idt we talk enough about how a song of ice and fire is also the song of incest and cannibalism. i mean, sure, obviously both of those subjects are noted as present, but the saga feels much more known for its incest, which idt is fair or accurate to the later materiel. iirc, jaime fucking cersei next to their dead firstborn is the last instance of onpage incest happening in present tl, and after that it's all about the cannibals, baby.
in fact pretty much all the active incest during the present tl happens in those first 3 books:
the twincest as a major plot point ofc, kicking action off when bran saw them fucking in a tower
and viserys creeping on dany and twisting her nipple
craster still being alive to rape and impregnate his own daughters (resulting in dozens of forced incestuous relationships)
and theon unknowingly groping his own sister while she (knowingly) groped him in return
jaime's early pov recalled how he shut up cersei with kissing when they fought after bran refused to die
the aforementioned sept twincest next to joffrey's corpse
cersei's failed attempt to seduce jaime in wst, pulling out his dick for either a bj or hj until her talk of tyrion's death made him lose his boner
while incest is not exactly absent from the text after that, it seems to exist in the feastdance only in hypotheticals or past memories:
aeron's trauma flashbacks of his (implied only in published text) csa by euron
jaime still feeling lust when seeing cersei nude
and her fond reminiscing about them fucking behind robert's back/brief dream of them as a married couple before her walk of shame
jaime's recollection of them fucking at darry next to robert as he was passed out drunk before cersei sent him to hunt arya (which would have happened back in agot and the point of this scene is more his failed hunt for a child just to make cersei happy)
the aborted marital match of aegon/young griff to his purported aunt dany
illyrio saying (the now dead) viserys tried to rape dany the night before her wedding to drogo (another event from agot concerning a guy we already knew was into incest)
and tyrion once saying he wanted to rape as well as murder cersei
conversely, the cannibalism in the earlier books is most often only unproven hypotheticals alluded to as possible cannibalism:
old nan saying the others fed their dead servants the flesh of human children (which we have not yet seen with any wights so far, whether or not one counts walking undead eating human flesh as straight-up cannibalism)
the mystery meat in flea bottom's bowls o' brown which may or may not contain symon silver tongue after tyrion had him killed
renly's recollection that cressen kept stannis from catapulting their old master-at-arms by saying they may need to eat him later (which did not come to pass thanks to davos)
joffrey telling his people to eat their own dead (with no way of knowing if any actually did)
lady hornwood eating her own fingers (though bran's pov only notes them being chewed on, not swallowed. it's only in adwd that people talk of her eating the fingers.)
the mentions of the ice river clans being the cannibals beyond the wall (who are def not among the free folk jon snow gets to know onpage, making it just background detail)
bran's (possibly mythical) story of the rat cook
and biter chewing on people he attacked and other corpses (which seems to be just a side hobby connected to his killing method moreso constituting a snack than a full meal from a person butchered for meat. this tendancy of his is just background detail in acok, with biter chewing a corpse in the background after the weasel soup operation, and the hindsight implication that it could well have been him rather than dogs or wolves who had "been at" the corpses after the skirmish where yoren was killed)
while the feastdance feels much more in your face with cannibalism, having not only more total mentions of the practice but also more actual cannibalism (as opposed to the ambiguity of each and every bowl o' brown), for those who know how to look at the evidence:
jaime learned that his father's mad dog aka the mountain fed parts of vargo hoat to all his prisoners (including vargo himself) after recapturing harrenhal
and euron bragged about pulling a similar trick with the warlocks he captured (the only twist being that the warlocks knew what they were being forced to eat, which vargo hoat and wylis manderly etc at harrenhal likely didn't)
the elder brother of the quiet isle told of biter eating all of a woman's breasts at saltpans after she'd been raped and killed (prob the largest amount of flesh biter's confirmed to have eaten from one corpse)
bran and co. ate "pig" supplied by coldhands which had to be long pig aka human meat
brienne felt her face being eaten by biter in her own pov (which is so much worse than him chewing others in the background of the weasel soup scene)
theon was told that two ironmen at moat cailin were found eating their dead comrades
the astapori were said to eat their own dead while under siege by the yunkishmen
and then were said to do so again in refugee camps outside meereen
khrazz the pit fighter cut the hearts from his defeated foes to eat them
cotter pyke's last letter to jon snow said the wildlings were eating their own dead at hardhome
4 of stannis's men were executed by burning for butchering and eating other men (with asha wondering how many others had done so without being caught)
and ofc the frey pies with wyman manderly having his 3 former guests killed and serving their meat to their own kin and the other guests at ramsay's wedding while eating some himself too
two of these examples (involving gregor clegane and euron greyjoy) must have actually happened during the course of asos, but grrm chose to give us the gruesome details in affc, which was brand new information about men we already knew were villains but did not know were into that fucked-up shit specifically, unlike being reminded that agot-era jaime and viserys wanted to fuck their sisters. (and not unlike how adwd has the clarification of multiple characters saying lady hornwood ate her own fingers as opposed to bran's acok pov just saying she chewed on them.) it's as if after craster was killed and jc effectively broke up grrm decided cannibalism was the taboo subject matter he would fill the later books with, so we'd really feel the increasing danger of starvation-induced cannibalism with winter's arrival (and have no trouble believing rickon's new home of skagos really is a cannibal island). however, in-universe it feels like there's some sort of environmental balance connection so that the decrease in one formerly common behaviorial abomination just allows another such abomination to fill in the gap with a sharp increase in activity, like deer overpopulation resulting from lack of predators as if all the active incest somehow stopped more people from eating themselves or other people.

I saw your recent Edmund fic and I’m obsessed!
Could you do one where Edmund gets super jealous/overprotective with reader? I love possessive Edmund!
mine all mine
the four times in which edmund discovers that he is overprotective of his wife, and the one time she proves to him she can take care of herself
PAIRING: edmund pevensie x wife!reader
WARNINGS: fluff, overprotective nature, sword fighting, typical Narnia violence, fluff ending
WORD COUNT: 3.8k
AN: This is set during the Golden Age, so all of them are adults!! also your title is fair, as in an adjective for just, not at all a description of what the reader looks like!!
part two (mine, all mine, all mine)
one.
He hadn’t meant to listen in to his wife’s meeting, really. But when he noticed Lord Eluna raising his voice, he couldn’t help but linger outside of the door, his hand on his sword's hilt. Y/N’s constantly calm voice interrupted the seething lord. “While I understand the importance of this situation, it does not warrant you to act poorly towards your queen, Lord Eluna.”
