Double hearted part 3

Without a question to be asked both men were fighting. Things were being thrown and shouting was loudly heard.

Steve yelled for Stella to run as he threw his shield at his counterpart, having him stumbling backwards using the shield himself to thrash him back into a wall.

Stella shouted, “Enough! You’re both equally matched!”

But neither listened, as Steve tried to get Steven down on the ground. Kicks were made and punches were thrown.

Nonetheless Stella ran out of the living room and into the kitchen, searching for a weapon as she remembered she saw a gun earlier. Suddenly a hand covered her mouth, dragging her back out the door into the backyard of the house.

There were muffled screams heard from Stella, as she tried to bite the person’s hand but was flipping over to face them.

She noticed the medium length red hair and black suit, as it clicked that it was Natasha Romanoff with a half smirk.

The redhead was searching her face for injuries, finding one or two on the brunette’s face.

“Hey.” She said simply.

“Nat?!” She whispered yell, “You have to let me back in there.”

“No. I have strict plans to get you out of here safely.”

“But they are going to kill each other in there.”

“Duh! Steve’s got this, let’s go.”

“I can’t leave them in there.”

“Don’t worry I’ll come back to help him in a few.”

Natasha grip was tight, pushing her out the back door as Stella’s fingers twinkled and pushes the women back with a force.

“Stella?! What’s wrong with you?” She yelled.

“You don’t get it! Steve is not a clone!” She replied.

“Yes he is. He has the serum in him just like Cap!”

“He’s from another universe Natasha. He’s here because he wants me to save his..”

“His what? His world?”

She deadpan and rolled her eyes, “No, Natalie Rushman. Me! I’m his wife.”

“No you misinterpreted what he was saying, he wants you as his wife, Stella!” She repiled as if it’s obvious, “He’s a bad guy, you can’t see it because he reminds you of your own husband.”

“That’s my point, Nat. I’m dying on his earth. I don’t care if he’s my husband or not, I don’t even love him. But he loves his Stella more than anything…and he is in denial.”

“Okay hold on, you’re dying on another earth? Well, then that’s their problem.”

“Natasha. I’m friends with The Avengers on that earth, that means we’re friends on that earth. And you guys are all in denial because of it. There is a version of you right now probably sitting in my room, hoping a stay alive a bit longer!”

“Don’t use your logic right now Stella. He could be lying to you. To all of us! If so what will you do? Coax him into surrender?!”

“It’s worth of a try! Natasha you know better than anyone else how it is to fear the thought of losing someone you love. What if it was Bruce? Or your daughter?”

Natasha was dead silent for a moment and sighed, “Fine. But I’m your backup, if he hurts you..”

“I know. I know, he already bruised my arm with his grip from earlier.” She replied with a nod, following her inside.

Both women slid into the room, each taking one Steve. Natasha swiftly took care of Steve, having the man flip onto the side holding her Widow stingers close to his face as she held back his hands with a glare.

Stella could swift care of Steven, Earth 65 Captain America or Hydra Stomper, pinned him onto the floor with a gun to his face as her fingers sparked with magic.

“Nat let me go!” Steve yelled, with a glare not wanting to fight more than he has to today, “He’s an imposter.”

“He’s not technically an imposter, Cap.” Natasha added, muttering, “Your gonna be called Cap for the time being and he will be named Steven.”

Nat and Cap had a silent conversation but their eyes said everything.

Steven groaned, “I’m from another earth, dipshit!”

Natasha gasped, “Oh my this Steve can curse!”

Without second to spear, Cap struck over grabbing Steven and pinned him to the wall and asked, “Name. Earth. Alias. Now!”

“Steven Grant Rogers. Earth 65, this is Earth 616 but many others like to say it’s Earth-199999. I’m Captain America just like you but many also know me as The Hydra Stomper.” He explained, “Coined by Howard Stark himself.”

“Wow.” Natasha added with a smirk, “Howard Stark made you?”

“A versions of me, Natty.”

“Shit. I would love that backstory but not all of us are in the mood to know everything.”

Cap sighed, “What do you want? Why did you make me look like a criminal to SHIELD?”

Steven rolled his eyes, “First off, it had to be done to bypass the time being. You’re facility wasn’t on high alert for your incoming routined rounds today.”

“And why are you here and not back on your earth?”

“Because I came here for a small bargain with your friends. Your wife’s live for mine.”

“Not happening. If I’m correct, then you are not as loyal as you may say you are.”

“Not loyal. More than persistent. Of course you wouldn’t know because, well, you’re you.”

It clicked for Cap shaking his head as he said, “Sorry for your loses but this isn’t the right thing to do. You’re grieving and you know it.”

“And you think that you’re words will fix anything, Captain? I’m trying to save my wife here!” Steve spat with a glare.

“Enough. You think you’re saving her here but you’re really saving yourself from the pain and heartache because you know that it will hurt all over again just like last time.”

“Last time? Wh-are you—how could you possibly know that?”

“Because of mom.”

The room went silent from that one line. His mother. Their mother. Sarah Rogers.

Nat and Stella looked at once another, noticing how Cap’s grip loosened and Steven’s glares soften.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about..” Steven said, looking away for a moment.

“Yes you do. We..you, Dad and Bucky..we spend more than 24 hours in that hospital hoping and begging for the doctors to help her. Dad fought back for the best equipment possible! And they did, trying everything they could. And when we all thought she was doing alright..” Cap explained, his eyes water and continued, “..she was gone like a light.”

“So..I’m supposed to let her die like she did?”

“..sadly, yes. Just stay with her like last time! Not sob and start fighting with dad in the middle of the hallway before you could say anything you wanted you to tell..or in this case, don’t fight with The Avengers. It won’t be worth it.”

“You thought about this haven’t you?”

“Mhmm. This about this, she won’t be alone when she’s gone. Her and mom will be together, watching over everyone.”

The look on Steven’s face said it all. His eyes dropped as he finally started to crack at the words, he didn’t think of that. It took his counterpart to ease his mind and reason with him. Natasha sighed, rubbing her shoulder realizing she could probably call her sister after this knowing pain only makes you stronger.

Stella watched both versions of the man and placed a hand on Nat’s shoulder, as she realized that she had to use her powers on the counterpart. The least she could do was fleshing Steven’s mind of memories that are good, and take the bad with a grain of salt as well.

It also meant she would have to do the same…

…with her brother Theigo Strange.

It was like the universe read her mind as the portal opened and in came her brother dressed in causal clothes. That Earth’s version of her looked very similar just no glasses and a thicker beard to match.

He locked eyes with her, glanced around at the others in the room. He looked tired, his eyes were wet and his body language read of pounding sorrow. He sighed but before he can speak, he was intercepted by the embrace that belonged to Stella.

He huffed, taking in her arms around his neck and squeezed her tightly, as if she was about to punch him in the jaw for his actions. But she didn’t, only muttered a few soft words. He let the tears fall, not caring who was in the room.

“I’m sorry…but it will be okay.” She muttered into his ear.

“I..you know?” He asked, his voice sounded like a whisper.

“Yes. And you are making a mistake, Theo. We both know it.”

“I just want her to be okay…”

“..she is. She will be, but you have to go.”

“But I..”

There was an unspoken sense of urgency and relief that came from the room itself. All looking around to one another, but there was a seriousness laced there.

Natasha spoke up, “So..what now?”

dudette. please ramble to me about your interests and favorite characters. i am sat down on the floor criss-cross style with a notebook and pen in hand ears open and the biggest smile on my face forever

So I've been going on a bit of a madcom spree again, rebloggin aahw art n stuff because I LOVE the aahw clones so much

Idk why I like them so much because (speaking purely from the madcom series perspective) they don't got much goin on besides wanting to kill Hank, and there's not THAT much info about the clones

BUT THAT DIDN'T STOP ME!!!!

I was having massive autism moments about the soldats so I made a comic on my hcs on how soldats are handled in the AAHW. It's old and ngl, kinda emo edgy, but I still love itt.

After that someone asked me for more hcs and I made a short text post about other agency hcs+ clone biology. I still mostly stand by all my biology hcs and also because the 10 year lifespan of a clone thing is the perfect angst material. Clones are literally just attack dogs for the aahw, down to having a dog lifespan

And I mean!! Yeah!! Cloning would require lots of energy and using it all to make clones that can live up to 100 years when they can all die in 5 years or less? WHY would you give them long lifespans? It's not like after they kill Hank they're gonna go out and make a family or anything. Also it means that if a clone dissents and becomes a runaway, they don't have to worry about it for too long because they're gonna die in a few years anyway.

Engineers and Soldats are especially fascinating to me with their Advanced Training Program and mustard blood or whatev. It's very much implied that grunts who go through training programs are also slowly stripped away of their own agency so they can only listen to and carry out the orders of the AAHW without needs of their own.

AND RHEN I only recently found out that engineers and soldats make mechanical noises!

Soldats make noises adjacent to engines meanwhile engineers make radio noises. I'm ECSTATIC

Engineers and Soldats are MADE to be machines carrying out orders. But also since they're more mechanical, and since engineers emit radio noises, could they theoretically telepathically communicate with eachother? That would be pretty useful.

A sillier hc is that engineers and soldats make very quiet mechanical noises, sorta like it's their pulse and you can hear them better if you press your ear on their chest or neck. They can also purr, whirr and trill :3

Despite all my hcs, the clones very much have their own vague personality

As I've said, agents are dumber and braver. They are also more committed (and by relation, probably also pretty stubborn). Engineers are tacticians and posses knowledge about engineering(duh) and possibly other domains too like the medical field and are often the ones ordering groups of grunts and agents. Soldats are fierce, reckless and impatient, made to be killing machines more than anything. They're more agile and well-versed in combat.

Okay headcannon time: Cole never liked fame which is kind of shown after Zanes death. He doesnt like to be recognized. I headcannon that as the ninja got famous and Jay + Nyas relationship became wide spread news, everyone just, FORGOT about Cole. Like no one gave a fuck about him, and thats kinda his own fault too by not going to interviews or putting him out there other than to do his job. He probably just went invisible anytime the paparazzi came close.

phighting autism slingshot matchup chart lawl my opinions

Winning

Rocket: Definitely my #1 Target as sling; with haste and hovering it is very easy to dodge Rockets M1 and M2, with your only concern being its E skill. You can use your own E-Dash to dodge that. By staying in the air you completely don't have to worry about splash damage and by staying at mid range you can dodge Rockets attacks on reaction. The thing about this matchup is that you shouldn't use Sling's M2 as it keeps you in place for too long and Rocket can then get solid hits on you. And due to Rockets health-bar being mostly shielded, Vine and Medkit cannot save them from your wrath.

Favored

Boombox: Boombox is only a nuisance when you're trying to pick someone off from the ground and he has his shield up. That also means on maps with Flat Terrain you're forced to retreat from him until your hover comes back. Boombox Phinisher also completely shuts down anything you could do. With his Shield down, Boom is easy pickings, with Hover M1 and your skills melting Booms smallish health bar, and miniminal counterplay to aerial assaults. M2 also pierces through shield, so with hover down there's still something you can do versus an incoming Boom.

Subspace: Like Rocket, by staying in the mid-range you can dodge Subspace Q and out damage them. If Subspace approaches it puts them in a bad position during team confrontations, and you have the ability to retreat with your superior movement. When Subspace uses their Phinisher Slingshot is in the perfect position to both avoid the succ and pick off Subspace to free your teammates! What I do is hit Subspace with M2 right as their animation ends to prevent them from using E to dash away. The only issue with the Subspace matchup is how well he comboes with healing, but I tend to find that Medkit's aren't focused on their Subspace and are defending their other Teammates.

Even

Shuriken: Prior to the Hover M1 buffs, this matchup leaned difficult as shit, because grounded Slingshot is honestly a bottom tier character. With the buffs to Hover, this matchup becomes extremely fun and leans slightly toward Sling, but with more challenges than the characters listed above. Unlike Subspace, Rocket, and Boom, Shuriken has the mobility to keep up with Sling. It's extremely important to save your M2 for until the Shuri has exhausted their clone and grapple. It's also a smart idea to charge your shots less long to try and intercept a grapple and to also deplete their bounce + speed quicker. Whatever you do do not let Shuriken get in range to apply their dagger anti-heal or you're fuckin toast!!! Also important to note that catching Shuriken's phinisher anim with your M2 can help your melee teammates pick it off.

