“Miss Shen is indeed one of the jewels of the season”
“Certainly, she is of fair face and has many virtues.”
“I’ve been told that she is quite skilled in the art of languages, she plays the pianoforte quite well and her deportment is incomparable.”
“And the Shen family is quite wealthy, any gentleman would consider himself lucky to have her as his bride.”
You pointedly ignore the aunties whispering among themselves as you make your way across the floor. Your mother has taken ill this evening, leaving your brother to escort you around. It wasn’t too bad. If an overeager suitor was not to your liking, all Ricky had to do was stand tall and look down his nose at them. Unfortunately, that also went for the suitors that weren’t too bad as well.
“I didn’t like him, Xiǎo Mèi” He says to you as you both watch the poor man make his way back into the crowd, proverbial tail between his legs.
“Richard,” You hiss, drawing yourself to your full height which doesn’t really do anything since your brother is disgustingly vertically gifted. “You need to stop calling me that.”
“I’ll stop calling you that when you stop calling me Richard.”
“It’s what’s proper.”
“And I care because?”
“Ugh, you are infuriating.”
“And you have feathers in your hair.”
If you weren’t wearing one of your best gowns, low cut, splendidly embroidered white satin, trimmed with hideously expensive silver thread, you would have lunged at him already. Instead you settle for squeezing the arm you’re holding a little too hard, glad that your gloves would conceal how your knuckles strain. To your chagrin, you get nothing more than a slight wince.
Fortunately, someone else decides to barrel into him and if your brother was any less steady, he would have been knocked clean off his feet. Meanwhile, you’re fighting the urge to laugh hysterically. Kim Gyuvin may have half the ladies in the room falling over themselves for him but he possessed the grace of a newborn foal and the personality of a rambunctious puppy.
“Ricky-ah!” He greets your brother effusively before turning to you and playfully dipping his head into a pseudo-bow. “Miss Shen.”
“Mr. Kim.” You reply with your own little curtsey.
There’s nothing more enjoyable than the look on your brother’s face right now. All the eligible ladies on your side of the room are giggling and whispering among themselves, definitely charmed by two of the season’s most eligible bachelors. You would be too, except one of them’s your brother and the other one is just as good as that in everything but name. None of them know about the time Kim Gyuvin threw a fit after your brother called his beloved lapdog something he probably shouldn’t have. You do. It sort of ruined any semblance of his image for you.
“As much as I know your brother makes delightful company,” Gyuvin begins.
You stifle a giggle beneath your gloved hand. If the whole of polite society wasn’t watching, Ricky would’ve definitely punched him by now. You resist the urge to make an unladylike snort as Gyuvin extends his unnervingly large hand towards you.
“May I have this dance, Miss Shen?”
“You may.”
You let Gyuvin lead you across the floor. For all of his awkward deportment, you know he has proven time and time again that he is an excellent dancer.
“Is there any lucky gentleman that you have your eye on tonight, Miss Shen?” He asks as you make smooth circles around the room.
“Not particularly, Mr. Kim.” You spin once, the light fabric of your skirt almost floating. “And you? Is there any lucky lady that has caught your attention?”
If Gyuvin had not been a childhood playmate and old friend, then perhaps you would not be so improper. But alas, you’ve known each other from the moment you could toddle. He graces you with a secretive smile.
“Perhaps, we shall see.”
The dance comes to an end a moment later and you give each other a courtesy bow. Gyuvin means to escort you back to your brother but some nosey mother pulls him away, likely to try and introduce her daughter to him. Thus, you are left alone, searching for your brother’s blond head. Unfortunately for you, it seems that your lonesome state has caught the attention of some gentlemen on the hunt.
“Miss Shen, what a pleasure.” A particularly bold one comes up to you. You greet him in kind, although you are well aware that his eyes have fixated themselves on your chest, ogling the low cut of your dress. Still, you must make conversation although you curse the rules of propriety in your head.
“My mother has taken ill this evening unfortunately.” You say trying your best to angle yourself away from his uncomfortable stare and excuse yourself. “So it is my brother who is escorting me this evening. I need to get back to him actually.”
“Oh well he seems to have stepped out, might I keep you company in his stead?”
You’re about to outrightly tell him to leave you be when a familiar voice speaks up first.
“My apologies but I will be accompanying Miss Shen in the meantime.”
Both you and the man turn. You can’t help the smile that blooms on your face when you see your soon-to-be betrothed.
“Mr. Lee, I didn’t know you were joining us tonight.”
“I’m glad that Miss Shen is delighted to see me.” You move forward and take the arm he offers as he turns to the other man who has quite a sour look on his face. “Excuse me, good sir.”
Both of you watch as he leaves with a huff. The ladies and their mamas whisper but you pay them no mind. Soon they would all know anyway.
Lee Jeonghyeon has been courting you since the season started. He was 2 years your senior, good friends with Ricky and from a family that your parents approved of. Everything had been very private up until now as both your families finally began to talk about a public engagement and an even more public wedding. It was to be expected with both of you coming from aristocracy.
“May you do me a favour of having your next dance, Miss Shen?” He asks you as the quartet hints at the beginning of a waltz.
“You always have my favour, Mr. Lee.”
You’re already facing him, one of his large hands wrapping around your waist and pulling you towards him, perhaps a bit closer than the dance called for but with enough space between you to keep it appropriate for the many discerning eyes on you. His other hand holds yours, almost hiding it completely in his grasp. And he looks nowhere but at your face and you would almost feel shy as if his eyes hadn’t traced over your features so many times before. Still, you can’t help but blush at how brazen he is in such a public space.
“In the upcoming events this season,” he murmurs quietly, almost intimate in such a crowded room. “I hope that you could give me the privilege of having your first dance.”
He can have all of them, you would have told him plainly but you need not scandalise the ladies even more. So instead, you say.
“Then that privilege is yours.” The way he looks at you definitely holds almost too much passion for others to look upon.
Later, when you’ve found your brother and Gyuvin again, sharing a drink by the refreshments table, he asks another favour that makes you go completely and unattractively red.
“I heard that the garden is lovely at night, would Miss Shen like to accompany me for a walk outside?”
It’s a bold request. And you’re glad he spoke quietly enough that only your brother and Gyuvin are within earshot. Nevermind that the latter very nearly chokes on his drink. It’s surprising that he’s this shocked considering both of them had the misfortune of walking in on you in the back parlour doing things that were at the height of impropriety (you were just kissing…rather passionately).
Still, you’re suddenly glad your mother is not here but perhaps that is exactly the reason why Jeonghyeon asked. Ricky exchanges glances with you before he speaks.
“If my sister desires it.”
You weigh out the consequences before producing a beatific smile.
“It’s a little stuffy in here, perhaps some air would do us all some good.”
So as the crowd falls into another dance, you slip out, your brother and Gyuvin trailing behind you as a semblance of a chaperone. The garden is indeed beautiful at night. Even better, the foliage is grown enough for both of you to slip behind it, creating a little corner of your own. Meanwhile, your supposed chaperones linger a respectable distance, conversing quietly and letting you have your privacy. Finally, Jeonghyeon’s hands slide to your waist, holding you as closer than earlier. You allow yourself a little impropriety, pouting at him, just a bit.
“You should have informed that you would be attending, Mr. Lee.”
“If it pleases my Lady, I shall give her prior notice on the next occasion.”
Boldly, you stand on your toes and give him the lightest peck, your lips barely brushing his. This time, he flushes, ducking his head like a bashful schoolboy.
“It would please me very much.” You beam up at him. He leans down and catches you in a longer kiss, leaving you breathless as you shove at him gently. “We shouldn’t be so hasty here with so many around.”
“Very well,” he says, looking at you so intimately as if you were the only star in the vast dark sky. “Grant me one last favour this evening then, Miss Shen.”
“And what is it that you desire, Mr. Lee?” His face is still so close to yours that you feel faint.
“My name,” he whispers. “If you could call me by my name this evening, just once, I would be most happy.”
You can’t help the way your breath catches in your throat. It feels almost illicit to utter something that you’ve only ever addressed him in writing, have murmured in the most quiet of moments. Here, in the garden, where your willingly oblivious chaperones chat among themselves, with the crowd but a doorway apart, with the stars hanging above you to witness. Still you grant him his favour.
“Jeonghyeon.”
It is but an almost silent breath. Yet the way his eyes slowly shut, as if relishing in the moment, makes it feel like so much more. And oh, your heart flutters as he looks at you again, breathes your name into the air between you because it is for you and you alone.
His hands grasp yours gently and everything fades into the background. It’s only him.
“My darling.”
And you let him kiss you again.

Hi! May I request headcanons for Oikawa, Atsumu and Kageyama who fell in love with the same girl?
Nekoma’s Manager Pt. 3
- (Oikawa/Atsumu/Kageyama)
a/n: HAHA this is perfect!! I know it’s no hcs, but it’s the perfect pairing for another part to the Nekoma Manager x Atsumu. Since some of y’all asked, why not continue 👀 pt. 1  pt. 2  pt. 4
Tumblr media
You were on the train back home, exhausted from this eventful week you had at the All-Japan Youth Training Camp. You yawn and stretch your arms over your head, careful not to hit the blueberry boy sitting beside you. He chuckles.
“Tired, y/n-san?”
You breath out a sigh of light amusement. “That is a total understatement.”
Kageyama finds himself observing you in curiosity. He’s been feeling a little more giddy around you a couple days into the camp, with a newfound admiration at how hardworking and strong-willed you are. Not to mention, very pretty.
“If you want, you can nap. I’ll wake you up when our stop comes and walk you home,” he suggests.
You blink, the thought of a nap already taking effect on your eyes. “Thanks, Tobio-kun. You’re an absolute life-saver.” After a few attempts to make your bag comfortable to rest your head on, no luck.
Bashfully, you turn to shyly ask, “Tobio-kun...can I...use your shoulder?”
“Hmm?”
“I know it’s awkward it’s just...my bag is uncomfortable...I’ll make it up to you I swear.”
He ponders for a second when a light bulb goes off in his head. “Well, we’re having a match against Aoba Johsai on Friday...you make it up by coming to watch. For the team, of course?” you notice a slight blush paint his cheeks.
You grin. “Tobio Kageyama, is this your way of asking me out?”
His face is almost as red as Nekoma’s color. “I-I mean, it sounded better in my head so, yeah I guess,” he looks away sheepishly.
In response, you tuck your head onto his shoulder, and fall fast asleep. He holds his breath, afraid that any sudden movements will wake you up.
He kept his promise and gently woke you at your stop, then walked you home.
Tumblr media
Friday arrived, and you were anxious to see this match. Sure, it’s going to be an interesting match between two teams, but today, it was a face-off between the Great King and the King of the Court.
You make your way over to Karasuno’s side, when you hear an unfamiliar voice call out for you. You turn to find the Great King and someone else standing before you.
“Hey, you must be Nekoma’s manager. I’m Iwaizumi. This is Oikawa. There’s been a lot of talk about you and your skills. Just wanted to make a point to introduce myself to you, hopefully we can become acquainted.” He stuck out his hand for you to shake.
You shake his hand. “Of course! Nice to meet you Iwaizumi. Looking forward to the match! Maybe if you play good I’ll slip you my highly-requested notes.”
The Great King was practically bursting at the seams from wanting to introduce himself, and couldn’t take it any longer. “So you’re both super smart and super pretty. If Iwa doesn’t want his notes I’ll gladly take your notes. And you don’t need the formalities, Tooru is fine.” He seems pretty smug, flaunting his captain power.
His smugness reminded you of a certain twin back at the camp. What is it with boys thinking being stuck-up to you was considered flirting? Time to put him in his place.
“Well, Tooru, I said if you play well I would give you my notes. You need to earn them, captain.” And with that you walk away with a wish of good luck.
“Hard to get, huh? That’s a new one for you, Shittykawa.”
Oikawa puts his hands on his hips, gaze following your frame.
“...I kind of like that.”

Tumblr media
You walk over to Karasuno’s side, and are immediately greeted wholeheartedly by the team. You sit down on the bench and find the King of the Court plop down beside you.
“How are you feeling, Tobio-kun?”
His face was monotone until he heard your question, to which he replied with a sense of determination. “Ready to show Oikawa that I’m not just his stupid successor. That I’m more than the name that others have called me.”
Something about his statement made you giddy. Maybe it was just his spunk that was contagious.
You put a hand on his shoulder in admiration, instantly making his face go haywire with blush. “I know you’ll do great. And don’t worry, I’ll make an extra set of stats for you if you perform well today,” you say with an innocent smile.
Someone else on the other side of the court saw this interaction. And he wasn’t having it.
Karasuno, usually a loud, rowdy bunch, went silent as the Great King strode up to where you and Kageyama sat. Both teams were as confused as you were. Needless to say, all eyes were on the three of you.
“So, y/n-chan. Seems like you and this ‘king’ are pretty close, hmm?”
You cross your arms, not ready to back down. “I guess you can say that.”
Kageyama rises, with him and Oikawa never breaking their battle of eye contact.
“Well, y/n-chan, you can do much better than him, I think. Scratch that, I know. In fact, I’ll throw a little wager. Aoba Johsai wins, I take you out on a date, and vice versa.”
Before you could respond, Kageyama retorts. “She's not just some object to be won over. Where’s her respect?” He glances at you with a look of concern.
Just when things couldn’t get any wilder, you hear a smug voice of velvet.
“My my, glad I came. The battle for the throne is already more interesting than I was told it would be, and the game hasn’t even started.”
Atsumu Miya.
“And what are you doing here?”
The blonde twin raises his hands in self-defense. “No harm in watching the so-called kings battle it out, right? Woulda came sooner if I knew you were gonna show up too,” he makes sure to include a wink, much to Oikawa and Kageyama’s dismay.
“And who the hell are you now? We were having an important conversation with y/n-chan,” Oikawa spits out.
Atusumu shrugs. “What’s it to you? If you must know, I’m one of the top setters in Japan, so technically I’m more qualified to talk to her if I want.”
The two boys began to get closer, sizing each other up, continuing to banter until you stepped in.
“Everybody CALM the hell down.” You stop in between and pushed them on their chests in opposite directions. “The match is about to start, so get it together and relax.” By this point, everyone was watching. Even Hinata was recording on his phone, just in case.
You sighed in exasperation, with the three setters staring at you with intensity. “If anyone is deciding who I’m interested in, it’s myself. But right now, I’m focused on doing my job for this match. Period. And in response to deciding on who, I'll be fair to all of you by leaving it to what I told Atsumu.” They all lean in, anxious to know how to beat each other.
You grin. “No one qualifies to take me on a date until they beat Nekoma.”
The whistle blows, signaling for the match to start in a couple minutes.
Tumblr media
“Are you sure you’re okay? I mean you had not one, not TWO, but THREE of the prettiest setters pining over you!! How are you not nervous at what they’ll say?”
You take the phone away from your ear a bit as Yachi screamed on the other end of the line. “Well, I don't really know how they’ll react. I’ll let you know once our practice is over, though. Should be interesting,” you giggle, glad to have a girl friend to share boy gossip with.
You walk into the gym and find the whole Nekoma team lined up, all with their arms crossed. No doubt waiting for you.
Kuroo and Yaku step up. “Y/l/n y/n. Would you care to explain? Kenma, pull up the video.”
Kenma raises his phone to you, showcasing the video that was taken of you and the three infamous setters at the match on Friday.
