Greetings citizens of the Union and beings from beyond! Welcome to Union News Central, I'm your host Bluglakkag Flublabbak. Hello! This is the recent news! ::3
Tumblr media
The construction of New Libertopia is complete! Countless citizens and migrants from near and far are arriving and settling in to their new lives.
The Mixed Sector is the most diverse and densely populated sector of the habitat. Mainly home to Feforyans, and a minority of Ugluks. But there's also a growing number of Elepharchic synths, Vegvian clones, and Atharians settling in. It's expected that the Mixed Sector will have an industrial zone, an office zone, and an urban zone soon.
Tumblr media
A Vegvian clone, Randri, has been organising welcoming comittees for new arrivals and communal gatherings to create a sense of community on the habitat.
There had to be a few changes to the design during construction, the location of a few of the sectors were swapped, as well as one sector being redesigned for oxygen breathers with warmer climates and another made into a place for oxygen breathers with colder climates.
Tumblr media
The most common arrivals in the Hot-Oxygen Sector are Orassian refugees, mainly those who've fled the horrible conflict in their space, the Rixi from our Darexi friends' space, and the Ziron of our Vakthar allies. The climate has also been found to be perfect for growing tropical fruits and spices from across the galaxy.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in the Cold-Oxygen Sector, aside from fellow Ugluks, we have seen a lot of migrants, some from Evroncia, Cydalin from the Atharian Technocratic Republic, and Dharan asylum seekers. As this region of the habitat requires less energy input compared to some of the others, as its atmosphereic conditions need much less heat, it's a logical choice for reactor districts, as much less coolant would be needed.
Tumblr media
The last of the oxygen sectors, the Temperate-Oxygen Sector, has mainly become home to our Thylak friends, Gidarean migrants from the Academy, and Darexi and Jasho from the Darexi Republic. The residents plan on turning it much of it into a resort for relaxation and vacations.
Tumblr media
Though one of the least populous sectors, the Water Sector has become populated by Zangren, Alari and Thelithians settlers. We hope to see more aquatics make this region their home in time. The Water Sector has had a lot of sea life added to it and its expected to become a large producer of food for the habitat in the near future.
Tumblr media
The Ammonia Sector is the most homogenous zone at the moment, densely populated by Ostess-Sat arrivals. Many of which work as the backbone of the habitat's maintenance workers.
Tumblr media
And the last and least populated sector, the Chlorine Sector, home only to a small colony of Replicants and some Torlerian diplomatic staff attached to their embassy. The pictured Torlerian envoy asked that their identity be protected from broadcasts, so we had to censor their face. The Replicants of the Chlorine Sector are mainly scientists and seek to construct complex labs on site.
That only leaves the Sulfur Sector, which is currently closed to the public as its being used as a sanctuary for a presapient species found on Aidon Prime, until we're able to uplift them...
Tumblr media
...The Carbon-Dioxide Sector, which we theorise could be home to plantoids eventually, and hooked up to the Oxygen Sectors in a sapient-symbiotic air recycling project.
Tumblr media
...And the Methane Sector, which we keep open in case we ever encounter methane compatabile sapient life.
Tumblr media
Well, that's all we have for now. Hope you enjoyed today's news, and if you wish to live on New Libertopia, you can contact the Ministry of Migration directly. Or if you're from outside the Union, you can contact the Ministry of Communications and get connected! This is Bluglakkag Flublabbak saying thanks for tuning in to our signal here at UNC. Be sure to bookmark our wavelength for future updates.
Solace in the Union.

Greetings! So....the PBAs seemed a little off this year. I find it strange how Abracadabra managed to pull in TEN of them while several other authors whom entered multiple pieces won nothing whatsoever. I find that rather odd, especially when half of the awards were gold. Never seen that before in my many years in this fandom. A few of my friends (all of whom won multiple awards) agree with me that the contest seemed a bit...shall we say, rigged....in her favor. I have nothing against her personally, of course. This isn't an attack. And I don't write or draw, myself, so I have no skin in this game. And I have nothing against her personally either. Yet I thought it would be best to bring this matter to the comittee's attention, in the hopes that the contest remain fair for everyone.
Hi. Thanks for reaching out with your concerns.
First, let me explain a little about how the PBAs work in general, and then I'll address your more specific concerns about Abracadebra's wins.
Over the years, several committees have hosted the PBAs. I have been on the committee since 2018 (with a break in 2019 because I just had a baby!) . The rules for the Awards have evolved over the years for many reasons: the number and types of stories written, the voice of the people (ie, slash being included in the main story categories), ideas brought forward by new members of the committee, etc. And changes have come simply as a result of the committee learning how to run such a big project. (The PBAs aren't necessarily difficult to host, but it is a big undertaking!) Categories have also been added or dropped based on the number of stories that were eligible, as well as the amount of work a particular committee wanted to put it (I, personally, hated gathering and tallying all the quotes and asked to end the category.)
One of the rules that was implemented several years ago was that a story had to receive at least two nominations in order to move forward to the voting round. The reason for that was to whittle down the amount of stories a voter had to read. This rule is especially important for years when there is a big crop of stories. A lot of people skip the nomination round simply because there are so many stories and it's daunting! Usually 70-90% (sometimes even 100%) of stories receive at least 1 nomination. When there are 200 stories in a year that's still 140-180 stories in the voting round. With the 2+ nomination rule, the percentage of stories that make it through to the voting round is between 50-60% (although in some categories, it can be higher). This makes it a lot easier on the voters to read the stories and cast their ballots.
