The Myraham was a fat-bellied southron merchanter up from Oldtown, carrying wine and cloth and seed to trade for iron ore. Her captain was a fat-bellied southron merchanter as well, and the stony sea that foamed at the feet of the castle made his plump lips quiver, so he stayed well out, farther than Theon would have liked. An ironborn captain in a longship would have taken them along the cliffs and under the high bridge that spanned the gap between the gatehouse and the Great Keep, but this plump Oldtowner had neither the craft, the crew, nor the courage to attempt such a thing. So they sailed past at a safe distance, and Theon must content himself with seeing Pyke from afar. Even so, the Myraham had to struggle mightily to keep itself off those rocks.

In ASOS, Catelyn V, we see the ship again:

Then in Samwell V in AFFC, we get literally a one off line here:

At the Weeping Dock, he watched two acolytes help an old man into a boat for the short voyage to the Bloody Isle. A young mother climbed in after him, a babe not much older than Gilly's squalling in her arms.

So....

We know the Myraham is a merchanter who works out of Oldtown

We know the captain's daughter is like, young ish, and that he himself is old (and fat)

We know they were kept in the Iron Islands for about six months

We know Gilly has her baby/Dalla has Aemon like beginning to middle of ASOS. Timeline wise, if the Myraham was kept at the Iron Islands for six months, then went to Seaguard and back to Oldtown once again, any baby the girl has would be roughly the same age as monster and Aemon Steelsong.

Sam makes sure to note that the mother is young, the baby is around the age of aemon steelsong, and that the old man needs help getting into the boat

IT'S JUST A LITTLE THING. Maybe even what you'd call a reach lmaoooo BUT unlike the other big "theon has a bastard theory" (being the miller's sons), the timeline actually fits here. I keep wondering if it's here as way to make the world seem bigger - ie, this woman theon doesn't see as a person, who he just kinda offhandedly fucks over without even trying, is still moving about the world, still attempting to live her life as best as she can - OR if it's there for a specific reason, with the reason being she/her baby are going to be plot relevant to Theon's emotional arc or perhaps even theoretical upcoming kingsmoot that I'm almost positive Asha is going to push for, with Theon - or his bastard? - as her proxy.

Dasey:

when I started shipping it if I did: Oh, boy. That's a question, now isn't it? I low-key shipped them when I first found Dasey fanfiction waaaaaaay back in my undergrad (so, like 10-12 years ago?). But it was super low-key. I got BACK into Dasey majorly in the spring of 2021 and stumbled upon fanvids and fanfiction of them AGAIN and because I was laid up health-wise, I got obsessed.

my thoughts: I have a LOT of thoughts about Dasey???? I think they're fascinating characters and I adore them both as individuals and as a couple. I think their physical comedy (and by that I mean they're complete lack of personal space) is hilarious; and I think they have insane chemistry. I think Derek knows Casey better than anyone, and Casey gets Derek better than anyone; and I think they're both stupid and stubborn enough to never acknowledge that. I think they're far more alike than they are different, and I think I need to continue my rewatch of the show because I'm gonna end up writing an essay about them.

What makes me happy about them: I think it's how good of a team they can be. I've always been a BIG friends-to-lovers shipper, but even more than that, a "we're partners and i've got your back" shipper. And even though Derek and Casey TRY to pretend to they hate each other, we have sooooo much evidence of them being protective of the other, of them going out of their way to help the other (usually complaining the whole time, but c'mon), and of them kicking serious butt when they do work together. It just makes something inside me purr.

What makes me sad about them: THEY'RE KIDS IN AN AWFUL SITUATION and they don't FEEL like family, but everything in their lives are telling them they're supposed to be; but they CAN'T be, and if they TRY to be together, they might hurt their FAMILIES who they LOVE so MUCH; and I think you catch my drift.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: ...I really hate OOC-ness, but the MOST OOC-ness I hate is when people make Derek to be, like, abusive? Or completely inconsiderate of Casey's boundaries, and you get into non-con. I just... Nope.

things I look for in fanfic: EXCELLENT CHARACTERIZATION. Good bantering, that push-and-pull that they both have... I also think they have at least mildly kinky sex, and I support this.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Well, all of Casey's boyfriends SUCK except for Sam who is an excellent person but not good for her. And I'm pretty sure her husband in LWL isn't doing a good job either. So they'd have to create a WHOLE NEW CHARACTER for her--

I don't mind Derek/Sally, except I think they'd have to work things out as adults better. I dunno; the show purposely shows us that Derek and Casey are far more important to each other than any of their significant others (that's been stated by the creators, btw), so yeah. No one.

