Anyway rewatching the angels of death anime and I just noticed both of Danny's eyes dilate even though he has one glass eye
#random thoughts#angels of death#i wonder if it's a stylistic thing or if it was just an oversight by the animators#do characters with glass eyes in other animes also have their eye dilate?#idk i think it'd be cool if he just had one dilated eye. now he looks like a bad guy (bad guy) (bad guy) cuz he has just one dilated eye#he looks like a supervillain it DOES impair his visison and now he questions his life#but anyway i like the light glare on his glasses only affecting one eye at a time it's cool#also. forgive me if im being dumb. did they ever explain how zack got up to the second floor by himself?#also like. why did he do that.#they've had people down there before and he's killed basically no one since he's been an angel so ray escaping isn't like. new for him#like we can just assume it's either because of ray not crying out when zack stabbed the box (which he discovered after finding her hair)#OR because of the sewn-up bird#which like. if it was the bird it'd be a neat little bit to look back on when ray's freaking out about telling zack about her parents#like zack knew the whole time and he pursued you for it :-) because you're a little freak#but honestly i dont think it was the bird. i think it was probably because ray didn't cry out when he stabbed the box#the whole box-stabbing thing looked like a practiced move. he had done that before to drawn people out and to great success#he's IMPRESSED!!! HE WANTS TO MURDER HER MORE NOW#also how tf did he get to the second floor. did he fucking wedge the door open and climb the wires#anyway the whole reason he went after ray was because the chase left him overstimulated like a cat#and he needed to bite the proverbial owner's leg so to speak (kill kill kill)

[ ELBOW ]
ACTIONS MEME ⟶ [ ELBOW ] for the sender to elbow the receiver in the ribs!
Was one of them doomed to get hurt every time they met? First they'd hit their heads, then they'd nearly died in virtual reality, and now Wang Yi had accidentally turned too fast and practically skewered Eiden in the chest with his elbow while helping him move boxes in his store.
'Shit, sorry!' He takes a step back immediately, except it gives him a really good view of a perfect wince and god, was that beautiful.
Bad thoughts, bad thoughts...
'All right there?' he asks after clearing his head and Eiden catching his breath. He gets a thumbs up in return, which seems to settle things except the guy keeps making faces as they work that Wang Yi can't quite ignore.
'You,' he sidesteps the empty boxes and practically pushes Eiden down in a chair. 'Where's the first aid stuff? Lemme look at your injury.'
"It's not a big deal—"
'Shut up and sit still.'
A few minutes later finds Wang Yi frowning over a small but painful-looking bruise on Eiden's chest, somewhere over his ribs. It doesn't seem too bad but...
'Does it hurt?' Wang Yi asks, careful to just look but not touch.
"Honestly, I don't really notice it unless I move a certain way," Eiden replies. "Here, you've got the bruise cream, right? I'll put some on."
Wang Yi dutifully unscrews the cap and watches as Eiden gingerly dips his fingers into the mixture. His face flushes slightly at the sight, but he remains silent as the man applies it to his chest. Except—
"Hiss...ow." Eiden grimaces and Wang Yi flinches in response at the sound.
He purses his lips as the guy continues to barely touch his skin while dabbing cream bit by bit, until the irritation reaches a critical point and he blurts out, 'Let me do it.'
"You?" Eiden blinks. "Are you sure? You said you wanted to keep your distance, right?"
'Watching you fool around with it is worse. I'll be quick, I swear.'
Eiden gives him another look but nods and drops his hand, pretty easygoing about it all. In response, Wang Yi gets a dollop of cream on two fingers before leaning forward and—
"Ouch!"
—firmly applying it to the bruise. He raises his eyes to study Eiden's different expressions of mild discomfort and pain as he evenly spreads the medicine to all affected areas. As promised, he doesn't take long and removes his hands as soon as he's finished.
'...done.'
"Ugh, you sure about that? You were staring at me the whole time."
'It's not exactly hard to swirl your finger in circles.'
Eiden made another face. "Honestly, it just felt like you were trying to stab a hole in my chest."
'If it hurts, then it's the right spot,' Wang Yi shoots back and starts re-packing the first-aid kit. 'Anyways that's over now, so let's get back to—wait, why are you taking off your shirt?!'
"Because the cream will stick to my top," Eiden said with an obvious tone. "I'll get re-dressed after it dries."
'Why the hell...'
Tumblr media
'...that's even more distracting, you idiot.'
"Oh, so you were distracted by me, huh?"
'Haha, don't make me give you another bruise.'
"I think you'd enjoy that, though?"
'Uh, you're not supposed to be encouraging me?'
Eiden stands up and Wang Yi, sensing danger before the presence of a physically imposing opponent, uses strategy to win the day.
He opens the front door of the shop in the middle of January.
"H-hey! That's cold!"
Oh, that expression's not bad either. And so Wang Yi smiles as he gets it all: boxes moved, shopkeeper clothed, and a brand new stricken expression to add to his collection.
Maybe it was fine to indulge his own bullying once in a while.

Kiss of Death - Corpse Fic
Prompt: “He’s a bad kisser”
Backstory: Y/N is a streamer and secretly dating Corpse, not even their friends know. Other than Dave, of course. They’re playing proximity chat among us with Valkyrae, Toast, Sykkuno, Pewdiepie, JackSepticeye, Pokimane, Ludwig, and Dave (boyinaband).
Genre: Fluff + humor
Content warning: Light swearing
Word Count: 1631
A/N: Okay. First of all, writing an author’s note really threw me back to my Wattpad days but, anyway. I just wanna say feel free to send little prompt requests in my ask box for fics. I won’t write smut, I know I have for kpop artists in the past and I may write smut again in the future but for now, it’s a hard no for all fics. I will write mainly for Corpse Husband, Valkyrae, BTS, and Dream Catcher. Possibly other YouTubers or kpop groups just ask and I’ll let you know! I also will write for some book fandoms, I can’t list all of them so again just ask, please. I’ll get to requests whenever I can so please be patient while waiting.
Until then please enjoy the random prompts I’ve found that I thought would be cute :)
Disclaimer: this is a work of fiction
You were playing among us with your friends and your boyfriend, as usual. The only difference was you were using the proximity chat mod which you had never done before. Because you guys were using that mod every time Corpse got imposter he was doing his “kiss of death” thing.
As you loaded into the game you saw the word crewmate pop up on your screen. Everyone started joking about being a crewmate or imposter and you chuckled to yourself. “I am just a crewmate doing crewmate things. I am doing keys, because I am just a crewmate.” You stated while walking over to the keys task, knowing that you don’t even have keys this round.
“Y/N’s faking keyyysss.” Poki called.
“She’s just reminding everyone to fake keys, guys, everyone fake keys right now,” Sean said, moving his character on top of yours in front of keys. The was a chorus of agreements as almost everyone did the same. Once that was done you split off from the group.
“Guys… I think it’s Poki, she didn’t fake keys.” You said to your chat, laughing to yourself. You went around doing your tasks. You came across Sykkuno in O2, “Hey Sykkuno, whatcha doing?”
He paused in the doorway of the tree room, “Oh! hi Y/N. I’m uh just doing my tasks.”
You cleared the trash shoot, “Oh yeah? Just a crewmate doing crewmate things?”
Sykkuno giggled, “Uh, yep. Just doing crewmate things. Hey, you- you wanna stand on this vent with me?”
You hesitated, knowing there’s absolutely no way for you to figure out if Sykkuno is just being himself or is actually the imposter, “I- You know what yes I would love to Sykkuno.” You walked into the tree room.
“Oh- really? That… Was very enthusiastic.” The two of you walked onto the vent by the tree, stacking on top of each other, “You’re not the imposter, right? You’re not gonna kill me.
“Oh, of course not, Sykkuno. I mean, you know, maybe.” You love making yourself look extra suspicious to him because that’s how he plays, “Here. I’ll click the spot where the kill button is and we’ll see what happens, okay?”
“Oh, Jesus-” He gasped.
You clicked the spot on the screen, “Hear me clicking?” You both laughed.
“Uh yeah I do, that means it can’t be you huh?” He said, “Here I’ll do it too.”
You yelped a little as the body reported screen came up, scaring you.
“I thought I just fucking died.” You said, trying to calm your breathing.
“Honestly, me too.” Sykkuno said, “There’s so many people dead.”
Poki reported the body and the screen showed that Toast, Sean, and Dave were dead, “So Rae and I just walked up on Toast’s body. And I don’t think it’s Rae, I’ve been with her for a good chunk of this round.”
“Soo it could be both of you.” You pointed out.
“Why are you susing me right now??” Poki exclaimed.
“You didn’t fake keys!” You yelled.
“She’s right!” Pewds yelled, remembering that from the beginning of the round, “What the fuck, Poki?”
Corpse laughed, “That’s a little sus Imane.”
Poki laughed, “I can’t believe I’m getting sussed cause I didn’t fake a task.”
“Anyways, I think it’s Rae and Poki. It definitely couldn’t have been Sykkuno, we were chilling on a vent.” You stated. Corpse hummed to himself.
Sykkuno vouched for you, “Yep that’s true. And we did a foolproof test so it’s not either of us.”
“What was the test?” Lud asked
“Well, we both clicked the kill button and neither of us are dead, so.” Sykkuno pointed out.
“You clicked the kill button?” Rae asked, “Wait, so you’re both imposters? You clearly can’t kill each other if you’re imposters.”
You sighed, “I don’t know why Sykkuno had to say it like that but we clicked where the kill button should’ve been and nothing happened. So it’s not us.”
“So there’s two pairs.” Corpse mused to himself.
Pewds brought his mic really close to his mouth, “Get ‘em out of here.”
You yelled over him, “Hold on hold on, it’s seven we can’t vote on seven. Kind of sus that you’re pushing to vote on seven.”
“I’m not sus you’re sus.” He declared.
“Let’s skip, I’m gonna stay with Sykkuno and protect him.” Lud announced as the ‘I voted’ sticker popped up next to his name. Everyone started voting to skip.
“If Ludwig dies it’s Sykkuno.” Pewds concluded as the timer ran out.
“What???” Sykkuno wailed. You quickly ran to go to Lab on your own, afraid of Rae and Poki.
Rae walked behind you into Lab, “ Ahhh- Hi please don’t kill me.”
“No no no I would never,” Rae said, making her voice sound sarcastic on purpose as you guys walked into decontamination. You started to scream dramatically.
“Heeeeeeelp. Heeeeellppp! She’s gonna kill me.” You pushed your character into the door to specimen, desperately waiting for it to open.  Once it finally did you rushed down into specimen and she ran after you. You ran around specimen with her chasing after you.
“Stop running. Y/N. Y/N! Hey- Stop running!” She yelled after you.
“Nooooo.” Corpse walked into specimen from the bottom and stood off to the side watching the two of you, “Coooorpse, protect me.” You yelled. He moved his character between you and Rae.
“Yeah, uh, of course. I’ll protect you don’t worry.” He said. Rae stopped in front of him.
“I said I wasn’t gonna kill you Y/N.” She insisted.
You fake cried a little, “You didn’t say you couldn’t kill me though! Corpse, please. Wait-” You realized Corpse could 100% be the imposter right now, “Corpse… It’s not you is it?”
“No no, I’m gonna protect you.” He promised.
“....Does that mean it’s you but you’re gonna kill Rae to protect me?” You asked. They both laughed and Rae backed away from Corpse.
“She knows too much Corpse, she knows too much!” Rae yelled. You started to scream for help again and run around.
“Hey hey hey, relax.” Corpse said, following you. You ran towards bottom decontamination, getting stuck at the door again, “Don’t worry. Y/N, shhh. It’s okay, just-” He made a smooching noise and the kill animation popped up on your screen.
You let out a shriek. “I can’t believe- Well, hi chat.” You giggled and started reading the chat again, “‘You got a kiss from Corpse, how do you feel?’ He’s a really bad kisser, guys. I mean it, did you see that? He kissed me and then STABBED me. An awful kisser.” You shook your head. A body was reported and the meeting screen popped up. They discussed yours and Poki’s death Corpse and Rae vouching for each other and Lud and Sykkuno vouching for each other, leaving Pewds the only one without an alibi and got him voted out. The defeat scream popped up showing Rae and Corpse as the imposters.
Corpse POV
Before joining the lobby again he decided to read chat for a second and talk to his fans. “I’m sorry I can’t really look at chat that much while we’re doing this mod it’s just hard cause everyone can hear you, you know.” He read through the recent super-chats, thanking people as he went. He quickly scanned the rest of the chat. People were spamming that Y/N had called him a bad kisser, “Wait- she- Y/N said what??” He joined the lobby, “Y/N what the fuck?”
“What’d I do??” Y/N questioned.
“Did you really tell your chat I’m a bad kisser? Why are you lyyyying?”
“I-” The whole group started gasping and talking over each other, “I meant in the game! You- everyone shut up oh my god please-”
“Okay okay okay, let her talk guys. Try and talk your way out of this Y/N.” Corpse chuckled.
“Okay, before I get myself into a scandal. In-game, before you killed me, you gave me a little kiss. Then my chat was like how do you feel and I was like you know what, that was an awful kiss I died from it.”
“Ohhh, that makes sense.” Corpse said.
“Wait!” Rae interrupted, “What else would she have to go off of other than in-game?…” There was a long silence.
Corpse was the one to break the silence. “You know what, gamer bladder. Bathroom break.” Everyone laughed and reluctantly agreed.
Y/N POV
You tried to stay calm and talk to your chat about any other topic but your chat was going insane speculating about you and Corpse.
Corpse came into the room and you quickly held up one finger off-camera to tell him to wait a second.
“Uh, hold on just a second guys.” You muted your headphones and took them off. You started to work on turning your webcam off but he reached over and grabbed the arm of your chair, rolling it towards him.
You squealed, “Corpse! What are you doing?”
“I’m a bad kisser, huh? I’m a bad kisser?” He started peppering your face with kisses. You giggled. He planted his hands on the armrests of your chair, practically trapping you in place. He raised an eyebrow at you, a smirk plastered on his lips, “Hmm?”
You cupped his face and kissed him. He started to pull you closer to him but you pulled back, “No, you’re not a bad kisser, baby. You’re the best kisser.” He kissed you again and then went back to his filming room. You slid your chair back to your computer, pretending as if nothing happened. You put your headphones back on and scanned the chat. There were a couple of people being like we saw that hand but you ignored it and continued playing.

Liam- Badass
A/N: This one has been in my ask box for a really long time, but I hope you guys enjoy it! I’ve been rewatching season 6, and Liam has grown on me a lot as a character!
Request:  Hi can you plz do a review where (based in season 6 episode 14 where everyone Is judging Liam and all that) and the reader is trying to be nice to him and be his friend when no one else will but Nolan has a crush on her and that is another reason he wants Liam to change so she can she the “monster” he is thx❤️❤️😘
“Find anything interesting?”
You jumped. The voice had startled you as it came from behind a library shelf. When you turned, a pair of blue eyes caught yours through an empty space between books.
“Sorry,” Nolan Holloway apologized, smiling sheepishly as he came around to your aisle. “I wasn’t trying to scare you.”
“It’s fine,” you told him. “I was just trying to find another copy of the bio textbook for Liam. He forgot his.”
Nolan glanced back toward the collection of tables in the middle of the school library. One was occupied by Liam, Mason and Corey, with a single empty seat waiting for you.
“Study group?” he asked.
“Sort of,” you told him. “It was kind of spontaneous.”
He nodded. “You know, I don’t really get why you hang out with those guys. Mason and Corey, I sort of understand, but Liam? He just seems like he’s hiding something.”
You raised your eyebrows. It wasn’t the first time someone had questioned your friendship with Liam because of his temper, but Nolan seemed to be talking about something else entirely.  “What do you mean?”
“You have to notice all the weird stuff that goes on around here, right?”
“I think everyone does.”
“Yeah, so haven’t you noticed that they’re always at the center of it all?”
“Not really, no,” you told him. “You sure you’re not imagining things? The bio exam is coming up and I don’t think anyone is getting much sleep…”
You trailed off as you noticed he was still staring at your friends. You were about to just back up and leave when he turned to you.
“I’m not sleep-deprived. I just pay attention. I pay attention to you too, you know.”
He had this strange, intense look in his eyes, and you were suddenly uncomfortable.
“Okay,” you agreed, struggling to keep a polite smile on your face. “Well, I’ve gotta get back to studying so…”
You trailed off and turned, quickly walking back to your table.
“There aren’t any more books,” you told Liam.
“That’s fine. We can just share...hey, are you okay?”
Liam had seen Nolan getting a little too close to you over by the bookshelves. He knew he had a tendency to be a little overprotective, and, as Mason had also pointed out, a little too jealous. Maybe he didn’t have a right to be, but there were many times that he couldn’t help it. He had heard the way the other lacrosse players talked about you in the locker room.
Nolan himself had said a few disgusting things when he didn’t think Liam had heard him. Though he couldn’t confront his teammate outright, he made sure to check him extra hard at practice.
Maybe that was why he had been so suspicious as he watched Nolan breathe down your neck while you searched for an extra textbook. Maybe it also had something to do with how much Liam cared for you, and the fact that Nolan seemed to be up to something worse than getting into your pants.
You nodded as you sat down at the table. “Yeah, I’m okay. It’s just...I don’t know. Do you ever get the feeling like something bad is about to happen?”
Corey and Mason shared a concerned look, but Liam tilted his head.
“Like what? We might fail the test? Cause I don’t think I need a feeling to tell me that.”
“Shut up,” you complained, feeling the worry roll off your shoulders. “We’re going to make sure you don’t.”
You scooted your chair closer to him and opened up the textbook you had left on the table. “Let’s start with Chapter Nine.”
He leaned in to read next to you and flashed you a grateful smile. You were just about to turn the page when a couple of books slammed onto the table. You flinched at the noise, instinctively moving closer to Liam.
Nolan was standing at the edge of the table, smiling at the four of you. “Hey guys.”
“Hey, Nolan,” Mason said politely.
“Mind if I sit?” Nolan asked.
Liam opened his mouth to protest, but Nolan was already pulling a fifth chair up to the table.
Corey glanced over and met your eyes. He had seen you talking to Nolan in the stacks, and by the way his eyebrows were raised you knew he was wondering if you had invited him over. You shook your head.
Mason cleared his throat. “Studying for the bio test?”
“Trying,” Nolan said with a strange grin, sitting down next to you. “Trying to understand how organisms evolve and change.”
“I don’t think this is on the test,” Corey said hesitantly.
Nolan’s lips twitched, and he clicked the pen in his hands, over and over. He glanced around the table. “Do you think DNA changes?”
“If it’s damaged,” Mason told him.
“I wonder if any of us have changed,” Nolan wondered aloud. “And if we did...would there be any way to tell?”
“Like a DNA test?”.
Nolan smiled as he turned the pen over in his hands. “I was thinking a different type of test.”
Liam stood up suddenly.
“You know what, Nolan? This is a private study group. Get lost.”
Nolan nodded, seeming to understand. He pushed himself up from the table, flashing you a warm smile. For a second, it seemed like he was going to leave. Then, looking right into your eyes, he stabbed his pen into Corey’s hand.
You let out a shriek, and Corey cried out as blood splashed onto the table. Now it was glistening on the wood and your textbook.
“What the hell is your problem?” Mason demanded, but Nolan wasn’t phased.
He reached forward, jerking Corey’s hand up and holding it high for everyone in the library to see. The hole that should have been there was gone, like it had completely healed.
“Look at him!” he snarled at you. “Look at him!”
The entire library was staring. Kids looked up from their textbooks and phones to find a sight that confused and terrified them. What they didn’t know, and what you didn’t know, was that this was only the beginning.
In seconds, Liam had shoved Nolan off of Corey, knocking him to the floor of the library. “Get the hell away from us. Now.”
Nolan glared at Liam, shoving himself up from the ground. He snatched his books from the table and glanced toward you. “See what I’m talking about?”
Then he stormed off, shoving the library doors open and disappearing into the darkened hallway.
When you looked back, Corey, Liam, and Mason were all eyeing you carefully, as if you were an animal that might bite. You glanced at Corey’s completely healed hand, and you made a decision that would define everything that came after that night.
“Nolan is nuts,” you said firmly. “Let’s go study at my house.”
Their shoulders seemed to slump in relief, and Liam reached out to squeeze your hand.
You met his baby blue eyes, and a look of understanding passed between the two of you. What you had seen didn’t matter. These were your friends, and nothing could scare you away from them.
-----
It only took a few days for things to escalate to the unthinkable. Suddenly everyone was afraid of your friends.
You didn’t understand it. There had only been about ten other people in the library that night. Word shouldn’t have traveled that fast, and even if it had, what was there to be afraid of?
If Corey could suddenly heal from his injuries, that should have been a miracle. Unfortunately, not everyone thought that.
When the three of you had walked into school that Monday, all people had done was stare or shy away from you and your friends. You couldn’t hear the whispers, but Liam seemed to be able to. He looked pained as you stood in front of your lockers.
“Just block it out,” Mason assured him.
“They know,” Liam whispered nervously.
“It’s just rumors. They don’t know anything.”
You looked between the two of them. You didn’t know anything either, but you could at least tell that Liam and Corey were different. For some people, that was enough to be upset about.
Before you could interject, someone else did.
“They know everything,” Corey told them, coming up from the hallway behind you. “Two sophomores on the lacrosse team were there last night.”
Mason shook his head, still trying to convince Liam, and maybe himself, that things were okay. “Yeah, but it was late. It was pitch-black out, and there was fog on the road.”
Corey frowned. “It was a clear night, a full moon, and a well lit intersection.”
“Look, I have to get out of here,” Liam hissed.
“No,” Mason insisted. “If you leave, these rumors never stop. You gotta just convince them that you’re a regular kid.”
“I’m not a regular kid.”
You blinked, looking between them. “Wait, what happened last night?”
The three of them shared a glance. No one said anything.
“Look, you can tell me. I already saw what happened in the library. I don’t care.”
Liam and Corey hesitated, but Mason spoke up. “Okay, I’ll tell you.”
“Mason,” Corey hissed.
“Come on, she already has all the pieces. She just hasn’t put them together yet. It’s safer for her to know the whole story.”
Corey didn’t look convinced. He was eyeing you carefully with his arms crossed over his chest. Defensive.
“You’re right,” Liam told Mason, but when you looked into his eyes, he looked scared.
“Can you come with us?” Mason asked you.
You nodded and they led you away from the main hallway. You followed them into a quiet chemistry lab, where they locked the door behind them. There, they explained everything.