Another rule (which I believe has held for many, many years) is that, in order to nominate a story for THE BEST STORY OF THE YEAR, it also had to appear elsewhere in the story category nominations. The reasoning behind this is that, if it truly is the best story, then it should, logically, at least appear in one other category. The rule also applies to the voting round. I've voice my opinion on the subject here (tl;dr I like the rule for nomination round, but not particularly the voting round.)
One other thing we changed (although it is not necessarily a rule), is that we no longer automatically include stories from AO3. That platform is not as straightforward with when a story is complete, or whether it's complete at all! It was too much work for the committee to comb through the whole site, trying to pick out completed stories for the year and determine whether they were crossovers, slash, responses to challenges, etc. So, this year (and I believe last) we asked that AO3 writers submit their own stories for consideration in the PBAs.
Now, as to your specific concern about Abracadebra's wins.
First, consider the nomination round. The nomination round determines which stories make it through to the voting round. We advertise the nomination round on FFN, tumblr, and AO3, but the majority of the nominators are from FFN (remember, the PBAs were FFN specific until a few years ago, so our stalwart participants are there). Why would this affect who gets nominated? A couple of reasons:
A lot of folks on FFN are pretty loyal to the platform, particularly in the HH fandom. AO3 is a little more wild. And even though the stories on AO3 are posted as competitors, we cannot provide convenient links on the FFN forums. It's one thing to post one link on the FFN forums, with the weird spacing and parenthesis, like we do in order to direct people to the PBA website (where all the stories are linked), it's another to do it for each participating AO3 story (it's frustrating to the person posting it, and the person who has to copy it). So, a lot of people just don't visit those stories. Is that fair? Maybe not, but it's just the way it is. So why does this matter? Well, FFNers reluctance to venture to AO3 mean that a lot of the stories on that platform don't receive even 1 nomination, let alone the 2 needed to advance to the voting round.
FFNers tend to have their favourite authors and will read pretty much anything that author puts out the moment it's put out. So, if a nominator is short on time, they may just refer back to a story they've previously read when it first came out, rather than scramble to read everything that is eligible.
So that's why an author from FFN in general may receive more nominations, as opposed to an author from AO3. As to Abracadebra specifically, well,
Abracadebra is very active on the forums. She posts general items, but she also hosts Reviewathons and other events for the fandom to participate in.
Abracadebra is an avid reviewer. The kind of reviewer who is encouraging, but also honest.
Abracadebra is a beta reader for many new HH authors as well as the seasoned ones.
Why does that matter? Well, fair or not, sometimes the PBAs boil down to a popularity contest. All elections do. If you have a connection with someone, or have developed a friendship or warm feelings towards someone, you're more likely to view their work favourably. If you have two equally good works and you can only choose one, how are you going to decide which one to choose? For me, personally, I tend to go with the work created by a person I am more familiar with. Again, is that fair? Maybe not, but, again, that's just human nature. We're not objective creatures.
But, there are reasons why someone (even not an FFN denizen) may nominate (and vote for) one of Abracadebra's works.
Abracadebra is just a good writer. She is, after all, a journalist in real life. A seasoned journalist. You don't last long in that game if you can't write.
Abracadebra's stories tend to focus on the more popular characters. Let's face it, Newkirk is, by far, the most popular character for a lot of people. Some readers just aren't interested in reading a story that doesn't feature Newkirk. Or, again, if they're in a time crunch, they'll focus their reading energies on a Newkirk story, rather than a story that focuses on someone else.
So, there are some reasons why Abracadebra's works moved on to the nomination round and perhaps why some other works didn't.
The same reasonings above apply to the voting round, but to be more specific on that round,
This year, 60 stories made it through to the voting round. 5 were Abracadebra's (8.33% of the total stories in the voting round.) That doesn't seem like a big percentage, but it is more than any other author had in the voting round, so automatically that increases her chances of winning.
Two of her stories were nominated as THE BEST STORY OF 2023. If someone wanted to vote for her story as THE BEST OF, they also had to vote for it elsewhere on their ballot. This isn't usually a problem- most people just do that automatically because, again, if a story is good enough to be on THE BEST OF list, it's probably good enough to earn their vote in another category even without the rule. I think only two people had to correct their ballot because they voted for a BEST OF story that didn't appear elsewhere. One favoured Abracadebra's story, and the other dropped her story from their THE BEST OF vote entirely because they didn't want to change their other votes. (Again, I have my own thoughts on this rule for the voting round, but it is what it is).
As to the high number of gold wins, remember, three of those five wins were ties. And, the other gold wins (where there were no ties) were won by a tiny sliver. It was a tight race, but the chips fall where they fall.
Now, you said you had never seen one person win so many gold awards before. Well, because I am a crazy person who likes data and numbers, I went through all the PBA gold winners for all the years the PBAs have been running. First I tallied how many gold awards each person won. Then I counted how many theoretical golds there were supposed to be (basically assumed that each category would have 1 gold award) and then I counted how many actual gold awards there were (considering ties within categories). Here is what I found:
In 2003 EJ McFall won 30% of the 'theoretical' gold awards, and 18.5% of the actual gold awards
In 2004 Patti and Marg won 33% of the gold awards (there were no ties)
In 2004 EM Siefert also won 33% of the gold awards
In 2005 Patti and Marg won 36% of the theoretical and 31% of the actual gold awards
In 2006 Jeff Evans won 33% of the gold awards
In 2007 Jeff Evans won 41% of the theoretical and 29 of the actual gold awards
In 2008 Tuttle4077 (yours truly) won 54% of the theoretical and 50% of the actual gold awards (note, this was my first year in the fandom and I didn't even nominate or vote in the PBAs, never mind being on the committee!)