My happily ever after for them: THEY GET TOGETHER AND THE FAMILY ACCEPTS THEM AND THEY STAY TOGETHER FOR, LIKE, 60+ YEARS AND BICKER AND BANTER AND LOVE EACH OTHER THE WHOLE TIME and whether or not they have kids depends completely on their choices and Derek calms Casey's panic attacks, and Casey reminds Derek of his worth, and I cry.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: THEY. SWITCH. I think most of the time Derek is the big spoon because he's kinda sexist, no lie, but I think when he's having a bad day, he likes getting spooned. Casey likes being held, but she also likes holding him. So, uh... 80% of the time Derek is the big spoon.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Honestly, I think it's arguing. But in, like, a fun way? With bets and competition and teasing and flirting; I strongly believe that they would just have a lot of small arguments and that would keep the big fights small too. And Casey likes debating and Derek likes challenges.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Well. Casey, obviously. And to a certain extent, Sally.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: ...Derek&Lizzie. I know, I KNOW that Derek & Marti are like, gold, but I think his interactions with Lizzie are superb.

My unpopular opinion about this character: ...do I have one? I dunno. I have a lot of opinions about his relationship with his parents, but I wouldn't call them unpopular, more... me looking at things differently than some others do.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish, in LWL, people (Genora) recognized how much he had grown. Just because a person likes to have fun and tease and passes off some of his responsibilities to people he knows will do them (see: Skyler and Casey, but they also ENJOY doing these tasks most of the time), doesn't make him immature. He was SUCH a good dad and was taking steps to improve Skyler's life, and maybe their lives weren't traditional, but she was healthy and loved and appreciated and he had raised her as best he could; and honestly, his relationship with Skyler was much better than his with George, I'm just saying. Derek is clever with a large heart, and I wish people in the show saw that more.

Some spoiler-y obervations on today's SNW episode, "Hegemony":

I'm really glad we got to see an adult Gorn that looks more humanoid. When Sam found those anomalous human readings I was really concerned they'd go with a "TOS Gorn a weird Human-Gorn hybrids" thing.

I kinda wish the Gorn weren't such a drawn-out plot with SNW. The feeling I'm getting is that they're just doing "Arena" but with eight episodes scattered over three seasons and I don't really see how that's gonna be better than "Arena". For what it's worth I'd love to get a closer look at how Gorn society in SNW actually works, like how did y'all build those spaceships if you keep cannibalising everyone. And to this episode's credit they did tease in that direction.

Definitely more on board with Scotty by the end of the episode than at the start. I really hope we can keep Carol Kane next season and have her mentor Scotty. I like what SNW has done with Spock, Uhura, Chapel and M'Benga; so I'm optimistic about Scotty, but my first instinct whenever a new major TOS character appears is generally to groan.

How exactly does a demarcation line within a solar system? Like, I'm no physicist, but don't planets usually rotate around stars? Wouldn't that shift planets in and out of Gorn/Federation territory depending on the time of year? Incidentally, there's a Trek novel (by Peter David of course) that explores that exact situation, where a planet is in (IIRC) Tholian territory for two days every year.

Pike's voice when he says "Spock" after seeing the destroyed Caygua is just TT

Seeing Pike interrupt Battel's mission here with a subspace phone call, I wish we'd see that more often the other way around. "Sorry honey, can't talk right now I have to make the pirates revolt against their captain, I'll call you back later okay?"

Love the music cues reminiscent of TOS. And I'm glad in general that the post-Berman Trek shows got to recover from the "sonic wallpaper" directive.

The Starfleet delta pattern on the space suits is really distracting. Like, I know I'm supposed to look at how they're hand-holding but wow, that is a lot of deltas!

It kinda rubs me the wrong way that Spock and Chapel killed the Gorn on the Cuyaga, just when the planetside story gets all about how maybe we can talk with the Gorn. Probably doesn't help that the Gorn took like ten seconds to suffocate and seemed to be in excruciating pain throughout. Like, c'mon Chapel, shoot him already, it's be more merciful.

I think SNW is actually quite clever with connecting its Gorn continuity to that of TOS. The SNW Gorn ships like very different from the TOS ones, which is great because in "Arena" no one recognizes the new ship. The Gorn are only revealed as the perpetrators in conversation with the Metrons, so I think it's feasable that Kirk just doesn't know of them (as long as his relationship with La'an doesn't get any further) and the rest of the crew didn't want to interrupt during the conversation with the seemingly very powerful Metrons. After Kirk is teleported by the Metrons Uhura screams, because 60s show (she should be used to teleportation right, being in Starfleet), but the SNW retcon that she knows of the Gorn and their horrors really gives that moment new depth and makes it less silly.