Sword: One time, I was hovering and spamming M1 only to be killed midair by a sword using Q into E right into my slinghole 💀 With their burst movement skills, Sword can solidly chase down a Slingshot and dodge your M2. On your part, you need to be smart to not waste your movement resources and keep your distance to keep chipping their health into a M2 + Q combo range or a raw Q. In a 1v1, Sling will usually win, but with healer support it's extremely rough, so pick your battles wisely.

Slingshot: Duh, of course this is even, it's the ditto, but I never lose the ditto matchup ahihihihi. I guess if you're in a Sling Phinisher-off, wait for the opposing sling to attack, dodge, and then hit em while they're still stunned in the attack animation.

Biograft: Bio is frail as balls and mostly shielded, Slings favorite type of target, but unlike the Rocket matchup it rushes you down HARD. It leans toward disfavored but with a fast hand, you can prevent an approach from afar with M2 and have Biograft at the health to be killed by Q. You also have the movement to be able to tussle with Bio and prevent them from melting you instantly if they get in. Slingshot Phinisher is also really great at defending teammates being targetted by a Bio using their Phinisher. Shoot at your teammates and the Biograft has to choose between taking big burst damage or backing off and giving your teammate time to reorient themselves.

Disfavored

Hyperlaser: This matchup is very map dependent, as it usually is with Hyperlaser. Sometimes, you're the only one on your team with the mobility to get on Hyper's perch and start doing your usual combos of Hover M1 and Q. Sometimes, you have cover to hide behind to be able weave between and bait out shots. Other times, Hyper shuts you down by picking you off with superior range whilst you're midair. And because of Hyperlaser's surprisingly phat healthbar it's difficult to try and kill if their team defends you from getting in your optimal midrange assault.

Medkit & Vine Staff: Slingshot dislikes healers so bad 😭 After the Q nerf, you can't just burst damage past their self-sustain, and with their healing it makes it that much harder to pick off their low-health teammates which Sling excels at. Additionally, it's not like they're easy to 1v1 either. Medkit ngl has a good matchup into a lot of the ranged characters for no good reason. You REALLY have to be at a distance to avoid being in Headshot and M2 range against a Medkit with good aim, and by doing that you slow down your time to kill due to damage fall-off on M1 and inability to hit all of your Q. With Vinestaff, due to how her M1 works she can track your movement and catch you with lots of damage if you use your skills midair.

Katana:

That healthbar is just too fat for you to make a meaningful dent into. While you're doing mosquito shit Katana is biding its time waiting to pull you in with Q and then fuck you up, and when you run away, they'll probably be supported by a teammate either with heals, shield, or by picking you off while you're slowed. Technically you can 1v1 Katana but it's unrealistic in a team setting, and Katana does well with the Healers. Katana + Vine is an unkillable wall for Sling. At the very least, you can stay out of range and use your dash to dodge an incoming grapple.

Losing

Skateboard: I wish all Skate players a very die /j, but in all seriousness this matchup SUUUUCKS. Onboard, Skate has the mobility to dodge your hover M1's and start chipping away at you and even jump into you while you're midair. Offboard, Sling can use their enhanced mobility & Q to catch you if you're grounded. One line of play that happens to me often is Skate is onboard, forcing me to hover to avoid their massive burst damage and try to slow them down, only for them to deboard once my hover runs out and start rushing me down with their own grounded haste. The only thing you really have versus Skateboard is being able to instantly deboard them with M2 and prevent their Phinisher, however that is unreliable and doesn't make up for how poor this matchup is outside of that.

Here's the thing about Wes Weston- I think that Danny loves that there's someone he can troll the shit out of without worrying about hiding. Like even w Sam and Tucker there's the "yeah we gotta keep it on the DL so no one gets kidnapped or killed etc" but w Wes Danny doesn't have to think bc no one believes Wes!

My #1 post of 2022

The reason I don't generally like making Jack or Janet physically abusive is because I don't want to contribute to the perception that neglect isn't abuse enough on its own.

There's also the additional flavor that is a huge difference between the feeble "but they don't hit me so it's not abuse" and the Tim that I have where it's not just the absence of violence and company. Tim's parents love him when they're around, will teach him and sit with him and play chess and Othello and rummy. Janet will teach him to appreciate the sharper things of finery and Jack will teach him the broad strokes of history and they'll share luxury and art and cuisine from around the world and he loves them.

But that doesn't change that they don't know him. The fun hours that cumulate to weeks or months out of a year doesn't erase the months and months of an empty brownstone, a cold manor, being left in an otherwise empty boys dorm at boarding school over holiday breaks until he learns to fake signatures. It doesn't discount the missed birthdays, achievements, milestones. The weeks and months without any contact at all because of a lack of service and time.

Tim loves his parents, they love him, and he soaks up their attention like a wilted flower soaks up sun and rain. But there's not enough for him.

It's a special kind of abuse, where Tim guilt trips himself more than his parents verbally would. He loves them, they have so much fun with him when they're around! They're never mean to him and they share so much, so why is he upset that they missed his birthday? They called the next week when they could! Why is he mad that he got a baseball glove his first day of high school rather than a send off? They're trying to encourage his social life and broaden his horizons!

He has rose tinted glass for them, and he cuts his fingers holding the edges to look through.

Then Janet dies, and Jack Drake comes home after being in a coma and neither of them can match their image of the other to their imagination.

And still, Tim will think it was different than in his childhood. That he wasn't abused in his childhood even though he grew up incredibly touch starved, even though he obsesses quietly over making sure utility payments aren't shoved off just because he doesn't have to worry about budgeting for them, even though he has a triple-locked physical-and-therefor-unhackable notebook with a constantly updated list of the hobbies of friends he cares about, adds calendar reminders with extra notifications to important dates.

The Hands that Will Save the League

In chapter 321 we're reminded once again of the reoccurring motif of hands reaching out to save someone in need, especially with the double spread close-up of Iida's hands reaching for Deku's hands. I couldn't help but think how this could apply to the league of villains. Hand symbolism has always been associated with Shigaraki (duh), both in the fact that his hands destroy everything they touched, and also his reason for being a villain stems from the fact that not a single hand reached out to save him that day. However, we've also had another character in the league with hands drawn up close and personal reaching out to save the others: spinner.

1. Just an Empty Cosplayer

I'm not the first one to make this observation. @codenamesazanka pointed this out long before me, especially in regards to Spinner's importance to the league, but basically, Spinner's role is that despite being a teenage mutant ninja turtle he's also the everyman of the league. He's not connected to the main conflict of the story by bloodline or legacy, the way Shigaraki, Dabi, and Compress are. He's not someone with an incredibly powerful or deviant quirk like Twice or Toga. He is a victim, but he doesn't have the elaborate villain backstories of Twice, Shigaraki, Dabi, and Toga.

He literally is just some guy with a lizard quirk. He has the weakest quirk in the league and the weakest reason for why he joined the league. Spinner faces societal abuse because of his quirk, but what spurred him to action was seeing Stain appear on TV, and a desire to be a less empty person than he was before. Spinner was pushed, he was rejected by society, but I would say as an inverse to the league who are driven by extraordinary circumstances, Spinner is basically an every man who drives himself to keep up with the rest of the league despite seemingly lacking everything "special" they have.

And I believe this every man quality, and this drive Spinner has is what's going to be the key to piecing the league back together. It's because Spinner sees himself as so far behind the rest of the league, and so much less special than they are, that he's driven to try to understand them.

Not only is Spinner a member who has tried to understand every member of the league in one way or another, Spinner is also someone who similiar to Sihgaraki foils every single character in the league despite just being an everyman.

2. Spinner and Toga

While Spinner and Toga may not have the same level of development to their interactions as Twice and Toga, Spinner reaches out to her once but not twice, and there are a lot of parallels you can draw between the characters.

Both Spinner and Toga joined the league for the same reason, an empty admiration for Stain, without really caring about Stain's ideals. Toga admires Stain because he's covered in blood and fighting for something and she wants to become more like the people she admires, Spinner because he saw himself as pathetic for hiding in his room all day and when he saw Stain taking a stand trying to change the whole world on his own he wanted to become that way too. Which means both of them have a tendency to want to become more like the people they admire, because their own sense of personal identity is so weak.

Himiko and Spinner both define themselves by the way society has rejected them. Spinner has internalized the idea that he's an empty person who can't accomplish anything on his own, every terrible thing other people said about him due to his heteromorph quirk he accepted it. At the same time, Toga was somebody born with a "dangerous quirk" who was told to repress it and then did that living under a fake identity as a normal school girl that would please her parents and the people around her for as long as she could. Both Toga and Spinner are taught by the society around them to be self-loathing and to repress themselves because of their quirks. They're also characters who are both defined by a desire for release.

When Spinner asks if Toga still wants to be in the league because of Stain and she responds, Now I wanna become everyone I love. Spinner comments, "You're so free."

Spinner and Toga both claim they joined the league because of love for another person, they both loved and admired some aspect of Stain, but their real reason for joining, or at least the reason they stay is that deep down both of them desire the freedom to be themselves. Toga wrapping her desires up in language like love for other people, and wanting to become them, is because deep down she believes because of her quirk there's no one who would accept her for herself, as the normal girl she believes she is, no one will let her live as Toga thus she tries to become other people. It's the same for Spinner, who believes he can't be anything other than the Lizard Freak, so he too tries to dress himself up and become a Stain Cosplayer. It's only through the league's acceptance that Toga and Spinner slowly begin to learn that they are good enough on their own, just as themselves, and their priorities begin to shift.

3. Spinner and Twice

Twice and Spinner have several backstory parallels already. They are both characters affected by poverty, Spinner lived in a backwater town plagued by old views of heteromorph quirks, Twice lost his parents and began working to support himself at a young age before becoming homeless. Spinner and Twice were also both labeled in a way that stuck with them, after Twice got a criminal charge in an accident on his permanent record he couldn't find another job after being labeled deviant. Spinner was labeled as a deviant because of his quirk and the idea that he's a lizard freak has always stuck with him the same way that Twice has internalized the idea that "bad people don't get saved."

They also both chose to isolate themselves because of the circumstances they faced. Twice's first response to homelessness was to decide to never trust anybody but himself, and he became a criminal who pulled off heists with only clones of himself as team members until that stopped working for him. Spinner's response was also to shut himself away in his room and become a NEET. They both cut themselves off to the society that labeled them as unacceptable, but in the process they also cut themselves off from other people and became unable to trust others.

While they have major backstory parallels, I believe the greatest parallel between them is going to be that Spinner will inherit that role that Twice had for the league. While Shigaraki is the leader, Twice more than anybody else believed the League to be a family, and encouraged everyone to be friendly with one another.

It's Twice more than anyone else who emphasizes the bond of the league, that they're all strays, that they need to take care of each other and save each other. It's Twice who urges Shigaraki to save Giran because he's one of them. He makes the unspoken bond of the league as a group of miscreants into a spoken one, because Twice wants those things, he's well aware of the fact that he wants trust and acceptance and came to the league to find those things. This is the greatest thing that ties Spinner and Twice's characters together, because they both view themselves as worthless, they define themselves by how they help the other members of the league.

Twice's death so far isn't something that has been really capitalized on by the plot, Hawks has yet to face consequences, we haven't gotten to see much of the league's reaction because they were scattered soon afterwards. However, if Twice's death is going to cause development eventually I believe it will be in the vacuum in the league created now that Twice is gone. There is no longer someone who is urging all of them to be together. Twice's death causes most of the league to become less stable. Toga goes on a killing spree, Dabi attacks Hawks, Compress tries to kill himself in a heroic sacrifice, Shigaraki hasn't gotten the chance to react yet but he's also gotten worse considering he's currently possessed. You could even say that Twice's death has caused other characters to double down on their worst habits.

Dabi's worst habit is that he acts separately from the league and refuses to participate in the group dynamic, believing himself to be a solo avenger. Dabi not trusting or telling the league what he was planning on doing with Hawks, as a consequence of his decision to play solo avenger, caused Twice to trust Hawks which led to his death. Hawks was the one who killed him but Dabi played a part, and when Twice dies Dabi obviously reacts to it, but also his decision is to double down on his bad habit, insisting he's only using the league and he doesn't care about the rest of the group. Toga also doubles down on her bad habit, she runs away from the rest of the league and insists she's only doing this for the freedom to do whatever she pleases, not because you know Twice got killed right in front of her. Compress's arc is less pronounced, but he also does, in fact, try to kill himself in a grand heroic sacrifice for the rest of the league.