The man scoffed. “By marriage. A marriage which could be easily annulled, seeing as you have not produced his grace any heirs.”
Y/N laughed, seemingly not phased by his comment. “We are not in desperate need of any heirs, my lord. If you haven’t noticed, we have a plethora of rulers. Unless you are planning something that would warrant the need of heirs.” She paused, and Edmund could only assume the look on her face, the one she typically made when she was proving him wrong. "Are you?"
“How dare you insinuate-”
Edmund forced down a laugh, barging into the room. “My lords.”
The table of twelve men stood, bowing to their superior. Half hearted Your Grace’s’ were thrown Edmund’s way, but he could not care less. He looked at the man who was still glaring daggers at his wife. “Lord Eluna.”
“Your Grace.” He tore his eyes from the young queen. “We were just-”
“Yes.” Edmund raised an eyebrow, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I heard. And while I appreciate your obviously kind and thoughtful concern, my wife and I do not need your advice on that particular matter.”
Y/N turned bright red, widening her eyes when all the lord's jaws dropped. “Edmund-”
“I’m sure whatever you were meeting about can be postponed.” Edmund looked around the table, waiting for an answer. “Well?” The lords clambered, nodding quickly in agreement. He smirked and walked over to his wife, holding out his arm for her to hold. “My love.”
She rolled her eyes but still hooked her arm through his. “You are quite dramatic.”
He laughed, ignoring the prying eyes around them. “I haven’t the faintest idea what you mean.” The couple walked out the doors, giggling when they knew the lords could no longer hear them. Edmund frowned, rubbing her arm comfortingly. “Do they always treat you so horribly?”
“You cannot keep doing this, Ed.” She sighed.
“What am I do-”
She glared at him. “You know what you’re doing. They will never learn to respect me if you keep coming to my defense.”
“It’s been two years. They should have respected you the minute I married you. Actually-” He scoffed. “They should respect you because it’s the right thing to do.”
They walked into their chambers, collapsing onto the bed. Edmund wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her in as she traced shapes into his chest. “You're a gallant and honorable man, Edmund, much more than your lords. But you know as well as I that those old malcontents will never respect me until I give them a reason to.”
“I wish it wasn’t so.” He leaned down, kissing her temple. “You are a much better leader than me.”
She scoffed, leaning into his touch. “Not true.”
“Yes.” He nodded, staring at the ceiling. “You are.”
“If I am..." She appeased him. "It is only because I’ve watched you and your siblings rule with kindness and justice for so long. Please do not put yourself down for my sake.” She stretched up, kissing him gently. “Never put yourself down; you are too perfect for that.”
“If you insist.” He smiled, feeling lovesick. How could he not? The most beautiful woman in all of Narnia, or, more accurately, the universe, lay beside him.
Of course, he felt lovesick.
two.
“Happy Birthday, my love.” Y/N smiled mischievously at her husband. “How old are you now? Eighty?”
He glared, kissing her cheek softly. “What a charmer you are.”
She nodded and took a deep breath, straightening her dress as they prepared to enter the ballroom. “Well, you didn’t marry me for my baking skills.”
He rolled his eyes. “Your baking skills are perfectly adequate.”
She scoffed, looking up at him once more. “Don’t lie to me, Edmund Pevensie.” She fought the smile that threatened to break her act. “You flatter me too much, I think.”
He felt the overwhelming urge to kiss her senselessly. He had that urge constantly, but it was especially difficult at that moment. “You are a true beauty. Have I told you?”
She blushed, turning her face back towards the grand doors. “Behave.”
He nodded, still looking at her in awe, enjoying the way her flushed cheeks complemented her dress. He had always loved her in the color blue. “Yes, ma’am.”
The ushers opened the doors, and they stepped forward. “King Edmund the Just, and Queen Y/N the Fair.”
The room exploded into applause for the Just King, and the pair descended the stairs, focusing on not falling in front of all their subjects. Peter, Susan, and Lucy sat on their thrones at the bottom, smiling brightly. Lucy gestured toward the Maestro, and Edmund led his wife to the middle of the ballroom. “I do wonder what they'll play.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow. “What did you do?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
Y/N's smile grew as their wedding waltz’s familiar intro echoed through the hall. “This isn’t fair.”
He laughed at the irony. “Why not, my love?”
“It is your birthday, not our anniversary.”
He spun her around the room, whispering. “I happen to like this song.”
“Edmund…” She blushed again. “You should have chosen a song that you love.”
“I did.” The waltz ended, and he bowed. “It reminds me of you; why wouldn’t I love it?”
Her eyes were watering, and he suddenly felt horrible, his stomach twisting. “I’m sorry, did I-”
She leaped up, kissing him soundly. The crowd gasped, but Edmund didn’t care. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. She leaned back, their foreheads touching. “I don’t deserve you.”
His heart felt full. “Quite the opposite, really.” He kissed her once more, nuzzling his nose with hers. “I love you.”
Lucy clapped her hands, pulling the crowd's attention away from the happy couple. “Thank you all so much for attending my brother’s 24th birthday ball!” The room erupted into cheers. Lucy smiled. “Help yourselves to the buffet, or take to the dance floor. Happy Birthday, dear brother.”
The crowd dispersed, and the pair walked up to the thrones, sitting beside each other, still holding hands. Peter muttered, smirking. “Couldn’t have waited until later?”
Edmund rolled his eyes. “Just because you don’t have a love li-”
Y/N scolded her husband. “Ed.”
Peter glared playfully at his brother. “My love life is none of your business, thank you very much.”
Susan laughed. “How is she?”
Peter blushed. “She has a name.” He straightened his posture, looking out into the crowd for who Y/N could only assume they were talking about. “As perfect as ever.”
Lucy giggled. “Have you tried talking to her?”
Peter closed his eyes, leaning his head back against his throne. “I am getting attacked from all sides, it seems.”
Y/N smiled. “I think it’s sweet. You seem very in love.” He smiled back, looking longingly at the buffet table, where a gorgeous maid stood handing out desserts. Y/N nudged him lightly. “You could ask her to dance.”
He laughed, and when he realized his sister in law was not laughing, stopped. “I fear she would not like the fuss.”
“Ah.” Y/N looked over at the girl again. “I will be right back.”
Edmund whined. “Where are you off to?”
“None of your business, Edmund.” She kissed his cheek quickly. “Do have fun at your own birthday party.”
He sighed as she walked away. “How can I when you’re leaving?”