Lovee the takes on each character/ship dynamic. second this one is kind of a given so I completely get it if you don't really have any opinions at all about them but I was wondering what your thoughts are on Sam/Jess. Obviously most people just think about them in the existing dynamic of the show but idk! Personally I find their dynamic to be really interesting in the context of what Jess is representative of to Sam. Especially in that time of his life. So I guess it's more of a question of if Sam/Jess is interesting to you, what makes it so and your thoughts on that.

to be honest friend, I'm falling into the "most people" category here because my real opinion about Jess is that she... basically isn't a person. And I love that for her, sincerely. Some characters really are tools in a story to spin in forward, and I am soooooo tired to death of all the carrying on about "fridging" and whatnot. Some characters are characters and some characters are narrative tools and, yes, bad luck to the angry ladies out there, spn is a show built on super classic-traditional bones about men who are getting revenge for the dead wife and what they learn along the way. That's good and fine. I'm into it.

with that aside, and given that she is a tool, I just -- don't... care about her. Like I thought about writing a fic one time as a demonstrative exercise called "Five Personalities Jessica Moore Could Have Had," because she's such a blank-slate (again, correctly!) in her like five minutes of screen time. We can't even count the djinn dream of Jess, because that was a pretty vision dreamed up by Dean to hurt himself worse, lol.

but as you say, her being representative of something to Sam is legit interesting -- he didn't fully engage in the relationship, he was gonna marry her without telling her the truth -- like a gay man desperately hitching himself to a nice wife in some misguided attempt to "fix" it. Like if he just tried hard enough he would be someone other than who he is. Which is the whole Sam-at-Stanford story, really. And it's an important part of his story -- the hero has to go away from home and return to it with a better sense of who he is -- but it makes Jessica entirely figural and metaphorical instead of being, again, a person. Like when Sam says in whatever late season ep that he "still thinks about Jess," I'm left going... really? Because even by late in the first season he's reoriented into the family revenge story, not specifically the for her revenge story. But if we reorient that to "I still think about the life I could have had" -- that, I believe. And she'd be part of that. Whatever her actual personality was. Apparently she made cookies. How... fridged wife of her.

WITH all that said, what I'm most interested in with stories that circle around Jess are stories that completely ruin that relationship, haha, because the whole point of it in the larger frame-story of Supernatural is that it has to end so Sam can get back to his real life. So -- if it's an AU where Sam for some reason stays at Stanford and they do get married, I'm only interested if their marriage kinda sucks and they get divorced by year five. (e.g. maybe, like his mother, he pretended he could be 'normal' but he keeps sneaking out on hunts after all, and Jessica thinks he's cheating, and they end up dead bedroomed, etc etc.) Or, if it's set during Stanford, I'd go for an almost horror-story dramatic irony fic where she's introduced to this tall hot guy by her smiling blond classmate Brady and we can see fate rearing up to grab her by the neck, and she feels almost compelled to stay, and she doesn't know why when Sam keeps obviously not telling her things but she forcibly dismisses it from her mind and goes he'll tell me someday. And then it's November 2nd. :)

Dean/Jess similarly I guess I'd only be interested in from a symbolic sense -- Dean attempting to get closer to Sam any way he can in the period of not-talking. I have no interest in Jess living -- her job is to die -- so it'd have to be still at Stanford, and it'd be a really tight window to make it work in a way that wouldn't screw up everyone because Dean isn't a piece of shit and Jess (being a figural Nice Girl who Dies) can't be a cheater. Maybe in the very early Sam and her have only gone on like one date but they're not an 'item' yet, Dean sees her at the bar after Sam leaves and decides he'll take her for a spin...? Eh, that's too mean. So, I guess not for me. And I never like ot3s so the other one is not for me either. But if you can make it terrible and Jess dies at the end anyway, maybe!

The SaMs/LaEs Monty hater in me that skips any and all episodes where it's just Monty+Another character (Like Earth, Lunar, or Moon). I even skip gameplays with him in it. He's only ever nice and decent to Earth, and Lunar by extension. Can't even be nice to other people that Earth cares about. My girl deserves better, I'm sorry, I had to say it. I don't care if he "treats her well", that's the bare minimum. Spoiling her with gifts feels like love-bombing to me or maybe that's just me nitpicking because of what I went through in a previous relationship. But anyway, point is Earth deserves better! He still secretly calls her mommy, like mumbling it and it's ick!

I think Monty stopped calling her Mommy a long time ago. He only called her that during his first meeting with her. And maybe one or two times after that, but... Eh... Shrug.

I do think Monty is an interesting character, but since he's left the main circle cast of TSAMS and got his own show with MAFS, I feel his intelligence has gone down significantly.

They focus more on his rage, and he tends to be more stupid, when in the early days of TSAMS, he was overly cautious when it came to Evil people but he was just stupid with money.

