This series, the whole franchise rlly, has always been extremely dear to me, but I avoid posting art online out of my own anxiety. However, I showed these to a friend I managed to drag into rise fandom hell and they are practically holding me at gun point to post these lol. This is the most recent art I’ve drawn for the Rise boys <3

summary is that leo is transported to the samurai rabbit universe instead of his family’s arms through a trifecta of his ninpo, mikey’s mystics that begged for him to be safe, and the ki stone sensing a hero in need

when leo lands in the world, he doesnt know any japanese aside from simple phrases he grew up with; “thank you”, “please”, “excuse me”, “help me”, “i love you”, etc

him and yuichi fall in love and he remains there for a few years ! however . theyve all known since the beginning that the ki stone would take leo back once he was healed. she was clear on the fact he was only there to be helped , not to live there . so yuichi and leo hold off the inevitable, despite leo missing his family horribly and knowinf they think hes dead , despite knowing how selfish it was to have one more day with each other , they avoided the ki stone until they go to the temple together and leo is ripped from the world without even a chance to reallt say goodbye to everyone

this one is the most recent of the bunch, just putting my version of yuichi for rise into a more usagi yojimbo styled setting ! the story is entirely different from the fanfic and im still working on it But

yuichi is the great grandchild of miyamoto usagi instead of a distant ancestor , so the debt of the shogun’s assassination is that much heavier and Far more dangerous to hold. yuichi and his adoptive little sister, hana, have recently escaped the mass murder and pillaging of their rabbit village (the same one that mariko and kenichi and usagi grew up in) and are on a journey to find their aunt for sanctuary

along the way, they run into a lot of familiar faces, such as the hamato clan , who has karai as their jōnin ! also yuichi gets possessed by jei at some point

hes trans too so he “disguises” himself as a boy to be more hidden as they travel

Do you ship any of the turtles with anyone? or do you ship anything in rise at all?

(This ended up being a lot longer an answer than I intended hoo boy sorry about that)

Hmmm, I’m not too big a shipper tbh! Especially since I really enjoy canon interactions backing my ships, so it’s hard for me to actively like any that don’t really have that going for them. There’s plenty that I see around that I think are cute, but that’s usually the extent of my thought process for them.

For ships I more actively have, I guess I like AprilxSunita! They’re very very cute and I think they have some huge meet cute energy in their first episode together, and their chemistry is genuinely adorable (plus them being featured means more April screentime which is ALWAYS a good thing.)

I also think AprilxCasey (and when I say Casey I mean our OG girl) is really good, as I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, and I think they have a lot in common and just bounce off each other very well (not to mention this ship in other iterations of TMNT has a loooooot going for it.)

Keeping the chain going, I think RaphxCasey (again, OG Casey) is also one with a tonnnnn of potential. They have a lot of common characteristics, and considering Raph’s whole thing with Franken-Foot, I really think there’s a lot of room there for a relationship to develop. Plus, like AprilxCasey, Raph and Casey tend to have a close relationship throughout the iterations of TMNT and it would be great to see that more with these two, even if not romantically.

Actually going back to enemies to lovers, I unironically think there’s a ton going for DonniexKendra. I know a lot of people hate this ship, but I don’t and I actually think it could very easily work whether in a love-hate way or a slow burn way. There’s a lot to like here and honestly they’re good together! Kendra is legit Donnie’s type too haha (cute, but mean.)

Lastly, SplinterxDraxum is good…when done right. I really like when people take it and don’t undermine the very real trauma that Splinter has gone through. As I’ve stated a lot, I love me some enemies to lovers, so I can see the potential here. Plus lbr Draxum was down BAD for Lou Jitsu when he first saw him haha.

I think that’s the extent to what I actively like? Everything else usually falls into “aw cute” or “ehhh not for me thanks”. And before you ask YES leosagi is cute and I’ll read fics with it if the premise is appealing, but I’m afraid I need some canon interactions to establish base character dynamics before I actively ship it alas.😔 Super cute though, no hate to it or any of the other CanonxCharacter-they’ve-never-met ships, I genuinely think people should just have fun! And for what it’s worth I really do wish we got a Usagi and Leo interaction in Rise like we have in other iterations.:(

So yeah. Overall, I have a few ships I enjoy, but I fall much more in the “prefer to keep everyone to themselves and make the focus family and friendship” category.