In 2009 Jennaya won 28% of the theoretical and 26% of the actual gold awards
In 2010 snooky won 33% of the theoretical and 31% of the actual gold awards
In 2011 dust on the wind won 30% of the theoretical and 26% of the actual gold awards
In 2012 Sgt. Moffit won 30% of the theoretical and 28% of the actual gold awards
In 2013 Sgt. Moffit won 38% of the theoretical and 32% of the actual gold awards
In 2019 Abracadebra won 38% of the theoretical and 33% of the actual gold awards
In 2020 Abracadebra won 32% of the theoretical and 24% of the actual gold awards
In 2021 Abracadebra won 36% of the theoretical and 25% of the actual awards
And in 2024 (the year you have misgivings over) Abracadebra won 35% of the theoretical and 28% of the actual awards
(Omitted years didn't have great disparities between gold winners)
Note, I don't think Abracadebra was on the committee the first year she won an award and that was her highest win percentage.
So, what do all these numbers tell me? Well, it tells me that it's not unusual for a gold winner to receive ~30% of the the gold awards, like Abracadebra did this year. When a story is popular, it's popular. When an author is popular, they're popular.
I want to add that Abracadebra is an amazing person to have in our fandom. She never votes for her own works. She always tries to encourage new writers and is amazing at leaving reviews. People like her. People like her stories. And, all added up, it doesn't strike me as odd that she wins plenty of Papa Bear Awards, gold or otherwise.
I hope all this has helped clear up your concerns and misgivings. As long as I have been on the PBA committee, I have observed a stellar effort to be impartial and objective. We often bend over backwards to make things as fair (but also as manageable for the committee and the voters) as possible. It feels great to win an award, but I have never seen anyone on the committee try to rig things in their favour. We rejoice over any and all of the winners, whether we personally voted for their stories or not. We love that our fandom is robust and diverse. The PBAs is a great fandom tradition and I, personally, would never do anything to jeopardize it; so if I saw something sketchy, I would say something. I think you only have to look towards the efforts that Abracadebra and I have put towards the fandom in general to know that's true.
One more thing to wrap this up:
The committee is open to everyone. We extend invitations to everyone to get involved. However, it usually falls on The Same 'Ten' People to keep it going. If someone were to pop up and say "hey, I want to run the PBAs this year!" before PBA season started, any of the current committee members would say "Great! We'll stay on board if you'd like, but if you want to be the lead, go for it and we're happy to just offer advice and guidance!" But that never happens. When the year is fast approaching its close, no one new takes up the baton. Perhaps one day the STP may decide they don't want to go through the effort and the PBAs will fade away.
If my explanations here have done nothing to quell your suspicions, perhaps you, Anonymous, would like to join the committee next year. Post on the FFN forum (FFN still being the home of the PBAs) that you would like to join/lead the charge. We'd love to have you.
Cheers to you, Anonymous. And if anyone else has any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to ask. I'll try to address them the best I can.

Return to 3319
@arch-magister-khnemu
The gunships fell through the clouds like iron arrows loosed from great bows in orbit. Condensate caused by the heat of their engine wash formed bright white contrails in the blue sky behind them. Each was painted matte black and adorned with the heraldry of the First Legion. This was not the first time the Dark Angels had come to Compliant World 3319. The fact that the world was listed as compliant was testament to that fact. But the last time had seen them come in force, falling on the world with a ferocity that had scorched skies and leveled cities. There had been more of them back then as well. Their landers, gunships and air superiority fighters had choked the sky lanes.
Now it was barely a battle company’s worth, a scant handful of Thunderhawks dressed in the heraldry of the Knights Heraldor Chapter. They had come at the request of Magistrate Obyron, the Imperial authority left on 3319 some months ago as the crusade fleets prepared to move on. It was his job to make sure the populace remained loyal to the Emperor and the growing Imperium of Mankind. But a cryptic message and then complete and utter radio silence from the Magistrate caused some to grow concerned enough to send a joint task force back to 3319 and reassess.
Bedivere took his gaze from the crimson and gold gunships flying alongside his own and down towards the fortress of Castle Hetaryn as it came into view over the horizon. He was not particularly thrilled to be working with a coterie from the Thousand Sons. He did not trust their warp magics. But orders were orders, and he would not spurn his Chapter Master, nor his Primarch. If he were lucky, this mission would be quick. They would find Obyron, ascertain the cause of his concern, set it to rights, then be gone again.
Were things ever that easy.
As the gunships began their approach to Castle Hetaryn’s landing fields, Bedivere could see a welcoming comittee marching out from the main gatehouse to greet them. At their head was Lady Hetaryn herself, identifiable by the gaudy dress she wore. It was such a large garment, she needed six handmaidens to attend her at every step. Bedivere felt it a bit much. Not that it was his place to say anything on the matter.
The gunships landed in a semi-circle, noses pointed towards their approaching hosts as bow ramps dropped in unison, opening like gaping maws to disgorge their occupants. Bedivere strode down the ramp, his Legion kin following suit. He paused at the bottom, glancing over towards his compatriots in the XVth as they disembarked. Technically, Bedivere shared command of this mission with one of theirs. He did not enjoy it, but in light of the condition, he felt it best to wait until the Thousand Sons had disembarked before approaching further, to better present a unified front.