It is interesting to see his character evolve, but I kinda wish we could go back to what he had.

I do like morally grey Characters, and like... Monty is quite an interesting asshole. But I will give him this, he is entertaining for me.

I don't expect my characters in media to behave logically sometimes. And I have a mixed relationship with the direction they're taking Monty right now....

And I'm one of those people who doesn't like him with Earth that much.

At the bare minimum, we know his war crimes were fake, as he admitted in their therapy.

But like...

He has actively threatened Earth's family, (Lunar, Solar... and Ruin if he counts) he has threatened children, and not just FC. In the recent LAES episode, he kinda hinted that he beat up a few children who threw golf balls at him and Earth is just like "haha you're silly." (looking back, she probably thought she was joking)

I mean... they're cute. He treats her nice. But that's the bare minimum.

I feel she can do a whole lot better.

I get that "opposites attract" and everything....

But at some point...

There's a limit.

It almost feels they have nothing in common and are just together cus the vas are dating.

I get that Monty "showed her the world" or whatever and opened her heart to romance. but that could have been anyone....

The episode where Monty faked he was being sick just to cuddle with Earth in MAFS was my least favorite episode and actively triggered me just cause of how closely it resembled abusive relationships I've been in before.

Earth even knowing he's lying but tolerating it cus she likes him to stick around.... FC asking what they love about eachother, and neither of them really have a good answer..... As they both only like eachother for what they can do for eachother. Earth liking that Monty opened her up to new experiences, and Monty liking Earth for what she can do for him. Which to me, feel very surface level.

I've heard people argue: "well, you can't just list on the spot what you like about someone."

Yes I can. I can literally do that with all of my friends and it's a long list and it's not just things that they do for me, it's who they are as a person and more substantial things to little things.

I know Monty and Earth have only been dating for a few months, but I think they would have had more they liked about eachother by now.

So is this me heavily projecting? yeah. Is it wrong if people like Monty and Earth Together? No way! Honestly ship them if you like.

But honestly, for me personally I need something more substantial.

Monty is literally her opposite and they don't have much in common and actively hurts kids and her family when it was something Earth would put her foot down in any other scenario.

I can't stand it, so I tell Andreja to set a course to New Atlantis once they're done there, and head to my quarters. I can still hear them through the intercoms, so I turn it off and hide under my covers.

Sam once told me that Lillian came back after him a lot over the years. Looking for sex, claiming to have changed, to be wanting to have a good relationship with him and Cora... Not that he actually believed after a while, but he said the sex was good, so he played along.

Is that what they're doing now? Looking for comfort in eachother after some adrenaline? I don't want to know.

Sam closed off the comms to Lillian's ship, kinda happy that they didn't fight again. Despite Lillian making up excuses to not see Cora.

But the glares he was getting from Andreja and Cora told him it was not something to be happy about.

"Dad, why were you flirting with mom?" Cora asks, crossing her arms as she started at him like she's the parent.

"I wasn't flirting with her. Why would I do that?" He retorts, confused as to what led to this situation.

"When did they leave?" He asks, not being any answers for the women in the ship, both still glaring at him. "When?" He pushes, and Andreja folds.

"Somewhere between needing a vacation and that invitation to Paradiso." It was an invitation?

It's a while before the door to my quarters open. I'm not in the mood to talk to him, so I turn away on the bed, avoiding his eyes.

"Darling, can we talk?" Sam asks, and I make a point to ignore him. "Please? I'm really-" I don't want to hear it, so I turn and toss one of my plushies at him.

"Don't want to talk!" I shout, throwing another plushie. "Get out! Go back to her!" I throw one with each sentence, but he barely moves, only to dodge my attacks.

Instead of leaving, he steps closer.

"Go back to having that great sex you couldn't pass up on." I continue, along with my barrage of plushies. "Go back to crawling, to begging for any drop of attention, to arguing every day. Isn't that what you want?" I finally toss my Parsecpooch, the last plushie in the bed, and he catches it expertly.

"Darling, I'm not gonna-" he tries again, close enough to hold me in his arms.

"At least have the decency of waiting for me to leave the room, to not do it where I can see or hear it." I mumble, falling into his chest, crying. "Try to hide from me."

"I'm not going back to her." He says, running a hand through my hair. "Hell, if Cora and Andreja didn't tell me, I wouldn't know she was flirting with me."

"What?" I lean back, cleaning up my tears.

"It felt... Good. To talk without it escalating into an argument." He explains. "That's all it was for me, love."

"So you're not going to that weekend in Paradiso?" I ask, my voice broken and flawed.

"Not with her, no." He offers me a smile, cupping my face in his hands. "If I'm ever granted a vacation there, it'll be with you. On our honeymoon."