You roll your eyes jokingly, and begin to explain everything, starting from the All Youth training camp to what happened on Friday.
Once you’re finished. Kuroo and Yaku nod, leading the whole team into a huddle. They stay this way for a while, no doubt making bets. Eventually, they break huddle, all grinning smugly.
“Well, I guess we’ve got our work cut out for us boys,” Kuroo announces.
“Time to crush some pretty setters’ dreams.”

“You’re me?!” You looked at the person, who looked identical to you, who was just staring back at you with the same confused look.
“There’s two y/o/n’s?” The guy, who you guessed was Jaemin, asked.
“No, dummy. They’re doppelgängers.” A guy, close to Jaemin said.
“Don't you remember learning about them in class? I’m guessing y/o/n’s doppelgänger here is a vampire or something, older probably and attends the school we’re playing against.” The guy added.
“Good to know someone pays attention in class.” Jaemin said.
“Wait, hold on. I have a doppelgänger?” “Apparently.” You answered y/o/n’s answer.
“Nice to meet you, I’m y/n.” You held out your hand, which y/o/n took and shook.
“Sorry for almost yelling at you. I thought my boyfriend, Jaemin, here was cheating.” Y/o/n said, which only caused Jaemin to gasp dramatically.
“Me?” He asked, but as you both ignored him, he just pouted and walked away.
“And I’m Jeno.” The guy finally introduced himself, and once he did, you immediately thought of where I've heard it before.
“Jeno!” Your eyes widened, causing him to look at you confused.
“You’re Yoojin’s best friend! She thought you were dead!” You explained.
“Yoojin? She’s alive?!” Jeno asked, his eyes as wide as mine now.
Tumblr media
“Let me get this straight. The night we found Jeno, our werewolf, Yoojin, his best friend, did die, but then you, y/o/n’s doppelgänger, brought her back, which is when Daeyoung, the headmasters’ son, saw supernatural activity on their magic map and brought Yoojin and her new sire to the school?” A guy, who you’ve been told is Renjun, asked.
After finding your doppelgänger, you decided to go out for drinks with both of your friends after the game.
“Pretty much.” You replied, taking a sip of my blood infused milkshake.
“And I’m sorry, but you seem really familiar.” Minsoo, one of their friends said while looking at Daeyoung.
“I get that a lot, people always tell me I look like my dad, but I never met the dude, so I wouldn't know.” He explained and sipped on his chocolate milkshake.
“That’s rough, people say the same for me, but with my bio mom, but I never knew her.” Minsoo explained, as he sipped on his chocolate milkshake.
“I know y/n and y/o/n are the doppelgängers here, but you two have the same mannerisms.” Renjun joked.
You talked a bit more and told fun stories about your friend groups until their headmaster and Minsoo’s surrogate mom walked in and told them to pack it up, since they're going back to their school soon, but she stopped in her track when she saw Daeyoung.
“Daeyoung honey, is that you?” She asked.
Tumblr media
“Sit down.” Daeyoung’s mom, Monica said as Jisoo, Minsoo and Daeyoung sat on the seat across from her and Talia, Jisoo and Minsoo’s mom next to her while the rest of us tried to listen in from behind the door.
“I wasn't completely honest with you. You see, your dad, he was a bad man, he wanted to get rid of all werewolves.”
“Headmaster Hwang.” “Richard” The kids from Superno whispered.
“Exactly, and once I found out, I got scared, so I faked my own death.” “Which is when these two were transferred to me.” Talia added, pointing to Minsoo and his twin sister, Jisoo.
“Which was never part of the plan. I wanted to run away with you and your siblings, but they were ripped away from me.” Monica said, looking at the twins. “I started a new school, on my own, Sinui Johwa, raising you to be way more open minded than your father. I’m so sorry for lying, but I couldn't tell you.” She added.
“Hey, mom, its okay. You did what you needed to do.” Daeyoung said, hugging his mother. “Besides, I always wanted baby siblings, but without the baby era.” He said, making her chuckle. “I’m sorry to you too.” Monica told Talia.
“I was devastated, sure, my closest friend died and I didn't know how to deal, especially not while pregnant, but I lived. Richard married me once I gave birth to the twins. We raised them together, but I always knew Richard was keeping something from me. I also thought it was a mistress, not the doom of all werewolves. But its fine, I took over Superno once our very own tribrid, y/o/n defeated him.” Talia explained.
“You two were friends?” The twins asked. “Best friends!” They explained, looking at each other fondly.
“I have to say, running a school by yourself? Didn't see that coming for you.” Monica admitted. “Neither did I, it’s stressful, how do you do it?” Talia asked, laughing.
“Why don't you just merge the schools then?” Minsoo asked, not realising he was thinking out loud, which is when the two looked at each other with their eyes widened.
“We should.”

----------
They began with Alstroemerias. Evie knew exactly what those yellow petals meant, and she found herself smiling softly; it was an ode to a new friendship.
Jacob would wonder where she kept getting flowers from, and time and again she’d tell him that the orphans would give them to her. It was a reasonable excuse, for the real reason was a lot more complex.
You weren’t born in Crawley, but you were born and bred near London to a family of assassins. They weren’t the best assassins in the brotherhood, but they were a high enough rank to be highly respected. You grew up with a protected name, and decided to push yourself further than your parents ever achieved. After a lot of persuading, you convinced them to move to London, where the centre of both The Brotherhood and The Order was operating.
It took a lot of training, but by the time you reached twenty one, it was decided that you were competent to start work on missions of higher stakes. It was on one of these missions that you met a contact, Henry Green. The two of you worked well together, and one day Henry informed you that two new assassins were arriving in London, and he suggested that the four of you work together to bring the Templar Order down. You agreed at the prospect of making a valuable impact on the Brotherhood, and so you followed Henry to the meeting point.
You were not expecting the Frye Twins.
One was ambitious and witty, the other determined and serious.
One was a man, the other was a woman.
One was named Jacob, and the other was named Evie.
You were particularly smitten with Evie.
You greeted Jacob with a friendly introduction, and tried to keep yourself in order as you did the same to Evie. As time went on, you began to bond with the twins, but you held one closer to your heart than the other.
How the letters started, neither of you were quite sure, but you had a feeling it had something to do with not letting Jacob or Henry find out. You’d retire to your house at the end of a day, where Evie would return to the train. What you both couldn’t speak about face to face in the presence of others, you swapped envelopes to each other when no one was looking.
You sent the first flower; small, yellow, and hard to find; they originated in South America, after all. Slowly, you both became accustomed to speaking casually with the pen and bashfully with the seeds of the earth.
Next came heathers and lilacs; a bold move on your part. With a dangerous mission coming into view for Evie, you grew worried more and more as the day got closer. The heather, lavender looking shoots, spoke of good luck, but the lilacs… they spoke of a hint of love; the first sign that you wanted more than a platonic relationship with the older Frye twin.
You were relieved when she returned, and was elated to find in your letter a few young red roses; she returned your love for her tenfold. You replied with orchids, an obvious flirt by complimenting her beauty.
Not one to be bested, her next letter contained calla lilies; magnificent love.
Was this what your relationship was destined to be? A secret whisper encased in parchment?
It was going to be… until Jacob found the letters.
Instead of being angry, confused, or disgusted (as Evie thought he might react), he smirked teasingly. He was happy that his sister had found love, and more than welcomed you into a newer relationship with him, where you were now closer than friends; you were found siblings.
You and Evie were able to open up more than you ever had, and no longer had you the need to pen words against paper to make yourself heard.
But le langage des fleurs… that was here to stay.

Switching Sides: Part 2 (HLITF)
Aaaannndddd once again I would LOVE to thank my girl @theshove for being my editor in chief and making my writing reach a HIGHER level I could never reach without your help. Thank you so much for making sense of my poorly grammar-ed sentences haha.
Also, if anyone possibly wants to get on a tag list I’d be happy to make one
👉👈
If you wanna catch up, Part 1 is right here! Happy reading :)
Premise: Growing up in a life of crime in a Japanese mafia, Atsuko Motomori has seen enough injustice to last her a lifetime. To try and give back to the universe her family has taken so much from, she dreams of being a detective from a young age. Her twin, sharing her disgust for her father and many uncles, just wants an ordinary life away from the crime, paing and suffering. Instead, she wants to be in the spotlight with the soft notes she makes with her cello. In their escape of 2015, on their coming of age birthday, they must split ways, never to be together ever again. If one was found, they didn’t want the other dragged down with them. Atsuko, having changed her name and appearance as best she can without a scalpel, sets off to start her life of car chases and arrests.
Four years in a seemingly dead-end police station in the middle of nowhere, being passed over time after time for promotion, Atsuko finally gets a shot at her dream, having been sent to an academy for the best candidates in the country by her boss who had always kept an eye out for her. After discovering her boss may have made her bite off more than she could chew, Atsuko must become the slave of a dominating instructor!? Who so just happens to be the captain of the most famous police unit in Japan? Not to mention a total knockout! Will Atsuko finally achieve her dream? Or will her new instructor put her through the wringer?

‘A servant? Did he confuse that with a full-time aid?’ I tried to reason with his wording of my job title. As the room was lit by the setting sun and filters out into the corridor, I stood there in silence, thinking about what I'd just gotten myself into.
"Motomori, who will you partner with?" Ishigami closed the book of names and held it under his arm, keeping a close eye on how I was reacting. Letting my eyes meet each one of the detectives' before me, I took in a deep breath to calm my nerves.
"Instructor Kaga, please," I announced. Although he seemed the most stern out of all the men, I took that as a sign of someone worn away by his experience. Which only meant there was more to learn from him. Right?
The announcement of my choice of instructor led Shinonome to laugh at my bravado. "Now that's something. Choosing Hyogo is pretty fitting for our little overachiever." The youngest instructor couldn't help but sound amused as the man I had chosen showed a concerned expression. As he looked me up and down, I stood with more confidence than I really had.
After the Captain's silent review of me, Ishigami progressed through the other pairings. I glanced at Kaga and saw him taking a phone call. "Yeah... I'll take care of it." With his back turned to me, I only heard a minuscule amount of the conversation.
"Kaga, you'll be going after this person." When the other Captain tried to hand over a folder, which I was sure had the case we should be working on inside, Kaga continued his conversation while pointing in my direction. He told Ishigami to give me the folder holding the information we'd need for the undercover assignment.
"These are documents for the instructor." Ishigami frowned, obviously tired of Kaga's dismissiveness. Kaga begrudgingly took the folder before thrusting it into my chest.
"Read it." He demanded and then finished his phone call.
"I'm sure you understand, but-" Ishigami was cut off by Kaga crossing his arms.
"I understand perfectly well." His mood seemed to worsen as the two talked. They continued to bicker as the rest of the instructors watched. I'm sure it was difficult to butt in on the Captains' discussions.
"Squad leaders should get along..." Shinonome frowned as we watched, me not knowing what else to do except just stand there.
"These two will go as far as a fistfight." Instructor Soma's comment made me worry that all the expensive equipment in this room would be damaged if someone didn't intervene soon enough. When Soma directed a question to Goto to see if he agreed, the messy-haired man just stood there in silence.
"I can hear all of you." Kaga scowled as he took a cigarette out of his suit pocket. I knew smoking wasn't allowed in the building, having seen the signs next to most of the doorways, however I decided it best not to make him aware. ‘I mean, he has worked here longer than me.’
‘He is the freaking instructor, Atsuko.’ The voice in my head made me want to metaphorically face-palm. It was clear just by the way the instructor stood he didn’t care much for rules or regulations.
"Don't get in my way." As he walked towards the door, Kaga made what sounded like a threat to me.
"Didn't even think about it." I forced a smile, knowing full well he would likely trample over me if I took even a step out of line. If I was going to learn from this man, I would have to watch what he did instead of asking questions.
"What're you standing around for? Come." Turning back to where I had been standing, I woke myself up from the pit of despair I had thrown myself into.
‘What did you think was going to happen?’ I quickly followed as he gestured me over with a jerk of his head.
~~~~~~
Sitting in the Captain's car, I couldn't help but feel anxious with the silence that thickened the air. According to the file given to us by Ishigami, we had to infiltrate a beach bar... But we were heading in the opposite direction from the sea. We were driving downtown.
"Umm, sir, the file says the destination is-" Kaga, once again, cutting somebody off mid sentence.
"Shut up," he spat, taking me aback with how rude he was.
‘I guess that ‘scum’ comment wasn't too out of character for him, then’ I thought, stricken into silence but sighing on the inside. I turned to gaze out the window, praying that I could get through the day without being caught out for being inferior to what my file suggested.
~~~~~~
When we stopped, I found myself inside a love hotel. My heart raced with worry, recognising the name as a brand my father ran when I was still living at home. He was a gang leader. With a strong mafia at that. He had his dirty little fingers in every industry that had some form of shady business going on. It's what made me hate him so much. The things he did, the things he made me watch, it's what made me want to become a detective. I wanted to pay the universe back for all the bad stuff he had done, and maybe one day find the evidence to arrest him. God knows, the police he had under his claws and henchmen doing his dirty work had delayed that for long enough.
We made our way to the room booked for us, or, more aptly, for Kaga. Meanwhile, I tried to hide my face from the receptionist as discreetly as I could, not wanting them to somehow recognise me. Even though I did my makeup differently from when I was younger, had dyed my hair black from its original brown, dressed differently and even held myself differently, there wasn't much else I could do to change my appearance without making it trackable. I couldn't get surgery because then I would be in the government system; I know, somehow, they'd be able to track me, even if the profile I had now was completely different.
"Hey, um... What're we doing here?"  I asked as I closed the door behind me, the eeriness of the red room making my eyes dart around for any hidden cameras or listening devices. I remembered my father telling me about all the politicians he had on tape and all the people he’d bribed with that information.
"I'm pretty sure I said shut up." Kaga spat, also inspecting the room. I frowned at his rudeness and flipped the switch that turned on the electricity for the room. All the lights went out, causing Kaga to spin around and glare at me in the darkness.
"Don't you know what your position is? Don't interfere." His frown deepened as he stormed back to where I was standing. He was obviously offended I had turned off the lights.
"Love hotels are famous for secret cameras. They're turned on when the electricity switch is flipped. I thought you wouldn't want to risk getting caught." I smiled up to him with a spiteful thought hidden behind it. ‘This guy…’
Probably annoyed with how much sense my statement made, Kaga turned back to the centre of the room. ‘Is he really that easily annoyed?’ I chuckled to myself, not wanting to be reprimanded for intentionally frustrating my instructor.
The two of us were now alone in a dark room with nothing but a bed and mirrors on the ceiling. Not to mention a love hotel. I was painfully aware of what the room represented and everything that had ever happened in it due to the stillness in the air with the air-con off. Memories of what my father encouraged my sister and I to do in our youth flashed back, causing me to shake them out of my head.
"Why're you so nervous?" Sitting on the large bed, Kaga raised his brow at me while I stood awkwardly away from him. I could see a concerned look on the Captain's face as he brought me back to earth. I could tell he wasn't concerned about my feelings, but rather about how naive and stupid I must seem. I didn't want to walk any further into the establishment than I had to, so I stuck my ground.
"N-No reason." I grew shy, knowing I had no connection to my past life on my file and not wanting him to have a clue to think I would.
"Oh?" A mischievous grin grew on my instructor's face and my senses heightened. With that, Kaga grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me down onto the bed aggressively. Even though he was only holding my wrist, I struggled to move. My heart began to race in fear of what he was trying to do. Growing up with the most erratic people as guardians, I didn't want to guess what his plan was.