...
"So, Lady Kasai, how was your experience at the meeting?" Hashirama inquired, leaning over the desk with a bright, welcoming smile on his face. Kasai stood in front of him, a content expression on her face as the sun beamed on her from the windows behind the desk, feeling at ease with his polite and chivalrous presence.
"I was delighted to meet the Ladies of the Village, and they were very hospitable, considering I was a new member of the comittee. They were very nice to me." She answered with the most radiant smile. The amount of kidness from people that flooded her these past couple of days- now that she was officially Madara Uchiha's fiancee- has been so overwhelming it has left her in a state of euphoria. Wherever she were, her dimples did not leave her face as people greeted her as a Lady. Well, not yet- she wasn't yet married to Madara. But considering her reputation as a beautiful and compassionate soul who helped the needy and fed the orphans, people respected her.
The Ladies of the Village held a comittee whenever there was a project going on. These Ladies were wives to the head of a clan residing in Konoha, and had made a considerable amount of influence in the village. It was they who planned charities for the low-incomed as well as handling the bazaar businesses and festivites. Now, Kasai would be a part of these powerful women.
"I'm so happy to hear that!" Hashirama clapped his hands together, "I am very joyous that you have found your respectable position in the village to propose and decide. Thank you, Kasai."
Kasai thanked him back cheerfully as he dismissed her to go about her day. As she closed the door behind her to his office, her eyes caught the glimpse of a shadow lurking in the hallway, walking with heavy steps. It didn't take much to gather that the person wearing the blue-colored armor was Tobirama Senju facing his back to her. His presence frightened her- not that she was scared of him, but she was aware of what he was capable of. He killed her lover's brother, and nearly killed her lover too. Not only that, but he hindered him from becoming Hokage as well. What was she to make of him? Foe? Ally? The urge to find out was at the tip of her tongue.
"Tobirama." She called for him. Before she could realize what she was doing, the tall silver-haired man turned around to look for the caller of his name, only to find the young Uchiha staring back at him. There he was with his apathetic face, red markings painted on it.  She was shocked that he actually heard her, and lowered her eyes nervously.
Tobirama barely knew Kasai. They had crossed path before, but only to greet each other in the coldest way possible. He knew she was an associate of Madara, so he avoided her as much as possible. He received enough icy glares from him whenever she was around the Senju, so Tobirama understood the signal. "Yes?"
He slowly strode towards her, mounting over her tiny figure. Her eyes looked up at his red ones, collecting herself as to appear more composed and unruffled, but also welcoming and cordial to proclaim peace between them. "Thank you for responding to my call, despite of what you may think of me... or my clan."
Tobirama raised his eyebrow questionably, but then sighed as he crossed his arms, "I do not have anything against you or your clan, only the deviants and the schemers."
"I will acknowledge the deviated in my clan, but deviation exist in every clan, Tobirama. Even in yours. Mine is nothing in particular." Kasai retorted.
Tobirama looked down as he sighed, "I do not have the time nor the energy to discuss politics with you, Miss Kasai. I understand your affiliation with Madara Uchiha restricts you from talking to me. So of what business do you want me for?"
Her eyes sharpened, "You are the killer of my fiance's brother, and the wall that blocked him from power. You tell me, Tobirama. What should I consider you as? You have done me no harm. Can I trust you?"
Tobirama's stoic and aloof expression remained plastered on his face, but a hint of curiosity was there in his gestures as he pondered over her question. She was bold, and could have the same possible motives as Madara, but he knew of her reputation by Hashirama and Mito's testimony of her. She was a respected woman who respected the village back. He had to admit it; she was safe from all doubts that he held against her clan.
"If you don't show me a reason for me to think that you are a deviant and a degenerate, then there will be no reason for me to reach a conclusion. You are safe as long as your loyalty belongs to the village."
Kasai smiled. The answer was satisfactory. Had she not encountered Tobirama today, she might have felt the doubts fretting on her every time they would have crossed paths. Now that they had settled the status of their relationship, she wouldn't have to worry anymore. "Thank you."
However, in the shadows drifted two dark eyes that consumed anger and wrath at what they were seeing. They watched on with detest, loathing the presence of the silver-haired Senju. They've had enough.
"Kasai!" The two turned their heads towards the man in front of them, revealing himself to be Madara Uchiha. Kasai looked nervous as she watched the two men glaring swords at each other, as if exchanging unspoken words about the rules that were just broken. Madara looked visibly enraged that he had dared breathe in the same direction as his woman. "Come here."
Not wanting to come inbetween the couple's disagreement that would start because of his intrusion, and also to avoid his enemy in front of him, Tobirama took his chance, "I have work to do." He muttered as he left for his office, leaving Kasai with her infuriated lover that gave her the same agonizing glare.
All of a sudden, Madara pulled her by her arm as he marched toward his own office. The grip on her arm was so tight, her blood stopped circulating there. He was so angry it terrified her. He stormed inside his office and pulled her into it, making her look into his raging eyes, "Haven't I warned you a million times to never speak to Tobirama, ever?!" He yelled, making her jump.
"I-I... W-We were just talking-"
"You are not allowed to talk to him! He is dangerous and unpredictable. I have made it clear to you that he is a red zone and that you should stay away from him! Have I not?!"