Our... Honeymoon? My brain stops in its tracks. Why is he talking about honeymoon already? Unless...

"I know this is a shit time to do it, but I love you. And I want to marry you, if you'll take me." His smile is genuine, and I'm about to lean into a kiss when there's a noise at the door.

I get up, opening it to find Cora and Andreja there, acting as if they weren't listening in on our conversation.

Cora comes by to hug me, clearly happy with the proposal.

"I'd love to have you in my family." She says, before running off into the ship.

I close the door again, and turn back to Sam.

"I'd love to marry you." I say, but the memory of the way they flirted is still like a gash on my mind. "But you'll have to promise me that there won't ever be a repeat of today." All my terms are on the table. That's the only demand I'll ever make.

"You have my word on it, love." He gets up, coming by to give me a kiss.

I'm not letting go that easy. Not really.

Viridian Mercy: Chapter 5

“Hey, Sam?”

I approached my crewmate carefully, squeezing my shirt. Sam was busy trying to fix our shower in the little cubby we call our bathroom. She seemed visibly frustrated, so maybe this was a bad time… but she paused anyway, wrench in hand and some part of a pipe in the other.

“What's up?” She wiped grease from her face. Gosh, the way she looked right now… filthy. But…

I got distracted. I refocused. “Um… I wanted to talk about the other day.”

Sam hesitated visibly, but then cleared her throat. “Sure.”

“I just… I wanted to apologize for scaring you. Something in the air was messing with me… I was so convinced that I just wanted to stay on Phasorium forever.”

“It's fine.” She refocused on undoing a different pipe. “You said you lost your helmet?”

“Something in the water unbuckled my helmet, yeah. Some creature got its fins all over me.”

“Probably kinda scary…” She checked me for a reaction.

“It was…” I itched my arm. “But as soon as the helmet came off, it was like… a wave of calm washed over me.”

“Poetic.”

“I'm serious! Shut up.” I scoffed, glancing away. “But… that's not what I wanted to talk about.”

“Getting hijacked by a lake monster is somehow the thing you don't want to talk about?” Sam said at first, but then thought about her statement. “Actually, that's fair.”

“...I wanted to talk about what you said to me,” I refocused the conversation. “When I was under the influence.”

She stopped working, biting her lip. This was apparently a touchy subject for her.

“...Did you mean what you said?”

She paused for a moment, but eventually nodded. “...Yeah. I did.”

“All of it?”

“Yeah.”

I smiled at her. “That was nice of you, then. Thank you.”

“Yeah, you're welcome.” She tried her best to keep unscrewing a pipe, but her movements were less steady… her heart was racing. I could feel it. 

“Are you nervous?” I shoved at her arm. “About showing emotion?”

“No!” She took great offense to this. “I-I can show emotion! See?”

She threw her arms out beside her, making a face of annoyance. But annoyance wasn't the only emotion she could express, and I knew that.

“...Yes, I see.” I let it go, but still smiled to myself. Sam was struggling with this conversation, I could tell, so I changed the subject. “So what's wrong with the shower?”

“Ugh… dude, I don't even fucking know.” Sam dropped her shoulders with an eye roll, and dropped a plastic pipe on the floor. “I'm checking for a blockage or something, but I'm not seeing shit. I think we might have to go to a station to get it fixed.”

“That sucks.”

“Yeah. It's gonna come out of our paychecks for sure.” She rested her hands behind her neck with a sigh. “But I just can't get any water to come out. Whatever. No showers for a few more days, I guess.”

“Hmm…” I thought to myself for a moment. Certainly, the shower was broken, and would need repairs from another Viridian team. An engineer team, for sure. But perhaps there was another way to keep clean at least until then…

Then I got an idea. “Do we have any stable planets nearby?”

“What, Goldilocks planets?” Sam stood back up, itching her hair. She needed to get her mohawk redyed.

“What?”

“You ever hear of Goldilocks? Or is that just a purely human thing?”

“Um…”

“I guess it is. Heh…” She shook her head, and started piecing the pipes back together. “Go check the starmaps. See what you can find.”

“Okay. Because I'm thinking if we can find a stable planet with a good atmosphere…” I trailed off as I jogged to the cockpit, swishing the hologram map around to find a decent planet. 

“Then what?” Sam called from the back of the ship.

“Then maybe we could use a substitute!” I called back, finding a good planet not close, but not too far either.

“What do you mean by that?” Once she was done, Sam followed me to the co-pilot's seat. She was cleaning her hands with a rag.

“I mean, if we can find a good body of water or something…” I kept searching, but Edenwise was the only mapped planet worth searching. “...We can just bathe there.”

“Oh. You think so?” Sam looked uncertain as I pinpointed Edenwise.