"This morning was totally screwed up, thanks to you." He frowned down at me, that same demeaning look conveyed on his surprisingly handsome face. You would never guess his personality was as cruel as he was if it wasn't for the eternal crease between his brows. Feeling the anxiousness of an expected punishment, my breath gets caught in my throat.
"How do you plan on making it up to me?" His grin returned as he held my wrists harder than necessary. Despite the smirk, his eyes were cold and expressionless. There was no way I was going to allow what he was insinuating to happen, so I pushed against his hands with all my might while somehow snaking my foot high enough to push on his stomach.
However, before I could attempt to catapult him off, he covered my mouth with his hand. I looked at him like he was crazy, but because I hadn’t done much training lately, I couldn’t push him off me.
"Don't talk." He hissed, rising up from being inches away from my face. Then, I saw him pull something from my ear. It was an earpiece, making me wonder when he was able to put it there, not to mention without my knowing it was there. "This will make for a huge amount of evidence." He explained to himself. My mind, already in disarray, went into a confusion like no other. "It was worth the effort of getting it on." He looked at me suggestively as I sat up with unsure thoughts.
‘So... He didn't lead me here for something worse?’ My brows furrowed as I thought back to the moments leading up to this, embarrassed and angry that I thought it would come to that. It was concerning to see his demeanour change from what I just saw to the victorious look on his face. He looked down at me, still sitting on the bed with a dejected expression, seemingly noticing my staring.
"What're you just sitting there for?" He laughed at my appearance, my apprehension rising due to how laid back he was. Maybe it was because of where I was, but I was more sensitive to the casual restriction he just put me in. I looked away, not wanting to say something I'd regret.
Then, I felt him leaning over me and I quickly turned my gaze back to him. I panicked. His face was nearer than I expected it to be as he jerked forward. I jumped back, the memories of intimidation tactics used on me before resurfacing from my past.
"Did you really think I was being serious earlier?" He almost laughed at the notion. "Unfortunately for you, I don't have any problems with women." He inched closer again and it took everything in my being to not smack that pretty face of his. If I assaulted a detective, I would be expelled from the academy and likely arrested. Not to mention the scene it would cause being dragged out of here. "I'm not so desperate that I'd go after some inexperienced brat." He smirked before getting up from the bed, talking to me like I was the idiot.
"What did you bring me here for..." Having had the time to understand that I would be safe and de-escalate my anger, I quickly regathered myself and straightened my back. "...If not for my training?" Looking at his suited back, I started to think back to why I was actually here.
"I've got more important things to do than that useless nonsense." He explained spitefully.
‘Then why become an instructor?’ I scowled to myself, knowing full well this man had no intention of teaching anyone anything.
"Well, thanks to you so boldly choosing me, I pulled off some undercover work." He turned with another victorious smile. I was frozen silent, not knowing what would come out of this intimidating man's mouth next. Then, he pulled out his cellphone.
"It's me. Yeah... the bug was a success. I've got enough evidence, so I'm withdrawing. You keep on going, sneak in and stay on the guy's tail." When he ended the call with his subordinate, the Captain quickly headed for the door. I was still frozen, trying to calm my racing heart from the panic I was in before.
"What're you doing?" Kaga turned back to me. "Staying?" My gaze darted up at the horrifying idea.
"If you are, go search the room next door. Make sure you come back here." At the mere notion of real detective work,. Before I could say a thing, the frowning returned.
"Too bad. You're not ready." The curt response was a deep cut to my confidence. Searching a room for anything fishy was probably one of the only things I came to the academy being able to do. But, before I could speak my piece, Kaga turned and left.
~~~~~~
By that night, the long, rigorous day had completely worn me out; I'm sure my classmates also fared the same. I arrived at the dorms the academy made us stay in and threw myself onto my couch. ‘Could Kaga's mission possibly be for an investigation on my father?’ I thought back to where the excursion took place and the idea made my heart flutter. For years I had wished and prayed for retribution for all the wrong-doings my father and his goons had accomplished. The thought of his vicious crimes being aired out like dirty laundry brought a smile to my weary face.
Getting off the comfortable couch, I retrieved a box from under my bed. It was small and light; there wasn't much in it. I opened it to find loads of old photographs. Some of them were heartwarming: my twin sister and I playing around or hugging each other.
But, I’d only put them in there to hide what I was really storing: Pictures of crime scenes my father had left out in our living room or secluded garden. I once caught him in the act; that photo was in there too. I had an old tie with blood on it. A passport with a different identity than I had registered into the academy with. My mother's ring was knocking around in there somewhere.
I hardly knew my mother. There are no pictures of us together and no one talked about her after she left us. The ‘family’. She couldn't take what my father and his ‘brothers’ did any longer and ran away, leaving her two daughters behind. I'm pretty sure she's dead now. Otherwise my father would have found her at some point.
I came to realise that soon before my 18th birthday that my father didn't really care about us; he just wanted a lineage. So, I somehow convinced my sister to run with me. I assured her that I had a plan that would get us the lives we wanted for a little while. I had trained to go on the run; my father taught me all the techniques the cops used to track fugitives. That, along with a little help from a friend from my youth judo club, was all I needed to get us new identities and places to live. It wasn't easy at first, having to split from the person you had literally been with since birth. But, it was the only way to ensure one of us would be safe if the other was caught.
It was also difficult to work up a good enough resume to get myself into the police force. The name Atsuko Motomori had never existed before four years ago. It was risky to lie about the qualifications I had when, in my past life, I never gained any. I was homeschooled to ensure I wouldn't be coaxed away by true, lawful policemen investigating my father or my ‘uncles’.
Looking through these memories and reliving my awful excuse for a childhood, I happily remembered why I was condemning myself to this place and people like Captain Kaga. I wanted to make sure my sister and I would be safe. And the only way I could do that was by locking them all up for the rest of their lives.
As I mulled over the bloody scenes within the box, I heard a knock at my door. I jumped, not used to company, and knocked the box off my lap.
"Crap!" I whispered to myself, trying to clear everything away as quickly as possible.
"Who is it?" I called out after collecting most of the contents, having double-checked the area for any compromising pictures.
"Atsuko~! I come with food!" The cheery voice of my only female ally chimsed from the other side of the door.
"Naruko, what're you doing here?" I questioned while opening the door. The food she was trying to bribe me with was a pack of potato chips and a soda from the vending machines downstairs.
"I'm pooped, so I thought you might be even more worse off." The bubbly attitude helped her push herself into my dorm room.
"You're not wrong there." Happy to have some form of womanly friendship after so many years of trying to keep to myself, I lazily followed her to the couch.
"So how was it with the Satan reincarnate?" She giggled to herself, lowering her voice at the insulting part of her question. Maybe she feared he would hear her. I wouldn't be surprised if they had us under surveillance to see what we did after hours. Or if the Captain had supersonic, selective hearing.
"It was... an experience." Trying to keep up my half of the deal I made with my instructor, I put on a tired smile. Kaga promised to pass me if I didn't tell anyone he had bunked the undercover training.
"You want a drink? I think I've got some tea somewhere." Quickly attempting to change the subject, I wandered off to the small kitchenette in the corner of my room.
As I prepared the beverages, Naruko spoke up out of nowhere.
"Oh, Atsuko, what's this?" She called out and my blood ran cold. ‘Did I miss a picture? Was it something possibly incriminating?’ Wild thoughts circulated my brain at the possibility of getting caught. Having gory images of dead men stored away in my room wouldn't be easily explained.
Hesitantly, I turned with a questioning smile, just waiting for her to let out some form of horror or disgust. Instead, though, I found her looking at an old polaroid photo with a loving smile.
"You didn't tell me you had a sister!" She asked and I cocked my head, glancing at the image she waved at me. It was of my sister and I, building sandcastles on a beach when we were kids. My heart stopped as I remembered the scene.
That picture was of the day before my mother left. She had somehow convinced my father to let her take us out- which was a strange occurrence. Even if my father wasn't overbearing, which he definitely was, she didn't like going out much. It was summer and hot, and we would only annoy him, being locked in the house. I'm pretty sure I remembered at least three bodyguards surrounding our section of the sand, though.
I smiled at the painful memory, a happy one buried underneath so much hurt, and looked at the brown-haired girl with two short pigtails, dressed in a pink bathing suit. I don't think I've had a smile that big on my face in a long time.
"Well, I, uh..." Not knowing how to respond, I just made noises.
"She must be so proud of you for making it into this academy." She laughed and the statement only hurt me.
"She's not really in my life anymore." I smiled sadly sitting next to her so I could look at the picture more in-depth. I could see a sliver of a man in a suit to the left of the picture's edge, closest to where I was, and something was slightly poking out of his waistband. To Naruko, it probably looked like a shadow of a tree or something less sinister than what it was, but it was likely one of the bodyguards with a gun hidden away.
"O-Oh, I'm sorry, Atsuko." Naruko sounded so sad to hear I wasn't in contact with my sister anymore. We did look really happy in that picture.
"Nah, it's alright. That's just how life goes." I took the picture from her and looked at it for a bit longer, concentrating more on my sister's face, even though it was an exact replica of mine, before slipping it through the crack between the lid of the box and the box itself. I didn't want my new friend catching a glimpse of anything in there.
"You sound so wise," Naruko giggled, maybe trying to help me feel happier again and lighten the mood.
"You make me sound like an old man," I laughed, jokingly hitting her arm like I was offended.
"You shouldn't say such wistful things then." She laughed back as I headed back to the kettle to pour us some tea.
We chatted for a little longer, mainly about what her training had consisted of, before Naruko went back to her room. Once she was gone, I sighed, glad that the picture she had found underneath my coffee table wasn't anything more frightening. Sliding the small box back under my bed, I began getting ready for a good night's rest.
~~~~~~
Waking up the next day was... rough. Staying up later, thanks to Naruko, and the subconscious worry I’d because of what happened at the love hotel, I’d probably only got a few hours of sleep.
‘Right, I have to get today right, at least’, I told myself, throwing my legs over the side of my bed. Ishigami already had it in for me because of the train situation - I'm sure all of the special instructors did - but I wasn't going to let that stop me from doing my best. ‘For us.’ Thinking back to the picture that had been found on my floor, I used that as encouragement to continue my life as though nothing had happened.
~~~~~~
In my first class, I could see Naruko already sitting down. She commented on how she hadn't seen me in the cafeteria for breakfast. "I wonder whose fault that is?" I playfully blamed her for making me wake up late. As we continued to chat mindlessly, I couldn’t help but think back to the limited facilities the academy had for women. ‘Well, at least the food and living quarters are good.’
"The real lectures are finally going to start today." Likely having it easier than I had yesterday, Naruko had a fire of ambition in her eyes. Luckily, our first class was in the classroom and not martial arts training, otherwise her passion might hurt someone. Our lectures consisted of a wide range of expert topics ranging from using tracking equipment to how to de-escalate a situation to undercover work.
As we discussed what we would be studying here, the memory of how I was handled yesterday manifested on my wrists. I rubbed them, trying to get rid of the feeling of Kaga's hands.
"Something wrong?" Noticing my anxiousness, Naruko peered into my face. As I told her “I’m fine”, she remembered how we never talked about my experiences yesterday.
"I'm pretty sure I passed. If not, I don't think I'd still be here." I laughed off the subject, knowing how strict the instructors seemed to my friend.
"Did you hear? Students who failed were severely punished." An uneasy expression laid itself on Naruko's face and I also started to feel sympathy for those that weren't as lucky as us. As we wondered about what the punishments were, Naruko got that grin she’d had during the ceremony yesterday.
"I wonder what kind of punishment I would have gotten." The excited aura she was giving off only made a chill run down my back thinking about how much worse the Captain could be.
Intruding on my thoughts, the instructor delivering our lecture walked in and started the lesson. When it was over, I rushed to change into the attire I would need for our next bout of training on the grounds.
~~~~~~
As Naruko and I arrived on the pitch, everyone was lined up in front of Instructor Soma. He frowned at us, stating how late we were. "Sorry about that, Instructor. We took too long in the shower room." Maybe too casual with the man because of his usual laid back aura, we both bowed deeply.
"Yes, there's no women's locker room, is there?" A small smile finally returned to his face as we rose again. "It's the first time, so I'll go easy on you. But, I won't go easy on you next time." Even though he looked kind, anyone could tell he didn't give any leeway.
"There won't be a next time, sir," I replied rather confidently and the instructor almost seemed amused.
Naruko and I went to line up in the very back. The girl who couldn't seem to keep her feelings to herself whispered to me about how nice he seemed and how good looking he was. Thinking back to how Kaga treated me, I couldn't help but quietly agree. ‘There would definitely be no such leniency with him.’ I thought about all the awful punishments or torture methods the Captain could know as we continued our training.
Soma had us perform a fitness exam. We hadn't had a break since the class started when he called out my name to be tested. I stretched the pain out of my legs quickly, not wanting to cramp up.
"Woah, Atsuko! You have a scary look in your eye!" Naruko, as tired out as I was, laughed nervously. You might say I was competitive. I would say I was trying to prove my worth to the classes of men who didn't think I belonged here.
"Just tryna keep my head in the game." I jumped on my toes as the instructor called out my name again. "Coming!"
Jogging over to him, I noticed that even the guys were looking visibly tired due to our endless training. I, on the other hand, although exhausted, had trained like this since I could walk. I was used to being able to hide the physical pain in order to not get shouted at for being weak.
~~~~~~
For our last lecture of the day, feeling like I had been brought through the wringer, we all filtered into the Monitor Room. Maybe too nervous yesterday to get a good look at the room, I overheard my classmates gossiping about the surveillance equipment surrounding us. Not only were there cameras of the school grounds, but some screens showed destinations all over the country.
"Don't you think just using this room would make for an easy investigation?" Overhearing one student comment, I couldn't help but agree. Knowing how much the pictures under my bed were worth, who knows how vital a video of a crime would be to an investigation. You just needed to be able to prove they weren't doctored.
As the instructor lectured, I noticed Naruko resting on my shoulder. "Come on, Naruko. Just a bit longer." I shook her while keeping an eye out for anyone that might rat her out.
"You can talk. You're a machine, Atsuko," she whined under her breath.
Suddenly, before I could laugh at her comment, another voice spoke up behind us.
"Sasaki, go to the medical office if you're drowsy." Instructor Shinonome piped up and we both jumped to attention, having not felt anyone around us. Even though the man was grinning, there was something evil behind that childish face of his.
"Ah! S-Sorry! I'm okay!" Naruko instantly woke up at the prospect of getting punished.
"If anyone else wants to sleep, you can tell me. They put you through it on the first day, so I expect you're all tired." Shinonome's offer almost sounded like a chance to get us expelled. Or, it did to me anyway. Everyone else looked relieved at the kind sentiment.
"Okay, that's all for today's class then. Great work everyone." A cheerful smile returned to his face as I eyed him suspiciously. The man I saw in the shower room on my first day was hidden under that friendly persona he had on.
"Oh, right. Can those who I call stay after class for a moment?" And there it was! The not so innocent catch to his kind offer. Those who would be called were definitely being thrown to the wolves in order to save the rest of us.
As Shinonome began to read out the list, he directed his gaze to the monitor. He called out a few names before looking directly at me. "Lastly, Atsuko Motomori." His face had no note of malicious intent, however, I couldn't help but not trust it. As I gasped to myself, he dismissed our classmates.