"Yes, you have, but..." she trailed off, fidgeting for a justifiable reason for her disobedience. A big part of her blamed herself for not even following a simple rule that he had laid out for her. She felt like she had offended him to a high degree, but another part of her wanted to defend herself. They only spoke briefly, and he hadn't shown any reason for her not to be letting her guard down. "He didn't do anything! He was respectful and didn't show any sign of danger!"
"Still! Tobirama is my enemy. He killed Izuna, and has stood in my way several times! I don't want you anywhere near him. This is the last time I see you with him again, understood?!" Madara pointed his finger in her face as he commanding her. Kasai felt too meek, too timid in front of her love. She wanted to please him and stand by his side instead of associating with his enemies, but his animosity towards Tobirama was out of her character. Traits that did not belong to her nature. She was friendly with everyone and discriminated no one.
Kasai pouted as she crossed her arms and looked away from him, her arm still thumping from his tight grip before, "Fine. Whatever you say. I won't ever speak to him, and I apologize." She sniffled.
Madara, realizing that he sounded too harsh, sighed as he held her arms from behind, "I don't mean to scold you or admonish you in any way. But I can't stand that man, and you know that. You know what he have done. And I can't trust him with you, never!" He said, his tone a bit softened.
Kasai turned around, looking up at him with gentle eyes, laying a hand on his cheek, "And I understand you. But Madara, please, don't try and create future difficulties. If the situation requires me to face Tobirama in peaceful events, promise me you won't stand in my way."
Madara looked down on his lover, gritting his teeth. What a propostion. How could he let something like that happen? Kasai is the only thing he has left in this life, to risk that precious thing being in danger would be calamitous for him. He painfully contemplated on the subject, but his clenched jaw already revealed an answer, "I will have to think about it." He said as he looked away.
Kasai sighed, laying her hands on his chest, "As you wish. Just don't be angry, please." She pleaded, coming closer to him to feel his warmth around her. Madara looked down on her once again, and enclosed his arms around her little frame to give her reassurement and comfort. How could he stay angry at her? She was like a soft silk pillow that rubbed your head to dizziness and made you fall in the most pleasant slumber, dreaming of the smooth touch and seduction of the eyes. All of that belonged to him. And he would protect this blessing no matter what, even from his own self.

Bungie Weekly Update - 6/4/2020
This Week At Bungie, Season of the Worthy is ready for departure.
Before we talk about anything else, we’d like to maintain your focus on the events unfolding around the world. You may have seen demonstrations in your town, or like many of us here, down the street from the place you call home.
https://blacklivesmatter.com/
https://www.showingupforracialjustice.org/
https://antiracismcenter.com/
https://eji.org/
https://www.colorlines.com/
Support does not end with a single statement or action. We’ll continue to use our games and our shared voice to make the world a better place. We hope you’ll join in supporting these efforts by visiting the following resources noted above, and more, by getting directly involved.
This week also kicks off Pride month. If you hadn’t seen the @BungieStore announcement, our Pride Pins are back in stock. All profits from sales of Bungie's Pride Pin benefit the It Gets Better Project, which inspires people across the globe to share their stories and remind the next generation of LGBTQIA+ youth that hope is out there, and it will get better. We also have some words from the Bungie Diversity Committee, speaking to the design of the pin:
Diversity Comittee: Our Pride pin was specifically designed to include black and brown stripes, in an effort to be inclusive and show support for people of color within the LGBTQIA+ community. In that spirit we want to continue our support for all intersectional communities; including LGTBQIA+ individuals who are also part of the Black community currently fighting against racial oppression, demanding justice and equality. We can support the Black Lives Matter movement and the LGBTQIA+ community at the same time, because without the leadership and heroism of Transgender Black and Brown individuals, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, today's LGBTQIA+ rights would not exist. And so now is a time to do more to help both, rather than dividing our efforts.
If you snag a pin, you’ll also receive a code for the True Colors Emblem to show your support in-game when playing Destiny 2.
We’ll continue sharing Bungie initiatives to support LGBTQIA+ communities throughout the month of June, so stay tuned. Our commitment to racial justice is just getting started, so you can expect to hear more soon.
Within Destiny 2, you may have been watching the approach of the Almighty. You’re itching to see the conclusion of the Season, but you’re also starting to hear whispers of what’s coming next. Join us on Tuesday, June 9 at 9 AM PDT to learn about the future of Destiny 2.
Tumblr media
See you soon.
PREVIEW 2.9.0
Destiny 2 Update 2.9.0 will become available next week, meaning we have a pile of patch notes to get through. Let’s take a quick moment to look through some of the changes.
Eververse
A few TWAB’s back, we talked about the future of Eververse, and how we’re making changes to some reward structures to better balance gameplay rewards with Eververse content. Season of [REDACTED] will contain a few introductory changes, with more shifts coming in Season 12. The following changes will become available next week:
Legendary Armor Ornaments
As noted in a previous TWAB, we have shifted the Season 11 armor offering to be a gameplay reward for aspirational content.
The Season of Opulence “Intrepid” Ornament sets are returning to the storefront.
Season Pass
Added an additional 2300 Bright Dust to the Season Pass.
Bright Dust Purchases
Added a “Flair” section to feature Shaders and Spawn FX.
Highly requested items from previous Seasons will once again be available.
We’re looking at you, Wishes of Sorrow.
We will once again communicate Season 11 Silver-only items at the beginning of the Season.