Finding out that Liam and Corey were both supernatural creatures was a lot to take in. If there was nothing else going on, you might have needed more time to process everything. However, the news that a group of werewolf hunters was targeting and killing your friends seemed to override the shock.
They explained that wasn’t their only problem, because after Liam had shifted in front of half the town last night, everyone, including the kids at your high school, seemed to know that he wasn’t human.
“So,” you finally said. “What do we do?”
“Good question,” Liam said. “Cause I have no idea.”
“Remember what Scott said?” Mason asked him.
Scott was the assistant coach for the lacrosse team, but he was only a couple years older than you. He hung out with you guys a lot, and he always seemed like a sweet, caring guy. You guessed he was probably in on the secret too.
“He said ‘Be like Clark Kent’.”
Liam looked exasperated. “Clark Kent turns into a guy with a red and blue outfit and a cape. I turn into a monster with claws and fangs.”
“Then just get through the day without shifting,” Corey told him.
“Liam,” Mason said softly. “People are saying that Brett and Lori died in a car accident. We know the truth. They didn’t just die.”
You sucked in a breath. “They were murdered?”
Liam’s face softened. “The people who are after us are dangerous, Y/n. They’ll kill us, and anyone else that gets in the way. That means you too.”
“I don’t care,” you insisted. “You guys are my best friends. I’m not just gonna run and hide, especially if I can help.”
You reached out to grab his hand and squeeze it. His lips turned up at the corners, if only for a moment.
“Then you’re with us now.”
You all agreed that Liam would try to keep cool. The rest of you would try to listen out for anything that might suggest someone was coming after him. Mason and Corey left the chemistry lab to head to their first period classes, leaving you and Liam alone together.
You were both supposed to head to your own classes, but you lingered for a moment.
“So...you’re not afraid?” he asked sheepishly.
You shook your head. “Liam, I know who you are. Having claws and fangs doesn’t change that, even if it’s a little weird.”
He smiled. “A little?”
“Okay, maybe a lot,” you admitted with a grin. “But that just means you can eat the people that piss me off on a full moon.”
Liam frowned. “Werewolves don’t eat people on full moons.”
“So what do they do?”
“Exactly what we’ve been doing every full moon for the past two years. Eating junk food and playing video games.”
You thought for a moment. “And you have super reflexes?”
He nodded. “Yeah, basically.
 “So why do you suck so bad at COD then?”
Liam rolled his eyes, but he was still smiling. He was relieved you were still treating him the way you always had. Telling you about the supernatural was always something he had wanted to do. You were one of his best friends, and he had always felt wrong hiding it from you.
He had thought about admitting his secret countless times before, but something had always stopped him. What you didn’t know was that Liam had always thought of you as more than a friend. He was pretty sure you felt the same way, but he had never asked you out.
Scott had questioned him about it once on the way home from a pack movie night. They had dropped you off at home, and as he pulled away from the curb in his mom’s sedan, he was looking at Liam with a smile on his face.
“What?” Liam had asked.
“Why don’t you ask her out?”
Liam flushed. Scott grinned at him. “I haven’t seen you look at anyone like that since Hayden.”
“I don’t know,” Liam said.
“What do you mean?” he asked. “She likes you too. You can’t tell?”
“I know she does. It’s just...with everything going on, I don’t want to drag her into this.”
Scott nodded. “I get it...but you can’t spend your whole life doing that.”
“Doing what?”
“Sacrificing your happiness to keep people safe. Even when you do that, they’re never really safe.”
“I don’t know,” Liam mumbled, glancing out the window into the darkness.
“I had to learn that the hard way,” Scott had told him. “But maybe you do too.”
Now, as he stood across from you, he didn’t want to leave the chemistry lab. He wanted to hide in there with you for as long as he could and tell you everything, including how he felt about you. Before he could get the chance, you spoke.
“Come on,” you said, nodding toward the hallway. “Let’s make sure you stay alive so I can beat your ass again this weekend.”
He had missed his moment, but he smiled at you anyway. “Can I walk you to class?”
“Duh.”
You looped your arm through his and headed out into the hall, ignoring the stares and fearful looks the entire way.
------
You met up again in biology class, which you all had together. When you sat down at the table next to Liam, he pulled you close to whisper in your ear.
Your heart skipped when he placed his hand on your arm, but he was too agitated to notice.
“Nolan and Gabe are going to try to force me to shift. Corey said they’re going to block all the exits.”
You frowned. “Then we have to find a way to sneak you out.”
You glanced behind you, where Corey and Mason were sharing a table.
“We’ve got a plan for that."
Mason explained that Corey could make himself and Liam invisible. They would sneak out down the halls and hopefully find an exit that wasn’t guarded by lacrosse players.
When the bell finally rang, the four of you headed out of class. Corey and Liam slipped behind a pillar and disappeared into thin air. You and Mason led the way as they shuffled behind you, completely unseen.
The four of you hurried through the school, but every exit you passed was blocked by an angry-looking lacrosse player.
“What do we do?” you muttered to Mason.
“Just keep going.”
You turned down another hallway, only to run right into Nolan. He was standing in the middle of the hallway with a few other lacrosse players. Gabe was right behind him. You and Mason stopped short at the sight.
“Hey guys,” Nolan said. His tone was casual, but there was no friendliness in his eyes.
Before you could attempt to go around him or the others, he stepped in front of you. His hands were curled tightly into fists.
“What are you doing?” you asked him.
“You should leave, Y/n. You shouldn’t get in the middle of all this. You’ll get hurt.”
You frowned. “Nolan, please.”
His gaze softened. He looked like he wanted to say something more, but then he simply opened his hand and blew a handful of white powder at you. The smell of flour drifted through the air as you and Mason were dusted. You felt terror grip you as you realized that Corey and Liam were covered too, making them suddenly visible.
You turned in horror, but before you could make a move, Gabe darted forward and threw Liam to the floor. Both Gabe and Nolan hauled him up, dragging him down the empty hall and into a deserted classroom. The other lacrosse players didn’t bother to grab you or Mason. Instead, they flooded into the classroom behind the others.
Some students passing by followed suit, eager to watch the fight they sensed was about to happen.
“Wait here,” Mason told you, darting after them.
He shoved his way into the classroom, ready to come to Liam’s rescue, but he was immediately grabbed by two lacrosse players. You frantically looked around for Corey, but he had disappeared again. You only hoped he was hiding somewhere safe, just in case they were planning on coming for him next.
With Corey nowhere to be found, you shouldered your way into the classroom, but you were trapped behind the sea of kids trying to catch the action.
You watched in horror as Nolan landed a punch to Liam’s face, causing blood to run from his nose. They shoved him to the ground, kicking and punching him. Every time Liam seemed to be close to snapping, he seemed to hold himself back. You were relieved, but you also weren’t sure how long he could keep that up.
“You’re fighting it!” you heard Nolan snap.
Your blood boiled. You were sick to your stomach with both rage and terror. Liam was getting his ass handed to him. He couldn’t even fight back.
You watched as Gabe snatched a tuft of Liam’s brown hair. He yanked him up from the classroom floor, only to slam his knee into Liam’s face. You flinched.
“What is going on here?!”
Suddenly the clicking of heels sounded from down the hallway. Mrs Finch was striding over, and the crowd of kids parted for her. Instead of looking angry, she just seemed scared as she realized what was happening.
“Do something!” Mason pleaded, but Mrs. Finch just held up her hands, as if she were surrendering.
“Sometimes it’s best to let them work things out on their own,” she told him, before turning back down the hall.
Kids stared in shock, dumbfounded at her response. You took the opportunity to shove your way into the space she had left in the crowd. As you got closer, you saw that Liam was lying on his back. Blood was streaming from his nose, his mouth, and various other cuts on his face.
Gabe was kneeling over him, punching him over and over. He raised his arm to land another blow, and that was when you moved forward. You had no idea what had gotten into you, but you couldn’t watch another second of Liam’s suffering.
Gabe grunted in surprise as you knocked him to the ground. The two of you spilled onto the tiled floor, but he quickly recovered. He yanked your head back by your hair, causing you to cry out.
Before you could register what was happening, pain was shooting through your skull. He had punched you so hard that it left you lying on the floor, dazed and seeing white for a few seconds.
“Gabe-” Nolan began to say, but he was cut off. “Is this what’s gonna do it, Liam?” Gabe demanded, pulling you off the floor by your hair. “Maybe you won’t change if we beat your ass, but what about hers?”
Tears were streaming down your face, blurring your vision. You could still see Liam's eyes glowing yellow though. As much as it hurt, you weren’t willing to be the reason he shifted in front of everyone.
“Liam,” you begged. “Don’t.”
You could taste your own blood on your lips. Judging by the look on Liam’s face, you probably looked terrible, even from the single punch. You knew they were going to do much worse.
Gabe balled his hand into a fist once more, and you closed your eyes, bracing for the next punch.
“What the hell is going on?! Back off!”
Suddenly, Gabe was ripped off of you by the back of his shirt. His fingers uncurled from your hair, and you dropped to the ground on your hands and knees.
“Get to the Principal's office now!” Coach Finstock was screaming.
He had Gabe and Nolan by their shirts, and he practically tossed them out the door and into the hallway. He looked absolutely livid. You had never seen Coach so angry. He gazed out at the crowd of students around you.
“What the hell is this?” He demanded. “Get out, all of you! I can’t stand to look at your faces!”
The crowd dispersed, and Mason was let go. You scrambled over to Liam, who was still on his back. He was taking short, gasping breaths and his face was covered in his own blood, but he looked relieved. He coughed as the four of you, including Corey, who had reappeared, helped him off the ground. One of his arms was slung over your shoulder, and the other was slung over Mason’s.
Mason stared at him in awe. “I can’t believe you did that...and Y/n, I can’t believe you just tackled Gabe. That was insane.”
Liam nodded, looking between the three of you. “Clark Kent, right?” he muttered.
Yeah,” Mason breathed. “Clark Kent.”
Liam glanced over at you. He felt a lump in his throat when he saw the state of your face. There was a small gash on your cheek from where Gabe had punched you. A trickle of blood was making its way down to your jaw, and your lip was split open. The worst part was the bruising. The blood could be cleaned up, but the bruise that was beginning to form would be there for a while. That side of your face was also beginning to swell.
His blood was boiling. He wanted to tear Gabe and Nolan apart. In that moment, he didn’t care who saw. Then you spoke.
“Liam,” you said softly. “I’m okay. I promise.”
You squeezed his hand. The feel of your fingers wrapped around his seemed to ground him. The tension melted from his shoulders.
“Come on,” he said. “Let’s get out of here.”
------
“God, I have no idea how I’m going to explain what happened to your parents.”
You looked over at Liam from the passenger seat of his Toyota. He had a white-knuckled grip on the steering wheel. You raised your eyebrows.
“Why do you have to explain?”
“Because I’m your best friend. I’m supposed to protect you...and everything that happened is my fault anyway.”
You lifted the bag of frozen peas that Coach had given you off your cheek. He had assured you it would bring down the swelling, but you were skeptical.  You pulled down the visor in front of you and glanced at your wounded face in the mirror.
            Mason had cleaned the blood off with the lacrosse team first aid kit, but there was a visible gash where Gabe’s knuckles had connected with your cheekbone. The bruise, now a deep blue-ish purple, spread out across your cheek. Your lip was also busted and there was no way you’d be able to hide it.
“It’s not your fault. I’ll just tell my parents the truth. Someone was getting their ass kicked and I stepped in to stop them. Well, I tried anyway.”
“Okay, now you’re kind of making me sound like a little bitch.”
You shrugged, and you and Liam both burst out laughing. The movement in your face caused you to wince and Liam’s expression darkened.
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to keep saying that.”
“I feel like I do.”
“You don’t,” you assured him. “Liam, none of this was your fault. It’s the hunters and Nolan, and that fucking psycho Gabe. Plus, I’m the one who tackled him…”
He didn’t answer right away. He was anxiously chewing on his lip, staring out the windshield.
“Liam?”
“I think you need to leave town.”
You balked at him. “What? No way!”
“Gabe could have done a lot worse to you. Now he knows you’re involved. Staying here could get you killed. You and Mason both.”
“So what are we supposed to do?” you demanded. “Just run away?”
“Yeah. That’s exactly what you should do. I can’t protect you, Y/n. I can’t protect anyone.”
“I can protect myself-”
“No you can’t!” he snapped. “Look at your face!”
You flinched back at his sharp tone. Wordlessly, you turned away, slouching down in your seat to stare out the window. Maybe he was right, but his words had touched a nerve.
Liam wasn’t trying to hurt you, but he was terrified. If he couldn’t even protect you from Gabe, how was he supposed to protect you from trained hunters?
“Y/n...I’m sorry. I’m not saying you’re not strong. I just…I can’t lose you.”
You felt a flutter in your chest. Taking a deep breath, you looked back over at him.
“Even if you can’t protect me, why would I leave you? If someone’s trying to kill you, I want to help. Even if it means getting hurt...even if it means dying. I can’t just leave.”
“I can’t be the reason something happens to you,” Liam protested.
“You wouldn’t be,” you pointed out. “If these people are coming after you, that’s them. Not you.”
He shook his head and you could tell he was trying to work something out inside his head. He was about to turn down the street to Scott’s neighborhood, but he hesitated for a moment. You were both supposed to be at a pack meeting, but now he was having second thoughts about bringing you.
“Maybe I should just take you home. I promise I’ll come and get you as soon as this is over,” he swore.
“I can’t just leave you.”
“You can,” he insisted, pulling up to the nearest curb. Scott’s house was still a few blocks away.
“If you want me to leave you, you’re gonna have to pick me up and carry me kicking and screaming out of town,” you told him stubbornly.
“Fine,” he said with a shrug. “Then that’s what I’ll do. I’ll throw you over my shoulder. I don’t care.”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re not serious.”
“I am!” he shouted. “You don’t realize how much danger you’re in.”
“You’re Clark Kent, right?” you demanded. “What if I’m Lois Lane then? I don’t remember her ever running away.”
He opened his mouth to protest. This wasn’t a comic book. It was real life, and you could die. But as you stared at him defiantly, he realized you already knew that.
Asking you to leave him would have been like asking him to leave Scott and the others.
“Fine,” he said.
He put the car back into drive and pulled away from the curb. You drove in silence for a couple minutes, until he pulled into a driveway you presumed was Scott’s. There were several other cars out front. You recognized Stiles’ rickety, blue jeep right away, along with Lydia’s Martin’s Toyota and Scott’s motorcycle.
“Promise me you’ll just think about leaving?” he asked. “Just think about it.”
“Fine,” you told him.
Liam eyed you. “You’re lying.”
“So you can read minds now too?” you demanded.
“Your heart skips when you lie. I can hear it.”
He slammed the door behind him, but came around to open yours for you nonetheless. You could tell he was pissed at you for saying you wouldn’t leave, but he would do the exact same thing and you knew it.
As you followed Liam into the house, you saw a group of people clustered around the coffee table, examining a map. You recognized Scott, his mom, Malia, Lydia and two other men you didn’t know. One was tall with dark hair, and he was wearing a suit. There was an FBI badge hanging from his neck. The other was shorter, with piercing blue eyes.
“...no one can leave,” the taller one was saying. “Gerard’s distributed all of his weapons throughout Beacon Hills, to anyone who wants them.”
The shorter one looked grim. “He’s arming his army.”
You turned toward Liam, wanting to ask what they were talking about. Before they could, Lydia, who had been staring vacantly out the window, yelled “Get down!”
She pulled Mason to the floor just as two arrows flew through the glass windows at the front of the house, shattering them. A bright flash spread across the room, blinding you just after you saw Malia shove Scott down. Liam tackled you to the floor, covering his body with yours.
Gunfire echoed across the room, and you felt a sharp, stinging pain in your side. You cried out, and Liam pressed himself harder on top of you. You closed your eyes, terrified of what would happen next.
Suddenly, the gunfire stopped. You glanced up, and saw the taller man, who you now realized bore a striking resemblance to Scott, stand up. He must have been his father, you realized, as he drew his weapon from a holster on his side.
Liam pushed himself up, but when he did, he realized there was blood soaking through his t-shirt. When he felt for a wound, he realized it wasn’t his blood, but yours.
You were lying below him, and a pool of dark, red blood was staining your right side, soaking into your shirt and your jeans.
“Liam, what happened?” you whispered. Your voice was soft and scared.
“No!” he shouted, looking around frantically for the others.
But Mason and Melissa were both unconscious on the floor, lying in their own pools of blood, which were slowly widening on the floor. Lydia was bleeding, but awake, and she was using a hand to prop herself up using the coffee table. Scott’s dad was groaning in pain, one hand holding pressure over his bloody arm.
Everyone was hurt. Everyone needed help.
When Liam looked back down at you, your eyes were closed. Your breathing was growing shallow, and he resisted the urge to scream. He reached down, frantically pressing both hands over your bleeding side.
“Scott!” he cried. “What do we do?”
The alpha, riddled with bullet holes himself, struggled to his feet.
“I don’t know.”
------
“You doing okay?”
Liam looked up at the sound of Scott’s voice. The older boy was looking down at him sympathetically, and Liam felt a twinge of annoyance.
“Not really.”
“Mind if I sit?” Scott asked.
“Sure,” Liam said, looking back down at the floor.
The flimsy chair next to him groaned as Scott sat down. He had two plastic-wrapped breakfast bagels in his hands, one of which he held out to Liam.
“No thanks.”
“Come on, you haven’t eaten since last night.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Okay.” He set the bagels on the side table next to them. “You know the nurse said she was awake. You don’t wanna go see her?”
Liam was silent. His mouth was pressed into a grim line.
“Liam,” Scott said softly. “What happened wasn’t your fault.”
“I brought her to your house,” he grumbled. “I was trying to get her to leave town, but she wouldn’t. So I agreed that I wouldn’t make her.”
He shook his head in disbelief. “God, I should have just dragged her out of town myself.”
“She’ll be okay,” Scott reminded him. “The bullet didn’t hit anything important.”
“Yeah, and it’s a miracle it didn’t. I could have gotten her killed, Scott.”
Scott reached out, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Liam, look at me.”
Finally, he did. His blue eyes met Scott’s brown ones, and he felt himself tearing up, though he hated himself for it. He had forced himself not to cry all night, afraid that once he did, he would completely break down.
But now, as the tears slipped down his cheeks, he couldn’t stop them. “It’s my fault she got hurt, Scott. This is what I was afraid of, and it happened.”
“None of this is your fault.”
Scott leaned over and brought Liam into a tight hug. “Remember when I told you that sacrificing your happiness doesn’t always keep people safe?”
Liam nodded.
“You couldn’t have stopped this. Whoever was shooting at us was going to do it regardless. Who’s to say they wouldn’t have gone after her when you weren’t with her?”
“I could have made her leave town though.”
“No you couldn’t have. Making her leave you would have been like making you leave us. You never would have done it.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
Scott smiled and pulled away from the younger boy. “I know I’m right. I’ve been doing this for a while, remember? I know you feel like you’re responsible, but you’re not. She made her choice, and it was the exact same one you would have made.”
Liam nodded.
“I think you’re perfect for each other, actually,” Scott continued. “You’re both stubborn as hell.”
“Yeah,” Liam said with a soft laugh. “We are.”
“Go see her. I’m sure you guys have a lot to talk about.”
Liam nodded and rose to his feet. “Thanks.”
Scott smiled in response, and Liam headed down the hall to your room. The nurse had given him the number a few hours ago, but he was afraid to visit you. He knew you wouldn’t be mad at him, but it was his own guilt he hadn’t been able to get past. Now he knew he couldn’t control what happened to you, and it wasn’t fair to punish you by staying away.
He knocked on the wooden door, and heard your soft voice say “Come in.”
When he pushed it open, you were lying there, propped up against the pillows. You smiled when he entered, and he felt relief rush through him. Even in a hospital gown, you still looked beautiful.
He strode forward and leaned in, wrapping his arms around you. You buried your face in his shoulder, hugging him back.
“I was worried you weren’t going to show,” you admitted.
Liam flushed. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t sure if I should come.”
“It wasn’t your fault,” you told him. “I knew you’d feel like it was. That’s why I told Scott to go talk to you.”
He balked at you. “You...you told Scott to come talk to me?”
You nodded. “He came in to check on me once my parents left to eat. When you weren’t with him, I figured you’d be beating yourself up about it.”
Scott had been right. You really were perfect for each other.
“You’re still in this mess because of me.”
“Yeah, but I made the choice to stay. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat. You’re telling me you wouldn’t do the exact same thing?”
He sighed and lowered himself down into the chair next to your bed. “No, I would’ve.”
“Look, there’s something I need to tell you,” you admitted. “I could never have left you, Liam. I know you wanted me to go, but if I’m gonna die, I’d rather do it with you. I love you too much to run away.”
He reached out, placing his hand over yours. “It wasn’t like I wanted to be away from you. I just thought that you would be safer. I was afraid of...well, this.”
He gestured to you, lying in the hospital bed.
“Oh come on,” you said with a roll of your eyes. “I’m fine. Plus, I’m gonna have a kickass scar. It’ll be just like a video game.”
You reached down and pulled up your hospital gown, revealing the gauze over your side. “I’m gonna look like a total badass.”
Liam grinned. “You already are a total badass.”
You smiled up at him, and he felt his heart skip. Without hesitating any longer, he leaned in, cupping your face with his hands and pressing a soft kiss to your lips. Being gentle wasn’t exactly his strong suit, but your bottom lip was still busted from when Gabe had punched you.
“I love you,” he murmured, pulling back to look down at your face. “And whatever happens, I want you by my side.”
You nodded. “Me too.”
He pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead, and you shifted to the other side of the hospital bed. You patted the space beside you.
“Are we allowed to do that?” he asked.
“I just got shot,” you complained. “I should be able to do whatever I want.”
Without another thought, Liam crawled up beside you. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pulled you close so that your side was pressed against his. You snuggled into him, and for the first time in months, he felt like everything would be okay.

George Weasley x Reader - Stay Here.
A/N: Hello! I’m back with another fic and this time it’s a George one. This is the longest fic I’ve written so far and the first time that I’ve written any smut (there’s only a little bit right at the end so if you’re under 18 don’t read it) please let me know if you enjoy!
Warnings: fluffy smut. its nothing too bad but don’t read if you’re under 18. there’s also a bit of angst and mentions of cheating in relationships. Quite a lot of swearing as well.