The fair queen glided across the floor with the intention of making conversation with the girl the High King was infatuated with. She had almost reached Peter's love when a hand wrapped around her waist. She gasped, pulling herself out of the stranger’s hold. The visibly drunk lord bowed teasingly. “My Lady, would you care-” A hiccup interrupted his question. “Would you care to dance?”
She smiled politely. “I’m afraid my card is full for the night. But thank you for the offer.”
The man tried to speak again, but she turned around, walking back towards the maid.
Edmund had seen the entire interaction, gripping the handles of his throne tight enough to break the solid stone. Peter whispered. “Edmund, don’t do anything rash-”
“He just-”
Peter gave him the stare, that older brother stare that he tried to reserve for hard moments. “He will be dealt with, trust me, but you need to be subtle-”
Edmund stood up, stalking over to the drunken lord. Peter sighed once more. "He will be the first to give me gray hairs.”
Susan rolled her eyes. “You are twenty-seven, Peter. You’re not graying anytime soon.”
Edmund grabbed the lord’s arm, dragging him out to the balcony. “A nice night, isn’t it?”
The lord was in shock, nodding. “Yes, Your Grace.” He grinned. “It is truly an honor to have been invited to your-”
“It was a nice night.” The young king smiled condescendingly. “Until you harassed my wife.”
“I-” The old man stuttered. “I meant no disrespect.”
“Don’t lie to your king.” Edmund seethed. “If you ever do that again, I will rue the day, believe me.” He took a deep breath. “You will apologize to my wife, and after that, you will leave immediately. You are fortunate that I don’t ensure you are barred from the castle grounds.”
The lord looked upset. Good, Edmund thought, serves him right. “But Your Grace-”
“Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes.” The old man nodded. “Yes, Your Grace.” He stumbled back into the ballroom, making a beeline for Y/N. Edmund watched from afar, smiling as she smiled, actually genuinely smiled. Then he frowned when she let him kiss her hand. Oh, how he wanted to have him banished.
Y/N made her way to the balcony, shaking her head at her proud husband. “What have you done?”
“Nothing. Why do you assume-”
“Edmund.” She crossed her arms. “You must stop.”
“What?” He laughed. “Stop protecting you?”
“Yes!” She yelled, exasperated from his constant watching eye. “I had it handled.”
“He harassed you.”
“Thank you Edmund.” Her voice dripped with sarcasm, something Edmund did not appreciate at the moment. “I wasn’t aware.”
“My love.” He stepped forward, taking her hands in his. “As long as there is air in my lungs, I will protect you. It pains me to see you go through these things.”
She smiled, placing a hand on his cheek. “You are a good man, Edmund.”
He closed his eyes, leaning into her touch. “You shouldn’t have to deal with that.”
“You’re right, I shouldn’t. But if we make a fuss about every lord who gets handsy while they’re drunk, the ballroom will be empty.”
He rolled his eyes. “Good. Get rid of the whole lot of them. I would rather it just be you and I anyhow.”
Y/N gasped, smacking his chest lightly. “Edmund!”
“No one should have to deal with that.”
“Well, I agree. But you can’t-”
“Good.” He nodded, ignoring the fact that he just interrupted her. “Who were you talking to after that incident?”
“Peter’s love.” She smiled. “That girl is quite kind. Spirited, too.”
Edmund laughed, pulling Y/N in. “Perfect for Peter then.”
She hummed, leaning her head on his chest as they looked back into the ballroom. “Perfect for Peter.”
three.
It had been Edmund’s idea to go on an afternoon ride. Y/N had reminded him of the recent attacks that they were investigating, but he’d ignored her. Their horses galloped through the fall woods, leaves falling as they flew through. Phillip muttered. “Her horse is much younger than me, no wonder she keeps beating me.”
Y/N’s horse, Vilja, laughed. “Perhaps you are simply slow, Phillip.”
Y/N fought against the laugh that threatened to spill out. “Now Vilja, play nice. Remember, Phillip has to hold Edmund and his ego.”
Edmund scoffed, shoving his wife playfully as they slowed. “What happened to playing nice?”
They tied the horses beside each other, walking through the woods leisurely. “It is perfect outside, is it not?”
Y/N nodded, leaning her head on her husband’s shoulder. “It is.” She smiled as the lantern came into view. “It’s been too long.”
Edmund hummed. “We’re happy here.” He looked down, his heart beating fast. “You would tell me if you weren't happy, I hope.”
“Of course, Edmund.” She smiled. “I'm very happy here. I only meant we’ve been here for a long time. After all, it has been thirteen years.” She looked back at the lantern, pulling Edmund along with her. “I wonder how long it’s been there.”
He laughed, kissing her temple gently. “Who cares?”
“Edmund…” She leaned into his touch. Feeling mischievous, she pulled out of his hold, sprinting further into the woods.
Edmund groaned, chasing after her. “This was funnier the first time.”
The nymphs giggled as they watched the couple run through the woods. Edmund spun in the clearing, squinting as he tried to find his wife. “Y/N, you know I’ll find-” A piercing scream broke the joyful nature of their fun, and his heart sank. “Y/N?” He waited for her response, another scream echoing through the forest. He ran towards her, unsheathing his sword. “Y/N!” He broke through the woods, finding his wife backed against a tree, a wolf growling in front of her. Edmund stood in between them, pointing the sword at the wolf’s head. “We don’t want to harm you.”
The wolf simply growled. Odd. Edmund whispered. “Stay still, my love.” He stepped forward, addressing the wolf once more. “You have one more chance to leave us. We won’t harm you if you do so, you have my word.”
The wolf leaned back, lunging at Edmund, and he slashed his sword, killing the animal in a single blow. Y/N stood silent behind him, staring at the ground. “I thought all animals spoke in Narnia.”
“So did I.” Edmund knelt beside it, checking for any witchcraft of any sort.
Y/N smiled sympathetically, kneeling beside him. “She’s gone.”
“He was wild. There had to have been-” Edmund was silenced by a gentle kiss. He blushed. “What was that-” She kissed him once more, smiling.
“Edmund, she is gone. For good. And you saved me.” She mumbled. “Even though I could have reached for my sword-”
He rolled his eyes, standing up and extending his hand. “Let me guess? You had it handled?”
four.
She was radiant in that blue dress, Edmund observed from afar. After he had expressed his love of her in the color, she had ensured that almost all her dresses were that light blue. The rest of her dresses were her favorite color, which Edmund loved on her almost as much.
Unfortunately, others enjoyed looking at his wife as well. Lately, in Edmund’s opinion, her sworn guard had been looking at her for much too long. He was a conventionally attractive man, Edmund could admit, but he didn’t like that the young knight was looking at his wife the way Edmund himself looked at her.
