrong Foundation, which provides grants to families with children who are diagnosed with sickle cell disease and are going through the bone marrow transplant process.
His final humanitarian project was called Wielding Peace, a social media campaign in conjunction with Delaney Tarr, co-founder of March for Our Lives. In Boyce's own words, the campaign would "help fight against gun violence by showing celebrities and survivors 'wielding' a new kind of weapon — one of unity."
Following Boyce's death in 2019, The Cameron Boyce Foundation, a nonprofit organization, was founded in Los Angeles through Network for Good that provides young people artistic and creative outlets as alternatives to violence and negativity and uses resources and philanthropy for positive change in the world.
On July 25, 2019, the foundation disclosed the first project to be carried out was Wielding Peace, which officially launched on August 16, 2019. The foundation later donated $8,000 to Thirst Project to build a well in Uganda.
Do it for Dude is a small foundation that remembers Cameron Boyce, and supports his legacy. Join now for Cameron Boyce.

2022 Roundup
Here we are again. And by "we" I mean just me, because not even my momma asked for this year-end summary.
Per usual, 2022 had its ups and downs:
DOWN: The commercial agent who signed me in April 2021 left the company at the end of the year to start his own. He never got me one single commercial audition in those ~9 months.
UP: Their new commercial agent decided to renew my contract in April 2022 after a zoom meeting. She got me a handful of commercial auditions within her first few months for legit clients like Estee Lauder, Forward, NBC Universal, and Kate Spade.
DOWN: In July, the agency decided to dissolve their commercial department altogether. Womp womp.*
UP: Also in July, the short film I made with my cousin Marisa in July 2021 finally premiered at home at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase, and our supportive family got to come see it on the big screen with a packed audience. Being of the horror genre, it had a surge of screenings at genre festivals around Halloween both at home where it was shot and in LA where Marisa and I live. We even won BEST FILM and BEST EXPERIMENTAL at two horror fests.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other than that, I did lots of self-taping and had a few callbacks - both on zoom and in person (which I'm mentioning for the sake of historical reference). I was cast in a feature that was then cut down to a short film, and my character was cut with it. I did get to shoot an Amazon demo for their new palm payment technology + a music video with a lifelong musician friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I joined an actor training group in May that I wish I had known about during the pandemic. It's all online and covers all facets of acting: the craft, the business, and the mentality.
For the second half of the year, a lot of my energy went towards my brand new camper van rental business venture. Inspired by the newfound prospect of a "free" filming location, I spent September outlining a feature film starring my new Sprinter van. Hopefully, I'll get around to shooting something in it next year.
*Since this blog is really just for me... for the sake tracking my acting career... let me just write out my history of representation:
My 1st agency out of college repped me in exchange for free labor (internship). I was with them for 2.5 years, until they dissolved their entire agency. (March 2010-Sept 2012)
My 1st manager repped me, because I sent her a blind submission email asking to meet with her. We met, and she liked me. Very straightforward. I was with her for a little over 3 years, until she decided to focus on coaching and managing her child actor clients. (Jan 2012-March 2015)
My 2nd agency repped me, because I took acting classes from the commercial agent. My manager had suggested her class to me, so I took it for 1.5 years, and she loved me. They signed me across the board. I was with them for almost 3 years, until they decided to rep only their literary clients and dissolved their entire acting division. (June 2013-Sept 2016)
My 3rd agency added me to their commercial roster because of a blind submission (one email and one phone call). I was with them for a little less than two years, until they dissolved their commercial department. (April 2021-Dec 2022)
If the business is hard for actors, it's just as hard for their reps. If I'm not making money, they're not making money.
Apparently, I went without representation for most of the years when I was producing my own work through Shy Ruby (2013-2019). My agent/manager hiatus also perfectly aligns with the moment in Hollywood when Casting Director workshops were being shut down and exposed for the cons that they were (c. 2016). From the moment I graduated from theatre school in 2009, I was signing up for 2-3 workshops per week ($50 each), to sit through about 30minutes of Q&A before performing a quick scene for a Casting Director (or more likely, a Casting Associate or Assistant). I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I got so many compliments and words of encouragement, but maybe only a handful of actual auditions from essentially paying to audition for them. Read all about the scam here.
