Tumblr media
i‘m currently in a somekind of writers block about this one shot, that‘s why i decided to post another snippet/teaser. maybe you guys could help me out or something lol.
the reader is clay‘s younger sister and goes by the nickname „Missy“ (it‘s not an indication of her actual name!)
(masterlist | snippet no1 | full thing)
ASKS AND REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!
Tumblr media
„Missy, it‘s me!“ Your head shoots up when you hear Sonny‘s voice. What was the Texan doing in your house? Not that you didn‘t want him here, you‘ve become amazing friends with Bravo Team since your Thanksgiving dinner but it was 12am, so why was Sonny here?
Your head pops out of the kitchen and you eye Sonny. „What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be at work.“
„Trent said I need to step back for a day or two. That fucker got me the wrong way during sparring,“ he explains while he stretches himself on your couch. „You have no problem with me being here, do you? I can also leave if you want me to.“ He looks up at you with a raised eyebrow.
„Oh,“ you smile. „No, you can stay. I have no problem with that.“ You turn to leave to the kitchen again then you turn around once more. „I hope you‘re fine lasagne? Clay asked me to cook it since he‘ll be around for lunch today.“
Sonny starts to grin and stand up immediately. „Did you say lasagne? Count me in Ms.Spenser!“ He follows you to the kitchen like a lost puppy and you laugh at that.
„You really want to compete with Cerberus, do you?“ Sonny only snorts at your question and sits down on one of your kitchen chairs. You laugh and shake your head. „Normally he‘s the one following me to the kitchen like he‘s a saint.“
„He ain‘t a saint,“ Sonny retorts and you grin.
„No, he‘s not. But you are?“ You turn to look at him, just fast enough to see him smirk.
„Never said I was one,“ he answers with a shrug, a full grin now working its way onto his face. „No one‘s a saint,“ he continues, stretching out his legs. „Except for you maybe. You come quite close to one.“
„Why‘s that?“ you ask, sprinkling cheese over the lasagna. You glance at him over your shoulder. He has his hands crossed in his lap and his head laid back, eyes closed. You smirk.

"STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS PLEASE" - RIN ITOSHI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis: Rin discovers that he likes being next to you on public transit. But it probably doesn't mean anything - right?
contents: proplayer!rin, gn!reader, reader is team manager, under the assumption that reader kinda short, fluff, sfw, loosely based off of my recent morning commutes to work, kinda word vomit/kinda proof'd sorry word count: 3.4K a/n: i realized that i wanna write more oneshots and i know i said i was gonna take a break from rin but ... i can't sorry!! apologizes if this feels rushed LMAO
Tumblr media
Rin’s mornings have a strict routine.
He would get up at the crack of dawn, dedicate the first hour to yoga and the second hour to his needed morning run, make himself a protein shake for his meal on the go, and take a brisk cold shower all before jogging down to the train station for his work commute. His routine is nothing but quick and simple in his book, though not everyone can easily pick it up.
Today he wakes up missing his alarm or rather the lack of it.
His phone beams in his face the time 8:35AM and he curses under his breath. Practice starts at 9:00AM sharp and waking up two hours late throws everything off for him. He decides to keep his windows shut, skips out on his morning exercises, ignores the rumbling in his stomach, and sprints to the subway station that's located ten blocks from his apartment.
The air grows heavy and thick from the continuous sea of people cramming into the train car. Usually, the earlier train cars have enough room for him to fully stretch his arms out or even sit if he was feeling lazy but it's practically impossible by the sheer volume he’s currently facing. Rin stands by one of the entrances of the train car, clutching his duffle bag close to his body as more salary men and women alike are shoving past him, trying to claim an open spot of their own.
"Stand clear of the closing doors please." The automatic voice announcement blares through the outdated speakers and lights by the entryways flash yellow as the sliding doors begin to seal shut.
"Wait!" Rin perks up and sees your frantic figure running down the flight of stairs, hands busied with a binder and a duffle bag of your own. "Someone hold the door!"
And while Rin would pretend and ignore just about anyone on any given day, he couldn't do it this time, not when he notices the logo on your bag and the name stitched onto the blue zip-up sweater you had on. He quickly sticks out his foot to prevent the sliding doors from closing, earning himself a harmony of groans from the workers around him, and watches your figure slip past the gap and stop directly in front of him.
He watches you gasp out a breathless 'thank you' before eyes widen at recognition, "You're Rin from Project: Blue Lock, right?" You say a bit too loudly for his liking and swiftly adjust your volume into a whisper. "Sorry, I just read your file before I hopped on." You attempt to point at the binder between the lack of space.
Rin stares at the binder, which appears to be on the verge of spilling out all of its contents of how stuffed it was. "You're the new manager?"
"First day!" You cheer despite almost missing your own commute just moments ago.
The train car sways in motion, causing you to stumble forward and almost crash into him. He watches as you glance around for a surface to hold onto but there isn't much to offer in a crowded room. Rin, of course, had no issue claiming such space as his back leaned against the side wall next to the doors and one of his hands rests freely on the top metal bar.
"Hold onto something," He points out the obvious.
"I’m trying," You respond, but Rin notes that you didn't want to shove your way through the crowd nor grab at the handlebars behind the seats that people sat in. He figures that you're too much of a people pleaser.
The train car lunges itself into motion again after the next stop, this time more packed than before. You were practically pressed together if not for the binder. Much to his own surprise, he lamely offers his extended arm that was gripping onto the metal bar.
"Are you sure?"
"Do you want to hurt yourself?"
You didn't bother fighting back as the next wave of people make their way through and reach to latch your free hand around his arm, fingers pinching the fabric of the athletic undershirt he wore. The train's frequent stops meant a lot of back-and-forth motions, each time you would apologize and he would find himself mumbling back 'no worries'.
When the train finally reaches your shared destination, Rin's collar is pulled to the side and his sleeve is no longer compressed against his skin. His bangs stick to his forehead and he feels sweat drip down his spine. You're still profusely apologizing beneath him but he holds back his sharp tongue.
"It’s fine."
Tumblr media
The second incident follows shortly after during a team excursion to Okinawa's training camp. Since then it had been two months since you started working for the team and Rin was taken aback by how structured you are compared to the first meeting. Ever since joining, productivity and communication between members have increased and during game days you would already have everyone's lockers stocked with necessities such as painkillers, bandages, extra sweatbands, etc. It didn’t take too long before you quickly became everyone’s favorite manager.
Isagi would always greet you with a fist bump first thing in the morning, Bachira follows in after with an overbearing hug, Nagi gifts you whatever latest candy he had in his bag, and lunch is always on Reo.
Rin keeps his distance, he’s like that with everyone, but even he can silently admit that you’re annoyingly good at your job. He hasn’t spoken a word to you outside of official introductions after the train incident - until now.
The bus system in Okinawa is different from the ones he was used to on the main island and it seems like you also figured that out the hard way as he watches you do a second headcount on the public transit. The workers had forgotten to change out the working hours last minute and, because the team went during the slowest season, the schedule wasn't always on time.
Luckily, the last bus of the day was able to pick up everyone from the training camp after one heated call to the company. Unfortunately, this meant the drive back to the hotel was going to be in pitch-black darkness with added bumpy roads (who decided to build a sports facility on top of a mountain?) and of course, this bus has no working AC or indoor lighting.
"... eighteen, nineteen - who am I missing?" You strain your eyes down at the clipboard before peering up again.
"Here," Niko raises his hand next to you which causes you to emit a small screech.
"Geez, okay," The lack of lighting plus the football player's face covered in hair did not help. You make your final check mark and signal the bus driver to start the commute. "Two rules I wanna say for this ride back: one, rest up! You guys killed it today and tomorrow morning we'll fly straight back for regional conferences, I already have your suits tailored and cleaned up in your closets. Two, absolutely no ghost stories on this bus."
Shidou, who's seated directly in front of Rin, starts to laugh and throws his head back, "Hear that? Lil' manager here is scared of the dark."
Rin can't see your expression, but he imagines you making a deep frown. You strut over to Shidou's seat and promptly smack the clipboard on his head.
"I mean it, no ghost stories!"
Bachira tips his head, his phone flashlight already propped under his chin, "But I'm great at telling ghost stories."
Gagamaru jumps in next but he keeps a straight face, "I've been to this mountain last time with my grandpa. It was also the last time I would see him."
Everyone is unsure whether he meant it as a joke or if he was recalling true events. Either way, this conversation needed to end.
You groan dramatically and plop yourself down next to Rin, making the seat bounce ever so slightly, "Please tell me you're on my side."
"He actually enjoys reading horror, your honor." Chirigi replies in amusement.
You whine in return, "What? Why?"
Rin shuffles closer to the window, feeling uncomfortable by the unwanted attention, and plugs in his earbuds, "It's just a stress reliever for me." He answers, hoping that it'll be enough. It wasn't.
"Oh, he totally wishes that all the bad things happen to his brother." Rin rolls his eyes at Isagi's comment while the shorter male and Bachira share a moment in laughter.
"Probably a sadist too." Nagi chimes, not looking up from his mobile game.
"Definitely a major sadist." Reo agrees.
If not for the fact that everyone was good on the field, Rin would've placed half of the football team six feet under by now. He turns up the volume of his earbuds and sinks deeper into the seat.
The whole bus swerves along the cliff's edge, causing everyone to grow quiet as they all grip onto their belongings and the nearest handrest. The only light available is the moon but even that wasn't going to be enough as dark clouds were rolling in. The players scramble in their seats and check their surroundings, seeing nothing but ragged bushes and the dirt road being engulfed by the night.
"Honestly," Your shaky voice is loud enough for him to hear, "this is way worst than ghost stories."
Rin is not someone anyone could go to in need of comfort. Yes, he can be rude (although kinda working on it?), but most of the time it's because he doesn't know how to be comforting. Guess it's time to put his skills in check because he really doesn't want to ride back with a paranoid seatmate.
"Wear this," He takes out his earbud and places it in your ear, handing over his phone with a music library pulled up in the process. "Pick whichever song you want."
Rin didn't expect it to work but you graciously take his phone and throw on a slow, mellow beat to hopefully calm down your frantic state. He leans back into his seat once more, watching your chest slowly fall in a rhythmic pattern and your eyes close shut as you try to calm yourself.
After a few more near-death turns and bumps in the process, the bus manages to make it back to the resort in one piece. While almost every player on board carried green faces and barf bags at the end, the older driver seems to have no issues waving everyone goodbye.
Rin didn't even notice that you and him are the last ones on the bus until he overheard his teammates asking around. He had been too engrossed in the fact that you had fallen asleep next to him.
Again, he holds back his tongue but this time it's in an attempt to hide a smile.
Tumblr media
"How did you manage to misread the time?"
"I didn't do it on purpose!"
"We were supposed to be there now."
Rin stifles back a groan as he watches you pace back and forth on the platform, waiting to catch the next arriving train. Except for the fact that there might not even be a train. Because the last train may or may not have run an hour ago before the construction workers closed the route off for maintenance. Heavy on the may or may not. He knew that he should've gone with the others earlier when Reo offered everyone a ride in his limousine, but Rin kindly stayed behind to help you (it was actually his turn this week) clean up the football field.
"Okay, maybe we should call a taxi instead? Or would an Uber be faster?" You anxiously play with your dress shirt before typing rapidly away at your phone for any quick solutions. "I can't believe I'm going to be late for my first sports banquet!"
Usually, Rin would keep quiet in public when it came to anything related to football. But due to the fact that the train might be delayed for the rest of the night and that you two were the only ones dressed up at the station, he didn’t care.
"It's mine too," Rin adds but with less enthusiasm. "I can guarantee that it's probably nothing special."
"What?!" You practically shrieked in shock, almost stopping in your tracks at his statement. "It's the perfect time to network and meet international players!"
The striker shrugs and kicks at nothing in particular on the ground, scuffing his brown loafers in the process. “Not usually my thing.”
You let out an exasperated sigh, "You can’t just say that when you literally just told me you haven’t been to one!" A few quiet moments pass before you let out a sound of, what he assumes, victory. "Taxi is right outside, let's go!"
You shove his body into the car, purposely ignoring his protests as you scoot closer to the center of the back seat. Your body is now pressed firmly against his and his cheek crashes into the opposing window. Rin shoots you a glare and you merely roll your eyes in response.
"You literally have all that space next to you. Do you really need to be in the center?"
"Listen here," He widens his eyes as you whip out a hairbrush and a whole skincare set from your bag. "My goal tonight is impressing all the other players and their managers. And appearance is what people notice first." You said as you apply a full-on face mask.
"You can’t be serious right now."
"Oh, but I am." You grin and shove an extra sheet mask in his hands.
It reads 'Collagen Essential Lifting & Firming Sheet Mask' in big pink letters with an image of a snail in the background. Not like he hasn't done skincare, but Rin wasn't sure if a snail really belonged on the cover image of the packaging. He tries to throw it back on your lap but your hand stops him.
You whip your head around to glare, "Put it on, or else I'm doing it for you."
Something about your sharp tone sent shivers down his spine. Rin reluctantly rips open the packaging and carefully starts placing it on his face, making sure the extra solution doesn't drip all over his suit. The mask against his skin is cold, wet, and smells nothing like snails.
He glances at the rearview mirror to see his reflection, the extra white flaps from the sheet hang off of his face in a way that reminds him of a soggy mummy, and he grimaces, "I look ridiculous."
Rin flinches when he feels your fingers on his face, grabbing the extra flaps and readjusting their position back on his cheek, "After this, you'll look like a newborn baby!"
Rin flicks his eyes away from his own reflection to scowl at you but is taken aback at your appearance. While his facemask is just a white sheet, yours had little cute characters printed on it, and he could not take you seriously.
"You look so stupid right now." He didn't mean to have his intrusive thoughts slip out so easily, especially since you're his manager, and almost backtracks his words immediately. "Stupidly cute." Wait that doesn't sound any better. His other intrusive thoughts got in the way!
"Itoshi Rin?"
"Yes?"
He feels a flick on his forehead followed by a series of giggles.
"You're such a weirdo."
Tumblr media
"You like our manager, don't you?"
For the first time in ages, Rin misses his shot.