He hadn’t brought it up to Y/N, not wanting to be called overprotective for the hundredth time. So he watched from afar, making sure that the knight didn’t make any untoward actions towards her.
They were currently in the garden, and Y/N was smelling the flowers, laughing and making polite conversation with Ser Ellington. The young man laughed back, reaching out to stable her when she stumbled over a root. Edmund clenched his jaw, forcing himself to remain calm.
It was his job after all, to make sure his queen was safe.
But when he reached out and grabbed a flower, extending it to the kind woman, Edmund snapped. That was not his job. He practically stalked forward, interrupting whatever conversation the two had been having. “My love.” He called out. “You look radiant.”
She blushed. “Edmund, I thought you had your meeting.”
He nodded. “I did, but we finished early, I thought I would accompany you for the rest of the day.”
“Of course.” She looked over Edmund’s shoulder at Ser Ellington. “You are excused for the day. Thank you, Ser.”
The knight bowed. “My Queen. Your Grace.”
Edmund watched suspiciously as the young knight walked away, only turning back to his wife when he turned the corner. Y/N smirked, tilting her head just so. “You have no need to be jealous, my love.” She turned back to the flowers, smelling them.
Edmund smiled guiltily, following after her like a puppy. “Can you blame me? Ser Ellington is not exactly unappealing.”
She nodded, still not looking back at him. “He is. But I am not married to him, nor do I sleep in the same bed as him every night.” Edmund turned bright red. “Am I wrong?”
“You are not, but you have to understand. You’re a beautiful woman, I can’t help but worry that someone will steal you away.”
She rolled her eyes, turning around. “Do you really think I would hurt you so?”
“No-”
“What have I done to make you assume so? I love you; I made a vow to you.” She crossed her arms. “Am I just a prize to you that you desperately need to cling to?”
“Of course not.” He grabbed her hands in his. “I’m madly in love with you, and the thought of you leaving me, the simple thought…” He pulled her closer, whispering. “Drives me mad.”
“Edmund.” She glared, pulling out of his hold. “You are exaggerating.”
He grabbed her wrist, pulling her gently back to him. “Do you really think I do not love you?”
“I never said that.”
He laughed. “You act as if we were not a love match. Like we didn’t discover Narnia together. I love you; I think I have since we were young.” He kissed the back of her hand delicately. “I know that I am too overprotective, and I am sorry for that…”
She smirked with satisfaction. “Good.”
“But can you blame me? You are a treasure, surely any other man would act that same way.”
Y/N nodded. “Perhaps. But you are not any other man. You are Edmund Pevensie, and I know you know deep down that I can handle myself. I do not need you to watch over me like a mother hen.” She raised an eyebrow. “I also fought the White Witch, I also helped you form peace treaties, I also-”
Y/N stopped, becoming more irritable by the second when she realized Edmund wasn’t listening. He stared at her so lovingly it made her sick, and she scoffed. “I am going to the library.”
He nodded, following after. “I shall accompany you.”
She shook her head. “I would like to go alone.”
He frowned. “Are you-”
“Edmund, please.” She sighed. “I love you, but I need to be alone with my thoughts.” Without a second glance, she walked out of the garden, leaving Edmund helplessly staring at her.
the time she proved him wrong
They had been gone for too long, Y/N thought as she stared at the woods. They had been gone for hours longer than they said they would. She should have gone with them; who knows where they were, where Edmund was.
She tried to calm herself down and reminded herself that neither Edmund nor his siblings would leave her in Narnia alone, but it was difficult when all of the hunt’s participants were speaking to her at once.
“Where are they?” Lord Eluna’s voice sounded over the rest. She tried not to glare at him; she could tell the man was enjoying the sight of her under pressure.
“I understand everyone’s worries; I have them myself, but we all know that the Kings and Queens would never leave their subjects so suddenly. Have no doubt that they will return. I am certain High King Peter and King Edmund dragged their sisters along a trail of the deer’s tracks.” Light laughter echoed through the crowd, relieving her stress slightly. Her stomach fluttered, and she pressed a hand to it, rubbing it slightly. “Does anyone else have any immediate causes for concern?”
The crowd erupted into chaos once more, and she took a deep breath, clearing her throat. “I will take meetings with all of you individually in the main tent.”
meanwhile...
Edmund sighed, staring at his older brother as he tried to convince himself the deer was nearby. “Peter, we’ve been gone for hours. If we haven’t found the deer by now, who’s to say we’ll find it later?” He practically pleaded. “We should return to camp.”
Peter rolled his eyes. “Just because you want to get back to your wife-”
“Peter, Edmund’s right.” Susan interrupted. “This deer isn’t important, and Y/N is there alone with the entirety of the court.” She frowned. “If it were me, I would be rather overwhelmed.”
Edmund fell into his thoughts, staring at the ground. Lucy whispered, nudging her brother lightly. “Edmund, don’t-”
Edmund tightened the reigns on Phillip, racing back towards the camp. Peter sighed, riding not far behind him. The dark-haired king didn’t look back; his only thought was that he had left Y/N alone with the egotistical lords of the realm. Phillip slowed, and Edmund jumped off, running towards camp.
Everything was fine, almost too fine. It was quiet, with a slight buzz of chatter but no worried voices. He stalked toward the main tent, whipping it open.
There sat his radiant wife, talking calmly with Lord Dolitmov. The older man saw Edmund and immediately stood, bowing. “Your Grace.” He looked back to Y/N, kissing the back of the queen’s hand gently. “Your Grace.”
Y/N smiled, waving as he walked out of the tent. Edmund tilted his head, smiling. “What happened?”
She laughed. "The better question would be, what happened with you?” She hugged herself, rubbing her stomach once more. Edmund made a mental note to address that later. “You were gone for so long I assumed you had returned home.”
He shook his head, frowning as he realized how stressed she had been. “I’m sorry for the worry we caused you; I fear Peter was too fixated on finding the white steed.”
She nodded. “I wondered.”
He took her hand in his, rubbing the back with his thumb. “I’m sorry that I worried you. But I must say, it is rather calm here.”
She smirked. “I told you I can handle myself.”
He laughed. “I believe you. Truly I do.” he brought her hand to his mouth, kissing the back gently. “I love you.”
“And I you.” She walked into his arms, burying her head in his chest. “I would have died from heartbreak if you had left me.”
“I would never.” He kissed her temple. “You know that.”
She nodded. “I know you would never leave us.”
He nodded back. “Correct. I would never leave-” He paused, tilting his head. “Us?”