"Atsuko, what did you do?" Naruko whispered as our free classmates shuffled out around us.
"I-I don't think I did anything?" I panicked, thinking back over the day, trying to find anything that could warrant me being reprimanded. Looking over to those also called, I could see they were just as nervous. Why were we the one's held back?
‘Maybe... Kaga's mission was discovered?’ I couldn't help but wonder if we’d been caught as Naruko left me sitting where I was.
"Don't be so nervous. I'm not going to get angry." The happy smile on Shinonome's face helped calm the others in the room. Even I was somewhat relieved by his words. "How were they? The lectures?" Directing his question at me, Shinonome looked over.
"Educational! It's wonderful how good the facilities are." Trying to get on his good side, I didn't want to let myself look withered as I kept my voice light.
"Well, the class seemed sleepy. Sasaki looked like she was nearly asleep." The comment didn't sit right with me, this being an elite academy and all.
"Well, as you said, they put us through it," I laughed, trying not to put Naruko in any deep water.
"So, are you going to fall asleep on us as well? I'd have to punish you then." Shinonome cast me a look that probably didn't seem like anything to the other men in the room. But, to me, it seemed as untrustworthy as the rest of him.
"Don't count on it." Not wanting to divulge my past of intense training, I just showed a soft smile. To be honest, I wouldn't mind a nap right now, but I wasn't going to admit that. The thought of any kind of punishment, which would likely be some form of harassment from him, had me on edge.
"Too bad. I wonder if any students who I can have fun with will turn up soon?" His mischievous appearance reminded me of the look Kaga gave me yesterday and my eyes darted away. Even though Shinonome seemed actually happy and there was no emotion in Kaga's eyes, the concept of teasing made me uneasy.
‘It's scary how he can talk like that and still smile.’ I thought about how his words didn't match the expression as the doors of the Monitor Room opened again.
Throwing my gaze to the door, I watched Ishigami, Goto and Soma make their way inside. "You're all immediately going to be assigned as student aides to the instructors." Ishigami didn't miss a beat as all attention landed on him.
"Simply put, you'll help the instructors file documents, prepare lectures and such," Soma added, helping the confused students out. I was shocked. I hadn't done anything special to get me a close position to any of the instructors, let alone have to deal with their grunt work. "Since we must continue our normal duties as Public Safety officers while we teach, we won't always have the time." With that comment, I finally understood why Kaga would agree to become an instructor- so he wouldn't have to do any of the work if he had a capable enough aide. I pitied the person that would have to undertake that role.
"This is good experience, so although it will be difficult, we ask that you try." The encouraging words from Soma were much more trustworthy to me than Shinonome's slightly eerie ones.
"Each instructor will get a full-time aide. Following the instructors will be an important role." Goto, as blunt as he had been at the introduction ceremony, crossed his arms as he stared down at all of us. Somehow, the silence that followed was more anxiety invoking than anything Shinonome could say. Soma was right, though. Being so close to an instructor all the time would be a perfect learning opportunity.
"We will now announce the aides," Ishigami announced, retrieving his clipboard once again. "Instructor Kaga's aide will be Atsuko Motomori." The Captain was as stoic as ever as he read out the list. I, on the other hand, couldn't be more shocked. ‘Kaga seemed so annoyed by even my mere presence yesterday, why would he want me as an aide? He already thinks I'm a screw up because of the train incident.’
"What?" Ishigami glared at me as he heard my wordless gasp.
"Nothing, sir. Sorry." I bowed my head in embarrassment of drawing attention to myself as I pondered over the events in the love hotel that could get me the chance to become an aide. ‘Is it because I chose him yesterday?’ I panicked, thinking back to the misplaced bravery I’d had when picking an instructor.
"Isn't this a good thing? You're one of the few to come back with him safely." Ayumu smirked at my worrisome state. ‘The only reason I was safe is because he didn't actually train me. There was no chance to get in harm's way. Except for the possible fallout of someone recognising me.’
"Shinonome, refrain from talking." Ishigami quickly progressed through the list of aides. Once he finished, he turned to me once again. He explained that Kaga was on an investigation mission and that I should go see him when he gets back. I hesitantly agreed, glad to have the time to prepare myself while he was out working. Unlike our permanent instructors, the guys from Public Safety weren't always around, which is probably why they need the help.
As we were dismissed, I tried to remind myself what a good learning opportunity this could be.
~~~~~~
When the time came to see Instructor Kaga, as Shinonome had told me back in the Monitor Room, I headed to their staff room.
"Excuse me." I knocked on the door before opening it to find an office-like space. Kaga was sitting at one of the many chairs at the large table in the centre of the room. I stood in front of him in order to introduce myself.
"I'm Motomori. Starting today I will be serving as your full-time aide." Straight-backed and trying to not look uncomfortable under his discerning gaze, I explained why I dared talk to him.
"Oh?" His brows frowned, once again judging me for all I was worth.
"I just came to let you know Instru-." However, before I could blame Ishigami for sending me here, I was interrupted.
"A full time aide?" He even seemed to ponder the idea before flat out rejecting me. "Useless, I have no need for an aide, so go." His blunt response threw me off a little. To be honest, I was surprised he didn't unenthusiastically jump at the idea for someone else to do his work. Losing the optimistic view of this assignment, I tried to explain that it had already been decided.
"Don't need it." He quickly interrupted me again before turning his back on me. "Tell Ishigami for me," was the final thing he said before expelling my presence from the room.
~~~~~~
‘That was rougher than I thought it was going to be,’ I thought as I stood in the hallway, looking at the door signed 'Staff Room'. ‘But, I can't afford to back down here.’ More afraid of what Ishigami would say than what Kaga could do, I raised my fist to knock on the door.
After hearing no reply, I began to get desperate. "Instructor, please!" I call out, not wanting to go back to Ishigami empty-handed.
"Shut up." The door flew open and there's Kaga, glaring down at me. The sudden action made me jump out of my skin in the silent corridor. "Let me spell this out for you since you don't seem to get it." The oncoming lecture was apparent when I felt like he was going to start insulting me for being so persistent.
"I have no need for some useless piece."
I won't lie, that statement struck home. The whole 'chessboard' way of thinking about people lower than you was exactly how my father treated us. I once confronted him about my mother's disappearance and all he could say was "she didn't know how to play the game. She's useless to us if she doesn't want to compete." That wording was something I never understood. How were you supposed to lead anyone if you didn't think anyone less than you was capable enough?
As I thought about Kaga's statement, I tried to ignore the relation to the man who raised me. "If you give me a chance, I'm sure it'll get Ishigami off your back. He'll only complain to you if I go back to him now." I tried to reason with the side of him that hated his Captain counterpart and a wave of irritation flashed through his face. "I can do anything! I can file for you. I'll even do chores. Please!" I begged, hoping I was getting through to him. Maybe the idea of a maid would make him reflect on the idea. Then, he finally looked at me without that concerned expression.
"Anything, you say?" He looked me up and down as I agreed, not thinking about the consequences of those words. Then, he narrowed his eyes and opened his mouth.
"You can be my servant." The growing smirk on his face made me a little uneasy. It was that same grin of victory he’d showed when he’d collected the evidence from the love hotel.
"Excuse me?" Was all I could utter out to ensure I’d heard him right.
"You can be my full-time servant. How many times do I have to say it?" The disconcerting frown returned as his eyebrows creased together again.
11/11/11
I was tagged by @demidemonwrites and @ezwriting. Thanks you guys and sorry this took so long to write!
I know I will be breaking the rules to some extent, but I will be answering both their sets of 11 questions here. I don’t have exactly 11 people to tag, let alone 22 at the moment haha. Sorry!
Demidemonwrites’ questions!
1) Least favorite writing trope?
I’m going to be honest, I’m not entire sure. I’ve never thought of this before. I actually went through a couple forums where people are telling their least favorite tropes to see if anything struck with me. Honestly, I couldn’t find anything. Maybe I haven’t read a lot to know what I don’t like or if I’m just not that picky. I guess if things are written well I’ll be down with anything.
I guess if I had to pick one, it would have to be “the good guy is actually the villain” trope. With Frozen I remember when I first sat down in the theater and thinking “Haha what if Hans was the villain” and then BOOM I was right. There was some other movie I watched where I called one of the good guys being the villain, but I can’t remember what it was.
2) Which of your characters are underdeveloped but you want to develope more?
My current new character for My Hero Academia, Yuriko Umeda. She’s the first character since my Marvel character, Tracey Madison, that I’m super excited to work on and write for!
3) Do you prefer writing stories or worldbuilding?
I prefer writing stories. I’ve mostly written fanfiction and gone off of worlds from fandoms. But I have recently been practicing worldbuilding by attempting to add onto the already existing worlds. I have an original story in the works, but I haven’t touched it in nearly four years. It’s there, but I’m struggling with it. Maybe one day I’ll finally figure it out. But yes, I like writing stories more so than worldbuilding at the moment.
4) Where do you do most of your writing? (In bed, at a desk, ect...)
Literally anywhere. I write on my computer and on my phone on Google Docs so writing is portable for me. I do tend to write more on my bed or on a couch. I guess somewhere where I’m comfy.
5) If you have multiple ocs, what do you do to keep all their info organized?
Hahahaha I don’t. I’m pretty sure there have been times where I created a character in my head, came back to them months or even years later and forgot what their name was. I used to write a list of characters I created (even ones that I didn’t have stories for) back in high school, but now I don’t. I guess I just remember characters I really like. If I write for them I remember them of course, but if they are characters I have in my head and create a story for them then I tend to remember those characters. Although, I probably should start keeping them organized somehow.
6) Do you write your ideas down or are they mostly in your head?
Both. I tend to come up with ideas in my head (as everyone does haha) and when I have time I write them down on my notes section of my google doc for the story. But I also have ideas written down and in my head. Small ideas come to mind every now and then that I forget about that pop back up or they are minor details that I’ll write in as I write the story.
7) What is your character(s) favorite food?
Yuriko’s favorite food is omu rice.
Tracey’s is Hawaiin pizza.
Barry’s would be fried rice.
Aria’s is cookies.
Wes likes pretzels. Crunchy or soft he loves them.
Lyra’s is meatloaf.
I haven’t thought of Barry’s, Wes’, or Lyra’s before but those popped in my head. It might change, not sure haha.
There are probably other characters that I can’t think of at the moment or characters that I haven’t written for in forever that I just omitted from this list. These are my recent projects.
8) Out of all your character, which has the best story arc?
I guess Tracey? She’s the character who I actually write a complete story for instead of abandoning it. To this day I’m not sure how I did it, but I did. I have four stories completed in the series with her in it. The second one I liked, but looking back on it there’s some stuff I’d like to change in it. But I also think with that story I was able to develop her character more after that.
9) Do you prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes?
D. All of the above. I like characters who are well written. Even if its a villain I will like their character.
10) What character have you had the longest?
My longest character would be from my very first fanfic ever, but I don’t want people looking into that one hahaha! Out of my recent characters its definitely Tracey and Barry.
11) Favorite villian trope?
This was another thing that I’ve never thought about before and once again I looked into lists of villain tropes. I think I like bad just to be bad. One of my favorite villains is Joker and he’s evil just because. Another trope (if you count it as a trope or personality) is crazy. Harley Quinn, Junko Enoshima, and Himiko Toga are happy crazy and I don’t know why, but I love characters like that.
Ezwriting’s questions!
1. Do you listen to anything while you write? Music, television, white noise, etc.
I tend to have something on in the background, whether it’s music, TV, or YouTube. I just like to have background noise. I do like to use music to picture scenes for stories. There’s been times where I’m listening to a song randomly one day and I just picture a new scene that has that song playing as background music and I just add it to a story.
2. Can you describe your favorite character? Either yours or a beloved favorite from a book or any other media – I’d just love to hear about them.
Tracey and Barry are my MCU OCs. They are the Madison twins and they’ve been with me since I was a freshman in college. So about six years or so. That may have given away my age who knows lol.
Barry worked with SHIELD and was picked up right out of high school. Tracey didn’t know what he did until the Battle of New York where she basically interrogated him on his uniform. Tracey is a hacker. She majored in Computer Science (even though I know absolutely nothing about it) and she has been playing with computers since she was a kid. She had an interest in them.
Pepper was a friend of their mom’s so that’s how they met Tony and then the Avengers through Tony. Everything just falls into place or goes down hill from there!
I’ve worked so much on them that they have become my favorites. But at this point, I’m taking a hard hiatus on them and focusing on other characters.
3. When you write, do you have any particular requirements before you can start? (Have to be a specific somewhere, need music, etc.)
Nope! If I end up writing, I’m lucky. I have the worst attention span and lack of inspiration at times that the moment I sit down and try and write I end up watching the most random videos on YouTube or scroll through Tumblr. It’s bad haha.
4. Do you prefer to be hot or cool when writing? Do you snuggle up with blankets or have fans running, or are you somewhere in - between?
I’m in between. It depends on the day. Like right now I’m fine sitting on my couch in some comfy shorts and a shirt and write. But some times my legs might get cold and I’ll lay a blanket on them. But that’s usually if it’s cold out. I’m in between.
5. What kind of writing ‘quirks’ do you have?
None. I literally sit and write. I usually have background noises I mentioned in the first question (sometimes, very rarely, will I write in silence). I might have a cup of tea or a snack, but other than those I don’t think I have any writing quirks.
6. What is your favorite book or book series?
Harry Potter, Peter and the Star Catchers, and The Truth About Forever.
7. Is there anyone who inspires your writing?
@pen-in-hand @apocalyvse They’re writing is amazing!!
8. What first got you started in writing?
I honestly can’t even remember. I think it was this anime that’s my favorite called D Gray Man. A friend got me into it late 8th grade early freshman year of high school and I loved it. I was also a major major dork back then (probably still am but not as much) and had a crush on one of the characters that I wanted to create my own to add into the story. I think one of my friends told me about ff.net and I picked up a notebook and pen and started writing.
I do remember a couple times in elementary school where I had to write short stories. One I think I still have in my junk somewhere that was about a dog wanting to be a sled dog and the other was I had to write how the Oregon Trail was made. That one I don’t have, but I think I remember I wrote about how a girl ran into a goblin in a forest and had some competition with him over something. She ended up using this basket she had and used it to create the trail.
Elementary school Mel was wild. I don’t even know how I remember that Oregon Trail one. Star Kid pick up my story and make a prequel to Trail to Oregon.
9. What would you suggest to new writers?
Just write. Even if you think it’s bad, just write and post it. Someone is going to love it. You are also your worst critic. I look back at my first fanfic and CRINGE when I think about it. But I have reviews on it. I also look back on it and realize that I have improved so much since then. You improve as you write and you can only go up. If you enjoy it, keep writing.
10. Do you prefer to write first, second or third person?
Third person for sure!
11. How do deadlines affect your writing? Do they hinder or help you?
I don’t set deadlines for myself. Unless I’m writing something for a holiday or as a present to someone. I don’t do deadlines, but I think it would either help or hinder me. It would help me sit down and write, but I also think - knowing me - that I’d procrastinate and then rush to meet the deadline. Rushing would then result in my worst work I think. Maybe. But I just don’t do deadlines. I post when I want to.