We’re expecting to have an update later in Season 11 on further changes to Bright Dust acquisition, so keep your eyes peeled.
Sandbox
The Powerful Friends armor mod will no longer stack. If multiple copies of this mod are equipped, the mods will provide no bonus stats.
Developer Commentary:
Only Solar Seasonal mods are intended to stack. No part of Arc mods are intended to have stacking functionality.
Powerful Friends granted +20 to Mobility, which players could leverage to get three stat columns to the max of 100 points. The mod is not priced sufficiently to justify its benefits, and increasing its cost would have adverse effects on its primary benefit usage.
Season 11 introduces a new Arc mod, granting a similar stat bonus to Strength and will not stack.
Enhanced Auto Rifle Loader, Enhance Fusion Rifle Loader, and Enhanced Bow Loader armor mods now have a chance to drop from pinnacle mod sources.
Raid Rewards
The following raid Exotics now have increased drop chances:
One Thousand Voices
Anarchy
Always on Time (Exotic Sparrow from secret chest in Scourge of the Past)
NOTE: Drop chance begins at 10% and increases to a max of 50% over 20 clears.
Trials Rewards
Additional Masterwork material rewards now drop at 3, 5, and 7 Trials wins.
Added a Trials weekly bounty which unlocks Trials Engrams on Saint-14.
The bounty reward will match the Win 3 Milestone reward of the week.
Trials Tokens distribution has been rebalanced to focus on wins 3, 5, and 7 of a Trials Passage.
This includes repeat Passages.
Trials Tokens are no longer awarded from match completions.
Tokens are now granted specifically through wins and bounties.
Passage of Wealth now doubles the bonus Trials Tokens earned at 3, 5 and 7 Trials wins.
Hope you enjoyed this appetizer. Full course (and more) coming on June 9. See you then.
MIXING A GREEN THUMB WITH A BUMPER JUMPER
So, we heard you like patch note previews. They’re short, sweet, and to the point. This topic, though, needs a bit more time to get through. Today, Staff Designer Lisa Brown takes center stage to walk us through the upcoming Controller Remapping feature that the team has been working on.
Lisa: Greetings, Guardians! I’m Lisa, a staff designer on the sandbox team here at Bungie, and I’m going to give an overview of the controller remapping feature for gameplay actions that will be coming to Destiny for all players in the Season of [REDACTED].
Although we have controller presets in Destiny, these aren’t enough to meet basic accessibility guidelines for motor control and mobility. We’ve been working with some amazing accessibility consultants – Cherry Rae Thompson (https://www.cherryrae.com/) and Ian Hamilton (http://ian-hamilton.com/blog/) – to create support for remapping buttons on the controller. Here, I’ll give an overview of how to use the feature, what it can and can’t do, and then share some setups that have been used by various Bungie employees as examples. As a quick note, all of the below examples will be shown using Xbox button layouts.
Overview
Players can create a custom controller layout by going to the Controller section of the Settings screen and choosing Button Layout. A “Custom” option is available in the list.
Tumblr media
On this screen you’ll be able to customize mappings for gameplay actions on your character, in vehicles, and in general settings (like emotes and interacting with prompts).
Tumblr media
If you’re like me and you typically use a preset other than Default, you can use the “Reset” button to start from one of those presets.
Tumblr media
To rebind a button, select the button mapping next to the action you want, and the next screen will allow you to input the button you want to remap to.
Tumblr media
Verbs, Verbs, Verbs One of the challenges with controller remapping in Destiny is that we have a LOT of player verbs. Think of verbs as actions – throwing grenades, triggering your Super, jumping, sprinting, sliding, etc. With PC remapping, there’s a whole keyboard at your disposal to map buttons. On the controller, though, there’s only so many buttons, and we have many more verbs than buttons. To solve this, we allow the player to map an action not just to a button, but also a type of input. Our three supported input types are:
Press – a standard button press (for example, crouching on the default layout).
Long Press – requires holding down the button for a brief period of time to initiate the action (for example, casting Barricade or Rift as a Titan or Warlock).
Double Press – pressing a button twice in succession to initiate an action (for example, dodging for Hunters).
As an example, some of our Exotic weapons (Borealis, Symmetry, Hard Light, etc.) have an alternate weapon action, which has typically been activated by holding the reload button. Now this can be mapped separately, to a different button or different input. For example, I like to change it from long press X to double press X. Now when I want to switch Symmetry’s firing mode, I double press the X button.
For the Double Press input type, you can also increase the amount of time between button presses for it to register as a double press. This option is on the main controller page.
Tumblr media
Chord Support
In addition to mapping actions to an individual button, we also support mapping to Chords, meaning two buttons pressed simultaneously. In the default layout in Destiny, pressing the Left and Right Bumpers together to execute your Super is an example of a Chord. Here’s a custom layout example where a player has mapped some of the basic character options to just the face button using Chords:
Fire: X
Toggle Zoom: Press Y
Reload: Press A + X
Alternate Weapon Action: Long press A + X
Melee: Press B + Y
Grenade: Double Press B
Super: Press A + B
Jump: Press A
Constraints and Caveats
Although this feature is a step towards greater motor accessibility in Destiny, it is still limited in what it can do. For example:
This controller remapping feature is limited to gameplay actions, not UI input or menu navigation.
One motor accessibility challenge are inputs that require the player to hold down a button. We have options to switch between holds and toggles for some of our actions (zoom, sprint, crouch) but we were not able to address all cases (examples: weapon firing, class jump ability, charging grenades, drawing a bow, etc.)
