I've been a homebody lately, but I'm content. Cooking dahls, soups, stews, reading on the sofa, lying in bed talking about films and art and things we want to do tomorrow. I sign the petition, donate to the fundraiser, put another protest in my diary. It's quiet but tangible. Last week we made a mess trying to pipe cream into brandy snaps and we laughed so hard that when we kissed the cream got on my nose and cheek. I sit at the desk writing, J texts me from the next room: lunch? I smile because there's just enough good ingredients in the fridge, I have a new commission to work on, and everything is just right.