When twice dies the league begins to fall apart and everyone acts on their individual worst flaws, ignoring that they were always stronger together as a group. However, there is still one person who wanted the exact same thing Twice did, to be trusted, to belong to a group. This is most likely the role that Spinner is going to grow to, someone who is trusted by everyone in the group.

Notably, when Toga is about to run away it's Spinner who reminds her that the league is a place for them to come back to. Toga who was probably the closest to Twice and spiraling the worst because of his death, and Toga and Twice's friendship was the first time we really saw how much of a "bond" the league had formed with one another, because in the camp arc they barely cooperated, only begrudgingly. It's Spinner who who emphasizes that even though everyone in the league is doing this for individualism "doing what they want" that they are also together as a group. Spinner is set to inherit Twice's role as the heart, because one he tries to understand other people in the league making the effort to reach out, and two Spinner is aware of what he wants just like Twice he wants to be trusted by the rest of the group.

4. Spinner and Dabi

This one is a little bit harder because Dabi's character arc really hasn't started yet. We have just now gotten to the reveal of who he is and what his motivations are, after it being a mystery for so long. However unlike the rest of the league, we haven't really seen how Dabi has reacted and changed by becoming a part of the group. Even if his motivation isn't "I'm only using them" and deep down he really does care, I don't think he's even realized yet that he does care or that he's not just using them. Dabi still believes himself to be alone, and therefore he's still isolated from the rest of the league and flying his revenge quest solo even though he's really not.

In that case, the biggest parallel between Spinner and Dabi is that they both had to be won over by the league. They both joined because of admiration for Stain, probably because Dabi genuinely believed in Stain's ideals of taking down impure heroes because it fit his own agenda so well, whereas Spinner is a self-proclaimed empty cosplayer.

Spinner, however, has already gone through an arc where he was dissatisfied with his reasons for joining the league and didn't believe he belonged with the rest of the group. He didn't have anything to love like Toga. He didn't know yet he wanted friends he could trust like Twice already did. He doesn't have a strong backstory motivation like Compress, or Dabi or even knows what he wants out of society. However, the entirety of MVA is Spinner letting himself be changed because of his interaction with the group.

Spinner failed at life, his quirk is worthless and only good for sticking to walls. He also internalized the idea that he himself was a failure, and locked himself inside believing he couldn't accomplish anything on his own. Spinner says he has nothing he loves, and nothing he wants to do. Not only that he feels unloved and unwanted. However, Spinner finds something to love in Shigaraki, even if he can't find a strong sense of individualism and still believes himself to be worthless he becomes motivated to help others. Spinner, the most normal person in the group with the most worthless quirk, becomes the greatest help to Shigaraki, basically once he gets over himself and his preconceived notions of himself. Because, you don't actually have to be a special person or have a strong quirk to be a hero, you have to reach out a hand.

The same way Spinner was won over by the League, Dabi has yet to be won over. However, if that does happen, it's probably going to look like Spinner's arc. Dabi antagonizes Spinner a lot, but they actually have more in common than they do differences. They both have failure quirks, while Dabi has an overwhelming fire quirk he wasn't allowed to use, Spinner is literally just a gecko. They both also were labeled as disappointments and given up on, Enji gave up on Touya, Spinner never had any potential from the start and locked himself away in his room. However, their paths so far have been opposites, Spinner let Shigaraki reach him and became a part of the group, Dabi at every possible opportunity insists he's doing this all alone. He takes every chance he can to separate himself from others. If Dabi's arc is going to be a mirror to Shoto's arc eventually, then someone has to reach him and convince him he can't do this all on his own, and Dabi can only truly find himself when he's part of the group once more. After all, so far Dabi is the one most resistant to change. Toga's goal has changed, Shigaraki's changed, Spinner has changed, even Compress now admits that while they're just a gang of thieves that he cares more about everyone else's dreams than his own. Dabi is still nursing a ten-year grudge against Endeavor and doing everything he can to take him down on his own because he hasn't let the group in. And he won't improve or change until he does let others in.

5. Spinner and Shigaraki

I love Compress but I'm skipping over him because his arc hasn't been elaborated on yet. If you want a quick summary though, both Spinner and Compress didn't believe the group to be anything more than a gathering of selfish criminals, however, both of them changed because they wanted to see Shigaraki's dream come true. Not only was Shigaraki the one who inspired both of them to change, but also Compress is the one who first sees how close Spinner is to Shigaraki more than anyone else in the group was.

He also sacrifices himself BECAUSE he's come to realize that what he wants more than his own dreams is to see everyone else's dreams come true. I know Compress's backstory is rushed as all hell, but it almost... almost... works because Compress isn't actually doing this because he's Oji Harima's grandson. His motivation changed a long time ago, he just didn't realize it until he was about to lose the league.

There are a few more parallels, they're both dropouts. It's implied that Compress was literally just a retired and failed stage magician before he decided to become a villain. Hopefully we'll become more on that later because the idea of Compress sucking in showbiz so he decided to follow his grandfather's legacy is really awesome. Spinner was a Neet before he saw Stain on television. They also both have more minor quirks, Compress just shrinks people, Spinner sticks to things. They both also are characters who don't seem important at first, but consistently hover around in the background constantly making sure everyone in the group is okay. Compress calls to check up on people, he talks to Dabi a lot, he tries to keep up with everybody in a melee, it's the little things he does that make Compress same for Spinner. They're both cosplaying as legendary villains who are greater than they are, Stein is cosplaying his grandfather, Spinner is cosplaying Stain, but it's unknown whether Compress really cares that much about his grandfather's ideals, I think he cares about the league more. Compress and Spinner are also people who question and try to understand things, Compress lectures the kids that they had their ideals handed down to them for adult, Compress realizes Spinner's importance to Shigaraki before Spinner even did, Compress and Spinner also both try to understand other people's dreams because they're lacking in their own. Spinner doesn't even have a dream, but he's the one who listened to Shigaraki's dream first.

Now it's been directly said by canon that Spinner and Shigaraki's connection is the most developed, and they are the closest to one another. By developed I mean, it changed over time, when it started out they had almost nothing to do with one another. Spinner was just a rank and file league member that Shigaraki used on the hideout raid. They didn't even get a character introduction scene like Shigarki did with Dabi and Toga.

However, Spinner and Shigaraki's characters are extremely closely tied together. Shigaraki's like the main character of the league, his backstories parallel everyone else's, including the main character of the entire story Deku. He's the one who makes the plans, goes through training arcs, he's the one who the league unites around. However, Spinner actually has all of that too. I just spent a very long time showing how Spinner despite not having an overly complicated backstory has strong parallels to everyone in the league. If Shigaraki is the main character, then Spinner is the everyman / the perspective character, hence why he's the narrator of MVA. Shigaraki is a person of extraordinary circumstance, the symbol of society's oppression who everyone in the league deepy relates to because he's suffered the same way that they have and he accepts them. Whereas, Spinner has suffered because of Hero Society too, he's more like a normal guy who makes an effort to understand everyone around him.

However, Deku wasn't saved by his love interest, or even his childhood friend who is apparently his destined rival, he was saved by Iida trying his best to keep up with him.

Spinner and Shigaraki are both the emotional core of the league in different ways. The league all respects Shigaraki, they rally around his ideas, his dreams are what inspire everybody. However, more and more it's looking like Spinner, ordinary, average, Spinner is working to build emotional connections to everyone in a much more normal way. He talks to Toga and tries to understand her love. He even consoles Toga when twice is gone. He challenges Shigaraki directly to his face. Compress who is always sort of watching the league in the background and checking up on them in little ways notices how hard that Spinner is trying to take care of Shigaraki.

Shigaraki accepts people at their worst and gives them a place to belong, but I think by Spinner's efforts to get to know and understand others, we as an audience are shown how humanizing of a presence that Spinner is on everyone else. Spinner, just being a normal guy, brings out the fact that the rest of the league despite their extraordinary circumstances are deep down just normal people to, who want to be loved normally, and live normally. Spinner literally wakes up Shigaraki, because he remembered the one time that he opened up in front of all of them, and cares enough to try to understand Shigaraki's hurt feelings and what he cares about.

If anything from the last arc in the manga, we're shown at great length, how understanding, reaching out, it all takes effort and it's not as flashy as defeating a villain or rescuing someone from a natural disaster.

Spinner is so important to Shigaraki, because while Shigaraki has given everyone in the group a place where they can be individuals, Shigaraki hasn't realized he himself can be an individual yet. He ultimately, shares the same character flaw as Deku. It's because he's decided that he's going to carry out his dreams for the sake of the league and to create a better future for them, that Shigaraki no longer cares what happens to himself, or about his own future. Everyone talks about Dabi's suicidal nature, but this is something that Shigaraki is challenged on over and over again. What are your motivations. What are your reasons. What do you want to accomplish. He always responds with nothing. There's nothing that he wants, there's nothing worth living for, he only wants to destroy and make a better world for the people who are around him. Shigaraki is the most thoroughly dehumanized character, to the point where he just straight up accepts "god of destruction" because that is at least an identity. Shigaraki needs Spinner and his normalizing influence, because Shigaraki can't see himself as a normal person.

Shigaraki shares the same character flaw as Deku, he does everything for the sake of others, with no regard to himself, which leads to extreme bouts of self-harming and fighting alone. Shigaraki faced off against Endeavor, and basically all the heroes alone even though he did call for backup. However, even before that Shigaraki made the decision to get dangerous risky surgery that would be like hell, because he believed deep down he wasn't good enough alone. Shigaraki just does not care about himself and is unable to see himself as an individual, which is exactly why he needs someone to care for him and see him that way.

Shigaraki's greatest challenge to date is that he's been dehumanized so thoroughly, and lost sight of himself to the point where he's lost even his own body autonomy. When Shigaraki is battling for possession of his body as AFO attempts to take total control and make him into a symbol again, denying him his personhood, we're set up directly with Spinner being the one who reminds us that Shigaraki is just a person, who likes video games, and gets along with his friends. It's Spinner who notices right away that AFO is different from Shigaraki and challenges him the same way that he challenged Shigaraki directly in the My VIllain Academia arc. This is all set up most likely, for Spinner being the one to reach out a hand the same way IIDA did, because what Shigaraki needs the most right now, is not a hero who will save him, but rather a normal person who will understand him and remind him that deep down he was just a normal kid too before all of this happened. What Shigaraki is most in need of is a hand that will reach out to him, and Spinner has already done this once putting Nana's hand back on his face when he couldn't wake up, but what he's failed to realize is that it's his own scaly lizard hands that should be doing the reaching out.

Character Analysis: Sukuna—Ryomen Sukuna’s Lore and his Symbolism

Analyzing Sukuna as a character is a big task. I started this draft maybe a month or two ago and I had not wanted to publish it because, in all honesty, this post is me overthinking small details (as I tend to do) and I have to admit that my thoughts on Sukuna could be both wrong and underwhelming--like DUH!

I mean... this is Gege we’re talking about here. The man is stupidly intelligent and unpredictable.

The thing about Sukuna is that there’s a lot we don’t know about him because he gets very little screen time. Thus creating more questions than answers and leaving a lot of room open for interpretation and speculation.

What we do know is that Sukuna is cruel and inhuman. He’s not your average Kurama or [insert-demon-trapped-inside-the-Shonen-Protagonist]. No, Sukuna is evil seeking to become incarnate.

That’s really all there is to it. Seriously...

Before I Get Started...

EDIT 11/19/21: I’ve just read chapter 166 which is officially released on 112121. That being said, given I am posting this on the 19th, I decided not to address the chapter in this analysis because I don’t post leaks.

The majority of the text below was written prior to November 2021:

Could Yuji admitting guilt of Sukuna’s actions be explained as ONLY because he shoulders the burden of responsibility of having swallowed Sukuna’s finger? Yeah... totally.

Could there be more to it than that? Possibly! That’s the only reason I am nerding out about it. Sukuna and Yuji are the same Soul and Body after all.

Be warned that some of what I have written here is heavy speculation. Read with a grain of salt and let me know what you think! I love connecting with others about JJK.

This is not really a theory, but rather my long train of thought trying to understand Sukuna and Yuji.

Starting with the Current Arc in Mind

As of November 2021, with chapter 165’s release, we have not seen Sukuna since Yuta “killed” Yuji.