"What?"
Aiku stands behind with a shit-eating grin that Rin is all too familiar with. Ah, the unsolicited relationship advice from 'big brother' Aiku is what Rin likes to call it.
"C'mon, you guys are super buddy-buddy now!" Aiku attempts to rest an arm on one of Rin's shoulders but he steps aside.
While he's not completely wrong, the two of you have grown slightly comfortable with each other's presence since the banquet, Rin wouldn't quite think of anything more of it. You are a naturally sociable person and Rin just happens to have gotten used to your presence. Nothing more and nothing less.
"Don't go spreading around rumors like that." He jogs to get the ball however Aiku beats him to it and holds the ball captive between his feet.
"You smiled at them this morning." Aiku points out and awfully recreates Rin's 'smile'.
Rin rolls his eyes and tries to get the ball but Aiku pushes it further away, "That doesn't mean anything."
"Okay but recently you've been sitting together quite often." Aiku decides to start dribbling the ball down the field and Rin is quick to follow after.
"Maybe I'm just less annoying to be around."
"Would you let Isagi sit next to you? Bachira? Me?" Rin jumps in an attempt to block his shot but it barely grazes his head as it flies smoothly into the goalpost. He loses his balance and falls straight to his bottom in defeat.
"Let me help you." The taller male persistently offers and holds out a hand.
"Like you have any luck with relationships." Rin swats the hand away and begrundingly gets up. Aiku ignores the comment.
"I'll make the guys stay behind today to clean up the locker rooms so that you and our little manager can have some quality time together." Aiku puts emphasis on the last part and it's almost enough to make Rin throw his cleats at him but he saves the action in his imagination instead.
"I'm leaving," Rin dismisses his co-captain's suggestion and begins to walk off the field.
He hears Aiku clicking his tongue in annoyance, "Does arrogance run in the family or something?"
Without turning back, Rin holds up his middle finger and makes a beeline toward the locker rooms.
Getting on the subway during the afternoons is always rough for just about everyone. Unlike the mornings, which are just filled with salary men and women, the afternoon hosts a wide range of age groups and it doesn't help that the station he has to take is in a centralized location in the city. It feels like sardines packed in a tin can.
"Stand clear of the closing doors please." The automatic voice blares above his head as he leans against the wall in the corner of the train car, away from where the majority of people had gathered.
"Woah, fancy seeing you here!" Your chirpy voice makes Rin do a sharp turn as you barely squeeze through the sliding doors. The sight of it makes him recall back to the first meeting, although this time with a lack of disheveled hair and a thick binder in the way.
You swiftly manuver your body over to his spot through the sea of people, "Do you usually get off this time?" You didn't ask to be instigating but rather out of curiosity.
Rin takes hold of the top metal bar as the train starts to move, "Not really. Just needed a break from Aiku." He confesses.
"He can be a bit much."
You try and shift your weight so that you could stand up straight but it fails and you end up leaning against another passenger. The stranger sends a nasty glare while you fix your posture, apologizing profusely to them. Once again, the train car ended up being too crowded for you to secure a spot of your own and you weren't in a good position to reach for the top bar.
Subconsciously, Rin offers his arm again, not wanting to see you struggle for the remaining stops. This time around, you had no hesitation in latching your hand around his bicep. A small part of his brain wanders back to Aiku's question and it plagues his mind.
Does he like you? He knows that he doesn't mind being next to you. And he doesn't quite mind when you touch him. Talking to you feels nice too. Wait, this all sounds like a crush, he thinks. The hand on his bicep suddenly feels like it's on fire and he starts sweating.
"Sorry, is it getting hot in here?" You speak from below and he realizes that your hand is slowly slipping off by the amount he was producing due to just nerves alone.
"My bad." His free hand clasps yours back onto his bicep and he holds it in place.
"You sure? I can try grabbing something else." You suggest.
It's nerve-wracking but Rin does admit that it feels nice.
"I don't mind."
Standing next to you on the crowded train is rather fitting at the end of the day, he thinks.

Part 1
“It’s not that bad.”
“It happens to everyone.”
Those were the phrases used by the Avengers to console Y/N. It was ironic coming from the enhanced bunch. To an ordinary person, it was that bad and it didn’t happen to everyone. Especially not to the overly experienced enhanced Avengers telling her otherwise.
Who would have thought that bracing a fall could seal someone’s fate for months. Bedridden on a grade 3 wrist sprain wasn’t ideal but it was necessary. Y/N had been restless, eager to use both hands again, to feel normal again. Instead, Y/N’s wrist was bandaged lying limply at her side.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Sighing, Y/N used her free hand to mute the television. Her day had been filled with non-stop visits from the Avengers but none of them understood. They couldn’t understand something they hadn’t experienced. She’d rather be left alone. Attempting to push herself up, a lightning bolt of pain shot through her wrist and Y/N was once again reminded of the helplessness she felt.
No sooner than the yelp escaped Y/N’s lips did the door open.
Clutching her wrist to her chest, Y/N whispered, “Please just leave me alone. You don’t know how it feels-” Her voice caught in her throat when her eyes met concerned cerulean orbs. If anyone knew what she was feeling, it was Bucky Barnes.
Slipping through the crack in the door, Bucky crossed the bedroom with a yellow smiley face floating above him.
“It's from the team,” Bucky announced awkwardly, tying the balloon to the bedpost.
“Oh.”
Before Y/N could thank him, his cool Vibranium palm pressed into the center of her back helping her sit up. His flesh hand shoved a pillow behind her to prop her up.
“Thank you,” Y/N muttered. “You didn’t have to do that. I could have leaned on my good arm.”
Bucky stepped back, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “I know, but you don’t have to do it all by yourself.”
Y/N gnawed at her bottom lip. Guilt swirled in the pit of her stomach. She hadn’t expected Bucky to be the one to walk through the door.  “Listen Bucky, what I said-”
Bucky shrugged. “You don’t have to explain. I get it. The team means well.” Bucky’s eyes suddenly lit up, then he pulled a card from his back pocket. “It’s not much but,” he trailed off with the card extended between his Vibranium fingers. His face scrunched up as his flesh palm slapped the center of his forehead. His fingers made quick work of removing the card from the envelope. “Sorry about that,” he mumbled, handing her the card.
Y/N chuckled at his awkwardness. Staring at the front of the card, Y/N smiled at the happy face with the words “Get Well Soon!” printed across it to match the balloon. Written in black ink and all capital letters was the word “You” followed by an arrow pointed to the smiley face. Y/N didn’t need to ask who wrote it. Y/N didn’t understand it, but Bucky always wrote in all caps.
Bucky rubbed the back of his neck gauging her reaction as she one handedly opened the card.
The bottom read, “IN MY OUR HEARTS,” followed by a bunch of the Avengers names. Each name was written in all upper-case letters. Rather than calling Bucky out on signing the Avenger’s names, she thanked him.
“You should elevate your arm, keep the swelling down.”
“Thank you, Doctor Barnes,” She mocked.
The super-soldier grinned. “I’ll just let you get back to,” he waved a hand toward the television, “whatever that is. Let me know if you need anything.”
Before Bucky could reach the door, Y/N called out, “Wait.” Bucky turned around. “I could use some company,” she said sheepishly, patting the side of her bed.
Bucky blushed. He raced toward the bed like a dog finally allowed on the furniture. Kicking off his boots, he sat cross legged beside her. His hands respectfully on his knees. Y/N unmuted the TV allowing foreign voices to fill the space. The silence between them was comfortable.
Glancing at the smiley face bobbing at the end of the bed then to Bucky’s upturned palm, she extended her injured wrist lacing her fingers with his. Startled, Bucky’s head snapped over his shoulder to look back at her. She was smiling. The corners of his lips twitched upward. “What are you doin’?”
Averting her eyes back to the screen, she shrugged. “Elevating my wrist.”
The cool contrast of his Vibranium arm acted as ice providing her instant relief but she would never admit it.
Bucky smirked, his Vibranium thumb running feather light circles over her bandage. “Just what the doctor ordered.”

Chishiya x Reader Oneshot; Smartass
Tumblr media
Spades and Diamonds.
You already knew which person had to go where, which one between you and your partner was best for the very different survival games. One was all about using your head, outsmarting everyone to come out alive, and the other was about using your fists, your fight, physical strength rather than mental. And although you wouldn't say that you're the most physical person, especially in the Borderlands, you knew that in all the Borderlands, Chishiya Shuntaro could probably outsmart every single player. Maybe every gamemaster.
It was one of the first things you'd said to him when you met. During the Jack of Hearts, while the numbers of players were dropping on the screen, until it was just you and a handful of apprehensive, strange survivors left, Chishiya had stalked up to you and suggested you team up. The smirk that radiated self-confidence and amusement with the world, barely taking it seriously, but winning every game anyway, just because he could.
"Why don't you go solo?" You had questioned him with a raised brow, slightly defensive after he had called out your behaviour of just tagging along with the group but barely saying a word. You knew that trust was a priceless thing in the Borderlands, let alone in a Hearts game, and no one was worthy of it. "If you're such a smartass."
You thought that might get him annoyed, give him another reason to try and eliminate you from the game apart from being a survivor in the way of finding the Jack, or that you were the Jack yourself. But, if anything, his smirk grew, and those deep brown eyes looked almost curious as they glanced up and down at you.
"If I'm so smart, then what might you be?"
You scoffed under your breath, shrugging and looking away. "Wouldn't you like to know."
"Maybe I would," was Chishiya's answer, and you looked up at him, taken aback. But you could see that he meant it, that curiosity shining through his otherwise blank, assessing features, and so, after getting out of that game alive, and many others with him suddenly at your side, he did know. You both started to know each other, more and more, until you were practically inseparable.
No one announced that you were together. There was no proposal, no question of going out, no massive gesture. You were together before you were together. It only took one sealing kiss, where you were both alone in another long, tense night that somehow seemed a bit relaxed with your company. Chishiya always seemed so unbothered, so humoured by the world and people around him, like it was playing out for his amusement. But now, as you're faced with a dilemma that's hardly a dilemma, he doesn't look so amused. He looks almost as apprehensive as the players around you look when you and Chishiya breeze through the challenges, working together flawlessly. Chishiya found it odd how easy it was to know what the other was thinking almost all of the time during games, to find an interest in someone new and different, until it unfolded into something deeper and more loving. The whole thing was completely alien to the both of you, but you loved it, and let it blossom.
But now, as the large fluttering images of the face cards are dragged through the sky by fat blimps, Chishiya's brows twitch unapprovingly, searching for a solution that will guarantee both of your safety.
"Go," you urge him, and he knows what you mean immediately, staring at you thoughtfully. "It's your game, Chishiya. Go beat the King of Diamonds. I'll manage, I will."
Chishiya doesn't answer for a stretched-out few moments, still looking for another option, a way for you to stay at each other's side like you always do, but there isn't anything. You can't risk losing a Diamonds game, and Chishiya can't risk getting beaten at a Spade game.
"You will," Chishiya says finally, though he's not agreeing. He's making you promise him, convincing himself as well as yourself. You know that he'll have no interest in returning to the real world without you, and by this point, you can't imagine living any way without him. You don't want to, and you won't.
"I will," you repeat, and he nods, not fully satisfied. But it's the best you can do.
"Good luck," he says with a smirk that doesn't quite quirk up fully, and his hand lingers in yours until Arisu and Usagi come over to get you.
Chishiya nods again, letting your hands fall apart, and goes over to Arisu, walking up close to him and muttering some words in his ear. Arisu looks straight at you, then at Chishiya, and nods with a half-smile. Then, he wanders off casually, blonde locks tangling with the light breeze, and you watch after him, hands going cold and lips vaguely swollen.
"Come on," Usagi tells you with a smile, patting you on the back, "let's go."
You do go. And you do the best you can do. You feel like Chishiya's watching you every step of the way, like he watches the Borderlands' events in half-hearted amusement. It's like he's leaning forward in his seat, pools of deep brown searching the screen you're running through, dodging attacks and bullets and shielding your ears from the bangs and cracks of the King's gun. There's so much blood, more blood than you thought was possible to come out of anyone. The stinging smell of iron makes you feel sick, all the while you fight to the death. Usagi and Arisu and everyone are beaten and broken, right up until the King is defeated. But by then, everyone is defeated.
Even you.
You feel almost guilty, along with the rush of other emotions; shock, dread, fear, pain, desperation. You can't bleed out on him now. Not when you've come so far. Not after you promised.
Arisu and Usagi make it towards you, helping you up and practically carrying you out of the game zone, Arisu screaming for help, help for another person, despite his cuts and bruises and blood staining his skin. Overhead, you hear two blimps boom up in flames, falling apart and to the ground in crashes, the card images flailing and burning, as dead as the countless bodies sprawled on the floor.
Two booms.
You smile despite yourself. You knew he'd do it. The smartass.
"Chishiya!" you hear Arisu scream, and Usagi supports your weight as Arisu stumbles over to the blonde-haired man, grabbing at his arm. "Help us. Help her. I tried, but there was so much..."
So much blood. So many bullets. Arisu had tried, and he hadn't failed. But now, as your blurring sight latches onto that all-too-familiar figure who walked quicker than normal to get to you, you feel as if you've failed. All in a moment, one shot from the King at the nearest moving thing was all it took to make you collapse, all of a sudden losing the invincibility you had with your other half.
The blurring made the Borderlands and its sounds fade in and out, in and out, until you were able to blink a neutral, albeit run-down room into view. It was the back room of some kind of shop, with you lying back atop a table, your shot wound being patched up with delicate, expert hands and concentrating, meticulous eyes. Those eyes flick up to meet yours before they're back on the wound, and Chishiya's white, plastic-gloved hand pulls out a bullet. You wince, expecting more pain than you get, and watch him groggily.
"Isn't this supposed to hurt?" you find yourself whispering, and Chishiya shakes his head, not looking up.
"I gave you some pain relievers I found. Don't fidget, I'll mess this up."
You smile and roll your eyes. "I won't argue with a doctor."
"Good," he says with an absentminded, small smirk, carefully stitching up the hole and pulling a bandage closer to the table. "I know what I'm doing. Fortunately for you, the shot missed a vital organ, though the blood loss could have cost your life if I didn't stop it when I did."