“Yeah! I mean, we have our supplies. We just need a body of fresh water. And it looks like Edenwise is our best bet.”

“Hm.” 

“Strap in, Sam.” I got our ship ready to fly, dismantling the gravity anchor that held our ship still in space. With a low rumble, the ZZ Striker started moving.

Sam begrudgingly strapped in, still wiping her hands. “Maybe we're just out of water.”

“Don't we recycle it?”

“Yeah, but if there's a leak somewhere… eh, whatever. We can let the engineers figure it out.”

“Alright.”

We flew silently for a little while, the ship moving as smoothly as ever through the cosmos, before jittering and shaking as we hit the thick atmosphere of Edenwise.

“That one looks good.” Sam had a good eye—she found a local lake much faster than I could. I nodded and started descending the ship into a nearby clearing, and Sam stood up from her seat to go collect some supplies.

“Atmosphere's oxygen, right?”

“Yes ma'am!” I double-checked to confirm, and it was indeed primarily oxygen. Very similar biological makeup to Earth, so Sam should feel right at home. It was gorgeous here… overgrown trees and flora decorated this planet. Not nearly as enchanting as Phasorium was, but perhaps that was on purpose.

We collected some soap and shower things, and headed out. The airlock did not need to change the air pressure, so we could just walk out and explore without helmets or suits. Sam slung her small duffel bag over her shoulder, and I carried my drawstring bag to the edge of the lake.

“It's very nice here…” I smiled at Sam. 

She shrugged. “Yeah, it's pretty nice.” 

“You don't think so?”

“No, I said it was nice!” She scoffed at me, looking at me like I was crazy. “What'chu mean?”

“I'm just pulling your leg! Sorry.”

She only sighed as she started stripping her shirt, then pointed at me to turn around. I suppose there wasn't too much privacy in an open area like this, so we silently agreed to not look at each other at this time.

I nodded and turned around, collecting my clothes into a bundle to throw on the shore, then waded in and kept my shampoo bottle with me. It was bubbly… I liked bubbles a lot. They must have drifted over to Sam with the current, because I heard her chuckle after a few minutes.

I was clean much sooner than Sam was. I suppose she liked to take her time… I found my shirt on shore, drying myself with a shake, then peered over my shoulder for just a moment.

She was still turned away from me, so I didn't see anything in particular… except… 

I glanced back, feeling my face become hot. She had back muscles. And she looked good.

I tried to forget what I had seen, and more importantly, how I felt about it… but I was having a hard time. I just kept getting dressed up, then sat on the shore away from Sam as I tried hiding my face.

Eventually she finished up, and walked over to me. She laughed a little. “You good, Veth?”

“Yes!” I was a little overly enthusiastic with my answer. It was too late to correct it, though. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

“What's wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Come on. I've never seen you curl up into a ball like that.” She gave me a gentle kick. I curled up tighter.

My voice was muffled in my arms. “I'm sorry.”

“About what?”

“I… I looked.” I'm sure my face was a lovely shade of purple at this point.

“Oh. That's it?” Sam laughed, shrugging. “Hey, I mean… that's on you.”

“I know! I'm sorry!” I threw my hands out. 

“Don't apologize! It's fine!” Sam kept laughing, and I just kept hiding. She could not see my face right now. “Veth, it's fine. I'm serious. I'm not mad.”

I couldn't answer.

She thought of something even worse. “...Did you like what you saw, at least?”

“By the gods, Samantha, shut up!” I exploded out of my ball, and ran towards the ship. I could hear her doubling over laughing as I escaped.

Oh, gods forgive me. This was all extremely unprofessional. What was I supposed to put in my daily log now? That I thought my coworker looked good? That we bathed in the same lake? How was I supposed to…

I paced around, hiding my face with my hands, until I heard the airlock open behind me. “Hey, I'm sorry. I was just making a joke.”

“I-I know…” I huddled onto my bunk bed.

“Listen. Relax. It's fine.” Sam gave me a little slap on the arm, then she settled in to the pilot's seat. “You didn't forget anything, right?”

“...No…”

“Cool. Let's hit it.”

The ship fought gravity as it lifted off, and I fought feelings as my coworker flew the ship. 

What was I supposed to do? I had no clue… we were supposed to stay strictly professional. Now it just felt awkward… and I didn't know how to handle the things I was feeling.

Sam just flew silently, casual as ever, as I peered out of the protective fortress of my arms. 

Gods… I needed a drink.

The Kalvaxus plot!! Since the bad kids are pirates, and they travel a lot, would it make more sense if the 7 maidens were from different nations and are getting taken to Solace for the ritual?

