more good progress today! realized how hard it is to write a conversation between two people who do not speak the other's language! usually whenever i write firefly talking to people its either in her pov (she tends to understand others better than they understand her) or its like, eda, king, or luzmari. eda who is soul-bound to firefly. king who can See Dust and thus lowkey read minds to an extent. and luzmari who is. well she doesnt have any special power shes just lived w firefly for long enough to understand.

needless to say the collector is Not good at owlspeak. they will be one day! but that day is not today.

its always so fun when the characters sort of run away from you. king and the collector weren't going to start fighting until the last chapter--but they certainly disagreed! so now the fight's started sooner, which is good overall, i think--i've still got the big whammy saved up for that last chapter, and they've spent the entire story drifting apart. its a good way to kick off the final third of this fic.

my favorite part of what i wrote today:

“Quite frankly,” King says, and he shrugs them off, “I don’t even think you understand that you’ve doomed the entire Isles.” He recoils, and his head stings as though King clawed him, but there’s no wounds he can see. Still he doesn’t remember how to breathe. The world is blurry at the edges. King’s stardust is so far away and thundering. “I—” Their words catch in their throat. “What did I do?” “You aided Belos!” He looks so much like his dad. With the snarl ‘n the anger ‘n the way he towers over them, ‘n they cower back further, wanna bare their teeth but it’s all blunt so what good would that do? “Without you, Belos’s would’ve never been able to start the coven system! To cut down all the palistrom trees! You talk a whole lot about missing how things were when you’re the reason they aren’t like that anymore!” “He said he would free me!” “Oh,” King snaps, and his eyes cut right to the center of them, piercing, “and you believed him?” “I don’t.” Everything is going fuzzy. They keep blinking to keep how many Kings there are straight. “I was trapped. I didn’t wanna be trapped! I didn’t do anything to be trapped! I just—I just, I was good good good and your stupid dad trapped me! So it’s his fault!” “Somehow,” King says, “I really doubt you did nothing.”

When I talk about Paeden to my friends who I know will Not watch the podcast, or at least not season one, I mention that he died and hasn’t come back yet. And then I remember I already emphasized that he was eight and have to scramble to explain why this child’s death isn’t actually super morbid.

Not once have I told people HOW he’s died because ngl I love him and Walter but if I tried telling people it wasn’t kind of fucked up I’d let them call me a liar.

the man who falls – secret origins (1989)

Page One: a three panel sequence of Bruce being rescued by his father. In the first panel, Bruce is screaming with his eyes squeezed shut in fear. He has his fists clenched in front of him and is wearing a reddish pink turtleneck sweater. The narration says, ‘Again, he shrieked — not in terror, but in despair...’ In the second panel, Thomas Wayne is shown from behind in a low angle. The narration reads, ‘When he opened them, he was in the area behind the mansion, in the pale light of the autumn afternoon, and his father's words pounded at him—’. Thomas is kneeling down in front of Bruce in front of the hole he fell in. He's gripping the child's shoulders as he scolds him, “Idiot! I told you never, never to go off alone. Didn't I? Didn't I?” Martha Wayne is behind them with her hand on the side of her face as she looks at them with relief that Bruce is okay.

Page Two: Martha is defending Bruce as Bruce has his head down. Thomas is still squeezing Bruce's shoulders as Martha tells him, “Thomas, he's frightened.” Thomas replies, “He damn well ought to be. He could have been killed.” Martha replaces Thomas's spot in front of Bruce, kneeling to gently place a hand on his upper arm and using a handkerchief to wipe his forehead. Bruce is standing with his fist still clenched and grimacing as Thomas angrily says, “He's got to learn.” Bruce is shown in a low angle, looking up at his mother with wide eyes. The narration continues, ‘He listened to his father's boots crushing the dead grass, and when he could no longer hear them, he dared to ask:’ “Mommy, was I in hell?” Martha soothes, “No, baby, that was just some old cave. You're safe now,” as she hugs him. His cheek is pressed against hers and she has her eyes closed as Bruce still looks uncertain. END ID]

i got sidetracked the other night but mirage tempo!! love to see a nami fight because she can certainly kick ass and deserves to more often. physical alterations might not be her strong suit, but it’s great to see her hold her own because you know she can. (also knowing she will put up a fight for the sake of her crew? for all of these people that mean everything? hello i am screaming. there is something about now being able to fight for the people you care about vs being unable to the first time you needed to and carrying that with you) also loved her line to kalifa: “if not getting my ass beat makes me rude, then so be it.”

man what even to say lol. im nearly done. one more day should do it i think, and i finally got to write a scene thats been in my head since the START, at least of for the future. and its so different than how i pictured it but so much BETTER and oh my god you guys have i mentioned how much i love king and the collector before have i--

but. yeah. wild to think at the start of this month i had written Zero Words. and now ive written a novel <3 like to be fair i do this most months but i usually do that by going hard on weekends n its nice to spread it out a bit more! i say still having written 5k in like 2.5 hours today lol. look i might change a bit but not THAT MUCH.

writing is more than a hobby to me. more than a passion. it is a lifestyle. i will Never Stop. except hopefully i will when i finish this series lol it would be nice to have time to do other things.

“But.” Their voice is weak and trembling. King’s far far far away. Some gap they dunno how to cross. Their best friend. But he slumps giving up ‘n they gave everything for him. Made a world so they’d be safe. Snarled and snapped and fought off everyone who might trap him. “I never do anything. How is being trapped my fault?” “Do you really?” King asks, and when he looks at them they can’t meet his gaze, wanna roll over ‘n whine, wanna blast him ‘til he can’t ever look at them like that again, ‘til the only person is them them them ‘cause they’re the only one who won’t set traps. “Or is that just what you tell yourself? Because—I don’t know what happened with my dad. Maybe you were right, then. But here?” King gestures to the scene around them. “After all of this?” He shakes his head. “You’ve done a lot.” They take a step back. “No.” “Okay,” King says, “prove it, then.” And he nods to the nearest toy. “Set everyone free. Stop ruling over the Isles. Prove that me saving you was the right choice. That it wasn’t just some mistake.” “I.” They’re shaking. So many toys. King right there. What if someone tries to trap them again? What if they succeed, this time? What if this time King just watches as the trap closes down, as the world goes dark, as everything is empty and void and them them them and they can’t be alone again they can’t can’t can’t because everyone tries to trap them, everyone. “I, I—” “Yeah.” King sits back down. “That’s what I thought.”

When I was a little kid, Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated was my favorite incarnation of Scooby Doo. I would watch it over and over. Even as my memory of it faded I always just kind of regarded Mystery Inc. as the best thing from the franchise by far.

I just finished rewatching it today and I am so angry. That was fucking terrible, what the hell?