However, just because we haven’t seen Sukuna, it doesn’t mean he’s not ever-present. Quite the opposite, Sukuna’s consciousness is quietly observing everything from within his innate domain.

Sukuna is waiting for just the right moment to use “enchain”: I wonder if it’s pretty much a given, but I have reasons to believe that the switch word comes back around to Sukuna’s fixation with Megumi. You can read about that here.

But Sukuna also seems to be waiting for the moment when his consciousness is able to take over Yuji’s body permanently. If you think about it, right from the beginning of JJK, Sukuna seems all too certain he’ll take over Yuji’s body eventually.

On the other hand, Yuji seems certain he can keep control of his body and keep Sukuna’s consciousness suppressed.

The Perfect Vessel (or a quick review)

I keep repeating myself, but I simply cannot overstate that as Gege reveals more details about Yuji, it is becoming increasingly obvious that Yuji was always meant to become Sukuna’s vessel.

For one, we know that normal humans get sick when cursed blood/objects are ingested or absorbed into their bloodstream. For example, in chapter 143 Naoya gets sick from Choso’s attack. In chapter 1 Megumi calls it a 1-in-a-million shot that Yuji would survive eating a cursed object as potent and powerful as one of Sukuna’s fingers.

If I had to make a wild guess here, I would go as far as saying that Yuji is a clone of the original Sukuna. I’ve seen many comments about how the original Sukuna looks a lot like Yuji and I’ve always thought it’s a coincidence or an unimportant detail.

But, given what we know about Kenjaku (whom I will occasionally refer to as Kenny moving forward), and Yuji and Sukuna, is it really a coincidence?

For one, as I already mentioned, for some reason, Yuji survived eating Sukuna’s fingers.

Second, Kenjaku is known to be a mad-scientist-type character who would go to any length to reach his goal--like giving birth to Yuji. If you think about it, Kenny basically went through morning sickness and labor pains for his masterplan. Talk about commitment.

Third, so far the majority of Sukuna’s fingers seem to have been in Kenjaku’s possession. My wild guess is that he could have used stem cells from one of the fingers to create a clone.

I KNOW! I am sharing some bat-shit-crazy-town crack theories. But... seriously. As I mentioned earlier, Sukuna’s character creates more questions than answers and these are just some of my thoughts on the matter with all of the clues Gege has provided up until now.

Aside from all of the implications around Kenjaku having literally given birth to Yuji, he also claims he made Yuji eat Sukuna’s finger as though Yuji had no free will in the matter.

Unless Kenjaku himself intended to force-feed the finger to Yuji, if the above is true, to me Kenjaku’s claim implies that Yuji’s consciousness was somehow pre-programmed to eat the finger. It was going to happen one way or another.

Moving forward, I would not be surprised if Gege braingasms us into oblivion with further revelations about Yuji and how his birth and life have been orchestrated as part of Kenjaku’s goals.

We already saw how Sasaki was a pawn in Kenny’s plan.

After re-reading volume 3, I noticed that in chapters 23, 24 and 25, we learn that Kenjaku orchestrated the right conditions for Yuji and Junpei to meet and befriend each other--all for the sake of forcing Yuji to make a binding vow in Sukuna’s favor.

That isn’t the last time the idea of a binding vow is mentioned by Kenny and friends. During Shibuya, Jogo too suggests to Sukuna that he should make a binding vow with Yuji, something that Sukuna declines because he’s got new plans--aka he’s become a Megumi simp.

Funny enough, writing this I noticed that, although they have different reasons for doing so, both Sukuna and Yuji want to protect Megumi at all costs.

All that to say: Since the idea of Sukuna needing to make a binding vow with Yuji is brought up by Kenny et al, I am guessing Kenjaku might have been prepared for the possibility that Sukuna would have a hard time taking over Yuji’s body.

What if Sukuna is Yuji’s Evil Self?

This is where we start moving further down into Crack Theory Land. I am kind of reluctant to theorize about JJK because Gege is crazy unpredictable, but my brain can’t help itself with all of the questions...

So... again, take my words with a grain of salt.

Now, I’ve been very intentional when I use words like “Sukuna’s consciousness” and “Yuji’s personality” for a reason.

What I am getting at is that I am starting to wonder whether Sukuna and Yuji are both becoming one and yet remaining two separate consciousnesses with their own respective agency and free will.

This is just speculation, but Yuji’s clothes mirroring Sukuna’s (black and white outfit) during chapters 153-160 could be a big deal.

Gege revealed in an interview that the symbolism of Yuji’s Jujutsu Kousen uniform and Sukuna’s kimono was very much intentionally meant to oppose the other’s clothing. So the fact that Gege drew Sukuna and Yuji following the same pattern of clothing is very suspicious.

In addition, I personally feel like in the latest chapters Yuji has been looking very Sukunaish. There’s just something uncanny about how Yuji is drawn in certain panels that reminds me more of Sukuna than of Yuji.

The Holy Trinity and JJK

This thought of Yuji and Sukuna becoming one opens the Soul = Body can of worms that is ever-present in JJK. Gege has not made a concrete statement about it, but I have to wonder whether we can include the Mind into the equation.

Thus, the Mind = the Soul = the Body.

What Sukuna does for this argument, however, is that he throws a wrench on the idea that the Mind = the Soul = the Body.

The way I see it, since Sukuna’s cursed energy and memories are stored in the fingers, the more of them Yuji eats, the more he digests and absorbs that energy into his body. Thus, Yuji is also inevitably transforming his soul as a result.

This is something Gojo himself assumed would happen.

What I am having a hard time wrapping my head around is the idea that Yuji’s mind consciousness and Sukuna’s mind consciousness are both merging and at the same time remaining as two separate personalities (minds) inhabiting the same body.

Does this mean the Mind ≠ the Body = the Soul?

In other words, Yuji’s mind remains the endearing and beautiful person that he is, while Sukuna’s mind is everything that Yuji isn’t--cold, calculating, inhuman.

If the Mind ≠ the Body = the Soul, then Yuji is not Sukuna.

If the Mind = the Body = the Soul, however, then Yuji and Sukuna are the same.

So... which is it?

I think the only way for Mind = Body = Soul to continue to hold true is by assuming cursed energy considers Yuji and Sukuna twins.

The Myth That Inspired Sukuna: Ryomen Sukuna

There are a couple of fan theories and parallels to Sukuna: from mythology, to an urban legend and even Buddhism. For the purpose of this nerd out, I will be basing my analysis on the myth of Ryomen Sukuna, the two-headed specter/deity and benefactor of Hida Province.

You can read about it on your own over here and over here. These are, unfortunately, the only sources I was able to find and I have no way of confirming their veracity. We will just have to take what’s written in these two sources with a grain of salt until more is revealed.

To keep things clear, moving forward I will be referring to the mythological figure that inspired JJK’s Sukuna as Ryomen Sukuna. As for JJK’s Sukuna, I will refer to him simply as Sukuna.

Ryomen Sukuna

According to the Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan), Ryomen Sukuna is described as a two-headed specter that was known for becoming an enemy to the emperor for disobeying the Imperial Court and making people suffer ( Japanese-English Bilingual Corpus of Wikipedia's Kyoto Articles). He was eventually defeated by a military commander sent by the Imperial Court.

Other bits about Ryomen Sukuna’s myth that might be relevant to Jujutsu Kaisen and the implications for understanding Sukuna:

Despite being described as a villainous figure by the Nihonshoki, Ryomen Sukuna was worshipped and considered a hero and benefactor by the people of the Hida and Mino Provinces.

Ryomen Sukuna is thought to have been the one who brought Buddhism into Hida Province

There is a theory that holds that Ryomen Sukuna is the secret deity of Minashi Shrine which worships Kuraiyama Mountain as a sacred place where Gods live

Hida Province itself was considered a Takamanohara, or a place of high heaven where Gods live, by the Takeuchi-monjo (an ancient Japanese text)

There are, of course, references to Ryomen Sukuna symbolizing twins because of his two faces. One of the kanji in Ryomen means two face or twin

Ryomen Sukuna is described as having two pairs of arms, tremendous power and being able to move quickly

The last two points are the most relevant for what we know about Sukuna as of chapter 165.

Yuji and Sukuna--psychically conjoined twins

In a nutshell, you could say that Yuji and Sukuna are like conjoined twins. They are both one and the same, and at the same time, they are each their own individual conscious self (mind) with their own agency and memories that are irrespective of the other.

If you think about it, Gege already introduced the idea that cursed technique considers twins to be the same person in the Perfect Preparation arc.

Again, even the meaning of the name Ryomen Sukuna speaks to Yuji and Sukuna’s nature as psychic twins. According to this article, the kanji in Ryomen Sukuna literally translate to “twin/two-face + mask + something that drives evil away.”

In other words, the reason I say Yuji and Sukuna are the same is because their personalities (minds) are the two different faces (see what I did there?) of the same coin (soul and body).

To me, Yuji owning to Sukuna’s actions in chapter 165 is not just about his guilt that Sukuna took over the body or feeling weak because he couldn’t keep his evil self suppressed, but also the fact that they share the same soul. There is some degree of separation happening, and yet at the same time, they are still the same person with two different minds/personalities.

Yuji is “Good Sukuna” and Sukuna is “Evil Yuji”.

Mind = Body = Soul.

In this particular case, Yuji’s Soul happens to have two minds that oppose and antagonize each other--they are psychically conjoined twins.

Is Yuji incomplete?

The most telling clue of the idea that Yuji and Sukuna are the two different faces of the same coin is the fact that they couldn’t be more different from the other.

Yuji is a care bear while Sukuna is a vicious demon.

Yuji wants to save others while Sukuna does not value human life.

Yuji is kind-hearted while Sukuna is cold and vicious.

When it comes to Yuji and Sukuna, psychologically-speaking, they exist on polar opposites of the same spectrum.

What is interesting to me is that, as I mentioned earlier, from my perspective, Yuji is physically starting to resemble Sukuna in the latest chapters--more specifically when they first entered Tokyo Colony No. 1.

Again, this is a Yuji that has already digested 15 fingers worth of Sukuna’s cursed energy. This made me wonder about what would happen once Yuji eats all 20 fingers.

Side note: I don’t know how, but I’m going to get my precious little hands on a hard copy of Jump Giga’s December issue just for this poster.

When I first saw the image above, I was mostly blown away by the amount of sheer attention to detail Gege put into this drawing.

But then, I realized this isn’t just any drawing... this drawing is a Mandala.

A Mandala is a symbol of wholeness, a “symbolic picture of the universe”. One of the things that Buddhist Mandalas are recognized for is having a deity at the center of the Mandala just like in the drawing above.

I can’t say for sure whether Gege meant to draw a mandala. Perhaps he just thought the drawing would look cool if he created a symmetrical piece. Whether the choice was conscious or not, however, a mandala is still a mandala.

So, if I had to make yet another wild guess, this drawing symbolizes how Yuji can only achieve “wholeness” once he’s eaten all 20 fingers.

I don’t know how to explain but... the fact that Yuji is such an endearing person with no negative/dark traits points to an unbalanced psyche.

We all have good and evil within us. The difference is that Yuji’s evil is symbolized in Sukuna the way Sukuna’s goodness is symbolized in Yuji.

"How about I kill every human in Shibuya? All but one, that is.”

There are several theories about what Sukuna wants from Megumi.

Whether you believe Sukuna wants for Megumi to create a new body for him, or whether you believe Sukuna wants to have Megumi for dinner, we won’t know until Gege reveals the outcome.

I personally used to think that Sukuna wanting Megumi to create a new body for him was not likely. Given my understanding of the 10 Shadows cursed technique, I couldn’t wrap my head around why Sukuna would want to become a Shikigami that is subject to being summoned by the sorcerer--think of how Mahoraga only gets summoned as last resort because no one has been able to tame it.

The thing that confused me is that Sukuna has made a rather interesting binding vow with Yuji that does not involve holding any of his friends hostage (as Kenny and all the other curses assumed would need to happen)--as a result, I kind of had to reconsider.

ESPECIALLY because we still don’t know what the full extent of the 10 Shadows cursed technique is. What we do know is that 10 Shadows is inspired by the 10 Treasures of Shintoism and that two of the remaining treasures stand for “life and resurrection”.

And if you haven’t read about it yet, there is the possibility that the Japanese word for “enchain” itself could literally translate to “blessing + resurrection/life” when you swap the kanji around a bit. Remember the kanji in Megumi’s name means blessing.