Y/N looked up sheepishly. “I-” Her eyes started to water. “I’m pregnant, Edmund.”
“What?” Edmund grinned, staring at his wife in disbelief. “Really?”
She nodded, and Edmund grabbed her waist, spinning her around the room. Y/N cackled, smacking his shoulder. “Put me down; you’re going to hurt the babe.”
“I’m sorry.” He smiled. “I can’t help it.”
She laughed, kissing his lips softly. “I love you.”
Edmund leaned down, kissing her soundly. “And I you.”

Danny moved to Gotham.
Freakshow is touring in Gotham.
Freakshow knows Danny is in Gotham.
Danny knows Freakshow is still after him.
Danny's faith in heroes has been shattered.
Danny turns to the only person powerful enough to run Freakshow out of town, hopefully for good.
Danny turns to the Joker for help.
The Joker is looking for a new punching bag sidekick after Harley Quinn left him.
Danny is just the perfect person to be shaped by the Joker's hands.
Danny becomes the new Joker Junior.

"Golden Deer is boring though it's lackluster, the characters aren't as strong as the other paths there's less conflict-"
You fool. You absolute buffon. Golden Deer is perfectly designed. Not only does it feed into the whole "alliance" theme well by having the characters still work together despite their differences and feelings well before hitting those A supports, but it's ALSO the only route that actually puts the focus on YOU the player. Or, rather, Byleth themself
Black Eagle is about whether or not you can agree to Edelgard's ideals of acceptable sacrifice and perspective that there's only 1 way to do things. The branching happens when you decide whether or not you agree, but ultimately it just explores opposing or agreeing with Edelgard. Anything more than that is really just incidental to that main concept, whether it's Crimson Flower or Silver Snow, the entire time you're focused either on helping Edelgard achieve her goals or you're focused on showing her how wrong she is alongside the Black Eagles who think it's their duty to correct Edelgard's wrongs (and I have a whole separate thing in regards to how the cast acts in Crimson Flower verses Silver Snow). It works really well for characters designed around an empire, a domineering form of government where (usually) a singular ruler determines the course and focus
Blue Lions is focused entirely on working on past issues and learning to bring yourself into the present, but it's done almost entirely through the cast more than the player. The Blue Lions themselves all have their own traumas and deep-seated past issues that hinder or help progress. While both Blue Lions and Black Eagles have a lot in common when it comes to traumatized characters and ideology, the ideology is front and center, while in Boue Lions, their interpersonal conflicts are front and center. This shows especially in the final (non romance) scene, where Dimitri decides that his personal attachment to Edelgard and past memories still matter, and he reaches out a hand, despite her immediately trying to kill him. It's fitting for a route designed around a kingdom, which is usually built entirely on interpersonal dealings between the ruling class
Golden Deer, however, is designed very differently. Unlike the other 3 routes, the player, or more specifically Byleth, is put as the driving force instead of the Lord. And this is actually what makes Golden Deer such a good route and one with the best ending of all of them. Claude has ideals, but he isn't a person who wants to force others to follow his path like Edelgard. Claude has lived a life of strife where his past motivates him, but it doesn't chain him the same way it does Dimitri. Instead, he works on understanding everyone around him and working together towards agreed upon goals, while taking on stuff that isn't agreed upon onto himself. But more than that, while all the Lord's value your opinion, Claude is the only one who actually takes what Byleth wants (rather than just what they think about specific matters) into consideration for his plans. Repeatedly you tell Seteth in Silver Snow that you don't want to kill Edelgard, but he pushes that you have no choice. Pretty much the entire first half of Azure Moon is Dimitri ignoring you. And in Crimson Flower, you've all but completely submitted to Edelgard's will with a couple of exceptions (which actually proves my point because it's specifically in regards to the Golden Deer because you can fight the entirety of Crimson Flower while sparing all of them except for Judith). But in Verdant Wind, Claude doesn't hide that he has a problem with the church and wants Rhea gone. In Golden Wildfire, without Byleth, he's more than happy to just get rid of her without a second thought. But when Byleth is the protagonist, he goes out of his way to accommodate your wants into his plans and goals. When you express as the player that you want to reason with Edelgard and ponder if you can't walk the same path, Claude agrees with you and says he'll make it happen if he can, with the other Golden Deer mostly agreeing. When that, can't happen you both lament the fact that Edelgard gave you no choice together. He makes finding Rhea a priority, mostly because as curious as he is in general, he wants to help you find out answers only Rhea can give you. And all of the Golden Deer do this to some extent, with each other but also with you as the player. I think Hilda and Marianne's A supports with Byleth show this best personally, but that's a personal opinion. And it just works so well for a route designed around the idea of an alliance, people coming together and agreeing to work towards a goal bigger than themselves
And that's not to say the other routes aren't as good as Golden Deer, they're all equally well written, but it just makes me sad when I see people giving the Golden Deer route grief just because the characters aren't the same when it does its theme so beautifully

One of my favourite things about The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is that CS Lewis very obviously knew that kids were going to go hunting in cupboards and wardrobes for Narnia because multiple times he very clearly states that the kids did not close the door behind them when they climbed in the wardrobe because that would be stupid and dangerous. He knew some kid would lock themselves in the closet and he obviously didn’t want to be responsible for that.

Fairy tale moment headcanons
Friendly reminder that English is not my first language. You can check my Masterlists both in English and Polish here. Consider supporting me on Ko-fi. You can also check out my commissions if you're interested.
Other headcanons from this series can be found here.
This part contains: Silver, Trey Clover and Leona Kingscholar.
Silver • Meeting in the forest
• Silver's fairy tale moment would be related to the forest. That's one of his favourite places to nap. Not everyone has the opportunity to wake up to the sounds of someone else's singing. Would it be the best voice in the world? No way. But it wasn't unpleasant either. He would follow one of the less-traveled paths, listening all the time.
• Who wouldn't recognize the Prefect of Ramshackle dorm? Even if he didn't know you personally back then, he knew who you were right away. Grim was dancing somewhere right next to you, singing even worse than you. This was one of the very popular pieces. He realized much later that you probably didn't know much songs, not being from this world.
• What surprised him most was that the animals didn't run away from you at all. Usually, any loud behaviour of others in the forest would immediately scare them away. Meanwhile, his bird friends danced around your head, teasing Grim. Deer and squirrels watched curiously, partially hidden in the bushes and trees. When the bunny and its family started chewing on his pants and pulling him towards you, he realized that you must be someone special.
