I haven't been roller derby posting here in a while, in part because I need something to post on cohost and in part because after a while practices become really routine. You show up, you warm up, you practice skills, you do some blocking skills, and then you do gameplay drills. It's fun, but not much to write about ya know?

However I wanted to give a little update for two reasons.

we have our final game coming up, and because I was still on my rookie skates from 2019 and I'm very hard on them, I broke my skates and am now gonna have to bench for a game that I've been the main contact for organizing for. AHHHHHHH. But its fine because there's someone to captain the team while I'm on the bench.

everyone who meets ethan is a little bit obsessed w him which is sooo funny. i feel like you could say anything about ethan and eveline would just believe it. "ethan survived a zombie invasion" eveline is like "of course he did that's my fucking dad. and he's better than yours" he's got a larger than life history wrapped in a 5'7'' human body that looks like it gives out free samples at the supermarket. it breaks the mind. i feel like at a certain point even chris is like ok at this point someone could tell me ethan is secretly the president and i'd at least consider it

Nah I'm not done making this posts.

Roller derby is *fun* y'all! There was one other person from the fresh meat that just finished at practice, and two people from my first fresh meat. It wasn't not intense, but you know what? I mostly kept up. There were things I couldn't do to the level everyone else was, but i still did them.

There was cool shit learned, and things related to gameplay and strategy, and I blocked and jammed pretty well!

It was a three hour practice, but I stopped skating for the last half hour, my legs weren't letting me keep it up any longer. Still helped out, was an impromptu jam ref for the starts we were practicing.

I had a lot of fears and worries about how it would go but like. Roller derby is fun. Skaters are nice. And no one is going to judge you more then you judge yourself.

When I was 8 I fell on the road outside my school and skinned my elbow and my mother yelled at me for crying and said that other kids get hurt worse and don't cry. I was so confused and in so much pain.

Anyway I had to be taken to the ER.

Can we stop telling little kids that they're pain is invalid and they're overreacting. The other thing that sticks out to me from that day is the ER doctor being so gentle with me and giving me candy.

Maybe the wound wasn't "too bad" but I was eight. I was a child.