2.5k words
masterlist here
“Don’t fucking speak to her like that.” George step foot into their house, “if I were you, I’d let go of her arm and let her come with me. She clearly doesn’t want to be with a piece of shit like you,”
“No! You do this every time! Every single fucking time you tell me that it won’t happen again and it always fucking does,” Y/N yelled.
“It’s not like that! You know it’s not like that, babe.” Her boyfriend tried to calm her down.
             “Don’t you ‘babe’ me after what you’ve done. This is the third time now! What do you expect me to do, let you cheat on me time and time again and keep giving you chance after chance?” she stormed up the stairs and into their bedroom.
             “I didn’t cheat! Jess is just a friend!” he yelled, following her into bedroom
             “Last time I checked, you don’t fuck your friends,” she grabbed a bag from the closet and began throwing clothes into it.
             “You’re one to talk, that ginger little prick you’re friends with is constantly up your arse. He basically undresses you with his eyes every time you’re together!”
             “Don’t try and turn this around on me. George is my friend, and you know that. You’re just jealous because I enjoy spending time with him because he isn’t a dick like you are.” She turned around to leave the room. Her boyfriend grabbed her arm and pulled her back in, slamming the door shut and leaning against it.
             “I swear to god, if you don’t move out of my way…” she drew her wand out and pointed it at him. She barged past him and into the bathroom, locking the door behind her. She took her phone from her pocket and held it to her ear.
             “Please, please can you come and get me.”
 A short while later there was a knock at the door. Y/N rushed to get there before her boyfriend did but by the time she had reached the last step the front door had already been swung open.
             “What the fuck are you doing here?” her boyfriend spat.
             “I’ve come to pick Y/N up,” George replied firmly. Her boyfriend span around quickly to look at her.
             “Oh, of course you rang him,” he raged, “why aren’t I surprised?”
             “Jack, can you please just get out of the way,” Y/N pleaded, trying to get around him.
             “Why should I? so you can go to his house and fuck him like you’ve always wanted to,” he pointed at George accusingly.
             “Don’t fucking speak to her like that.” George step foot into their house, “if I were you, I’d let go of her arm and let her come with me. She clearly doesn’t want to be with a piece of shit like you,”
             “And why should I-”
George didn’t even give him time to reply before landing a harsh punch on his jaw. Jack staggered back a few paces, fury spreading over his face before launching himself at George. George fell backwards against the wall, holding Jack at arms-length.
             “Y/N, go and get in the car,” he strained, “I’ll be out in a minute.”
She did as he said and got into the passenger seat of his car. She sat in silence for a few moments before breaking down into fits of tears. What was she going to do? Her whole life had been shattered before her very eyes. She didn’t have anywhere to live now that she had walked out. After what seemed like an age, George returned to the car, slamming the door shut as he got in.
             “He’s a right foul, git, d’you know that?” he wiped some blood off of his lip. Y/N nodded silently and began sobbing again. George didn’t say another word the whole journey back to his flat. The pair sat in silence, Y/N gazed out of the window into the night, looking at all the lit-up houses and wondering if they were filled with happy couples. The car slowed as they arrived at George’s. He still had noy spoken a word. Walking round to the other side of the car, he opened Y/N’s door for her. It was as she stood up in front of him, he realised how broken she looked. Her eyes that used to light up at his jokes were bloodshot. Her normally rosy cheeks now tearstained. The girl that stood in front of him looked small and scared.
             “C’mon, let’s go inside.” He took her hand and led here through the front door.
George and Fred still lived together, their home was a place of sanctuary for Y/N when her and Jack used to fall out. She had spent countless nights on their sofa in front of the fire. As they walked through the hallway, she noticed the glow of the living room light peaking out under the doorway. Fred was still awake. George opened the door for her and ushered her through.
             “Where the bloody hell have you been? It’s getting la-” Fred’s sentence trailed off as her caught sight of Y/N, tears still leaking from her eyes. His eyes then glanced over to George, who’s nose was still a bit bloody and his lip now swelling up.
             “What the fuck happened?” Fred sounded astonished.
             “Jack and I broke up,” Y/N choked out, “I found out he was cheating on me again,”
             “He’s a right nasty piece of work,” Fred stood up, “d’you want me to go round there and sort him out?”
             “I sorted it,” George confirmed, sitting down on the sofa, “Chuck me that box of tissues will you, Fred?” He cleaned up the rest of the blood from his nose. Y/N sat down next to George. The three made conversation for a few moments.
             “I’m going to go to bed, give me a shout if you need anything, yeah?” Fred departed.
 Y/N and George sat in silence again, until Y/N spoke.
             “I’m sorry,” her words seemed to echo in the silent room.
             “What are you on about?” George raised an eyebrow at her.
             “I’m sorry that you always have to sort me out,” she sniffed, “I’m sorry that every single time Jack and I used to argue you had to come and get me. I’m sorry that he hurt you and I’m sorry that you have to put up with me being all upset,”
             “Oh, Y/N,”
             “I’m just, I’m really scared, George. I can’t go back there. All my stuff is there. I don’t have a home anymore.”
             “I know, love.” He looked sad, “but you’re away from him now. And in the meantime, you can stay here and you can have a job at our shop until we get you back on your feet.”
             “Really? You’d do all that for me?” she turned round to look at him properly. It was the first time in a while that George had really seen her up close. He’d always thought that she was beautiful and dare he even say, he’d always had a bit of a soft spot for her. But it just so happened that she had always had a boyfriend. Besides, George was certain that she didn’t see him in that way.
             “Of course, I would, Y/N, you’re my friend.” That last word seemed to ring in his ears as soon as it left his mouth. Friend. That was all that he was to her. Her friend. She leaned into him and rested her head on his shoulder.
             “Thank you, Georgie.”
 Y/N had been living with Fred and George for a few weeks now. She filled her days by working long hours in the joke shop. She didn’t mind though; it kept her mind off of things and allowed her to spend some more time with the twins. She had grown even closer with them in the last few weeks, particularly with George. They would stay up late at night to speak to each other, even though they both had work early in the morning. If Y/N didn’t feel like she had a wedge of ice stabbed through her heart, she might have said that she was falling for George. She knew that it was probably going to take a while for her to begin to trust people again, for her to be ready to give her all to someone, knowing that they could take it all away from her, like had been done in the past though. Surely, though, if she was going to fall for anyone, George Weasley would be perfect. He was kind and patient and funny. He made Y/N know that he was there for her when she was feeling down. It was on one of Y/N’s days off from the shop that Fred confronted his brother about it.
               “You love her.” He said bluntly, as he refilled the shelves of Weather in a Bottle. George stayed quiet, “You do,”
             “I know, Fred. I know I do,” George looked distressed, “but she doesn’t see me like that,”
             “I know you’re my twin brother and everything, Georgie, but bloody hell you’re not as clever as me,” Fred teased, “It’s obvious.”
             “What is?”
             “That she likes you back, you muppet,” Fred laughed, “have you not seen the way she looks at you? Like you’re shining the sun out of your arse.” George chuckled, shaking his head at his twin. For the rest of the day he found himself smiling. All his thoughts were filled with Y/N, he couldn’t wait to get home. When he eventually step foot into their flat, they began their nightly routine of having dinner together and then chilling out in front of the fire. Y/N was sprawled out on the sofa reading her book, her head resting in George’s lap as he watch the T.V. For some reason, he felt nervous being around her, like he should make some sort of move or something.
             “You look tense,” Y/N sat up and turned to face him, “what’s up?”
             “Nothing, I’m just a bit tired that’s all,”
Y/N put her head against his shoulder, nudging her way in so his arm was around her. George shot her a quizzical look.
             “I just wanted a cuddle,” she shrugged, “sleeping on this sofa is killing my back,”
             “You can have my bed tonight if you want,” George offered smiling at her. She stood up and made her way out of the living room.
             “Night, then?” George said, puzzled.
             “Are you not coming? I’m sure we can both squeeze into your bed.”
 George grinned as he climbed into his bed next to her. They lay facing each other for a little while, neither of them muttering a word. Y/N’s nose was practically touching his, he could feel the warmth of her breathe on his face. She fluttered her eyes shut for a moment. George mustered up all the courage he could find and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Her eyes snapped open, and for a second, she looked a bit taken aback. George’s heart sank for moment, until her lips met his for the second time. She was kissing him. It was as if all of the fireworks in their joke shop had gone off inside of him. What started out as a sweet kiss deepened as George crept his tongue into her mouth. He could feel her lips smiling against his and she climbed on top of him. He sat up, wrapping his arms around her waist to pull him closer to her. Y/N’s hands grabbed at the hem of his t-shirt, jerking it off of him. She trailed her kisses down from his lips to his neck. George groaned slightly. Her kisses moved down to his shoulder and she started making her way down his kiss, leaving fleeting kisses as she moved.
             “Wait, Y/N,” George mumbled.
             “What?” She pushed her hair out of her face so she could look at him.
             “This isn’t just… I don’t know how to say it,” he looked worried.
             “Just say it, Georgie,” Y/N moved so she was straddling him now.
             “I’m not just some rebound to you, am I?” he blurted out, “because I don’t want to do this if it doesn’t mean anything.” Y/N smiled at him.
             “Of course you’re not just a rebound,”
             “Good. Because I love you, Y/N, I really, really do,” he smiled, “it broke my heart seeing you all upset. I just wanted to be the one to make you feel better.”
             “You have, George. I promise you, you have. I think I love you too. I’m just so, so scared of getting my heart broken again,”
             “I could never do that, love.” George sat up, so that once again, their noses were brushing against each other. This time, he kissed her more passionately. Flipping her over so that she was lying beneath him, her hair splayed out on his pillow. He toyed with the hem of her shirt for a few seconds before removing it and throwing it onto the floor. Wet kisses were placed against her neck and he began moving down her body, leaving gentle kisses along the waistband of her pyjama bottoms before removing them as well. Positioning himself between her legs, he took a final look at the girl that lay in front of him before slipping a finger inside of her. She gasped and tangled her hands in his hair as he began to lap at her.
“You sure you want to carry on?” he asked.
             “Please,” she nodded.
             “If you change your mind, just tell me to stop, okay?” The girl nodded again. Quickly, he removed his underwear and moved so that he was hovering over her, his arms either side of her head. He positioned himself and entered her slowly, giving her time to adjust before he quickened his pace. Y/N gasped and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his body against hers. George was moaning gently in her ear, whispering sweet nothings as he fucked her.
             “You’re so beautiful, Y/N. I hope you know that.”
 The next morning, Y/N woke up with her body entangled with George’s. One of his long arms wrapped around her waist and his legs intertwined with hers.
             “Good morning, darling,” he smiled softly. His hair was all messed up from the activities of the night before.
             “Morning,” Y/N beamed back at him.
             “We better get up before Fred wonders where we both are.”
 As the pair entered the living room, they were greeted by Fred, who sat on the sofa staring at them with a knowing look.
             “I go to bed early one night and you two can’t keep your hands off each other,” he chucked, shaking his head at them jokingly, “I don’t even want to know what happened in there last night, all I know is that Lee owes me 5 galleons.”
             “Why?” Y/N asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
             “He didn’t reckon that you two would get together this side of Christmas,” he grinned, “I was right, of course, I knew it wouldn’t take you two long.”

I'll be waiting for your responses eagerly. Come at me!
Warnings: Blood. Stabbing.
[Previous chapter] - [Next chapter]
Part 13
The night of the party. Helmut had organised an outfit to be delivered to you before hand, so right now you have been in your room awaiting it.
You had been waiting in worry. Every possible outcome of how tonight could go had run through your head. You were certain Walker would make an appearance tonight and you had to be on high alert to protect Zemo.
A knock sounds at your door. You get up and answer it. One of the maids stands there with a box in her arms. She holds it to you. You take it, thanking her. The maid leaves. You close the door and walk over to your bed, where you then place the box. You open it.
You can't help the chuckle that escapes you.
You take out the expensive looking clothes. You already knew he had fine taste, but to think he would extend that to you, it was almost overwhelming. You don't think you've ever worn something that looked like it's price tag may have more zeroes than you're comfortable with.
Regardless, you put it on.
Just as you're about done getting ready, there is another knock at your door. This time you look at yourself in the mirror as your heart skips a beat. You don't look like you. At least, not a you that you've ever known. It felt strange not to be putting on your usual suit to do a job.
You looked amazing. There was no better way to put it.
Another knock.
"Come in."
Helmut opens the door and slips into the room. You watch him in the reflection of the mirror. You smile, unable to contain it. After his confession, you feel all the more giddy when you see him.
It comes as no surprise he is also dressed to the nines. The man has immaculate taste in everything.
He's smiling at you.
Helmut comes to stand behind you, but by the time he gets there, you're standing up and facing him. The way he looks at you makes you forget how to breathe for a moment and you have to try and gather yourself without looking like a fool.
He chuckles softly.
"Absolutely breathtaking," he whispers.
"Yes, you are," you say, not really meaning to say that out loud, but it's too late to take it back. You know he heard you because of his smile.
He reaches out. You do nothing as he pulls you a little closer and looks at you.
"Shall we?" He asks, voice soft and low.
You nod.
Helmut offers you his arm. You take it. You walk together upstairs to the main hall of the estate. When you get there you are greeted with a crowd of people. So many people. The whole estate had people walking around, laughing, chatting, and dancing.
"You went all out."
Helmut smiles smugly.
"I told you, my house, I'll do what I like. I wanted a party, so a party we shall have."
He guides you further into the room. He smiles at people as you both pass through the crowds.
You had to admit, it was a thrilling experience. You had never been to a party like this, well, as a guest anyway. Normally you were on the sidelines observing and looking for any trouble.
Speaking of, you briefly catch your friends on duty. They are scattered about the room, all in great spots should things happen, but you also wondered if it was enough.
If John Walker was serious about killing Zemo, then he would use this party to his advantage, and would be smart about it too. Zemo was practically inviting him into his own, daring him to come and try.
That's what worried you the most.
"May I have this dance?" The Baron asks, smiling at you in the centre of the room.
You chuckle softly.
"I suppose."
He rolls his eyes with a grin and pulls you in close. You hope he cannot hear your heart racing rapidly in your chest. This man was making you feel things you never thought you would ever experience. How could he get you to swoon with so few actions and words?
The smile he gives you is devastatingly handsome. You're resisting the urge to melt in his arms as his eyes sparkle with a mischievous glint.
You're pulling against his chest, his face right close to your ear. You don't have to look to know he's smiling.
"See? Nothing to worry about. Just the two of us dancing in a crowded room."
"You realise that's what worries me? The room is packed with people. He could be here."
Helmut moves his head so he can look at you. His expression has fallen into something more serious.
"I won't let him hurt you."
"Stop it. That's my job. My life before yours," you tell him.
He shakes his head slowly.
"You don't understand, darling. I'm not here tonight as the Baron. I'm here as Colonel Zemo. I don't care of you're my bodyguard. Walker is a dead man if I see him, and then I'm going to take you in a proper date. I'm serious about you."
You stare at him, looking for a hint that he was messing with you, but you found nothing.
"Colonel Zemo?" You whisper.
Oh. Hearing you say that made his spine tingle. His eyes drop to your lips. You notice that. His eyes return to yours. He doesn't hesitate to kiss you.
You melt against him at last.
You give yourself to him fully. It's safe to say, you have made Helmut Zemo the proudest and happiest man in the world.
His lips were soft and warm. Your fingers, which were threading through his hair, felt how soft and fluffy his hair was. These aren't things you had thought about before, but now you write sure you wouldn't be forgetting this moment.
You wanted to stay like that forever.
Screaming.
You hear screaming.
Both of you part ways and turn your head sharply in the direction it was coming from. Helmut wraps his arms around you and holds you close to him. His gaze is hard and cold as he tries to find out what's going on.
Though you're still flustered from the kiss, you are quick to get your head back into the game.
You realise what he's doing and switch it up, pulling him behind you roughly. He is less than impressed of your move.
More screaming. People begin to scatter.
"Let me protect you," he hisses in your ear.
You turn to face him and shake your head.
"Y/N."
A gunshot rings out. You give Helmut a hard shove. He scatters backwards,unable to grab onto anything to stay upright. You look up and nod.
Natasha had her eyes in you. She nods back and does not hesitate to hop over the railing of the balcony above. She lands with a hard thud and hurried over to where the Colonel was now sitting up.
You're gone. He can't see you. In that second you had pushed him, you had rushed off and now he couldn't see you.
"Y/N!"
Natasha grabs him by the arms and pulls him up. He doesn't even look at her. He tries to push her away to go look for you, but she's tougher than she looks. Natasha holds him back.
"We have to go."
"No. If this is Walker, Y/N is not safe," he growls.
"Look, I know you're in love with them, we love them too, but Steve made a promise with them and I'm not about to break it."
Helmut turns to look at her sharply.
"What did they promise?"
"That we would carry on with our duty no matter what happened."
He glares harshly. He is not here to play nice. Helmut had only just won you over, he was not about to lose you now.
"Let go of me."
She does not.
"That's an order."
She releases him. He adjusts his jacket and storms off through the crowds, who were making their way out. This was not the party they had come for.
Natasha sighs.
"Forgive me, Y/N." She storms off after Zemo, not willing to let him go alone.
When you pushed Zemo down, your eyes caught sight of the man you hated more than anyone. He was smirking at you. He bolted the moment you saw him. You gave chase. You chased him up the long staircase, away from the party.
The crowds were thinning, he would have no one to hide behind. That also left you open too.
You saw him dart into one of the guest bedrooms. You rushed over to the door and opened it rapidly, coming to a step inside.
You didn't see Walker.
However, the room wasn't empty. Hoskins, Walker's right hand man, was standing opposite you. He had a gun in his hand, aimed right at you.
"Where is he?" You ask.
"Not here."
"This is a trap isn't it?"
He smiles, but it's not a happy smile.
"You've left the Baron's side. He's exposed."
"I can assure you, he is well guarded."
"Is he? Do you even know who you are up against?"
"I know the type of person I'm up against," you say, heart beating faster than you would like.
You're scared. You are genuinely scared.
Hoskins can see your fear.
"You're afraid. Walker already has an advantage over you."
You shake your head.
"This is a trap."
"You're smart. He likes that. Heike was smart too. It's something he loved about her."
You shake your head and turn around quickly. However, your exit is blocked. Walker stands menacingly in the doorway. He stares down at you with a sinister grin upon his face.
In his hand is a knife, glistening in the light.
Your fear grows. You didn't want to be here. You didn't want to be alone.
"Helmut..." you whisper.
Walker steps closer.
"It's a shame he had to fall in love with you. If he hadn't, your life wouldn't matter so much to me. Now, I need to use you to break down his walls."
"He will kill you," you stay, trying to keep your voice level.
"No. He will bend to me. He will kneel down and do whatever I want him to. He will bend to me."
It happens so quickly.
The knife is plunged into your abdomen. You can only stare wide eyed at Walker as your hand grab at his wrist. Even in your panicked state, where you stand with a knife in you, you know you need that knife to stay there.
Walker knows you need that knife to stay there.
That's why he takes it out.
You fall to your knees as your hands try cover the wound. He drops the knife near you and gives you a push a with his boot clad foot. You topple over and gasp loudly. Tears fall, gasps escape your lips rapidly.
Your blood was warm in your hands.
Walker and Hoskins step over you and leave. You lie there, hands at your stomach, eyes trained on the door.
You were supposed to protect him.
Helmut...
As if he had heard your thoughts, the man himself enters the room. It was the only room on this floor with door left wide open.
Walker and Hoskins were long gone.
All thoughts leave him as he kneels down beside you. He cradles you, trying to be mindful of your wounds, but he is so overcome with worry, he isn't careful enough.
"No. No!"
You look up at him. You're bleeding all over him now.
"Helmut..."
He hushes you, look down at you as he place one hand on your cheek. He needs you to look at him.
"Why did you have to run off like that?"
You go to answer but he stops you.
Natasha enters in a rush. She can't believe what she's seeing. This is far worse than last time. There was so much red.
"GET HELP!" Helmut yells, looking up at her.
Natasha scurried away.
You cry softly.
Helmut leans down and presses soft, though slightly sloppy, kisses to your forehead. He cradles you to him, using one hand to press over yours where the wound bled profusely.
"You'll be OK. You're going to be fine."
You can only cry softly as you try to cling to his warmth.
You can hear his soft cries. You can feel his heart hammering away inside his chest.
"Helmut..."
"Don't talk," he says, closing his eyes as he holds you. You were going to be alright. He would make sure of it. He will look after you.
"I love you."
He looks down at you quickly, lips parted as he tries to work put if he actually heard that.
"I love you," you said again.
"You do?" He asks, softly.
You manage a smile.
"I do."
It's then your eyes flutter closed. Panic sets in and he gives you a shake.
"Stay awake."
You keep your eyes closed.
"Y/N, stay awake!"
Nothing.
Steve and Bucky reach the end of the corridor. Natasha had called for help, passing them along the way. As quickly as she could, she told them what happened.
As they reached the hall, they come to a stop.
A sound so broken comes from up ahead.
A cry so sad, so broken, so devastated, halts them in their tracks.
And they know it belongs to the Baron.
Both of them take off.
They reach the doorway and both want to take back everything they thought they were seeing.
They wanted to believe they weren't looking at Baron Helmut Zemo cradling your body.

“Yo Spenser” Your Uncle shouted walking into the garage. “You been ordering shit again?”
“Yo Spenser” Your Uncle shouted walking into the garage. “You been ordering shit again?”
“Would I?” You smirked looking up from the engine bay, wiping your hands on the rag.
“What you got this time?” He asked, sliding the box across the floor.
“New intercooler, air intake. engine mounts and BOV” you grinned grabbing your knife, cutting through the tape on the boxes.
“Am I sensing a remap coming along?” He grinned leaning against the car causing you to growl at him without looking up from the boxes.
“Yes and get your ass off the car before I stab you” you glared.
“You are definitely your old man's kid” he chuckled, grabbing a drink from the mini fridge. “Are we getting all this today?”
“Urm” you said glancing at the clock, Clay was home from deployment today so you needed to make sure you had the car back together in time. “Yeah or as much as we can, Clay is home today”
“Well then kiddo we best get cracking” Alex grinned “Can’t have you being late after not seeing him for the last three months”
“I will be happy is all we get is the air intake and BOV done today, the rest I can do with Clay” you grinned as you slipped your wedding and engagement ring off, placing them between your lips and you fiddled with the clasp on the chain that the other one of Clay’s dog tag sat proudly, slipping your rings onto the chain you secured it back around your neck. The last thing you needed was fucking your rings up. “I’ve lost count how many times these headlights have been off the car now”
“Same here kiddo” Alex smirked, tossing you the ratchet and socket. “Whist we at it we will see if we can sort this fucking bumper sag out”
“Yes it’s been pissing off for a while but doubt there’s much we can do, it’s a Ford remember, the Fez’s are known for bumper sag” you laughed as you pulled the first headlight out.