You bite your lip, peering at your flushed, angry skin around the wound. "Oh. Thank you."
He hums in acknowledgement, putting the needle and thread down to unravel the bandage. "Stop fidgeting, you little annoyance."
You bite back a smile at his amused, fond tone, one you'd grown to love hearing, and started hearing more and more. But your smile fades as your thoughts run away with you, until you end up blurting them out.
"I'm sorry."
Chishiya glances up at you. "What for?"
"Getting shot," you mumble. "I know I promised. It was just really... I didn't die."
"You didn't die," Chishiya confirms. "That's what matters, isn't it? You kept your promise. And life and death here isn't something you can so easily promise."
"No," you agree. "I know. But you can. You're such a smartass, I knew you'd waltz out of that game alive and alone."
Chishiya smirks properly at that. "I'm still the smartass? I thought you would have started treating me nicer now I've saved your life and you've saved mine."
You frown at the last statement, confused. "I saved your life? How?"
Chishiya simply smiles, fastening the bandage and admiring his work. "You have. Maybe not from a gun. But you have."
You're lost for words for a short while, blinking at him. "Really?"
Chishiya nods, sitting beside you and reaching out hesitantly, stroking a piece of your hair so delicately, like you could break with a single hard tap.
"Really. You," he whispers dramatically, as if he's telling you his biggest secret, "are my biggest and best reason."
And then, just like that, he's back up and packing the medical aids away, looking over his shoulder at you with his usual, infuriating amusement and perceptiveness.
"You're blushing."
You scoff at him, rolling your eyes.
"Smartass."

(Y/N) (M/I) (L/N)
“BONNIE”
D.O.B. 10.22.94 / D.O.S. 10.22.13
Navy Seal, USSF / Sniper / Marksman
-----
Price had knocked on my door this morning, waking me up at an ungodly hour on my day off. “Come to my office at nine hundred. Don’t disappoint me.” He had said. He then walked off, leaving me in the doorway with a rats’ nest head of hair and puffy eyes from crying the night before. I stared into the hallway as I processed his words. Figures… throwing a knife at Ghost wasn’t the smartest thing to do.
I peered out beyond my doorframe, watching as Price stopped in front of Ghost’s door. It creaked open, words were exchanged briefly, and then Price moved on. There was a long pause before Ghost’s door slammed shut, followed by a bang as he punched the wall in his dorm.
What a child…
I looked back in front of me; Soap, whose dorm was adjacent to mine, was poking his head out. He winced mockingly. “Ouch… I think he didn’t like your assassination attempt, lass.” He mimicked me throwing my knife.
I stared at him for a moment, unamused. “Go fuck a donkey, Soap.” I barely caught a glimpse of his pout before I slammed my door shut.
-----
I got there at nine hundred on the dot, my hair still wet from my shower, and for the first time since I had met him, Price was the one who was late. Or rather, held up in his office by someone. But, nonetheless, his streak of punctuality was broken. A bad omen, for sure…
I listened, unintentionally, to the conversation in Price’s office. I heard him speaking with a man I heard called “Jax” – a higher-up, a therapist, someone from the “HR” of the military… I didn’t know who he was. But it appeared he would be deciding how Ghost and I would get reprimanded for the rift we were causing within the team.
“Bonnie?” said the unfamiliar voice. “Like Bonnie and Clyde?” followed by an affirmative grunt from Price. “Why?”
“She’s got looks, she’s small, but she’d blow your head open for the thrill of it. And you’d best believe she never misses, either.”
The unknown man paused, glancing over the file – my file, I could tell – and reading the details. “Sniper, marksman, Navy SEAL…“
Price huffed. “Stealth is her specialty. If her head is in the game, she’s a quick thinker, and an even quicker hitman – she once took out a whole checkpoint on her own. Killed ‘em all in less than a minute n’ a half, never even made a sound.”
The man whistled low in admiration. “How’d you get your hands on her?”
“Military couldn’t handle her attitude,” Price admitted, “but they didn’t want to waste the talent either. Bought her off of them before she could end up in the wrong hands.” He sounded smug.
“Leave it to you to pull an operations team out your ass, Price.”
“If it were that easy I’d have a lot more soldiers, Jax.”
The muffled lull of their conversation continued, and my mind refocused on what I had planned to say to Price. It was never supposed to be this messy. We both made a mistake, and a damn big one. We caused issues for the team, we were only thinking of ourselves… basically, share my side of the story, and admit and own up to it all. It was the truth, after all, as well as the best possible way to come out of Price’s office with my head and my job.
Of course, I’d leave out the part where Ghost insulted me – more than once. Or, where he was the one who started the fight in the hall. I mean, technically I did… but I was trying to right my wrong, he had no reason to go after me. Why did he do that? I suddenly realized that Ghost had been seeking out fights ever since a month ago. At first, we avoided each other, but he was the one who lurked around in places I frequented, just to single me out and argue.
That fucking prick.
The conversation in Price’s office ended, ended, and the door swung open. A tall, burly man stepped out: he looked down at me with scrutiny. I stared back. He chuckled.
I tilted my head up and narrowed my eyes. “Can I fucking help you?”
“I guess we’ll see.” He replied, before walking away with a smirk on his face. I scoffed in disgust just as Price stepped out of the office.
“C’mon in, Bonnie.” He stepped aside and gestured me into the office. I reluctantly stood, stretching my limbs and trying to seem unbothered, and entered. Price closed the door behind us. Feels like I’m a kid again in the principal’s office.
I took a seat in the chair facing his desk and immediately stared at the ground. I was hoping this was just going to be some stern, disciplinary lecture. Don’t let it happen again. Which I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t have lashed out at all, if Ghost hadn’t been pushing every single one of my buttons, when he was the one who created this whole landslide in the first place. Honestly if Ghost had just acted like nothing had ever even happened, like I was trying to do –
“- Bonnie, you with me?” Price said, snapping me back to the present. He was now sitting across from me and waving a hand in my direction.
I cleared my throat, doing a poor job at hiding my anxiety. “Yes sir.”
“Alright then. Let’s talk about it.”
I nodded. “Well, after the job in Mexico, maybe about a year – “
“Oh no, no…” Price cut me off with a shake of his head. “I don’t need a recap. I know everything that the two of you have been up to. The whole damn base does.”
I felt a shameful blush rise into my cheeks. If I had any confidence before walking into Price’s office, it was long gone by now. “Oh…” I mumbled.
“‘Oh’?” Price repeated. “Don’t tell me you actually thought you were goin’ under everyone’s nose, did you?” He tapped his pen on his desk with an irritated look. “Aren’t you supposed to be an ex Navy SEAL, here?”
I stared back at him, unamused and unphased by his comment. “Ok, so we may not have tried that hard to keep it a secret. But it was initially just a casual thing.”
Price nodded as he listened. “Initially… so what did it turn into? Because this – “ he gestured to me with a flourish of his pen, “ – is not from something casual.”
I couldn’t answer him. I averted my eyes to his desk, feeling his eyes burning into mine. Into my soul, trying to bring me to the breaking point. But if there was one thing I was perfect at, it was avoiding. So I let myself burn under his gaze, knowing the storm would eventually pass. One way or another.
Price sighed, dragging a hand down his face. “Look, it happens. You throw a bunch of people in a room, deprive them for a few months, and stress them the hell out – they’re bound to make mistakes.”
There was that fucking word again.
“I won’t lie, I’ve been there myself.” Price continued, and I raised a curious eyebrow at him. He ignored it. “And I’m not going to try and prevent it, it’ll only muck things up more. But, when it causes such an issue that my entire team is suffering, something needs to be done. And clearly you and Ghost aren’t reaching any solutions.”
I chewed my lip, leaning my elbows on my knees and anxiously bouncing my knee. I wanted to jump in and tell him my side of the story. I knew for a fact that Price had let Ghost spill his guts on the subject. He always listened to him no matter what. I wanted to explain why I was angry, exactly what Ghost had said and how I had felt – but I know he wouldn’t listen. Not to mention, it would have been extremely personal.
“So, going off of that –“ Price reached across his desk and grabbed a pile of papers, “ – I found a solution for the both of you.”
I sighed. Therapy, workplace relationship, probably anger management for me… Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he suggested one of us moves to the other side of the barracks –
“That man out there? ‘Jax’. Director of a private military group, just like us.” He flopped the papers on the desk in front of me. I hesitated, looking at Price with confusion, to which he tilted his heads towards the papers. “Take a look.”
I sighed and grabbed the documents. He’s got to be so fucking dramatic, doesn’t he. I scanned the first page: Major August Jax, a very decorated ex-marine. Served two terms, now owns a private military special operations force. Based in Arizona, mostly deals with hostage situations –
“I’m sorry,” I toss the papers back onto the desk. “Why am I reading this?” I asked, my tone a little too angry. It gave away that I knew exactly what Price was thinking, feigning innocence just to push it away a moment longer.
“Jax’s got a good team on his hands.” Price began. He wouldn’t look at me. I leaned forward and glared into his eyes, daring him to look back. Fucking look at me when you throw me out the window, Price.
“He’s always looking for the best soldiers to add to his group. We got wind that he’d been asking around for a marksman. I offered him you.” He paused, noticing the hurt and anger building in my expression. “You’re a good soldier, Bonnie. I would only recommend you to the best team out there. And I might not even have half a mind to do this, if it wasn’t for the situation at hand, between you n’ Ghost.” His face showed compassion, although I felt none of it. It was a façade.
Instead, I felt betrayed. Maybe I did deserve some sort of reprimand for the way I’d been acting, but this felt like a banishment. That’s exactly what it was.
“You’re kicking me off the team?”
Price sighed, facing the dreaded conversation ahead. “This is a reassignment, I’m not- “
“You’re getting rid of me.”
“You’re making this seem much worse than it is.”
“How much did he pay you for me, huh?”
“Bonnie.” Price warned. Watch yourself, now. I was treading awfully close to the edge of the knife here, but I knew he had received some sort of payment or trade for me.
I sank into the back of my chair and huffed, folding my arms over my chest. “So Ghost gets a slap on the wrist. I get sent away.” I looked away from Pierce’s stern gaze and chewed my lip. The anger was quickly boiling over. “Like a fucking dog.”
“Ghost will get his dues.” Price said. “You both were causing issues for the team, now you’re both cleaning your mess up.”
I looked back at Price, taking a moment to glower at him. “Then why does he get to stay?” I said.
Price faltered, searching for the right words. “Ghost is a lieutenant, and he’s an important member of the team.”
I scoffed. “Wow, thanks…”
“- and…” he continued, “… because he’s been a part of this team for so long, he’s essential to it. He’s a leader for the 141, and I’d be ripping the group apart if he was the one goin’.”
“I’m waiting to hear how you somehow avoid insulting me in this next part.” I sent him a glare full of daggers.
“You’re not making this easy, girl.” Price leaned back in his chair. He was unphased by my anger; one of the few who were. “You’re a wild card: you’re a damn good shot, and your wit has gotten our missions through on the better side of things, more than once. But no one outside of our team knows that. You’re good at your game, but you don’t stand out – to the enemy, anyways.”
There was a pause in the conversation as Price let me process his words. They scraped the inside of my mind like burning daggers. Why is this such an easy decision for him to make? Did he decide this last night? Or in the last few days? Looking into Price’s eyes, I felt humiliated. Like I was never as important to him or the team as he made me feel. And it felt heartbreaking, watching his unreadable expression behind his locked fingers.
“Sir, I’m not a fucking baseball card.”
“No, you’re not.” He replied. “But it’s easier for you to move teams. No one knows what you’ve been involved in, because you managed to stay under everyone’s radar. And I salute you for that – it takes a lot of skill.”
His words weren’t convincing. They felt like colorful ribbons tied around a pile of trash. I huffed. “You’re a load of horseshit, you know that?” My anger clouded my judgement as I spoke, forgetting that Price was my superior.
He sighed, seeming to fight some internal war. “Jesus, y/n, I don’t want this anymore than you do. But you know this is how it has to be.”
“Is it?!” I raised my voice (something Price seemed to fully expect, as he remained unbothered). “No – you know what? You’re right.” I got up out of my seat, walking to the far corner of the room, pacing in small circles. “Ship me off to whoever gives you the most money, why don’t you? It’s not like I was a part of the team just as much as he is. But whatever, keep your happy little group together, right? Keep your favorites and to hell with everyone else, huh? I don’t care. I don’t fucking care anymore. I just want to get the fuck away from you all, so maybe you’re onto something, John.”
Price leaned forward in his chair, looking at me with stern eyes. He made it clear that I was dangerously close to crossing a line, if I hadn’t already. “You listen hear and you listen good, alright? We do dirty work in an even dirtier world for people who don’t deserve shit. I run things smoothly by having a team that respects one another. They know they have each other’s backs out there. They work together. You’d best be very careful with what you say about how I operate my team. Now you n’ Ghost have been causing way too much trouble for way too long. It’s been affecting the whole team, and the two of you have been so selfish that you can’t even notice. You in particular have completely lost yourself to your emotions. It’s my job to make sure that my division stays in-tact and on top of their shit. And you bet that the moment I see a flame threatening to burn all that down – I snuff it out. In whichever way gets it done.”
I’d never seen Price so angry before. At least, not with me. Knowing that I had disappointed him – and was currently doing that – felt worse than a bullet to the chest. Price had saved my ass when I was about to be dumped in a military prison; I respected him for that and was forever thankful. So, when I realized how I had just disrespected him, a hint of shame tugged at my mind.
But I forced it down. He was uprooting my entire life from the past ten years and expecting me to ‘take one for the team’. Maybe I hadn’t done as much for everyone as he had done for us, but he said it himself all the time: “Your skills are unmatched.” “We would’ve had a lot more losses without you out there.” “You’re essential for a smooth mission, Bonnie.” The only reason he was doing this was because Ghost had probably talked him up about it. Ghost could really be manipulative when he wanted to… but this still hurt. It still made my blood boil, thinking that Price was so quick to get rid of me, like I was a weed in his garden.
