Okay, so I know the reason the physics in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have so many weird exceptions and edge cases is because the games' designers are concerned foremost with puzzle-crafting, and only secondarily with producing a coherent world model, and nearly every bit of weirdness can be explained by the fact that some puzzle mechanic required the games' physics to work that way. There's simply no deeper unifying logic to be found, and trying to find it is a good way to give yourself a headache.

One of those pieces of weirdness lies in the relative weights of various objects, particularly in relation to Link, the player character. Some objects are incongruously heavy or light for their size because the puzzles in which they appear require them to be, and Link himself is weirdly lightweight, presumably because that was the easiest way to cause him to experience the exaggerated knockback that many puzzles require without making the forces involved ridiculously strong.

Most objects and characters which recur among the two games are at least consistent in this respect. However, it has been empirically determined that in Breath of the Wild, Link weighs the same as 8.5 apples, whereas in Tears of the Kingdom he weighs the same as 10 apples, and now I can't stop myself from wondering what fucking puzzle mechanic required Link to be exactly 1.5 apples heavier.

Imagine an alternate universe where botw Link pulls out the master sword at a young age (like 6 idk) but instead of reporting it to the royal family, Link and his family just keep it hidden and tell no one that the child has it. Link doesn't join the hyrule army at a young age, instead he spends his childhood helping out in his family's tavern (mainly in the kitchen). He has no responsibility on his shoulders because his parents raised him not to care about what an old sword thinks of him.

One day the royal family make their way through the lost woods only to find that the sword isn't there. Remember, Link's family told no one that he pulled the sword (rn it's stored somewhere in the attic underneath a pile of spare furniture for the tavern). Royal family obviously freaks the heck out cos where is it?? Link's family, being the tavern owners they are, obviously hear word on the street the royal family can't find the master sword. What does Link's family do? Put more furniture on top of the sword because honestly in this day and age can't hyrule think of a better way to stop an apocalypse than a single kid with an ancient sword?

Apocalypse begins, but it doesn't get very far because (1) Zelda is confident in herself thanks to an entire childhood of not being compared to Link's feats and (2) Link walks right up the the sanctum sword in hand, and just stabs that gross cocoon that hasn't had 100yrs to turn into a full-fledged Ganon. Zelda (who was wielding her powers to subdue Ganon) notices him and the sword, and asks him why he didn't show up sooner. His response? "Because until today I didn't have a reason to." Zelda asks him what's his reason then. He says "this mf burned down my family's tavern" – then just walks away. Calamity over before it even had a real chance.

Characters from my favorite video game franchise that shouldn't be comparable, but somehow are.

Link from "The legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom" & Shadow the hedgehog from "Sonic the Hedgehog"

-Both were asleep in stasis for a long time: Link during a century, Shadow during half a century.

-Both had amnesia & completely lost their memories, having no idea who they were.

-Both (somewhat) failed to accomplish their purpose: one to heal Maria, the other to protect the land & people of Hyrule from Calamity Ganon resulting in thousands of deaths.

-Both have fought THE DEVIL!

-Both hides their true feelings/emotions.

-Both were assigned to heal and/or protect someone which they care deeply about. And in both cases, they lost them (except Zelda returns to her true form at the very end of totk)

-Both lost family members and/or friends close to them.

-both have trauma/ptsd.

-Both have died, or had their life standing on a thread.

-Both can sometimes be a little sassy.

-Both have fought robots & war machines.

-And finally. Both characters ride a motorcycle:

Another thing I would have added is that: Both have fought aliens. But in Link's case, that was only in early story concept & very early gameplay footage (timeframe of 3:07 & 3:27 mins) of Zelda Breath of the Wild. So, I don't think it counts. Although, a previous incarnation of Link has fought aliens (in Majora's Mask).

Accustomed To You (Revali x Reader)

Based on this idea by @dorayakimanjiro where Revali uses the string of his Great Eagle bow to make you an engagement ring. Thanks for such a delightful and beautiful idea!  Reader is gender neutral. ☺ The customs of the Rito were unorthodox in some ways due to their flighted anatomy and avian instincts - and in some ways they were shared amongst other every race present in Hyrule. Love, and being in love, was no strange concept to Revali. Though most were sure the too proud Rito would ever find companionship that suited his tastes, you proved them all wrong. In your eyes was a kindness he’d never experienced from anyone, a depth of selflessness and joy that was infectious. It made him soft - the unbreakable Revali becoming pliant from your genteel gestures and willing companionship. Even surprising him when you took up his bow on your own accord to nail a Bokoblin that had intended to get the jump on him (a mistake on his part, as he was so peacefully distracted by your humming while you both were enjoying the spring breeze).  It was then that Revali knew he could not simply see you as just a friend or a traveling partner. No, you’d earned his respect entirely - and even moreso, his heart.  So here he was, engaging in a tradition that all peoples of Hyrule were familiar with: intention of courtship. It took him a few weeks to be able to whittle the circular thing to the size of your ring finger. It was made from the finest wood Rito Village had to offer - where he would carve the tiniest intricate holes and patterns that represented him. He polished and shined it to the point of gleaming in the light of the sun; it was almost perfect. Almost.  With careful precision, Revali unfurled the string of his Great Eagle bow - worn with heroic use - a string you’d more times than you could count; a string that that was basically an extension of himself and all that encompassed. He threaded the bow string through the small holes of your ring, weaving it through in a herringbone pattern until it was complete and knotted at the end. A proud feat for the Rito, whose labor could be classified as nothing less than eternal devotion. Each moment spent sculpting, polishing, and weaving until it was the perfect piece was spent with you at the forefront of his mind. Your laughter, your warmth, your love...all things Revali decided long ago he wanted at his side for eternity. His tailfeathers chuffed at the brilliance of your ring.  Now it was perfect.  --- “Revali, it’s marvelous!” you say with a waver in your voice, your bright eyes brimming with tears as you scanned the woven ring. His chuckle was light, “I made it...for you.”  In his feathered fingers he took your hand, slipping the ring onto your finger. His voice softened, emerald hues holding your gaze with all the love he could muster, “For as long as I’ve known you, you have always felt familiar to me...One day I realized, being with you feels like the sun on my wings when I fly,” he looks down at your hand, heart full at how right it feels to see his ring on your finger, “And just like that warmth, I will always cherish you. Marry me, chickadee...” His nickname for you. A passing tease from many many months ago now turned an affectionate endearment, nurtured by the love you two both shared. Without thought, you threw your arms around him, joyful tears falling freely now. Your heart threatened to spill over from how overfilled with adoration it was. A quick pullback from his returned embrace allowed you connect your eyes once more,  “Yes! Oh Revali, I would love nothing more!” and your pressed a loving kiss to his beak. He held you closer now, his tailfeathers puffing up from happiness.  Eternity with you made his skies feel so much warmer.