Tumblr media
“Come on you piece a shit just go in the hole goddammit” you shouted at the car as you tried to refit your bumper. “I don’t have time for you to be a cunt”
“And here I thought you loved this car” Alex laughed as he lifted the bumper up giving a bit more play to get the bolts in.
“Yeah well sometimes you need to threaten it and use brut force and ignorance” you laughed as you finally got the right side of the bumper secured. Just as your phone started ringing, placing a smoke between your lips you hit answer without checking who was calling.
“Where are you?” Emma practically shouted down the phone.
“Shit what time is it Em?” You panicked as you grabbed the other bolts, holding your phone between you ear, and cigarette in the corner of your mouth.
“Four thirty” she shouted “shit the plane is just coming into view, you haven’t got long”
“I’ve just gotta get my bumper back on kid, be there as quick as I can, I’m nearly done here. Just do whatever to stall Clay please”
You ended the call without saying bye, you didn’t have much time, the base was at least twenty minutes from her and you still had another five minutes of work and definitely no time to get changed.
In record time you managed to get the bumper back on the car, the tools were just dumped out the way, grabbing your bag and tossed it into the passenger seat. Starting the engine you didn’t even have time to appreciate the roar of the exhaust as you dipped the clutch slamming it into first, dropping the hand brake and wheel spinning out of the garage. Normally it would take twenty minutes to get to the base but you knew you could do it in ten.
Tumblr media
The moment the boys walked out of the base, Clay knew something was off, there wasn’t that deep grumble in the air from your car, glancing around he realised you wasn’t there and couldn’t help but laugh, he knew you had parts arriving and more than likely lost track of time.
“Right before you say anything I’ve been asked to stall you” Emma laughed as she looked over Jason’s shoulder. “Something about she still had her bumper to fit, I dunno she might as well been speaking a different language”
“Garage is what twenty minutes away?” Sonny asked.
“Yeah she will get her in ten though” Clay laughed scratching his beard. “How long ago did you speak to her?”
“About twenty minutes ago” Emma nodded giving Clay a hug.
Soon enough there was a grumble that could be heard in the distance making Clay smile, he never needed to know when you arrived your car told him that you were only a mile out. He knew how guilty you were going to feel for being late and he was going to play. So there he stood, bag on the floor next to him, hands shoved in his pockets looking around for you with a sad look on this face.
“That’s evil Blondie” Sonny laughed leaning against his truck, no one had left yet because they wanted to see things play out.
You practically threw the car around the corner as you entered the base car park, you felt like the worst wife ever, having not seen you husband for three months you were late for him getting home. Reaching down you wrapped your fingers around the handbrake, yanking it up as you stomped on the clutch, pulling the steering wheel to the left, sliding the car through the car park stopping a few feet away from Clay.
Climbing out of the car you ran over to him throwing yourself into his arms. His arms instantly wrapping around your waist, he couldn’t keep the act up when it came to you.
“I am so fucking sorry I’m late, the bumper wouldn’t go back on” you rambled.
“Babygirl it’s fine” he whispered squeezing you tight. “I know you love the car more than me”
“Hey that’s not fair” you pouted but laughing “I would have been on time but the fez wasn’t playing ball”
“Stop panicking, you can just make it up to me later” Clay laughed as he placed you on your feet, draping his arm around your shoulder picking his bag up. “Out of interest how long did it take to get here?”
“Eight minutes” you laughed opening the boot.
“Getting quicker” Clay winked before looking over at Sonny. “Tell me you got it on film”
“Of course, number one rule when it comes to the female Spenser is always have your phone on record” Sonny laughed.
“Wanna go for a drive and see where we end up?” You whispered running your finger down Clay’s chest whilst you stole his cap, placing it on your head.
“I like your thinking” he smirked, slapping your arse.
The two of you had been driving for about an hour now, no music was on as you could now enjoy the labour of your work. Every time you changed gear you heard the turbo flutter making you laugh every time. This was the time Clay loved the most, watching you drive, watching as your eyes sparkled, your grin getting bigger by the second and you laughing at yourself.
Pulling into the car park you and Clay had found one day whilst driving, you pulled the handbrake on putting the car into neutral but left it running.
“So I was thinking” you whispered “I want to try something that involves you, me and the car”
“Oh yeah” he smirked, running his hand up your bare thigh. “And what’s this idea babygirl”
“I wanna ride you whilst you are against the bonnet” you breathed closing your eyes at the thought “I want you to take me over the bonnet and fuck me”
“Do you know how long I’ve waited for you to say that” he hummed against your lips “why are we still sat in the car baby”
You never moved so fast in your life, there was just something naughty about this, the fact you could get caught just added to it. You couldn’t help but bite your lip as Clay leant against the bonnet of the car with his jeans dropped round his knees, closing the gap between you, you wrapped you hand around his hard dick, slowly pumping it making him moan as he undid your the button on your shorts. Doing a little wiggle as he pushed the material down, they dropped to your ankles allowing you to step out of them. The moment you lost your thong Clay picked you up positioning your over his dick.
Slowly you sunk down on his length, gasping at the feeling, you were taking things slow as it had been three months and Clay wasn’t exactly small.
“Fuck” you breathed against his lips.
“I know baby” he whispered “so fucking tight”
After a few minutes Clay started lifting you up and down, fully taking your weight as he helped you ride him against your car.
“Clay” you moaned as he changed the pace up, before standing off the car, slamming you down on the bonnet.
“God I missed this feeling” he grunted as he thrusted hard into you making you arch your back, bucking your hips up to get him deeper.
“Fuck fuck fuck” you moaned as his thumb found your clit matching the pace of his hips, “oh god”
“That’s it baby” he groaned biting down on his bottom lip, “fuck I can feel you getting tighter babygirl”
“Clay I’m so close” you whimpered, making him smirk, he knew you were close by how your body was reacting but loved hearing you say it.
It only took a few more hard thrusts for him to send you over the edge screaming his name out for the whole world to hear as you rode out your high, but he didn’t stop thrusting as he chased his own release making your whimpers and moans to get louder, it didn’t help the car was still running so you had the added vibration of the engine beneath you, feeling his grip on your hips tighten he gave one fine thrust, moaning as he came.
Leaning forward he kissed you lovingly as you both regained your breath, his ass on view for every man and their dog to see but neither of you cared, you were too lost in each other.
"I don't know who's louder baby, the grumble of the exhaust or you" he laughed against your lips.
“Definitely me” you giggled, placing your hand on the side of his face, gently caressing his cheek with your thumb as you got lost in his eyes. “I missed you so much”
“I know babygirl, I missed you too, but I’m home now” he breathed, his eyes dropping to your rings around your neck, moving his hands he undid the clasp, sliding the rings off the chain. Before taking your left hand. “Let’s get these back where they belong” he whispered, sliding them back onto your finger before kissing them.
“What do you wanna do now?” You smiled as you leant your head back against the bonnet.
“I was thinking we head home, get a takeaway and cuddle on the sofa, maybe with round two and three thrown in” he smirked as he pulled out of you. He quickly disappeared but returned with a pair of boxers for his bag to clean himself and you up, once the pair of your were dressed he took your hand pulling you into his arms.
“Damn you’ve got some energy today” you giggled looking up at him.
“Well when you have a wife that’s as gorgeous and as fit as you it happens” he laughed kissing your head. “I love you baby”
“I love you too” you whispered “you can drive home, I don’t think my legs are working yet”
“You must love me if you are letting me drive”

BnHA Chapter 287: Family Reunion
Previously on BnHA: The Tomura For One VS Deku And Pals clusterfuck reached new levels of clustfuckery as AFO possessed Tomura’s body and stabbed Kacchan and Endeavor. Shouto was all “good thing I leveled up offscreen so as to be able to fly around whilst carrying 400lbs worth of people”, and did just that and it was like, damn, son. Meanwhile Deku’s rage went Mach 100, and he kicked Tomura’s ass for almost two whole seconds, but in the process he apparently forgot that IF TOMURA TOUCHES HIM THAT IS VERY BAD, and so he stupidly let Tomura touch him and Tomura was all “GAME, SET.” Fortunately for Deku, his quirk plays by its own rules, and so the chapter ended with us cutting to the METAPHYSICAL OFA/AFO PARANORMAL DREAMSCAPE OF MYSTICAL BULLSHIT, where AFO!Vestige was all “lol Tomura y u mad”, and Nana!Vestige was all “SUP DEKU, YOU’RE JUST IN TIME, LOOKS LIKE IT’S ASSKICKING O’CLOCK.” I’m paraphrasing a bit, but that’s more or less the gist of it.
Today on BnHA: AFO is all “well if it isn’t Tomura’s grandmother who I murdered that one time”, and Deku is all “?”, and AFO is all “fucking vestiges, man, wild”, and Deku is all “??”, and AFO is all “ANYWAYS GETTIM TOMURA”, and OFA is all “NOT SO FAST”, and Deku is all “???”, and really, same. AFO then goes off on some wild tangent about how Deku is unworthy because he couldn’t protect everyone and needed help from OFA and got mad about his friends being stabbed, which is such a cold take it gave me hypothermia, but it ends up not mattering since Deku and Tomura both wake up seconds later with OFA still in the possession of its rightful owner, HOW ABOUT THAT. The chapter ends with the LoV approaching on Gigantomachia’s back with Dabi practically salivating at the mouth, and Toga trying to reignite an old fandom blood feud. Toga why would you do this to me. Toga.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
Tumblr media
[CROWD LOSING THEIR MINDS] FINALLY THE NANA HAS COME BACK TO BNHA!! IF YA SMELLLLL WHAT THE NANA IS COOKIN!!!!! [RINGSIDE BELL CHIMING WILDLY] [LOUD AIRHORN NOISES]
“chapter 287: mistake” omg. yeah I’ll say you made a mistake, AFO. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THESE FLEETING LAST MOMENTS OF YOUR SHITTY EVIL LIFE
(ETA: so in all seriousness this must be referring to AFO’s belief that All Might/OFA made a mistake in choosing Deku, right? “I can’t believe you went and chose this shounen manga protagonist as your champion, what were you thinking.” I’ll just put this out there: however many comic books AFO read as a child, it clearly was not enough.)
wow Deku how slow are you
Tumblr media
yes you’re inside OFA you dimbulb, did you think your clothes suddenly vanished out of the blue and the ghost of Nana just randomly appeared in the real world by some freak coincidence?? can you believe this kid. breaks his arms a measly 10-15 times in a row and all of a sudden he can’t think straight, get it together Deku
but also brb having a moment at the fact that his thoughts immediately run back to Kacchan, even with all of this nonsense going on and Nana about to lay the beatdown on AFO’s potato-lookin’ ass. forget that noise, all he wants to know is whether or not Kacchan is all right. fuckin’ geez. AM I OVERREACTING HERE A BIT. probably
(ETA: ALSO!! the way he just trails off!! “Kacchan is...” and then he can’t bring himself to complete the thought. oh my god my heart.)
HOLY SHIT
Tumblr media
okay,
damn but this man sure knows how to ruffle my feathers. as eminently detestable as ever!!
could it be any clearer here that AFO is not on Tomura’s side?? for a moment I thought he had actually grabbed him by the back of the head in order to get him to look. but nope, he’s just resting his pointing hand on top of his head instead while he’s all “HEY TOMURA LOL IT’S THE GHOST OF YOUR DEAD PATHETIC GRANDMA”
for those keeping track at home, this would be the first time that Deku has heard this information -- that Tomura is Nana’s grandson -- and possibly the first time Vestige!Nana has heard it as well. Nana died when Kotarou was still a child, so for all we know the Vestige!Nana didn’t even know she had a grandson, lol. TODAY ON “MAKESTE RANTS AT LENGTH ABOUT THINGS THAT WILL PROBABLY BE ADDRESSED WITHIN THE NEXT THREE PANELS”, anyway moving on
lmao for the record I fucking LOLed at this giant question mark immediately bubbling up over Deku’s head
Tumblr media
no idea what AFO is about to ramble on about now, haven’t read that far yet. but let the record show that Deku’s immediate reaction to hearing “BTW NANA IS YOUR ARCHNEMESIS’S GRANDMA LULZ” is everything I could have hoped for
(ETA: fandom nailed the shit out of this one with the confused Mr. Krabs meme lmao.)
okay so now AFO is monologuing at length about how he would sometimes have “riveting dreams” about the previous owners of all the quirks he stole. but once he gave the quirks away they stopped bothering him?? holy moly let me just take all the notes
okay so he’s saying that Vestiges are created whenever someone has their quirk stolen by AFO. but if they then disappear when he gives the quirks away, does that also mean that whoever receives the quirks also gets the original owner’s Vestige bundled in every time?? that would be wild okay hold up let me read the rest of this
Tumblr media
so he’s saying that the Vestiges are actually the “consciousnesses” of the original quirk owners, which have become embedded in their dna or something. SOUNDS INCREDIBLY DUBIOUS TO ME LOL but on the other hand this is a world where children can be born with airplane heads, so my disbelief can hardly afford to pick and choose what it’s gonna be suspended at! anyways though, how does he know he’s the only one who was able to converse with them? did you conduct detailed six-month follow-up interviews with everyone you gave quirks to or what
and if it really is the case that this ability was formerly exclusive to him, isn’t that more evidence than ever that OFA and AFO are actually THE EXACT SAME QUIRK oh whoops am I getting ahead of myself again, sorry
MEANWHILE TOMURA IS ALL, “GRANDMA?”
Tumblr media
“WHY AM I HERE, WELL LET ME TELL YOU A STORY, GRANDSON. YOU SEE THAT MAN GROWING OUT OF YOUR RIBCAGE THERE? WELL IT’S JUST THE FUNNIEST THING, ACTUALLY”
WAIT SO IS HE SAYING THEY’RE SOULS OR NOT??
Tumblr media
this makes it sound like they won’t ever get to rest, which sure sounds like a soul thing to me. well whatever, soul, consciousness, I guess it’s just semantics at the end of the day
anyways though, so this asshole is finally done talking (I’m sure that won’t last), so now we can finally have the heartwarming reunion we’ve all been waiting for
Tumblr media
sigh
-- actually, no, not “sigh”!! you know what!! because Tomura says “whatever the reason”, but that’s only because he doesn’t actually have a fucking clue about the reason. like, I don’t know if the knowledge that AFO killed Nana would be enough to give him pause, but if he knew the whole story and knew that AFO was behind not only Nana’s death, but the rest of his family’s deaths as well... now that would be a whole different thing
anyway. but at least it’s becoming clearer now why AFO spent all that time raising Tomura up as his heir and brainwashing him even though he seems to have been planning this body takeover the whole time. it’s all because he loves making people miserable! yaaaaay
btw HAS NANA HAD THE EXACT SAME MOLE ON HER CHIN AS TOMURA THIS ENTIRE TIME WTF. am I just the least observant person who ever lived lmao
lol wtf
Tumblr media
ground: [randomly starts exploding]
Deku: “ONE FOR ALL IS BEING ERODED!!!” LOL IS THAT WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE, OKAY THEN. I’ll take your word for it
y’all I cannot fucking get over this “AFO growing out of Tomura’s hip socket like a fucked-up ventriloquist dummy” shit though
Tumblr media
you do realize that absolutely no one can take you seriously right now, right?? it’s important to me that you know this
WHAT’S THIS NOW
Tumblr media
seems like SOMEONE has had it up to here with a certain SOMEONE ELSE’S bullshit lmaooo bye Felicia
Tumblr media
I SAID GOOD DAY!!
you guys why is he not dying!!
Tumblr media
-- OH DAMN
Tumblr media
love how Deku is just lying there like “YOU KNOW THOSE DAYS WHERE YOU’RE LIKE, THIS MIGHT AS WELL HAPPEN.” poor Deku
(ETA: where in god’s name is OFA Prime standing. why are my thoughts fully consumed by this lmao.)
are Nana and OFA Prime even doing anything?? why are they sticking their arms out like that. wait hold up is this all a big metaphor for the back-and-forth going on between Tomura trying to steal OFA and OFA being all “actually no you can’t, please enter your password and click on all the boxes with bicycles in them to prove you’re a human first”?
OH SNAP OFA PRIME SAID NO THANKS
Tumblr media
“SORRY BRO WE’VE ALREADY MADE OURSELVES AT HOME HERE”
I have only just noticed that metaphysical!Deku has the same scars as actual!Deku. and yet his arms are not currently broken! that doesn’t really seem consistent to me but whatever!! maybe he saved right before the boss battle, that would be smart of him
anyway, that’s great and all that OFA Prime is here helping out, but I really wanted to see Nana fight AFO in a one on one though so I’m a bit disappointed. also why is it only the two of them?? where are Banjou and the others. of all the times to be sleeping on the job
FOR FUCK’S SAKE, THIS MAN
Tumblr media
WOULD YOU STOP. WOULD YOU JUST QUIT IT ALREADY
oh shit hold up
Tumblr media
doesn’t this confirm that the reason he wanted to transfer his power to Tomura is because he believed it would make him strong enough to finally take OFA because of Quirk Singularity? jesus christ. and here he was so sure of himself. but it turns out he doesn’t actually know shit! you can’t just fucking take OFA like that ya dingdong that’s not how it works
(ETA: SO, A THOUGHT -- is there any sort of subtle hinting here in the way that he words this? “if your strength is combined with mine”, as opposed to “if my strength is combined with yours”? no idea if the admittedly-so-small-as-to-be-almost-inconsequential distinction between those two sentences exists in the original Japanese or not, but I find it very interesting that the English wording implies that he’s the one adding Tomura’s strength to his own, rather than vice versa.)
now he’s insulting Deku!!
Tumblr media
excuse me sir WHO ASKED YOU anyway. and never mind that being consumed by an, AND I QUOTE, “unquenchable” rage is your protege’s whole THING, and that he also needed your help to avoid being burned to a crisp a short while ago. where do you get off I swear
(ETA: also just want to point out that in the panel before this one he says that he’s been “watching through Tomura”, which pretty much confirms that his consciousness or whatever is alive inside of him all the time. Tomura is definitely not getting rid of this guy any time soon.)
WOW
Tumblr media
first he calls Kacchan useless, then he calls Deku a simpleton, and don’t even get me started with Nana. just, you guys. this man is just... a very, very rude man
NOW OFA IS ALL “THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A GOOD PROTAGNIST YOU BUTTMUNCH” AND OMG PREACH
Tumblr media
“DESPITE HIS COMMON SENSE” sdfkllk my man he already has one brother roasting him, take it easy guy
AHH WHAT
Tumblr media
IS THIS BACK IN THE REAL WORLD
YEP
Tumblr media
hahaha nice try Tomura
so Deku’s all “I didn’t lose my power! BUT” and I assume the “but” is the part where his arms are still broken and shit, and meanwhile Tomura’s body is almost healed up now finally
they’re both wiped out and now AFO is again petitioning Tomura to let him take over goddammit
Tumblr media
“you won’t lose your mind” yep, he sure won’t! scout’s honor!! pinky swear!!
meanwhile Deku is getting fucking desperate flkjl;k my baby. and Machia is going to show up any second now too, probably. what else can fucking go wrong at this point
oh shit I shouldn’t have asked
Tumblr media
get ready to rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuumble, probably
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
WELL AT LEAST SOMEONE HERE IS HAVING A GOOD TIME. jesus
so as soon as he heard Endeavor was there he got all, “TIME FOR THE BIG REVEAL”, is that right? WELL JOKE’S ON YOU TOUYA, YOUR DAD DOESN’T SEEM ALL THAT CONSCIOUS AT THE MOMENT, SO THAT’S GOING TO DRAIN A LOT OF THE TENSION FROM THE SCENE WHEN YOU GO ALL REVERSE DARTH VADER ON HIM AND HE’S ALL “ZZZZZZZZ”
meanwhile Toga is having unsettlingly quiet angst
Tumblr media
jesus christ Toga this is all we need right now
Tumblr media
“WAS JIN-KUN NOT A PERSON” sdkfjlk Horikoshi I swear. please have mercy on this fandom. this is the debate that refuses to die!!
but seriously ffs, the issue isn’t that Jin deserved to die, it’s that the countless people whom Jin would have either directly or indirectly killed didn’t deserve to die either. people don’t only become people when you attach names and faces to them! we all loved Jin because we’d gotten to know him, but that doesn’t mean his life was inherently worth more than the lives of all the people he would have killed. sometimes there’s just no good answer
like, it’s just crazy to me that because the heroes are all “we want to protect everyone!” but then aren’t always able to do so because that’s literally impossible, whereas the villains are all “we don’t care about anyone other than the select few people that we actually like!”, the villains somehow wind up getting the better PR. it just so happens that it’s infinitely easier to be loyal to the interests of a few people as opposed to ALL THE PEOPLE. like, no shit, it’s easier to stick to your moral code when you barely have a moral code. and so the villains can kill thousands and no one bats an eye, but if a hero fails to save even one person they’re hypocritical moral failures. like what the hell
BUT ANYWAY, sorry to go off on a tangent there lol, it’s not really a big deal. I’m just preemptively trying to stave off more discourse about it lol but who am I even kidding
anyways lol, but of course they won’t kill you unless they have no choice, Toga. but when it comes to catch-22 situations, it’s a bit much to infer that the heroes don’t consider the villains people just because they opt for the choice that spares more innocent lives. I sure as hell don’t want my babies out here killing people, but to say that they can’t no matter what or else they’re no different from the villains is just...
anyway so the chapter has now just ENDED, just like that!! on a shot of Ochako’s face!
Tumblr media
I SENSE ANOTHER THROWDOWN COMING. and it had better not be a total letdown like the last one! NANA BARELY DID ANYTHING HORIKOSHI, WHAT THE FUCK. I started out with such high hopes lol
but I will settle for Toga VS Ochako, and Deku VS Tomura: The Sequel: Shouto’s Revenge! SPEAKING OF HEROES WHO HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT MURDERING PEOPLE lmao

ao3: “christmas baubles” rating: T warnings: platonic dlampr, some violent humor, food, christmas genre: fluff (tiny bit of angst) description: Virgil spends Christmas with everyone. It goes surprisingly well. (this is written for @potatopriestlord for @sanderssidesgiftxchange ! happy holidays ♡)
It's Christmas time.
