4: What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of?

One of my favorite parts of Stars could probably have been edited out, or strictly cut down, and that's Chapter 11 where I go into Asch, in the middle of mission, having to act as a maestro and do a round of marriages, baby blessings, and burials in like a half hour. I don't think Asch being a maestro is even canonical (despite him using the Maestro Sword), but religious customs are really interesting to me, and with religion being such a big part of Abyss, I wanted to get into it. So it was fun from a world-building perspective. But more importantly, it was just really funny to me, watching Asch having entirely the wrong personality for this, and not wanting to do it, and being determined to be as quick about everything as possible -- but still feeling honor-bound to put in a good faith effort and not just blow these hopeful people off. Asch being a maestro pops up across the fics, and it's often because a) I like the world-building and b) it's inherently funny.

17: What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?

There are a number of Abyss ones, especially Modern AU scenarios. I like the idea of a Band AU where Luke, Asch, Guy, and Natalia were a group and broke up some years ago, and Asch went off on his own, and there's angst everywhere. I'll never write it, but it's fun to kick ideas around in my head.

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

Something I've always appreciated about writing fic is that it's had me write settings and characters I wouldn't have gravitated towards on my own -- especially modern settings. (My original stuff tends to be more old-timey.) Also, different fandoms lend themselves to different tones, so that's allowed me to write with more variety than I might have if I'd stuck to just original stuff. We all have our niches where we thrive naturally, but I think mixing it up is always useful; it gives you more ingredients you're comfortable cooking with.

 Thank you everyone who’s been reading this! I originally wrote Stars without the intention to ever share it, but I’m glad I did. Seeing the story’s hit counter rise every week was always so encouraging, and I just hope you all enjoyed it.

I do still have a lot of Abyss fanfic stored up, including some longform stuff that focuses on the story after the game, but I’ll be taking a little break from posting it. More Natalia-centric stuff will be coming in 2023, so if that sounds interesting, I’ll see you then.
