my favourite good omens fanfic trope is when the author clearly has a historical grievance with something or someone and makes it Aziraphale and/or Crowley’s problem, but vaguely- like “all that ridiculous business with Mr. Kellogg” or “And of course Byron. Remember when people would make gifsets and analysis posts and stuff about the meanings behind characters names, and find a interpretation that- regardless of whether or not it was intentional- added like another layer to the characters story??? That shit was amazing I miss it

#ramblings of a lunatic #ppl probably still do it in all fairness but I've only seen it in cases where the name is very relevant/the significance is clear #i got caught up thinking about how damian wayne's name (when u use his moms name as his surname) means ''tamer of demons''#and how that ties into his arc and i. aughj. kills #but i also have been thinking about Dick and Steph (i was reading batgirl 2009) and i realized their names have similar meanings?#like richard means strong in rule or something to that effect #obviously has to do with the english king richard and this connection is referenced in Nightwing 2016 issues 16-20 #but STEPHANIE comes from the greek stephanos which apparently means ''crown''#and then you draw the elaborate web of connections between Steph and Dick's characters and all their similarities and differences #and i become evil <3 #i also have Feelings and Thoughts about a possible intention behind cass' name. visa vie the Cassandra of greek myth #but consider: it is very late and i should sleep #anyway shoutout to toh also the name game on that show was EXCELLENT almost every name had significance to it #but not so much it became distracting y'know? good concept good execution we love to see it!

thinking about modern stories set in the medieval era and wondering if anyone has written Anything about bbc’s robin hood (2006) and how it may or may not hold up a mirror to the times it was made

#look i'm not good at this stuff. anything after 1450 i tend to zone out #but! i think that it's certainly inch resting that 3 years after the invasion of iraq #the uk gets a series featuring an english folk hero who is traumatised by his experiences of a war in the middle east #and if i'm recalling the show correctly. king richard's war isn't shown to have much Point except for those who remain in england #maintaining their influence and power in his absence #something about corruption of english politics and the use of a foreign war as a tool to support the ruling class's goal of you know. ruling #idk man i just Think there is something to be said about the use of medieval stories to reflect contemporary concerns