“So that’s it.” I said, defeated, the sting of tears threatening to fall. There was no coming back from this. “I’m out.”
Price nodded, his lips pressed into a tight line. “Afraid so.” He said curtly. He’d had enough of trying to sugarcoat things. I could tell he just wanted me to skip to the acceptance stage and start packing my bags.
I blankly stared at him. I felt my body slump as the realization finally hit. I felt the need to say something, anything, but nothing worth saying came to mind. Instead I looked at Price, sitting behind his desk, hands folded as he watched me process it all. A sudden anger flooded my veins. This is just another transaction for him. He would have done this for any situation. I narrowed my eyes as my mind was brimming with rage.
Price could tell I was getting worked up again. He sighed in annoyance, glancing at the paperwork on his desk. “Look, girl, it’s all said and done. Best you start packing your things tonight, get some sleep before you leave tomorrow.”
Like a weed. Like a thorn in his side. My breaking point had been reached. Crushed. I was back at the bottom of the ladder, where I started out with the 141.
“You know what, sir… “ I leaned over the back of my chair, placing my hands on the arm rests and glowering at Price. “… respectfully- “
“Bonnie-“ he warned, but I didn’t care.
“ -fuck you.” I shoved my finger indignantly in his face, then immediately turned on my heels. I punched open the doors to his office, feeling the buzz of my anger radiate off of me.
Price doesn’t say anything as I storm off. He doesn’t have to. The decision has been made – I could shout and curse and fight all I wanted, but I was being taken off of the team, whether they had to handcuff me and drag me out or not. I felt humiliated realizing that the whole base would be able to guess what happened, and why. I knew that Ghost wouldn’t dare open his mouth about it – but he wouldn’t stop the rumors, either. Price wouldn’t even care.
Fucking push-over. Of course he chooses Ghost. Two peas in a fucking pod, they are.
-----
I didn’t sleep. I had packed everything – my clothes, personal files, knives, and whatever else I cared to call mine – in less than an hour and in three duffel bags, which were now piled by my door. I sat on the edge of my bed and stared at them. My head was empty, unable to process a single thought or emotion. I was spent from my conversation with Price. I didn’t cry after, like I usually did when I fought with Ghost. At least that will be over. I tried to think optimistically, but it was hard. It was hard to think at all. The hours ticked by like minutes as I waited for the dawn to break.
Finally, at seven hundred and nine hours, a knock rapped against the door. I knew who it was. I stood up and swiftly grabbed my bags, opening the door – Jax stood there, a proud smile on his face.
“You said all your goodbyes?” he asked.
“Yep.” I lied. I hadn’t said anything to anyone after leaving Price’s office.
“Great. Let’s get moving, then.” He grabbed one of my bags from me, throwing it over his shoulder. “I’ll give you a hand, young lady.”
Already, I could feel myself hating the reassignment. Already, Jax was treating me like a fragile, sensitive girl. To be fair, the 141 did at first, but they had grown to see me as the skill and potential that I am. An independent soldier. I didn’t want to start over and try to prove myself to a new team. No use crying over it now.
I followed Jax, passing Soap as he stood leaned in his doorway, looking melancholic. I looked back, emotionless. I would miss him. He was one of the only people I would miss at this point, after what had gone down. He was always there to listen, and either offer solutions, or just let me vent. Whichever I needed, he provided. Losing him was going to hurt the most.
But I wasn’t going to let it. I turned my head from him and kept moving.I saw that it looked like Soap wanted to say something. I ignored it.
Beth and Skyline weren’t there. Neither were Gaz or Price. I knew Ghost was somewhere, lurking from the sidelines as I loaded my bags onto a heli. But I didn’t care. I did, but I didn’t let myself look back. If I did I would be in shambles, realizing how much I needed this place and the people here. I felt like a tree being torn out of the ground, roots hanging in the air, searching for a place to ground myself. As long as I didn’t look back, as long as I pushed back the pain and the loneliness, the voice in my head screaming for me to get closure, to say goodbye and get one final look – I would be fine. Or at least, it wouldn’t hurt as much.
I slapped a headset over my ears, sliding into the back of the heli. Jax and an unfamiliar soldier sat in the front as we prepared to take off. “Where are we headed?!” I asked over the deafening sound of the spinning blades. I ignored the sickening feeling of loss that ebbed in the back of my mind.
“Didn’t you read the file from Price?!” Jax turned and looked at me through his dark sun glasses, a smirk resting on his lips. “We’re going to Czech Slovakia!!”

I love your writing! Could I please request a cute and fluffy hotch oneshot/blurb. Maybe reader brings their little girl to the BAU and Aaron just loves her so much! Picks her up and covers her in kisses as soon as she runs into the bullpen, does anything for her and the team tease him for how their daughter has him wrapped around her little finger. Just adore! Girl dad hotch :)))
Delilah is a daddy's girl. Maybe it's because she doesn't see him as often as she sees you, maybe it's because he walks through the door at bedtime, and is favorable for sleepy snuggles and stories, maybe it's because he keeps a package of oreos in his desk that are marked with her name. But whatever it is, she's bouncing off the walls of the elevator on her way up to Daddy's Work.
Her little mary janes scuff against the wall and you click your tongue exasperatedly, though fondness is harbored in your chest towards the little girl.
"Delilah," You croon, taking her small, pudgy hand in your own, "Stand still, honey, jumping around won't make it go any faster."
"Sorry," She grins up at you toothily, eyes shiny, "I'm excited."
"I know," You smooth a hand over her hair, but reattach it to hers at the ding of the elevator so that she doesn't rocket through the doors, "But remember, Daddy's work is important and we have to behave, we can't run, or shout, or- hey!"
She shouts, running towards her father.
As much as you want to lecture the little girl on proper behavior in a government building, the matching smile on her and Aaron's faces as he scoops her off of the ground with ease eradicates any frustration that festers.
"Dee," Aaron coos, lips pressing rapidfire against her cheeks as she giggles, "You're here!"
"I'm here, Daddy!" She squeals, legs wrapped tight around his torso, "I brought you lunch!"
You brandish the sandwich shop's bag, and he smiles gratefully at you before turning back to his daughter, "My favorite! Thank you, baby. I think," He overexaggerates a smooch to her nose, the noise making her giggle, "That we should," Another kiss, to her forehead with a loud mwah, "Take this into my office," The left cheek this time, which she bares for him, "And have some of Auntie Penelope's cookies for dessert."
He finishes off with an overzealous kiss to her right cheek, really sealing the deal. She flops her face down into her father's neck, little nose squished against his lapel, "I want cookies now, Daddy."
"Cookies now?" He glances up at you, cheeks beginning to ache with the force of his smile, "Maybe one now, and one later?"
"One now, and two later." She decides, voice still muffled into his collar, "For making me wait."
His jaw momentarily goes slack, an incredulous scoff escaping his lips as he stares bewilderedly at you. You shrug, "She's good at negotiating, Aaron."
"Too good," He pats her back, turning to haul her back into his office. He reaches blindly for your hand with her head obscuring his vision, but finds it easily, and he tugs you along beside the two of them up the stairs and into his office.
Once she's had not one, not two, but three cookies, the extra indeed for the grueling patience she had to employ, she decides she wants to play hide and seek.
"No peeking!" She glares at her father, a perfect mini-me of the grumpy man, "Mommy, make sure he doesn't peek."
"I will," You promise, slipping your hands over Aaron's eyes from behind, "He won't see a thing, angel."
With that, she races off, feet thumping loud enough to where he knows exactly where she's going. JJ's desk has always been her favorite hiding spot, though you're certain that has more to do with the strawberry candies she keeps in her purse than the location.
After a minute has gone by you lead Aaron out of his office, pointedly ignoring the small black-shoed foot that you can see poking out from beneath JJ's desk. She smirks knowingly at you, "I don't know where she went."
"Hmmm," Aaron puzzles, and you're sure if Delilah was watching him, he'd be tapping his chin in thought, "Let's see. Is she in Morgan's desk?"
He reaches for the agent's bottom drawer, pulling it open amidst the sound of her giggles.
"No!" She shouts, and Emily tries not to audibly laugh.
"I guess not," Aaron hums, "Maybe in Prentiss's bag?"
Emily brandishes her satchel, and there's no toddler inside. He shares a knowing grin with her as he fake-sighs, "No, not there either."
"Is she in Spencer's book?" You suggest, thumbing through the pages of the novel in his hands. He doesn't object, but his finger holds his place protectively.
"Mommy!" You hear Delilah giggle, "How would I be in the book?"
"We're not very good at this," You sigh, and Rossi agrees only semi-scathingly, "Aaron, I think we lost our baby!"
"Oh no," He gushes, reaching for your waist and thumping his head down onto your shoulder, "We lost her! My poor baby, all alone, no cookies to tide her over."
A tiny face peeks between JJ's ankles at the sound of cookies.
"I'll have to eat them all myself," Penelope laments, staring sadly down at the tin of Raspberry-filled hearts, "And no one will get little jam-covered fingerprints on my skirt."
A hand tugs on JJ's pants, and a strawberry candy is placed between two fingers mere seconds later. Then there's the crinkle of a wrapper, a tense silence, and...
"I'm here!" Delilah pops out unscathed, though her hair is a little messy, "I was hiding with Auntie JJ."
"You're here!" Aaron celebrates, crouching down as she runs into his arms, "Oh, my baby, I thought we'd lost you forever!"
"I wasn't lost! I was having candy," She bares her teeth, the pink sugar pinched between them. Then, as an afterthought, she takes it out of her mouth, holding it up enticingly to her father, who cranes his neck backwards slightly out of apprehension, "You wanna try it, Daddy? It's really good."
"No thanks, honey." He smiles kindly, though he cringes slightly when she pops it back into her mouth, wiping her sticky fingers on his suit jacket, "You enjoy it."
Rossi has the decency to only look mildly nauseous. Reid, not so much. But it doesn't matter, because even if there's strawberry goop on his jacket, even if her mary janes are smearing muck on his shirt, even if she's gnawing on the candy so close to his ear that he feels it in his own teeth, her arms are around his neck, and a smile is on her face. She's safe and happy with her dad, and his life mission is to keep it that way.

Author’s note: Hey all! Some of you mentioned wanting to read Bear’s “In case I die” letter so I have provided it. Because of this, you do need to read ‘A Gun Amongst Daggers’ in order to read this oneshot because SPOILERS (at least until chapter 14…)
===
A knock at the door had Jake standing up from his bunk and hurrying to open it. He prayed for any news from Bug and the other Seals, that someone had eyes on Bear, that she was safe. That she had been smuggled back to Riyadh under the cover of darkness and was recuperating in the infirmary under F.A.K.'s watchful eye.
But no such luck.
Instead, Bug stood before him with a solemn look in her eyes. “Here,” she said softly. “Bear wrote this to you before we left for the mission. I had forgotten about it until just now, but this is for you.”
Jake swallowed hard, biting back tears as he took the blue envelope from her, doing his best to hold it as tenderly as he could. He didn’t want to crease the only thing that he had of Bear’s. Didn’t want to ruin the only thing that she had been able to physically give him, even after her disappearance. He would protect this letter and its contents with his life if he had too.
“Thanks,” Jake finally managed to say. It was a soft, sorrow-filled sound, one that had Bug reaching to squeeze his arm gently. “I…”
Bug smiled softly at him, her own mask down. She let him see her grief, her pain, all of it written in the furrows of her brows, the redness in her eyes, and the tear stains that hadn’t been fully wiped from her cheeks. Even her posture beheld suffering, stooped lower than she would ever walk, shoulders up like she was bracing for another blow, and Bug looked like the very mirror to Jake’s own stance.
Jake saw how her hand trembled slightly as she withdrew it from his arm. For all she was doing to remain strong for her team, she let it down around him. She showed him her vulnerable side so he knew that he wasn’t alone in his suffering, that there were others stuck in this limbo between grief and hope. Between pain and anger.
“You’re so welcome,” Bug told him as she let her hand drop back to her side. “And whatever Bear wrote to you, just know that I am here if you need to talk about it. Remember that you aren’t alone Jake. You are a part of her family now too, and we all grieve together.”
She paused, giving him a soft smile. “Bear wouldn’t want you to suffer alone.”
Those seven words slammed into his chest like bullets, leaving him gasping for breath under the heaviness in Bug’s words. They sat on his ribs, forcing him to relive the realization that she was gone over and over again. Those words dug deep, clawing their way through every pitiful defense he had built in an attempt to protect his soul from the bomb that had gone off in the middle of his life. Those words came with a moment of clarity, warping his fragile psyche into a memory that would live in him forever, a memory that would have him jolting up in the middle of the night time and time again no matter how much time had passed by.
It didn’t matter how strong Jake thought he was before all of this had happened because now he was left standing in the shambles of his life. The one thing, the one person that had captured him mind, body, and soul had vanished from his grasp in the time it took to blink.
“She wouldn’t want you to suffer alone.” Words that would haunt him forever now.
And Bear wouldn’t want that. She would want her team to come together, to mourn as a group, but he couldn’t face the Seals. Not yet. Not when he was still caught in his vulnerability. Not when Jake didn’t know whether Bear was dead or alive and he was torn between grieving her loss and fighting for her return. Split down the middle as Bear did exactly what she wouldn’t want for him. He was here with his team and her own as she was stuck, isolated and removed from her team, suffering alone.
She wouldn’t want him to hurt in silence, but her pain was ignored, drawn out in the name of some unknown cause. Whatever Bear was undergoing for saving him…
No.
He couldn’t think about that. He wouldn’t let himself think about how much she sacrificed in one order, Bear gave herself up for him.
Him, Jake Seresin. The man she called Flyboy while making fun of him after a failed attempt to flirt with her.
The man who now sat on his bed, staring at a blue envelope in his hands like it held the answers to the secrets of the universe. Like it would speak to him and tell him that everything would be alright if he only wished and prayed hard enough.
Struck suddenly by his desire to get close to her once more, Jake ripped open the envelope, swallowing thickly at the words crawled on the back. “If you’re reading this, I’m sorry.” He pulled out two folded pieces of paper free, covered in Bear’s small but tidy writing and filled them both in blue pen.