AELWYN. How is Aelwyn doing. She’s alone with her parents now, which is generally a bad thing cuz the Abernants suck. How did she get wrapped up with Penelope

Finally, are there people out looking for Kristen and Adaine? The church would probably search for their chosen, but the Abernants kinda hate their daughter. Buuuuut it would look bad if they didn’t at least appear like they were searching for her, right?

OK SOOOO I think fig Adaine and Kristen probably found themselves in the crew because they fucked something up. They like caused a massive explosion or something and it made a whole scene kinda like when Adaine stole a book from the library and then immediately had a panic attack but more destructive. Fig convinced Adaine to pull some sort of piratey stunt cause she thinks that's just what pirates do and it just spiralled out of control and Kristen sort of stumbled into it halfway through and immediately made the whole thing 10x worse but bill appreciated their complete reckless lack of forethought and also their clear magical ability and introduced them to the rest of the crew (I think this happened all like on the same day riz got added as well they basically got stuck in pirate detention together)

KALVAXUS!!! I think the deal would be that the whole plot with him takes place on leviathan instead of solace so instead of the prophecy being a king and queen crowned in solace one more it's a new pirate king being crowned. The Seven get picked because it's supposed to be maidens from across the lands of Spyre so they have to travel to figure out who had been kidnapping these important girls across the kingdoms (penny is from Solace, Zelda is from Leviathan, Katya is from highcourt, ostentatia is from the mountains of chaos, antiope is from the Baronies, Danielle is from sylvaire and Sam is from an underwater kingdom in the Celestine sea) and there's an attempt to kidnap adaine as well cause fallinel only half counts since its an island off spyre, so they don't NEED her for the ritual but it would make it more secure. Penelope is helping cause of the promise of power, she plans on being crowned pirate king (kalvaxus leaves her behind last minute and crowns himself)

Aelwyn is still living with the abernants in fallinel, Penelope went to her for help because she knew adaine had left and she could use this dishonour to convince Aelwyn there was a way to regain her family's status and reputation through helping kalvaxus. She spends a lot of time traveling and helping to kidnap the maidens with Penelope BUT she doesn't let the abernants know what she's doing. There is for sure evernant undertones (I think thats the ship name idk but ykwim).

There are definitely people looking for adaine and Kristen, more Kristen than adaine as I think the abernants would rather go the "our daughter was kidnapped/enchanted/etc" route than actually finding her, but aelwyn and Penelope and the others involved in the kvx plot are all looking out for her. The second they go into solace Kristen is for sure being searched for, it's a huge huge deal there and it's very hard to keep her from being found and taken back, but everywhere else it's pretty much fine. Anyone part of the helioic church would have heard for sure and the governments of the different nations would be aware but they wouldn't necessarily care so much, more along the lines of if they get arrested/brought in front of the government for any reason there's a chance they'll return her to the church so that the church owes them rather than people actively searching for her.

I also avoid Twitter/X. I started avoiding it when I was in the marvel fandom. Also,the Stranger Things fandom. There are so many shippers who think female characters "get in the way" of their MLM ships. I feel like a small amount of Daisybilly shippers attack Camila morrone "gets in the way" of Daisybilly. I have had a good experience with Daisybilly shippers so far,like @jesstasticvoyage,so that's good. Plus,x is full of Sam Claflin hate,as you said. It's just too much drama for my anxiety to handle.

I used to use twitter for politics/current events stuff, not fandom stuff, I didn't even know there were shippers and fandoms on twitter until I saw people talk about it here. I actually had a very good experience with twitter, it was an immense help for me after the Brexit referendum, connecting with Remainers (I'm an EU citizen living in UK so you can imagine it's not been the best time for me). The platform went downhill after Musk took over, I could talk about that a lot, but don't let me derail this post. Bottom line is, it was good for me when I needed it and let's leave it at that.

As for Sam Claflin, I used to also search twitter for his name too, until I eventually learned it was not doing me any good. Idk how Jess does it, (I keep saying that Sam owes her a dinner at the very least, lol). I only know about the veneer comments from her. I just like writing and blogging, so the way I deal with things is to make my own post on the topic and if it gets through to someone, great, if not, life goes on, I have done my part. (Be the change you wish to see is the mantra I live by.) I've not had any altercation with any d/b shipper, bc I stay away from them, I've blocked all possible tags. Well, apart from that one person who replied to my gifset (which kinda shook me bc I couldn't believe their audacity) but I deleted the comments and blocked them, so that was the end of it. Also Camila Morrone was amazing and anyone who attacks her is a loser, I said what I said!

I've read a few chapters and one-shots from my mutuals and I have to say I prefer them by a mile. for the same reason. they kinda feel more personal? not only because the main characters are... actual fully fleshed out characters, but also because I know the characters beyond their fics and they're all dear to me. so I actually care about them.