My best wild guess is that Megumi’s shadow can work as a medium to bring something that is not of this world into this world--we’ve already seen Megumi move both himself and objects in and out of shadows.

Whether it’s a new body or an army of curses, we have yet to see what it is Sukuna sees in Megumi that can help him bring about the world he wants to create.

The shadow itself is an interesting psychological concept that extends beyond conscious awareness and “has access” to the collective unconscious. If Gege is using Megumi’s shadow in a similar manner as Carl Jung’s definition of it, then I have to wonder just what else Megumi can do through his shadow.

Put another way... What if this shadow realm Megumi is moving through is the same realm that Kenny talks about in chapter 160?

Whatever it is, Yuji has already told us that Megumi will suffer.

Intro to Sukunology 101

As you can see, it’s a lot of heavy speculation based on clues provided from throughout the entire story. Meaning... I could be wrong in my interpretation!

These are my thoughts on Sukuna and I am by no means the expert. I am just someone who has a propensity to over-think small details, see the big picture, and put together holistic arguments that take seemingly unrelated concepts into account.

Basically I am a nerd and I like to document it.

BONUS madness: Ryomen Sukuna and the Roman God Janus

*Feel free to skip this section. This section is straight up speculation using comparative mythology. I moved it to the end precisely because it is very speculative but decided to include it because “why not?”.

One of the things that really caught my attention from the article on Ryomen Sukuna by the Japanese-English Bilingual Corpus of Wikipedia’s Kyoto Articles, is that the authors of the article compare Ryomen Sukuna to the Roman God Janus.

After going down a rabbit hole looking a bit into Janus, I couldn’t help but notice the two-faced deity/twin motif playing out for both Janus and Ryomen Sukuna.

This similarity made me wonder if, like Janus, given what is written above about Hida Province, Ryomen Sukuna is also a liminal deity that rules over liminal spaces such as the cursed realm between dreams and reality that JJK introduces in chapter 160.

Again, remember Hida Province was considered to be a place of high heaven where Gods live. Whatever the case, if we take Janus’ archetype into consideration, Janus is a sort of God of doors, transitions, and liminal spaces.

If Gege ends up unconsciously using some of the same archetypal material, we could find that Sukuna is a gatekeeper to this in-between space Kenny speaks of. Come to think of it, maybe this is why Sukuna is a prodigy and why he has such a deep understanding of cursed energy.

i have 2 questions

1 do you think lex and kal being kons parents is a bad retcon? in sense that you would be happier if it hadnt happened.

2 there is some fanfics that i saw where clark had been acting as a father figure to kon, like jon, kon living with lois and him but as long as i know in canon while they got along good there was not a relationship like this? what do you think of this? do you think it would be good if it was canon? it might be canon and i might not know, while i love kon i didnt read all of his comics so i am sorry if its wrong, i was just curious.

Oooh okay, I've talked about these topics in terms of discussing the fanon versus the canon/explaining how things went in canon, but I don't know if I've really done more just my opinions on them. So I can do that!

Putting this under a readmore because it ended up very long. I'm wordy 🤷‍♂️

I don't think I'd call the Lex + Clark retcon itself bad, necessarily. I have... mixed feelings on it? Due to the fact that I got into comics well after the retcon had happened, it's something that I've just like... always had in mind when approaching Conner, even once I learned it wasn't originally the case. So I have kinda a hard time in my brain separating the retcon from him, especially because so much plot-related stuff for him that came along in the 2000s is directly related to it. If it hadn't happened, the entire trajectory of his character would have changed, and we'd probably be looking at a pretty different Kon-El in his later appearances. So that makes me hesitant to say i'd like... prefer it hadn't happened. I think Kon has a fascinating story throughout his appearances as is, and while exploring what could have been without that retcon is interesting, I don't think I'd want to just press 'undo' on the last 19 years (okay, more like 13ish bc from 2012-2018 he wasn't present, but still).

Now in terms of execution of the retcon... one bit of credit I'll give Johns is that the way the retcon is explained fits reasonably into the original story. It's less of a "Oh shhh duh it always happened this way" messy change and at least has a plausible "Okay so things actually happened this other way- but this is why Kon believed otherwise about himself" reasoning.

However I think that Johns should have... paid more attention to some things from Kon's solo/at least addressed them. It feels like he put thought into making it work with Reign of the Supermen, but did not think about the repercussions that would echo out through things in Superboy Vol. 4. Like how the retcon makes Amanda Spence, a reoccurring villain throughout Kon's comic (she was part of Match's creation, killed Tana during Sins of Youth, and then came back during his Our Worlds at War tie-ins), have had a completely moot motive (she hated Kon because as Paul Westfield's clone he was the last living piece of her father). That's a choice that can be made, but the fact that it never even remotely gets acknowledged always felt so weird to me.

But yeah, so like I don't... I don't think I'd call it bad, but I do think it wasn't as fully thought-out a choice as it maybe should have been, and that some of the execution of it was lacking.

Right, so the way that Clark & Kon's relationship in canon has been is familial, but not in a father/son way. This is directly related to how when Kon was initially created, there was no actual known biological relation between him and Clark- so Clark really wasn't ever responsible for Kon. He was put under the supervision of Dubbilex for the first portion of his life, and while he and Clark started to see each other as family it was more in a brothers/cousins way. Dubbilex is the person Kon grew to see as a father figure (canonically, he calls him the closest thing he's got to a dad in Superboy #34) but in general Kon still didn't consider himself to really have parents. Kon then went to live at Cadmus later, and after the project had to disappear, he tried to live on his own.

When that went horribly... Clark brought Kon to Ma and Pa to live with them. Imo this is the divergence point where the comics could have decided to create a more father/son relationship between the two of them- if instead they'd had Kon move in with Clark. But by having Kon move in with Ma and Pa, they were establishing Kon + Clark's relationship to stay more like brothers.

And... I really don't want to change that. A while before this point, things had already kinda hammered home the point that Kon didn't have the same sort of family guidance that Clark did when he was young and coming to terms with his powers and things, (and while Dubbilex was great he wasn't really that well-equipped to fill that role) and I think that him going to live with Ma and Pa was absolutely the right choice. I'm thinking a lot about Superman #155 especially, which is from a few years before Kon moves in with them but he was at the Kents' place for dinner. Clark's not all that pleased about it (because this is before Clark had told Kon his secret identity, Kon had met the Kents by chance in a different situation, and Clark at this time is wanting to keep his life as Clark and his life as Superman more separate) but he has this talk with Pa:

I honestly think this conversation could be a big reason why years later when Kon needs a place to go, Clark brings him to them. He knows that there's a level of guidance and family that they would be able to give him that he'd really benefit from! I feel trying to establish a more strictly father/son relationship between Clark and Kon would mess with the dynamic that formed with Ma and Pa as Kon's parental figures... which I absolutely wouldn't want to see happen.

But at the same time I super don't mind Kon being included in some things and spending time with the Clark/Lois/Jon family unit- because I think the answer here is to just acknowledge that Kon doesn't really fit as strictly/easily into traditional roles in a family, and that's okay! Ma and Pa are his parents, but since Clark is way older than him- sure him and Lois could sometimes kinda feel like parents too rather than 'older brother and sister-in-law' and like... Jon can be technically his nephew but feel more like a brother because they're close in age, these things don't need to be clearly defined.

So like... I dislike when fan content will replace Ma and Pa's roles in Kon's life with Clark and Lois, but I'm okay with things that treat all of them as family where the specific labels of how they're related just aren't as important, if that makes sense? And in terms of how this relates to canon, this kind of vagueness is sorta the current approach. The basis is a "Ma and Pa are Kon's parents and Clark considers Kon his brother" mindset, but Kara then plays with it by calling Kon her 'cousin-brother-nephew'

They're all family and that's what matters more than what the specific labels for how they're related are. But Kon lives with Ma and Pa right now and I definitely think it should stay that way. (Although it does feel like Tom Taylor over in Son of Kal-El has kinda forgotten that... or I guess Kon was just out of the house when Lois, Clark, Jon and Jay had come over for dinner? who knows)

Vader Tries to Help

People encouraged me to share the dead dove concept! Yay! It’s a horrible concept with an undertone of comedic absurdity in the sense that you keep waiting to see what awful, incredibly stupid thing Vader is going to do next. Like it’s horrifying but it’s also very dumb.

By moving forward into the fic, you acknowledge that this is intended to be dark and liable to be upsetting, and that you are taking responsibility for your own engagement with the material.

This AU was helped along on discord by several parties but tbh I’m not sure how many of them actually want to be named.

Warnings: Mutual Extremely Dubious Consent (forced by a third party), drugging, irrational behavior (Vader), nonconsensual body modification, forced pregnancy, imprisonment, threatened torture of a child (not followed through on)

Vader captures Obi-Wan a few years into the Empire. Because Vader is Anakin, but even worse on the emotional bullshit, he decides that he needs to keep Obi-Wan safe but harmless. Vader also got Luke in the whole 'capturing Kenobi' situation, so part of what Vader's thinking about all this is that Obi-Wan tried to protect The Baby and so Vader kind of owes him, obviously.

Palpatine lets him keep Obi-Wan "safe," because threatening Obi-Wan is a convenient way to make Vader shut up and do what he's told. Palpatine can kind of tell that threatening the toddler would make Vader lose his shit and attempt to kill good ol' Palps, so threatening the middle-aged depressed alcoholic being kept in Vader's guest room with Force-nullifying cuffs is pretty good. It's an additional layer of emotional torture on top of the electrocution of Vader himself!

Vader has Obi-Wan taking care of Luke, mostly, because Vader has Obligations and A Job, and Obi-Wan wouldn't hurt Luke, duh. He might try to escape with the kid, but he won't be successful, and Obi-Wan will definitely put Luke's safety first, so that probably won't happen.

This is all fairly normal for a variety of AUs, granted, and not very dark.

But see, Obi-Wan behaves. He's aware of how tenuous the situation is for him and his charge, so he plays nice. And Vader decides to reward that.

By giving him Cody.

There's an implied thought process there that Obi-Wan was fond of Cody, and Cody was fond back, and now that the Jedi aren't around, they can follow through instead of worrying about some silly Code. Vader's nullified the orders to kill all the Jedi, of course, possibly dosed their food with an aphrodisiac so they don't try to talk themselves out of What They Obviously Want.

Now, we’re going to make it a little darker, because why not make things worse by having Vader try to make things better?

Vader somehow twisted himself around to encouraging them to have a baby. This is accomplished through a combination of Sith Magic and nonconsensual surgery, and lots of questionable drugs.

Obi-Wan just wakes up in a hospital bed with a womb one morning, and is informed of the surgery then and there, after it’s already happened. The droid telling him about it is just like "in the Lord Vader's infinite kindness--" and Obi-Wan just.

Anakin.

What the fuck.

What in the actual fuck made you think this was a good idea.

(The Sith Chemicals, probably.)

I feel like Palpatine would maybe even order the pregnancy induction just to torture them by proxy because that's like eight levels of Fuck No and he barely has to do anything except tell Vader that he'd like to see what kind of children a Jedi Master like Obi-Wan has.

Luke needs friends, doesn't he?

Obi-Wan is having some very complicated emotions about all of this because Vader is, in his own absolutely insane way, trying to help.

Anakin wanted babies and Padme wanted babies so clearly, if Obi-Wan and Cody are in love, then they also want babies!

Cody and Obi-Wan very well might not be in love. Anakin definitely could have misinterpreted. It’s probably more angsty if they're just friends who ended up in this bullshit together.

(He's taking baby fever to new and somewhat horrifying heights, because... he would adore Obi's kids.)

(His family button is suprisingly large for a mass murderer.)

Vader Kindly Informs Bail That Obi-Wan Is Alive And Unharmed. Bail was a friend of Obi-Wan's, telling him this is only helpful and will keep Alderaan from getting more rebellious out of personal insult. Obviously.

Vader is almost offended when Bail implies he might hurt Obi-Wan. He kept his son safe, he owes him. Speaking of, don’t you have a child? How old is she, again? It would be Good for her to make friends, wouldn’t it? :)

Palpatine is just like... sitting back and eating evil popcorn as Vader runs around, ruining people's lives by trying to be less of The Worst than before.

Palps barely has to do anything, Anakin's fucking it up on his own!

Could have been just a sly "Kenobi is so attached to young Luke, but now that you've been reunited with your son, perhaps he'd be happier with a child of his own?" Come at it from both "make Obi-Wan happy" and "protect your relationship with Luke" angles.