This was a small part of her that Jake got to keep for himself and only for himself.
Jake, the letter began.
It seems kind of strange to be writing this letter to you, especially since we are talking nearly everyday, but I wouldn’t feel good if I didn’t leave you a note. If no one has told you, I write letters to my team before any big operation in the event that something goes wrong. Not that it will, but for my own peace of mind, this is something I have to do.
You should know that I consider you as more than a friend, a very good one at that and it would feel weird not to give you a letter of your own, like I would give Bug, Fireball, or any of the others. But I’m also writing this for another purpose, and it’s only in your letter, no one else’s. So please, if anything happens, do not show this letter to anyone you don’t trust 100% with this information. If you are in public, I would recommend moving somewhere else first, and then continuing.
Only because I know how reactive your face and eyes can be, even when you try to hide it. I remember the night on the fire escape vividly, but that’s for another time.
He paused, the statement was so like Bear that it stunned him momentarily. Her words were the only thing left of her’s that he could carry with him and yet, here he was, sniffling back tears like a little boy who had lost his family at the park. Jake had to wonder at the crossed out words, some hidden thought that she couldn’t bring herself to share, even as she wrote a letter to prepare him for the silence that had taken over the shape of her in his life.
I think someone in my team is trying to sabotage me and this operation. Things have been happening as time has gone on and the more things that start going sideways, the more I am convinced of foul play and sabotage.
My computer has been glitching a lot lately. I know that sounds dumb, but it’s true. Certain keys are sticking when they didn’t before, one time passwords are being saved even if I didn’t approve them, and I’m worried that someone has accessed it without my knowledge. I’m also missing emails containing information required for the successful undertaking of Operation Hellfire as well as issues with my military ID and accessing heavily encrypted networks and government servers.
Now, this may all be nothing but, and I shouldn’t even be telling you this because you don’t have the clearance, there have been multiple attacks and deaths of friendlies in the area. Stealth teams roving through homes of translators, local informants and the like, killing them and their families. These identities were never revealed to anyone as they spoke directly to myself and Flare.
What the fuck? Jake paused, rereading the last two lines over and over. Stealth teams? Murder? Just how deep did this go? Who was the man that Bear and her team had been ordered to kill? He had known that Bear had only told them the least amount of information she could, only giving them a basic summary of her team’s targets but this was too much.
It didn’t make sense to him. None of it did. Not while his stitches itched like crazy and his head heart from crying, yet he knew that this letter was worth killing for.
But who?
Speaking of our first formal briefing about this joint operation, there were drone issues if you recall. Flare did some digging and found that the team sent out to do the imaging of the compounds were ambushed and killed, the drone destroyed. We only have those partials because of the direct upload of imaging to a secure network and we are, by all intents and purposes, flying blind here. My team is placing their trust in me unconditionally, but how can I lead effectively if I don’t trust my team? Especially if people are actively plotting our failure.
I’m worried, Jake. I don’t know how I can send my team and you and your team out on this mission when I am doubting the integrity of both this mission and the people going out to complete it. I’m scared that something will happen to our air support even though I have no information to back this up.
In the event that something does happen, please take this letter to Bug if you feel you can trust her. She will be named interim Commander in my death or disappearance, so she will be granted access to my notes and files regarding some of these issues that you know nothing about because this letter doesn’t exist.
Personally, I felt that you would be the hardest to say goodbye to. Everything that has transpired over the last few weeks feels like a dream, you are somehow everything that I want the kind of man that I would really like getting to know better. And if that is unreciprocated, then just ignore this and the rest of the letter.
You have been the best part of working with the Daggers. Your wit and how curious you are about my job is endearing and I am so happy that we had the chance to connect further a few nights ago and chat about our lives. I wish we could act on the pull that we both clearly feel towards the other. I wish I could do more than give you a kind smile or a handshake before leaving for this mission. You don’t know how many times during our conversations I have wanted to… not that that matters. If I come back safely, you won’t be reading these words anyhow. Yet if I don’t… well, Flyboy, just know that you mean a lot to me and you always will, regardless of what comes of this mission.
Damn. That got heavy, sorry about that. On the topic of our conversation, I won’t forget that dinosaur question anytime soon by the way. I might have to start using it myself if it starts up a conversation as well as it did for us.
A wet chuckle escaped him at the mention of dinosaurs. He had been so nervous that night on the fire escape that he had blurted out the first question that came to mind and it happened to be the one his niece, Lucy, asked every adult she met. Jake had cringed so hard as the words left him, but apart from being surprised for barely a moment, Bear had taken it in stride and answered it like it was a question about her own survival.
The light had come back into her eyes and the memory of Bear in the sunlight the day of the mission choked him, forcing tears back to the surface and Jake couldn’t dam them up fast enough.
I do have to ask again, why did you call me Teddy way back when? Is it because you were trying to be witty and get back at me for teasing you in front of your colleagues, or is it because you were trying to tell me that you weren’t scared of me? Either way, it’s grown on me, Flyboy. It won’t become my new nickname by any means but who knows? Being labeled “Teddy Bear” while being a Navy Commander is a little strange, yet it might work at convincing those that I’m nicer than I am in actuality.
I really love being your friend and I am thankful that we got the chance to work together. You and your colleagues are very skilled at what they do and it’s a pleasure serving and working with them.
All of this being said, I know that if Bug hands you this letter, I won’t be there to comfort you nor see your reaction to my words. But I want to leave you with these words in the event that I don’t get the chance to say them to you in person.
If I am truly gone, remember me fondly, Jake. Remember this letter and every minute spent together because I will treasure every second with you for as long as my heart beats. Fight to avenge my death because we both know that I didn’t go down without a fight. And if I am MIA, root out those spies and make them pay the way I would have. Work with Bug, with Fireball, Flare and find the fuckers that caused this so you can lay me to rest in peace, both yours and mine.
I will remember you always, Flyboy and I will fight to come back so that you never have to read this.
Your friend,
Teddy
A tear splashed against the blue ink, smearing it along the paper as it soaked up the grief and pain imbued in the tiny drop of salt water. Another joined it, and another. Tears falling like drops in a puddle over the last part of Bear Jake would ever have, the only part he would ever hold.
Setting the papers aside with as much tenderness as he could muster in his shaking hands, Jake curled in on himself, crying silently as he replayed her words in his head. “I will fight to come back so you never have to read this.”
But he had read it, devoured every word like it held her heart, her deepest feelings, and while it held some of those, Jake wanted more and he cursed himself for his greed. Bear had written to him her darkest fears, confiding in him her worries and feelings towards both the mission and himself.
“Why’d you have to go?” He murmured through his tears. “Why did you give yourself up for me? I didn’t deserve it, Teddy.”
In the back of his head came a voice so familiar that Jake nearly turned around to see if she was there. “You deserved to be safe, Jake,” the mental version of Bear told him. “If I didn’t give myself up, you would have died.”
“But why?”
“You know why.”
If Jake had bothered to look under the feelings lodged in his heart, he might have seen just how much he had given to Bear without knowing. He had handed his entire heart to her, pushing it into her hands, not taking no for an answer. Jake had chosen her and given himself up to her in the hopes that she would feel the same. He longed to get to know her, longed for the kindness in her eyes to shift into something more when she looked at him.
Every part of him hurt. His heart ached with unhandled grief, his leg and ribs burning and throbbing with a pain Jake had learned to live with over the weeks. It had lessened as time went on, but it always felt worse when his mind inevitably wandered over to the corner that Bear had taken up like it throbbed in time with the clock ticking away the seconds she was gone.
A phantom pain in its own disordered way. Except it was a person missing as opposed to a limb, and deep down, Jake found himself begging for a way out of the hurt. Begging and pleading with every cell that made him up, trying desperately to transfer what strength he had left to Bear so she could use it to fight back if she still could.
And if that wasn’t a kick to the head. “Pull yourself together,” Jake mumbled, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes. Golden ribbons of light danced under the pressure and he grappled with his tears, fighting them back, and trying to control himself. The weight of his grief was too much, the pain too heavy and Jake tried in vain to push it back behind the curtain. Now was not the time for these uncomfortable feelings.
But no matter how hard he tried, Jake was overcome with wave after wave of tears, wrestling with it like it were a physical monster. He’d nearly succeeded just as a knock sounded at his door. “Comin-g,” Jake called out, hating how his voice cracked under the weight of his emotions.
It was Phoenix and Bob standing outside, holding papers of their own. They both looked ready to badger him for answers until they saw his face. Phoenix took one look at him and immediately rushed forward to hug him as tight as his ribs could tolerate. That was enough for the floodgates to open again and Jake found himself pulling away from his teammate and fleeing back to his bunk, not caring if they saw the tears streaming down his face.
“Jake…” Bob said softly as he approached, bending to sit next to him, placing a hand on Jake’s shoulder. He was there. Jake wouldn’t be alone as long as that hand stayed where it was. Phoenix had crouched in front of him, looking up at his downward gaze.
“We are here. I know it’s not any consolation, or what you wanted, but I hope that it’s enough,” Natasha told him. Her tone was much the same as it had been days ago when the news of Bear’s disappearance had been made known to him. She had approached him the way you would approach a wounded animal, caution in every movement, her voice quiet.
And Jake felt like an animal caught in a trap. Pain and panic swirling through his body like a tempest in a bottle close to breaking, all the while the only thing he could think of was “Help me. Get me out of here. I can’t do this alone anymore.”
“Jake?” Bob’s voice now, from behind him. “Listen to my voice. Okay? I need you to take a breath for me, okay?”
He nodded, shoulders shaking as he drew in a wobbly breath. It wasn’t until now that Jake realized that his lungs were screaming for air, deprived of oxygen for too long. “That’s what a loss like this would do to you”, that unhelpful voice in his head told him. “It makes you forget everything but the pain. Even breathing.”
Jake let himself follow Bob’s gentle tone, let himself feel the weight of Nat’s hands on his knees. He tried to ground himself, tried to distance himself from the pain that had ripped his chest open and grasped at air in the place where his heart had been before he’d handed it to Bear without a second thought. And it did lessen with every thought that he had of seeking justice for her.
Justice. Well, he couldn’t do it alone and the letter did say that he could share if he trusted them implicitly… “Guys?” Jake said in a wet voice, tears still dotting his cheeks. “I have something that I need to share with you.”

Rolo - oneshot.
"Oh my God, this reads like Stephen King…"
"Will you please be quiet? I'm trying to watch tv—"
"Oh stop, you can watch the A-Team any time. Now listen to this, a 'show' is the act of the mucus plug that seals the opening of the cervix, falling out as either a blob or smaller pieces of pinkish jelly—" she threw the spoon she was holding back into her pot of yoghurt.
"Henry shut up, I don't want to hear this while I'm eating!"
"It looks a bit like that apparently," he pointed to the pot in her hand, much to her chagrin. "It signals the start of the cervix beginning to soften and thin ready for labour, though this can take anywhere from an hour to several days to begin…" She hoped Henry was finally finished and tentatively took another mouthful of yoghurt. "Sometimes the colour of the plug is red or brown—"
"Henry, stop it!"
"What? I'm just trying to share with you the miracle of creation!"
"No you're not, you're being an annoying little shit because I had the last yoghurt and you don't want to let me enjoy it!"
"Don't be ridiculous, we've got our first scan coming up soon, don't you want me to be prepared?"
"Henry, it's not a fucking quiz, and anyway, it's me who has to answer any questions, not you!"
"Well, excuse me for wanting to be ready just in case, God most women would give anything for their husbands to be this involved!"
"Henry, why is it you need to know about the 'show,' or anything else that happens at that point in labour? You're not the one delivering the baby!"
"Well, who knows? You could go into labour on the bathroom floor and the paramedics might not make it to the house in time, we are a bit out in the sticks here."
"That won't happen, most women have to be induced—"
"What does that mean? Hang on let me look it up," he flipped further ahead in the baby book. "Ah, induction means to bring on the start of labour artificially. Before this is done, a membrane sweep is performed first. This involves a midwife or doctor sweeping their finger around the cervix via internal examination. This should help separate the amniotic sac surrounding the baby from the cervix—"
"Henry, I'm really getting annoyed with you now!"
"What? This is fascinating! To continue—" she gritted her teeth.
"If labour does not then occur, an induction will be offered next. This procedure involves the insertion of a pessary or gel into the vagina. If contractions do not begin after six hours, a further tablet or dose of gel will be used. Please be aware that induced labour is usually more painful and can require assistance via ventouse or forceps. What the hell's a ventouse?"
"Henry, I'm giving you until the count of five to put that book down. One—"
"A ventouse is a vacuum cup attached to your baby's head via suction—"
"Two—"
"It's pulled gently by the midwife or doctor to aid in delivery—"
"Three—"
"However, this method comes with several risks including a third or fourth-degree vaginal tear. This means the wall of the anus is ruptured—"
"Four, five! That's it, give me that right now!" She snatched the book from Henry's hands and chucked it aside.
"What the hell did you do that for?! We were just getting to an interesting bit!"
"Really, you find the instance of vaginal tearing even remotely interesting, do you?"
"Look, I have to learn about all of this otherwise I'll be clueless to help!"
"Is that right? And what help do you expect to be?"
"… Well, I can tell the doctor what it looked like before, it'll help him put everything back in place!"
"That's it, I'm going downstairs—"
"No, wait! I'm only joking, jeez lighten up will ya? I'm just trying to have a bit of fun!"
"Yeah, but it's easy to do that when you're not the one who has to give birth!"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I'm already shit scared about all of this without you telling me my rectum could be torn asunder!"
"Oh for God's sake, that isn't going to happen!"
"Oh yeah? How do you know?"
"Because I won't let anything like that happen, alright?"
"Henry you're not going to have that much control over the situation, neither of us will!"
"Well maybe not but at least I'll be there to advocate for you, and I'll make sure everything is done correctly. That's why I have to learn about each stage of delivery."
"Well, can you at least stop reading aloud? I honestly don't want to hear all the grisly details thanks very much!"
"It's not grisly! It's a beautiful process—"
"Henry, birth may be many things but it's hardly beautiful—" he ignored her and continued.
