Synopsis: You've rediscovered your favorite movie, and with that comes lots of rambling. Sam doesn't mind much.

"I feel like... this is one of the few movies that do their book justice, you know?"

Sam looks up from the stove with a raised brow. It's been almost half an hour since the two of you finished watching The Outsiders, yet your enthusiasm hasn't wavered one bit since the moment she clicked play to the moment the end credits rolled (your tears, too, to Sam's secret amusement).

"Right," she says as she looks back to the spaghetti, more so to assure you she's still listening than anything else. Honestly, she's almost completely sure you wouldn't care if she wasn't.

"I mean, yeah, some people say it's not the best option, or, like... some aspects could be whatever, whatever, but it's good to me, though. You know?"

"Sure."

"Especially Johnny, I think. Like, Ralph was probably... one of, if not the best casting choice. He, like- he looks like a kicked puppy. Not saying that like- you know."

Sam lowers the heat on the stove, turning to grab the pesto sauce from the fridge. "I know, Y/n" she sighs as she opens the door, glancing in for a moment before reaching in and pulling out the pesto. She straightens up and turns back to the stove— and you, now that you've moved to lay half your body on the island— nudging the fridge door closed with her foot.

Sam opens the glass jar, dumping the remainder of the sauce into the pan unceremoniously. You watch with mild interest as you continue with your little analysis, or whatever it is you're doing. She has to admit, it is slightly endearing to see you so passionate about something, even a movie.

"I think people who still say the movie could have been better should remember the actual horrible movie adaptations out there. Like Avatar the Last Airbender," you say, tapping your hand on the island.

"I don't know what that is," Sam mumbles absently, stirring everything together, watching as meatballs disappear and spread out in the pan.

"It's something you never, ever wanna see, Sammy," you tell her matter-of-factly. Sam snorts.

"Anyways, those people are probably the same people who say the book didn't make sense in the first place. I didn't even know The Outsiders haters existed. Like, it... it makes sense. It does."

"Okay, Y/n, whatever you say," Sam says. She'll take your word for it. It was a good movie, she sort of sympathized with Darry. But she didn't really get into it the way you did.

"I mean, the whole movie is extremely symbolic, you know?"

"Uh..."

"I think it might be one of the best movie adaptations ever. I'll be honest, though, it's probably because the book was so good that the storyline does most of the work for the movie but..."

Sam looks up from the stove at you as you ramble on. She watches as you completely lose yourself in it, the way your eyes sort of light up and you have this little smirk whenever you get to a topic you especially enjoy. Sam leans forward on the counter.

After a long moment of you speaking with the absence of Sam's little hums of acknowledgement and 'sure's, you look up from the loose string on your shirt you'd been playing with, voice trailing off. You cock a brow at the look on Sam's face, something that makes her almost laugh.

"What?" you ask, confused. Sam just shakes her head and reaches over to turn off the stove, chuckling to herself. She turns away from you, making her way over to the cabinets where the plates are.

"Nothing," she says, though her tone is a little too amused for it to be nothing. You watch as she grabs two forks and brings it all back to the stove, piling both plates with generous amounts of spaghetti.

She puts a lid on the pan with the remaining spaghetti and carries the two plates to the table. She sets them down, in next to each other in front of your usual seats. You hop off of the island and take a seat in one of the chairs.

Sam settles herself in beside you and picks up her fork as you let out a little sigh.

"It looks good," you say, grabbing your fork as well. You use it to pick up some spaghetti, but when you lift it to your mouth you pause.

"You know what? I think if you watch the movie while you listen to the book it'd be a cool thing. 'Cause some parts will line up and you can see the stuff happening as it's being read, and stuff. Also, it's cool to see what's different."

You take a bite. Sam drops her gaze to her own plate and digs in. It's comfortably quiet for a moment. Your fork clatters against the table.

"I just feel like Johnny's death was such a necessary thing, like it was something we as an audience needed even though it broke our hearts, and— What?"

Sam sighs, though a soft smile takes over her features. She shakes her head, just looking at you for a moment.

"Eat your food, babe," she finally says, her smile still present as she looks back to her own food.