Vader: I can't have babies anymore due to what you did to me on Mustafar. Obi-Wan: So you're punishing me by forcing me to have them instead? Vader: No! Children are a gift that you have been cruelly denied by the Order that held us in its chains! Obi-Wan: ...oh, right, you're insane. Forgot about that. Somehow.

Big dramatic speech about how the Jedi Order spent so long making them take lives, he’s giving Obi-Wan a chance to create it! To put something good and bright into the world!

Poor Cody is like. "General, I am very fond of you but I'm having a million panic attacks at the same time because of the mind control, and also Vader is under the impression that we're in love and I need to be your stud? I wasn't aware you could have children--" "I can't. Or at least, I couldn't, but Anakin is... creative." "...what."

I don't want to actually objectify Cody in the narrative past the point that Obi-Wan himself is, because nnnnngh racism and clone stuff, so I'm going to say Cody was in love with Obi-Wan, and would have been okay with at least discussing the whole baby schtick if not for the absolutely horrible circumstances.

Like if the war had ended normally, and Obi-Wan had expressed a desire to retire, unlikely as that was, then Cody may have suggested a dinner, and they could have gotten married and then eventually adoption...

(Cody had a lot of fantasies he didn’t let himself think about too hard.)

But no. It's this... weird Vader-inspired bullshit.

I'm just so invested in Vader trying to help but making things legitimately a million times worse.

He wants to help :) Oh god, he wants to help.

Why aren't people more appreciative of how hard I'm helping them? - the Anakin Skywalker story

With less time to stew and also getting handed what he wants, Vader could absolutely flip on a dime the second he saw Luke being protected, and go from “I hate you” to remembering that Obi-Wan said he loved him, and now he must keep Obi-Wan safe out of debt and he just... he’s playing house.

Vader throws Obi-Wan a baby shower after the pregnancy is confirmed. Bail is invited, because Obi-Wan doesn't have a lot of friends still alive. Vader decides Bail is top of the Obi-Wan’s Friends List.

This is the first time they've seen each other in two years. Obi-Wan is heavily pregnant despite Bail knowing full well he didn't have the plumbing for that before the Empire rose. Cody is there and emotionally exhausted but more lucid than most troopers. Luke is running up to Leia because New Friend!!!

....there may be MORE of the 212th and 501st at the baby shower, with “kill all Jedi” orders revoked, of course. But it will keep the children safe!! And Cody and Obi-Wan can see their surviving friends!!

Cody: I'd be much happier to see my surviving troopers if they didn't all still have chips in their heads. Obi-Wan: I feel much the same. Vader: [404 error]

Bail and his family might be there at blaster point, but aren't you happy to see them, Obi-Wan??

Obi-Wan's endless trauma is honestly somewhat curtailed by the incessant need to facepalm at Vader’s bullshit

Obi-Wan and Cody both outwardly have a very "there are much worse people I could be stuck with in this situation but obviously I wish I'd had a choice, no hard feelings" attitude at each other.

Internally, Cody is suffering because this is NOT how he wanted his crush to be realized, and Obi-Wan is just suffering, period.

Cody: How did he even choose which of us ends up pregnant? Obi-Wan: He thinks I need to be protected, and that he needs to keep me safe. Cody: ...he does realize that you're better at-- Obi-Wan: Cody, he's completely lost it. No! He doesn't realize!

I feel like over the course of the year or two this plot unravels towards Palpatine getting murder-deposed and Anakin getting locked down, part of the driving force to Vader not being Vader anymore is that Luke actually really loves Uncle Obi and always starts fussing and going "Ben's sad" whenever Vader dismisses what Obi-Wan wants in favor of what Vader thinks Obi-Wan wants, and Vader can't deny his child anything.

Luke cries because Palpatine Feels Wrong like, once or twice, and Anakin goes “oh, okay, assassination time.”

Hmmm... Complicated ask, anon.😂

[My personal life would be splashed here and there. Please bear with me]

Before 5 months, if you asked me about Naruto, my response would be ‘What the fuck is that?’. I absolutely had no idea such a treasure existed. For me, it started out like a blockbuster movie for the sheer variety of fights and the resulting emotions it brought within me.

However, there was a point I stopped and thought, ‘Wait a fucking second. This resembles my family dynamics. This person is speaking the exact same lines I spoke to my parents few years ago. This person’s situation resembles mine. Did this creator a time traveler?’. Naruto is the only piece of media that gave me such feel. Am not even exaggerating, believe me.

I really liked so many characters very much but am going to try my best to list just 10.

The only characters I hate in this series are Danzo, Sakura and Hinata in no particular order. Meaning, I absolutely cannot see any positives in them. They are crassy, cringey and completely detestable.

FAVOURITE NARUTO CHARACTERS

10. Killer Bee

HaHaHa :-) Just seeing this character makes me smile and light-hearted.

It’s a pity that he is the only character who don’t belong to Konoha in my Top 10 rankings who was developed well apart from Gaara.

I loved him from Frame 1 onwards and I sincerely wished Team Taka should be packed up with their ass beaten up mercilessly. And that’s what happened.

Despite being a Jinchurikki, he never bothered to mind his surroundings and filled his heart with love from his over protective Brother alone was nice to watch.

He makes a great Tag Partner with Naruto next to Sasuke. No doubt.

The way Killer Bee treated Team Taka like some annoying flies and his cool and don’t care attitude was top notch. It’s not just with Sasuke, Bee treated Naruto with the same IDGAF attitude at first.

Best Moments:

Lariat punch to Sasuke (TBH, Sasuke deserved it. LOL)

Blasted off every member of Team Taka like a doll

His entire conversation and fight sequence with Kisame (Their banters and exchanges are way too hilarious)

His dynamics with his Elder Brother (God!!!! Whenever Raikage gives him an Iron Claw.... What a hilarious duo!!!!)

9. Hatake Kakashi

Kakashi was my most favourite character when I started the series for simply being ultra-cool with the way he conducted the Bell-Test and taught a valuable lesson for those bratty kids in Team 7 called ‘Team Work’.

Best Moments:

Kakashi vs Obito Hand-to-Hand Combat (the best in the series)

Kakashi in the Gaara retrieval arc (His fight with Itachi & Deidara gave a good start to the shippuden series. His Mangekyou reveal was surprising).

Kakashi & Guy teaming up with Naruto to reveal Obito in a twisty and tragic way. (Kakashi couldn’t handle the truth at all and neither did I)

Kakashi vs Zabuza (That’s when I realized that the series was getting real serious)

8. Jiraiya

Jiraiya was my next favourite to Kakashi during my Part 1 days. His open perversion and his entire dynamics with Naruto was one of the best things during the Chunin Exams arc. Taught Naruto about Chakra Control and about the way of a shinobi by just enduring. Naruto follows this even today.

Best Moments:

Kuchiyose No Jutsu training (Man, I never expected him to push Naruto off the cliff)

Rasengan Training (One of the best arcs in part 1 and it was soo satisfying to see Naruto punching his first Rasengan on Kabuto, He also acted like a quasi parent to Naruto... heartwarming)

Jiraiya Vs Six paths of Pain ( 6 vs 1 was always doomed but still he had the guts of a shinobi and plunged ahead)

7. Uchiha Madara

Geez. What is there to not like him??

Everything he did was absolutely wrong ever since he broke up with Hashirama in a romantic way much similar to how couples break up in my country.

I am an Uchiha. You are a Senju. I wish it had been different.

This roughly translates to how 75% of lovers break up and marry someone else from their own clan in my state. (Duh!!!)

I am from XXX clan, you are from XXX clan. So we can’t love each other and my parents won’t accept this relationship. So let’s break up.

Alright, my first shipping couple in this series is HashiMada for this exact reason. (I started shipping SNS only after episode 478).

Just like Hashirama, Madara had an extensive build up right from episode 1 where Kurama compares Sasuke with Madara. And flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi spiked my curiosity and I wanted to see his face so badly ever since.

But the moment he landed gracefully like a diva in episode 321.... Woaahhhh!!!! He literally danced in the battlefield and ate up 100′s of guys with just a fucking Sharingan.

Best Moments:

Going Shirtless before 1000′s of people with Hashirama’s face, no less (Well, I literally went heart-eyed for 5 minutes. Sorry Sasuke, your ancester was way much sexier than you in the Orochimaru hideout and beats you by a million points).

Screaming Hashirama’s name like a cockatoo for 300 times even till the very end (Sorry Naruto, your obsession towards Sasuke for about 6 arcs is pale in comparison to Madara’s obsession which was established in just 6 or 7 episodes.)

I have 25 clones now. Do you want me to put Susanoo or not? You can’t answer. The answer is yes. (Man, his I don’t give a fuck attitude is just an alien level thing)

Openly admitting Only Hashirama Can Beat Me (Say what you will about Sasuke, Madara has no qualms about accepting his inferiority in terms of power. An absolute Straight Forward diva-queen)

Awakening Sharingan for breaking up with his ‘friend’ rather than for his 3 dead brothers. (Geez, Poor Soul. He is the forefather of a Romantic Uchiha. That romantic blood still flows in Sasuke)

6. Senju Hashirama

Man, I would have placed him somewhere in top 5 if only he was introduced early or had more scenes. I started watching Naruto only because of this very name. There is a local podcaster in my state who goes under the alias of Senju Hashirama and in his podcasts, he hinted about this character and how he was inspired by his ideals. I just googled and saw that this character belonged to Naruto series and I considered watching it. Here I am, making analysis on that very series.

There was this excellent build up for him right when we got introduced to Captain Yamato. He was constantly referred in flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi especially.

But the moment he was reanimated again..... Geez..... It was an hilarious ride all throughout. Out of all the flashbacks we got from this series, Founders Era flashback was my absolute favourite.

From where I come from, we are still under the stupid influence of Clan infrastructure and are not growing up in many aspects like people in western countries do. For me, I hope, one day, someone like Senju Hashirama appears in our state and change our lives for better by uniting all clans as one and treats everyone equally without the shitty favouritism for their own children, friends, parents, siblings.

That’s why this dialogue struck a thunder in my heart

“Be they a friend.... Be they a sibling.... Be it even my own child. I will not forgive anyone who threatens the village.”

Because the clan leaders in our place are absolutely selfish, trash bastards who serves their own needs with no regards for other people from other clans. For a person like me, Hashirama is not just a fictional hero, he is someone who many aspires to become. No wonder that podcaster chose this name as his alias.

He rightfully deserved the title ‘God of Shinobi’. And no one can surpass him, not even Naruto.

Best Moments:

Wood Style vs Eternal Mangekyou sharingan + Kurama powered Madara (He just beats Madara’s ass by a wide margin. This shows he was a whole fucking different level than Naruto + Sasuke combined. In terms of strength, nobody surpassed him YET. Sorry Naruto and Sasuke, you guys are no match even now with your Rinnegan and Kurama lost forever).

His entire banters with Madara (ROFLLLL. Without him, it would have been just another lifeless arc.)

5. Senju Tobirama

Hmmm, let me tell you something about him.

First off, he is not a racist or fascist as many hardcore Sasuke fanatics claims. He is one of the best hokages according to me. He is abso-fucking-lutely practical, rational, logical and holds no grudge. And Sasuke resembles Tobirama with all these characteristics as compared to soft and naive Naruto. If only he had more screen time, he would be easily in my top 3.

Just because he didn’t lick the boots of Uchiha (many people’s favorite clan or may I say the only clan that was given any shit about in this series), it doesn’t make him a racist or fascist.

No, he never persecuted the Uchihas. Danzo, the crass bastard, driven off the Uchihas only after the Kyuubi incident. It was explicitly mentioned in the databook and was clearly explained in the series.

He literally gave the highest position in the village for the entire clan. That is, a military power inside a military village. ‘Shinobi who can cause crimes can only be stopped by shinobi who are even better’. In my state, if a powerful clan decided to persecute another clan, they simply start by cutting off basic amenities like Water and Electricity. Compared to what I’ve seen, Tobirama did nothing but given the Uchihas, the highest position in their village.

Orochimaru only said giving such a power made them conceited (arrogant). Tobirama had a trusted subordinate called Kagami, an Uchiha in his team. He suggested Kabuto to help Sasuke and even teleported him on his request. He even spited Madara for killing Sasuke, an Uchiha. He openly claimed Uchiha clan exceeds Senju in terms of Love. He openly appreciated Itachi and Kagami as someone who sees beyond their clan. In what world, would a racist or fascist do all this for a clan he hates???