It's Christmas time, and Virgil doesn't know how to feel. This year, Patton's invited Janus and Remus. "A new beginning," he claimed, and who is Virgil to argue? He wants a new beginning. He does, but he just-
Well, it's not quite the same. He's used to Christmas with Janus and Remus and he's slowly becoming used to Christmas with Logan, Roman, and Patton, but- Combining them?
His heart stutters at the thought.
Don't be such a dummy, he tells himself as he carries in one last box of Christmas finery for the tree. The lights have already been strewn, in white and gold. Multi-colored tinsel is densely packed in one box, ready to be flung over evergreen branches in a rainbow tapestry. All that's left, really, are the ornaments.
Virgil isn't sure he's ready for the ornaments.
They aren't regular ornaments, you see. They aren't shiny glass baubles or childish popsicle stick and Elmer's glue contraptions. They're memories.
And he's painfully aware of every memory destined to fit on the tree.
"You ready, Virge?" Roman asks, a candy cane sticking out of his mouth. Virgil nods, swallowing his nerves back. It will be fine, he reminds himself. Just because Jan and Remus are coming this time doesn't mean anything will go wrong.
Roman hands him an ornament. It's a delicate reenactment of a cabin, snow falling down the windows in little drifts. Virgil grasps it with shaking fingers, his mind already drawn into the bauble's memory.
It's his first Christmas with the other sides since childhood. He doesn't want to intrude, but Patton insists. They don't even know his name yet, think he's nothing but a bother, but Virgil goes anyway because Patton gave him that look and he can't resist it.
They've transformed the commons into what looks like the inside of a cozy log cabin. Patton beams when he sees Virgil's hesitant tread down the stairs.
"You made it!" Patton says cheerfully. Logan gives him a cordial nod. Roman ignores him altogether, too focused on putting the last finishing touches on the tree. There are heaps of red and blue ornaments in various shades, but no purple, yellow, or green. Not that Virgil expected any.
"Uh, yeah," he says, shrinking into his hoodie. He feels like an imposition. Desperately wishing he could go back up the stairs and take refuge in his room, Patton instead takes his sleeve and tows him further in, handing him a mug of hot chocolate. It warms his perpetually chilled fingers and he can't help but awkwardly smile in thanks at the moral side.
"Thanks," he mumbles, his cheeks flaming like the sunset.
"Sorry," Roman apologizes, his face tinted red. "I um, I wasn't very princely that year."
"It's fine, Princey," Virgil says with a shrug. "The feeling was mutual, remember?" The next ornament is an old one. A fragile one. One that Virgil thought had been lost.
"Patton found that one," Roman tells him. "I haven't checked it out myself."
"Oh," Virgil says, feeling dazed. His fingertips brush the childish blobs of paint that stain the ornament's surface.
"Come on!" Creativity says impatiently, hopping down the stairs two at a time.
"You're gonna fall," Caution warns, flapping an oversized sweater sleeve. "Be careful."
"I am careful," Creativity retorts, but Caution notices that he takes the remaining steps a little slower. "Come on, Curiosity's already awake!"
"What 'bout Lies?" Caution asks. Creativity shrugs.
"Not sure," he says. "We gotta get Heart up, too. He's such a sleepyhead. Doesn't he know it's Christmas!?"
"I think the whole mind palace knows," Caution says dryly. Then he steps into the living room and gasps. An enormous Christmas tree squats proudly in the corner, decorated with strings of multi-colored lights and loads and loads of tinsel. Not a single ornament adorns its fluffy branches, causing Caution to give Creativity a curious look.
"It's not done," Creativity admits. "I thought- I thought the ornaments could hold memories! Of all the Christmasses we ever have together! Or like...other times, maybe, I don't know. Doesn't that sound cool?" He enthuses.
"Y-yeah," Caution stammers. "That- that sounds neat, Creativity."
"Show us how!" Curiosity exclaims, storming out of the kitchen. "I'll make the best memory ornament the world has ever seen!" Caution bursts into giggles, covering his mouth with one sleeve.
"Virgil?" Roman asks, touching his shoulder and drawing him out of the memory. "You okay?"
"Fine," Virgil says. "I'm fine. I just. Yeah." He sets the ornament down, as gently as if he cradled a snowflake, and hurried to his box. Dust still gathers, thick and cloying, on a few of the ornaments, buried in the back. The ones with Janus and Remus. He swallows hard, stretching out a hand to pluck the nearest one free.
"Remus, I swear to all that is holy if you have decided to replace the tinsel with tentacles again-" Janus threatens. Remus laughs, dancing backward around the tree as Janus chases him. Each evergreen branch is heavily laden with a wet and floppy tentacle, making Virgil scrunch his nose when he walks in.
"Again?" He complains mildly. Janus looks up, his face brightening.
"Virgil!" He exclaims. "You- you made it."
"Uh, yeah," Virgil says, his face flushed. "Um. I didn't- I didn't know that you uh, did anything? For Christmas?"
"Well, I'm sure it's nothing compared to the others," Janus dismisses, with one light wave of a gloved hand. "But Remus and I try our best. And now you! What tradition would you like to bring to the table, my dear Anxiety?"
Virgil blinks.
"Uh, what?" He asks, completely nonplussed. Remus grins and bounces forward, flapping his hands to make the ruffles on his sleeves move.
"Janus came up with it!" He explains. "We each get a Christmas tradition, just for us. Janus's is singing Christmas carols- only the funny ones- and mine is decorating the tree on December first. What do you want yours to be? It can be anything!"
"Anything?" Virgil asks. Janus looks like he regrets all his life choices, but he nods anyway.
"Anything," he confirms.
"Could- could it be making Christmas cookies?" He asks, hugging himself and remembering Patton's baking with a pang. Janus nods in agreement, though his own mismatched eyes look shadowed.
"Of course," Janus says. "To the kitchen!"
"To the kitchen!" Remus echoes in a howl, galloping toward the kitchen and nearly tripping over a stray tentacle.
Virgil's throat aches when he returns to himself. Their cookies had burned that time, because Remus forgot to set the timer, and truthfully, Virgil still isn't sure if Remus managed to add anything inedible to them, but the experience had been-
Well, the experience had been magical.
"Virgil," Janus greets him carefully. He has a dusty cardboard box held tightly in gloved hands, and his face is carefully neutral. He glances at the cookie-shaped ornament still clasped in Virgil's hands and the faintest dusting of pink brushes his cheekbones.
"Janus," Virgil greets just as carefully. Tension dissipates as Remus thumps his way between the two, lugging his own box.
"Virgey!" Remus exclaims. "Ice to see you!"
"It's nice-" Virgil starts, before realizing Remus is holding an icicle towards him. He recoils, setting the cookie ornament back down into the box, just as Remus laughs and dramatically stabs the icicle against his own heart. Nothing happens. Janus rolls his eyes, a fond smile tugging at his lips, as he watches Remus's antics.
"Janus, Remus!" Patton greets warmly. His words are only a little stilted when he realizes Remus is still holding a melting icicle, dripping all over the floor. Remus waves cheerily with it.
"This is a murder weapon!" He says, cheerful. Patton blanches.
"That's- that's nice," Patton says, recovering admirably. "I'm so glad you could make it!"
"Likewise," Janus drawls. He looks hesitantly down into his box of ornaments. Despite himself, Virgil cranes his neck to have a peek himself. He doesn't even have to touch it to be drawn into the first ornament's memory.
"Virgil, what do you want for Christmas?"
"Huh?" Virgil asks inelegantly, spinning around to see Janus leaning against the door of his bedroom, studying his glove with practiced casualness. He shoves his headphones down, curling around his neck, as he advances toward Janus.
"What do you want for Christmas?" Janus repeats. His snake eye gleams in the dim light. "It's a simple question, storm cloud."
"No, it isn't," he retorts, flustered. "There's so many things that are out there in the world, how could I possibly choose just one-"
"Who says it has to be one?" Janus's question stops him in his tracks.
"Be- because," he splutters. One side of Janus's mouth tips up in a crooked smile.
"We're figments of Thomas's imagination, we can have whatever we want," Janus says. Virgil doesn't point out that's not true, not really, doesn't mumble anything about wishing they could all have Christmas together for once. Instead, he stares at the ground and mutters something about new headphones.
"Well, that's easily done," Janus says lightly. "I'll ensure you get the prettiest lump of coal in your stocking, Virge. Unless Remus gets to it first." Virgil laughs despite himself and Janus's eyes light up, even as he saunters out the door.
The bauble, shaped like a pair of over-the-ear headphones, reluctantly lets Virgil free. He glances up to see Janus's own eyes, misty with memories.
"You kept it," Virgil mumbles. "You kept all of them."
"Of course I did," Janus says softly.
"Look at mine!" Remus exclaims, jostling his way between the two of them and shoving an ornament in Virgil's direction. It's shaped like a very misshapen pie and his startled fingers close around it, preventing it from clattering to the floor.
"Remus!" Virgil chases him around the kitchen, laughing only partly from frustration. Remus circles the kitchen island, cackling, holding the mixing bowl aloft.
"What's the matter, Fright Night?" Remus gleefully taunts.
"The matter is that batteries don't belong in pie crust and you know it!" Virgil exclaims, huffing out a breath and stirring his bangs.
"Sure they do," Remus says smugly. "They fit in here, didn't they?"
"That doesn't mean anything!" Virgil says, rolling his eyes. "A lot of things could fit in th- I mean-" Remus's eyes light up with a wicked gleam.
"A lot of things, you say?" He purrs. Virgil puts his face in his hands.
"Janus, how could you leave me with him?" He mutters into his palms.
"Because you can handle it," Janus retorts, appearing out of nowhere. He has a string of Christmas lights tangled around one arm. "Remus, put the bowl down."
"Yes, sir!" Remus says, saluting (thankfully with the hand not holding the bowl). The mixing bowl clatters to the counter.
"And help me with these lights for a minute, would you?" Janus implores. The wink he sends Virgil's way lets him know that he'll take charge of Remus, at least for a few minutes. Enough time for Virgil to fish out the batteries, if nothing else, and see if they need to start over.
"I remember that," Virgil mumbles. His cheeks feel like they're on fire. Remus beams at him.
"Good," he says. "Merry Christmas, Panic at the Emo."
"Likewise," Virgil mutters.
"Remus!" Roman shouts, startling all three of them. "Stop bothering Virgil and help me with these lights for the window."
"Same old, same old," Remus says, rolling his eyes in an exaggerated fashion and adding a little shoulder shimmy. He shoves his box of ornaments in Virgil's arms and dashes to his brother's rescue.
"Thanks," Virgil says dryly, looking after Remus's departing back.
"I can take them," Janus offers. Virgil sighs and shakes his head.
"It's fine," he says. "I wouldn't want you to drop anything."
"As if I would," Janus says, putting one hand to his chest in mock offense. It makes Virgil snicker. Janus smiles, a genuine expression of mirth that makes Virgil's heart twinge.
"Shall we?" He asks, motioning toward the tree with a jerk of his head.
"Ah, good," Logan says, adjusting his glasses with one hand. "I was wondering when you would appear, Janus. The twins are already hopelessly tangled in Christmas lights."
"Who put the ones on the tree?" Janus asks, looking amused. Logan smiles, a trifle smug.
"Me," he says. "Would you like to help with the tinsel?"
"Me?" Janus asks, clearly surprised. Logan nods.
"Is there some reason you shouldn't?" He asks.
"No," Virgil speaks on Janus's behalf, carefully setting down Remus's box of ornaments. "I'm gonna go see if Patton needs help," he adds and hurries away as Logan encourages Janus to set down his ornaments and pick up the first strand of tinsel.
"You're doing well," Patton murmurs, as Virgil stumbles into the kitchen. Red colors his cheeks like a candy cane.
"I guess," Virgil says, leaning against the counter top. "You uh, you need any help?"
"I think I've got it for now," Patton says. "But if you'd like to decorate cookies in a bit..."
"Sounds good to me, pop star," Virgil says, relieved. Patton rummages in a box on the table for a second, holding out an ornament.
"Remember this one?" Patton asks softly. Virgil's fingertips brush the smooth edges and he's helplessly drawn in.
"Caution?"
"Go away!"
"No," Heart insists, tiptoeing in the room and looking around. The spider curtains make him wrap his arms around himself and shiver. "You're upset. I can feel it. What's wrong?"
"Christmas," Caution mumbles. He's curled up on his bed, arms around his knees. "Christmas is what's wrong."
"What?!" Heart squawks. "What do you mean, Caution?"
"Thomas has so much stuff to do," Caution says. "How can he do all of them? It's just- I just-" His breathing speeds up. Alarmed, Heart crawls onto the bed, coming to a stop right beside him.
"Breathe," Heart directs, exaggerating his own breath into a gusty whoosh of air and making Caution's lips struggle not to form a smile. "Like this, 'kay? Follow how I sound."
It takes a few minutes for Caution to match his breathing, but he does. Both cheeks flush red as Heart smiles at him.
"Better?" Heart asks gently. Caution nods, playing with one of his sleeves.
"Will Thomas be okay?" Caution asks in a tiny voice. Heart doesn't even have to think about it for his next words to spill out, ringing with the sincerity of truth.
"Absolutely he will!"
Caution smiles, his hair flopping into his eyes. Heart reaches over and brushes it back, giving Caution an encouraging look.
"Wanna help me bake?" Heart asks. "I think I can make a pretty mean cookie!"
"Sure," Caution says, and laughs. "Why not?"
Virgil comes out of the memory slowly, his face flushed.
"I forgot about that," he mumbles, carefully setting aside the cookie-shaped bauble. Patton smiles gently.
"I never did," he admits, just as they hear a crash from the living room.
Virgil runs to the rescue, Patton hot on his heels. His mouth falls open at the scene of wanton destruction. The tree is still up (which is a miracle) and as far as he can tell, no ornament has been broken. But the tinsel lies in haphazard clumps all over the floor, and the same can be said for several strings of Christmas lights. A ladder sprawls on the ground, still holding a loudly protesting Roman.
"You didn't hold it steady!"
"Sure I did," Remus argues. His brows are scrunched tight in worry. "You overbalanced!"
"Well, it isn't like I did that on purpose," Roman says. Remus huffs.
"I never said it was on purpose!" Remus points out. Roman's face acquires a particularly rosy hue.
"Oh," he says weakly. Virgil snorts with barely suppressed laughter at the twins' banter, and all eyes turn to him and Patton.
"Roman fell off the ladder," Janus explains.
"Ouch," Roman tacks on. Virgil snorts.
"That would be an ouch," he says. "You better be okay, Princey."
"I will be," Roman promises. His expression turns irascible. "At least, I will when this bloody ladder is off me-"
"Oh, right," Remus says, his own face reddening. He reaches down and snags the ladder, carefully setting it upright. "There you go, bro."
"Thank you," Roman huffs. Logan gives him a hand and he cautiously makes it to his feet, breaking out in an enormous smile. "All is well on the Creativity train!"
"Please be careful," Patton implores, clasping his hands beneath his chin.
"I'm always careful, padre!" Roman exclaims, nearly slipping on a bushel of tinsel. Logan groans, snatching it up from the carpet.
"Ornament time," Patton says. "And then after that, I need help decorating some Christmas cookies!"
Virgil makes a beeline for his box, pulling out the ornament in the very back. Janus and Remus watch him as he delicately plucks it free, blowing away the dust.
"This one," he shyly requests. The memory plays, pulling them all in.
"Janus?"
Janus looks up from his idle place on the couch, a frown tugging at his face.
"Storm cloud? I thought you were in bed."
"I can't sleep," Virgil admits. He fidgets in the doorway to the living room, his eyes entranced by the Christmas tree (thankfully tentacle-free....for now).
"Come here," Janus coaxes, patting the couch next to him. Virgil shuffles over, his instincts screaming at him to go back to his room. Thankfully, he doesn't listen. He plops down on the sofa, and Janus tugs him closer, draping an arm around his shoulders. It should feel too tight and confining, but instead, it just feels...
Right.
"I can't sleep either!" Remus shouts from the hallway. Janus fondly rolls his eyes.
"Then come on out, Remus," Janus says. "I have two sides and six arms, you're more than welcome."
"Good," Remus says, but it's a subdued Creativity who finally slips out of the darkness and into the flickering colors of the Christmas lights. His eyes are red-rimmed. Virgil thinks he must have had a bad dream or something. He hardly ever cries otherwise.
"Bad dreams?" Janus asks, echoing Virgil's thoughts. Remus hesitates, then nods, as he crawls onto the couch on Janus's other side.
"Hark, hear the bells, sweet silver bells..." Janus sings lowly, elongating each phrase until the Christmas carol becomes nothing more than a lullaby, lulling both Virgil and Remus to sleep.
Virgil carefully hooks the ornament on the tree, front and center. He steps back, surrounded by old family and new, and nods to himself.
He's home.

Warning/s: angst?
~~~~~
Janus was a master of disguise. Everyone knew that. He could capture any side almost perfectly, from the clothes, features, actions, and even down to their voices.
As far as the sides were concerned only Deceit had this ability, and Logan preferred it stayed that way.
The logical side had discovered he had the same gift as Janus quite late along Thomas’ life; well... partly. Where Deceit could mimic practically everything about anyone, Logan found that he could only do their voices.
After months of practice, he realized he could speak as the others’ better, more flawlessly, than a certain scaled aspect ever could.
Even with this marvelous discovery, Logic never made this skill known to the others. Aside from the confusion this would entail between him and Janus, there simply just wasn’t any reason for the embodiment of logic to posses or even use such an ability.
For years, he remained silent about this; focusing his attention on far more important skill sets like scheduling, research, databasing, and timekeeping; skills that were actually crucial to his role as Thomas’ sense of logic.
Eventually, it became as if he never had the ability to do that in the first place.
~~~
He remembers the first time it happened like it was yesterday. He was simply pointing out to Princey that pure originality was nearly impossible, only to be cut off by a loud and long shush coming from the royal side and Thomas himself.
It didn’t hurt. He didn’t even mind. Besides, it was daydream mode and Roman did in fact have all the creative liberty.
Needless to say he was still surprised when later in the day he found himself repeating those exact same shush sounds in his room. He had practically forgotten how it felt to copy another’s voice.
As he tested his long lost ability once again, he was reminded of the intriguing intricacies of the delicate art of voice mimicry.
It was fascinating how something as simple as “shh” could be so different for each person. He could feel the slight difference of Thomas’ and Roman’s very similar sounding expressions in his own vocal cords. He noticed how the minimal shifts in the movements of his own larynx made a large difference in enunciation, tone, pitch, and volume.
As a little secret, Logan decided he was going to hone this skill once more.
~~~
“You’re the least popular character, get over it.”
Logan did try not to think much about Anxiety’s little comment, but once left to his own accords it was quite hard to believe that those words didn’t sting.
Yet, he couldn’t help himself from repeating that exact line to the empty room in the exact same manor the anxious side did.
Again, and again.
Maybe he did it to practice? Maybe as a reminder to himself? Maybe to keep him in his spot?
Every repeat was like a slap to his face, but gradually the pain got more tolerable, until he became numb to the sentence; willing the pinch he felt in his chest away.
At least now his mimicry had a purpose.
~~~
It didn’t stop there.
There were much more incidents that followed after that.
            “Shut your ever-flapping gobtalker.”                                     “Oh, hush sub-astute teacher.”  “Now is not a good time Logan.”                               “Shut up, Nerdy Wolverine.”
Every time he was thrown a phrase that stabbed at his chest he did the only thing he knew to wash away the pain.
He repeated it. Over and over, commanding his own vocal cords to produce sounds that weren’t his; he listened to every sentence with their voice until it couldn’t hurt him anymore.
And for the longest time, it stayed that way.
~~~
The viewers had been noticing that Logan had lost the energy he once had in earlier videos. He couldn’t blame them for pointing it out. It was true.
With how much he had to numb himself how could it not be?
On the bright side, he’d perfected the art because of it.
The very familiar voice of Thomas calling brought him back to the present.
“Logan? You looked really spaced out there for a second bud.”
“Apologies, I was merely recalling a research I was doing a while ago.”
It was a bit concerning how easily he could lie nowadays. Maybe Janus was rubbing off a bit more than he expected.
Speaking of him, Logan brought his attention back to Thomas and the others trying to recall a certain line the deceitful aspect had said in previous videos. Apparently this line they wanted to remember was crucial to the current predicament.
They mentioned something about a blindfold, and prizes, and,
Oh. Logan had a better memory than he thought.
Without any second thinking, and mostly because their bickering was getting on his nerves and he wanted to get this over with, he uttered the exact lines they were looking for.
“Life is like a piñata, and you want that stuff that makes you happy, right? Well, then in order to get that stuff you must attack the piñata, but you’re wearing a blindfold right now...”
Logan went on to recite Deceit’s point word for word.
Once finished he was met by everyone’s eyes locked on him with varying expressions on their faces; the most obvious being shock.
It wasn’t that Logic got Janus’ lines down without a single mistake, it was that he sounded exactly like him.
Not a few seconds later, his eyes widened in realization.
Before he could utter anything else, his ears received a rather loud question from Patton.
“Janus? Was that you the whole time?”
For a moment Logan wanted so badly to say yes, anything to get him out of there, but he lost his chance when the reptilian side appeared suddenly beside him, along with Remus popping up beside his twin as well.
“And I thought I was the only Lord of the Lies.”
     “Uhm, hey? Since when could you do this?”                 “How could you not impart this with us?”           “Do it again, teach!”                            “Logan, my logical side, how, what?”  ”Oohh, imagine what that throat could do...”                    “You owe us an explanation, nerd.”
Suddenly Logan was bombarded with a mess of questions, statements, and requests. Suddenly there were just too many voices all at once.
It became harder to identify which were coming from them, which from his mouth, and which from his mind.
See, Logan had his reasons why he never wanted to show them; why he fought so hard to hide it, keep it under control, suppress it.
But with every passing second filled with increasing volumes, varying tones, intonations, pitches, all directed at him, he began to lose his oh so heavily guarded contro-
“Can you stop?!”
The silence that followed after Logan clasped a hand on his mouth went on for what felt like ages; every side with their own unreadable expressions on their faces, but none showed as much hurt in their eyes as Patton.
He recognized those words and that voice right away.
They were his... and the cardigan-clad aspect knew very well who those words were for.
Logan did not dare move his hands from where they sat covering his cursed lips.
