I'm just gonna answer this separately because it's easier to explain with pictures.

A "composite photo" is either one of two things--a single image made by merging multiple photos together, often in cool artsy ways to make it look like something impossible is happening, or, in professional and academic contexts, a collection of portraits of a class or group of people.

This is a composite of the Wayne State Department of Mortuary Science, class of 1958. I got it at a thrift store.

Sorority composites are those, typically including all the members in a given year, or all the graduating seniors. I have a bunch, because I was in an undergraduate sorority and then two graduate fraternities. And I also have composites from my graduating classes in both undergrad and grad school.

They're weird things to have, honestly, because I've never met anyone who displayed them at home or in their office outside academia. I just sort of have them forever, sandwiched between pieces of cardboard and napped on by Malice.

? Okay radfem in the making? Isn't Marcille the same in her drive to bring Falin back, to the point she used the Dark Arts to perform fucking Necromancy (highly illegal and banned across all nations as of right now in anime canon)? You people were applauding her for her sacrifice and her drive, and yet Shuro who has a crush on her, who fell in love with her authentic self (her compassionate nature, her love for creatures others would be disgusted by, ie, dungeon caterpillar) is hated. He acknowledged he was wrong in mistrusting Laios, but when he left the party, he still risked his own life to find her, to the point he's on the verge of starvation and exhaustion. His dedication to saving her is born from the same love and appreciation Marcille and Laios held for Falin.

I understand that the prospect of a man in love is disgusting to you, especially if that man is from other culture with different courting customs than you. But can you at least recognize his drive? And that despite him proposing to her once, he never pushed her to marry him? She told him to wait and he did, for months. None of his behavior on screen has shown him to be lecherous. If she had told him no and he kept pushing, then it would be seen as obsession and creep behavior.

I don't mind that you dislike him, but you're refusing to acknowledge the depth of character Ryoko Kui is bringing to the table. That, I dislike.

New ship dynamic: who's the bull and who's the matador :)

I think, in this AU, Fernando is generally pretty fond of Seb when he first meets him. Like "ah yes my very own protégé, very nice, I shall mold him in my image." But then Seb starts veering off that course. Bullfighting is all about being dramatic, but Seb maybe has a bit too much(🤏) flair for the dramatic. This escalation starts while he's still Fernando's assistant but he keeps it generally at bay. But god when he becomes a matador himself, he's just off the rails insane.

Bullfighting, to me, is a sport about reckless endangerment of one's self in the pursuit of drama and performance(its literally described as a tragedy in three acts.) But Fernando thinks Seb endangers himself *too* much, not because he cares or anything, but he's making a mockery of the sport!! Especially when Seb starts doing that bull hand symbol(seen above), Fernando just keeps become more enraged with him, not anything to do with the fact that Seb is threatening his records and threatening his own wellbeing, nah of course not.

Seb's gesture is making a mockery of the sport, he's disrespecting the culture, the very nature of it, blah blah blah. Jenson once asks Fernando, after noticing him seething while watching Seb do his gesture, "Which bull are you really trying to defeat?" One could also describe Fernando and Seb's relationship as a "tragedy with three acts."

Anyways Fernando gets very tied up with this rivalry. Even after suffering a severe injury(I have yet to decide, but y'know mchonda electrocution core), he quickly returns to the sport, loath to let Seb get any more headway. And then Seb gets injured, poor little sweet Seb, and neither of them can handle it. Though I already covered this in my prev lore post 🤭 and I think I put it pretty viscerally there so!! I digress.

They're both matadors, but the bull itself is not the only bull Fernando wants to conquer. Conquer as in death? Hm.

I was wondering if you've ever made a comic that centers the size of a body before? I feel like you would do a uniquely great job of making something meaningful and touching.

I took a look around but didn't find anything myself. I really like how many body types I saw though. It means a lot how inclusive you are of all kinds of people, for me especially i appreciate your inclusion of disabilities.

As someone who struggles with an invisible disability I was always really drawn to conveying that in a story, the feeling that you should just push through how you're feeling especially. The fact that I got to make it a callback to the original Little Mermaid was a huge bonus.

As to a comic that centers around someone's body- it's something I'm extremely unlikely to tackle. Any story about body size acceptance would have to grow from a world in which that person was shamed and traumatized for their body. The world I've made is not perfect, however I have no interest in porting over phobias. No one in my world is homophobic, and no one is fatphobic. People can cast illusions and use magic, I feel like that would dramatically affect social norms and self worth that people develop as a result.

I haven't made some crazy utopia, people are still shitty in other ways, Sabine had an abusive ex, Charles cursing Fen was objectively a dick move even with good intentions, Rivka and Layla are still antagonistic (and also thieves so like, crime). There's still conflict in this space but I want the conflict to be centered around peoples personalities rather than prejudices or insecurities.

I do hope you find media that portrays you better, and I'm sorry it probably won't spring up in my world, but I will continue to have a variety of body types in my comics!

Suddenly remembering this one restaurant that opened up locally (that also closed very shortly after) that exclusively had its menu available via QR code, but failed to take into account that it was in a city known for its extremely large elderly population 💀

My family went there once and didn't even eat there because my step dad didn't own a cell phone at the time and you could see the "what do you mean you don't own a cell phone" in the owner's eyes as we left.

Think I'm gonna set it as an official goal for myself to move to the other side of the Atlantic within now and 5-8 years. This has been on my mind since I was a kid - but life is pulling me in the directions again in ways. Also, I feel kinda lonesome in Europe, these generally are not my people and it feels like I'm stuck in a hamlet on some days. sure, I could opt for living in a big European city: Berlin, London, Paris, Barcelona. But idk if that would make the cut. There is something about North-America that draws me in, and always had.