TMNT Fanfic Complaints

As this blog is mostly a space to vent, and I am currently obsessed with pretty much every iteration of the TMNT, I thought I'd throw together a list of things that make me close a fanfic instantly. If you like any of these things, then that's totally fine, but for the most part, any of these things will have me dropping a fic in minutes. A few of these are aligned with posts I've made in the past, but I am noting them down anyway as this is a way of me getting out a lot of my major complaints at once 😅

No.1 Having all the brothers be abusive (particularly towards Mikey), with bonus points for any crossover that will then have one version of the turtles chastising the others for the way they treat their brothers. It just doesn't work, every set have very specific dynamics, but none of them are abusive.

No. 2 Crossover fics that make it impossible to tell who is who. This can occur in a few different ways. One of which is that the authors completely fail to differentiate different universes, making every single version of the turtles talk and act in the same way. Another is when a fic gets flooded with nicknames/pronouns/usernames, without a decent key. If you have a crossover fic with even just 3 or 4 universes, but every single turtle has multiple sets of pronouns, multiple nicknames, and multiple usernames, you really need a way to make it clear who is who.

No.3 The 'poor baby Blue' phenomenon in which every version of the turtles seemingly forgets all of the horror they have suffered because of what the Rise boys have gone through, particularly Leo. I honestly hate it when I am reading a crossover fic and all of the trauma from every series is disregarded in the face of the Rise Shredder and Rise Krang, which brings me on to my next point...

No.4 Essentially an extension of No.3, but can we all finally drop the idea that the Rise Boys had the scariest villains? Sure, their Shredder and Krang were intense, but for the most part, their villains are all pretty much played for comic relief. Either 03 or 12 had the scariest villains. And before anyone comes at me like 'Oh, Rise Shredder was a demon, the Rise Krang managed to take over the world, etc', may I remind everyone that 03 also had a demon Shredder who took over the world (and multiple others including the one who took over in SAINW), and the 12 Triceratons straight up destroyed the Earth with a black hole?

No.5 Fics that give away traits from one turtle to another e.g. making any of the other turtles better at science/math/tech etc than Donnie. Each of the turtles has their own thing, and Donnie will always be the smartest academics wise. It annoys me to no end when people try and make any if the others, usually Rise Leo or 12 Mikey, out to be a genius like him. I actually once read a fic where Rise Donnie asked Leo to help someone with a chemistry question that he couldn't handle. It's ridiculous, and usually carries over from the headcanon that Rise Leo is the medic (is there genuinely any evidence for this in the show besides Leo having a pouch? Because the only time I can recall anything medical related being brought up was when Donnie mentioned Raph's allergies). I have also seen people talk about Rise Leo loving to dance more than Donnie, even when the show explicitly states on multiple occasions how much Bootyyyshaker9000 loves to dance (also making Leo a massive theatre kid when Donnie breaks into songs and dance numbers on multiple occasions.) Or when 12 fans make Mikey the artist when it is actually Raph.

No. 6 (people will probably be mad at this one) Stop making everything about Leosagi, please! He doesn't even exist in the Rise verse, yet the entire fandom is absolutely swamped with Leosagi content. It's annoying when you are reading a Rise fic, and then out of nowhere it all becomes about Leo's relationship with Usagi. These fics also tend to make Usagi the most bland character in existence, with his two defining traits being samurai and Leo's boyfriend. They even do this to Bayverse!! Or bizarre crossover ships that start taking over everything (Why is Mikey being shipped with pretty much all of the spiderman iterations now??(

No. 7 Any fic that has all of the Donnies despise each other. I don't know if this is bias, but I feel like most of the Donnies would enjoy having people on their level to discussbthings with, people who would respect their boundaries and listen to each other's rants. And before anyone brings up their egos, most of the Donnies are shown to be able to and even enjoy working with others who are around their level (Aprils, Leatherhead in 03, Fugitoids etc). I actually think that, aside from the Mikeys, the Donnies would probably get on the best.

