Working in retail sucks absolute ass but the only thing that keeps me going is going home at the end of the day and cuddling with my Hantengu clone plushies. You may say that i’m addicted to the clones and you’d be absolutely right but I don’t care, all I care about is seeing my pookies at the end of each day. Anyway, after locking up the 7/11 looking ass store I begin to make my way home and after one hell of a bus ride, I was home. Slamming open the door and locking it right after I proclaim “I’m home!!!” Even though I live alone which put me on edge as I hear soft but panicked footsteps in my bedroom, my heart leapt into my throat as the door swung open and out shot the best Urogi cosplayer i’ve ever seen. Had this not been a home invasion scenario, I might have started complimenting him on looking exactly like one of my favourite characters. However, I did not get that chance as I was suddenly encased in thick arms and soft wings as the cosplayer(?) lifts me up and swings me around. “Little fangirl, you’re home!” God his voice sounds just like him too, this man must be blessed by the kny gods. From between the wings, which were suspiciously mobile and fluid, I see an Aizetsu slowly creep out my bedroom with my Aizetsu plushy in his hands.

I feel my feet touch the ground once more as these two behemoths size me up, it is now that I notice how the Urogis wings move and begin to think to myself that maybe these aren’t cosplayers. I shake slightly as I look up at them asking “How did you get into my house?” Luckily it seems that they had no problem in understanding the English language as they respond. “We don’t exactly know, one minute we were fighting some slayers and the next we were dropped into your room.” The Aizetsu speaks as the Urogi pokes me with suspiciously sharp talons which I eye cautiously. “The better question is why do you have all these things that look like us and the other clones?” The Urogi chuckles as he squishes my cheeks gently.

“Oh umm…. Well how do I explain this?” I am genuinely struggling to explain that these characters weren’t real in my world and for the next 20 or so minutes I explain it, showing them the manga and bits of the anime along with fanart (the safe ones). All in all I think they took it pretty well, they both seem surprised that people like them, Aizetsu more then Urogi. But soon enough night fell on us and I found myself getting tired, them being demons means that they didn’t need to sleep and I don’t know how I feel with sleeping around wide awake demons in my house but soon enough I found myself on the couch drifting off. In my sleepy haze I didn’t quite clock the arms wrapping around me and the two faces nuzzling either side of my neck as sleep took its hold on me.

Michie roommate AU ideas (part one probably)

Richie doesn't know Max is his roommate and he's shocked to learn Max can cook, especially when Max starts making meals specifically for him. Maybe he learns from Steph later that it's sort of a love language for him.

A Basic 'one room gets flooded, you're not sleeping on the couch, only one bed' situation.

This can go either way. One has a date and the other makes some shit up to seem less pathetic. From here, you can do two things. 1: The pathetic one has to find someone to go on a double date with him with and they end up hitting it off more than their dates. Or 2: The one with a date comes home dejected from being stood up or just having a shitty date and the pathetic one comforts them.

Richie gets out of a clearly shitty long term relationship and is heartbroken. Max goes on a rant about how Richie deserved better from the start, giving examples about what he deserves in a partner (which maybe Max so happens to do most of already) and how Richie is such a wonderful, adorable, passionate person who deserves someone great. And Richie sees him differently after that. And maybe after Richie says he'd kind of like to date Max, Max says he doesn't deserve to date Richie. He's not good enough. You go from there.

Richie comes down in cosplay clothes (not wig, maybe makeup) to eat [this is a real thing; cosplayers confirm] and turns out Max is kind of attracted to Richie when he's dressed like... whatever anime character that is.

Alternatively, Richie wears Max's clothes for a cosplay for because he's doing laundry. Max likes that too. Maybe he doesn't get those clothes back and he is Perfectly okay with that.

TW: Max's canonic domestic abuse. Max has a panic attack when he realises he didn't clean his dish after dinner and he's convinced Richie’s going to yell at him when he goes downstairs, or break the plate over his head like some people might. Richie comes to his room, worried, to find him absolutely freaking out. This is when Richie finally confronts Max about his past with his father.

Horror movies. Like Saw or whatever, a lot of gore or torture. I dunno if It or something would work for this, since it's not very scary. Richie is very desensitized to them after watched Tokyo Ghoul, but absolutely didn't expect Max to be horrified by every scary scene.

We're gonna give It some credit now. Max and Richie have both seen It One before so they decide to watch it (maybe after watching horror movies Max can't stand) When they watch chapter Two Richie starts pointing out all the gay shit between Richie and Eddie. This changes Max’s like... whole life perspective. I think one or more Saw movies have gay shit too, but I havent seen any of them.

Max takes Richie out to drink after he turns 21 and Richie is absolutely plastered. Max finds the outgoing, idiotic Richie adorable, and sleepy drunk Richie charming. Richie is thankful for Max taking care of him for essentially two days in a row, with his hangover. He realises just how often Max takes care of him.

Classic "trying to convince you I'm okay with you moving out by complaining about your habits, mixing in 'it's so stupid that I find all this shit charming and don't want to live without it." Is that classic or am I making up a memory if seeing this before?

Max starts humming songs he's heard Richie play. Richue laughs and asks him if he knows those songs are in Japanese and Max is like "dude, I thought I was just being delusional." Not really a ship one, but funny.

Max getting jealous when Richie invites his friends over (potentially being alone with Trevor's bf, who's very attractive and has an accent) because he's used to getting most of Richie’s attention.

Richie does a formal cosplay (whether that's a formal character like Sigma bsd or a black butler character, or just making a non-formal character dress formally) and Max is really into it.