It all feels very idealistic still. But I'd been orientating on immigration procedures to either Canada or the US. I want to take this very slow, because I have a dog here, but also because getting an immigration visa / foreign passport in either one of those places will be a very time-consuming and troubling process. And I want to make sure it's all mapped out rationally and well.

First step is finetuning my English. I've been making progress in that lately, happily. then building a solid American network thru temporary work in either Canada or the US. I plan to do the latter in 1-3 years from now. I'm excited to see where this will bring me :)

YWAH IT WAS INSANE. like from charlies pov i think he had maybe ~15k or so. mariana has had 40-50k views every time ive watched him stream minecraft point blank and like 25-30k everything else. That is fucking insane in terms of numbers. what really got me was the trial and not only did mariana have 50k viewers q had like 40k and roier had like 25-30k? somewhere around in there for those three. and then all of the english streamers were like 2-15k (fit being lowest and charlie being highest) THE DIFFERENCE IS SO STAGGERING TO ME ITS SHOCKING

Was having a think whilst going to sleep and it was mostly about how tf team fight god were gonna get food.

So like: the missing trio got it good in that respect, even with Markoth being a vegetarian the Galaxy Team and Jubilife Village have a constant supply of food via potato mochi and a chef and despite Pokedessa and Dawn both being from a modern, privileged world were food is mass produced and accessible - even this transfer to Jubilife Village isn’t hard to adapt to.

BUT team fight god are loose in the wild and Emmet, Hop and Barry might be skilled trainers but they’re from a modern world. Pokemon and food is weird, so I’m just gonna headcanon that meat like the sausages on Swsh are like - artificially produced via their crazy tech. I say this - because whilst in Hisui the Pokemon are still more perceived as wild creatures, in their modern world they basically live side by side so that gets complicated. Anyway - Tiso is the one from the world where you fight to survive, that food, safety and health are not a garauntee. He still views these Pokemon as very wild - so like - he’s gonna think about hunting some to get food. Because that’s just what you do to survive.

Anyway basically imagine Tiso holding a poor Buizel or something like “Ight so I found this, did you guys make a fire yet?”

“What are you doing?! Release it!”

Barry takes the Buizel out his hands, apologises to it as it storms off and Tiso is just staring for a bit before.

“… Well what the fuck are we gonna eat then???”

He’s not happy with the berry response. They also proceed to sneak some food from the clans after they realise berries aren’t enough.

Another axis for story description should be Homeliness vs Exoticism.

Homeliness: Some depictions of real or real-analogue places are rooted in an understanding of the logic of that place. Geography/climate is described as welcoming or at least non-hostile. Customs are treated as common-sense. Details of everyday life are accurate.

ex. Oofuri shows life in a major Japanese urban area with very little deviation even in the name of story convenience. The logistics of train rides, local landmarks, sunset, and distances factor into the plot.

ex. Infinity Train Book 4 sets its real-world portions in the Canadian music scene during like one of two 5-year periods in history when the Canadian music scene was ever relevant. Its characters’ backgrounds are rooted in two real-world demographics (third- or fourth-generation Japanese-Canadians whose parents grew up in internment camps, first-generation Korean-Canadians whose parents were displaced by the Korean War) and their backgrounds match (Ryan’s family are more assimilated, Min-Gi’s are less).

Exoticism: Some works depict settings with no understanding for why the community depicted came to exist in that way in that place. Worldbuilding doesn’t add up. Rules of culture aren’t explained and have no reasonable basis. Any questions about the setting are shut down or are answered with absurd responses. The setting is bizarre, hostile, impossible to understand, difficult to question. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; just as homeliness enhances realism or emotional connection, exoticism can enhance performance. Depictions of real-world customs are outright false, inaccurate, or twisted.

(loose) ex. 1990s-2000s DC Gotham City depicts a version of New York that gets razed to the ground every 6 months and never gets any new buildings. The people living in it are hardened criminals, child vigilantes, and also murder victims, with nobody apparently working in insurance. The city is full of glowing green chemical vats while also, apparently, being the home of the nation’s ruling class. There’s an evil clown there. The place is not meant to feel real, it’s a caricature of 70s NYC as depicted by conservative news channels. The real forces and pressures that created 70s NYC (waves of immigration from Europe in the early 20thC, hostile WASP power structures, the Cold War turning the federal government’s resources to overseas imperial conquest) don’t really exist except by implication.

ex. Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time has dozens of gimmick fantasy cultures that function by nonsense rules designed to waste the reader’s time and put female characters in situations that only he, personally, finds sexy.

In-Between: Then other depictions have a grab-bag of the two. Some rules about the setting are treated as normal, others are nonsensical or shown to be strange. There are outright mistakes, but there’s an effort at accuracy. Something like that.

ex. North American writers using the UK as a setting while writing with US colloquialisms and demographics.

ex. Pathologic, which scores full points on the Homeliness scale except for the treatment of the Kin characters, who are firmly on the Exoticism end of the spectrum.

Homeliness and Exoticism don’t have to be determined by the creative team’s ID. A lot of US writers treat the US with Exoticism by having 0 clue about the history of their country and writing about its customs without any sort of context or understanding for where they came from. Writers from one region can do enough research with enough good will to treat another region with Homeliness. The above Infinity Train example is a piece of work by a US team set in Canada that feels really homey from a Canadian perspective. Admittedly these are 2 really similar nations, but I’ve seen US writers fuck it up before. Can’t ever expect anything from those mfs.