My questions
1. Do you write fanfictions or original stories and did you ever write fanfiction?
2. Did you ever write your stories in the middle of class instead of paying attention?
3. How many notebooks do you have filled with your writing?
4. What’s your favorite way to write? Notebook, Word Doc, Google Docs?
5. Do you write by yourself or do you need people writing with you?
6. Have you ever cowritten with someone?
7. Who do you bounce ideas off of?
8. Have you ever taken an experience from your life and written it into a story?
9. Favorite type of music to listen to while you write.
10. Have you ever had anyone give you “advice” that hurt you and prevented you from writing for a while?
11. Have you ever had fans of your writing pester to write a certain way?
I tag @pen-in-hand @apocalyvse @starsandstormyseas @loopally @morganwriteblr @writing-and-nutmeg @luciandra-writing @nightwingshero @scouthearted @invernessie41 @odpadkywriter @alalawrites
I did 12 instead of 11 since I had two sets of questions haha!
Two 11/11/11 Tags
Thank you to @bookenders and @dreamingofstarslight for tagging me.
1.       What’s the last book you read? What did you think of it?
The last book I read was Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I loved that book. It was such an interesting story. Is it right to kill children for their parent’s sins? Should children try to kill you if you’re trying to kill them first? These are the moral challenges that most of the main characters face, and yet there is no good answer. Neither side is wrong in their justification, but that means the bloodshed will continue for even longer.
2.       What’s the one word you always misspell even though you totally know how to spell it?
The word sword. Don’t ask me how, but somehow it always ends up as sworb.
3.       What do your OCs smell like? If you could publish your WIP with scented pages, what would you want it to smell like?
I’ll choose my top three OCs because otherwise this post would be too large for anyone to understand what was happening. Daisy smells like the middle of a thunderstorm, soaked and yet full of potential. Adrian smells like peppermint and pine in sharp contrast with each other. Lulu smells like nothing, if you get close enough to her to actually be able to try and smell a scent, you won’t be able to smell anything. For my WIP, Lost would be the actual old book that’s just opened smell; Hidden Realms would be something sweet maybe cherry pie; Destined for War should smell like smoke, just that would be perfect; and Silence would be something woody, maybe pine like Adrian.
4.       Your OC is given a pair of boots that mute the sound of their footsteps. What kind of shenanigans do they get into with these sweet new kicks?
Oh god. None of my current OCs are good enough people not to abuse this power. Adrian, Daisy, and the entire cast of Lost would use those to conquer the government and kill the queen, no question. Vivian would probably start running in whatever direction the fae weren’t in. Kairavi would start like 18 wars in under 24 hours, please don’t give her more power. She’s already started one war; I don’t need her to get ideas about more. Lulu might be the most controlled of all of them. She’d just prank her brother, granted that might lead to her brother murdering like an entire city.
5.       How did you decide on the setting for your WIP?
What setting? All of my books have large amounts of scene changes. Lost is them trying to save the entire planet, which means they have to travel the whole world. Hidden Realms initially had a setting in what was once the outskirts of the Roman Empire, now Hungary, but then they ticked off the Church, so they fled to the Americas, but then they found out about an entirely new realm with dragons and went off to that realm. Silence is going to be in some woods somewhere, but I haven’t gotten far enough to figure that out. It starts in NYC. Destined for War starts in Pakistan, but ends in the realm of Gods that doesn’t currently have a name.
6.       Your OCs are given a vast array of finger paints. What do they create?
I’ll do my top three again because this is already a super large post. Adrian would likely draw the winter palace and the family he left behind there. There would probably be tear marks on the page, he’ll deny them, but they’re there. Daisy would probably throw the paint on the page and create some abstract mess to call art. Lulu would spend hours making sure she got every detail of Octavian mapped out on canvas, again. She’s done this before. Like every time she has free time. Don’t worry about why she draws him on repeat. (author moves out of view)
7.       How many times do you rewrite a draft? Or, how many drafts of a story do you go through before arriving at the final draft? Which story has/had the most drafts?
Gosh I don’t know. Lost is the only one I’ve finished the first draft for because I just started writing last year, so I’m planning on 7 drafts. I don’t know if I’ll keep that plan.
8.       What’s your favorite line from your least favorite book? Or, what is your least favorite line from your favorite book?
Least favorite line from my favorite book is actually in Harry Potter from Albus Dumbledore when he says “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy?”. I don’t disagree with the principle of the quote. In fact I agree that it is a choice most people will have to make. But I can not stress this enough. This burden falls on adults, not children. If you make a child make this choice, I will come find you and beat the absolute shit out of you. Children should not have to fight wars that their parents started before they even reach adulthood. Mini rant over.
9.       What questions do you ask yourself when drafting a WIP?
So I don’t generally start a draft until I know what all the major events are and what order they are occurring in. That means I tend to ask myself: what is the plot? Why do my characters give a shit? What am I doing to these poor characters? Generally, the answer is just pain. I like putting my characters through a whole lot of shit.
10.  A fellow writer once said that “we’ve all trapped Sims in the swimming pool.” What are the “trapping Sims in the pool” moments in your stories?
Oh my god. In Hidden Realms, I killed a character in order to force the issue of the Holy Roman Empire to attack our main characters. Only I realized after I wrote that, that it meant one point of view wasn’t going to cut it when half the plot takes place after death. I had to go change the entire story to have 6 point of views. I’m still screaming at myself.
11.  What’s your favorite bad metaphor?
She had brown eyes like mud. (yes I know this is a simile, but still.)
12.  Do you have any pets in you WIP(s)??
Daisy has a pet raven, and a pet mountain lion. I mean they’re not really pets, so much as companions, but it counts. I think Vivian has a fish in her office, but like it doesn’t have a name and her brother is the one who feeds it, so does it count?
13.  How many story names have you gone through so far?
Lost was always Lost. Hidden Realms didn’t have a title for about a year, then suddenly one of my friends started referring to it as the book series in which all the realms are found, and then Hidden Realms became the title. It’s the title of the series though. The first book is called the “The merging of Realms.” (The readers won’t understand its meaning until the second book, but that’s called foreshadowing.) The Destined series came about because of a moodboard made for the main character where someone summarized her as Destined for War and I went “oh that’s perfect for the whole series.” Silence is a shitty placement title, so I can refer to the book. It definitely won’t be marketed as that. If you have suggestions for it, please tell me.
14.  Are there any important bodies of water in your story??
We cross the ocean in like all of them, so yes. All the oceans. Just all of them. A couple important rivers too.
15.  Describe an oc with ten or less words,,,
Daisy: A wild fae with anger management issues.
Adrian: A prince who really wants family but never succeeds.
Lulu: A vampire with a human fiancé and twin witch children.
16.  What was the inspo behind your story’s name?
Haha. I kind of answered those in question 13 except for Lost. Lost is a book about children choosing a revolution that will almost certainly kill them in order to save a world that was lost centuries if not millenniums before they were born. So they are Lost ones. The title should be Lost.
17.  What’s the most you’ve written in one day?
If you mean new words, I once hand-wrote five chapters in an 8 hour car ride to avoid dealing with grief. If you mean most written period, I typed 31,756 words in three hours from a journal I had hand-written it in.
18.  Are there any couples in your story that you find really cute??
Lulu and Octavian are goals. Daisy and Leahsidhe are my baby lesbians, who definitely don’t get a happy ending. Please don’t ship them. It does not end well. I’m a terrible person.
19.  Do any of your pc’s have allergies? If so, what??
Do any of them have allergies? I have a gut feeling Balthazar has some allergies, but he is not fully developed yet, so I can’t easily tell you what they are. Its some kind of plant. We’re going to find out when they move to the woods.
20.  Is there any lgbt+ rep in your story?
There is a shit ton. I am lgbt+, so are the vast majority of my characters. Adrian is asexual. Daisy is pansexual. Leahsidhe is bisexual. Ruby is lesbian. Suno and Balthazar are gay. Those are the ones who have names. I have ideas for other works that have so many sexualities, its going to be an adventure.
21.  Do any of your oc’s have tattoos?
Rose has an entire sleeve on both arms. They’re for all the 28 of the members of the revolution. When Daisy’s baby is born, she adds one for her too. Its one of the only happy scenes in Lost. (author runs away)
22.  What’s your favourite friend pairing trope?
Friend pairing trope. Being able to communicate without talking. I love that shit.
 My questions for people:
1.       Who is your favorite OC?
2.       How many WIPs do you have?
3.       How often do you write?
4.       Why did you get into writing?
5.       Have you created any moodboards for your work and if so what are they?
6.       Where do you write most?
7.       What’s your favorite part of writing?
8.       What is your favorite quote?
9.       Are there any authors who inspired you to start writing?
10.  If you had to publish one of your WIPs right now with no more editing, what would you choose?
11.  What is your favorite genre?
Note
Fallane and Eliza Fate, please
Alright, these two are from different ‘verses just fyi. so any supernatural elements are very, very different, as well as social situations.
WARNING: Fallane’s contains reference to some things that might be triggering. nothing in-detail, but please be advised.
Full Name: Fallane
Gender and Sexuality:
 male-ish but with a rising intonation and a hand-wiggly gesture. sexuality is definitely just a hand-wiggly gesture, we think he has a slight preference for men but tbh no one cares
Pronouns:
 he/him. if you used other ones he probably wouldn’t object but if you asked he’d say ‘he/him’
Ethnicity/Species:
 Egyptian. and he’s like,,, vaguely a demon but not actually. he’s
supposed
 to be one of the generals/servants/sextoys/whatever of AN ASSHOLE who reincarnates every 30 years or so, possesses a young girl, and makes everyone’s life hell but he said ‘nope that’ and (mostly) left. so he’s not actually a demon but that’s what his kind got characterized as by various mortals and usually he doesn’t correct people
Birthplace and Birthdate:
 like literal ancient egypt in like 2,700 bc or smth
Guilty Pleasures:
 I don’t think he’s guilty about any of his pleasures.
that came out way more sexual than I intended
I just meant that he likes things and he’s not ashamed of it
Phobias:
 ahhhh this ‘verse is so dark help. I’d say sexual assault is pretty high on the list. I think he’s also a bit claustrophobic. more than a bit. he’s very claustrophobic he just doesn’t get into many situations like that
What They Would Be Famous For:
 he could be a model? like actually. he wouldn’t but he
could
. he’s got a wicked fashion sense and is really good at makeup. ooh he could model makeup too
What They Would Get Arrested For:
 can u get arrested for smoking indoors? he would. or shoplifting. he likes petty crime because either a) ‘this shouldn’t be privately owned and private ownership is just a social construct’ or b) ‘haha what are u gonna do, catch me?’
OC You Ship Them With:
 Sam!! Sam Reeve x Fallane is best ship. you could also ship him with Kai but Sam is most perfectest. I made a ship name for them but it’s lame and I’m not sharing unless u dm me. I also ship Fallane with a healthy lifestyle but that’s never gonna be canon so
OC Most Likely To Murder Them:
 does Nara canonically murdering him count? there r a lot of ppl who want to murder Fallane so I feel like this is an unfair question. Kai genuinely hates him for a large part of the story. ahaha Kai canonically kills him too jesus christ Fallane you’ve been killed three times you gotta chill. but I think Nara would be more likely to succeed than Kai so. the answer I pick is Nara. in a sarcastic way tho it’d be Mista, who is so done with his shit and she’s the type to say ‘im going to murder you’ when he like, puts his feet on the table or something
Favorite Movie/Book Genre:
 mystery? anything he can sarcastically criticize the plot of, tbh. maybe horror
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche:
 if he’s a horror fan, then it’d be where any time someone says ‘dont do this’ the person does it and dies. I think he definitely dislikes the ‘aliens are always technological experts’ cliche like what if the explorers are anthropologists with no clue how their ship works?? did you ever think of that?? no you didn’t
Talents and/or Powers:
 his main talent is sarcasm. he’s very gifted with picking up languages and accents, and he has a high appreciation for all forms of art. in the supernatural realm, he’s got a lot. he’s a natural low-level empath, and then he got powers on top of that, which made him nigh immortal, gave him rly cool wings, and magical charisma (which is like subconscious suggestion, except,, magic) which he mostly uses to convince people he’s paid for shit he
hasn’t
 paid for. in the name of disabling capitalism, of course, and not because he just wants the pillow. then he’s also got some extradimensional abilities which are often interpreted as a kind of telekinesis but isn’t technically. and his empathic abilities get turned up to eleven until he can project so hard he can accidentally (or purposefully) kill someone
Why Someone Might Love Them:
 if you’re about grey moralities, ambiguity, and anti-heroes, you’ll probably love Fallane. he’s also very protective, and a single dad of energetic twins so there’s no shortage of relatability, either. but I think a lot of his charm comes from his interactions with other characters, because he feels very strongly and brings many things other characters are afraid to say. there’s a weighty sense of honesty with him, and a real desire to do right by the world and help the downtrodden. he also struggles with trauma and mental illness and he’s really, really messed up but he
tries
 and sometimes he fails and I think people will find a surprising amount to identify with. Fallane is my ultimate walking contradiction, but I think it works.
Why Someone Might Hate Them:
 I feel like he’s a character people would be just indifferent toward UNTIL people started being apologists and saying he does nothing wrong and then he’d be one of those characters that the fandom just splits on, as polarizing ends get increasingly more argumentative. he can be manipulative too and I think people might take issue with things like that, but I feel like most people who would actively hate him would be misinterpreting him. he’s not supposed to be a paragon of good morality
How They Change:
 in the first few waves of this ‘verse Fallane was a definite villain, if a hero-aiding anti-villain. then I decided villains were overrated and now there’s no villains, just a complicated mess of varying degrees of grey morality. in canon, this is reflected. he goes from a certain ‘I can’t do anything substantial about it so I just won’t bother’ to someone who
acts
 on his desire to combat discrimination and abuse. he also gets his family back, and gains a little sister, and he’s constantly learning how to love (in every way) and how to
live
.
Why You Love Them:
honestly?
because
 he’s learning how to live. much of Fallane’s backstory (and his role-switch from anti-villain to anti-hero) came from when I got over being suicidal, so he’s sometimes a comfort character. ngl, I also love his aesthetic. I’m also a bit biased because he has ocd and I have ocd and that’s relatable too and it makes his aesthetic
extra
 relatable. he’s also incredibly emotional and that’s always an adventure to write. I really love Fallane guys.
also this ao3 tag is like the greatest descriptor of him:
Tumblr media
Full Name: Eliza Fate
Gender and Sexuality:
female, bisexual
Pronouns
: She/Her
Ethnicity/Species:
English. and she’s a vampire so uh yea
Birthplace and Birthdate:
England and uh….. like…. idk….. a long time ago
Guilty Pleasures:
both slow and fast jazz music. also she’s surprisingly good with children - I like to think that sometimes, she volunteers at daycare-like-places in the shadier parts of town where there’s too many kids and not enough workers and she just helps out these toddlers and teaches them to jazz dance, the way you teach little kids anything, which is hold them and pretend they’re following anything you’re saying
Phobias:
I don’t think she’s phobic of anything, but she’s afraid of losing her family. they’re very important to her and I think her deepest fear is that someday she’s going to wake up completely alone. she’s not afraid of any one person leaving (obviously she’d be upset), it’s just the idea that
everyone
 could disappear
What They Would Be Famous For:
she’s kind of famous within the criminal underworld because she’s like a mob boss, and she’s mostly famous for having a very large family, and for being independent. she went almost two centuries without a right-hand man/woman/etc which, especially as a woman, was quite unique
What They Would Get Arrested For:
I mean she already murders ppl and runs a mafia so that
could
 get her arrested, but if she ever got caught it’d probably be something like she murdered a child abuser or something really,
really
 violently and not well-planned
OC You Ship Them With:
 Itsuki, who’s her canon boyfriend, and Andrea, who’s her canon girlfriend. she’s poly and her relationships are usually open relationships, including with those two. I also ship her hardcore with Katsumi, although that’s a very different dynamic (1960s lots of drugs and alcohol and free sex and it’s about pushing each other further and further and not always healthy but they know that and it’s okay). I feel like Eliza would be really great for romance fanfic because you can go with many time periods!