Max keeps getting hard when he sees Richie all messed up from sleeping in the morning. Richie finds this out and laughs slightly at first, saying it's a little weird that he didn't just claim morning wood and be done with it, but he keeps doing it on purpose after that. He messes up his hair a little bit more in the morning and makes sure his pyjamas look disheveled. Max eventually finds this out and asks about it.

Louise, the photographer and possible cosplayer (that last one is a head-canon of mine)

Okay, let's talk about Louise and why I feel that the character was not explored more when she could have appeared more times in the last chapters of the series.

I mean, I mean, look at this character and tell me he doesn't deserve more prominence. In this last season I saw quite a few interesting characters and nothing was delved into about them. I mean, I loved the series and its ending was also glorious, but I would have liked to see in more depth each and every one of the characters that they included from one moment to the next.

Anders? I bet they only put it in to give Hilda a reason to go back to Tofoten to investigate (plus we were already making a lot of theories about who Hilda's father was and they wanted to clarify that point).

Astrid's neighbor? This guy seemed to know something, I don't know what but it was like he knew more than he should. It was as if they had wanted to include it in the plot but in the end they didn't have time to do that whole process.

And I have several more, characters from other seasons and so on, but let's return to the main topic. We will talk about this in another post that I am preparing.

As I was saying, Louise feels like a character with the potential (or at least for me) to create a problem big enough to make an extra chapter or season of the series. In other words, everyone in the trio of young adventurers is literally involved in causing chaos and some kind of incident that could have escalated simply by being themselves.

David is a perfect example. The boy literally collects rocks and takes them home. We all know what incident was involved so I'll skip the details and say this: the boy was able to go to prison.

Frida is not far behind, no sir, of course not. This girl was determined to raise the dead for a book, a damned book that not even the filthy ghosts had. It caused a fight between the city's nisse at the Sparrow Scout meeting place (of course it was to help Hilda, but let's leave that aside for now). And I may not know much about witchcraft, but breaking into the witches' tower (and private areas of the library) is certainly something to talk about.

Now look at Louise. He is without a doubt a bread of god. AND IT HAS NOT CAUSED THE POSSIBLE ANNIHILATION OF A CITY!

We urgently need this child to cause some trouble immediately. I don't know what to do, I just want it to get into the friend dynamic of 'we're not solving the problem, we're making a bigger one that will make you forget about the original problem.'

We need ideas people, and this is where we all come in. I mean, I'm not forcing them. I am only politely demanding that you create some extra information about Louise to be clearer about the personality of this new member of the trio of friends. There's so much to do with this character and they just didn't use almost any of it in the series. So help me help them help me to help this character help him help me to help them help me and…. Okay, I've already lost even myself in this. But I get my point across.

So I await your comments, I would like to know what head-canon you have about the photographer boy. Mine is that he cosplays, and I would love to see him try to integrate Hilda, David and Frida into cosplaying (I once saw an image of David as Baldur from God of War and I was fascinated).

Where would you recommend looking to purchase Touhou cosplay outfits? I've been looking through EZcosplay, But I'm really skeptical of the how the quality may be. Hello! First off thank you so much! I do make some of my stuff but typically if I am buying cosplays I do so secondhand. Mostly because it saves me a bit of money! So sadly I do not have a lot of experiences purchasing new! However I'll try to help the best I can with what I know :D! If you are interested in buying secondhand please send me a message and I'll send you my big info pile on it. I have a lot more experience with it in comparison so I have a ton of links and information on it! Ok so for new! I think the best place currently in terms of price and quality is typically Taobao. A lot of stores like aliexpress and other online shops that sell touhou cosplays are often just reselling from Taobao. Buying off Taobao can be a little tricky but you will need a proxy. I know a few touhou cosplayer mutuals of mine have had a lot of success with bhiner cosplay It is basically a taobao proxy with a focus on cosplay and there is a whole touhou section here <--- I have only ordered here once and it was for a Yukari Parasol prop. It was a pretty good experience overall and the quality was nice. The only major issue recently is I've hear Bhiner has stopped accepting paypal for payment. I'd have to try to put an order in to confirm that but it might be something worth looking into another proxy for! At the very least its a great way to browse what is currently being sold and bhiner always links the actual taobao stores themselves, so you could easily go through another proxy! Another touhou cosplayer also made a handy guide on buying some of the more fancy premades as well I'll also link that here <------ A very helpful guide!! I bought a costume off a cosplayer that bought it from a shop called fm-anime . Can't speak for the ordering process but the quality pretty good! It was a Touhouvania Alice cosplay. It looks like they have limited stock these days with touhou but it might be worth a look! RoleCosplay seems to have a decent selection and even some less popular touhou characters. I've never ordered off here myself though so I'd maybe look into reviews a bit more! Maybe I should put in a test order and do a review one day LOL EzCosplay (as you stated) I have heard mixed things about! It used to be regarded as a pretty okay place to get Touhou cosplays from but more recently I've seen some people complain about sizing issues and quality in regards to their photos vs product etc! As a black Person Growing Up Myself, It has been a beautiful journey road being a proud African American man coming out as genderqueer, I always Found Comfort & love In My own Skin & even my Hair of all textures, first time I saw the ever Strong lightning goddess storm in the xmen series on fox kids made a great impact in my life in the early days of the 80s & 90s along other favorite shows back then however,

POC representation in the Future of Anime & western animation even in today's media has been distorted Or even limited on how we as black people are drawn. from caricatures To Stereotypes, or to follow a certain trend to make a profit from viewers & fans be it from influencers & popular media or just to be made Fun Of & Mocked, do to make a profit out of our black origins & History.