He could feel his mind bringing back every sentence, every phrase, every moment of being silenced. He could feel his vocal cords contracting and relaxing, morphing and threatening to repeat every statement like he has always done.
In the spur of the moment, they could all but watch as Deceit forced Logic’s hand away from his lips; terrified but eager to know what the trembling side had stuck in his voice box .
Even he wasn’t prepared for what they heard that day.
“Oh hush sub-astute teacher.” ”This is a benched trial for you.” ”Shut your mouth or I’ll tear off your nipples and shove them up your nose.” “Shut your ever-flapping gobtalker.” “You’re the least popular character, get over it.”
It was Logan they could see talking, but it was always one of them they heard; and every time they did it felt like a stab to their own tongues.
Every statement was captured perfectly, from the volume to the tone to the emotions, to their unique vocal qualities; as if they were brought back to the very day it was uttered.
Their amazement at Logan’s perfected skill was quickly replaced by anger, despair, guilt, regret, and a whole myriad of other emotions bubbling up their throats.
“Logan...”
No one had a chance at another word when the logical side sank down with a face none of them have ever seen on him, and one they’ll never forget.
A red-eyed, tear-stained face...
With his lips clasped shut.
Staring at the empty space where logic once stood, every other entity in that room had the same thought on their minds.
So this is what it feels like to be silenced.
Phantom Pains
TW: Blood/severe injury/loss of limb/mentions of suicide
Sparring was a very common pastime at Evernight Castle. If they weren't out on an errand or mission given by Salem, then her followers may as well be keeping sharp in their skills.
Watts preferred to work in his lab, designing weapons and other useful tools.
Emerald and Mercury, being the youngest and seen only as Cinder's underlings usually only had one another to spar with.
Althea, having only recently risen in the ranks, still trained with Tyrian, her former master and now partner.
Hazel, with his size and strength, typically wouldn't fight against any of his "teammates".
And then there were the Grimm. Salem kept various breeds of them penned up for the sole purpose of training, but only Hazel and Cinder ever liked to use them for practice.
However, ever since Salem had promoted Althea to her inner circle, the archer had felt the need to prove she was worthy of keeping the position. She had killed plenty of Grimm in her life, she'd gone to Beacon Academy for the God's Sakes. Killing the Grimm in her village had given her a spot in the damn school to begin with, to give her a chance to become a real huntress.
Although, ever since she'd fled the school and had been living on her own, isolated and answering to no one, she hadn't had as many opportunities to fight Grimm. She'd had to save her energy, because she never knew when she would eat next, so she just did her best to avoid the damn things completely.
But now that she had a purpose in her life again, it was time to get her head back in the game.
Tyrian kept her on her toes plenty when he was still her superior. Surprise attacks right and left, whether he leapt down from the rafters onto her or hid under her bed at night, the man had had her looking over her shoulder constantly.
Hazel was a behemoth that Althea had to beg to get him to spar with her and she was pretty sure he was holding back when he finally would give in.
Watts didn't really fight, at least not in a style that was compatible with Althea's, but when he needed to test out a new weapon she was happy to play guinea pig for him.
Cinder saw herself as "above" the rest of them, being a Maiden and she didn't like sharing her "disciples".
So Althea began using Grimm for practice. She realized how rusty she was against the creatures, but it was any skill; you never really forget it. She had forgotten just how good she was at it though. But damn it...she never knew when to quit.
Taking on two Beowolves was a little ballsy to do by yourself, but Althea wasn't exactly alone. Hazel and Tyrian had grown accustomed to watching her when she practiced killing Grimm, out of the way and behind the safety of the pillars that supported  a balcony.
Tyrian, because he enjoyed the show and he was a little proud of himself for finding such a treasure as Althea.
Hazel, because God's, there wasn't anything else to do around the castle at the moment. And plus he couldn't deny, the woman had skill and watching her certainly wasn't boring. He glanced down at his scroll and frowned; her aura was getting far too low, and one Beowolf was still alive and kicking.
"She needs to stop." He glanced at Tyrian who looked almost mesmerized by his former disciple. "Her aura is almost gone. One of us should step in and finish it."
Tyrian waved the larger man off, not taking his eyes off the archer as she easily dodged the Beowolf's large paw as it swiped at her. "If she can't handle it then she will ask us for our help. Don't insult her abilities, Hazel."
But Hazel grumbled softly and reached for the dust crystals in his pockets. "You shouldn't overestimate her abilities either just because you've got a crush."
Tyrian's eyes flashed purple for a moment and his tail twitched. He growled to himself as he watched Rainart stab a couple of crystals into his biceps. "You just hate seeing people enjoy themselves, don't you?" The faunus sighed.
"No, just when it's you. You're not denying the crush either, I see." Hazel remarked.
Tyrian locked the man with a seething glare that would have made the average person shrivel up inside, but Hazel just scoffed. "Good, cause no one would believe you if you did deny it."
He turned and stabbed his arms with the lightning dust, wincing only slightly as it spread through veins. "Althea! You're done, I'm gonna help you!"
"I've almost got this!" She yelled before firing an ice-dust tipped arrow into the Beowolf's back legs, freezing it in its place. With a running start she used the Beowolf's back as a springboard to leap high into the air above it.
Her plan was to deliver the killing blow from above - a dagger right through the Grimms eye as she had spent her last arrow immobilizing it. She had just grabbed the hilt, began to twist in the air, when the Beowolf had reared up on its frozen back legs and its jaw came down on Althea, taking her right leg in its teeth before falling back down on all fours, slamming her against the floor with the full force of its body. Her aura broke in an emerald swirl and she went rolling across the chamber floor.
Most of her that is.
The two huntsmen were frozen in shock for a moment, gold and hazel eyes locked on Althea's motionless and bloodied body.
Hazel was the first to snap out of it, the gnashing of the Beowolfs teeth as it swallowed the limb it had just torn asunder. It had broken the ice around its back legs loose and was completely free as the giant of a man began to charge it head on.
When Tyrian began moving towards his fallen partner he didn't even realize it. His legs felt numb and yet they were still carrying him over to her crumpled, discarded body.
The blood was everywhere, splattered and smeared on the chamber floor in morbid patterns that the faunus usually found pleasure in.
The next thing Tyrian realized, he was running down the halls of Evernight, the dead weight of Althea bleeding out in his arms didn't slow him down in the slightest.
It didn't completely register in the scorpions brain that he was running to Watts's office until he was bursting through his door. It was just purely instinct. Automatic. Where else would he possibly ever go?
The Doctor was at his desk, bent over some new contraption he was working on like always. His head snapped up at the intrusion, annoyance written on his face until he fully registered the scene standing in his door.
Tyrian covered in blood, cradling Althea's pale form, showing no signs of life. Where her right leg had been, was nothing but a bloody stub.
"Help." It was the only word that left Tyrian's trembling lips, raspy and desperate.
"Get her on the table. NOW!" Watts was on his feet, stripping off his jacket and tie as he helped Tyrian carry Althea into the small adjoining room that had been converted into a meager OR. However Arthur hadn't dealt with such a serious trauma in a long time and he'd certainly had more equipment, more help. His mind was racing as he tried to mentally inventory what he had, what he could use to save Althea's life.
"What the fuck happened?" Arthur pulled on a pair of surgical gloves with a loud snap, his emerald eyes surveying the damage.
"She...she was fighting Beowolves and…"
"More than one?!"
"Her aura was low and we thought she could handle it…"
Arthur sighed harshly as he gathered gauze and began to try and stop the bleeding of Althea's remaining leg. "You promised you'd never scare me like this again!"
Tyrian could do nothing but stand and watch, his whole body beginning to tremble as he watched. He couldn't hear Watts yelling at him over the ringing in his ears.
"Tyrian! Tyrain, God dammit I need an extra set of hands!" Watts felt guilty for a fleeting moment as he tossed the box of latex gloves at the faunus. They bounced off his bloody chest but it did the job in snapping him back to reality.
It was bloody awful work getting Althea's leg to finally stop bleeding. Once Watts was satisfied with her vitals and felt she was stable, he moved her into the tiny recovery room. Hooked up to various machines that would start screaming if her pressure bottomed out.
So he gently led Tyrain into the adjoining shower and turned the water on, waiting for it to warm up. They were both covered in Althea's blood and Watts was tempted to just throw his clothes away, burn them maybe. He had plenty of other clothes.
Watts automatically began to help Tyrain out of his stained jumpsuit and harness, and the faunus didn't resist in the least. His body was still gently trembling and Watts hoped that this incident wouldn't scar him too deeply. He didn't know what Salem might do if her best weapon was permanently damaged like this.
In the back of Arthur's mind, he was already planning the schematics of a replacement leg for Althea and oh Gods...someone was going to have to inform Salem about what happened. How would she plan to punish Althea for this? Because she surely would.
"One thing at a time…"
He unbraided Tyrian's hair, finding more sticky dried blood in it as well. Steam was beginning to spill out of the shower so he gently helped Tyrian under the water before Arthur got undressed himself and joined him, knowing that Tyrian was in no state to bathe himself.
For a good long moment the only sound was the hissing of the shower and Tyrian's occasional sniffle as he pulled himself back together and Watts scrubbed the blood out of his long hair.
"What did you mean earlier?" He finally asked, so softly that Arthur had to take a moment to be sure he had heard him correctly.
"About what?"
"When you said that she had promised to never scare you like this again, what the fuck did you mean?" Tyrian turned around to face Arthur.
The Doctor was quiet for a long while, staring into Tyrian's golden, begging eyes. There was never any easy or kind way of saying it.
"A few months ago, Althea tried to kill herself."
He watched his words take time to register completely on Tyrian's face. A choked off whimpering sound escaped his throat. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"She asked me not to. She didn't know what Salem might do to her if she found out. And now this…" Arthur sighed. "Gods why did she take on two Beowolves at once?"
" She tried to kill herself…" Tyrian murmurs gently and Arthur could tell that he was on the verge of losing it all over again.
So Arthur pulled him close against his chest and let him.
Everything was fuzzy. Her head, her vision, even her body felt fuzzy and disconnected. And her leg...God's her leg….
"Don't move too much." Arthur's voice. Althea felt his hand gently stroke her forehead and she tried to make her eyes focus on his face.
"What...hap'n…"
"You had an...accident." Arthur sighed "Although that word doesn't seem appropriate for what happened...because it wasn't an accident was it?"
"I...I had it…" Her throat felt raw, everything ached except...why couldn't she feel her right leg?
"YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING." Arthur hadn't yelled at her like that in a long time. Althea was ashamed to admit that she flinched a little.
"Arthur…" Tyrian's voice.
"You lost your leg, Althea!" She may have heard a quiver in his voice that time. She wasn't totally sure.
"Guess that explains why I can't feel it." Althea couldn't remember a lot about the incident. She'd been twisting in the air one moment and the next she was waking up here. She vaguely remembered Tyrian rushing her through the castle.
"You were careless, reckless and for what? You promised you would never do something like this again." Arthur's voice was a little steadier now as he sat on the edge of the hospital bed.
"I promised I wouldn't hurt myself again." Althea hissed as she hoisted herself up in the bed a little more, her vision clearing enough to see how upset her partners were.
"And so you've gone and replaced it with reckless endangerment of yourself!" Arthur looked like he hadn't been sleeping. How long had she been unconscious?
"It wasn't like that." Althea wiped the sleepy gunk from her eyes as she got her bearings.
Tyrian was curled in a small chair by her bed, wrapped in a comforter. He looked just as tired and drained as Arthur. God's, what had she done?
"I should have stepped in sooner." Tyrian sighed. "Hazel, the sentimental giant, warned me. We knew her aura was low and…"
"You just didn't know when to stop." Arthur sighs. "Or you were hoping to get hurt."
"I wasn't trying to get hurt! Damn it!" Althea looked down at the bandaged stubb that had been her right leg and she swallowed the lump building in her throat.
"Don't worry, I'm already designing you a new one." Arthur sighs.
"Don't. I don't deserve it."
"Well you bloody well can't work for Salem on one leg, can you? And if you can't can't for Salem she'll kill you." Arthur stood up. "Although that's probably exactly what you want."
Althea watched him leave and she rested back in the hospital bed, keeping her tears at bay.
"I'm sorry." She finally murmurs to Tyrain. "I really didn't mean to…"
"I should have stopped you." Tyrian crawled out of the easy chair and up alongside her in the bed. "When your body got slammed into the ground I…"
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry I…" yeah keeping the tears at bay wasn't working very well.
No, Salem had not been happy but she hadn't been nearly as angry as Watts had expected her to be.
Thankfully Hazel had been the one to tell her for the very first time, right after he'd finished off the Beowolf. Although, who the hell knew? She could act so calm and collected before the storm finally hit.
Watts had nearly had a heart attack one night when he'd gone in to bring Althea some dinner and Salem was right there, sitting at the foot of her bed and talking with her. It was an odd sight to say the least: a tall, ancient and immortal being just sitting there in the tiny recovery room. So out of place and somehow so horrifying.
Apparently Salem had wanted to see how Althea was doing with her own eyes and it hadn't looked like she'd gone had hurt the injured woman in any way.  Perhaps Salem would see the loss of leg as enough punishment and leave it at that.
Tyrian hadn't left Althea's side once, getting her what she needed and Althea had started reading to him a lot to pass the time. Thankfully Salem hadn't sent him away on any missions. Arthur wasn't sure if the faunus would have been able to concentrate if she had.
Recovery was not going to be easy. Arthur had drawn the perfect schematics for a new leg and he had been coming and going from Evernight to trade for some of the parts he would need.
Althea's phantom pains had started and were becoming almost unbearable. A mirror method had helped, but Arthur hoped that a new leg would do more good. Althea's balance on crutches was horrendous, and her ability to actually walk could be therapeutic in and of itself.
Finally when he was satisfied with his work on the prosthetic, he showed it to her. Shiney and silver with green accents along the joints and toes and a small "W" engraved on the upper thigh. Watts always left his signature on what he created in one way or another.
"The good doctor does such wonderful work doesn't he?" Tyrian mused as he looked the new limb over, his own shiney tail clicking behind him.
Arthur smirked softly, he certainly didn't mind having his ego stroked.
"I would have had this done sooner if you hadn't lost the leg above the joint." Watts sighs.
"I'll keep that in mind for next time." Althea chuckles dryly.
"There won't be a next time." Watts says firmly as he prepped the stubb of her leg. "Right?"
Althea smirked down at him and nodded gently.
"Don't you dare ever scare us like this again. I mean it."
Pirate AU (Part Five)
Lucie watched Alastair gently clean his sisters wounds before bandaging them up.
Knowing how much they cared for each other, she had expected Alastair to be angry. And though he was ready to quite literally murder Tatiana, he didn’t seem mad at her. Lucie couldn’t say the same for herself.
Cordelia had gotten hurt. She could’ve been killed if she wasn’t protecting Lucie. Dragging her out of her spiraling guilt, Thomas pressed a cup of tea into her hands, warming her cold fingers. He was also watching Alastair.
“You could not have done anything to prevent this Lucie.”
Lucie stilled. Thomas had arrived with Alastair who ended up sending a message to Eugenia. The three of them had helped Lucie clean up the glass and left Alastair to address Cordelia’s shoulder since he was the only one who knew any form of medical training. When Lucie had questioned him, he responded he knew how to do many things, like baking and tattooing. She had decided not to ask if he was being sarcastic.
Thomas and Eugenia seemed fueled with purpose. Upon telling them Tatiana Blackthorn, the same woman responsible for the public marriage scandal between James and her daughter a few years back, was the one who had killed Barbra, they seemed more focused on vengeance than anything.
Eugenia snapped her fingers loudly. “Oi! Lucie, Thomas get over here.”
Alastair and her cousin had spread out a map of London they had acquired from the library. Combining the information that had come from Alastair and Lucie, they had placed that Tatiana was indeed another pirate, and apparently belonged or led one of the scariest crews to exist. Which was really just delightful for them.
After locating the ship’s docking point, Alastair had gone earlier, confirming that the ship was there and, judging by the symbol carved into its wood, the correct ship.
“We need to get in somehow,” He said quietly while studying the maps.
Suddenly, Thomas looked up. “Christopher.”
“Who?” Alastair asked, staring as if Thomas had lost his mind.
“My cousin, he makes things, if we need to break into a ship he’s quite good at making destructive things.”
And that, seemingly, was all it took. As her friends packed their items, discussing quietly, she watched Cordelia, still asleep, breathe softly in the firelight.
“I don’t want to leave her,” Alastair said, startling her. “But I trust you’ll take good care of her.”
Lucie turned her face away. “For what happened… I’m sorry.”
Alastair looked up, surprised. "You needn’t apologize for that. My sister makes her own decisions, however ill-advised they may be sometimes. She won’t blame you and nor do I.”
Before Lucie could respond Eugenia rapped her knuckles on the door to grab their attention. She watched as they left, leaving her alone with an unconscious Cordelia. Mostly alone she thought, looking at her very tall friend who was staring at the fire. She sat next to him, crossing her legs on the couch and letting her head fall against his shoulder.
“Pirates,” He whispered, shaking his head lightly.
“Indeed,” Lucie responded before adding “Thomas, darling, have you seen what they wear?”
Thomas laughed and bade her goodbye, following Alastair and Eugenia.
~~~
Eugenia thought she had met her fair share of quiet people, but being in a carriage with Alastair was like being in a carriage with a well dressed mannequin. Thomas had mentioned needing to drop by one of his other friend’s houses and promptly abandoned Eugenia.
“You found my brother.” She said, cutting into the silence.
“I did,” Alastair replied, still staring out the window.
How was it even possible for a person to talk this little? Eugenia made a frustrated noise and waved her hand in front of his face, smiling at his scowl.
“I’m trying to thank you,”
“I found your brother entirely by accident. I don’t think that’s praise-worthy.”
“Well you saved him by the sounds of it.”
“He told you?” Alastair sounded surprised. “Well I suppose I did it out of instinct. And a bit of thought went into how you would feel.”
Eugenia smirked, pretending to swoon. “He cares!”
Alastair swatted her arm before reaching into his coat. When his hand withdrew, there was a silver longsword in his grasp, the hilt littered with rubies. She sucked in a breath and reached her hand out to touch the engraved handle. She felt a jolt of surprise when Alastair gave it to her.
“All our weapons are gold anyway. It wouldn’t match. Try not to get yourself killed.” He went back to staring out the window, but Eugenia found she didn’t mind.
~~~
Thomas ducked into Christopher’s lab, cursing London’s tiny doors to find his sister and Alastair already seated there.
Christopher’s head was bent over his notebook, his hair nearly catching flame on an open fire before Alastair threw a damp towel at his head.
“Thomas!” Christopher greeted, his face lighting up.
“We need your help,” Alastair said. He seemed to hate any form of pleasantries.
“With?”
“We need to get into a… very thick wooden box,” Eugenia cut in.
Christopher’s face clouded, and Thomas could practically see his mind working. Christopher was the smartest scientist in London and that Thomas could say with entire surety. He didn’t like keeping things from him, they had been inseparable for so long but this was not his secret to tell.
He listened as Christopher told them what all he needed to create such a substance and Eugenia rose, offering readily to go to the market. Thomas thought he saw a flash of silver in her coat but she was gone before he could ask. His cousin’s face was in a deep revere of thought it seemed so Thomas left the room, Alastair close behind.
~~~
Eugenia wished the cobblestones on the ground of this godforsaken market would swallow her up whole. She quite liked the boisterous activity and the loud arguing. What she did not feel so fond of was crouching in the alleyway like a lowlife trying to avoid her own family. Matthew Fairchild and Anna Lightwood were known to frequent illegal places and as much as Eugenia loved them, she wished she could snap her fingers and make them disappear. If they found her here they would certainly tell the rest of their friends, and Eugenia couldn’t risk putting Lucie and Thomas under scrutiny now.
“Hello?”
Eugenia cursed vehemently before turning around to face whatever person called out to her.
And oh, Eugenia was going to positively faint. Someone would have to drag her out of the market and send her body home. There was a woman standing in the alleyway, a hat shaded half of her face but Eugenia knew it was just as lovely as the rest of her. The mystery woman brushed long black hair out of her dark brown eyes to study Eugenia.
“Are you all right?” The woman asked with her perfectly shaped lips moving to help her up.
No. “Yes! Of course.”
She looked amused. “Is there a reason you're crouched in a dirty alleyway then?”
“A perfectly normal, justifiable reason yes.” When the woman waited for her to elaborate she added “I can’t let my family see me here.”
“Ah,” She responded before sticking out her hand. “I’m Kamala.”
“Eugenia.”
“I came in through a back exit, I can take you through there.” Kamala hesitated then, and Eugenia realized that their hands were still interlocked. “If you would like that.”
Well she couldn’t have said no to that.
~~~
Alastair, it seemed, liked to perch on dangerous places such as the third floor balcony. Thomas was caught between the urge to join him to see the appeal or pull him off so he wouldn’t get hurt.
Thomas watched as he tipped his head back, his perfect dark hair rustling softly in the wind. Moving closer hesitantly, he placed his forearms on the railing, seeing Alastair’s eyes open from the corner of his vision.
“Are you okay?” The words slipped out on their own accord.
Thomas turned, facing the shorter boy fully. Alastair’s entire being seemed stressed and worried and while Thomas understood why, an irrational part of him wanted to see if he could fix that.
“We might die.”
“Not a pleasant thought.”
“I don’t care much what happens to me, but Cordelia and my mother can’t survive on their own.”
“Why? Cordelia seems capable enough.”
Alastair shook his head, turning his eyes away as if he’d said too much.
“Where have you sailed?” Thomas questioned, leaning back onto piller, sensing the signal for a subject change. He also couldn’t quite wrap his head around the “pirate” thing.
“Many places. All of them were better than this repulsive town.
That startled a laugh out of Thomas. “I can understand that. I wish I could leave this city too sometimes.”
Alastair leaned closer and cocked his head to the side “Where would you go?”
Thomas flushed and leaned back. “Anywhere I suppose.”
Alastair looked as he was going to respond but the door banged open. Thomas jerked away, just realizing how close the two of them had been to look at Christopher.
“Eugenia’s back.” He called, his eyebrows furrowed as he looked back and forth between them.
Cordelia felt as if someone had an iron arm clamped to her shoulder and was shaking her brain vigorously. She opened her eyes and groaned at the stabbing light.
“Cordelia?”
Lucie, she tried to say but found that she could not. She felt an actual hand wrap around hers and soft fingers brush hair from her forehead.