• He doesn't know how it happened but he instinctively finished the line you started, stepping out of the shadows. Maybe it was because his father played in a band and filled his head with every popular song. He just let it slip. You looked embarrassed that someone had caught you. You kidnapped Grim and disappeared before he could say anything.
• He couldn't quite explain it but he felt like he'd met you before. Once upon a dream...
Trey Clover • Falling Card Soldiers
• Trey is quite a composed person. After all, he holds an important position in Heartslabyul. He is not in the habit of mindlessly running through the corridors. That can't be said about you...
• Of course he knew you. Since the beginning of your adventure, you had spent time with the first years in his dorm. Plus, you came to rescue him and his friends when Riddle's overblot happened. Therefore, the sight of you running around the NRC, whether to catch Grim or to deal with matters that the director despised, no longer surprised him at all. You were everywhere and always on the run.
• However, he did not expect that when going to a unbirthday party, he would get hit right in the chest. And with your mischievous, beautiful face on top of that. Riddle and Cater walked right next to him. That's why, when you, Ace, Deuce and Grim ran into them just behind a large rose bush, you couldn't slow down. You fell on top of each other like a giant sandwich. There were muffled screams, complaints and something about beheading everyone.
• He honestly wished he had time to enjoy the sight of your red face. He guessed you didn't expect such a meeting and closeness. However, he had to react, because the face of the prefect of Heartslabyul was equally red and he was already preparing a punishment for all those who came late, while trying to make it out of the pile of students.
• Trey rescued you from the situation, hiding you as quickly as he could before everyone else could recover. It isn't fair? Maybe a little but he really wanted to eat the new tart with you. How would he do it if you were punished?
Leona Kingscholar • Hakuna matata
• Leona wasn't really into the whole circle of life thing and stuff about his homeland. In Sunset Savanna, everyone just talked about nature and refused most innovations. However, he had to admit that he quite liked this one slogan, the hakuna matata one. What was he supposed to worry about? He knows how to plan and is smart, and he lives a pretty comfortable life on top of that. Living without care, that's life.
• So why couldn't his favourite herbivore understand this? You were always running somewhere, dealing with dozens of different matters, often not even your own. That's why he had to explain it to you clearly one day. By explain he meant that you stay in his room and don't go anywhere. Time to relax. Ruggie prepared food and blankets for you so you both could have a movie marathon.
• He listened to your concerns before the movie. Suddenly you remembered a million things you still needed to do. Homework, delivering photos to the principal, buying food for Grim... Leona covered you with a blanket and wrapped you up like a giant burrito. He told you to write down all these things and promised that they would be done by tomorrow (actually, Ruggie would make sure they were done but he was willing to make extra money...).
• You managed to shed some responsibility for the evening and had a really good time. Hakuna matata!

ya ever think about how the lannister sibs all have big secrets kept from each other, like huge life-altering experiences? jaime's is the most obvious, the most talked-about, with the full story of his kingslaying and everything he endured from aerys leading up to it. it's clear enough to me that brienne was the first he opened up to about that, including either sibling. they never asked, but unlike ned stark and the rest deriding him as kingslayer, their lack of curiosity is no offense in itself bc as tywin's other children they would never judge him for turning his cloak purely out of family loyalty. ned's assumption of jaime's motives is directly tied to his judgment of jaime, but it's the judgment that rankles jaime so. choosing your father's life over a king's is hardly the worst crime in itself. how can he explain all the other reasons without prompting when its not just about his crime but all his trauma too? is there any basis for that in his relationship with cersei, who always relied on him for comfort and consolation but seems less adept at providing the same to him? or even with tyrion, his only real male friend for years, but also his baby brother, the one he was meant to protect and take care of, who was only 10 at the time of the kingslaying? even to fully share all with tyrion years later, both adults, could be something of a role reversal, forever shattering tyrion's image of him as the strong invulnerable golden big brother by revealing his own broken inner child. jaime can't break out from those sibling roles and patterns, so neither can ever understand that part of him, never knowing the early life he had at court without either of them with him.
and tyrion, who trusted jaime more than anyone in the world before learning the truth about tysha, still could not confide in him freely even when all that trust was still intact. jaime must have heard some story of what tywin did to tysha to feel the need to confess his lie, but he def didn't hear it straight from tyrion bc imo there's no way he could still think confessing would help anything if he understood how scarred tyrion was by what he witnessed and esp not knowing that tywin ordered him to participate at the end. tyrion could reveal all that to bronn when they barely knew each other but not to his beloved brother, his first and best friend. how can the most abused child explain all his unknown abuse to the golden child, the big brother meant to protect him who couldn't always do so? how does he even begin to reveal the deepest trauma that happened to him when jaime wasn't in the room, esp when the story does start with jaime apparently trying to help him by fixing him up with tysha?
and then there's cersei and all her secrets. she always turned to jaime for consolation, or at least when he knew she needed it, but how many times did he not know? how personally could she confide in him as they grew older and their paths diverged? we know the first big secret was maggy the frog's prophecy, her first big scare, which came on the cusp of puberty, an experience she couldn't share with her twin bc he would prob just laugh and make a joke of it. in their first real scene together, in bran's pov, he mocks lysa's motherly fears and likens her to cersei. ("I think birthing does something to your minds. You are all mad." He laughed.) then he makes light of her marital discord, ("And whose fault is that, sweet sister?"), having no idea of the depth of pain she'd suffered from robert, beyond his infidelities. he later blames her for being robert's queen, not his, only thinking of how she managed to arrange his kg post, that power to forever tie him to her in secret, never grasping her lack of control in marriage, that "a queen is only a woman after all". in her pride it was hard to reveal all she'd suffered as a woman, but she also couldn't rely on jaime's response if he knew of her abuse, knowing he would kill robert and get himself killed too, only making her and their children's lives more precarious. she couldn't trust him to listen about securing the throne before dealing with robert or that as robert's victim it was her right to decide such matters, to choose his fate, not jaime's place to avenge her without her say-so first. all bc they were both too stuck in their idea of jaime as her sword, nothing more, with jaime determined to protect her and tyrion, always a bodyguard before he ever donned a white cloak.
something something tywin did his best to play his children off each other and the most effective thing he did to divide them was by setting jaime up as the golden child and family protector. the designated lannister sword only pointing at threats outside their house. a knight serving his family whose protection was always limited, who could never protect them from the person who first hurt cersei and tyrion and made them who they were at a distance from him, bc ofc he couldn't fight his own father, much less slay him with a sword.
something something maybe the reason that joff+marg+loras was a surer recipe for kingslayer stew than robert+cersei+jaime is all down to that tyrell lack of abusive structure. not that loras cared more about marg, was more willing to kill for her than jaime was to kill robert, but that there wasn't a chance of marg hiding her misery from him if/when her husband abused her in their shared household. it's not like he understood her to the point of mind-reading but when their previous royal marital household involved her bearding for his boyfriend then they prob had a pretty good basis of open communication. in that sense, the lannicest twins with all their sexual and physical intimacy still had less emotional intimacy than the tyrell queen and her kg brother.