Example black character such as Usopp One piece.

however there have been great anime that have made our features positive one is Sol Bianca and others

Pokemon, Michiko Hatchin, Naruto & Carole And Tuesday.

Just like In Real Life, We As black people come in so many textures and beautiful complexions as you see in all of animation, & black-owned magazines, such as essence and this one Called Jet in the 1920s through Now celebrating our great culture.

We As Blerds, Black Fans & Cosplayers should have good content in which we can express, & be uplifted by our skin Personality & meaning itself, No matter what background or environment to which we dress, or cosplay a character that's out of our skin tone.

The Hair Style Topic, oh yes its no big surprise that hair controversy within media has sparked in outrage,or made in impact throughout, be it in and out of workplaces or in the entertainment industry, I do feel at times things could've been handled with care.

From what I've seen we have gotten 2 steps forward, 4 steps back situation of all the controversies coming from the killmonger haircut that's been sported, which is a limited stifled hairdo on how we are only presented and how our hair can be made into cause it's a following trend, Because this is not the only distinct hairsyle to have Iin animated media, A Half Cut Mop will Not do So Put some Soul Glo & Let It Grow.

NOW you may wonder why i decided to put this post of a Disney main character of afro Latina background, well Luz Noceda I feel has great growth coming out to her friends and chosen family, however doesn't change the fact they didn't do anything for her to show ethnic representation other than speak Spanish, Having to show that aggressive Spicy latina Archetype to a Degree, & have a black father mention in season 2, having given no origin story or closure.

throughout the show this showed has shown great lgbt representation even though at times flawed, in the relationship area. ( another topic for a video COmING SOON) however the owl house has fall flat on ethnic & hair representation, Gus is a great example of a character being sidelined a lot too.

for instance luz noceda has been stifled into nothing but that pokemon goh knockoff haircut,

even though there may have been open-minded viewers,who agree on luz hair being styled effectively, making many statements that hair shows so many emotions in animation, Down below

That all hair on poc characters is a good is how you pull it off, in the picture below there tons of great characters in many hairdos complementing them.

sometimes i wish luz character could have handled by poc staff, and have her own break out like the rest of the female characters, cause I kid you not, I met a lot of non-gender-conforming characters or people, who sport many hair designs. It infuriates me such a beautiful person Luz Batista find out the pilot that her character was somewhat sidelined due to the writing Problems & Shipping and I'm baffled how of course white staff members didn't do their research on Afro Latina her cause Luz is beautiful

Knowing other shows such as Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur Do an incredible job of Discussing on how black hair is powerful, magical & comes in many shapes and intricate designs if you know what your doing and I for one have a graceful mother who a beautician coming from her,

We are in an era where black people shouldn't exist or we arent amount to anything and I too had my fair share of my hair being talked about in a nasty way,

Kasumi Miwa reminds me of Ochako Uraraka only Miwa is better written.

I've had similar thoughts too, anon. I think there is something interesting to be learned by comparing characters like Miwa and Uraraka who have similiar origin stories, motivations and even kind of similiar personalities and how they fit into the story. To preface this so I don't get hate in my inbox, I'm actually going to try not to be negative towards Uraraka here. Uraraka and Bakugo are the two hero kids I am the most invested in. Someone asked me to compare Miwa and Uraraka and so I'm comparing them. There's actually something to be learned here!!! It's an interesting discussion to see how Uraraka and Miwa are both written in their respective stories.

1. Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice

Now, I'm going to start the post by saying I actually think it is fine for a female character to basically just be a nice, normal teenage girl. Why would I say something so controversial yet so Brave? I know characters like say, Sakura get a lot of flack for being more down to earth when they are the only female in the trio while their male counterparts have these huge sweeping high drama. However, I feel like authors try to overcorrect for this by trying way too hard to make a character who's "not like all the other girls." So they eschew things like, say, femininity, or timid characteristics, or even any weakness a female character might have in order to make them try to stand out more.

Here is the thing though, you can make a character that's EXACTLY like the other girls and have them be just as compelling as any of the boy characters. What makes a character compelling isn't really the circumstances surrounding them, their backstory, how powerful they are, it's just their character arc, their emotions, their personal perspective and how they change over the course of the story. Low-stakes characters, or normal girl characters, can be just as compelling if the author puts time into developing them. There's a reason people read Slice of Life.

Just two examples, people get super invested in Haikyuu and Haikyuu isn't super high drama it's about a bunch of normal high school kids getting invested in high school volleyball and why it's worth it to put effort into sports and even like clubs in your high school years even if you're not going to nationals, or you're not going to play proffesional volleyball. Haikyuu is the one sports manga that's about how it's okay to lose at the sport today, because you might win at something else tomorrow. Another example is My-Dress up Darling, another slice of life series that does not have huge stakes but you can get really invested in it because Marin's enthusiasm for cosplay, a hobby, and the genuine joy she gets over putting a lot of effort to dress up as characters is something the audience can share in her feelings and enjoy it right alongside her. Like, there are a lot of cosplayers in the real world, and cosplay is just a hobby but it's something they put a lot of effort in, it matters to them.

To add onto this Orihime is my favorite shonen female lead of any big and popular shonen jump manga, and she has a lot of traits that people criticize Sakura for. She is not a soul reaper, she is not the most powerful character in the series, she is sometimes helpless, she has a crush on a boy. However! Orihime is supposed to be a normal teenage girl, trying to be helpful in this conflict where all of these characters are super OP, like the captains, the quincy, the hollow and Ichigo himself. Orihime's personal struggles are just as important to the story as other characters who are stronger than her. If anything Orihime grounds the story because it shows us the perspective of a normal person struggling in these circumstances when she's not a quincy-hollow-soulreaper-human hybrid like Ichigo. If anything, she embodies what I like about Ichigo that he's just a normal kid who only wants to protect his neighborhood of Karakura town even better because she just turns out to be a normal human who got one special ability in the end more focused on healing then physical strength. What matters is that I know what Orihime's FEELINGS are with her personal struggles, and I can connect to those as a reader.