"Hi." You said simply, just to break the awkward silence. Kirk's attention snapped up to your eyes and he smiled at you, crooked teeth and all.

"Hi." He replied, trying to keep his tone normal. "What are you doing?" He asked, coming closer to you.

"Making a snack." You said, continuing to work on your food.

"In the dark?" You chewed your cheek before shrugging.

"Dark doesn't scare me." You said, then you thought for a moment. "Does it scare you?"

"What?" He asked, giving you a look like he was more scared you'd genuinely think that of him. "No, of course not, why would I be scared of the dark?"

You shrugged and sucked your teeth. "I don't know, you watch a lot of horror movies, you might've thought I was some kind of demon."

"Oh, totally." He said with a soft laughter. "You know, I thought you were actually Freddie Kreuger out to get me."

"Right, right, so you came to get me first?" You asked, brow raised at him.

Kirk's mouth opened to say something but he cut himself off. "What the hell are you making?" He asked, changing the subject.

You explained your midnight snack of choice, by that time Kirk got hungry and since you were talking about horror movies he suggested you watched one with him right then. Perfect conditions, middle of the night, everyone sleeping, and you had snacks. Really, there wasn't much too it.

He set up a movie while you got to work on popcorn.

When you came over to him he was all set up on the couch with a blanket and everything. There was tons of space, the whole rest of the couch and other chairs, hell, you could've sat on the floor if you wanted. But you had a plan, and you were going to stick to it.

You sat right beside Kirk, curling up to him. Hesitantly, he returned your little act of affection and held you to his side, squeezing you gently whenever something even remotely scary happened.

Since this is long, little summary of thoughts at the beginning. I didn't love the editing at the beginning, because it felt too fast paced/ too jumpy? But it changed in the second half and seeing the contrast in the editing of it being much slower during the emotional bit, it does make sense. I think the movie for sure did the performance justice and showing the audience interactions added a lot for me.

Also this show is so important on every level and I adore Dan so much for making it and being so proud of it.

“Nobara- again?”

“What? You can’t tell me this wouldn’t be cute on you!”

“But look at how expensive it is-“

“Which won’t be a problem for me.” Nobara threw the outfit on top of the growing pile in your arms. “Don’t you trust me?” She pouted.

“The puppy eyes won’t work on me.” This time.

“It was worth a shot.” Nobara shrugged her shoulders, already reaching the counter with the mountain of clothes. “But we’re still buying it.”

Even after all these years, Nobara’s shopping habit never changed- if anything it grew more. You haven’t seen her since you left the village, so bumping into her on a random trip to the cafe, it felt like it was fate.

She was still the same rambunctious girl that you fell for.

But there were some things you questioned.

Your parents always told you that it was rude to ask people how they got their money- unless they told you obviously- but you really wanted to ask her. She was obviously doing better for herself- skin glowing, bright smile, carefree attitude. This image was different from the teary eyed one you were left with, the promise to reunite fading away with time- but reignited with your reunion once again.

She made a career for herself, and you’re beyond proud of her, but made a career doing what? Whatever it was, it was enough to support her love of shopping and give you gifts. And man, were they expensive.

But maybe after leaving the village, she saved up a lot? It would be kinda surprising with how much she splurges, but you’re also older now- people do change after all.

But the matching bracelets she bought you had to cost at least 6 months of rent. Add that with the new outfits, the meals together- you felt bad, honestly. Nobara’s a hard worker, and she works to get what she wants- you don’t want to leech off of her.

“Dummy- who said you’re leeching?” She flicked your forehead. “I’m doing this cause I want to.”

“But still-“

“You’re not using me (Y/N), so don’t even say it.” Nobara’s eyes never left you as she reached for your hand. “I just wanna make up for lost time, alright?”

Your eyes could be deceiving you, but you swear the tips of her eyes were turning red. But you couldn’t help but smile and squeeze her hand in return. You did have a lot to make up for.

There would be some moments where you would pay, and she wouldn’t mind- it kinda became like a contest of who could whip out their card the fastest. It became a running thing between you, and it reminded you of your time back in the village together.

You couldn’t afford everything that she could, but she still squealed and tackled you every time you bought her a small gift.