Writing goals for 2023: this was already my goal for 2022 and I failed miserably. but I want to write at least one little prompt for every ship I have. and maybe start (and continue ughhh) some of my long fic projects! wish me luck...

New works: Nothing as of now, but after finally figuring out Paloma's story, I'd love to write something for her and Sam. I have ideas.

Not only have I always found Venom HOT as fuck, finding out years ago that unlike the Sam Raimi movies Venom actually is not a parasite inside Eddie's body possessing him or just a mean to make him stronger with no personality but on the contrary work together and CHOOSE to and little by little learned to know each other, Eddie see Venom as more than just a weapon and Venom see Eddie as more than just a vessel to survive on Earth and eventually CANONICALLY fall in in love in the comics with sweet pet names and even going as far as having children together and feeling empty and lost when separated desperately needing to be together like addicted to each other (which isn't super healthy and Venom can be harsh and violent at times, but eh, fiction and alien) was the death of me

Hello Nurse from Animaniacs X Wile E. Coyote from the Looney Tunes. A crossover ship but I HC/it's heavily hinted both take place in the same world at the Warner studios so it's not impossible. I had already explained in a post some weeks ago why I ship it, and the fact he is anthro does not feel like a problem in that kind of wacky universe. As I said, there would be a lot of sapiosexuality involved, she being glad for once someone is interested in her brain rather than her bra size and him glad to see someone finally as much of a genius as himself due to his ego, as well as often needing to put him back together with lots of bandages at the Warner Studios which must have helped bonding. I can imagine them having dates that solely consist of solving equations

Stretch X Kat when she will be an adult from Casper. Yes it's probably the first time I speak of it here on Tumblr but ever since I've watched this movie and episodes of the show at age 13 or 14 I FELT there was potential. Of course nothing for now because she is just 13 so THANK GOD, but they both are headstrong, she was the very first person to argue back and often do instead of being scared of him proving they are just as stubborn as each other and Stretch loves to troll her in particular... I feel like that once she'll be grown it'll be he kind of angryfuck relationship I like in fiction (even if I don't think there will be actual fuck since, well, he is a ghost who passes through things and has no wiener lmao). In fact there is an excellent fanfic I had read back then and it's very good and is very similar if not straight up my headcanon for them, I recommend it it's War on Fanfiction.net and it helped me solidify my feelings about it

This one i'm iffy on, I think they're incredibly cute as friends, and Sam's ending line about them having a connection is heartbreaking, you can tell she was probably the closest of the group to the Washingtons besides Chris

I personally headcanon Josh as gay with some major comphet, so I think he mistook his closeness with Sam - either lesbian or bisexual, I go back and forth, but queer in some way - for romantic feelings

As a ship? hmm like a 7/10, there's definitely worse

I am such a strong lover of Climbing Class, best friends to lovers your honour, I think after the game if you subscribe to the belief that Josh is somehow rescued and helped (which I do let me Live) then they would definitely need some therapy together but then again they all do

anyway you can just tell how close they are from their nicknames and their casual interactions and especially how Chris rushes to rescue Josh after The Stranger turns up

I think they'd have some shared guilt over missing most of the night - obviously they both encounter the truth in the mines, but they never learn firsthand things like that that is Hannah or about Josh screwing with them, so there's definitely solidarity there

romantically I think about an 8/10, not my first choice but I definitely appreciate them

so Emily and Mike, we only get a brief glimpse at them actually together, but Emily seems possessive and later hung up on him, maybe it's just her feeling betrayed because Jess got with him and they were friends?? but I don't like them together

ship rating, like a 2/10, because in another lifetime they could have been a power couple ngl - he's class president, and she's got a 4.0 and is on the honour roll, honestly pop off

Emily x Matt

Emily and Matt, their relationship is kinda tainted by the Mike and Emily stuff, but they are adorable in the DLC scenes together and Matt especially is clearly devoted to her from his ending interviews, could probably do with some couples therapy too

ship rating, like a 5/10, maybe 7/10 if you keep their relationship high and get their positive scenes, forever salty that the DLC wasn't just part of the regular game

Chris x Mike

rounding out with this one because I've seen it a surprising amount in fanfiction and it always throws me off?? so I just wanna mention it - I kinda get where people come from, they have a fun dynamic in their few scenes together

however, as an overall ship, I definitely have others that I prefer, and I just don't find enjoyment in this one that I assume the people who write them do, the jock and nerd dynamic is cute but I don't see much substance behind it

rating wise, I'll give it like a 4/10, nothing wrong with it as far as i can tell, just not my cup of tea

so that's this post done, I know there's some more common ones I could have mentioned, but i'm happy with this for now, I'll see if I feel up to another part at some point :)