Sorry this is a long introduction to a question about Miwa and Uraraka's characters, but I just wanted to make my point there's nothing wrong with girls who are sweet and nice and down to earth they can be just as interesting as their male counterparts.

Miwa and Uraraka both have similiar origins, and role in the stories, they give the perspective of a normal teenage girl. When other characters are struggling with bigger issues, they fight against things like low-self esteem or trying to find their place against their stronger, more ambitious counterparts. One similarity they share is in their very first arc, they are placed in a fight against someone stronger and much more ambitious than they are. For Uraraka it's Bakugo, for Miwa it's Maki.

Uraraka's personal insecurities are introduced to us in the battle tournament arc, first that she's not being a hero to rescue people like Deku or out of a big ambition to be number one like Bakugo but because she wants to help pay for her parents who are poor. At this point Uraraka has not really thought through her own feelings about why she wants to be a hero, especially because she's becoming a hero to help someone else not for her own reasons.

A big theme for Uraraka's character is she's very considerate to other people but constantly repressing or ignoring his own feelings. In other words she builds other people up (especially Deku) to put herself down. So, this comes to a head where she has only entered the tournament to get scouted, and get a better chance of making money, and she is up against someone who is deeply passionate and fighting to win.

Uraraka is extremely intimidated by Bakugo and down on herself at first, especially when the first few rounds she doesn't feel like she was giving her best or treating this seriously in comparison to her friends, and when Deku offers her his help for the fight it makes Uraraka feel worse because she thinks she should be the one doing these things for herself. Then we see her put everything into the fight against Bakugo, and still lose. Now, it's disappointing that a female character loses a pretty major fight, but emotionally the moment still works because the audience knows how Uraraka feels about this. Say you study for two weeks every single night for a big test, and you still do poorly that's hard to cope with that loss because it makes all the hard work you do put in feel like wasted effort. Characters are just as compelling when they lose then when they win.

Miwa goes through a similiar initial fight in her tournament arc, albeit with a lot less screentime. Miwa becomes a sorcerer for selfish reasons, it's literally just a job for her. If anything, she acts more selfihsly than Uraraka at first, because Miwa is straight up willing to kill Itadori the main character, because it will 1) gain her more favor at Jujutsu High, and 2) give her a better chance at promotion. I think this is something that's rarely mentioned about Miwa, she is a nice and well meaning person but she was also totally willing to commit murder.

Miwa doesn't harbor any ill will towards Itadori, she also feels sorry about it, but that doesn't stop her from doing it.

Miwa's not trying to excuse herself, and at least she knows that she's doing the wrong thing, but to state this for a third time she's perfectly willing to go along with a plan to kill an innocent person because she'll personally benefit from it. She is driven by poverty and outside circumstances, but she doesn't really consider Yuji's feelings or circumstances at all. You could also say this is where "useless" Miwa begins her arc, because she personally disagrees with the group but doesn't stand up against them either.

Miwa ends up in a fight against Maki and just like Bakugo and Uraraka, Miwa is someone much less motivated and ambitious than Maki. Miwa's problems are more down to earth and realistic she needs money to survive because she's poor (not to like... understate how hard being poverty is on children it's actually horrible) in comparison to Maki's horribly abusive childhood and her parents who later on in the story literally try to kill her. Miwa's less ambitious in comparison she's just trying to survive, Maki's trying not only to climb all the way to the top, she's trying to destroy the clan structure that abused her. Opposite to Uraraka and Bakugo though, Uraraka knows how serious an opponent Bakugo is and tries to match his intensity whereas Miwa totally udnerestimates Maki and gets so overwhelmed she can't keep up and loses to a pretty small mistake.

So, here are their introductory arcs, they are both met with characters who are stronger and more ambitious than them, and they both fail and are left disappointed in themselves.

The next commonality they share in their arc is they experience a moment of being unable, or unhelpful in saving someone. For Uraraka this happens twice but I think the bigger and more personal moment is when the kids all gather to deicde whether or not to try to save Bakugo on their own and Uraraka, well-meaning, nice Uraraka who idolizes Deku's desire to save people doesn't join in. Her stated reason is that she doesn't want their help and so they should leave it to All Might. Once again, we have this flaw showing itself of Uraraka being so considerate of other people's feelings it makes her indecisive because she's too afraid to step on other people's toes.

Afterwards, Uraraka regrets that she is not one of the people who lept at the oppurtunity to save Bakugo. Uraraka also has a similiar experience later on when Sir Nighteye essentially dies in her arms and there is little she can do about that fact except watch. She confides in Aizawa afterwards how upsetting this was. It's hard to go further in on this part because Uraraka herself wasn't really the focus of that arc.

Miwa's arc after the Kyoto battle arc becomes tied in with Mechamaru's arc, mainly in her attempt to reach out to Mechamaru and grow closer in them, and the tragedy that she wasn't able to reach him in time because by that point Mechamaru was the traitor to Jujutsu High and he made a deal with Mahito to fix his body.

This is a much more tragic arc for both Mecharu and Miwa and one that has extremely personal and devastating consequences for both of them. The thing is Miwa was perfectly fine with Kokichi's body the way it was, he didn't need to change anything about himself. Miwa always wanted to grow closer to him. If she hadn't been so hesitant and afraid of losing him and had communicated that much sooner than Kokichi might never have made his deal with Mahito to fix his body.