Everything all started to make sense when she invited you over to her apartment, wanting to talk in person about something- she didn’t go into much detail. When she gave you the address, you were expecting a rather basic apartment-

Not a pent house!

You don’t think your mouth could have dropped any faster at the sight- you felt blinded by how lavish it was. You felt like you were on a set of a movie, gazing down at the string of city lights across the sky. Was this real life?

And everything finally clicked when you sat down on her balcony together, glancing at a magazine thrown across the table, seeing Nobara’s figure on the cover of Jujutsu Tech-

…wait a second.

Jujutsu Tech? The Jujutsu Tech? One of the most famous businesses in Japan and international wise?

“You work for Jujutsu Tech?!”

“I’m…one of the board members. When I left home, it was because I got a job offer from one of the CEOs.” The CEO?!

Your brain was overloading at this point.

“But that wasn’t what I wanted to take to you about.” There has rarely been a moment where you would ever see Nobara Kugisaki’s guard let down. To see her walls crumbling like this had you worried, but in a weird sense relieved that she felt comfort around you to do so.

“Look, I have to move.”

And then that shattered what little relief you did have.

“What? Why? Is everything-“

“Yeah, everything’s fine. That prick Gojo just wants to cause more problems for me.” Nobara cursed under her breath.

You’re still trying to take everything in, but your heart is throbbing from her words. It seemed as if you just got her back, and now you’re going to lose her again?

Sure, you can always video chat and do late night calls, but it’s not going to be the same. You won’t be able to see her smile in person, or to have her pull you along to the nearest mall. You’ll be separated again, and who knows if you’ll ever be able to be together again?

“But- I told him I’m not going unless you’re going with me!”

“W-what? Wait…are you asking-“

“I promised we’ll be together in Tokyo one day right?” Her smile was soft, and there were no doubt in her words.

To move in with Nobara, to Tokyo of all places? The very place you promised to reunited all those years ago- was it really going to come true?

“There’s no way I’m going without you. And if anyone has a problem, they can-“

Now you were the one doing the tackling, hugging her tight, cackling and squealing in her chest. “Of course I’ll go with you! Ahh there’s so much we have to do- wait I have to pack! And tell my boss, and my landlord- I can’t believe this is really happening!”

As you started to ramble on excitedly about the new change, Nobara couldn’t contain her own as she laughed and squeezed you back- she couldn’t wait for your new future together.

“Tokyo here we come!”

AGHH okay so I picked up where I left off on LDA but once again I am foiled by the calls of sleep except this time it's actually 2am and I have to be up at a decent time tomorrow to pack BUT ITS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR ME TO UPDATE YOU ON MY INNER THOUGHTS AS I WAS READING (and I've currently made it to where there are only 3 more chapters till I'm caught up - by the way, this has LDA spoilers for those of you who haven't read/aren't very far). When I was reading I kept hope and hope and hoping that Izanami had some connection to Izana and then it was CONFIRMED and my heart did a little happy dance. And this is super general but the slow burn childhood friends to lover is absolutely healing every single inch of me (despite all the pain in the fic itself...) because those are two of my most favorite tropes ever combined into one. AND UHHHH... the communication you have going on between the characters is MWUAH <333 I've been living for the way Ran and Rin and y/n sit down and talk things out after stuff happens. Like sure it takes a while and there's lots of pain beforehand but THE REPRESENTATION OF IT IS PERFECT. Like especially in the last chapter I read, I think it was chapter 11, but they communicate so well in the past scenes and like air out everything that might bother them, and then in the present scenes the same things happen EXCEPT you acknowledged the fact that their hurt wouldn't be gone yet after something as simple as a conversation. AND THAT JUST. IT'S REALLY SO AMAZING ACTUALLY. Because its something so small that gets taken for granted wayyy too often to the point that I never see it in fics, rarely see it in books/movies/shows, and its like a unicorn irl. It's honestly healing and refreshing to see as someone who struggles with communication. That's all for my comments for now and like I said the first time I popped into your asks you're doing so wonderfully and your works are honestly so freaking amazing and just YES you're amazing okay goodbye it's time for me to sleep now <333