"Just think, you'll be able to squeeze a whole person out of an opening that's only a few centimetres wide! Well, actually your cervix has to be ten centimetres dilated before you can safely start to push."
"Oh, God help me…"
"What? I can't wait! Being able to watch my baby being born will be the happiest day of my life! Even if it also means having to watch my favourite place in the whole world become like a Stretch Armstrong…"
"What do you mean? You're not going at the goal end, are you?!" Henry snorted.
"Well of course! Otherwise, how do I know that it's actually ours and not one that they've swapped?"
"Henry, trust me, no one is going to take our baby. So you're really going to watch the whole thing? Even as I start to crown?"
"Wait, what does that mean?" He tried to reach for the baby book which was still resting at the bottom of the bed.
"Oh no you don't, I'm not hearing any more blow-by-blows of birth thanks very much."
"Fine! I'll just look it up on my phone."
"Yeah, you might not want to do that—" suddenly Henry shrieked aloud.
"Jesus bloody Christ! Did it have to show me pictures? God, it's like she's being ripped in half!" He held his phone up close to her face.
"I did tell you not to look it up! Anyway, you wanted to see it, are you still so keen now on watching it live?"
"Well, I had no idea it was that graphic! Christ, I hope I don't end up with performance issues…" Henry looked down plaintively at his crotch.
"Oh, typical, you have to make it all about you. Did you honestly think the baby just appeared? Like all I had to do was sneeze and out it popped?"
"Well no, but now I must admit I'm getting scared as well - me and all of my brothers were big babies, I don't think it's gunna be that easy…"
"Oh well great, thanks for warning me."
"What? I'm just being honest! You could end up having one of those record babies, you know like how you see on the internet?" She breathed in hard.
"Henry, if you do that to me I will actually never forgive you—"
"Well, it's not my fault! Weren't you a big baby as well?"
"No I bloody well wasn't!"
"Maybe that'll balance it out then, besides it's not like they can't stitch you up afterward!"
"Oh God, kill me…"
"What? I can always get you a little rubber ring to sit on!"
"Henry, if you don't button it right now—"
"They use stitches darling, buttons would hardly be appropriate—"
"Carry on sonny boy and you're gunna be the one who needs stitches!"
"Alright, alright. God, I was only trying to be helpful!"
"No you weren't, you were just trying to scare me!"
"No I wasn't, I would never do that! As I said, everything will be alright—"
"You don't know that! This will be my first time giving birth, literally anything could happen..."
"Well, I'm sure there are lots of things we can do to prepare. Just let me have my handy guide back—"
"No, you're not reading any more baby books!"
"Fine, I'll just consult Google then instead. Let's see, how do you prevent tearing during pregnancy?" She took a deep breath. "Ah, see here it says an ep-is-iot-omy, a cut made in the perineum, is performed to make the vaginal opening wider where necessary—"
"Right, I’m putting on my headphones—"
"This cut is typically made diagonally… wait so they don't just cut downwards? You know so it's like one big hole?"
"Oh bollocks, they're out of power!"
"Are you listening to me?!"
"I'm trying not to, no."
"Well you'll be glad to know there's also such thing as 'perineal massage—'"
"Oh, well that's a relief…"
"This can be performed from thirty-five weeks onwards as a useful tool to help prevent tears. It even says I can perform the massage for you—"
"Yeah, no thanks."
"Well, what do you expect me to do then? Just wait outside and leave you in the delivery room all scared and alone?"
"You can stay here, in fact. I'm not sure I even want you in the building anymore…"
"Oh now come on, you know I was only trying to make you laugh talking about all this stuff!"
"Henry I don't need a bloody comedian, I need a birth partner who's gunna take it seriously and actually be useful—"
"Yeah and that's why I'll be right by your side, cheering you on, and you can scream and yell and hit me as many times as you want."
"Can I do that right now?" He gave her a mischievous smile.
"I tell you what, why don't we change the subject and try some birth positions instead? Look, you can even lay like this with your arse in the air," Henry kneeled on both legs and let his face fall into the pillow. "Actually, on second thoughts, it was this position that got you into this situation..." She choked on her cup of tea. "What about like this then," he jumped out of the bed and propped one leg up on the edge of it. "It's called the 'leg-up lunge,' really helps open up the pelvis apparently and relieve back pain," Henry looked over to see her holding her face in her hands. "Or you can just do this," he rolled onto his back and pulled back each leg with his hands. In doing so, he landed on the remote and accidentally changed the channel.
"Oh for fuck sake, Henry! It was just getting to a juicy bit!"
"Tell me about it, I need you to check how far along I am—"
"Henry, I really am starting to lose my patience!" She leaned between Henry's legs and tried to manoeuvre him off of the remote.
"Hey, it's me who's meant to push, not you!"
"Will you bloody stop it?! And move out of the sodding way—" she carried on rooting around, not seeing the bottle of water he'd quickly grabbed from the bedside table. Seconds later, a jet of water hit her face.
"OH NO, I THINK MY WATER JUST BROKE!!!"
"W-WHAT THE FUCK!!!" She coughed and spluttered while Henry collapsed into a pile of giggles. "That's it, I'm done." She scooched off the bed and headed for the door.
"WAIT, wait!" She stopped and turned round to face him. "You've still got water on your face—" she tried to storm off, only for Henry to catch her by the wrist.
"Get off me, you arch idiot. I'm so angry with you I could scream!"
"Oh now come on! I was just trying to give us a bit of practice. I don't want you to think you've wet yourself—"
"HENRY, THAT IS ENOUGH!"
"Mmmm... I love it when you get mad. Come on, let's have some fun—" he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
"You must be joking!"
"Well, what’s the harm? I've already knocked you up!"
"Henry—"
"And don't think I haven't noticed how big they're getting…" Henry pointed towards her chest.
"Listen to me you little turd, they're not the only things getting bigger. Very soon I'm going to be up to fifty pounds heavier, with an arse that could flatten even you - so don't piss me off!"
"... But I'll be able to hear you coming."
"Right, that's it! I'm sleeping downstairs. Seeing as this is all just some big joke to you—"
"Whoa, hang on, that's absolutely not the case. I'm sorry, alright? I was just trying to make you less worried about giving birth. Honestly, I don't care if you scream, cry, puke, or even shit everywhere—" her nostrils flared. "Take it easy! Come on, let's get to bed, all this stress isn't good for the baby." She batted his hand away and folded her arms almost as soon as she was back in bed. "Okay, so you don't want to lie on your back. That's probably for the best seeing as the baby could then shoot across the room if you push too hard... I wonder if that's ever actually happened? Lemme see." She snatched the phone away.
"Henry, this is your last warning—"
"Fine, fine. Can we talk names then?"
"Oh, but we can never agree! Everything you like, I hate! Besides your mum used up most of the decent boy's names…"
"Well, let's think, what about Jack?"
"See, I like Jack but it runs into your surname because of the ‘k’ sound at the end. So it sounds like one long name, 'JackCavill.'"
"Okay, well what about Jake?"
"That's the same problem."
"Alright then, Jacob?"
"Nah."
"Caleb?"
"Nah."
"Callum?"
"Callum Cavill? Isn't that a bit of a mouthful?"
"Okay well, let's park boys' names for a minute and try out girls' names instead. What about Amelie?"
"Nah, I don't want too many syllables."
"Okay, Amy?"
"Mmm, no I don't want anything too cutesy."
"Ugh, what about Olivia then? That way she can be named after you—"
"Except my name's not actually Olivia is it?"
"Well, it's still a nice name! Why don't you come up with some instead of just criticizing me?"
"Actually, I'd rather just sit here and watch my programme in peace, seeing as how you've robbed me of that opportunity for the last half an hour!"
"But we've got to come up with a shortlist of names, otherwise, we'll struggle nearer the time!"
"Well, my sister said it's sometimes better to wait. Often you pick a name and then find that it doesn't actually suit the baby at all."
"... How about Hollie?"
"Hollie?"
"Yeah, I mean, she'll be born around Christmas time and it's a nice combination of both our names."
"Mmm… maybe."
"… And for a boy, we could always have Rudolph." She sighed and switched the tv off so she could turn over and go to sleep.
"Hey, hang on, we're not done yet!"
"Henry, we've got months to decide and if it's okay with you, I'd like to get to sleep before I'm given any more reasons to have nightmares."
"Oh darling, there's really nothing to worry about. I mean, the chances of it having a conehead or a vestigial tail are actually very minor…"
"What the hell are you talking about now?!"
"Oh, didn't you know? When a baby is born its skull compresses so that it can squeeze its way out of the birth canal—"
"Okay, got it."
"But don't worry, it'll eventually round out in a few weeks—"
"That's good to know. Goodnight Henry."
"Wait! I haven't said goodnight to the baby!"
"Oh don't worry, they've been listening to you all evening and would now like some peace and quiet as well."
"Aww come on, roll back over so I can kiss them and you goodnight." She sighed and reluctantly turned onto her back. This was their new nightly routine and Henry wouldn't let her rest until he got to perform it. He scooted down slightly so he was level with her waist, and placed both hands gently on her stomach. He then lowered his head and spoke quietly.
"G'night bubba, Mummy and Daddy love you so, so much - only a few more weeks and we'll get to hear your heartbeat for the first time!"
"You know the lucky sod can't actually hear you just yet? It won't be able to until I'm at least eighteen weeks—"
"Will you please stop being such a spoilsport! And stop calling our baby 'it!' We at least need to come up with a placeholder name. Something sweet and memorable—"
"So that's a no to conehead then?" Henry clucked his tongue.
"Ignore her bubba, she's just cranky cos you're making her hormonal and retain water." She thumped him on the arm. "Ow! That hurt!"
"That wasn't me, that was my hormones…" Henry rolled his eyes. "And can you go get me some Rennies? I've got heartburn again."
"Hey, that's an idea, what about Rennie?"
"You want to name our baby after an anti-acid?"
"Well, can you come up with something better?" She considered it for a moment.
"How about Rolo? I mean that's the only thing I've been craving since I've been pregnant."
"Is it really a craving if you ate them lots before you were pregnant? And how come we can't name it after indigestion tablets but we can name it after your favourite chocolate?"
"Well, why not? I think Rolo's cute! It's about the size of one at the moment as well."
"Fine, although there's also the option of Henry Junior…" She gave him an annoyed look. "Alright, alright. Rolo it is. And don't worry, to me you'll always have a beautiful vagina—"
"Right, just for that, get your arse down those stairs and get me some Rolo's as well. Now, mister!"
"… Are you sure there's any left?" The look on her face made Henry shoot out of bed but not before he gave both her and her stomach a kiss.

QUICK FIX - Nebula x Reader
details: fluff oneshot , fem/nby reader. this is somewhat of an AU where nebula sticks around after yondu’s death for a bit
summary: you’re an electrical engineer temporarily hired by the guardians for ship repairs and general weapon tinkering. nebula’s cybernetic arm has been acting up a little lately, so it’s a good thing you’re around to help! if she’ll let you.
You never thought being on a spaceship for not even a month would drive you this insane.
A few weeks back, you got a request to stay on a ship for a little while to be around for emergency repairs, since this band of weirdos seemed to always be having emergencies. When you saw it was the Peter Quill who wanted to hire you, you immediately accepted. Who hasn’t heard of them! It isn’t every day you get to hang out with the Guardians of the freakin’ Galaxy, even if you were just the repair guy.
Unfortunately, the crew here was just as unstable as their ship. It was a wonder how they didn’t blow the whole thing up from impromptu ‘weapon tests’, which consisted of the guardians firing blasters at each other in some twisted game of tag. They were a little rowdy for your taste, but you all got on well enough.
Peter, despite his douchery, was actually a pretty normal guy. He even liked to joke and have fun like your friends back home. He cared a lot about his ship, which you found a little respect in. He’d instruct you on the problems, and you’d find a solution. That always earned you a high-five or a pat on the back. The others seemed to tolerate him, especially Gamora. Your interactions were short and sweet, but she was kind. You noticed her get a little looser whenever Quill was around. It was gross in a sweet way.
On the other hand, Gamora’s sister was as far as you could get from social. She hasn’t said a word to you the entire time you were here. Sometimes you forgot she was even part of the team. On the rare occasions she’d leave her room, she was never around for long. You’d look at her as she passed by sometimes, wondering what she was like under her intimidating black eyes and cold shell.
You didn’t think about that for too long. You could tell her friendship had to be earned, like a wild animal that you had to let come to you. She seemed to be having a few problems lately. Technical difficulties. You heard from Rocket that her cybernetic arm [which you still think is insanely cool] has some problems shifting to weaponry mode. You wondered if she’d approach you about that.
Right now, you were fixing an airlock malfunction at the main port. It was having a problem with sealing properly after it closed. Yet another emergency. With oxygen escaping, and all that. At this point, you were used to all the high-pressure and near life-threatening circumstances. You just worked with your space visor on, which was coming in more and more handy these days. Everyone was in their respective rooms. You were alone out here at last!
There was one little problem though - your blowtorch was fresh out of juice. If only there were someone on this ship with a blowtorch arm modification! And if only it WORKED!!!
You exhaled through your nose at the thought of Nebula suddenly turning up to offer her help. It was the most unlikely thing in the galaxy, probably. No way that would happen. Just as you stood to go inform Quill about you issue, you nearly bumped directly into the girl you least expected to see.
“Ah- geez! You snuck up on me!!” You exclaim, surprised that she seemed to have indirectly read your thoughts. Nebula just looked at you, black eyes seeming to pierce right through you. You shivered. Looks like you had to do the talking. “Um. I’m trying to fix the air lock, but my blowtorch just ran out,” you explained, pulling the trigger to demonstrate. No flame came out. “...and last I checked, there’s no fuel for this on the ship. So, I kind of hit a dead end.”
Still, Nebula said nothing. For a moment, you wondered if she was even capable of speech. Then you heard a weird kind of… grinding sound. Both of your attentions drifted down to Nebula’s arm as it sparked and jittered in an odd way. She grunted, smacking it with her other hand. It sparked even harder, and eventually stopped moving altogether. She couldn’t even move her fingers. She let out a noise of rage, shaking the immobile part. You couldn’t hold in a little giggle. Her head snapped up to face you, and you instantly went silent.