“It’s okay, don’t say anything.”
Slowly, Lucie’s outline cleared and she could see her lovely blue eyes hovering a few inches from her face. Suddenly it was hard to breathe for entirely different reasons.
Lucie gently laid her hands on Cordelia’s arms, careful not to disturb her wounds. Cordelia found herself suddenly overwhelmed with how close her fire-lit skin was, the hesitant brush of an escaped curl against her neck. She never wanted to pull away.
“I know you just got hurt on your shoulders,” she started hoarsely, “but I thought…”
Cordelia, finally able to find her voice said “Never blame yourself Lucie. If it were to protect you I would do it a thousand times over.”
She heard Lucie’s breathing stop before she pulled away slightly, much to Cordelia’s disappointment.
“They found the ship. We’ll find her too.” Lucie’s eyes blazed bright. “I want you to teach me, show me how you wield your weapons, set your ships on water. She took far too much already and I refuse to let her take more.”
Long before the Winters come into play, a monster stalks the Forbidden Forest that surrounds the Village. Karl Heisenberg is sent to investigate, and heads deeper into darkness to find his prey, a thorn on his side and someone just like him.
chapter 1 - grisly reunions
SFW, canon-typical violence, blood, mention of death. 2K words.
link to ao3 (or read down below)
Nothing ever happened in this boring old village. Every day he would wake up to the same dull sky, the biting cold on his skin, the smell of blood in the air. And the chanting, for fuck’s sake, the goddamn chanting. In the silence of night, you could hear them if you listened close enough. Even cooped up in his factory, trying to focus on bringing his latest creation to life, through the humming of engines and rattling of pistons, he could hear their voices pleading forgiveness and salvation.
It paints a perfect picture in his mind: a bunch of old farts holding hands in a circle, standing over a creepy-ass painted crest of an unborn baby, pouring their heart and soul into their prayer, accepting death and giving glory to their murderer. The prayer itself never made sense to him, not really, but he had to admit it was a damn good way of justifying their atrocities. Nobody batted an eyelash when someone was taken away, went poof overnight to never return. Something about the sacrifice having been made, fate had led them to the light at the end or some shit. It used to fascinate him back in the day, when he was just a child watching everything unfold hidden behind his mother’s skirt. But he was no longer a child, and after almost a century of bullshit, it was hard not to impale every single fucker who talked about devotion and destiny.
Not that anyone would care about it, of course - sister dearest routinely kidnapped girls from the village and no one seemed to notice the Castle was a death trap. Boxes and boxes of wine would make their way into the village and out into the world, the truth right there in the label, and no one seemed to put two and two together. Dimitrescu had offered him more than a few bottles as a courtesy, an attempt to bridge the gap between them - even he had limits, however, lines that he would not cross. The very thought of bringing a goblet of blood-infused wine to his lips made his stomach turn; he had never been one to experiment much with food. He drew the line on frozen pizza and energy drinks.
It’s a wonder the village still had people in it, really; between Alcina’s obsession with maidens, the poor sods taken to Moreau for Cadou experiments and the failed vessels Miranda would discard like common garbage, he figured at this point there were more lycans than people around. More for him to experiment on, he figured, though digging up corpses in the dead of night had done a number on his back. Haulers could only do so much, and more often than not he would have to get his hands dirty. Not having a proper bed, sleeping on a bare metal cot and decades of living on borrowed time had nothing to do with it, of course.
The Castle drawbridge lowered as he approached, hammer thrown over his shoulder, one last peaceful drag of his cigar before he was thrown into yet another boring council meeting. The vineyard greeted him with the bleak vibrancy of a cemetery, scarecrows drained of color, barely recognizable but eerily preserved in chunks of ice. A waste of perfectly good specimens, really.
The halls were quiet for a change, no tormented screams and blood-curling wails, no giggling sisters running around in the hallways. It all smelled of death and old people, expensive perfume and a good dose of arrogance.
He flashed a charming smile at one of the Castle’s servants, laughing when the girl turned a bright shade of red and scrambled away from him. Heisenberg could hear the bickering as he pushed the doors open, Angie’s joints clicking incessantly as the doll moved about. Moreau’s breathing sounded as loud and disgusting as ever, yellow teeth and the smell of a polluted riverbed with a hint of fish. There they were, his beloved little family, waiting patiently for him, staring at him like he had fucked every single one of their mothers.
“You are late, Heisenberg.” Alcina began, as she always did, eyebrow raised in contempt. “As always. Mother,” she turned to Miranda, gesturing towards him with her hoity-toity, stupid cigarette.
“You are obnoxious, Dimitrescu.” He replied without sparing her a glance. “As always.”
He could practically hear her seething as she finally placed her humongous backside on her chair, having given up on chastising him when Miranda paid both of them no mind. Mother sat at the end of the golden-trimmed table, looking awkward in her great black gown and modly crow wings. Dimitrescu’s finest china was laid perfectly for their little afternoon tea party, cup handles that were too big to fit his fingers, minuscule spoons that were fit for Angie’s creepy hands. The servant that had scurried away at the sight of him had come back with a tray of hot tea, biscuits and blood - the house’s specialty. Miranda began speaking as the girl poured her drink, some small chitchat about the state of the village, the influx of foreigners and progress on her grand resuscitation project.
“Thank you darling, but I brought my own.” He started as the girl circled around the table to serve him, pointing down towards his belt buckle to the whiskey flask he always carried around. She couldn’t help but look down, and then up at his sly smile, the blush returning to her cheeks in full force. Dimitrescu’s reaction was swift, a well placed slap with the back of her hand square on the girl’s cheek. He felt sorry for her for a moment, but it was good training - if she wanted to survive the Castle, she would have to learn that it was better to be blind and deaf, and that she had much more provocation coming her way than his harmless flirting.
Heisenberg tuned out of the conversation as he poured his whiskey, pinching the teaspoon between his index and middle fingers, swirling it slowly, scraping the sides of the porcelain. Alcina’s displeasure at his use of her china for such vile beverages made it all the better. He slurped it loudly to add insult to injury, savoring the drink for a second, sloshing it around his mouth before swallowing, a satisfied “ah” escaping him when the liquor burned down his throat. If Alcina didn’t already look like a corpse, he felt like she would have turned purple. When he unceremoniously shoved an entire biscuit in his mouth, crumbs falling all over the tablecloth, he thought she would vomit.
“The latest vessel, unfortunately, has been a failure.” Miranda announced with sadness in her voice, which prompted all of his other siblings to sigh collectively in sympathy. What a bunch of morons. “However, we have made some progress. It seems my theories were correct - younger subjects are far more receptive to the Cadou.” Kidnap babies, got it. There was no limit to how low Miranda would get to fuel her quest for a daughter that had been dead for longer than she was alive. “I regret to say there are no suitable infants at the moment,” she stopped to sip at her tea. “We can only hope the harvest fares better in the coming months.” Had she seen them as nothing but guinea pigs back then, too? No doubt in his mind she did. The only reason she kept them around is because she might not be able to kill all of the monsters she created - better to keep them close than risking losing it all.
“There is but one more matter I would like to discuss, Mother Miranda,” Dimitrescu began, a lilt in her voice, the telltale sign that whatever would come out of her mouth next would be positively foul. “My girls have brought me troubling news.” Troubling, he repeated to himself, but she had a smile on her face as she said it. Miranda gestured at her to continue, which she gladly did, excitement rising with every new word. “It would seem a monster prowls near our blessed haven. There is talk among the villagers of bodies being found drained of blood, organs harvested, but without a single cut left behind.” She stood up to pace the room, one of her favorite displays of grandiose that made her look like the world’s biggest buffoon. It suited her. “At first I believed this to be a mere rumor, a lycan attacking the livestock, a corpse refusing to rest. But then,” she clapped her hands, the doors to the room promptly opening to give way to Crazy, Dumb and Ugly, giggling in their flowing black dresses, dragging a corpse along like it was a treasure they had found in the forest. Angie tagged along with their excitement, pushing Moreau away to get a better look at the stinking body thrown onto the hardwood.
There was no mistaking the lycan, all teeth, claws and complexion of the finest of silver poisonings. It smelled just as bad dead than it did alive; bruises and injuries and gums that stuck out of its mouth. How, pray tell, was this thing still in one piece? Heisenberg rose to take a closer look, pushed its stringy hair away from its face to reveal glassy eyes poking weirdly out of their sockets. He tested its consistency with a slight kick, stabbed it with the butter spreader, shoved a gloved hand in the cut to pull it apart and open. It looked fresh enough, but nothing but a foul vapor oozed out of the body. Crystal dust lined its insides, shards poking out of muscles. He pushes his arm deeper, feels around the chest cavity to find nothing.
“No cuts, no holes,” he begins as he pokes and prods. “No bites, either. Heart’s missing. This your handiwork, Alcina?” Heisenberg quips, suspicion seeping through his stoic facade. For a moment, he swears he can see the lycan’s flesh pulse, the smallest contraction of a muscle. This whole situation got weirder by the second.
“The technique is truly admirable, is it not?” She offers with a gleeful smile, picks up her cigarette and places a hand on her hip. Here we go again. “I simply must have it. Besides, we must know if it poses any threat to us.” She was right, this time. After decades of experimentation, none of them had ever managed to keep an infected subject whole after death.
His shoulders slumped as she spoke, head bowing to hide his discontentment behind the brim of his hat. He knew what this meant: being sent on a stupid adventure in the ass-end of the woods, because he was the only one out of this freak show with the brain and brawn to venture out into the world in broad daylight, without dying to the cold or stopping every five seconds to infect and pet wild animals. Some of these missions he did enjoy, like being sent to nearby towns for special supplies - or special victims. He was never gone long, nor would he stray far, but those escapades never failed to serve as a reminder that he had a reason to keep going, that maybe one day he would be free and the world would be his to explore.
The four of them eyed Miranda quietly, waiting for the verdict that was certain to come. Moreau cut the silence by volunteering to investigate, the pathetic pitter-pat of his feet filling the room when Mother smiled at him.
“I would not risk you in such a way, my son,” she patted his head without a hint of affection. “Not when we are so close to answers. You must continue your research - Heisenberg will look into this… Whatever it is. You are dismissed.” Her tone was nonchalant, her confidence rock solid. This was merely an obstacle, not real danger. At least, that is what she wanted them all to see; if one looked close enough, they would notice the slight furrow in her brow through the slits of the golden mask.
“As you wish, mother.” He tipped his hat before taking his leave, chewing on his unlit cigar, feet pressing hard against the gravel underneath.
Heisenberg never thought he would come to regret having a proper spine and a functional pair of legs.
Cafe 7 Dream: Chenle
Tumblr media
Word count: 2,438
Warnings: violence, stabbing
Read the prologue before reading this!
You were heading out to the cafe after class. Renjun and Haechan were far up ahead of you, chasing behind Jisung to tease him. Mark, Jaemin, and Jeno laughed at the poor boy’s torment and ran along to catch up. You and Chenle were left alone. The two of you didn’t really hang out alone together. The only times when you were this close to Chenle was when you hung out Jisung. Even then, you were never alone with Chenle for more than a minute.
“You know, uh, we never really spend time together,” Chenle said with a nervous laugh.
“Well, you are my boss,” you joked.
Chenle felt hurt at your reply. He wanted you to think of him as a friend, not as the guy who ordered you around and didn’t even pay you.
“You can work with me today,” Chenle offered.
“I was actually hoping to assemble some cakes with Mark today, but that sounds great too,” you replied.
You had no idea how much your words stung Chenle. He had a major crush on you for months. Hearing that he wasn’t even in the friendzone made him upset. Chenle was determined to make you like him, even a little bit.
At the cafe, you stood behind Chenle as he worked. You watched him lift boxes and give order to the other boys. You didn’t want to admit it, but Chenle was quite attractive when he was in a position of power. His confidence made you swoon. In reality, Chenle was quite anxious about his crush staring at him. The two of you talked a little, but you were both nervous about impressing each other.
After the last customer walked about, Chenle decided to make a move on you.
“Hey, y/n, do you want to come over to my place tonight?” Chenle knew the question was completely random, but he didn’t know if he would ever get another opportunity to ask you out.
You were quite shocked at his question, wondering if he could read your mind. You had just been thinking about how you wanted to spend more time with him.
Chenle assumed your silence was a no and said, “That’s fine. I’ll see you again tomorrow, y/n.” His face dropped in disappointment.
“No!” you said, grabbing his shoulder. You quickly let go after you realized what you had done. “I mean, I’d love to spend more time with you. Tonight sounds nice.”
“Great!” Chenle held on to your hand softly and led you out the cafe doors. Before he stepped out, he turned around and said, “guys, you can close up without me.”
Chenle’s house was huge, to say the least. Everything looked like it was out of a storybook. There was beautiful mahogany furniture that lined the hallways, which seemed like they went on forever. The high ceilings and walls were embellished with gold fixtures. You were sure that you were in a palace.
Chenle noticed the wonder on your face as you walked through the house and smiled to himself. He was overjoyed to make you impressed.
“Pretty nice, right?” he asked.
“This place is more than nice,” you said with wide eyes. “It’s insane!”
Chenle laughed at your reply. He didn’t care much for the way the house looked. Chenle was never interested in such superficial things, but seeing you this happy made him feel so lucky.
“Come on, let’s go to my room,” he said, pulling you up the stairs.
Chenle’s room was much more modestly decorated compared to the rest of the house. Despite all the luxury of his home, Chenle had mastered the art of the broke, messy college student look. You sat on his bed and looked around the room. Chenle grabbed a bottle from under his desk and handed it to you.
“You should try this, it’s really good.” You accepted the bottle and started to drink it. “I’ll go get some snacks for us,” Chenle said, walking out his room.
The drink Chenle gave you tasted like orange soda, but was a bit more bitter. You weren’t sure if it was your lack of sleep or the drink, but you began to feel sleepy. You were too tired to sit up, so you laid down on Chenle’s bed. You tried fighting your sleep, but it was just too strong.
In your dreams, you saw yourself as a child. You watched your first day of school, your graduations, and your birthday parties. These memories made you feel cheerful and warm. The memories of your past slowly started to fade away. You body felt cold and empty. Darkness surrounded you. You felt lost, until a light grew around you. You saw yourself again, but this time it wasn’t a memory. You watched yourself on the floor, covered in blood. You were crying for help, but nobody was there to save you. Your body jolted and you woke up.
“y/n is everything okay?” Chenle asked. He rushed to your side and began to stroke the side of your face.
“I was just dreaming and I saw something really weird,” you said, sitting up on the bed. “I kind of saw myself being attacked.”
“Ah shoot.” Chenle placed his hand on his forehead and shook his head. “I knew this would have never worked.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Come on y/n.” Chenle gestured with his hand for you to follow him.
Chenle took you into the library of his home. The room was huge and you were sure there were thousands of books in it. You had never seen anything like it before. Chenle pulled out a book from the shelf and handed it to you.
“Read the cover.”
“‘Spells of the Mind, a Complete Encyclopedia.’ What is this?” you asked.
“Magic books. The place is full of them. You can read all the titles and you’ll see.”
You listened to Chenle and checked out the other books on the shelves. You found ‘The Guidebook to Forest Spirits: Volume 1’, ‘The History of Warlocks’, and ‘Dried Grass Potions’. Every book you picked up had a strange name and you simply could not understand it all.
“What does this mean Chenle?” you asked, as you poked around the bookshelf.
“I’m not a normal person, y/n. My family has magical abilities,” Chenle started to explain.
“Yeah right,” you replied, rolling your eyes.
“Do you have a better explanation for all these books then?” Chenle snapped. You were silent and let him continue.
“Like I was saying, my family has magic abilities so do some of the guys. You see, Jisung’s actually a wizard. He made a love potion and put it in the cafe’s food. That’s why we get so many customers. And Jeno, he’s a water spirit. Then there’s Haechan. He hasn’t really gotten his powers yet, but they should come in any day now.”
“What about Jaemin? Is he some kind of coffee spirit?” you asked.
“Nah, Jaemin’s just a regular human. He’s just a little weird. Mark’s human too.”
You laughed and said, “Go figure. A group filled with magical beings and Jaemin’s the normal person.” Chenle laughed long with you. “What about Renjun?”
“Ah, Renjun,” Chenle became quiet. “Renjun’s kind of an oracle. He sees into the future and stuff. Most of his visions have never really happened, so his powers are kind of a joke. But he had one vision where you were attacked, so I got worried, and I gave you that thing to drink. It was a potion to protect you, but then you saw the vision yourself, and um, yeah,” Chenle rambled.
“His visions, they’re not accurate?” you said with a raised eyebrow.
“They’ve never really happened, so I think so. And what you saw,” Chenle paused for a second. “It was probably just a manifestation of my own fears, since I was the one who gave you the potion. It doesn’t really mean anything.”
“Okay, cool,” you said, brushing away the topic. “So tell me more about you Chenle! What are your powers like?”
“Well I’ve been trained in practically everything, but my specialty is a secret.” You pouted at his answer. “It’s because my parents are kind of big deals in the magic world, so we can’t be open about our abilities. It’s for our safety.”
“When can I meet your parents? I am in their house, after all.”
“At the cafe event. They’re launching a campaign about the implementation of magic in the real world, and the cafe is the first place on the list. They’ll be there and a whole bunch of magical beings in the business world will be there too.”
You and Chenle sat on the floor of the library and talked for hours. You were amazed by all the books, and pulled out each from the shelves to have Chenle explain it to you. By the end of the night, you were engulfed by the world of magic. You wanted to learn more, so you asked Chenle if it was okay to stay over. He was delighted and showed you to a room near his own.
The next day at the cafe, you wanted to see the magic in action. You sneaked behind Jisung as he went into the back room. The room looked like the lab of a mad scientist. There were shelves filled with potions on all the walls. Your cover was blown when Jisung turned around.
“Ah y/n! What are you, um, doing, uh, here?” Jisung stuttered. He took a step closer to you, trying to make you leave the room.
“Chill out, Jisung. Chenle told me all about your little love potion,” you said with a smirk. “I know you guys have magic.”
Jisung blushed at your words and replied, “Well since you’re here, want to see what I’ve been up to?”
You nodded and Jisung started to explain all the potions he had made. Most of them were just variations of the love potion, which was his specialty. You grabbed a bottle to examine.
“Be careful y/n! That one’s still a little messed up. Chenle drank it before and he confessed that he like y-” Jisung stopped speaking when he realized what he had done.
“He likes me?” you said with wide eyes.
“He, uh, just pretend like you didn’t hear anything, okay?” Jisung said before shooing you out the room. “Chenle’s going to kill me for this,” he muttered to himself.
After the cafe had closed, Chenle invited you to his house again. The two of you were sitting in the library when Chenle opened up to you.
“y/n, I think you’re so perfect and beautiful and amazing and, uh, can I be your boyfriend?” Chenle blabbered.
You laughed at his confession, thinking back to what Jisung had told you earlier.
Chenle looked down and said, “I get it. I’m sorry I-”
“Don’t apologize,” you said, grabbing his hand. “I like you too! I was just laughing because Jisung spilled your secret earlier today.”
“Ugh, I’m going to get him for this!”
You and Chenle laughed and cuddled in the library. Chenle offered for you to spend the night again, and you happily accepted. Every day after work, Chenle offered to take you to his home, and you always said yes. You practically lived at his house.
One night, while you were sleeping, Chenle was discussing the cafe event with his mother.
“It’ll be shameful if Haechan doesn’t have his powers. People from all over the world are going to coming to the cafe. What are they going to think when they see a boy with unawakened powers? We have to maintain our reputation.”
“But mom-”
“No buts. If the only way to bring out the magic in him is through a ritual, then so be it. You’ve got a sleeping human upstairs, ready to be sacrificed. I expect you to do what’s right for this family.”
Chenle couldn’t bring himself to hurt you. His family’s success was nothing compared to your life. You were his number one priority, or at least that’s what he tried to convince himself.
It was the day of the cafe event and Chenle still hadn’t followed his mother orders. Chenle knew there would be dire consequences if he didn’t do as he was told.
“Hey y/n, Haechan, can you help me in the back?” Chenle said. His voiced quivered slightly as he thought about what he was going to do.
When you were all in the back room, Chenle told you to count how many potions were on the walls. With your back wide open, Chenle whispered “I’m sorry,” and slashed you.
You woke up in a hospital bed. Chenle was sitting next to you.
“Chenle, baby, what happened?” you said innocently.
“y/n! I was threated by my mother to use your blood for a sacrifice and give it to Haechan so it would awaken his powers and I really didn’t want to do it I swear, but my mother forced me so I had no choice and y/n I know this makes me a horrible person, I just didn’t know what to do so-” Chenle rambled before breaking down into tears.
“The vision. Renjun’s vision was true. The reason I had the vision when you gave me the protection potion was because you were the one I needed protection from,” you said in a monotone voice.
“I’m so sorry, just please, please, just forgive me, I really didn’t want for it to turn out this way, please,” Chenle pleaded.
“You know so much about magic. You knew what my vision meant, didn’t you? You lied to me.”
“I truly didn’t mean, oh just please, I didn’t want to do it, it was all a mistake, I just wanted to help you, I didn’t know it would be like this,” Chenle continued.
As betrayed as you felt, you knew Chenle was genuine. You loved him with your whole heart and you knew he felt the same way about you. You couldn’t let him torture himself over something he had no choice over.
“I’ll forgive you one day, but not today.”
"Hey, (y/n), do you need anything from the cafe?" Lia walked over with Ben, one of the male staff members. "We're taking a mass order since it's probably going to be a long night."
I diverted my eyes away from the computer screen and puckered my lips, "Mmm. Just an Americano." I said and Ben quickly added my order to the list on his phone.
"You got it." Ben said before he zoomed out of the studio.
"Are you sure you want to stay here?" Lia asked for the second time that night, "You really don't have to."
I shook my head, "It's fine. I want to stay." My words were true. I was always curious about the making of choreographies and that side of the dance world so whenever Lia stayed late, I usually did too, just watching from the sidelines. I dabbled in the dancing side but not the making side. That I could never figure out how to do.
She nodded her head and walked back into the studio where they were setting up, awaiting the arrival of our guests for the night.
Turning back to the computer, I resumed my task of adding new sign ups to their preferred classes. A few minutes later, four boisterous men walked in behind a calm, exhausted older male. They stop at my front desk; the male leading greeting me with a small smile while the other four have wide smiles painted on their face.
"Hi, which studio?" The lead male asked.