OC Most Likely To Murder Them:
 Rin. boi Rin has wanted to murder her since he met her probably, he just hated her on principle and then Eliza went and decided she liked Itsuki so Rin hated that and
then
 she started dating Katsumi too and so she’s in love with both his roommates and that pisses Rin off. it’s funny.
actually it’s often really depressing because they end up blaming each other for Katsumi’s death and just about everything else and I think Rin might actually wish she had never existed but
usually it’s a sarcastic ‘I would murder you right now Eliza I swear’
Favorite Movie/Book Genre:
 slice of life. I think she likes the variety and the normalcy of it all, and she usually thinks the couples are cute. her least favorite genre is probably mystery
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche:
 love triangles. they’re way, way overdone. also they invalidate the possibility of poly or open relationships. on a less serious note, she hates any mystery story that ends with like ‘the detective was the culprit all along!’ there’s not really a reason why she hates that but. she does. I made her I make the rules
Talents and/or Powers:
 powers: well, she’s a vampire. talents: charisma. she is very good at getting people to understand her viewpoint, when she puts her foot down on something, which is rare. she’s also good at dancing. and very good at sex too apparently. she’s good with children too! but only really smol ones, once they get above like 5 they’re usually assholes
Why Someone Might Love Them:
 she’s strong, and independent, and I think she’s over all a good person. she doesn’t take shit from people, but she doesn’t assume that people
are
 giving her shit. she’s quite easy-going, all-in-all. she’s also really loving to her family, and in many ways she fulfills feminine roles, but the way she does them and the way she thinks about them are empowering, I think
Why Someone Might Hate Them:
 when Eliza was first conceptualized in mid high school, I was terrified that people would see her as bad representation because she’s not morally straight
and
 I worried that making her bi and poly would make people angry. but I think I’ve mostly gotten past that? idk. but I definitely think people might dislike her for her constant relationships - she doesn’t do well if she doesn’t have at least one datemate, and people might see that as too dependent or needy. she sometimes comes across as needy, so there’s that. I think there’d definitely be Eliza Fate stans and Eliza Fate haters
How They Change:
 you get to see her progression from the civil rights era to present day, and she does change a bit, but overall she’s one of the most stable characters in this ‘verse. she really learns to accept rejection, and since she adopts a literal child (Nayeli) into her family and doesn’t raise Nayeli with any expectations of her joining the Family, I think she learns to work with people during their formative adolescent years, too
Why You Love Them:
Eliza is a character from the second wave of this ‘verse, so she’s quite old to have changed so little. I also love how she can differ depending on the time, so her roles change depending on the context. her personality doesn’t really change between any of them, but she’s a very complex character (a side effect of having been in my head for at least 5 years) and you can actually
see
 all her facets. also she’s a mob boss mom??? like that’s cool idk she’s super suave and i’m gay
Ye Xiu looked up at the large fence surrounding the mansion. It was quite a formidable fence, about 3 meters tall and made of wrought iron. It wasn’t like him to be apprehensive though, so he paid no mind and found the intercom at the entrance of the gates.
“Hello? Anybody home? It’s Ye Xiu. I’ll be living here from now on. Please take care of me~”
Ye Xiu waited for an answer but nothing came out. The gates swung open though, meaning that at least someone was home.
“How rude. Not even greeting me.” Well, whatever. He picked up his luggage and the carrying case and headed up the long driveway to the mansion.
Ye Xiu was no stranger to mansions. He had grown up in one after all. He would have rather stayed in his own mansion, but his (rich) father had insisted that he up and move to his new (rich) step-mother’s mansion instead, to live with her family. (“You can’t just stay in your room and play computer games all day! Go socialize with kids your own age!”) He had been informed that he would be obtaining 9 new step-brothers. Honestly! Wasn’t this too much of a jump? Going from being an only child to one of ten was just ridiculous! What if he had to actually spend time with them and he was unable to play Glory?!
Thinking about it was just too much, so the most Ye Xiu could do was just move onward. He reached the large doors and was about to knock, when they swung open. Again, there was no one there.
“Well that’s not creepy at all.”
He left his shoes at the door and padded around in his socks, wandering to what looked like the main living area. What surprised him was not the stylish and chic living room furniture, but the table of nine desktop computers in the middle of the room.
“Wait, is that a Glory card reader?”
“Why yes it is.”
Ye Xiu jumped at the sudden voice from behind him. It was a tall older man with uneven eyes. Ye Qiu mewled a complaint at the sudden jostling from inside his crate.
The man stifled a laugh. “Sorry about that. I’m Wang Jiexi.”
Ye Xiu gazed at him curiously. “I’m Ye Xiu. I take it you’re one of my new brothers?”
Wang Jiexi nodded. “You’re 18 right? So that makes me your older brother by 5 years.”
Ye Xiu bowed his head slightly. “Please take care of me, gege.”
Wang Jiexi smiled. “No need to be formal in this house. I’m sure the others will say the same.”
“Big-eyed Wang then. Nihao.”
Wang Jiexi’s eyes widened comically, only emphasizing the size difference. “Hey!”
Ye Xiu only hid a half-laugh behind a hand and apologized and then turned to the more important thing in the room.
“So you guys all play Glory?” he asked excitedly. “You any good?”
“Everyone except Sun Xiang. We’ve tried getting him to play, but he says he’s not very interested. And I’d call myself good if I say so myself.”
“Oh yeah? What’s your username?”
Wang Jiexi gave him a lopsided smile. It made Ye Xiu’s heart thump a little bit. “Haha. Guess.”
Ye Xiu couldn’t even get one guess out when he spied a large looming figure out of the corner of his eye. He quickly darted behind Wang JieXi and peered out at this huge person.
“Oh Good. You’re here.” The man said gruffly. “I’ll call for the others.”
“That’s Han Wenqing. He’s the eldest of us brothers. He looks scary, but he’s a reliable person.”
“Hmmph, he looks more like some sort of boxer that could and would smash your teeth out.”
Wang Jiexi laughed again. “That’s because he is one. Er the boxer part. Not the teeth smashing part.”
“Wonderful.”
Just then a large crash came from the stairwell. “Ye Xiu! Ye Qiu! Where are you? How old are you? Huh? Huh? Are you older or younger than me? Do you two want to share a room with me? It’d be like a cool sleepover and we could play Glory all night? Do you play Glory? Are you good at all? Let’s PK! PKPKPK!”
Wang Jiexi sighed. “And that’s Huang Shaotian. He’s the youngest after Sun Xiang.”
Another older man with blue black locks came down slowly after the explosion of words that was Huang Shaotian. “Shaotian. Don’t overwhelm him with questions.” He turned to Ye Xiu and smiled warmly. “Hello Ye Xiu. I’m Yu Wenzhou.”
Huang Shaotian was not looking at Ye Xiu but peering behind him and looking confused. “If this is Ye Xiu, where is Ye Qiu?”
Ye Xiu bent down and let Ye Qiu out of the carrier. The black cat rubbed up against his legs and then hopped onto his shoulders. “This is Ye Qiu. He’s been with me since I was small.”
Huang Shaotian offered the cat a finger. Ye Qiu sniffed at it and proceeded to rub his cheeks on it, purring. “Huh. From the way it sounded from step-father, I thought Ye Qiu was your twin or something.”
“He does say I’m like a cat sometimes.”
“Hmm, well I’m a little disappointed that he isn’t your twin. I wouldn’t mind having two pieces of eyecandy to look at.”
Ye Xiu went red.
Yu Wenzhou bonked him on the head. “Shaotian. Have a little tact. Ye Xiu is your older brother after all.”
“F*ck! So he’s older? He’s so pretty I thought he was younger.”
Yu Wenzhou and Wang Jiexi sighed in tandem.
“Well, I guess I can’t disagree,” Yu Wenzhou said with a smirk.
Ye Xiu’s blush crept up his ears.
Wang Jiexi coughed, but wouldn’t look Ye Xiu in the eyes either.
Huang Shaotian smirked and grabbed Ye Xiu’s hand and started forcefully dragging him to the dining area. Ye Qiu gracefully leapt off his shoulder as they exited the living area.
“Come, come. We’re meeting in the dining room!”
“Woah, slow down a bit.”
Ye Xiu was being dragged so fast he couldn’t quite keep up and kept stumbling.
“Ah!” He suddenly tripped over a large metal object. He closed his eyes before he could hit the ground.
When he opened his eyes, he wasn’t in pain sprawled on the ground, but was in another person’s arms?
“I got you.”
The person had caught him by the waist and slowly helped him up.
“You’re not hurt are you? I keep telling Xiao Shiqin to put his robots and stuff away.”
“No, you caught me before I fell. Thanks.” Ye Xiu embarrassedly brushed himself off and finally got a look at the man who had helped him off.
The man wore his long reddish hair in a low ponytail. The man winked and pulled out a rose blossom out of nowhere, offering it to Ye Xiu.
“No problem, darling. Zhang Jiale, at your service.”
Ye Xiu embarrassedly accepted the flower and tried to hide his blush by turning to put the rose in one of the vases on the table. Sprawled on the table, surrounded by bits of metal and wire was another person, sleeping.
Zhang Jiale huffed. “Xiao Shiqin! Wake up! You almost killed our new brother!”
Ye Xiu sweatdropped.
“Wha-huh?” Xiao Shiqin looked up blearily. “Sorry, I just-” he yawned widely, “am so tired. I-” he locked eyes with Ye Xiu and froze mid-yawn. “I’m still dreaming, aren’t I?”
Huang Shaotian yelled out excitedly, “You sure aren’t! Can you believe it? Huh? This is Ye Xiu! And the cat is Ye Qiu! I didn’t know that before did you? He’s our new brother! Ye Xiu that is- not the cat. Although some people do say their pets are like family? So maybe that means we did get two brothers after all?”
Yu Wenzhou and Wang Jiexi entered the room from behind them.
“Shaotian, you should apologize as well. It’s your fault that you were going too fast.”
“Whoops, sorry.”
“I’m sorry as well.” Xiao Shiqin stretched and got up from his position at the table. He began clearing away the scraps on the table and put them into a hatch on the metal thing Ye Xiu had tripped on.
“This is a robot that I’m making. I haven’t finished it yet though, so it’s not much to look at.” He offered Ye Xiu a hand, and Ye Xiu accepted it. “I’m Xiao Shiqin.”
They shook hands, and Ye Xiu also introduced himself. They stood like that for a second.
“Uh, you can let go now.”
“Oh!” Xiao Shiqin abruptly dropped his hand. “Sorry, it’s just… you have really nice hands…”
“I noticed that too.”
“Aren’t they beautiful?”
“…”
Another person had silently arrived from behind Yu Wenzhou and Wang Jiexi.
Ye Xiu turned to look at the newcomer to introduce himself, but was rendered speechless. The person in question was incredibly handsome! And he looked slightly familiar…
“You’re that McDonald’s model! Er… Zhou Zailai?”
“… Zekai.” he corrected, but gave Ye Xiu a radiant smile nonetheless.
Ye Xiu had to look away. Zhou Zekai was too shiny.
“Let’s all sit and wait for the others to come,” Wang Jiexi suggested.
Huang Shaotian pulled Ye Xiu over to the head of the table by the arm and sat down beside him. “I call dibs on the right!”
Zhang Jiale pulled out the chair at the head of the table and gestured for Ye Xiu to sit. Before Zhang Jiale could grab the seat on his left, Zhou Zekai had quietly snatched it up.
“…Dibs.” he said with a small smile.
Zhang Jiale pouted, but had to settle for the next seat over.
The chairs were soon almost filled. Ye Qiu had wandered over from the living room and hopped onto Ye Xiu’s lap. He gave a purr as Ye Xiu stroked the cat’s back.
Huang Shaotian was chattering animatedly to anyone and everyone, every so often directing a question to Ye Xiu. He followed Yu Wenzhou’s lead and answered with non-committal hums and uh-huhs, not really listening. Huang Shaotian kept asking Zhou Zekai questions as well, but always ended up cutting him off before he could give an answer. Xiao Shiqin had taken out some of his things and  had started tinkering with them slowly spreading out his mess to the other parts of the table and Zhang Jiale had taken to playing with the random gears that came his way. Wang Jiexi had taken out a plant magazine from who knows where and was looking up decorative cacti.
When the clock struck 4’o clock exactly, another brother stepped through the door. He crossed the room efficiently and met Ye Xiu at the head of the table.
“Ye Xiu,” he greeted, sticking out his hand. Ye Xiu took it. “I am Zhang Xinjie. It’s nice to meet you. I’m your older brother by three years.”
“Nice to meet you.” He gave him a lazy smile. “As you know, I’m Ye Xiu, and this is Ye Qiu.”
Zhang Xinjie gave the cat a rub behind the ears. The cat leaned into his touch and purred contently. “He’s a cute cat. Just like his owner.” He pulled away his hand from Ye Qiu’s head to lay it on Ye Xiu’s to give him a head pat.
Ye Xiu felt his face flush.
“Hmm? You’re a little red. Are you getting sick?”
Zhang Xinjie brushed Ye Xiu’s bangs away from his face and bent down to press his own forehead to his. Ye Xiu could feel himself getting hotter.
“Well, it doesn’t seem like you have a fever. If you’re ever feeling unwell, feel free to come to me. I’m studying to become a doctor.”
Ye Xiu nodded looking at his lap, not trusting his voice to not make a squeaking noise. As a result, he wasn’t able to see the piercing glares the other brothers sent toward Zhang Xinjie nor the man’s smirk in response.
Zhang Xinjie went to sit at his place at the table and finally there were only two chairs left.
He heard the last two before he saw them.
“What’s wrong with you? Don’t you want to meet your new brother?” a growl came out from the other room.
“Hmph! What’s one more older brother when you already have eight?!!”
In came Han Wenqing dragging the youngest in by the collar. He was unceremoniously shoved into a chair, and the last one at the other head of the table was taken by Han Wenqing.
“Ye Xiu.” He was acknowledged by the oldest brother. He jerked his head toward the sulking blond. “That’s Sun Xiang. It’s nice to meet you, isn’t it xiao Xiang?”
“Yeah, yeah. Nice to meet you or whatever.”
“You are welcome in our family.”
Sun Xiang rolled his eyes.
“Thank you, gege.” He nodded his head toward the elder. “I’ve just been getting to know everyone a little bit.” He then excitedly addressed the question he had been keeping since the beginning. He was so happy to talk about his baby. “So I hear you all play Glory?”
Han Wenqing huffed a small laugh. “Play Glory? Oh we do much more than just play. What’s your username, didi?”
Ye Xiu smiled and tilted his head coyly (read: cutely). “One Autumn Leaf.”
Sun Xiang suddenly stood up, almost knocking over his chair in the process.
“You mean you’re the number one battle mage One Autumn Leaf, also known as the Battle God?!”