Kokichi is also a character who was too afraid to reach out to his friends, and too afraid of losing them. Miwa's fear of losing Mechamaru makes her keep distance between them until the last moment and it's too late. Kokichi's fear of losing Miwa makes him first get overprotective of her and all of his friends, deciding to fight on his own because he's too afraid of putting them at risk. Number two, he doesn't confide his feelings in any of his friends because he is trying to be strong and fix everything on his own.

Miwa's character is revolving around her feelings for a boy (oh no), but it's actually a pretty effective arc, number one because it's about Miwa's flaws (her low self worth and her indecisiveness) and it's about Kokichi's flaws (his overprotectiveness and decision to isolate himself).

Number two, Miwa is the survivor of this arc. When Mechamaru dies it's about her feelings over him, it's about her having to live with her pain and her regrets about not helping in time after.

There is a lot of potentail for Miwa's arc afterwards, her surviving the lost of not only Mechamaru but Mai too. I am incredibly interested in how she will cope with these losses especially since when she appeared after Yuta's fight she looked really ominous. Kamo Noritoshi one of her classmates was also in a really dark place when we saw him working with Maki.

Okay, now this is the part where I start talking about Uraraka negatively in comparison to Miwa. After the Yakuza arc in My Hero Academia we see a shift in Uraraka's character, where her character become less about her own personal motivations and rather her feelings about Deku.

Someone has made a much longer and more detailed meta about how Uraraka's best ending point is her actually leaving her admiration of Deku behind and find out how she wants to be her own hero. Story wise though, I think the plot has lost track of what Uraraka's personal thoughts, feelings and struggles are. She is being used as a narrative tool for two things, one Toga's redemption, and two supporting Deku. Uraraka's big speech in the story itself, her big moment to shine is giving a speech that's basically for Deku's sake, about Deku's feelings. I actually don't think a romance arc is bad for a character to have, I went into detail why Miwa's feelings for a boy are actually super compelling in the story it takes place in.

Uraraka being a more support focused hero, isn't a bad thing! Uraraka not wanting to step into the spotlight isn't a bad thing! Orihime does the same thing in Bleach, a lot of her character is how she doesn't want to be left behind by Ichigo and she wants to be helpful to him. However, Orihime has relationships with other characters besides Ichigo that are complex. Orihime envies Rukia for how naturally Rukia and Ichigo get along and support each other but at the same time Rukia is an incredibly close personal female friend and she is someone Orihime confides in. Orihime spends her time in Hueco Mundo bonding with Ulquiorra, to the point where Ulquiorra's fight with Ichigo is something that tears her apart and fills her with doubt. Orihime and Ishida are always characters who have interacted, Ishida watches her when Ichigo runs off. Uraraka's problem is really serving as a narrative tool to service other peopel's plotlines, Toga, and Deku but Uraraka herself as a character doesn't get much development.

I actually think this is a problem with Bakugo too, he used to be a character about trying to find his own definition of heroism when he doesn't really have the demeanor of a hero. Now, Bakugo's entire character has devolved into his rivalry and relationship with Deku when he used to talk to other characters besides Deku and he also used to focus on himself.

Miwa on the other hand, as I discussed above is the survivor of her tragic personal arc with Kokichi. If she continues on as a character it's all going to be Miwa's feelings in dealing with that.

I also want to mention, Uraraka is a much more major character than Miwa, she has a lot more screentime in the novel, she gets into more fights. Miwa has only had one fight so far! Yet, at the same time Miwa's arc is harder hitting because it's about Miwa's feelings first and foremost. When Miwa is given focus it's all about her, and we know what her feelings about things are. If anything, Miwa is allowed to be a lot more messy, because she is weak, she is helpless, she hates herself for being these things, she breaks down crying in the most messy way possible. Miwa's personal flaw of being "useless' is compelling because there are actually pretty devastating consequence for her not pushing herself harder, like the likes of Maki.

On the other point other than her idealization of Deku it's a bit hard to tell what Uraraka's character flaw is at this point. Uraraka's got to be there to support Deku and so she doesn't make the same kind of horrible mistakes that Miwa does, and suffer than kind of loss. Uraraka used to be a girl first, and a hero second. Miwa's still just a normal girl, struggling to be a jujutsu sorcerer in a world that has taken way too much of her youth like all the other characters. So, I would say the reason people find Miwa compelling is because she fits into her story more. She fits the themes of the story of another youth dealing with horrible loss because Jujutsu Society just takes, and takes, and takes. She provides a unique perspective because she treats Jujutsu Sorcery as a job, and she's one of the few main characters who doesn't have cursed technique, and she's also not struggling to be the strongest like Maki. I don't know where Uraraka fits in the story, except how she can be of service to other character's arcs.

That is effectively the difference between them, they are equally complex characters riddled with insecurity and struggles but Miwa's struggles are focused on where Uraraka's have been out of focus as of late to be what the plot needs her to be.

Fickle Fandom

I need to rant about something I’ve noticed. Unfortunately, I deal with a person like those I’m about to talk about in real life and it’s not fun. This essay/rant is extremely informal and just me getting my thoughts out there, so please excuse the text talk, slang, shortcuts, etc. I am also very tired when typing this, so please cut me some slack if I don’t say what I’m wanting to in the most eloquent way!

I’m sure a lot of people have noticed that fandom spaces have become incredibly toxic. What used to be a fun place for weirdos (/pos) to feel safe and accepted is now being torn to shreds by people who can’t stand others having fun. TikTok is a great example of how a safe place for fandom behavior quickly became a cesspit of negativity. This post mostly focuses on cosplay. TikTok was basically built on cosplay. That used to be the main thing you’d find on the app! As more and more people started using it, it started to have different kinds of content, and now cosplay tends to get shoved down in favor of something more appealing to a wider demographic. Unfortunately, this means a lot of mean-spirited people have too much to say about a community they are not even part of.