We opted for flexibility in allowing players to map any action to any button and input combination, but that flexibility means there are some combinations that may give unexpected results for the player.
Example: if you map melee to press X, and some other action to Long Press X, the melee action resolves before the duration to detect a long press, so the player would always melee and never do the other action.
There is no individualized error verification for these cases.
This update was just focused on controller remapping, so there are some mappable options that appear here that are not yet available for keyboard remapping (for example, individual mappings for different class abilities, and some Warlock abilities like Phoenix Dive or Icarus Dash).
Our chord support is for simultaneous press of two buttons only, it does not detect if you press one button, hold it down, and then press another.
Unlike our presets, there’s no dynamic controller preview image for the custom layout.
Bungie Examples
Here are a few examples of custom mappings that some of our Bungie players enjoy.
I’ll start with my own. I’m typically a Jumper player, but I also have a problem with melee on Right Stick Press. Even though it’s a faster input for my hand to reach, I am a stress-clicker, and many a perfect shot line up has been ruined by a wayward melee. I needed to move my melee action to something more intentional, so I put it on A, and moved Super back up to the Double Bumper Chord. I put player highlight back on right stick press, but made my finisher Double Press A. I also made my alternate weapon action Double Press X instead of Long Press, because I prefer that input.
Another example is from a left-handed player who typically uses Mirror, but wanted a true left-handed experience, and so swapped the function of the face buttons with the d-pad buttons. Actions like reload, jump, crouch, etc. were now on the d-pad buttons, while emotes were mapped to the face buttons. A third Bungie employee really wanted to recreate a classic Halo experience in Destiny. He started with the default layout and switched zoom to a Toggle on Right Stick, grenade on Left Trigger, melee on B and crouch on Left Stick Press. He then mapped Super to A, jump on Left Bumper, and class ability on Right Bumper. He also chose to leave heavy attack, light attack, and guard (actions only used in third person modes like roaming Supers) mapped to their original Right Trigger, Right Bumper, and Left Trigger mappings.
We hope that this feature will make Destiny more accessible and flexible, but do note that this is but one step on Destiny’s journey to improve accessibility across the game.
We’re excited to bring another form of accessibility to Destiny 2, and will be watching as this first iteration goes live.

eclipse | pjm
pairing: jimin × oc
genre: coffeeshop!au, forgotten first kiss!au
word count: 1.7k
summmary: he glowed like the moon, she burned like the sun; the night they collided was an eclipse neither of them were ready for.
Tumblr media
---
today was a terrible day for jimin.
okay, maybe not the whole day. but the day at the coffeeshop had been so busy that jimin didn't have any time for a break. he got yelled at for a bit for being too soft (by a thirty-year-old woman, dressed in fur in the middle of autumn, so he really didn't know whether to laugh or to cry). he didn't have time to sit on the rocks behind the shop which led out into a small garden that only the employees knew about and only he used. he only got a two dollar tip the whole day, although it did make him smile that the tip was from the daughter of the lady who screamed at him.
it really, really, didn't help that there was a girl sitting at the bay window drawing to her heart's content by the window and the store was about to close. and that jimin couldn't hide behind jungkook and tell him to chase her out. jimin was going to have to chase her out himself.
he didn't want to. she looked peaceful. a girl around his age with long, chestnut hair draped over her white fuzzy sweater with black jeans. her sketchbook perched on top of her knees and a pencil clasped in her slim fingers, white earbuds in her ears. she had been sitting there the whole day. every day this whole week, actually. that night, she was probably waiting for the eclipse. she was drawing for hours on end, occupying that same bay window for the whole day. they couldn't chase her out because she did buy a caramel macchiato every hour. she even had 13 empty mugs on the table beside her bag (jimin counted).
literally, all jimin could do was hide behind the counter like a scared kitten, garnering the courage to ask this artistic lady to leave.
maybe i could show her my poetry. it's so bad it will make her scream and run away, jimin thought as he put away a mug. you know what, just do it jimin. just ask her to leave. you've been waiting for 30 minutes anyway, and your 21-year-old self still needs to catch gravity falls on Disney channel in an hour.
jimin inhaled, as quietly as he could, and put down the rag he was wiping the table with. his feet glided over the parquet floor and he ended up beside the girl.
"excuse me," he said.
the girl didn't look up from her drawing. jimin tapped her on the shoulders. "excuse me, miss?"
only when he tapped her shoulders did the girl look at jimin's bespectacled face and did jimin look at hers. and dear god, she was freakin' pretty. she had a button nose and eyes that glittered with moonlight fire, concealed by round spectacles that framed her face. she spoke in a cheery way after pulling her earbuds out of her ears, as if her art hadn't pulled her into a twelve-hour long daze. "sorry sir, did you need something?"
"i'm so sorry miss, i'm afraid it's past closing time- "
"oh my, how long have I made you wait?"
"20 minutes."
"oh my gosh i'm so sorry," she paused to look at his nametag, "jimin."
"i-it's no problem, miss. thank you for understanding." jimin nodded his head before walking towards the counter.
the girl started packing her things into her backpack before she stopped, hand about to stuff her pencils into her bag, and spun around to jimin. "wait, what did you say your name was?"
"jimin."
"in full?"
"park jimin."
"oh my gosh, jimin?" she gasped as she stood up. "like, from alexandria high?"
"yeah? wait how do you know- "
"jimin, it's me! chaeyoung! remember?"
