Rider: V3 (after watching a scattered handful of '71 episodes I was able to find, but first full series was V3)

Sentai: a scattershot of whatever episodes were subbed of the first four seasons at the time (which was not much) and then Sun Vulcan

Ultra: I just went back and checked my downloaded twitter archive and apparently my intro was watching Leo and X simultaneously???

When I first got into Rider, I approached it foolishly like a normal TV show; I'll just start from the beginning and go through it in order! Somehow this survived contact with the realisation of how fucking much of it there is, but I did realise that at the time many of the older ones were barely or not at all subbed. But I still did it, and though I wasn't yet as interested in sentai (which I think nowadays I like more of the two) I knew they'd cross over, like, eventually, so why not do both, with the same "whatever's subbed" caveat. And that actually lasted for quite a while, I only broke when (while my chronological marathon had made it all the way up to OOO because I was an antisocial uni student with fuck all else to do on summer break but watch one million tokusatsus) Ex-Aid looked so good I had to jump the queue to check it out as it aired. I had skipped a couple series I hadn't enjoyed the start of along the way, also, but I've since revisited them and found I enjoy some of them a lot more as a full adult (Faiz is the big one). Also I guess it wasn't long after that I hopped on current sentai because Kyuranger was the first one I saw as it aired.

Meanwhile with Ultra I had the vague idea to do something similar, and got that old physical boxset of the '66 show subbed, but it didn't really go further than that, and anyway for some reason I never got further than the first couple episodes (I later went back and got all the way to...about episode 15, I should finish it someday), but found it much easier to watch stuff that was streaming on CR at the time since I could watch it on whatever computer. So since I was still on some level of that weird chronological idea I first checked out the oldest one they had, Leo, but for whatever reason decided to just go ahead and check out the most recent one at the time, X, as well. I don't know why I decided to go for this immediately unlike with rider/sentai, but I'm glad I did, because Leo is...intense, and kind of just a lot generally, so it was good to have a more gentle show as counterbalance.

For the record, this approach did end up working pretty well for me--Rider V3 and Ultraman X were instant faves and have remained so to this day, as was the next sentai I watched in full after Sun Vulcan, which was of course: Bioman.

actually it'd be kind of interesting to hear what people's first experiences of the big three were... for me it was:

first kamen rider: kiva (while gaim was airing so, with gaim)

Parole officer Paz and her little bastard charge Bill thoughts coming your way

Okay so Bill's staying with Paz and despite hating his situation he's a nosey little shit and he decides to observe Pacifica in her every day life. Mainly to kill boredom, and he notices a few things that are definitely different than when he'd seen her last time. For one thing she seems to have developed a hording problem. Pieces of scrap metal, gems, little chains and other knick knacks are all scattered around her house. As well as gloves and other useless things. She has books with little pine trees on them and pieces of art with glitter and other sparkling things. It's honestly annoying to him that she has all this stuff in places in her usually clean home. Another thing he notices is she's apparently on better terms with her dad, which is surprising. She always has a scheduled time for phone calls and will be on them for a good while much to his irritation. She also gets other phone calls from people and she's always looking forward to them, not paying much attention to him. (Which drives him up the wall). But the thing that irks him the most is the feeling of deja vu.

It's little things she does, little mannerisms and sayings she speaks. Things like sweet marmalade or what in the sam hell, and he hears it and it makes his teeth grind but he can't figure out why? This goes on for a bit and he grows more and more irritated with it until one day he catches her doing one of her little projects and she's got this expression on her face. One of concentration, with her tongue peeking out unconsciously as she handles a delicate piece of jewelry that it hits him. Because fuck he's seen that same exact expression.

And it clicks and suddenly so much makes so much sense and are you fucking kidding me????? Kind of deal. He never saw this coming and now he's hellbent on finding out how the hell this brat became friends with Fiddleford H. Mcgucket of all people. Bill's not happy at all for the rest of the day, hell the week once he realizes this lol. Basically Fidds haunts his ass even after therapy Bill will never be free of Mcgucket and that to me would be super funny.

I find really funny how there's a small part on this already small niche of the fandom that came for the horny fics and are staying only for the horny fics 😂. Nothing against it of course, even if there's sometimes that I find myself bluescreening whenever opening ao3😅. Just, something interesting that I've noticed.

Every and any community will always have a horny side. It's inevitable. Rule 34 and all that.

I've been on Tumblr longer than some people on this site have been alive. (Main blog was made in 2010.) Every fandom involving content creators (back then they were all just called Let's Players) has always had shipping, and then of that group there's always a subgroup for mature stuff. It's an interesting combination of celebrity culture and yaoi/BL culture.

It's a little obsessive, sure, but it's ultimately harmless so long as firm boundaries are set and followed. RPF is already a very delicate line to walk, and I'm not interested in being parasocial. To me, the personas they have online and in videos are separate from the real people they are in their day to day lives, and I'm only interested in those personas.

That's not me saying that everyone has to follow the same guidelines I set for myself, but everyone I've talked to here seems to understand that RPF should stay in its little corner. Like my pinned post says, I'm not interested in making the guys uncomfortable.

RPF is inevitable. RPF smut is inevitable. They're just dominoes in the same line that were waiting to be knocked down. I can't fault whoever knocked down the first domino because if it wasn't them, it would've been someone else.

All I ask is to keep the dominoes in the playroom.