The hate for cosplayers is unreal. Cosplayers aren’t doing anything wrong. We are dressing up as characters for fun. It is not hurting you. If you see something you don’t want to see, it is not hard to swipe past it. Ignore it. Interacting with it will ensure more content like it will reach your fyp. But some people just want to be mean and love the chance to get to do so. People make fun of cosplayers now like it’s their job. They insult them and throw fits like toddlers the moment they see them. Most hate for cosplayers is rooted in ableism, by the way! Fun fact! The word "cringey" has been twisted by sad people to target neurodivergent individuals. Many cosplayers (not all, but many) are neurodivergent. Many cosplayers are lgbt+, too. And you bet homophobia and transphobia is rampant in fandom spaces, too!

The hate doesn’t stop at people who don’t have nerdy interests, either. Oh no. Even people from fandoms are rude towards cosplayers! People will complain about "cringey" cosplayers "ruining" fandoms. Spoiler alert: there are cosplayers in every fandom. Kindly, get over it. People enjoy their fandoms in different ways! Some people write fanfiction and draw fanart, some consume fanfiction and fanart, some only interact with the original media, and some cosplay. All are valid ways to enjoy it! Hating on others for how they interact with their fandom is ridiculous, to say the least. The people ruining fandoms are the ones who can’t stand seeing others have fun. I’m sorry your life is so boring you can’t stand seeing others being creative and having a good time. However, that doesn’t give you the excuse to be a dickhead. Policing how someone expresses their love of something is not cool. Anyone who does this is actually a pathetic little weenie.

Let me get into my personal experience! Remember how I mentioned I have someone like this irl? Let me tell you about the interaction that spurred this rant! I am preparing for a con at this very moment. This weekend! Some context here: I am a cosplayer. I have been doing it for years and it’s a hobby that I love and don’t plan on giving up on anytime soon. I am also someone who is very inspired by drag and I enjoy doing my makeup inspired by cartoons and drag queens. This person absolutely cannot stand it when I decide to even put on a little makeup for the heck of it. Oops, I’m also someone who does my makeup occasionally outside of cosplay! The incognito nerd saw me carrying some of my makeup to my bag and stopped me to go, "You’re not gonna dress like a CLOWN, are you?" This could be taken literally, but I’m pretty sure it was meant to be an insult. This person insults my makeup often, claiming I don’t do it right (there is no right way to do makeup, btw). They also generally insult the way I dress. I told them no, but why would it matter?

"Because it’s embarrassing! Don’t embarrass me!" Babe, YOU embarrass ME tbh! I literally told them straight up, "This place is going to be filled with cosplayers and people like me. I don’t know what to tell you." If you are someone who gets embarrassed of cosplayers, a con probably isn’t the place for you. What used to be a safe space for cosplayers is now overrun by people who don’t know how to have fun. I should not have to worry about being harassed and made fun of at a place where people like me are supposed to thrive. Please, loosen the stick in your asshole ever so slightly so you can see that cons are meant to be fun! If you’re easily overloaded by "cringey" stuff, please stay home. You sour the mood and suck the life of everyone around you. Okay, sponge mop?

I can’t even get into how some other cosplayers treat cosplayers. That is a whole other can of worms I simply cannot get into right now. We will be here all night. Cosplay is not a clout contest. It is not about who is most accurate to the character. Cosplay is supposed to be FUN! And it is for everyone! No one is too old to cosplay. No one is too fat to cosplay. No one is too skinny to cosplay. No one should feel restricted because of skin color. No one should feel restricted because of gender. No one should feel restricted because of money. No one should feel bad about cosplaying, ever. People can stylize characters. People can make closet cosplays. Cosplay is for everyone. If I see any more cosplayers bringing other cosplayers down, I’m gonna lose it.

My point is, fandom spaces aren’t as fun as they used to be. I miss when I could walk into a con with a barely recognizable Juuzou Suzuya cosplay and still get complimented for trying (real experience! Those cosplayers were so kind!). I miss when I didn’t feel like I’d be judged for entering a space I should feel safe in. I miss when I could drag up my cosplay as much as I want without someone telling me the makeup is too much. I miss when fandom spaces were fun. If you can’t handle fandom activity in a fandom space, you should reflect on why you don’t like it. Most likely, it’s jealousy others can enjoy themselves so freely. Let others have fun. Just because you’re miserable doesn’t mean everyone else has to be.

they don't know if Pap and Eve are okay or even alive, because they were out of town on a mission--but they were due to come back on the day the catalyst happened, so their status is unconfirmed

A little bit about me:

I have recently joined the plague doctor community & the welcome I’ve received is lovely. Everyone is so sweet, kind & an absolutely wonderful inspiration! I’ve currently joined the community over on instagram! I post what I think plague doctors would look like in different situations. For example an adventure plague or my own rendition of a Victorian plague or even my only little oc of a *ahem* playboy plague. Obviously this content isn’t everyones cup of tea but any support is appreciated! I am currently at the expiration date of 19 years old & hope to be continuing to make plague cosplays as I add years to my death date.

My plague mask is custom. Well the base mask isn’t. A college friend gifted me the mask as a secret Santa gift and I after awhile of following fellow plague doctor cosplayers, wanted to a) join the ranks of plague doctor cosplayers but also b) wanted something that was unique to me as a person.