#valyrianscrolls#asoiaf meta#jaime lannister#tyrion lannister#cersei lannister#tywin lannister#asoiaf#pride of lions#happy murderous meowmeow monday#who else would save him if not his brother?#golden days and silver nights#margaery tyrell#loras tyrell#some roses have steel thorns#(c)lsb#like i have seen someone wonder if jaime held it against his sibs for not asking more about the kingslaying#when tyrion was literally 10yso may as well ask why the starklings didnt ask ned abt the rebellion and lyanna's death#when your older war vet relative doesnt volunteer info you try not to pry#and we need to talk more abt all jam didnt know abt cers besides her post-robert affairs

mine, all mine, all mine
four times in which edmund is an overly cautious father
PAIRING: edmund pevensie x wife!reader, edmund pevensie x oc!children
WARNINGS: fluff, overprotective nature, sword fighting, fluff ending
WORD COUNT: 2.2k
AN: This is set during the Golden Age, so all of them are adults!! also your title is fair, as in an adjective for just, not at all a description of what the reader looks like!! your children's names are caroline and stephen!!
one.
“Edmund!” A frantic voice called out through the west wing of Cair Paravel. “Edmund, come quickly!”
The just king’s heart sank. He raced down the hall, pushing past lords, ladies, and servants alike to get to his wife. She was rather far along, he told himself. Perhaps she had gone into labor early… The very thought filled him with fear. Their rooms were in the east wing, completely across the vast castle.
He wouldn’t want her to deliver in a place she was not familiar with, but unless she wanted to walk across the castle…
He burst through the doors, ready for anything.
Anything except his very pregnant wife laughing at their eldest, who had ripped their rather expensive curtains and turned them into a tunic of some sort. The girl was merely five, but as his wife said, very conscious of her fashion choices.
Edmund tried not to glare at the fair queen, walking beside her and placing a gentle hand on her stomach. “How is the babe?”
“Fine.” She waved him off, kissing his cheek quickly as she watched their daughter.
He smiled, watching her grin widen. “And you? How are you?”
“Fine, Edmund. I’m fine,” She rubbed her stomach, grabbing his hand in hers. “He’s fine. We’re all fine.” Her eyebrows contorted with a sort of concern and humor. “Did you run here? I hope I didn’t worry-”
He shook his head, kissing her lips lightly. “How do you know it will be a boy?”
“A mother always knows.” She smirked. “Just like I knew the last time.”
Edmund rolled his eyes, turning back to their daughter. “Peter will be furious.”
“At you perhaps,” Y/N murmured. “Your brother adores Caroline. He will find it hilarious.”
“Caroline,” Edmund called out, distracting their daughter. “Come here, my love.”
The small girl raced over, attaching herself to her father’s leg. “Papa!”
He lifted his leg, groaning. “You are quite strong. Tell me, how did you rip the curtain?”
The child giggled. “I cut it.”
Edmund looked up at his wife slowly, who was hiding her laughter behind her hand. “Really?”
Y/N nodded. “I got caught in the hall talking to Lord Dilitmov and she ran off.” Gesturing towards their very attentive daughter, she laughed again. “This is how I found her.”
Edmund couldn’t help it anymore, laughing along with her. “You are quite the mischievous child.” He shook his head, walking out of the room with his wife’s arm through his and his daughter attached to his leg. “I wonder where you get it from.”
Caroline giggled. “You, Papa!”
Edmund scoffed, shaking his head as they (slowly) walked down the hall. “Nonsense. You get that trait from your mother.”
Y/N raised her eyebrow. “I thought we established we were not to lie to our children, Edmund.”
Caroline nodded, batting her eyelashes. “Are you lying, Papa?”
Edmund sighed. “You two…”
two.
“But Father-”
“No!” Edmund snapped, staring at his children from his throne. It had been the middle of his weekly audience with the people of Narnia, and his children had burst in, interrupting for thirty minutes. He had explicitly told them to only interrupt if it was an emergency. While he loved his children greatly, his people needed his time, and they could not interrupt just because the wished to.
Apparently that message had not stuck.
“Edmund…” Y/N leaned over, whispering in her husband’s ear. “You know what I’m going to say.”
He shook his head. “My love, that is completely out of the question. It is too dangerous-”
She rose an eyebrow, halting him in his tracks. “Did we or did we not go into the Narnian woods alone when we were merely 11?”
“That-”
“Did we or did we not?”
He sighed. “We did-”
“Exactly.”
“But…” His children groaned. “We had no idea of the danger that lay in wait. That the entire world was in.” He grabbed his wife's hand, kissing the back gently. “What if she comes back? What if there are assassins or-”
“Edmund, she has been gone for twenty eight years. And since when have there been assassins? They will be perfectly safe.” Y/N kissed the back of his hand in return. “Trust me.”
“Please father?” His son pleaded. “Caroline has wanted to show me-” The elder girl elbowed her brother, effectively cutting him off. “I meant, Caroline heard of a-”
Edmund waved his hand. “Caroline, I expect you to watch over your brother.” He sat straight in his throne. “You may be eleven, Stephen, but you are my son, and I do not want you or your sister going into the Woods without telling us. Ever again.” He looked over at his daughter. “Don’t think General Oreius hasn’t been keeping me updated on your little excursions.”
Caroline groaned. “Papa, I am sixteen, surely you believe I am capable of handling myself.”
“Your father loves you my dear.” Y/N smiled. “You are an independent and strong young lady, but you are still a princess-”
“Of Narnia, yes I know. I am constantly reminded.” Caroline crossed her arms. “May we please be excused?”
Edmund nodded. “Be safe, please. For my sake.”
As soon as they had left the throne room, Edmund gestured for a guard to approach. “Send a scout after them, ensure they are not harmed.”
The guard nodded, walking away before the fair queen called after him. “Make sure you are not seen.” Edmund tilted his head, and she sighed. “We can’t let them think we don’t trust them, Edmund.”
He groaned, leaning his head against the back of his throne. “Caroline despises me. I can see it as clear as day.”
