“Why is it like that?” she demands, sniffling a few times and regarding the can with suspicion.
“Like what?” Greez says blankly, leaning two elbows on the edge of the holotable. They don’t have an actual holochess board and he couldn’t find his old-fashioned one, but the table’s working fine. “It’s just carbonated. That’s what makes it fizzy.”
“Oh,” Merrin says. “So it is supposed to be like that. I thought something was dreadfully wrong with it… and possibly with you, for drinking it.”
the last chapter of 'the hardest part of ending is starting again' is up. :)

bruh in every ep of house md its revealed at the end that the patient was like. going scuba diving in lava as a side hobby, and somehow never mentioned it (they're shy) despite almost dying for the whole episode of burns and getting organ failure from a bunch of experimental treatment drugs for their misdiagnosed hotskinitis. and it takes house and his beautiful team of breakers&enterers to find the lava scuba diving gear stashed in the patient's wardrobe or something

There's something hilarious about how so much subsequent media has positioned Vampires and Werewolves as, like, binary opposite entities, and then you read Dracula (1897) and realize that wolves are that guy's preferred solution to every problem. You'd say something to Dracula about "ah yes, werewolves, vampires' great eternal enemies," and he'd just be like "you mean my subcontractors?"