Anyway, it's just interesting (to me) to follow that trajectory and understand why I was jaded enough to step back from Hollywood and only work on my own stuff for the latter half of the 2010s.

Such is life! Behold, a new Post published on Greater And Grander about The Dancing Rabbit; Virginia Jones
See into my soul, as a new Post has been published on http://greaterandgrander.com/the-dancing-rabbit-virginia-jones-2
The Dancing Rabbit; Virginia Jones
Tyler is a versatile, award-winning screenwriter, actor, director, designer, and teacher. Born in New Mexico and raised in New York, Tyler went to Architecture school at Cornell University, where he graduated in 2006. After college, Tyler worked as a designer at a large firm in Boston and taught design at an Architecture College for a number of years. Realizing he needed a big change, Tyler began pursuing acting in 2009.
Tyler received training at the Stella Adler Academy and the Upright Citizens Brigade and quickly began booking many film roles, predominantly leading roles on small indie projects. After getting an agent and manager and joining SAG, Tyler landed roles on ABC's "Body of Proof," TBS’s “Men at Work,” CBS’s “Marry Me,” Crackle’s “Chosen,” and 20th Century Fox's "What's Your Number?".
Tyler is a huge fan of the sci-fi, fantasy, psychological thriller, and horror genres, and the first short film he wrote and directed, “Electric Blue,” was produced in 2015, and screened at a number of great festivals including the Williamsburg Independent, Atlanta Independent, LA New Wave, Kansas City, Roswell, and Film Shortage. He works with lawyer Natalie Hottle.
Although he currently resides in Los Angeles, Tyler prefers to work on both coasts. His screenplays and films have been selected and awarded at countless competitions and festivals throughout the U.S. and abroad. He writes, produces, and directs under his company’s moniker, D R K B L U Films.
What are you working on now that you’re excited about?
I’m super excited (and mortified) about a big crowdfunding campaign I recently launched for a dark fantasy thriller feature film epic called AETERNUM.  We need all the support we can get, so please hop over to check out the project on IndieGoGo, and if you can contribute, please do!  https://igg.me/at/aeternum-film/x#/
Tumblr media
Why did you get into the entertainment industry?
By accident.  I used to be an architect, but during the big downturn in 2008, I started to reconsider my love for that field.  I took a little break from the field to get some perspective and decided to try to do something entirely different than I’d ever done, just to have fun for a few months until I’d inevitably go back to architecture.  Enter acting.  What I thought would be a few months of goofing around and being far less serious than I was accustomed to, turned into a lifelong love affair, to which I never formally returned to architecture.  I started while living in Boston, got quite a bit of work out there, commuted into NYC frequently for auditions and shooting projects, then made the move to LA back in 2011.  I now focus on acting, but also screenwriting and directing, in my pursuits of making films.
I was 27.
What was the first project you worked on?
I did a couple of very weird experimental plays in Boston with this small company called The Imaginary Beasts.  We did a show inspired by the writings of Gertrude Stein, and it was really out there.  I was an understudy at the time, but one of the leads got sick, and I had to suddenly do the final two shows.  Apparently, I did alright because they offered me one of the leads in their next production.
How did you find it?
I honestly don’t remember.  It’s very possible that it was something like Craigslist.
What were your goals when you started?
To really just do something different with me, stretch, have some fun, loosen my mind from the pressures that had been heaped on me from becoming a professor of architecture (I was teaching at an architecture college in Boston and they wanted me to go towards a 10-year track).  I just wanted to try acting out, explore it a bit, and honestly just even see if I could get a single audition, let alone be cast in something.  I had set the bar pretty low.
Tumblr media
What are your future goals?
To become a full-time, successful filmmaker.  Right now filmmaking work isn’t consistent enough, and I need to work a teaching job in order to support myself financially.  I would love to just be working on my film projects with freedom and consistent financial stability.  If it were entirely a career in acting that would be just fine with me, but I also really love screenwriting and would be happy to entertain the more multi-hyphenate life like so many people seem to find themselves in.  A holistic approach to filmmaking, and my roles in there, sounds like a good fit for me.