“Is this funny to you?” Nebula demanded, voice deep and serious. You hadn’t heard her voice before. It was powerful and threatening. She meant business, and it felt like you wore pyjamas to the interview. You took a step backwards, a little worried for your own safety. She may not have a functional arm blaster, but she could still knock your lights out.
“No, no, sorry. Very serious.” You said quickly, avoiding her glare. She let out a short sigh, now more closely examining her malfunctioned part. You looked, too. If only she’d let you get in there, you could fix it… “You know, I could try and help you out with that.” You offered nervously, hoping she wouldn’t just turn around storm off.
“What makes you think I need your help?” The luphomoid snapped, jerking her head at you. You dropped your gaze a little. You kind of expected this reaction.
“Well, it’s just… it could be a little hard to repair one-handed, if you planned on doing it yourself.” You tried to reason. She looked at you, eyes narrowed like this was a trick.
“I’m perfectly capable of doing this on my own.” She told you firmly. You nodded, stepping back a little further in surrender.
“Right, understood. Just keep in mind I’m here if you ever need help.” You hoped she’d change her mind, but she wasn’t there with you yet. She just strode past you in the direction of her room, on her way to independently repair her own arm like the badass she is. You smiled to yourself, finding this cyborg a little silly. You crouched back down and decided to take a break. You’d continue in a little. And who knows? Maybe Nebula would change her mind.
Not even 15 minutes later, you heard footsteps heading in your direction. You looked up from the wrench you were adjusting to see Nebula had, as predicted, made a return. It seems she had no such luck in making the repair on her own. She was purposely avoiding looking at you, [working] fist clenched. She was embarrassed!! You decided to pretend like you weren’t expecting it.
“Oh? Back so soon? I would’ve thought you were going to fix your arm yourself!” You teased from where you sat, a little smug. “After all, you’re perfectly capable of doing it yourself.”
“Quiet!” She shouted, making you flinch. Okay, so Nebula’s not a fan of playful sarcasm. Noted. “You offered a service free of charge to me. I would be a fool to decline it.” You looked up at her, nodding in agreement.
“Yeah, that’s true. Glad you came to your senses.” Carefully, like you were trying not to spook a feral creature, you stood. “I knew you couldn’t resist me.” You joked, and Nebula scoffed. She tried to roll her eyes, though it wasn’t exactly noticeable.
“Just do your job.” She spoke bluntly. You offered a smile and started to reach for her arm so you could examine it. She instantly jerked back and you retracted your hand.
“Well, I kind of can’t if you won’t let me see what’s up.” You tried to explain. Nebula’s eyes darted between your eyes and your hand, and she relaxed her shoulders just a little, almost an apologetic look drifting over her face before it was replaced with her signature cold neutrality. Slowly, she approached you and raised her arm, almost defensively. You cautiously reached out and started feeling for some sort of seam where a section could be unscrewed, but this was an odd piece of machinery. It was segmented in a lot of different ways in a lot of different places, so you weren’t really sure how to get a peek inside.
Nebula seemed to notice your confusion, so she sighed and rotated her arm so that her palm was facing upwards. On the underside, you saw a larger rectangle that stood out a bit from the rest of the metal. You quickly bent to collect a tool from your set, then stood to pry the covering off. And wow, was it even more complicated on the inside. You were used to things like this, though. Artificial automation is your jam. It didn’t take long to find the issue.
“Found your problem! Your hydraulic springs have popped out a little. I’m guessing these are what enable your arm to transition so smoothly to different physical states. If these springs undergo a lot of winding up then unwinding in a rapid manner, they can accidentally pop loose and you have to reset them.” You explained, motioning to the issue as you described it. Nebula watched intently as you spoke. “And as for the lack of movement, one of your circuits got tripped. Too much power started flowing through it, I’m guessing when you tried to force your arm to shift. Maybe don’t do that again, for future reference.”
“I see. Can you fix it?” She demanded rather than asked. You went down again to get another tool, returning with a thumbs up upon standing upright again.
“I sure can. This won’t take long,” you went quiet as you went into focus mode, recoiling the spring and even tightening a few loose bolts in other areas. You flipped a breaker off and back on again, and her arm jolted back to life. After applying a little mechanical lubricant, you closed her arm back up. “All clear!”
You confirmed you were done with a little finger-gun motion. Nebula looked at you, then flexed her fingers, which all responded accordingly. Her eyes snapped back up at you in disbelief, and you grinned.
“What did I tell you? I’m good at what I do.” You decided to toot your own horn just a little. But now it was time for the real test. Could her arm shift successfully? The panels and segments started to shift around and change, rounding where her hand was into a little cylinder-like structure. She twitched, and a small, blue flame sprouted from the tip. You looked up at her with wide eyes.
“You were trying to help me this whole time..?” You asked, stunned. She looked away from you, like she was checking if anyone else was near. The coast was clear.
“Guess we’re even.” Nebula said in a different tone that her previous harsh words. Your face crackled into a smile.
“Aw, thanks Neb-”
“If you let anyone one know I won’t hesitate to throw you into space myself. Understood?” She glared directly into your soul, making sure you knew she was serious. But you didn’t feel so threatened anymore. You kept smiling.
“Understood.”

Warnings: briefly implied non-con, off-screen torture
Ugh. What happened? The team… the warehouse… the explosion…
Oh god, the explosion!
Hero bolted upright, his head throbbing. He groaned, screwing his eyes shut. He fumbled for his lamp. But there was no lamp.
He opened his eyes.
He wasn’t in his bedroom at home base.
He was in a dim cell.
Hero was in a dim cell, stripped of all his equipment and chained to a stone wall. In Supervillain’s base.
Fuck.
Steps echoed down the hall.
But instead of Supervillain, a small-framed man limped down the hall with a tray. He looked… vaguely familiar. Or maybe it was a concussion talking.
The man turned to unlock his cell. It was a hand scan opener, which was interesting. Very classy.
He definitely had a concussion.
The man had dark eyebags and even darker hair. He looked like shit, a bruise on his face and his eyes dull. They were purple, so he must be Powered. Still, somewhat familiar.
“Hey,” said Hero, as the man sat down the tray, “Do I know you?”
The man shrugged. He shook two pills from a bottle, and offered them to Hero.
He eyed them. “What are they?”
“Painkillers,” he said, voice hoarse. “Master wants you to take them.”
“Master? You mean Supervillain.”
“Mhm.” He jostled the painkillers in his palm. What the hell? Supervillain was involved, he didn’t have a choice.
He took the pills, and the man handed him a bottle of water. Thank god.
“Are you two enjoying your reunion?” Hero jumped at the voice. He looked up, and Supervillain was just inside the cell, smirking that horrible grin at them.
The man stood up with the tray, eyes downcast. He moved to stand next to Supervillain, who placed a hand on the back of his neck.
“Reunion?”
“Aw, you don’t remember? Little Laith? Of course, he’s just my dog now. Speak, pup.”
“Woof,” said the man, staring at the floor.
What?
Laith was a snarky, arrogant thief, Hero’s first Powered arrest nearly a decade ago. He could literally disappear into shadows, and occasionally teleport through them. What did Supervillain do to make him so… lifeless?
“I- I thought he was in prison.”
“Anything’s possible when you grease a few palms, sweetheart.” Laith flinched.
“You two have fun.” Supervillain pushed off the wall, waving them off. Hero watched him go.
“Laith?”
“Hm?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Oh.”
“If- If I knew you’d end up here- I wouldn’t have arrested you.”
“It’s okay.” Laith turned and left, sealing the door behind him.
___________________
“My team will come for me,” he panted. His entire body was an open wound, pain searing into his nerves.
“No they won’t, sweetheart.”
“Of course they will, there’s a tracker in my equipment, genius,” he spat.
Supervillain laughed. “You mean the one I had my pup plant on the body in your place? You’re dead, my dear, and all those gadgets are in my hands to study.”
“What- that’s not-” his head spun. Supervillain lit up a cigarette, as if he was enjoying a smoke after getting laid instead of after a torture session.
“Including your comlink. Congratulations on helping me take down your team, Hero. I’m sure you’ll see them soon. You’ll be cell neighbors! How fun.”
___________________
There was a commotion down the hall. Hero peered out past the bars. There was a yelp and a firm voice, but he couldn’t make out the words. Eventually the figures came into view.
Supervillain was dragging Laith by the hair, his heeled boots stomping across the stone floor. Hero shrank away from the sight.
Supervillain tossed Laith into the cell across from him, which had to be on purpose. But he didn’t stop there, pulling out a remote and a cattle prod. Supervillain pressed a button, and the hallway and cells lit up with floodlights.
They drowned out any possible shadows Laith could disappear into. Hero had used the same technique to catch Laith all those years ago. He felt sick watching his own strategy used for torture.
Supervillain pocketed the remote, and the cattle prod sparked.
Oh god.
“My dear pup,” he sighed, “you were doing so well.”
“Please, Master,” begged Laith, “I’m sorry!”
It was the most energetic he had heard Laith in the week he spent in this hell hole. And it was spent begging Supervillain for mercy.
Hero screwed his eyes shut and covered his ears. It didn’t help cover up the screaming.
___________________
Laith brought him lunch, after. Just like usual. As if nothing had happened. Laith trembled, the cup of water rattling on the tray.
“Remember when you disappeared just to taunt me when I chased you? You’d make some comment about how I was an idiot or looked like crap.”
Laith sat the tray down in front of him.
“I remember.”
“What did he do to you? You used to be stealing diamonds and Rembrandts and now you're helping that monster.”
Laith glanced behind him. He sat down next to Hero. He tapped at the black choker around his neck, but on inspection it wasn’t a choker at all.
It was a slim metal power-dampener, a model he’d never seen before. A red light blinked at him. The only bulky part was a small box on the side, and Hero knew what it was on sight. A shock component.
“You can’t leave, can you?” Laith shook his head.
“He hasn’t let me teleport for so long… I don’t know if I can anymore.” Laith was thin and ragged, bruises and burns up and down his face and arms. He shouldn’t be doing anything, much less using his abilities.
Hero didn’t have powers, he relied on his tech. Tech that Supervillain now had. He examined the collar. The lock was obviously in the shock component, and was a clear design flaw.
“I could get it off,” he said, “I’m sure of it. A minute with a piece of wire, and we could get out of here.”
Laith jerked away from him.
“It shocked me when I tired,” he said, despair in his voice. “I can’t take it off.”
“No I- we- could do it. C’mon Laith. You never hurt anyone back then, even when you could. Even when it was easier to than not. Don’t let Supervillain use you to murder innocent people.”
“I can't.”
“Please Laith,” be begged. “People are going to die.”
“He’ll kill me if I fail. Or worse.”
“How much worse can it get?”
___________________
Laith came to him a few days later, outside of the normal meal time.
He opened his palm to reveal a paperclip.
“We don’t have much time,” he said, tilting his neck. “He’ll know I opened your door, and he’ll know once it’s off.” Hero set to work.
“What made you change your mind?”
“I- he- he made me have sex with him again.”
“What?” Hero paused.
“Just work!” he snapped.
“What about my com?”
“What about it?” hissed Laith.
“Supervillain can’t have it.”
“It’s in the office, but-” the collar sparked, and he gasped in pain.
“Sorry!”
“-I don’t know if I have two teleports in me,” finished Laith.
“Okay, fine, we’ll just tell the team when we get back.”
“Wha- ‘we’?!”
The collar popped off, but they didn’t have time to celebrate before the hall lit up in floodlights.
Shit.
“Uh oh,” came a voice over the loudspeakers, “did my little doggy forget his collar?”
Laith whimpered.
“Laith! Focus!” said Hero, grabbing his arm.
“There’s- there’s nowhere to go! I can’t-” Laith gasped for air, hyperventilating.
Hero searched around. Surely there was something the floodlights couldn’t reach. But the whole place must have been designed around it, because-
The collar lay on the floor, casting a tiny shadow.
“Laith, look!” His face lit up, as if he was seeing water in the desert. Laith grabbed Hero’s hand and reached into the sliver of shade.
A coldness overcame them both, and Hero immediately felt nauseous.
They landed in an office, clearly Supervillain’s. Laith snatched something small and white off the desk, and they were off again.
They wound up in the middle of an empty lot of overgrown grass.
“I thought,” panted Hero, doubling over. “You didn’t have two. Guess you’re still an adrenaline junkie.” he joked.
It was right up his alley, but Laith didn’t laugh.
Hero glanced over. Laith lay sprawled out, face down on the dry grass.
“Oh god,” Hero turned him over, and checked his pulse.
He was alive, barely, and still clutching the com.
Hero pulled Laith towards him, cradling him close. He put the com back in his ear. Thank god for secondary trackers.
“I need medical!” he shouted into the com.
“Hero?! You’re alive? Wha-” God, he’d never been so happy to hear that voice.
“Just get here, fast!”
Laith whimpered in his lap, twitching. His head lolled, and Hero shifted to support his neck.
“It’s gonna be okay, buddy. I promise, it’s gonna be okay.”