Y/N laughed. “Oh my dear boy…”
Edmund shook his head, looking over at his radiant wife. “Not a boy. Not anymore.”
“You will always be a boy. That will never change.” She smiled. “Just as our daughter’s love will never change.”
“She used to love me, always following me around and attending meetings. Now she cannot be in the same room as me without disagreeing.”
“She is growing, Edmund. It is a confusing time for anyone, let alone a young princess with duties and responsibilities. She loves you, trust me.”
“Why did she have to grow so fast?” Edmund’s eyes began to water. “My little girl.”
Y/N laughed again, kissing her husband’s cheek sympathetically. “Shall we call the audience back?”
He nodded, clearing his throat. “I believe we should.”
three.
Edmund stood on his terrace, watching his son train in the courtyard. He was getting good, better even, than Edmund himself. In his prime, as he so often reminded his children, he had been the best swordsman in Narnia, better than their uncle.
Now, he swapped his sword for a pen, making sure all the laws he had implemented over the years were documented correctly. His son, when he was of age, would take up the mantle of Commander of the Narnian Army. Until then, his cousin, Peter’s eldest son, would hold the position.
Stephen was always trying to prove himself to his father, although Edmund could not figure out why. He thought his son was a fantastic young prince, kind, cunning, and just. He was well loved by the people of Cair Paravel, and he treated everyone with respect.
Edmund couldn’t have asked for a better son than him. He loved his children more than anything, besides his wife, and hoped that they knew that.
He waved as Stephen looked up, eyes widening when he realized his father was watching. His son waved back, only to be taken by surprise from his tutor, swiping his legs out from under him. Stephen fell backwards, landing on the ground with a thud, stilling.
Edmund’s smile dropped, and he threw his quill to the ground, running to the courtyard.
What he did not see was his son pretending to be hurt in order to catch his tutor off guard.
Edmund burst through the large doors, yelling. “Where is my son? What-”
Stephen froze, turning around with bright red cheeks. “Father, you’re embarrassing me-”
Edmund raced over, hugging him tightly. “Are you quite alright?”
“Father I am-”
The instructor interrupted. “If I may Your Majesty, your son disarmed me.” He smiled. “Quite cunningly in fact.”
Edmund laughed, looking back at his son. “Is that true?”
Stephen nodded. “Yes, Father.”
“Well…” Edmund clapped his hands. “I am sorry for overreacting.”
Stephen laughed. “It’s alright, Father. Truthfully, I'm glad you were watching.” He nudged the king. “Perhaps we can spar each other.”
“Absolutely not.” The crowd of knights and noblemen alike turned around, kneeling instantly. ‘Your Majesty’ echoed through the yard as the fair queen walked towards her family. Y/N kissed her son on the cheek. “You know your father has a bad shoulder.”
Edmund glared playfully at his wife. “My love, it is fine.”
“Oh, is it?” She crossed her arms. “I remember you saying just last night that-” Edmund kissed her quickly, much to the dismay of their son.
“Really Papa? You two are much too old to be acting this way.”
And daughter, apparently. The older couple turned around, smiling at the Princess. “I am never too old to appreciate your mother’s beauty, Caroline.” He smiled, kissed her cheek gently. “Never too old.”
Y/N smiled back, watching as Caroline completely ignored her father, staring at her brother’s instructor with an intensity that Y/N could only compare to how she looked at Edmund. The instructor locked eyes, blushing immediately and taking his leave from the courtyard.
Interesting, Y/N thought as she watched her daughter’s attention drift away. Very interesting.
four.
“Father!” A voice echoed through the west wing, and Edmund’s heart dropped. “Father, come quickly!”
He ran like a young man again, whipping through the lords and ladies alike to get to his daughter. His grandchildren were young, and he had fussed over them almost as much as he had his own children. The thought of something happening to them, or his daughter filled him with a sense of dread.
Slamming the doors open, he let out an audible sigh of relief when he saw the entirety of his family standing around the table, a birthday cake with too many candles in the center. He walked up to his daughter, kissing her on the cheek. “You almost gave me a heart attack, young lady.”
Caroline laughed, kissing her father’s cheek in return. “Not so young anymore Papa.” She gestured toward the cake. “Make a wish.”
Peter yelled out from his chair. Edmund’s heart always broke at the sight; his once full of life, powerful older brother, was now an old man, older than Edmund had ever imagined him. “Take your time Ed. I’m not getting any younger.”
Edmund glared, shoving his brother playfully. “How does your wife put up with you I wonder.”
Peter scoffed. “Probably as well as yours does. Poor Y/N.” He laughed. “She is a saint for marrying you. As are your children for putting up with you.”
Lucy sighed. “Can you two please stop bickering?”
Susan nodded. “It is quite exhausting.”
Edmund rolled his eyes. “Where is your mother Stephen? I have not seen her all day-”
The door creaked, and Edmund turned around, grinning. Aslan, she was radiant. As radiant as the day he met her, nearly eighty years ago. Approaching her husband, she kissed him gently, whispering so they were the only two that heard. “Miss me?”
“Every moment you are away.” Edmund responded, taking her arm. “How was your day my love?”
“It-”
His grandchildren groaned. “Grandfather, cut the cake, please!”
Caroline widened her eyes. “Behave yourselves. Honestly, I don’t know where you get it from.”
The old couple broke out into hysterical laughter, as did the rest of the room almost immediately after. “Oh my dear girl.” Edmund said in between laughs. “We are quite similar.”
Stephen scoffed. “Who does that make me like-” Caroline smacked her brother over the head, and he stopped, turning slowly toward his sister. “What was that for?”
“Shut it.” She hissed, smiling sweetly back at her parents. “Shall we cut your cake Father?”
Edmund nodded, approaching the cake. “What flavor is it?”
“Raspberry and chocolate.” Caroline smiled. “Your favourite.”
Edmund grinned, taking a deep breath. Closing his eyes for a moment, flashes of his life flew through, from when he first met his new neighbor (now wife) to now. Taking a deep breath, he opened his eyes, blowing out the candles with a single blow. The room erupted into cheers, his youngest granddaughter pulling on his tunic. “What did you wish for Grandfather?”
He knelt down, whispering. “It wouldn’t be much of a wish if I told you, now would it?”
She shook her head, giggling. “I suppose not.”
He stood up, looking over at his wife with all the love he could muster. Y/N stared back, smiling gently. “Are you quite alright, my love?”
“Perfect.” Edmund whispered. “Thank you.”
She laughed, leaning her head on his shoulder as they looked at their family. “Whatever for?”
“Everything.” Edmund smiled. “Everything.”