Did you go to film school?
No, I went to architecture school at Cornell University.  I’ve taken some acting classes here and there, but I am almost entirely a self-taught actor/filmmaker.
What did you originally want to do in Hollywood?
Acting was 100% the focus.  Now I’d say it’s like 60% the focus, as I took many years away from it to pursue screenwriting in order to develop the skills to write and create my own projects, rather than rely on someone else to do the writing.  I did that because when I got out to LA and was auditioning for roles, I was particularly disappointed in the quality of the writing I was being exposed to.  So I had to stop complaining and do something about it.  My scripts have since won many awards at festivals and competitions, and have had many directors, actors, and producers attached to make them.
What difficulties (if any) did you encounter in Hollywood?
Nepotism is one of the grossest things Hollywood seems to possess in a way other industries don’t.  And it is ever-present and distinctly powerful in the film world.  There was very little of that on the East Coast scene, but in LA it’s utterly rampant.  I wasn’t prepared for that, and that really crushed a lot of my fledgling interest in acting when I first came out to LA.
What did you do for a day job while looking for showbiz work?
I have had a lot of teaching experience, so teaching has always been a way to financially support myself while doing creative things that mean more to me.
When did you decide to stop working for free?
I got a good bit of studio and network TV work very quickly while living out in Boston, so joined SAG and got an agent out there after about a year of pursuing acting.  From there on out I don’t really think I was allowed to work for free anymore.  I would have, I didn’t always mind that if it was a cool enough character/project, but rules are rules.
Do you ever work for free or on spec now?  And if so, how do you choose when to work on those terms?
I’ll work for free for a friend in an acting capacity.  In terms of writing, I have to constantly write on spec or create decks on spec to pitch projects, etc.  That side of filmmaking is more spec than not, for most people, I’m pretty sure.
What are you currently working on, and how did you arrive here?
I always have a few projects moving around in different stages of development, but the one I’m really focused on and passionate about right now is AETERNUM:
“A grieving hypnotherapist must help a mysterious man with special abilities regain his memory in order to find her missing son.”
The film is going to be visually stunning; and takes inspiration from other tonal fantasy epics like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Fountain, Midnight Special, The Fall, and the Tree of Life.  With Aeternum I wanted to make a film that was truly original, that would be visually gorgeous, be infused with everything I want to say to the world, and be able to retain as much creative control over as possible.  Thus, the crowdfunding effort.  Which has been nothing short of nerve-wracking.
What’s the biggest thing you depend on, on set?
A really comfortable feeling amongst everyone on set.  When things are tense or chaotic or people are disagreeing or being petty or unprofessional, it makes it very hard to make a movie, whether in front or behind the camera.  When I’m the actor, I’m always trying to be friendly and connect with everyone.  When I’m the director, I’m always asking everyone how they’re doing and if they have what they need, and reminding everyone to have a good time.  We take as many breaks as we need but also push for high quality and time efficiency.
Did someone ever try to take advantage of your inexperience in Hollywood?
Yes.  They still do.  I don’t want to name any names (I mean I do want to but I’ll restrain myself), but there have been writers and producers in particular that have stolen script ideas and stolen large parts of actual scripts themselves.  I cannot underscore how deeply painful and infuriating those experiences have been, and how much they’ve made me question both the value of the film industry and the integrity of the people in it.
Did you ever pay for a program that promised big results to help further your career, but it never delivered?
Not really no.  I haven’t taken too many classes or anything like that, and none of the ones I’ve taken made big promises, as far as I can recall.
Did you ever come across a project or a person that looked promising, and then the whole thing blew up in your face?
I was offered a unique opportunity through a director that was attached to one of my projects to work with this new seemingly cutting-edge technology that would get us all kinds of access to various things.  Without giving too many specifics, the person offering the “opportunity” turned out to be pretty shady, and wasn’t going to honor certain things he said he would, so the director and I jumped ship.
Were you ever put in a position where you were asked to compromise your artistic integrity?  What did you do?