No. 8 One of my biggest pet peeves (that I have complained about before) is acting as if any version of the turtles is far superior to the others in terms of intelligence, fighting skills, etc. The Rise boys do not solo every verse. If they had had more training, then yeah, they would be probably some of the strongest characters. But they haven't had the training of the other verses, and mystic powers cannot compensate for everything (considering the fact that they got absolutely bodied by their Krang, you think more people would realise this). The other iterations pretty much all have more formal training, more experience fighting a variety of opponents (Bayverse and the 90s are perhaps an exception to the greater variety of opponents here, but as Bayverse Raph alone can yeet a shipping container singlehandedly with no powers, I think they're good). In no universe should the Rise boys be giving any of the other characters fighting tips.

I will probably write more of these at some point, this was pretty cathartic 😅 I also promise that I do not hate Rise, I just have more issues with the wider Rise fandom than most of the other shows.

Favorite TMNT ship? Uhhhh...

I don't have any other ships I like as much as Timatello. I know some of my friends' OCs that are shipped with the turtles (in a not weird way dw) but they don't technically count.

I like Leosagi, but mostly 2003 Leosagi and certainly not 2012.

Aprinardo in TOTTMNT is alright, I like them being a couple because they actually aren't weird towards eachother and it's wholesome, but I only see them as platonic.

Leochi (Leo and Yuichi Usagi) is pretty good, I love the concept of Yuichi working at the Run Of The Mill Pizza, or a crossover between dimensions.

Shellshocked is sweet, but it could never happen, unfortunately.

Donnie and Atomic Lass is just funny as hell.

Apritello is something I don't really enjoy, especially in 2012, because of the way they wrote it. If written correctly, I can see this ship happening from a platonic standpoint.

Mikey and Renet - Again, platonic.

Raph and Mona Lisa - 2012 did it and it was rather undercooked and he never actually called her by her actual name, which was odd. Overall it's very sweet but I wish they had more time to develop it. Again, I'd love to make them a thing in my Rise fanon, but my current storyline is incomplete.

Raph and Alopex - Yeesh, the age gap that some of the artists said they had was.. Odd, to say the least. But their relationship definitely did grow to be pretty good until they parted ways. I'd be down to make Alopex best friends with Raph, but the romantic aspects don't vibe with me.

Donnie and Bigfoot - Get the fuck out.

Any of the turtles in general x April - Depends on the way the canon version wrote it. (Aprinardo is currently the only good one.)

Sunita x Raph - I once saw a friend of mine ship these two together and honestly, I liked it! Very good art, very good opinions on it.

literally the gayest most flamboyant idiot teenager ever. he's a sassy overconfident bastard and we love him for it. he has a magic portal sword for most of the series. the kind of sword he wields (an ōdachi) was specifically picked because, AND I QUOTE, "he can't even hold that thing without looking like he was posing with it. we thought that was really fun for a kid who's got a giant sword and that kind of attitude." in previous tmnt iterations there was this guy, Usagi, who i guess those versions of Leo must have had some kind of chemistry with, idk. fun fact he's not even really a tmnt character, he's a crossover character who's just showed up in like three different iterations!! anyway, despite Usagi literally not existing in Rise canon, Rise!Leo gives off SUCH gay vibes that THE ENTIRE FANDOM HAS DECIDED THAT HE EXISTS ANYWAY AND IS LEO'S BOYFRIEND AND/OR MASSIVE CRUSH. THE ENTIRE FANDOM. I'M LITERALLY NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING. Leosagi is like, the biggest ship in the goddamn fandom and ONE OF THE CHARACTERS ISN'T EVEN CANON. this entire animatic. yeah.

Dual wields katanas like a boss. Has also used various other swords in different pieces of TMNT media. Regardless of which iteration of Turtles we're talking about, he's also almost always "close friends" with the katana-wielding samurai rabbit Usagi!

The existence of Yokai & Hidden Cities in Rise creates the opportunity to have Leo & Usagi exist in the same world & when considering Usagi’s place in New York’s Hidden City the two most common positions that I’ve seen Usagi be in, in Leosagi AU’s are he is either a Battle Nexus Champion/ connected to Big Mama in some way or he is a waiter at Run of the Mill.

The idea of having Usagi be connected to either the Battle Nexus/ Big Mama or having him work at Run of the Mill is really interesting to me from a Leosagi perspective because the Battle Nexus possibility draws on a previous iteration of Leo & Usagi while the Run of the Mill option is interesting due to Leo having a strong connection to Run of the Mill in Rise.