"o-oh yeah, of course i do!"
of course he did. how could he forget park chaeyoung?
she was like the sun of alexandria high. everyone gravitated towards her. she radiated light whenever she opened her mouth. the girl who would give you her lunch money if you had none. the one who was greeted every 5 seconds when she walked down the halls. class president, leader of sport teams, head of every comittee she was in. the one who was homecoming queen every year. boys flocked to her but she always turned them down, the reason remaining unknown to this day. she seemed too perfect to be true.
she also happened to be jimin's crush of three years. must be exciting to be jimin.
they used to sit next to each other in math. they were partners for everything. it was pretty cliché; the guy who nobody knew falling for the girl who was essentially the centre of the school.
chaeyoung nudged jimin's shoulder. "how've you been?"
"take a guess," jimin retorted, gesturing to the cafe.
"shut up," chaeyoung rolled her eyes. "i read your poetry. you're doing pretty well."
oh no, jimin thought.
she read my poetry.
she. read. my. poetry.
yikes.
"oh haha, really?"
"yeah, i have your book at home. I thought your name looked familiar."
she bought my book? why?
"oh wow what's a huge compliment!" jimin rushed, trying to move on from the subject of his poetry. "you've been good, i'm guessing? your exhibit just opened."
chaeyoung chuckled. "yeah it's been great. a lot of alexandrians came. you should have come!"
"doubt it. no one knows me," jimin laughed. "plus i was working a shift that night. i have gone, though. your work was amazing."
"thank you, jimin," chaeyoung said. jimin swore her eyes twinkled in her words, and he felt the lovesick teenager in him threaten to reveal himself. "you should have called though. to meet for coffee or something? i could've shown you around."
"well," jimin picked at the sleeve of his sweater, "i didn't think you would remember me. no one did."
chaeyoung's eyes softened. "of course i remember you, jimin."
"didn't seem likely that you would. i only went to one party in my whole high school career."
"yeah i remember that party," chaeyoung said before looking out the window. "you kissed me that night."
hold up, i WHAT.
chaeyoung's eyes searched jimin's face but only found confusion. "you don't remember?"
i was obsessed with this girl for three years, and you're telling me I don't remember the night i kissed my crush? what drama is this?
"that night, i was drunk. shitless. it was the first time i had taken a drink, and i was wasted. that one guy whose name I can't seem to remember decided that he would take this chance to- god, i don't know what he was trying to do. probably like force himself on to me or something. anyway, i was walking away from him really fast, and suddenly you pulled me into this hallway which was out of sight- i also realise that is so you- and he walked right by. and... i think our faces were super close so, i don't know. you just kissed me."
god, i was SO dumb.
"oh wow."
"funny how the drunk one remembered, but not the sober one," chaeyoung laughed.
"maybe i can say this now that we're older," chaeyoung started hesitantly, "but that kiss meant a lot to me. i mean, i did- i had a- i liked you? a lot back then."
jimin almost choked on air. and before his brain could register the stupid words he was about to say, the words tumbled out of his mouth. "i liked you too."
for the first time, park jimin saw chaeyoung shocked. "you did? wow, and i thought i didn't have a chance with you."
jimin was in disbelief. "you? not have a chance? chaeyoung, you were like- you were the sun-girl. the girl who radiated light when her footsteps touched the ground, the center of alexandria high, the light of everyone's world, not have a chance with- "
"- the moon-boy." chaeyoung sighed. "you were different, jimin. you were the shy boy who radiated a different type of light, soft like the moon. you weren't an admirer or a suitor, you were a friend to me."
"maybe that's why i liked you so much," chaeyoung continued. "everyone saw me as something else: class president, head of comittee, the girl they wanted to date. everyone had expectations anytime they looked at me. but you, you saw me as chaeyoung, as myself. there were no expectations from you. it was, freeing to be with you."
silence fell as the two exchanged glances in the empty coffeeshop.
"i guess this is fate, huh chaeyoung."
"i guess so."
just then, jimin did the bravest thing he'd done in a long time. he pulled chaeyoung into a hug for the first time in 7 years. as chaeyoung's arms slowly snaked across his body to hug him back, jimin realised that this was all too familiar to him. chaeyoung still used the same cherry blossom detergent, and the same coconut and vanilla perfume. for a while, it felt like they were teenagers again: hanging out after school after doing their math project, enduring the work solely for each other's company.
after a while, when they finally pulled away, they stopped to look at each other before jimin's alarm for 9 o'clock went off. "hey, it's getting late. want me to walk you home?" jimin offered, accepting that we was just going to have to miss his dose of gravity falls tonight in favour of a much better time.
when chaeyoung nodded her head, jimin gathered his things off the counter top. chaeyoung began to pack her things as well. ten minutes later, when the shop had been closed, they were on the streets. they walked and reminisced about the times when they were young and foolish in high school. they revealed all the stupid things they did that because of their infatuation with one another. they talked about their interests, their family, their jobs, and all that had, have, and will be in their life. all the puzzle pieces fell into place in time with their footsteps in the night. fate smiled on them that night, glad that his laid out, intertwined ribbons of plans had finally made their way to jimin and chaeyoung.
"you didn't manage to catch the eclipse tonight, did you?" jimin asked with a frown in his voice as they arrived at chaeyoung's apartment door.
chaeyoung smiled and pushed a piece of paper into his hand. "i think, moon-boy," she said, kissing him on the cheek, "that this is eclipse enough."