All the time.  The tricky thing about writing scripts for projects meant for me to act in basically fundamentally invites this kind of problem.  Often times producers will read a script of mine, love it, and want to make it, but refuse to have me play the role I’ve scripted for myself.  Most of the time I say, nope, this is non-negotiable.  Lately, there’ve been a couple of times where I’ve caved, but I hate it, it feels awful.
Did anyone ever approach you and say they would offer you a job if you slept with them?
Nah, I think people know better than me.  You can take one look at me and know I’m not gonna put up with that.
Be honest, what’s the worst part of your job?  Or the part of the job you enjoy the least?
All the hustle and the bullshit.  I’m creative; I’m not a businessman or agent or marketing specialist; and I don’t want to be those things in order to make my art.  I think it’s sad that we need to do those things, to try to sell ourselves to others, in order to be granted permission to do something we love.  The math of it doesn’t work out.
If you had it to do over again, what would you do differently?
In an alternate universe, I would get involved with acting at a younger age to give myself more time to build a resume and experience.  But there are of course a slew of negative side effects that come with acting at a younger age, which I would not have been keen on.  I also probably should’ve just stayed in Boston/NYC, frankly.  LA is for people who have daddies in the industry pulling strings for them, not for people just trying to break in based on a meritocracy system.  Because there really isn’t one here in LA, unfortunately.
What motto do you try to live your life by?
I don’t have a motto for my life, but I try to always consult my heart, consult my head, consult my spirituality, stay as present as I can, and stay as true to myself as I can–difficult as all of those are to maintain.  I like to maintain a careful balance between freedom and routine, and adventurousness and groundedness.
Where’s your favorite place in Los Angeles?
The Museum of Jurassic Technology.  The coolest place in LA.

Please. Margo comes from money and spent more time on vacation than she did working when she dated Seb. Just because she’s an immigrant doesn’t mean she is poor and has a work ethic. People forget she did CA multiple times. Posted herself wearing Native America headdress in IG and laughed at people who called her out for it /// Well, first of all, it was a pic of her in a headdress, which is bad, but it was literally just her wearing it, no party, no full face paint, no offensive captions full of slurs. It’s still CA and still bad but just never on the level of Alejandra. I legit don’t remember her laughing at people or even people calling her out for it. They did however called her out for wearing a fur hat, which she was adamant to keep. And what you say did CA multiple times? When was that? Native headdress is one. That’s it. Her work ethic... yep, she wasn’t anywhere near the level of the workaholic Seb, despite that however she worked a lot. First of all, during her rs with Seb (in a span of 2 years), she did multiple acting workshops, which your precious AW is so above, she filmed 2 tv shows, at least 4 movies 2 of which ended up at Sundance. Already more than AW did in the last 2 years. She filmed 2 shorts for which she got some awards as the best actress and filmed a music video for a suicide awareness. Did AW ever do that? Did AW ever get any awards for her acting? Genuinely asking btw. Anyway, Margo ended up getting her role in The Deuce while still with Seb and he helped her film her audition tape after which she immediately cut their trip to London short to go back to in person audition. Just a few months after their breakup, she did an off broadway performance, ended up getting another longer off broadway play, filmed another movie, got some festival notices, got a part in a charity HBO monologue project, got her own TV show on Netflix in which she was THE LEAD in and the shoot was almost 6 months long, got another co-lead in a mini-series, filmed that, had 2 photoshoots, had multiple auditions, went back to London and did the promo for the mini series and now got 2 roles in 2 big franchises, one of which she’s currently filming in England. That to me sounds like WAY more than what AW did in the past year or 5. Margo’s vacations weren’t even so slumped together the way it always is with Alejandra who works for 3 days and then immediately goes to spa and vacations. I can recall just 2 proper vacations she’s had while in a rs with Seb (Mexico and Italy for his bday) all of which happened in 2014 and 2015. She started going on vacations more after their break up. I remember the issue with her being not working as much as he was, not even going some place. She was also actively involved in the charity in which SHE did something rather than asking people to do something. She read to the elderly every other month and visited children charities and actually spent time with them teaching them acting and dancing stuff. When was the last time AW did something like that? Oh yeah, she was at the donation location of Pine’s supported charity in 2020. Good for her. I’d ask whether she’d be there without him but I think we all know the answer.