Yes, he was cautious of Sasuke at first because he saw him with Orochimaru and even went full-on battle mode because of Sasuke’s carefree threat to destroy the village. But once he decided to go to the battlefield to fight Madara, he simply forgot everything that happened before and started to work with him as a comrade, and even helped him twice. In which world, a racist or fascist behave this way?

Believe me, a person like me who was grown with these clan politics surely can say who is a fascist. He was not. He was just cautious of them because of their ability to attain superpowers with just emotions alone. Let me ask you all this, ‘Would you be okay with people getting crazy powers whenever they are depressed?’. Being cautious is not racism. It really disrespects people who faced real oppression under fascism.

What Madara and Danzo did was a classical example of fascism.

And No, Izuna didn’t die only because of Tobirama. He died because Madara was too arrogant to instigate war with Senju clan. And this was way before forming Konoha. If Tobirama killed Izuna after the alliance between Uchiha and Senju, I would agree that he was a racist. Izuna lost his life just like any other Uchiha and Senju soldiers in that battlefield.

Just because he shitted your beloved ‘Sasuke-Kun’ doesn’t mean he is a racist too. Tobirama saw Sasuke along with that scoundrel Orochimaru who once used this very two hokages to destroy the very village they strived hard to create and protect. What will you do, if you were in his place?? Please don’t lie and say ‘I wouldn’t be judgemental’.

And Imagine you are Tobirama, Sasuke is threatening to commit genocide against the entire village who had no idea about this coup detat instead of going against those old hags. Will you sit quiet as a Hokage??

He was the first person to suggest his brother, Itama, that Revenge against Uchihas are futile. All we need is an agreement to make truce. That gave the idea for Hashirama to pursue his dream. And Tobirama was happy to follow that dream and very supportive.

It’s because of all these reasons I placed him above Senju Hashirama.

Best Moments:

Amazing power display against Sasuke & Co with just an index finger (It was a pleasure to see everyone’s face trembling with mild sweat including Sasuke).

Acted as a decoy to save his young subordinates. (The way he sacrificed his life saying young wills of fire must be protected is just Woow!! I wish his subordinates listened to his words and passed the mantle to the younger ones rather than playing game at such an old age and screwed up many lives. Pfft!!!)

Any time he says ‘Shut Up’ to Hashirama (ROFL)

His absolute ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude to Naruto, Sasuke, Hashirama, Minato and Madara (He trolled them all mercilessly and I love it)

4. Senju Tsunade

It hurts me to say that Tsunade is the only female character in my list because every other female characters were written in a much more piss poorly way. Only Konan came close to Tsunade but her role was very short.

Despite her character’s purpose revolved around another male character (Dan) and a blatant objectification of her breasts, I liked everything about her other than those mentioned above.

She is the Second Best Hokage who took Konoha right after the destruction made by Orochimaru, excellently handled the aftermath by making friendly relations with Suna (Sand village), provided her best medical support to Konoha in the Pain Arc and successfully handled the fourth Shinobi world war.

She is such a badass who developed her own original jutsu called Byakugou no Jutsu, which can heal herself.

She is just way too amazing and it’s a pity that we got very less scenes in Shippuden.

Best Moments:

Took 25+ stabs from Madara’s Susanoo like a piece of cake (Man, I simply couldn’t describe that scene. All the other Kages were shocked and even Madara too)

Lifted her advisors like a cabbage sack (Those fucking old hags deserved it. Those shits should’ve died)

Her index finger flick assault on Naruto (Aww, Naruto was definitely bratty in his first meeting and Tsunade didn’t hold back at all)

Played Orochimaru like a basketball (In that same arc, she fought Orochimaru mercilessly like a devil left and right. Someone who claimed to have surpassed Tsunade never even dared to fight Orochimaru’s student and crying for his attention after just receiving one stab from Madara. Just saying)

3. Uzumaki Naruto

Naruto is the titular character and your emotions evolve along with him. He surely deserves a spot in Top 3. The only reason I didn’t place Naruto even more higher is because he didn’t experience something very important which many characters in this list faced. That is, Losing a loved one before his eyes. Every villain in this series became what they are because they lost someone important before their eyes like Nagato, Obito. (Nope, I don’t count Neji as his loved one). I think this tests the mettle of any character and Naruto failed to experience this. The only person he ever lost was Jiraiya and that too from off-screen. That’s why I felt his journey to his dreams seemed little easier compared to the rest of the characters.

His best block of episodes will always be the part 1 Episode 1, 2, 3. Episode 1 is the character defining episode for Naruto and what he learned there will be applied everywhere till the very end of the series. He learned 3 things

Forgiveness, Empathy and Acceptance

Talk-No-Jutsu

Kage Bunshin no Jutsu

From then on, this boy wins many friends to his side, not only from Konoha but from other villages too and even made them to acknowledge his strength only through his sheer hard work.

However, there is this person, whose acknowledgement he wants the most. That person is his most important bond along with Iruka Sensei. He is none other than Sasuke. One day, Sasuke left him alone for some unavoidable reason at the end of part 1 which left a huge scar in him and he vows to bring him back to the place where he belongs. That becomes his ultimate goal rather than becoming an Hokage.

The way he goes to any extent to protect the people he cares about is just simply entertaining to watch.

Every time he makes an heroic entry to save the day was never boring, not once.

Best Moments:

Sobbing from his heart after hearing Iruka Sensei acknowledging him (It just makes me feel heavy for no reason. The anime team did an awesome job to capture his emotions convincingly)

Awakening Kyuubi Mode for the first time after seeing Sasuke die in his arms (Man, out of all the collective hatred he got from the villagers, this moment affected him a lot speaks volumes)

Punching Neji from the underground to win the Chunin exams (God, I honestly believed Naruto lost but he just surprised us heavily from nowhere. And that failure speech was just pure bliss to watch even today)

Pain Vs Naruto (One of the best arc for Naruto. Because unlike other arcs, where Naruto fought with a team, this arc he was all alone fighting a person with Rinnegan. Be it the exuberant landing from the frogs with a dramatic kabuki music, creating multi-step attacks, coming up with novel solution in that difficult situation, finally ending the conflict without killing the enemy, becoming an hero. Superb journey. The only thing I didn’t like in that arc is some shitty selfish proposal. PUKE!!)

Bearing the burdens of his most important person and die along with him (This boy always shouts he will never die until he becomes an Hokage. But for Sasuke, he was ready to die along with him in order to not leave him alone proves how much he loves him. This shows his emotional maturity rather than shouting at Sasuke like he always did before which never reached his ears. This time it did)

Final Good Bye to Minato (Honestly, I was bawling just like Naruto in that scene no matter how many times I watch it. It started out slow but as he speaks more and more, he simply couldn’t hold back and wept a sea of tears 😭😭😭)

2. Uchiha Sasuke

One of the well written characters in this series, with all the flaws and positive stuffs which makes him more of an Anti-Hero. He always subverts my preformed opinions and never ceased to surprise me.

Despite being aloof and cold, his warmer side will always be exposed towards Naruto. This is evident by many things he had done for Naruto which he don’t have to or no reason to. Starting right from roasting Sakura, offering lunch, asking for tips, enquiring about breakfast, protecting him many times and dying for Naruto.

Why I placed him above Naruto is because of his unavoidable decision to tread in a complicated dark path primarily due to the trauma he carried and was stirred up again by collective factors such as Orochimaru’s cursed seal, Itachi’s arrival and Naruto’s growth. Compared to Sasuke, Naruto had an easier path because he never saw anyone die before his eyes and hence he don’t carry any trauma which can divert his path.

Even after watching his entire clan and family members murdered before his eyes at an age 8, he managed to pull himself and never snapped out like many other good characters does. But the moment when he found out that Itachi was good all along, he simply couldn’t tolerate the truth and gave himself to Vengeance. Because, he loved his brother more than he hated him all these years. This shows he loved his brother more than his parents. His resolve to destroy Konoha was perfectly understandable. But is it good? Nope. He can kill Danzo and those old hags but killing other people was never justifiable.

But still, his resolve to have his vengeance was diverted by Naruto and weakened by Itachi, at some point. So, he decided to know the truth and when he heard it, he understood the Hokages also sacrificed many precious things to protect this village just like his Brother Itachi. He understood the mistakes of his clan and decided to protect the village which he swore to destroy. [Many Sasuke fanatics think that he succumbed to the Government and Kishi wrote Sasuke to bootlick them. Their idea was to tackle genocide with another genocide. What a stupid idea!!!!]

And No, I don’t consider him trying to kill Sakura, Karin and Kakashi as his bad moments (though I feel bad for Karin). For the simple reason being, he became a monster by losing himself in the darkness who lost the rationality to differentiate friends from foes. Much similar to how Naruto lost himself to Kyuubi’s hatred against Orochimaru and in Pain Arc. It’s so hypocritical to ignore Naruto and accuse Sasuke here. Plus, Sakura had no business to be there otherwise Sasuke would not have tried to kill her.

But does it mean Sasuke did nothing wrong???

Nope.

He definitely shouldn’t have joined Akatsuki and hunted Killer Bee like an animal. Because, he knew that Tobi was the one who helped Itachi massacre the clan. When fighting Itachi he specifically vowed to kill Madara (Tobi). On top of that, Itachi passed on Amaterasu in his eyes specifically to stay away from Tobi. Why did he ally with him? Plus, Sasuke was one of the few characters who was exposed to the name ‘Akatsuki’ in part 1 itself. He clearly knew that this organization targets Naruto, his closest bond. Why did he join there? This is where the stupid part of Sasuke came out. I was grunting... ‘Oii Where did that clever Sasuke, who faced 1000 soldiers without killing any of them, went??’.

And his plan for Revolution???? I thought it would be reasonable. But his vision was eerily similar to Danzo’s vision. Grrr..... Danzo also wanted to create his ideal village by destroying the current Hokage. He wanted to unite the Five Village and put himself on top of everyone as evident from the Kage Summit arc.

I appreciate him that he finally adopted the Will of Fire, by wanting to protect the village at all costs just like Itachi and Hashirama did. But his methods are not very democratic. Plus, he wanted to do it alone. I was screaming at him... ‘Grrr, Sasuke, did you listen to Itachi at all???. He failed because he did everything alone. Why can’t you understand????’ This is also another instance, Sasuke’s stupidity glanced out.

I am happy Naruto knocked some sense into him by telling him not to do it alone but together.

Many fanatics also ask, ‘What did Sasuke do wrong to atone for his sins at the end?’.

I was like ‘Reallly????’

He joined Akatsuki, an organization which terrorized all the 5 villages and he hunted someone like an international criminal.

He spoiled the Kage Summit and attacked Raikage who lost his arm because of him. I know what happened over there is not Sasuke’s fault. But these are the kages who was loved by many people in their own villages. How can the world forget it and simply let him go?

It’s exactly because of all those lovely stuffs he did in Part 1 and all these mistakes he did in Part 2 but willing to correct his mistakes by sharing the burdens of his other half in the end made him more interesting, complicated and exciting and that’s why I love this character.

I also have a personal bias to love this character sooo much because of the character on top of my list.

Best Moments:

Defending Naruto before Sakura (Awww!!! Such a good boy he was. Eventhough I thought he was a typical arrogant K-Drama hero, he just subverted my opinion in that one scene. I always have a thing for people who stands up for someone even though they don’t have to. This is where I started to like Sasuke)

My body moved on its own. (Is there anything that trumps this scene in terms of emotions and love in this series?. This moment is where I understood the depth of Sasuke’s emotions towards Naruto).

What is a Clan? What is a Village? What is a Shinobi? (I was really hoping for Sasuke to question himself something similar to this. Because he was so self-absorbed in his hatred and failed to look outside him ever since he left the village. It was so gratifying that he did that)

Killing Orochimaru (I always thought Sasuke will kill him only after he tries to take over the body. Never imagined that he will strike the snake first)

Killing Danzo (Man, what an amazing battle!!!. It was so gratifying to see such a crass bastard die many times over and over).