The possibility of having Usagi be connected to the Battle Nexus or Big Mama is possibly a reference to the 2003 iteration of TMNT where Usagi & met Leo at the Battle Nexus & formed a strong bond with one another

However the Battle Nexus in Rise is run by Big Mama meaning that if Usagi & Leo met at the Battle Nexus like their 2003 iterations did then Usagi would have some form of connection to Big Mama as well, however with the connection that Big Mama has to the Battle Nexus in Rise it could be argued that any possible connection Usagi has to Big Mama could possibly be taken as an indirect reference to the 2003 iteration of Usagi

On the other hand the possibility of Leo & Usagi meeting at Run of the Mill is interesting as well as Leo has a strong connection to Run of the Mill in Rise, the episode Minotaur Maze where the Turtles discover Run of the Mill for the first time is arguably one of the earliest Leo centric episodes in Rise & multiple Leo focused episodes either feature Run of the Mill or Señor Hueso.

Leo: Okay Señor Hueso, my beloved brother Donatello and I had a bit of a spat

Another aspect of Run of the Mill that is interesting is that Run of the Mill is possibly one of the places where Leo feels the most comfortable as in the episode Portal Jacked! Leo went to Señor Hueso for help & in the episode The Hidden City Job when Leo has an argument with Donnie, Leo goes to Run of the Mill in order to think of a way to make up with his brother.

Run of the Mill is arguably a place where Leo feels safe & comfortable so having Usagi possibly be connected to Run of the Mill would allow Leo to form a possible bond in one of the places where he feels the most comfortable.

Having the Rise version of Usagi be connected to either Big Mama & the Battle Nexus or Run of the Mill is interesting as the Battle Nexus serves as a reference to previous versions of Leo & Usagi while Run of the Mill seems to be the place where several Leo focused episodes took place.

i'm finishing my current leosagi fic and i already have ideas for the next one, but idk if i should other transfem leo or try cis leo

since it's 2012 iteration there's almost zero leosagi content, so either way it'll be a win

I dont mind at all! Disclaimer, this is an MM! Leosagi post and how I personally view their relationship in this iteration. I think I got a little too sappy with this HSGSJS

1. Do they like late night talks?

Yes. They love love late night talks! Sometimes one of them will get up late in the night to get a cup of water or something, and his boyfriend will also be up, just sitting and contemplating through the littlest of things. Sometimes they will just stay there together. Other times, they will sneak out and stargaze together, and have conversations about whatever crosses their mind. They're the type of couple to say “that star looks pretty tonight” while staring directly at the other.

2. Are they thinking about starting a family together?

I can definitely see them starting one when they're adults. Usagi having thoughts of adoption and batting his pretty little lashes at Leo, asking if he'd ever want that for them. I think in general Leo would definitely want a family in the future and maybe he'd see a kid in an orphanage somewhere he really wanted to be his own? Cue his brothers visiting the kids and completely trashing the house while they're out on a date or something.

5. What do they like to do in their free time?

When Usagi's in Leo's dimension, Leo teaches him what the hell a gaming console is, along with what the hell is Roblox/Minecraft. Usagi is confused at first but he becomes enamoured with what the turtles call gaming. They like to do a lot of things together, but I can't stop thinking about Leosagi gaming and Usagi ragequitting with an amount of anger he never knew he possessed before.

8. Do they like look at the other sleeping?

Perhaps.

Sometimes Usagi will wake up and check to see if Leo is still there. Sometimes Usagi places a gentle hand on his face and caress him, before smiling softly and going back to bed. Sometimes Leo gets up before Usagi and waits for him to wake up, listening as the samurai snores softly. In the mean time, he will admire how pretty his boyfriend is.

17. What do they get up to on a late night?

Sometimes they'll walk around together. Sometimes they'll stargaze together, as I said before. Sometimes they'll just train together and admire each other's skills, Leo especially. If they're going out on dates on a late night, I see them just doing typical couple things like yk going out to eat at a diner. The waitress knows about Leo and his brothers but they've never seen this bunny 'mutant' before and apparently he's the turtle boys boyfriend??? Ok whatever don't get paid enough for this shit anyway. Your burgers will be ready soon.