So I decided to paint my mask and keep my hair down as a way of really becoming apart of my character. ( You don’t need super expensive leather paints to do this, I used some leather acrylic paints I got off Amazon for about £20 I think (they were on sale) to paint my mask and some paint sealant to keep the paint from being scratched off

Travel Blog: Leipzig Bookfair Saturday

or: Promotion, Innocence and Popcorn

Third Convention day. Return of the 1st Uniform. To be honest I made the Uniform because I was curious if more people would recognize the character overall.

My mood was way better than before, a good night of sleep (7 hours instead of 4) helped a lot, I was happy there were two more convention days ahead and I love the Uniform, it's one of the best pieces I made for myself so far.

I wasn't that looking forward to handling the Innocence though, in before I just wore two (vintage) gloves but as I had made two Innocence arms i wanted to wear them. My friends were prepared to be my helper in case of ... bathroom needs.

After we got a little snack for Tim (there was free Popcorn okay? Yes, we took photos), we went to the Hardball booth for photos and ....

... they even took out the big banner they had and took a photo and posted it. I still can't believe this happened. As I am super insecure regards my cosplays because I was ditched several times in the past because I wasn't thin/pretty enough (talk for another day though) and now I got this and I'm still in awe. I got a special poster as little thank you ;w;

We walked around a lot and took a ton of photos, but it was Saturday you could tell! The hall was pretty crowded early. The most cosplayed series this time was Hazbin Hotel and I have to say it gave the fair such a positive vibe as everyone was just darling, music was played here and there, people sang and danced along. I have literally no idea where the Saturday went.

Let me show you one teaser shot of one of the several photoshoots we did that day. It's from a sequence we randomly came up with as we took photos of the Innocence and I needed to dress up anyways. I'm very looking forward to edit and share the rest of the photos!

I was also able to meet everyone I wanted to meet that day! Kaisaa_Art over from IG, the Lavi I was told about on friday and then even another Lavi. Last year I only had met one other Allen, this is so many cosplayers more ;w;

Also I love my silly bunch.

The day ended somehow way too soon, as said I have no idea where the day went.

Biggest decision that evening was what to order for take out then :'D haha. We left a bit earlier to avoid traffic.

My evening ended with me finally noticing that I ... forgot the pants for the Sunday Outfit. :')

Tbh, I often cringe when watching live adaptations of SHONEN manga, where they try to recreate impossible things, and then the show looks ridiculous because it's just not believable. I'm not talking about dragons here, but it always feels like cheap cosplay. But live adaptations of SHOJO manga? Absolutely amazing. They feel real. These girls are treated like actual characters, instead of cosplayers that should look exactly like they do on paper.

I generally don't watch live action adaptations because like.... why would I, right?

I think the only live action adaptation I even have in my "to watch" list is the live actions version of "Erased" which is anyway based on a novel so you can't even really say it's an anime adaptation (although I am sure it will follow a lot of the anime's cues). But Erased as a crime mystery with some time travel thrown in. So of course being recreated in live actions isn't a giant jump.

I think also you're talking more about the sad state that shoujo has devolved into in modern time where it essentially means "high school love story". But I can't imagine a lot of classic shoujo working in live action. I cannot even FATHOM what Terra E would look like if they tried to do it with real people. Even Rose of Versailles which easily COULD work in live action only has one film which is generally considered to not be very good, and then is almost exclusively kept to Takarazuka Revue for its live action version. And I think it works because it's a stage play. But Terra E? yeah no way.

It's weird but it makes me think how Sentai shows don't really work in animation which is a weird thought. Because really, sentai shows SHOULD be great for animation and there HAVE been animated versions of sentai. But all that makes sentai what it is was born from the limitation of the live action medium. From the way the monsters look to how the fights play out. So trying to present it authentically in animation makes it look awkward and weird.

(although that being said I am super fucking excited for Monster No.8 but that's it's own thing)

That being said makes me realise I am actually wrong, I HAVE seen a live action adaptation of an anime and it's the sentai show of Sailor Moon. Which looks exactly like its $5 budget would make you think, but it's saved by fantastic writing and taking interesting and brand new steps with the source material. And again, because it's a sentai it somehow works by leaning into the aesthetics of other sentai shows, rather than trying to reflect the original manga or anime.

And also it's AGGRESSIVELY early 2000s which is really charming.

Anyway I'm rambling.

I'm genuinely trying to think of a single live action shounen show I have ever seen which I think actually work but I am drawing a blank.

A rainy yet fun day at our café

It was the start of the USC days and it was raining, we didn’t get a chance to had a proper opening day since it was raining. Instead of going to the big and open quadrangle, we instead just went outside of the classroom to celebrate it. Many people were there, deferent strands, such as ABM, HUMSS, and A&D. I was an art and design student before, so obviously were only got a small population, we only had three blocks, unlike other stands where they had many blocks which I can’t count. Although it was raining we had a blast at the opening day of it, though it was raining and making us moist, it was exciting to witness.

    After the opening ceremony, we went back into our classroom in which we turned into an art café, we called the café Art Appetite. We sell many arts related content, such as game posters, stickers, and miscellaneous art related stuff. To add to that, we as well operated an cosplay photo booth in where I got to cosplay as well, we had to get in our cosplay attire after the opening of the event. It was a gloomy and cloudy day, but we brought rainbows and sunshine to everyone in the school by doing the art café and entertaining our customers. It felt like we got to be the main character for that day since we were in deferent outfit than everyone.