“The one and only. Also, I thought you didn’t play Glory?”
Sun Xiang sat back down and crossed his arms. “I- I don’t! I wouldn’t play even if I was paid to! It’s just ‘cause living in this house full of Glory geeks that I know!”
“Er… Okay then.”
Huang Shaotian was whisper yelling into Yu Wenzhou’s ear, “Oh My God! I can’t believe he’s hot and he’s a top tier Glory god! This is the best!”
Meanwhile, Han Wenqing’s eyes were sparkling with something like hunger. Or maybe lust.
“So we finally meet in person, One Autumn Leaf.”
“Do I know you? Are you on my friend list or something?”
Han Wenqing smirked.
“Desert Dust.”
“What?”
“I’m Desert Dust.”
“Wait. You mean my new elder brother is my so called “number one rival”?”
“Hey don’t forget me! I’m Troubling Rain!!”
“Swooksaar.”
“Vaccaria.”
“Life Extinguisher.”
“Immovable Rock.”
“Dazzling Hundred Blossoms!”
“… Cloud Piercer.”
“…F*ck. What kind of house is this?” Ye Xiu stared at the brothers, gaping. How could it be that all (minus one) of his new brothers were all gods?
“Come on, come on! Let’s PK! PKPKPK!!” Huang Shaotian burst out excitedly.
“Tournament style maybe? I’ll sit out though, since I’m a cleric,” suggested Zhang Xinjie.
“I’ll watch. N-not that I’m interested in the Battle God or anything! I just want to see you guys get pummeled!” exclaimed Sun Xiang.
Han Wenqing had gotten up from his chair and swiftly crossed the room to the other side of the table. He scooped up Ye Xiu, bridal style, with Ye Qiu still in his lap.
“W-wait! Put me down!” He wrapped his arms around the older man’s neck, hanging on for dear life.
“We settle this now. Don’t struggle.”
And Han Wenqing walked off carrying a blushing Ye Xiu leaving the others to follow behind.
Those competing looked at one another and nodded in silent agreement.
Whoever wins gets the first date with him.
«Bonjour, comment ça va?» You mumbled. The sight of the snowy mountains was breathtaking. France, the world-known country. Your family had decided to take a trip to La Rosière, a ski resort in France, to celebrate Christmas. You and your siblings had been excited about the trip since you found out. For weeks, your sisters had tried to learn some word of the romantic language, French. Suddenly, you wished you had decided to learn French instead of Spanish. «Les Montagnes sont jolies!»
«Oui!» your older sister, Amber, exclaimed. You were the youngest girl in the family, with two older sisters and your parents. You hadn’t seen your oldest sister, Samantha, since August because she studied at college.
You sat on the left side in the passenger’s seat in a car your parents rented. Looking out of the window, you could see the mountains covered by snow. It was a wonderful view, and you couldn’t wait to learn more skiing. You were to focused on the mountains, that you were shocked when you found out you had arrived the ski resort.
Your parents left the car to the hobby, to pick up the keys to your rented cabin. You and your sister remained in the car. You decided to go out and stretch your legs. The air was cold, and your hands froze immediately. You went some steps while trying to find your gloves in your pocket, then someone hit you. You fell down on the cold and snowy ground. «Ouch!»
«Oh, pardon…..ugh…I’m sorry. I was in a hurry and didn’t see you.» A guy excused. British, he had a British accent. You had a soft spot for Brits and their accent. He grabbed your hand and lifted you up. His face was only inches away from yours. The mystery guy had brown hair and chocolate coloured eyes. His face was covered in freckles. «Forgive me.»
«No, It wasn’t your fault, I didn’t see where I was going.» You smiled at the cute guy. You took a step back. The guy still held your hand but didn’t notice. «I’m (your name).»
The guy took some seconds before he realized he hadn’t said anything back. «I’m Sam.» He smiled and tried to shake your hand when he realized he still held your hand. Sam let go of your arm right away. You both blushed. «I’ll hope to meet you another time, dear,» Sam said before he went on his way towards the lobby. You stood frozen on the spot, trying to figure out what just had happened.
«Ooo, who was that guy?» Your sister Samantha teased. You pouted in response and went to the car again. Amber and Samantha teased you about Sam until your parents arrived back to the car with the keys.
Through the rest of the day, Sam kept popping up in your mind. There was no doubt he was handsome, but he seemed like a really nice guy. You hoped to meet him again soon.
On the other side of the ski resort, Sam sat with his colleagues eating late dinner. He was a ski instructor and had been occupied by work. While his friends were joking around, Sam kept thinking about the girl he had bumped into earlier. He felt sparks inside him by thinking about her.
«Are you ready for skiing?!» your sisters screamed the next morning. Samantha and Amber loved to wake you up by screaming into your ear, and it was their favourite way to wake you up.
Your parents had assigned you and your sisters up for skiing lessons, and unfortunately, they started at 10 am. Due to the jet-lag, it felt like waking up in the middle of the night. Easily said, you were not happy but very grumpy.
You had been assigned to a group of four persons with the instructor called Ben. It had been years since you were skiing, but you did not remember anything. You kept falling and colliding on trees, even Ben face-palmed. He had no clue how to teach you.
After a long and tiring day of training, you still managed to fall every three seconds on the skis. You knew you were horrible, and so did your sisters. Amber and Samantha was some of your best friends, but also worst enemies when they teased you. You sat currently at a table in the lobby by the public fireplace, drinking hot chocolate. You were tired of your sisters teasing and decided to have some peaceful moments for yourself.
On the corner on the other side, Sam sat with his friends and colleagues celebrating another day done. It was a week until Christmas and Sam missed his twin and family, but most his dog Tessa.
Suddenly, he saw a glimpse of you sitting in an armchair by the fireplace. He stared at your beautiful face and admired how calm you looked. His friends later saw the brother of spider-man staring at a girl. «Dude, you gotta’ stop staring at her before it gets too creepy!» Sam laughed at his friend reference from his brother’s spider-man movie.
«Woah, that girl is actually in my skiing class. She’s horrible, and I don’t know how to teach her.» Ben said, and the others around the table laughed. Sam didn’t even know you well but felt angry about how his friend mocked her. He left the table and went straight ahead towards you. His friends looked at him, wondering what he would do.
«Hi, is it available here?» Sam asked you from behind. You were first shocked to hear his voice, but when you saw his face you relaxed. In response, you nodded and signalized him to sit on the couch next by. «Nice to meet you again, (your name).»
You smiled at Sam. «A pleasure to see you again, Sam. And sorry for yesterday, I didn’t mean bumping you.»
«No need to be sorry, love. Luckily, I didn’t come late to my skiing class.» Sam replied and rested on the couch. You looked confused at Sam. «I’m a trainer here, and I learn tourists how to ski!» He explained. You nodded back and went back to staring at the fire.
«Are you going to spend Christmas here, Sam?» You asked. You didn’t mean to seem curious, but somehow you felt a bond with the British boy.
«Yes, and all by myself, or well I have my friends and colleagues,» Sam smirked. «Work here doe really pay off, especially when I meet girls like you.» You blushed and smiled at his reply. «I was wondering if you would join me tomorrow, maybe skiing and lunch?» He suggested.
Your smile faded, remembering you sucked at skiing. «I’d love to, but I’m horrible at skiing.» You said honestly.
«Hey, I bet you’re not as bad as you think. And if so, I can learn you. I don’t have any classes tomorrow.» Sam suggested and tried to encourage you.
You smiled and agreed. Even if you only had known him for less than an hour, unless the incident yesterday, you felt like you had known him for years. You and Sam had the same interests, and you could talk to each other for hours. He was perfect.
The next day, he waited for you outside the lobby with skis and rods in his hands. He held his helmet in his left hand. He had waited for you, and he couldn’t wait to spend time with you. Sam had a feeling inside him, that every time you looked in his eyes, sparks would fly inside him. He didn’t know what the feeling was called but would learn later.
Surprisingly, you were better at skiing that day. You didn’t fall often, and if you did, Sam would catch you in his arms. After some hours of skiing, you would take a break and have lunch in the cafe. He ordered tea, while you ordered hot chocolate. Days like that continued until Christmas Eve.
When Christmas Eve arrived, you and Sam had spent a week together. During that time, you had learned about his family and sometimes he would face-time them with you. You were surprised when you found out that his brother acted as Spider-man in the new reboot, and you fangirled when you got the chance to talk to the Tom Holland via Sam. What surprised you the most, was that Sam had a twin. You had absolutely no idea.
Your parents and sisters had left to a Christmas party arranged by the resort. You had faked that you were sick so you could spend the eve in your cabin with Sam. In the beginning, your family didn’t want to leave you alone, but you were able to convince them to go to the party.
You sat on a couch in the small and cozy living room. It was free in the fireplace to keep you warm, and blankets were carried down from the rooms to the main room. Sam arrived minutes later with some movies and a bag of sweets. The living room was full of blankets and pillows, ready for a movie night.
The Christmas movie marathon started off with the Home Alone movies. You and Sam sat beside each other with a grand blanket over. A bowl of popcorn was settled in front of you on the table and the movie was ready.
After watching the Home Alone 1 and 2, the Grinch and Elf; it was time to watch It’s a Wonderful Life. Even if you loved the movie, you felt really sleepy. In the middle of the movie, you ended up sleeping on Sam’s chest. Your head lifted as he breathed and he couldn’t stop staring at your peaceful face. Sam laced your hands to his and felt the warmth of your hands.
Sam focus was on you. Even if you had known each other for only a week, he felt like he had known you for years. Then it hit him. What he felt for you, was love. Sam loved you, and he wasn’t scared. He wondered if you would return the same feelings as his. He kissed then your forehead.
Boy, he had no idea about what you felt towards him.
You and Sam fell asleep on the couch, with your head on his chest. When your family had arrived back home, and to their surprise, they found their daughter sleeping on an unknown boy. Only your sisters knew about Sam, but they didn’t know much.
It was Christmas morning, so they didn’t wake you up immediately. Your father was shocked to see the boy, but with sisters like Amber and Samantha, he wasn’t shocked to see a boy. The boy got some bonus points since neither of you was naked, but just asleep after a movie marathon.
An hour later, you woke up because your pillow moved. Firstly, you were alarmed. Pillows weren’t supposed to move. You opened your eyes to meet some chocolate brown eyes and a face full of freckles. You were first confused, but then remembered what happened last night. Just a Christmas movie marathon.
«Darling, I need to go right now. I’ll come later.» Sam whispered and took the blanket from him.
«Please don’t leave, Sammy!» You begged and grabbed his hand. You stared directly into his eyes. Sam nodded and sat down on the couch again. You leaned down on his chest again and wished the moment to last forever.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans. Your family went into the room since they heard your voice. «So, (your name). Who is this young man?» Your father asked, strictly. He only talked in that way when he was angry at you.
«Uhm, this is Sam. Sam this is my family!» You presented. Sam shook his hand with your father. You knew your father tried to seem intimidating since you had seen him do it on Amber and Samantha. The only one who didn’t get scared was Ambers girlfriend, and since then they had been dating.
«Merry Christmas morning, Mr. and Mrs. (your last name)!» Sam greeted formally. This was not how you expected the meeting between your parents and Sam would be. «I’m sorry to disturb your morning.»
«What a nice boy,» your mother mumbled to you, which only you could hear, «And British, huh.»
You blushed and was embarrassed by your parents. Then, Sam’s phone rang. It was his brothers who called him and probably to say Merry Christmas to their brother. «I’m sorry, but I have to take this phone call! Great to meet you!» Then he left the room to answer the phone call.
«This is a very interesting morning, (your name). We are gone for a party, and when we come home, you’re sleeping on a boy.» Your father summed up.
«But luckily for you, the boy is super cute!» Your mother exclaimed. «Why didn’t you tell us about him?»
You were still shocked that all of this was happening. You wished it was a dream, but wanted the part with Sam to be the reality. «I’m going to go to him and ask if he’s okay. Dad, why do you always try to be so intimidating?»
You left your family, searching for Sam. You later found him at the entrance where he talked to his brothers.
«-you really like her, don’t ya? Bro, you need to ask her out!» A voice said, and you recognized it as the oldest Holland brother, Tom. You had learned that Sam had a habit of talking on the phone on speaker.
«Well, yes. I think I maybe love her, or…I don’t know. What if I fucked up, and maybe her family hates me?» Sam answered. You stood frozen, hiding behind a wall close enough to hear Sam’s conversation. Love?
«Hey, watch your language. There are children ears here!» Tom shouted back.
«What! I’m thirteen Tom, and not a child! A teenager.» The youngest Holland, Paddy yelled over the phone.
«Pfft, teenager, haha. Paddy that was a good joke!» Sam laughed. You had to cover your mouth from laughing. Paddy was so young and cute, and everyone treated him almost like a 7-year-old.
«But back to the topic. Sam, just grow some fucking balls and ask her out!» Harry, Sam’s twin, exclaimed.
Sam sighed. «Harry, it’s not as easy as you think!»
«Bro, go to her. Ask her out on a date. Aaaand done! Easy!» Tom answered sarcastically.
«Thanks, Tom,» Sam answered sarcastically back.
«Ooo, just going to remind you that we replace you with Tuwaine. Seems like your ass is still in France.» Harry shouted.
«Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!» Tom said, as a reference from Home Alone 2.
«Please say Merry Christmas to mum and dad from me. Have a horrible day, brothers!» Then Sam ended the call. He was on his way towards the living room again but were stopped by you.
Love. The powerful word, love. It was stuck in your head. Sam loved you. And you loved Sam back.
You grabbed his hand and dragged him out the door. You got enough time to put on shoes before heading out into the winter wonderland. White dots float down from heaven. It was cold, but in Sam’s arm, you were warm.
Before Sam could say anything, you placed your hands around his neck and leaned in to kiss. Sam was first shocked, but after some seconds he kissed back. He cupped his hands around your face and deepened the kiss. The kiss was strong and felt like something you had waited for in a long time. You kissed him with passion. You wanted to stay in that moment forever.
«Je t’aime.» You whispered when you broke the kiss. «I love you, Sam.»
Your head rested on Sam’s chest, and you hugged him tightly. «I love you too, (your name).» Then Sam leaned into another kiss.
It was a beautiful sight, with snow everywhere and the most wonderful sunrise. Everything was perfect, and you couldn’t wait to start a chapter in our life with Sam.
Request: Hi so I was wondering if you could do an imagine or something that's a Gabriel x reader at a summer camp? All the main characters could be there and they're all teenagers. Gabriel and cas could still be angels too. Sorry if this was hard to understand haha - Anonymous
Author’s Note: So whoever sent this in, also sent in a message saying that this was (I think) based off a movie called Ernest Goes To Camp. I have never seen that movie, so I’m going to be basing most of this from a book I read a few months ago called The Little Friend by Donna Tartt. In the book, the main character goes to a summer church camp for a little bit and she hates it! So that’s where a lot of the inspiration is coming from. Title is me ripping off Ernest Goes To Camp. I hope you all like it! Also, this will probably have a part 2! – Haley xx
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
I stood at the front gate of the camp, watching the dust fall down from the dirt road. After dad had dropped us three off at camp, he spun away back to his normal life of drinking. My little brother Sam was standing behind me and my twin brother Dean had a hard grip on my shoulder. It wasn’t the first time our dad had dropped us all off with some person for a few weeks, but taking us all to a summer camp was a new low for him.
