HOW TO GET RID OF DARK CIRCLES & EYE BAGS
Anyone else feel me?!
Dark circles show just how tired you are. Although getting enough sleep is obviously the best way to fix that. It’s not always possible when we are busy or stressed. So let’s fake the fresh eyed look!
What are dark circles?
The skin under your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face, so it shows blood vessels more clearly which give the appearance of dark circles. This skin is called the ‘periorbital skin’ and on average is only 0.5mm thick compared to the 2mm thickness of the rest of the skin on your body.
A condition called ‘periorbital hyperpigmentation’ can also cause dark circles. This means that your body is producing more melanin in your under eyes and so making it look darker.
What causes dark circles?
Although dark circles can be caused by genetics, lifestyle factors can also play a part. This could be:
LACK OF SLEEP - This will make your eyes look more tired
DEHYDRATION - When your body is dehydrated it can cause puffiness and under eye bags
LACK OF SUN PROTECTION - UVA/UVB rays can cause your skin tone to look dull and uneven which increases the appearance of dark circles.
YOUR AGE - Your skin naturally gets thinner and looses its plumpness, which can make the skin around our eyes appear darker.
How to reduce the appearance of dark circles
No need to worry, with good skincare, you can gently reduce the appearance of dark circles!
1. GENTLY REMOVE MAKE-UP - The Camomile Gentle Eye Make- Up Remover is amazing for removing every last trace of make up and is specially formulated for sensitive skin. Your skin will be left feeling softer and gently cleansed. It is important to be gentle with your eye area as the skin is really thin. So a gently cleanser like this that removes make-up easily protects your delicate eye area.
2. APPLY AN EYE MASK - The Drops of Youth Bouncy Eye Mask has an instantly cooling feel that instantly refreshes your eyes. They will be left feeling refreshed and looking much healthier.
3. MOISTURISE DAILY - The Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Eye Cream is the perfect way to hydrate and refresh your eye area. Or try the Oils of Life Eye Cream Gel for a luxurious treat.
How to conceal dark circles
Not got time to work on those dark circles? Let’s conceal them instead! Here’s my top tips...
1. MOISTURISE - First make sure skin is soft and hydrated. This will prevent concealer from creasing under the eyes.
2. CHOOSE CONCEALER - Make sure your choose the right concealer for your skin tone. Are your dark circles blue, purple of grey? A peach based tone is the opposite on the colour wheel so will conceal these colours. Avoid going too light as it will only highlight imperfections.
3. USE YOUR FINGERS - Using your fingertips to dot the concealer under your eyes and tapping will allow the product to blend into your skin though your body heat. Remember that less is more. No one wants creases!
To further reduce the appearance of dark circles. Apply Lightening Touch Concealer to the inner and outer corners of your eyes and brow arch and blend lightly. This will make your eyes look bigger and brighter!
What are eye bags?
Eye bags are the mild swelling or puffiness under your eyes. This can happen due to age as the tissues and muscles around our eyes naturally weaken. As a result, the fat that helps support the eyes move can drop into the lower eyelids which makes them look puffy. A build up of fluid ca also be a cause of eye bags.
What causes eye bags?
Genetics and lifestyle factors can both play a role in eye bags. This are some of the common causes...
SALTY FOOD - Too much salt can cause our bodies to retain more fluid.
LACK OF SLEEP - If you get early nights and more lie ins, the appearance of eye bags will be greatly improved
ALLERGIES - Your skin can retain more fluid that usual when you suffer from allergies.
SMOKING - Smoking or being exposed to spoke can cause skin to look and feel less fresh and healthy.
How to reduce eye bags
Here are some of my top tips to reduce the appearance of eye bags...
1. COOL DOWN - Cooling your eyes will leave skin feeling and looking refreshed. You could do this by running a cloth under cold water and applying to the skin around your eyes for a few minutes using mild pressure.
2. REDUCE SALT - Reducing the amount of salt in your diet will reduce your fluid retention and so reduce your eye bags.
3. DON’T SMOKE - This will allow your skin to look more healthy and brighter.
4. TEA BAGS EYE MASK - Soak two tea bags and chill them in the fridge for a make shift eye mask. Leave on for 5 minutes and your skin will be soothed and the dark circles and bags will be reduced! This is due to something called ‘tannins’ in the tea bags.
5. ELEVATED SLEEP - If you sleep with your head slightly raised, it can help prevent fluid from accumulating around your eyes when you sleep
More tips and tricks to reduce the appearance of dark circles and eye bags
1. BE GENTLE - The skin around your eyes is delicate. Make sure to remove and apply make-up gently with products that care for your skin
2. LEAVE PHONES - Cutting down your screen time before bedtime can help your sleep. More sleep means more beautiful eyes. It’s called beauty sleep for a reason!
3. STAY HYDRATED - You need to drink at least 2 litres of water a day to keep your body working properly. This will mean that your skin can work properly and look healthy.
4. EAT WELL - Improving your diet by cutting down salt, sugar, fizzy drinks and alcohol will improve the appearance of your skin dramatically!
So lets get started on reducing our dark circles and eye bags! It is possible for us all to have brighter healthier eyes with a little effort... or you could just fake it ;)
See you soon!