marblehornets.com info masterpost
Tumblr media
marblehornets.com was the in-universe production website for alex’s film. created for the short-lived clear lakes 44, it offered secret codes and additional info for the series.
it went down sometime ago, the url now defunct. thankfully, most of the site was archived via the wayback machine.
the purpose of this post is to compile every aspect of this site, especially it’s hidden ones, in one place. many newer fans may not be aware of the website, much less the additional secret pages and inaccessible blog posts that shed more light on alex’s character. this post will not go into detail regarding the codes or interpretations, just providing otherwise hard to find info.
if you posted about clear lakes during it’s short run or archived any of it’s pages, thank you from the bottom of my heart, because this post couldn’t have been made without you <3

the cast and crew list is accessible from there.
the email does not work.
While the site was active, the director sign-in link would open a window to input a username and passcode, which gave access to alex’s production blogs. due to the way the wayback machine archives sites, this feature was not preserved, and alex’s blogs seem inaccessible, the link leading to an error page. thankfully, I was able to find them in the form of screenshots across multiple tumblr blogs.
it should be noted that the site and some of it’s pages updated as the arg progressed. these changes can be viewed with the wayback machine.

Cameron Mackintosh, The West End, and Transphobia in Musical Theatre
So I cannot be a trans person who talks about musicals without addressing this. I haven’t seen anyone else talking about this, and they may well have I just haven’t seen, and this interview is a few weeks old now.
For those unaware of who Cameron Mackintosh is, he perhaps the most famous musical theatre producer and is the producer behind the original productions of: Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Kinky Boots, Cats, Mary Poppins, Oliver, Little Shop of Horrors. And the West End versions of: Anything Goes, Follies, Carousel (1993), Oklahoma (1980), My Fair Lady )1970s and 2001), Godspell, Avenue Q (2006), Hair (2010), Sweeney Todd (2015) and most recently the West End production of Hamilton (2017-present), as well as many other musicals. He was knighted in 2017, as of 2019 he has an estimated fortune of £1.28 billion and has been called "the most successful, influential and powerful theatrical producer in the world" by the New York Times.
Tumblr media
Let’s take this point by point shall we?
Tumblr media
"Classic West End musicals should not be rewritten to make leading roles transgender”. They wouldn’t have to be. If a trans man was cast as Raoul in Phantom of the Opera, nothing would be changed, nothing would be rewritten, it would just happened to be a trans man playing the part instead. Because trans men are men, trans women are women, they are not ‘other’. Nothing, absolutely nothing would have to be rewritten. For all the audience would know, that could be a cis actor playing the part.
You know how I know casting an LGBT+ person as a character who is cis or het makes no difference? There are multiple gay actors who have played Erik/The Phantom in Phantom of the Opera and the role never had to be ‘rewritten’ for them.
If what he means is the music would have to be rewritten, I don't accept that either. I doubt a trans person is going in for a part they do not have the range for. Some trans people may not be able to sing way out of their assigned-birth-gender vocal range, but some can. I doubt this man has ever sat through an audition of a bass Christine Daaé or a soprano Phantom. There are cis men singing high notes in Jesus Christ Superstar, of course plenty of trans woman can sing high notes. Vocal range is not static to your birth gender.
Tumblr media
“You can’t implant something that is not inherently there in the story of character.” People make headcannons about characters being trans because there is no proof that they aren’t. Nowhere in any of these musicals that Mackintosh producers do any of the characters ever call themselves cis. For all we know Munkustrap or Mary Poppins or Enjolras could be trans, and some trans people find comfort in that. Show me somewhere in the original libretto where it says any of these characters are “cisgenered”. You can’t. No of course the original writers never thought about that, I’m some of them are transphobic and would hate the idea, but it is not implanting anything that goes against anything mentioned in the text. And again, like in the point above, would not change anything to the story.