His dramatic confession through his monologue (After the mystery of Who is this Tobi, Sasuke’s obsession towards Naruto remained a mystery for me. Why did he listen to Naruto under the bridge? Why did he protected Naruto in the War? I got the answer only after this confession. It was so heartwarming to see this mellow side of Sasuke)

1. Uchiha Itachi

I could write pages about him. The foremost reason I like Itachi and earns the top spot in my rankings is because he shockingly resembled me in many ways. As I already said, I come from a place where clan politics plays a major role and when I see Sasuke’s flashback in part 1, I was simply dumbstruck by such a detailed similarities.

Elder child of the family - ✅

Have an adorable younger sister who loves me more than my parents - ✅

Same age gap (5 years) with my sister as Itachi and Sasuke - ✅

Parents paying total attention on me while ignoring my sister completely - ✅

Parents constantly comparing my achievements with my sister - ✅

A sister who bear hugged me every time I entered the home after returning from my school - ✅

Despite my mom being a teacher, my sister always prefers me to teach her stuffs as she considers me to be way too better than my mom - ✅

Love my sister more than my parents - ✅

Clan-Obsessed parents - ✅

Used me as a tool for the benefit of the clan - ✅

Sending another person from my clan to spy on me - ✅

Strained relationship with my parents - ✅

Disgusted with my clan - ✅

Most importantly, this dialogue from part 1 episode 129,

Clan? Clan?

Obsessed with the organization, Obsessed with the clan, Obsessed with the name, that’s merely the detestable action that restrict yourself.

I have given up all hope in this worthless clan

Because, people obsess themselves to their clan, a thing so petty, they lose sight of the things that are truly important.

A real change cannot occur under restraints and controls

I confronted my parents with the exact same dialogue (almost 98% similar) in my own native language some years ago.

I didn’t even know the existence of Naruto series at that time. I was simply shell-shocked by all these similarities with this character.

And Yes, The moment I heard these dialogues, I knew Itachi, was a good guy, who had a very strong reason for his actions and I instantly knew Sasuke’s revenge will not bear him any happiness.

It is exactly because of all these striking similarities of myself with Itachi, and my lil’l sister with Sasuke, my family dynamics with the Uchiha family.... I could understand the magnitude of Sasuke’s love towards Itachi.

And precisely because of that, I could understand Sasuke’s love towards Naruto is not fucking ‘brotherly’ one but something that leans towards Attraction.

No wonder, Itachi left Sasuke in Naruto’s care.

Anyways to speak objectively,

Itachi is an extremely self-sacrificial person whose life is full of pain and miseries but never blames it on the world unlike other Uchiha members like Madara, Obito and Sasuke to an extent.

He did things considering the bigger picture which never benefitted himself in anyway and was willing to go to any extent even at the expense of his own family and his brother’s happiness. That is, Uchiha Clan Massacre and Joining Akatsuki. None of this benefitted him in anyways but he did it anyway, for the village of Konoha.

His ideals are shockingly similar to Hashirama, Which Sasuke pointed this out and Hashirama acknowledged that Itachi was a better shinobi than he was. ❤️❤️❤️

Now, does this means I support Uchiha clan massacre?

No way. Even Itachi didn’t.

This massacre happened because of the huge clusterfuck from Hiruzen’s incompetence, Danzo’s paranoid arrogance, Uchiha clan’s devious plan to over throw the government by force rather than approaching it in a peaceful way, say, a peace talk or a protest.

All these people acted on their own self-interest. Itachi and Shisui caught in their whirlpool, bear their burdens and paid for it with their life. Sasuke suffered for it.

But, it’s not the only reason I love this character. It’s because, the moment he decided to massacre everyone, he marked his own death by the hands of his beloved brother. I love people who owns up their mistakes and face the consequences rather than making excuses (even though it’s not entirely his mistake).

Itachi is also the only character in this series who realized his failures on his own without anyone’s interference or Naruto’s Talk-No-Jutsu.

And he apologized for everything he did to Sasuke.

Again, some hardcore Sasuke fanatics criticize/hate him for torturing their poor ‘Sasuke-Kun’ with his Tsukuyomi. I was like ‘Hmmm...What?’.

First off, Itachi apologized to Sasuke for not thinking out from his point of view and also for not telling him the truth earlier.

Second off, Sasuke never even blamed Itachi for anything (even he didn’t hold him for killing their parents). If Sasuke himself, forgiven Itachi... Why are his fans being so rabid?

Third off, for all of his supposed ‘crimes’, he paid for it by dying as a disgraceful Madman rather than a Hero who really saved the village. He is someone who should be celebrated like Naruto but instead died proudly as a Traitor of Konoha.

All in all, One of the wonderfully written character I have ever seen in the media.

Best Moments:

Itachi vs Sasuke (That battle was a pure brilliance and highly emotional especially after knowing the truth. When Sasuke released his Kirin, Itachi showed off his ultimate armour Susanoo like a badass. Seeing Susanoo for the first time gave me chills. No, Sasuke didn’t kill him. Itachi died on his own)

Itachi vs Orochimaru (Man, Itachi may look mellow but when it comes to Orochimaru he is a pure Sass. He screwed that snake up both the times by a wide margin. It seems Uchiha brothers like to fuck up Orochimaru, LOL)

Talk-No-Jutsu’ing Naruto (Geez, Naruto was being completely bratty and was full of saviour complex like he was going to bear everyone’s hatred by himself. I was almost annoyed. Thanks to Itachi, he realised. Probably he is the only character to shut Naruto using his own jutsu)

Izanami’ing Kabuto (Other than Naruto, he is the only character to go out of his way to empathize with a villain and put extreme effort to change him. I think this is why Sasuke loves Naruto, for seeing these similarities??? ).

Goodbye to Sasuke (The first time when he said ‘Forgive me, Sasuke. This is the last’ by poking his forehead and finally closing the distance by butting with Sasuke’s head softly saying ‘I will love you always’.... It always evokes uncontrollable tears in me, no matter how many times I watch it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭)

HONOURABLE MENTION

Uchiha Obito

God, Am such a sucker for Uchiha guys individually, though collectively as a clan they fucked up big time. I simply couldn’t find the place for him in the top 10. He is a classic example of What Naruto will be like if he becomes a villain?

However, all those horrible stuffs he did just for a girl whom he had a crush on which was never reciprocated seems childish. That’s why I couldn’t put him in Top 10.

And his understandable but weird obsession on Naruto was always enjoyable to watch.

One cute thing I liked about him was, whatever criminal stuffs he may have done, he was never a cheapskate though. He had every chance to take back Kakashi’s Sharingan to activate his own Susanoo. But he never even thought of such an idea. He was a bad guy. But a good friend, no matter what.

Pure Baby!!! But lost his way!!!

Best Moments:

Importance of Team Work (’In the ninja world, Those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum’. This very legacy he left to Kakashi came to defeat him later. And Naruto follows this motto even today)

Sacrificing his Sharingan (’I am giving you my Sharingan. No matter what the villagers say, you are a great Jonin. Please take it’. Awww!!! Obito. He left his Sharingan which helped Kakashi to complete a jutsu called ‘Chidori’, which is a go-to jutsu of Sasuke)

16: If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

okay so how i would re-do CANON is completely different from how i would talk abt a reboot so im gonna touch on a couple things in both contexts! the reason for the difference is canon rewrites imply i can go back in time and introduce dp fresh and new, before anyone knows what it is; but for a reboot, id be working with an audience that has a better understanding of the source material, so i dont need to spend as much time explaining, but i also need to keep everything recognizable

REWRITE: i would def make it more danny's fault that her dad lost his job, like danny was intentionally being reckless and shattered some security stuff, and he has a whole mini lesson about learning to not just run in guns blazing. i would probably remove the dating stuff with her and danny (and tuckers crush) too, I think them wanting to be good friends is good enough for freshman year

REBOOT: the fandom already knows valerie exists, so i would actually skip the whole shades-of-gray introductory episode and have her be present as the huntress from day 1-- probably even before danny got his powers. cujo is also HER dog, and her backstory-- we'd find out in like, season 1, that a natural ghost portal (maybe one wulf opened) ripped open on her dog and killed him, and since then shes had a vendetta against ghosts cause of how reckless they are and their disregard for life-- of course, cujo isnt actually dead. cujo is a halfa. a puby halfa. anyway instead of a hoverboard she actually rides cujo around cause he can fly and its big and epic. valerie has BEEN amity parks ghost-eradicating superhero for at least a year (tho shes been in the shadows abt it) and her hatred towards danny actually just becomes really petty, like them flying next to each other chasing skulker just going "I got this. no I got this. no I got this" and they just get in each others' way and its a mutual grudge.

BOTH: i am NOT keeping in vlad giving her the suit to watch danny under any circumstances. it was only utilized half assedly in canon (when vlad couldve just had an invisible duplicate watching him instead) anyway, and I dont have any reason to keep it in a reboot either. instead i want her tech to be a combination of half-stolen and half-gerryrigged stuff and she slowly slowly learns how to build her own.

I also dont want anyone knowing her secret identity, except maybe her dad, and sam or tucker. i think it works better if danny isnt privy to this magic info

Freakshow

REWRITE: i would honestly just remove him. the episodes hes in arent particularly interesting, theyre just generic "we need a plot about x" filler and he's not compelling enough a character (at least in writing) to carry a better plot that another antagonist couldnt. i'm serious

REBOOT: unfortunately in a reboot he's gonna have to pop up somewhere or else ppl will be like "where IS HE" so I'm going to stick with running some kind of ghost circus, maybe a few occult things, but cut out a lot of the spooky magical knowledge and mcguffin stuff. maybe i could make him like, someone from vlad/jack/maddies college who always felt pushed around by them and so he has a vendetta? and theyd be the only reason he even learned abt ghosts in the first place. idk in either way I want to force him into being irredeemable but also include LYDIA (the tattoo girl ghost) way more-- I want to give her an arc that ends in her tossing freakshow aside and running off to be a ghost vigilante.

BOTH: dear god the infinity gauntlet is stupid that needs to GO AWAY. especially for the reboot cause it would exist in a post-mcu world and way too many people would complain about it

REWRITE: amp him up to a far more sinister and villainous character. the crushing on maddie isnt enough, I want to show him on-screen performing experiments on ghosts and himself, dismissing everyone else cause he thinks hes smarter than them. i want him to be actively sabotaging the fentons at every turn. i would also clarify that he doesnt actually want danny as a son, but as a trophy-- a line where danny says something along the lines of "you don't want a son. you want a slave". i want to make him a character who wants to destroy the entire planet and put it in the ghost zone so he can be the true ghost king and i want to make this all evident from day one. if i'm writing a series villain you can bet i'm going to write a GOOD one. less petty drama here and more actual stakes.

REBOOT: it seems silly but sense with reboot we have the benefit of hindsight and recognizing that vlad wasn't a big series villain, theres no way i'd actually go back and write him to be such. for starters, of course, theres the fact that anything he does would really be an exaggerated part of the original, and it would bore an audience to see the same story again-- theres also the fact that it doesnt seem right to take a character who was treated as a joke half the time and suddenly make them big and important. no, instead for my reboot i want to lean into the petty gay uncle vibe. he had a crush on jack and now just casually insults him. he moves mansions every now and again by just haunting the family who lives in the one he wants, and taking over-- i mean, who is gonna believe that an actual ghost haunted you. he dislikes danny not because he has some concept of 'evil' and 'good' but bc danny is just too damn active. of course he actually does care about danny and his safety deep down, it's just on the surface they have very conflicting motivations-- not to mention that danny has been raised on legends from his parents of the villainous Wisconsin Ghost, who has to be stopped at all costs.

BOTH: i want jack and maddie to KNOW he's a half ghost and to actively be hunting him down for it, maybe bc they think hes possessed, or been a ghost tricking them this whole time, or the victim of a tragic lab accident who needs to be put to rest, etc. whatever the case it will give vlad actual tangible reason to despise them and genuinely suspect they dont have dannys best interests at heart. i think it would be neat if vlad was cynical and every time danny hit him with the "I'll expose us both. at least theyll still love ME" vlad could be like in the back of his head "oh god theyre going to kill this child"

REWRITE: cut her out. we don't need her character at all. maybe replace her with a more ominous shadow duplicate / clone that actually looks like danny himself and doesnt really have a name? you could probably combine her and dark dans characters for their arcs

REBOOT: instead of a clone from vlad, she's a guys in white creation using some of dannys dna after he was captured (and vlad broke him out bc he was like "ugh i guess i have to save this child")

BOTH: vlad actually cares abt her (duh), shes nonbinary (double duh), she gets the funny dissolve into goo powers