"Studio 6." I told him and pointed to the room where Lia had disappeared not too long ago.
"Thank you." He nodded and walked away.
The other four behind him smiled and thanked me but the shortest one kept his eyes on me a few seconds longer than the rest. With a small smirk, I gave him a small nod and he quickly turned around before I could catch the blush fully take over his cheeks.
I lowered my gaze and a rush of 'what did I just do' washed over me. I knew who they were before they even showed up. This filming had been in the schedule for WEEKS. It was Seventeen's Performance Unit filming a dance thing here. Yeah, I knew who they were, and I knew Dino was the one looking at me. So what possessed me to be so bold like that? Well, probably the small ounce of 'fuck it' that comes and goes with the wind. And boy, did it leave after they walked into the studio. Luckily, embarrassment was quick to fill it's spot.
I ruffled my hair to try and ignore the impending tsunami of anxious thoughts before attempting to refocus on my screen.
I had just finished compiling the list of participants for the classes in two days when I noticed someone approaching.
"Hello." I looked up at greeted Dino with a welcoming smile.
"Hey," He said, a bit nervous, then cleared his throat. "Where's the bathroom here?"
I pointed to the hallway behind me, "Down there. It'll be the 3rd door on your left."
Dino smiled in thanks, "Alright, cool. Thanks." He said before shuffling down the hallway.
My head followed him slightly as he walked away and a small laugh bubbled in my chest. There was no denying that he was cute.
"Hey, hey." Minghao rushed up to my desk, "Have you seen Dino?"
With wide eyes, I pointed behind me at the bathrooms. "Bathroom."
Minghao tapped the ledge once before quickly walking off to the bathrooms. Not 1 minute later, he walked back out with Dino in tow.
"I told you, you should've gone before we got here." Minghao scolded the youngest.
"Blah, blah, blah." Dino playfully imitated Minghao.
I covered my mouth with my fist before lowering my head to cover up the laugh I could barely hold back. As I regained control of my composure, Ben struggled through the doors with one too many drink carriers balanced in his arms. I shot around the desk and grabbed a couple carriers full of Americanos so a disaster didn't occur.
"Remind me never to go get drinks alone." Ben joked when he's made it inside.
"I really don't know why you tried it in the first place." I told him as we walked towards the studio to deliver the drinks.
As we passed my desk, I pulled one of the Americanos out and placed it on my desk so I wouldn't forget it later.
"I really thought I could do it." Ben explains, "14 drinks doesn't seem like a lot... But then you think about it." He finishes, his whole body emphasizing the panic he felt when he 'thought' about it.
I giggled, "I think we may need to set a limit for how many you're allowed to carry."
"I will carry as many as my heart desires." Ben puffed out his chest.
I tried to respond with a quip but the music started blasting, effectively drowning and ending our conversation. We waited at the doorway as the four male idols did a soft run through of their routine. I'd watched their practices online before but there was something different about watching them in person. Like something in the air changed. If I thought about it, it almost felt like the air was buzzing with electricity and the only thing I could do was stand there and let the goosebumps take over.
Even though it was only a soft run, Dino made sure to hit all the points with power and nothing about his soft run was soft. It was all done with precision except the motions weren't as big. My head tilted to the side in admiration and I was still staring when the song ended. So zoned out that Ben had to nudge me with his elbow.
I righted myself and began handing out the drinks. With all the drinks handed out, I retreat to my little cove in the front. The sight of my Americano sitting on my desk was a nice surprise considering I had indeed forgot that it was there. I sat in my chair, stabbed the straw into the lid, and casually sipped it while leaning back. I let myself relax for a few minutes before returning back to my unfinished tasks.
Click, click. Drag. Type. Drag. Click. The same boring tasks but the music seeping out of Studio 6 was my accompaniment so I was never really bored.
"MOVE!" Hoshi's screamed, slightly startling me, as he rushed out of the studio, making a beeline for the bathroom. "I HAVE TO PEE!"
I chuckled at him urgency and peered at my phone.
"Hey." Dino announced himself as he approached my desk.
"Hey." I said back, "How's it going in there?"
He shrugged, "Well... I think. We keep changing the choreography and then have to rerecord and it's a whole process."
I giggled, "I bet. The speakers seem to be working over time."
"They can handle it." Dino scoffed playfully, "So what are you doing here this late?" He asks.
"Well, I usually stay..." I trailed off as Hoshi's screams get closer.
"Alright! Let's do this!" Hoshi reached his hands up to the ceiling, "Come on, Dino!"
"Good luck." I said quietly to Dino as he hesitated to walk away but ended up following his leader.
I watched him until he fully disappeared into the studio and even then I stared at the empty door frame a little longer.
"Is there a ghost there?" Ben asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
He stood on the other side of the desk behind me. When I turned to look at him, he was leaning his forearms on the desk with a smug look on his face.
I rolled my eyes at him, "I was just zoning out." I explained.
"Zoning out on a guy you think is cute." Ben countered, his smugness growing.
"Like you haven't thought any of the idols that pass through here weren't cute." I scrunched my nose at him, teasingly.
"I have." Ben admitted, "But you haven't. Until now."
I scoffed out a laugh, "That's not true."
I could tell he wanted to banter more about the topic but a different staff member called for him and he had to answer the call.
After 20 minutes, they called for a break and immediately, Dino reappeared at my desk.
"I realized..." He took a few breaths, still winded from the dancing, "That earlier my question may have seemed... a little crude." I watched in amusement as he continued to catch his breath while simultaneously patting away the beads of sweat. "I was asking out of pure curiosity because when we go to other places, the front desk person usually isn't there."
I pulled out a couple tissues from the box near me and handed them over. He took the tissues with a smile and started ridding his face of the sweat.
"Well, for the record," I told him, "I thought it was pure curiosity. And I like staying late to watch and listen to these filming schedules. It's very interesting to me how it all works." I leaned closer and Dino instinctively does the same, "Plus, it gives me an excuse to come into work late tomorrow."
Dino nodded his head with his mouth slightly agape like I'd just told him the biggest life hack and he's impressed.
"Has anyone seen Dino?" Jun's voice yelled from inside Studio 6 and I laughed as Dino's eyes grew wide.
"Gotta go!" He whispered and dashed back into the studio with the tissues still in his hand.
I chuckled and shook my head. It was cute the way he kept trying to strike up a conversation with me only to be immediately called back in. It was also nice that someone wanted to talk to me that badly. It didn't happen very often. Most idols ignored me when they came to film. Only ever asking me where the bathroom is. The trivial questions.
Another 15 minutes and Dino ran out of the studio, screeching to a halt in front of my desk.
"Don't have much time." He exhaled, "What's your name?"
I was not expecting him to ask that so I paused for a split second before answering him. "Uh, (y/n)."
"(y/n). Pretty." Dino smiled up to his eyes and I only have a moment to put it to memory before he ran back.
I slumped back into my chair, not believing what had just occurred. He'd asked for my name and called it pretty. I pressed my lips together and tried to control the warmth rising to my cheeks.
"Are you, are you BLUSHING?" Ben exclaimed and stopped at my desk. He leaned over close to my face and I instinctively backed away, trying to play innocent.
"No." I covered my cheeks with my hands and pouted.
"BEN!" Lia screamed, "I swear to god if you're not back here in 5 seconds!!" She didn't have to finish the threat as her tone was enough of a threat.
Without another word, Ben rushed away and I bursted into laughter. I guess there was something in the air that day that made men decide to leave their positions and nearly get in trouble for it.
After 30 minutes of scrolling through the emails and listening to Lia bark out instructions over the blaring music, they finally recorded the perfect run through. I knew because the four Seventeen members all yelled in excitement and accomplishment. Also, the staff members in the room applauded their success.
My own smile of pride grew on my face as i listen to the relieved sighs and words of congrats echo through the place. Knowing that I'll be booted out as soon as everyone else is ready (which is freakishly fast), I quickly started to save and log off of the computer. The empty coffee cup went straight into the trash and I doubled checked the computer to make sure it's successfully turned off.
I was picking up my bag when the Seventeen members walked past with their manager. Hoshi and Jun snickered and pushed Dino towards the desk.
"Hey." I said with a smile, "From what I heard, you guys were successful."
Dino nodded, nervous under the watchful eyes of his hyungs. "Took a bit, but we got it."
"I can't wait to watch it when it gets released." I told him.
"Ask her." Minghao whispered to Dino but I could still hear him.
I glanced at the other three and scrunched my eyebrows in slightly confusion.
"Uh, uhm." Dino stuttered and cleared his throat, "If we exchanged numbers, I could send it to you before it's released?" He suggested.
"Is that even allowed?" I questioned, unsure if we'd be breaking any rules by me seeing the video before it's released.
"I can ask whoever I want for their number." Dino said confidently, misunderstanding my question, "It's my phone and my company can't decide who I talk to on my own time."
I pressed my lips together, trying real hard to hold back a laugh because damn, that was cute. His sudden defense to wanting my phone number was quite attractive. Behind Dino, Jun, Hoshi, and Minghao mirrored me but they were unable to keep their laughter in.
It caused Dino to pause and glance around. Then the realization hits him and I saw him mentally face palm himself so hard.
"I'm an idiot." He muttered and I reached into my desk for a notecard.
While Dino still reveled in his embarrassment, I grabbed a pen from the holder near him and quickly wrote down my name and number. Along with my social media user, just because.
"I would love it if you talked to me." I told Dino and handed the note over.
Dino took it in his hands and gave me a small smile of confidence. "I'll text you then."
"Car's here." Their manager called from the door.
"Well, see you around, (y/n)." Dino waved goodbye as they turned to the door.
"See you around Dino." I waved back and my heart fluttered in my chest.
Hoshi clapped Dino on the back and Minghao and Jun give him proud high fives.
"Our maknae!" I heard Hoshi exclaim before the door shuts firmly behind them.
I finished packing up my stuff and made my way around the desk. I waited a few minutes until Lia walked out behind all the other staff members leaving for the night.
"You're all set?" Lia asked, eyeing the bag over my shoulder.
"Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow?" I said.
"You don't have to back here until 1." Lia told me and I inwardly scream 'yes1'
But outwardly, I calmly said, "I'll see you then." And then I walked to the front door.
I stepped outside and made it a couple steps before my phone rang with a notification.
It was from an unknown number but the message instantly told me who it was from.
It read, "It's Dino. Hope you get home okay."
Congrats on the 100 followers! Could you do "my clothes look really good on you" for Lukanette Please?
Thank you for the ask, anon! I didn’t end up getting the exact dialogue in there, but your prompt did give me an excuse to use You Look Good in My Shirt by Keith Urban, which has been sitting in my fic playlist for forever now. Hope you like it!!
You Look Good in My Shirt
Read on Ao3
Luka had his eyes closed and his head leaned back against the airport seat as he tapped his foot to the music blaring in his headphones. His flight back to Paris from… well, wherever the most recent tour had ended, had been delayed rather indefinitely. He didn’t mind the wait, although the chair underneath him was plastic and hard and small. He shifted to relieve the side of his butt that was asleep.
As he sighed and leaned forward to take his headphones off—the music was good, but he’d been listening to it on a loop for the past hour or so—cool hands slipped over his eyes and a warm, familiar scent wafted around him. Like baked sugar. Marinette.
“Guess who,” she said with a giggle. As if he didn’t know that melody anywhere.
“Jagged, is that you?” He grinned at his own joke.
She imitated a buzzer and moved to his other ear. “Guess again.”
“Uhhh… Penny?”
“Nope.”
She leaned in and kissed his cheek underneath her hands. He pulled her hands off his eyes and found her resting her cheek against his shoulder fondly. Her dark hair was longer now—it fell across the back of the seat next to him. He could still see the pink tipped ends from when she’d dyed it. God, that was forever ago. Back when they had first started dating. But her eyes were still the same beautiful, clear blue.
“I’m disappointed, Luka, really.” She pretended to pout. “Those headphones must be ruining your hearing.”
“What are you doing here?” he countered as he rubbed his thumb across hers. “I thought you were in London.”
“This is London, silly.” She kissed his cheek again and slid around him to sit next to him. “I thought you were in America.”
He shook his head. “No, I’m not.”
“Well, good we cleared that up.” He’d forgotten how devilish her grin could be when she wanted it to be. “I heard your tour went well.”
“Yeah.” He cleared his throat and sat up a little straighter when her thigh pressed against his. “Yeah, it did.”
“Well, how long are you in London?”
“Just…” He gestured to the flight board. “Just until my flight leaves. For Paris.”
“Oh. Me, too. Going home to see the folks, you know how it is.”
As they watched, the board changed. The flight wasn’t leaving until tomorrow. They shared a sideways glance.
“Coffee?” she asked, pointing over to the pitiful 24/7 kiosk that was set up near the gate.
“Sure.”
He stood and gathered his bag and his guitar case before she grabbed his hand and tugged him across the room.
***
He pressed his hand to his lips to hold his coffee in as he laughed mid-drink to Marinette’s story. Thankfully it didn’t come out his nose, but he still set the cup down as a precaution.
“So I’ve got this model, standing stark naked in the middle of everything, her hair and makeup completely done—like a bird’s nest, what was I even thinking?—and I’m hand sewing this hem like a madwoman, cursing everything in the near vicinity, and who should walk up, but poor, defenseless Adrien.”
“Oh, I bet that went well,” he muttered, grinning down at his cup as he pictured Adrien, the pure ray of sunshine, at the back end of Marinette’s unbridled stage rage. He had a tendency of making jokes when she was stressed, trying to lighten her mood, no doubt, but it almost always backfired on him.
“He chucked a fistful of glitter at me!” She mimed the action and Luka almost lost it again. “Like, stuck his hand in this box full of glitter—Heaven knows why he even had it—pulled it back out, and puff! A cloud just settles all over me. And more importantly, all over the gown.”
“And then he ran like hell?”
“And then he ran like hell.” Marinette agreed, grinning. “I have to admit, as far as defusing my moods goes, the glitter bomb was an unexpected win for him.”
Luka shifted forward and wrapped his hands around his cup, still chuckling. “Glad to see nothing’s changed.”
She paused, and when he glanced up she was watching him curiously. “What about you?” she asked, and there was an intensity behind her voice that he couldn’t place. “Has anything… changed?”
Ah. So that was it. He swirled his coffee in his cup and tried to ignore his hammering heart. “No, nothing’s changed,” he admitted quietly.
There was another pause between them. Luka focused on the steam still dwindling from his cup as he thought back to the last time he’d seen her. With tears in those beautiful blue eyes as she turned to wave at him before she boarded the plane. Nothing had changed for them. Not since they’d decided to break up almost three years ago.
The official reason was they’d gone their separate ways to follow their separate dreams. His took him touring all over the world. Hers had her at the head of a major fashion house in London, traveling to various other fashion capitals and running shows with Adrien following like a lovesick puppy behind her the whole way. She’d called him jealous. He’d called her selfish. Those were words he could never take back.
When the smoke had cleared, they’d taken a long, even look at one another. And walked away.
He still loved her. Of course he did. He'd spent three years trying to get her out of his head unsuccessfully. And now she was in front of him and he was stuck in London for the night.
He glanced up at her again and she was contemplating her own coffee.
"Me, too," she murmured.
***
He didn't quite know how it happened. He'd walked her home, fully intending on finding himself a hotel for the night, and then his back was pushed up against her door and her lips were locked firmly on his as she pressed herself against him.
She broke away, panting. "Do you want to come in?"
As an answer, he leaned down to kiss her again and started stripping off his leather jacket.
***
He woke up the next morning alone in Marinette’s bed, although something from the direction of the kitchen smelled amazing. He tugged his jeans on and ventured out of her bedroom to find her at the stove, flipping an omelet expertly, wearing nothing but his shirt from last night. He drank in the image; the hemline fell just below the round curve of her ass and made her shapely legs look miles long. He’d missed this.
“Since when are you an early riser?” he asked before a yawn overtook him.
She started at his voice, then pouted. “I was hoping it’d be done by the time you got up.”
He dared to stand behind her and wrap his arms around her waist before he kissed her cheek fondly. “Mmm... I wake up faster when a home cooked meal is involved.”
“I thought you’d like some breakfast before our flight.” She giggled as he started to trail kisses down her neck and swatted him away playfully. “None of that, Rockstar. Hot things.” She gestured with her spatula to the stovetop and shooed him away. He laughed before he kissed her one more time behind her ear.
“Speaking of hot things…” he whispered in her ear. A shiver ran through her and he smiled against her skin. “My clothes always did look better on you.”
She turned her head to meet his lips over her shoulder. His hands wandered down her sides and tightened at her hips, pulling her backwards into him. She whined into his kiss before she turned fully around to wrap her arms around his neck. He leaned back against the counter and pulled her in between his legs, still kissing her fiercely. God, he’d missed her.
She broke away from him suddenly with a squeak and turned back to the stove to find her eggs curling at the sides of the pan as they overcooked. She tipped the omelet off onto a plate and shoved it at him, pouting.
“This one’s yours, since you’re responsible.”
“As if your overcooked eggs don’t still blow hotel food out of the water.” He smirked and took the plate and she handed him a fork. He stood behind her, eating quietly, as she worked on a second one for her.
“I’ve been thinking,” she started. He paused to look up at her. She was swirling the eggs around the pan thoughtfully, scrambling them for herself instead of making an omelet. “I mean, I know it’s been a while. But last night…”
“We don’t have to figure everything out, now, Mari,” he said gently.
“Well, it’s not like anything has really changed, has it? I’m still here and you’re still everywhere else.”
Even though she wasn’t facing him, he could practically hear her brow furrowing. He finished his eggs and set his plate down behind him before he crossed his arms. “It’s not impossible.”
“You say that like you’ve thought about it, too.”
He hummed and reached out to caress her hip again. “Maybe I have.”
She half-turned before she remembered herself and scraped her eggs out of the pan and turned the stove off.
“It’s been three years, Mari. I haven’t stopped thinking of you for one second.”
“I’m still working with Adrien.” She stabbed her fork into her eggs with a little more force than necessary and he winced at her bitter tone.
“I wasn’t jealous of him,” he said quietly.
“You could’ve fooled me.”
“Well, yes, I was, but not for the reason you might think.”
She paused and reached out to tap her bare foot against his. An old signal they’d used to tell each other they were listening, they were there for the other. He smiled at her acknowledgement and took her hands in his.
“I was jealous of how much time he had with you.” Her eyebrow quirked up in a silent question. He looked down at their joined hands as he continued. “Not that I thought he’d ever take advantage of that, or try anything. But I wanted to be here with you. You know that, right? I wanted to be the one backstage with you, standing by your side while you realized your dream. It hurt to think that someone else had that. Could be that.”
“You had a dream, too, Luka. I couldn’t have stood in the way of that. You would’ve hated me.”
“I could never hate you.”
“Still.” She tipped his chin back up to look in his eyes. “You deserve to have your dream, too.”
“It hasn’t been what I thought it was,” he admitted. “The music, that’s all I ever wanted. The touring, the fans, the hotels, the planes… it gets to be a little too much sometimes.”
“You sound like Adrien, now.” A smile was tugging at her lips. At the irony, he supposed. “That’s why he wanted to be behind the scenes. Out of the public eye, while he recovered from… well, you know.” She dropped her eyes and took a deep breath. “Turns out he’s really good at it. Besides throwing glitter and making awful puns… he’s really good at it.”
“I’m glad he’s been there for you.”
“Liar,” she said, her grin becoming devilish again. “You can’t tell me you’re suddenly okay with him being my right hand man.”
“I’ve had three years to think about it, Mari. Three years to wish I could take back everything I said.” He sighed. “Even if it wasn’t me, I’m glad you had someone there for you. And that’s the truth.”
She hummed and swung their hands between them before she turned to start eating her cooling plate of eggs. He waited, leaned back against her counter, arms crossed across his chest, for her to consider.
“So, if it’s not impossible,” she started in between bites. “What would this look like, do you think?”
“This?”
“Us. You and me. Trying again. You with your touring and me with my shows. You said you’ve thought about it. How do you think it would work?”
His breath left him and he ran his hand through his hair. This was the last thing he’d expected when he booked this flight. “Um, I book every possible tour in London.”
She nodded. “That’s a good start.”
“Video chats whenever I’m away. Every night if we can manage it.”
She tapped her fork against her lips as she hummed in thought. “What about my parents?”
“What about your parents?”
“Well, they’ll want to know, and I’m sure Juleka will, too, if not the Captain, why we should do this again after all the heartbreak from the first time around.”
A shard of glass spiked through his heart thinking of Marinette being heartbroken because of him. She was right, though, Juleka would tear him a new one when she found out he was dumb enough to put himself through this again. And the death glare he would no doubt get from Tom—scratch that, Sabine— was shudder-inducing. An idea struck him and he stepped forward to put his hands on her hips.
“You said you’re going to see them?”
“That’s the plan.”
“How about I come with you?” Her back stiffened before she turned to face him again. He shrugged. “Let’s face it head on, together.”
“If you’re coming to see my parents, there had better be a baby or a ring on my finger before they’ll even consider letting you off the hook.”
“Well, one of those is doable before we get on our flight.” He raised his eyebrows. She shoved his shoulder and blushed. He laughed and corrected himself. “The ring. We can get you a ring.”
Her blush hadn’t faded, but she rolled her eyes and she was giving him that smile that meant she was trying not to be pleased. “You did not just propose to me like that.”
“Technically, you proposed for me.” He smirked and leaned down close enough to kiss her, although he held back, pausing an inch or so away from her lips, waiting for her to meet him. “It was your idea, after all,” he whispered.
He didn’t have to wait long before she pushed up on her toes to press her lips to his. He wrapped his arms around her back to support her, leaning back against the counter to let her fall into him before she broke away and slid down to touch her toes back to the floor.
“This is crazy,” she muttered, grinning. “It’ll never work.”
“Well, maybe it’s a little too soon to know if it’ll work or not.”
He laughed as she trod on his foot a little harder than necessary. “You weren’t supposed to agree with me, you jerk!”
He was still laughing, but he managed to wrangle his expression back to a halfway serious one. “Look, all I know, is you look amazing in my shirt.” He ran his fingers along the hem behind her to prove his point and she flushed a bright crimson. “And I’d love to see you in it every morning from now on.” He raised his eyebrows and the grin she was giving him rivaled his own. “Marry me, Marinette. Make an honest rock star out of me.”
She rolled her eyes at him again. “That’s impossible,” she said. Her grin slid sideways and became that devilish one that turned him into jello in her hands. “But I can certainly try.”