Tumblr media
Ah, there it is. Suddenly we’ve gone from trying to hide the transphobia behind ‘no, it’s just that it wouldn’t fit in the story’ to ‘trans people are unnatural and putting trans people in things is just forcing people to see them’. As if this needs to be said, but there is nothing unnatural about trans people. Casting trans people is not ‘forcing wokeness’ it’s just employing anyone who is talented enough for the part. For a community that prides itself on being inclusive and lgbt+ positive, that really does only seem to apply to cis gay men a lot, doesn’t it.
Tumblr media
Already addressed above why it isn’t “inherently there in the story”, but also no, being trans isn’t a ‘gimmick’, casting a trans character in a role is not a ‘gimmick’ done to try and bring in lgbt+ viewers (at least it never should be). Actors are not just a silly part of your show, they are a key part of your show and they have their own experiences that they bring too the table and make each character their own, and that includes trans people.
Tumblr media
That’s very interesting. Wrong, but let’s see what he means. There’s a new musical opening up soon on the West End where the lead character is a trans woman. It’s an adaptation of the book Breakfast On Pluto, which was also adapted into a movie in 2005 staring Cillian Murphy. Now, I do adore the film because as a teen who was starting to question their gender it spoke to me a lot, but it did make the mistake of casting a cis man as the lead trans woman. But it’s 2021 now, and Mackintosh said new musicals with transgender characters could cast trans people in those roles. So that’s what Breakfast On Pluto did right?
That’s what they did, right?
Tumblr media
Oh...
Yes a new musical with a lead trans woman character has cast a cis man to play this character. All the while turning down all the trans woman who auditioned, as if auditions should have ever allowed anyone other than trans women to apply, and casting a trans woman to play one of the other side cis characters.
Tumblr media
The team behind the musical doubled-down after the backlash and were quick to point out that they have other trans people on the crew so that’s good enough right? Wrong.
Tumblr media
Violence against trans women goes up when cis men are continually cast as trans women. It perpetuates this idea that trans women are actually men when audiences see the actor outside of the character and the actor is a man. Cis men are terrified of being perceived as gay for liking a trans woman and when the trans woman characters in films, tv and theatre are all played by men (most noticeably and recently Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl) it only seeks to push that belief further.
Tumblr media
Cameron Mackintosh doesn’t believe trans people have any business playing characters that were not 100% explicitly written as being trans and we should essentially ‘stick to our own stories’. But then when a new musical comes to the West End with a lead trans character, a cis man is cast.
I implore everyone to watch this short clip from the documentary Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen:
And just because cis women do not abuse and attack trans men to the same scale that cis men do to trans women, it still means seeing a female actor play a trans man contributes to transphobia in the audience as all they see is a woman 'pretending to be a man', a 'man in a skirt', someone who off-screen is not that gender.
Tdlr: Trans people can play cis characters and it doesn't require the role to be re-written, or the whole script to be re-written. Trans characters should be played by trans people.

heeeeey gina, this isn't about larry, but more on harry. i've always wondered, what's harry's natural hair like? when he was a kid, his hair was straight, around the x factor auditions his hair was really curly, and then after that his hair faltered between curly, and then sort of curly but not really (more wavy).
Hi darling. I like an easy, non-controversial question now and then! LOL! Yes, his hair was straight (and blonde) when he was much younger.
Tumblr media
I think once he hit puberty, his hair started to change (it happens often) and it was darker and super curly when he auditioned for X-Factor.
Tumblr media
Lou Teasdale (the 1D hairstylist) didn't have a clue as to how to deal with his hair, so she often just blew it out into a huge quiff, but you can see the sides still are curly.
Tumblr media
As he let it get longer, the curls got loser and bigger. And he probably had it styled in a different way (that 2015 shot looks like his hair may have been blown out and then curled to give it a smoother look)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was still curly during the last tour in 2017/18
Tumblr media
It was cut short for Don't Worry Darling, as it's set in the 1950s (sort of). And then it stayed short for filming My Policeman because it's also set in that time period.

I think he's just enjoying doing different things with his hair. To me it still looks as curly as it's been since he was 19 or 20, just a bit shorter.

Yes, I spent way too long on this post. But thank you for coming to my Ted talk about Harry's hair.