reborn au notes 2 self, chunin exam edition
on kushina: i want to write her as a badass, but in light of the recent minato oneshot, i've decided that while she is a badass, she was actively kept from the frontlines of the third shinobi war because oooh ahhh our precious jinchuriki!! so she's not actually like... very well known internationally. so what this means
both itachi and deidara are like "well if she was any good i would have heard of her" and then ideally both of them would have separate "oh god what the fuck what the fuck WHAT THE FUCK" moments because actually she has an OP bloodline limit, is a fuinjutsu master, and has insane chakra/stamina. and this is BEFORE you factor in the fox
iwa denies minato entrance for the chunin exam tournament despite it being traditional to host foreign kage because they're terrified of him planting a hiraishin seal. they're then iffy about letting his wife in with fuinjutsu supplies. but they too are like "well if she were worth knowing about, we'd have heard of her"
on kisame/mangetsu: i forgot i pitched the idea of kisame being there to babysit bby mangestu entering??? i think i'll keep this element. nothing i post on tumblr is "set in stone" but this change probably wouldn't affect the written pieces very much. so the tourament is
First round:
Tori vs Some Chump (opening match -- expected to be underwhelming and supposed to give people time to find their seats -- Tori finishes it in less than 30 seconds)
Itachi vs Kurotsuchi (Itachi wins)
Deidara vs Some Chump (Deidara wins)
Mangetsu vs Some Chump (Mangetsu wins)
Second round:
Tori vs Itachi (Itachi wins but in a complete reversal of her previous match, Tori draws it out)
Mangetsu vs Deidara (Deidara wins but the bloodline limit is ANNOYING)
Final: Itachi vs Deidara (Itachi wins)
i'm not 100% what mangetsu at 13's personality would be, but i like the cracky idea of of him having a weird little crush on tori. mostly because i think it would make both her and kisame like (INTERNAL ALARM BELLS GOING OFF) but also for plot reasons*
tori: idk what to do i've only ever had weirdos be attracted to me???
deidara: only weird-- tori he sneezed too hard and turned into a puddle. he IS a weirdo
*basically i'm toying with the idea of tori going SOBBING to mangetsu that iwa kidnapped her mentor, because kisame will report to kiri that they did this, but mangetsu's more emotional testimony will sell it to kiri. i decided with the piece i just posted that it makes more narrative sense for tori to pull herself together and make moves on a plan rather than waiting for deidara and itachi to solve it for her. so she's like: okay, im confident we can get to her, but how do we prevent a fourth war in the event iwa decides to claim WE attacked first? witness from another village. okay here i go~~
kisame has no personal stakes in doing anything about kushina or their mission so he's not going to physically help with that, but he does consider itachi his ally so he'll happily go and tell the mizukage that he was presented with strong evidence that iwa tried to hold the hokage's wife ransom after she and her team diligently obeyed all their stupid rules....?
on the hiraishin seal that the utano** clan picked up at the very beginning when tori was 4: originally i had the idea she'd use it to take down oto somehow. like she gets her hands on it and chucks it around until minato comes to check it out or something. but instead i decided it's better if she just figures that out on her own. although NOW i'm debating if she leaves the hiraishin seal out in the open in the hopes konoha comes ot check it out and take care of any degs for her. <3 the consequence of this is that she's on minato's radar before they ever meet, but i'm noooot sure i like this
either way i think i'm going to use it to very slowly foreshadow hiraishin!tori. but also maybe. out of spite, and because she spent a lot of time studying one when she was a kid.... she paints a couple hiraishin seals in iwa as payment. as a little treat <3
(this is NOT the most politically savvy move so even if minato privately thought it was funny, i think he's reprimand her. even when she's like "no i ARRANGED for kiri to back us up, they're not going to do anything because they CAN'T." but alternatively maybe she writes a note that she hid one.... can you find it? <3 <3 <3)
**i know i originally wrote it as "uta" but "utano" looks more like a name so i'm changing it lmao

Hello ☺️
I know you've done general Jim, jlaire, and troll dad Blinky headcanons, but do you have any specific to the new timeline and even beyond? I love all of your ask posts btw, such fantastic Au's and our hc generally almost always align!
Hi!
Thanks for your kind words ❤ ❤ ❤
My oldest headcanon about the new timeline exists since July, 21, 2021 (when I wrote this oneshot https://archiveofourown.org/works/32729335 ). This one is that Jim keeps the new amulet and Excalibur in the new timeline.
My other headcanons about the new timeline and beyond were build through the two and half years (a lot of stuff keeps expanding, to be honest).
So here's my really long post about the happy ending for everyone.
Jim has managed to make everything right in this timeline, even with some stuff he didn't predict (like Enrique was still kidnapped - it just happened on a different date).
Everyone in the new timelines has these odd hunches about things they experienced in the first timeline. Like Claire having some odd attraction to Jim, Blinky being fatherly to Jim, and Barbara getting random thoughts that Strickler might be inhuman. Toby has it the worst as he can't help but think that everything is not his adventure and that Jim would be a better hero.
Because of hunches both Claire and Barbara find out the truth way earlier.
However, Toby is the first who realize that Jim somehow knows about all the incoming events. Jim has no choice but to confess about the time travel. He keeps the details from everyone though, especially those that might cause complications.
Jim brings Douxie into the team before the final encounter with Bular. Claire requests Douxie to become her magic teacher once she joins and he agrees.
Aja, Krel, and Varvatos join once they arrive on Earth.
Draal lives. Vendel is injured but also survives.
Angor gets his soul back this time. He isn't happy with Strickler but decides to let it go per Jim's request.
Toby spares Bular (much to Jim's shock). Bular starts to live in Toby's house, trying to reconsider his ways. Initially, Draal watches his actions and they eventually become friends.
Morgana fails to possess Claire. She possesses Angor instead.
Strickler manages to convince some changelings to switch sides, so more changelings survive.
Jim doesn't allow Merlin to transform anyone into a half-troll. He shows Merlin Excalibur (leaving the latter speechless), so Merlin begrudgingly agrees to try Jim's plan first.
After Gunmar's death, Bular inherits Decimaar and uses it to liberate all the trolls his father controlled.
Jim and Claire talk Morgana into trying to give co-existence a second chance. She isn't convinced fully but agrees to wait.
The residents of the Trollmarket never go to New Jersey, which means that Aja and Krel have more people to help them.
Jim is deadset on never letting anyone be hit with an onyx shard. He ends up taking the hit for Claire - only to discover that it has no effect on him (as Excalibur cannot harm his owner and Jim is technically another owner because of the time paradox).
Merlin isn't happy to learn that the Green Knight is actually King Arthur. The same goes for Morgana, but she blames Merlin for her brother ending that way.
Merlin finally realizes that he has been too stubborn all the time, refusing to see other options. He uses all his magic to seal Bellroc and Skrael and entrusts Douxie with leading the new king of Camelot.
AND NOW TO BEYOND
Jim is technically the King of Camelot now, which makes him rather uncomfortable at first. However, with Douxie's encouragement, he realizes that more than an authority figure, he's King of knights, a noble protector of both humanity and magical beings, and the first among equals.
Claire continues with her magical studies, fully determined to prove that shadowmancy isn't always evil and can bring much good to this world. She consults a lot with Morgana, even though she still considers Douxie her teacher.
Toby is still this timeline's Trollhunter but lately, he mostly deals with small errands from Bagdwella and other trolls. He doesn't mind as it feels a lot like vacation after everything the team has gone through.
Blinky succeeds Vendel as the leader of Trollmarket. He thinks about bringing some reform to the Tribunal and some obsolete traditions, thinking that trolls should start a new page in their history.
Aaarrrgghh always helps Blinky in his endeavors, but he protects peace in Arcadia. He's much like a local celebrity and kids love him.
Mary and Darci start a blog about various magical creatures, trying to show humans that the supernatural isn't that harmful. Mary also tries to date a troll at some point. It doesn't work, but only because of personality differences, not because their species are too different.
Barbara returns to drawing. Strickler uses some of his connections to promote her art a bit. Surprisingly, Barbara's art becomes really popular.
After some consideration, Strickler opens the school where different creatures, aliens, and humans can exchange their culture. He takes over as a principal and also teaches human history. Blinky comes over for troll history lessons, and when Claire is older she starts to teach Human World Literature there.
Eli is still the Earth ambassador at Akiridion-5, he's rather popular there. Eli is also the one who proposes the start of technological exchange with the Earth. Due to his efforts, Earth's technical progress is busted tremendously.
Steve the head of New Camelot Knights. However, eventually, once he is sure that everything is peaceful on Earth, he moves to Akiridion-5 to support Aja and help Eli. Even though Steve is officially married to Aja, he isn't that accepted at Akiridion-5 as it is technically breaking traditions. This time Aja informs him about all the nuances of akiridion reproduction. They still have kids, but only once both ready and consented to that.
Aja has a lot of stuff to solve, dealing with all the consequences of her parents' rule. She brings in lots of reforms and eventually limits her own authority, taking over the role of the main Akiridion-5 protector, while leaving everything else to those more fitting for it.
Krel moves to Earth, becoming Akiridion-5 ambassador and trying to popularize interstellar travels and exchange. He also has a side career as DJ Kleb.
Varvatos retires and starts living with Nana. Toby calls him granpa, which he doesn't like.
Douxie and Zoe go on the world tour with ADP once the world destruction is prevented. Claire, Mary, and Darci join them as Mama Skull.
Douxie opens his own cafe together with Jim. While they both are co-owners, Douxie enjoys taking over as a waiter occasionally, while Jim often cooks. It's the place where every creature is welcome, and well the Guardians often use it as their gathering spot.
Nomura becomes the leader of changelings who wish to return to troll society. Draal helps her a lot to fight for acceptance and against prejudices. They claim each other as mates, which causes an uproar in some circles. Even though both claim to be disastrous parents, they are great once they have their own kids.
Vendel retires, fully enjoying his rest. He comes to give blinky advice occasionally, but he's mostly a grumpy grandpa for everyone at the Trollmarket.
Dictatious takes over the troll library, adding some stuff he learns.
Angor goes on a travel (for an atonement, as he claims). He's seen all over the world, fighting against slavery and injustice at night. Soon enough he becomes a kind of city legend, and a lot of criminals are scared of him.
Bular goes to the Darklands, fully intending to reform the Gumm-Gumm tribe and get rid of the stigma they have.
Barbara and Strickler have their planned wedding and adopt some of the changelings' familiars, including Strickler's and Nomura.
Ironically, despite Jim and Claire being sure of each other feelings, Toby and Darci have their wedding first. It's the final push that makes Claire propose to Jim.
Enrique grows up to be a party monster, much because of NotEnrique's influence. They both tend to start parties which only Jim can stop.
Zelda (Nomura's familiar) is a huge fan of classical music, so they both can chat about it for hours. No one else is able to follow.
Wallie (Strickler's familiar), however, finds history boring. He's more of an IT and Math kid and is extremely talented. Strickler tells him the truth about their connection, and Wallie goes to live with Jim for some time to sort out his feelings. He forgives Strickler after some time though.
The world keeps changing as humans and supernatural beings learn to co-exist. Trolls take over dangerous mining, trading some difficult-to-get minerals. Humans also realize that trolls can eat some waste, which creates new ways to save nature. Nari feels that it's the world she, Bellroc, and Skrael wished to have before giving up and hopes that one day the rest of the Arcane Order will be unsealed and admit they were wrong.

Hey, Mel! I don’t know what was going on with tumblr yesterday, but every time I tried to find your blog, it said it didn’t exist. 🙄 Stupid tumblr. 😒 Anyway, here is a list of my favorite Top Gun writers on here:
@discount-shades - She has two canon Jake series that are awesome and she just started a Jake Western AU (they’re all outlaws) that’s amazing so far.
@teacupsandtopgun - She has a phenomenal Jake x OC (Felicity March) that is sweet and spicy! She also has some gut-wrenching stories for Fanboy and Bob.
@topgun-imagines - She writes for both movies and her current Jake series is so heartbreakingly good!
@sometimesanalice - She mostly writes for Bradley and her Like I Can series is enough to make you swoon.
@desert-fern - She’s in the middle of a Jake series featuring a team of Navy Seals that enlist the Daggers’ help to take out a corrupt foreign power in the Middle East. Her Reader, Bear, is the commander of the Seal Team and she gives Jake sooo much shit! She also wrote a really sweet Fanboy oneshot about the Reader being completely overwhelmed with work and life and how amazingly sweet Mickey is about it. (It’s not quite a “sick” fic, but it is comforting)
@mayhemmanaged - She has two new series (both AUs) with Jake. One is being cowritten with @cassiemitchell about a group of vigilante women helping to protect abused women and all them are married to the men on the task force who are trying to catch them! May’s other story is about a dystopian society where Jake’s family are basically American royalty and he falls in love with a woman who isn’t “noble.”
@roosterforme - She has soooo many Bradley series. She also has some oneshots of Bradley, Jake, and Bob that are really good.
@tongue-like-a-razor - She is in the middle of two Jake series that I love. Less Talk and Brother’s Best Friend (Bradley’s little sister is the Reader in that one) they’re both slow burns which I love!
@startrekfangirl2233-writes - She’s in the middle of a kiss prompt challenge and has about a dozen one shots with the guys from both movies and different types of kisses. She also wrote a Bob oneshot that absolutely broke my heart!
@ohgodnotagainn - She’s in the middle of a coffee shop AU with Bob and the Daggers and it’s just so sweet and fluffy!
@beyondthesefourwalls - She’s writing a Bradley series about an ex-girlfriend that comes back into his life, but she’s got this creepy coworker that’s stalking her and making her life a living hell. It’s so good so far, and we’re only on Part 5!
@wkndwlff - She has some Bradley oneshots that are really good! The Sunday Scaries isn’t a “sick” fic, but Bradley is super comforting in that one.
@sylviebell - She just started a Bradley x Natasha series that seems like it’s going to be amazing! It’s a fake-dating, friends to lovers fic and those are some of my favorite fics!
@say-al0e - I’ve only read one of her fics, Home Run, but it’s a friends to lovers with Bradley that just blew me away.
@sweetwhispersofchaos - She writes Bob x Phoenix and I’ve only read one of her stories, Tomorrow, but it was so good I can’t wait to binge the rest of her masterlist.
I hope you find enjoy a few of the fics from these awesome ladies! BTW, I’ve got the sequel to That Part written and queued up for Tuesday. (I might have already told you that, but I can’t remember.) It’s a bit spicy, so be warned! 😏😏🔥🔥 It’s very music-centered and I’ve created a couple playlists that I’m going to post this weekend if you want to listen and set the mood for the story. ❤️
Becca!!! Oh my goodness!!! You are amazing beyond words!! I will check out all of these masterlists. I think I have browsed a few of them but I will dive deep into them all. I did find a sweet Bob x sick reader fic. Reader woke up with strep on their birthday. I had to giggle, only b/c my birthday is next week (27th) and if I wake up sick(er), I will not be happy. But, I’m feeling better. Everything seems to have moved from my head into my chest. I’d rather deal with a cough and not sore teeth and sinuses. Lol
I cannot wait to read part 2 of That Part!! Bring on the spice!! You’re awesome!! ❤️❤️🥰🥰