“This is bullshit,” Dean muttered.
“Ah, you three must be the Winchesters,” a voice said behind us. Dean let go of my shoulder and we all turned around. It was a man, way shorter than Dean, with dark curly hair. “I’m Chuck Shurley, the camp owner. If you all follow me, we will get you settled in.”
Chuck turned around and started walking down the dirt path to the camp. Dean sighed loudly, “alright, let’s go.”
We begrudgingly picked up our bags and followed Chuck. “I don’t want to be here,” Sam muttered.
“None of us do, Sammy,” I offered, “but we have no choice.”
“We’re going to have to sneak out,” Dean said in a hushed tone. “There’s no way in hell dad left us here for the entire summer.”
“And go where?” I asked. “Where in the middle of nowhere.”
“Bobby’s?” Sam suggested.
I shrugged. “Maybe, but a bunch of kids traveling by themselves is going to raise suspicion. Plus, Dad and Bobby hate each other.”
Chuck stopped walking and turned around to us. The sign above his head said, Camp Eden. “Welcome to Camp Eden, kids! Now, the girl cabins are on the left, Anna will help you sort everything out. And I’ll take the boys to the right where all the boy cabins are at.”
“You must be Y/N,” a redhead girl said to me as I walked up to the cabins.
“Yeah, are you Anna?”
She nodded her head. “Sure am. Since you and your brothers arrived late, you’ll be bunking with me a few other girls. I hope that’s alright.”
I nodded my head back. True John Winchester fashion to drop his kids off at a summer camp late.
“Did my dad tell you much about the camp?” Anna asked.
“Chuck’s your dad?” I asked her back.
Anna laughed. “I guess he didn’t say that much. He’s not in a good mood since my brother Gabriel convinced my other brother Castiel to go for a midnight swim a few days ago.” Anna led me to a cabin with a forest green door and pushed it opened. “This is our cabin, Y/N. The other girls who also bunk in here are Jo, Meg, and Jess. We’re the only teens this year so dad stuck us all in a cabin.”
“Sounds fun,” I said.
Anna led me to a bunk in the back and I dropped my bag onto of it. “We also have uniforms.” I groaned out loud causing her to laugh. “They aren’t that bad. Just the camp logo on a plain white shirt and a pair of khaki shorts.”
She went over to the first bunk and grabbed some clothes off of it. “Here, I’ll let you change. Whenever you’re done, just meet me by the mess hall. That’s the building Dad would have led you all too.”
The mess hall was more a mess than an actual hall.  I found Dean and Sam standing in the front with Chuck and two other boys. They looked around mine and Dean’s age. One was just as tall as Dean with black hair and the other one was about as tall as Chuck, with light brown hair that curled at the ends. I know noticed everyone had been wearing the camp uniform, even Chuck.
“I have to get back to my duties,” Anna said, “I’m over the girls’ crafts and I need to go make sure someone isn’t gluing macaroni to someone else’s hair.”
“How old are these kids you’re watching?” I asked her.
“Teens,” Anna answered, before rolling her eyes. “Dad! Here’s Y/N, I’m going to back check on the crafts!” She called. Anna pushed me forward before making her exit.
I made my way up to them and tried not to bust at gut at the sight of Dean in khaki shorts. The hall had mostly white folding tables and chairs all around the room, except for a long wooden table at the front, where everyone had been standing near. “The registration forms your dad filled out for each of you doesn’t have that much information,” Chuck said to me. “But that’s no problem. Busy parents always seem to forget a line or two on the form.”
“Sorry about that,” Sam said.
“Yeah,” I offered. “Dad’s normally not like that.”
“That’s fine,” Chuck said, taking a clipboard from the shorter boy next to him. “I just need your ages and home address.”
We all froze in fear. Ever since mom died when Dean and I were four, we haven’t had a proper home. The only address I know by heart is a pizza parlour in downtown New York because I would walk there to get food for Sammy. “Y/N and I are twins, we’re both seventeen,” Dean said. “Sam’s thirteen.”
“And um…” I trailed off.
“Our home address is 2194 Singer Salvage Road, Sioux Falls, South Dakota,” Sam lied.
I felt the two other boys’ eyes on us, but Chuck kept writing down on his little clipboard. “Alright, that’s all I needed. Since you all are new and lunch will be starting up in less than thirty minutes, you three can stay in here with Cas and Gabe. I’m going to head back to my office and get this all filed in.”
Chuck turned on his heel and headed over to a side door. He opened it up and went through, before sticking his head back inside the room. “Cas, Gabe, get lunch together. And don’t mess it up.”
One boy nodded his head and the other sighed. When Chuck finally left, the shorter boy flopped down in a fold up chair and propped his feet up on the table. “You heard Dad, Cassie,” he said. “Get lunch together.”
“Gabriel, it’s all your fault. You need to help,” Cas said.
These were Anna’s brothers that had gotten in trouble a few days ago. Gabe shook his head. “Listen, I’m the oldest, I’m going to stay here and talk to the newbies.”
Cas, the taller one, narrowed his blue eyes at his brother. “You’re just making it worse.”
Gabriel threw his head back and sighed loudly before jumping up. “Fine, I’ll help. You all can just wait in here for when lunch starts up,” he said to us. There was a large archway that led to a kitchen that Gabe and Cas walked into.
I grabbed Dean and Sam by the arm and pulled them over to a table in the back. “Why did you say Bobby’s address?” I asked Sam.
He shrugged. “It was the first thing that came to my mind. Was it bad?”
“No, Sam,” Dean said, “that means whenever we bust out, going to Bobby’s won’t look skeptical. And we need to get out soon because I don’t look good in khaki shorts.”
I snorted. “None of these guys do. It’s awful.”
“Dean and I saw a lake when Chuck was taking us to our cabins,” Sam whispered. “I could see the other side of it, and I don’t think there is a fence.”
“Even if there was, we could jump it,” Dean said.
“I think trying to get out our first night would be risky,” I commented. “I’m sharing a cabin with his daughter.”
“I’m sharing on with those two morons,” Dean said, jutting his thumb over his shoulder.
“What about Sam?” I asked.
“He didn’t know how old I was,” Sam said, “so I’ll probably be put with a bunch of tweens.”
“Ew,” I wrinkled my nose.
“I’ll smooth talk those two tonight and see what info I can get on around the area,” Dean said.
“I’ll do the same to Anna,” I said.
We heard a scraping noise and looked at the front of the room. It was Gabriel pushing a box with his foot to the long table. I watched him pick it up, open it, and unload small bags of chips and drinks. “Cas, hurry up! Lunch starts in fifteen minutes!” Gabe called.
Gabe looked over at us and he caught my attention. I could feel the heat rise up in my body. “I’m going to go talk to him,” I said, pushing myself off the chair.
“What?” Sam asked.
“Why?” Dean asked.
“I’m bored,” I told them. “Plus, I’ve heard you two bicker the entire car ride here. I need someone new to talk to, at least before we skip out,” I lowered my voice at the end. I weaved myself between the chairs and tables before coming face to face with Gabriel.
“Hi,” I said.
“Hey,” Gabe said, tossing the box to the corner. “Do you need anything?”
“Me? Oh no, I’m just bored of my brothers. Thought I could make a friend.”
Gabe gave me a fake smile, “Well that’s one thing this place is good for,” before rolling his eyes. “Sorry… I’m just over being here.”
“You hate being here that much?” I asked.
“My dad’s been doing this camp crap for years, and me, Anna, and Cas have been dragged here every. Single. Year. I’m nineteen, I don’t want to be forced here any longer.” There was a thud from the kitchen. Gabe looked over his shoulder before turning back to me. “But honestly, talking to you has made today better.”
↪ REPOST!! DO NOT REBLOG!!
━━ FULL NAME:  Vergil Bellamy ━━ GENDER & SEXUALITY:  male, (heteroromantic) demisexual ━━ ETHNICITY & SPECIES:  seemingly North American; nephilim ━━ BIRTHPLACE & BIRTHDATE:  Limbo City (state N/A), United States; November 26th (year N/A)
━ GUILTY PLEASURES:  I don’t think anything he likes doing makes him feel guilty. Excessive consumption of sweets, maybe? Like if he’s caught downing a whole pint of Häagen-Dazs-- wait maybe that’s more embarrassing than anything.
━ PHOBIAS:  Fears he has, but phobias? Perhaps mysophobia, but I debate this with myself.
━ WHAT THEY WOULD BE FAMOUS / INFAMOUS FOR:  Forming, heading, and actively taking part in The Order, a known “terrorist” group; being the “masked freak on the ‘net.” Aiding in the demise of a former demon king. Aspiring to rule over humanity, unlike Mundus, though still poised to take his place (though that depends on if word of any of this spreads around).
━ WHAT HAVE THEY / WOULD THEY HAVE GOTTEN ARRESTED FOR:  He has eluded the law thus far, and he’s done so by breaking it. Hacking into state and government databases, manipulating his public and private records, forging "legal” documents, identity theft or manipulation to a degree, falsification of credit or financial records---to name a few. I would also lightly suggest murder, but as I’m aware it was done out of self-defense, and then there’s also indirect mass murder, but that one’s totally unintentional. Haha.................
━ A CHARACTER YOU SHIP THEM WITH:  No canon ones. Only an OC, Bianca, which I’m sure has already become well-known as his lifelong ladylove.
━ CHARACTER MOST LIKELY TO MURDER THEM:  Mundus, if the opportunity were ever there. Though I mean Dante almost did and Vergil pretty much died by Dante’s hand even if it wasn’t instant I mean--
━ FAVORITE BOOK GENRE:  Anything covering the occult/paranormal, though he will prefer nonfiction in regard to these subjects. Handbooks and codices, journals and studies are among those he reads primarily. He’s also keen on reading ancient poetry/prose, or teaching himself to read this. Historical accounts and biographies are quite fun, more than anything, to read. But in any case, he’s always willing to learn something from the material. If it’s educational, he won’t mind reading it: the more knowledge he accumulates, the better.
━ LEAST FAVORITE BOOK CLICHE:  Forced/pointless romance I guess? I don’t think he really cares.
━ TALENTS AND / OR POWERS:  Electronic hacking/infiltration, data manipulation, computer programming, being multilingual, analytical thinking, superhuman senses (and having a sixth sense), swordsmanship and close quarters combat, firearms training. Powers include psychokinesis, memory erasure; his angelic gifts allow him to glide a limited distance, while his demonic gifts allow him to transition instantly from one place to another, though also a limited distance, and to enter a state of enhanced power, Devil Trigger, from which he can generate a doppelganger. He can also conjure projectiles in the shape of swords.
━ WHY SOMEONE MIGHT LOVE THEM:  I think his loyalty and reliability might be the first thing someone would find anchoring. Out of all the things he is, or does, the most comforting part of getting to know him would be finding out that he will defend you, or do something for you which he may have promised previously. He’s true to his word, he won’t fail you. Even if he doesn’t know you all that well, he will hardly find himself betraying or deceiving. He does have a sense of justice to follow, and his own morality will push him to doing right by you---if you deserve it. That alone, I believe, would be more than enough to put him in someone’s favor. Superficial traits aside, he’s fairly lovable depending on you.
━ WHY SOMEONE MIGHT HATE THEM:  AND THE FLIP SIDE IS that he’s just as easy to hate. It might be easier for an outsider to take note of the traits that make him unappealing, even repellent. Perhaps his critical, keen eye might become annoying very fast. His tendency toward suspicion might tire you. I believe it’s his arrogance and his pride that may very well discourage people the most. He will always place himself above humanity, boast of his blood and his prowess. He’s going to distance himself from human nature, even deny that he is much like a human for the sake of perching atop his pedestal. His ego is swelled, thus rather sensitive. You may think he’s pretentious, self-entitled, and self-serving, and you’d be right for the most part. No one really likes a prima donna.
━ HOW THEY CHANGE:  He doesn’t in any way that would lend him grace. The period encompassing his downfall and his own ascension is a short one, but it impacts him in deep ways. Maybe when he was once naive, tolerant, and good-humored, he would have become more cynical, prone to impatience and frustration, and less likely to extend amiability. If he was cautious before, then he’s as good as paranoid now. He is less willing to trust in others, less willing to form bonds. In fact, it’s a heavy challenge to clear these hurdles if you’re the one trying to get close to him. In the past, he may have held a neutral position toward angels; leaving Hell, however, has damaged his view of them almost irreversibly. He hates them now, can’t stand them. And I’m just listing off a handful of changes he’s gone through, from post-game to post-Vergil’s Downfall. I haven’t even touched upon the physical and mental impacts the trial has had over him. From growing more powerful, he’s lost mental stability. In fact, he is continually losing his mind to the corruption he harbors. This, as well as entering Devil Trigger, also takes a toll on his physical health---mainly that of his heart. It’s all a slow progression, however, probably meant to prolong the inevitable so that he may feel it and struggle through. In short: he becomes darker, more demonic, more twisted in his points of view. BUT you can’t really tell at first glance. It takes some digging to realize what’s happened to him.
━ WHY YOU LOVE THEM:  He’s cute and a baby. The fruit of my loins. I really do see him as a good boy even though he’d fucked up along the way. His intentions were good, albeit not entirely selfless, but it’s his sentiment behind his actions that led everything to happen in the first place. Aside from some plot holes and iffy writing and vague shit that hasn’t been fleshed out, I feel like his reactions to everything, though exaggerated or just plain questionable, are realistic and justifiable based on who he is, how he thinks, how he deals with his emotions, etc. He’s not supposed to be a “normal” person (because he ain’t human to begin with lmao), he’s grown up differently, he’s fueled by different instincts, and on top of that he’s got a few personality issues, an inferiority complex to some degree, and all of these things are meant to make him the way he is. And because of this, I feel strongly that he is believable. He has things wrong with him, he’s totally wrong in some ways, fucked up in others, and I love that. It helps reinforce his characterization; like he can build justification upon justification with personality traits alone. There’s always a reason that a part of him is, whether or not it’s flawed. He might be blind to some flaws and accepting of others, and all of this helps build his layers. I find that he’s very complex, has many facets to his being. I’ve always been impressed by that. I, myself, have a hard time on occasion to explain one thing or another about him because there’s so much there to explore and understand, and every point has an added side to it. I’m not blind to the wrongs, but I’ll admit I’m so biased and defensive of him that I’m always going to deny the idea that he’s a villain, your classic antagonist. He shouldn’t have been treated that way, reduced to a foil, which I honestly think is pretty unfair considering how the twins handled one another’s differences? In the first place Vergil is just too careful to say outright that he’s gonna rule humanity?? Like I’m sorry but it’s totally unfair in my eyes that he was set up to be the bad guy and IT HURTS MAN, IT HURTS. And yeah I’m gonna blame Dante for choosing to put up his dukes rather than talk it out with his brother who, by the way, hadn’t suggested in the slightest that they fight out their differences. I mean your own flesh and blood who you’ve just started to rebuild a kinship with? Who really wanted you in his life because damn it he loved his brother and he didn’t want to lose you again?? And you want to fight him so fast??? Sorry that’s wrong, you didn’t even give my boy a chance to save face smh. Bitch all I’m saying is he ain’t a villain at heart because he’s got no evil intent during the main game; post-Downfall he’s pretty fucked up because of that dark shit he embraced and now he feels betrayed beyond belief and I have more to say I will fight everyone--
TAGGING:  whoever’s inspired to fill this out tbh