Finishing with the preparation, we opened our little yet spacious café inside of our classroom. My first shift was to guard the door. I had to stand there with my cosplay on and attend to the customers and write down their names so we will know who and how much went inside of our café. Many wanted to take pictures with me and it made me quite happy, since it took many efforts in doing cosplay and I had to style my own wig, bought my costume, and put in a lot of confidence to walk or stand around in a cosplay in a gloomy and rainy day. After some time, my shift ended, and I was tasked to advertise our café, so we began to walk around and try to get some potential customers from the campus.

   After some walking, I heard from a friend of mine that they got harassed by a student when doing some walking around and advertising the café. I got so mad, confused, and protective of them since she is quite small and is quite delicate and sensitive. So we decided to create a buddy system in order to stop or avoid getting harassed by the naughty and misbehave students that can squeeze us tight making us not able to move in one bit and making us more uncomfortable from them. Most of us are introverts so we get scared by small interactions, but we had one extrovert that was in cosplay as well to help us in our job. But she was part of a cosplay competition so we first head to the venue where they held the cosplay event. After some time, it was over, so we decided to start promoting and advertising our little spacious café, but unfortunately my extroverted friend did not win.

    Due to the advertising and promoting our café, we got really tired and wanting to head back the café. Yet, we decided to roam again for some time before going back to the café ran. But when passing by a classroom, we heard someone said something really weird towards my other cosplayer friend that was with us. He yelled something that turned us off. It was another harassment that was being made by the seniors we had on the fifth floor, we side eyed the person and moved along. When we arrive back to the café, I saw familiar faces. I was confused and shocked like the cat meme that keeps on saying “huh?” and wondered why they are there, and they told me that they transferred there as well and were visiting the campus that I am in.

   After sometime in the café and managing some station, we head back out again and tried to look for customers. But of course, that was not it. Few minutes after going outside we went to another classroom and stayed there for a while. That classroom was for the student council, in which my one of my block mate was part in. The student council was selling used books to other students, it could be reserve or walked ins. Time flies and we started to head out again promoting our café, crossing paths with some of my block mates that were also advertising the café.

    Nothing interesting happened and we got tired again so we decided to head back to the café. Another moments of attending to the station, I got tired so I sat down, but a customer went in and ordered juice and some snacks. While handing in the beverage and snack, she complemented my long and black painted nails and it made me blush turning red a bit. I got shy and gain more confidence from the complement that she had gave me. It felt so nice hearing those words since my parents disagreed to the long and painted nails that I got before. It was validating.

    Nearing the end of this day, we went to the food court to try to get more customers but did not get any, so we instead bought some food there. When lining, I heard a junior high student sang something inappropriate for their age, and was thinking that I was the cause of it, which I am. Running away from my problem and with my food, my block mate bumped into someone that looked familiar to me. The person we ran into was my classmate from my elementary school. We were once really close but now she did not recognize me, it was probably because of my cosplay.

It was now closing time. We had to clean up all of the trash that was in our café after a busy day. The second and last day were no deferent to the event on the first day. In the end we earned 10k and above money from this. I had fun with my friends, meet new and old friends from the event. It felt like a fever dream to me because it was raining yet we still did that. I wish there was more of this, but all things have an end. This chapter of my life is engraved to my brain and is one of my core memory that I made in a new place.

Swampcon !!

Swampcon was an interesting experience. I went on Saturday afternoon with my friend, and we stayed there a couple of hours. When we got there, I was extremely surprised by how many were there. This was my first time attending a convention, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. There were a lot of people in really detailed and accurate cosplay of various characters. My favorite one was easily anyone cosplaying as the angel devil from Chainsaw Man (easily best character sorry). Also really loved all of the kurapika cosplayers. There were so many people cosplaying there that I almost felt out of place with my tshirt and shorts. As we talked about during our discussion of Genshiken: they take fiction that it our there and transform it into fiction that is theirs alone. Through this medium of fan culture, people were brought together to share their interests in various types of media.

I wasn’t able to go to the panels that I really wanted to go to since I woke up late. However, I was able to go to “How to get a rizztraining order” and it was something !!! First off, I really enjoyed this panel and how hilarious it was, but it really showcased how many creeps are out there. This panel showed different instances of men leaving gross and inappropriate comments on cosplayer’s pages and messages. Unfortunately, this side of the fandom is the one that gets the most attention from those outsides of this fandom. I know before getting into anime, I was (unfortunately) someone who was predisposed against it just because of weirdos like them, who end up tainting society’s perception of fandom.

This was sadly the only panel I was able to attend, but I still had an amazing time at the vendor corner. I’ll be honest and say I am the craziest shopaholic. I am always buying the most random and unnecessary things online or at target, so I knew it was going to be hard to resist buying stuff at Swampcon. Thankfully, I was there with my friend, and he was my voice of reason, so I ended up only spending $15 on a Cinnamoroll headband and got gifted Kirby earrings :D I loved seeing all of the different prints, charms, stickers, and figures that were on display. TBH I almost caved and bought a $250 Mikasa figurine because she solos. Seeing so many different types of products really made me realize how big consumer culture is. Fandom is an example of unofficial culture capital. We all buy these little fun or cute objects that don’t really translate into any economic benefits. We buy them because they make us happy and we can show these items to others that also enjoy them. These little (but very expensive) items bring us so much joy because it materializes fictional characters that we all enjoy and love. I like to think that I have some self control when it comes to fandom consumer culture, but then again I do have a full drawer full of anime shirts and a whole shelf with manga and small anime figures. :/

Overall, Swampcon was a really interesting and enjoyable event! It was really cool being in a safe and comfortable environment filled with zero judgment. It’s crazy how people come from all over the state, and even from other states to be able to attend this convention. I was able to meet others who share the same interests for even the most obscure and random animes that I have watched. I would love to attend next year and see what new things it will have to offer.
