the difference between zosopp and sanuso (romantic OR platonic) is that Usopp is Zoro's specialest little guy and Zoro is someone Usopp hangs out with and looks up to and hides behind when things get scary, but Sanji and Usopp are best friends. They horse around, they beat each other up, they confide their worst fears trying to one up each other. Usopp hides behind Sanji sometimes, sure, but idk, Sanji's weaknesses are more obvious (bugs, fighting women, etc) so there are times when Usopp has to stand in front of Sanji too, yknow?
Like, how do I say this, all the crewmates are equal- Usopp and Zoro are equals- but with Sanji it feels like more... comradery? Zoro's a rock in a terrible storm- even rocks tend to get weathered and chipped and worn down, but they overall stay strong and steady. He has trouble being vulnerable and there are times when the burden he's placed on himself to keep the crew safe is crushing his chest. Usopp would help with that and be very understanding, but the point I'm trying to get with that is that those moments are few and far between. So I feel like Usopp, especially after Water 7, would take Zoro's lead on something like that, and keep most of his worries to himself or only talk about them sparingly unless they're really bad and/or he can't hide them.
Sanji is like a tree in a storm; he can be strong, yes, but it feels like he bends and sways with the storm, and has more obvious breaking points. He can relate more to Usopp's struggles rather than resorting to blunt honesty that might border on callous like Zoro. And while, with Zosopp, I tend to think of scenarios with Zoro being blunt like that as a good thing- because sometimes when you're spiraling, it's nice to have someone say exactly what's great about you and shoot down all your worries with straight facts that you can't argue with- I can also see this as being a bad thing. Anxiety can really twist up your brain sometimes, you know? And despite the words, the tone could still mess someone up if they're already feeling like a burden on others in some way.
With Sanuso it's a lot more understanding and thoughtful words. It's distractions and comfort food and patience- the kind reserved for Usopp- until Usopp talks about whatever's troubling him. Compared to Zosopp, it doesn't take as long for Usopp to open up, since he's done the same thing to Sanji at times and it's more familiar to him to talk and commiserate with Sanji about his worries and doubts and such. However, there are times stuff like this has absolutely no effect and Sanji will end up at a loss, no idea what to do or how to help over the course of several days with Usopp being quiet and keeping his distance, and he'll end up working himself up about it which will only serve to make Usopp feel worse and. yeah. bit of a vicious cycle with them.
So it's like. Usopp can be weak with both of them, but since I see Sanji as the type of guy who'd be more open with his worries (at least compared to Zoro), there's less of a need to 'perform' and be his best self around him. He's comfortable around Zoro, yes, but he is constantly wanting to show that he won't be a problem to him. On the other hand, while he's more open with Sanji, and Sanji with him, they tend to relate a bit too much with each other and they both have issues with causing trouble for others and being 'deserving of love' so failed attempts at consoling one hurts the other and creates an unpleasant cycle of misery and avoidance before some other crewmate (Zoro) tells them to quit being stupid and just fucking talk to each other.
#one piece#sanuso#zosopp#long post#nemotime#does this make sense or is this the ramblings of a person who's only got 3 hrs sleep#bc thats me. 3 hrs sleep. ugh#listen okay its like. zosopp has their own growing pains to get through yknow? zoro will eventually get the whole#'oh usopp isnt as open with me bc he wants to seem tough and is also kind of doing the same thing i do. thats bad for him'#and it'll be a whole thing about making a promise between the two of them to try and be more honest with their fears and seeking help#when they need it#the sanuso thing is like. i hope i didnt mean to make it seem like sanuso is 'better' or w/e bc its just a different thing#sanuso got their own problems to sort out. 1. Sanji's everything 2. boundaries on special treatment-#i'm not gonna go seriously into this but both relationships start out not the best and get better over time yknow#also i know usopp's afraid and freaking out a lot but for this post i meant his deeper fears and insecurities#not 'i've got can't-go-on-this-island disease' lmao#the tl;dr of this post is: Usopp is more closed off with Zosopp. Usopp and Sanji have similar issues that cause problems with Sanuso.#also the way i see these ships will probably change at some point. who knows#there was a post i saw recently that was like 'hey sanuso bc romance trio were already chill with each other so sanuso became chill with#each other in an 'alone together' type of way and also they have the same issues' and i thought 'wow so true bestie' and here we are#also. man. usopp taking on / copying the behaviours of his loved ones regardless of his age is just. my jam. in a positive or negative way#maybe i'll make a post about that explaining it more. maybe

hi you two!! apologies if this has been asked before, but are there any specific DC eras or comic runs or issues that inspire your Lois & Clark comics? I love how ushy gushy your stuff is and was hoping to find what inspired it!! absolutely obsessed with both your styles and looking forward to lunar boy!!
Aaah thank you so much for the compliments on both my Superman stuff and Lunar Boy!! That means the world to me :')
My version of Lois and Clark borrow from mainly two graphic novels: Superman Smashes the Klan by Gene Yang and Gurihiru, along with Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story by Sarah Kuhn and Arielle Jovellanos.
[major spoilers below!!]
Tumblr media
Girl Taking Over features a Japanese Lois, and it's so tightly written in that the author clearly saw how Lois' being Asian added to and made more sense for her character! They took all that Pulitzer winning excellence and channeled it into anxieties about being a model minority. Truly excellent, give it a read! Unfortunately she doesn't meet Clark in that story (understandably they want her to stand on her own for this YA book), but you meet other Metropolis characters!
Tumblr media
I love the way Clark is written as an immigrant in Smashes the Klan and that little moment we have with him and Lois at the end feels like it would hit so much harder if it was the Lois from Girl Taking Over. She's fearless sure, but what if she identified with Superman?
That's what I want to do with my comics! But I want her to be Southeast Asian (Indonesian) because that's what I am hahaaa I can pull more personal experiences when I write her that way (and make her say fun cultural in-jokes). Anyway! Give these comics a read!

frankly i think the best way to differentiate fanon sky and canon sky is to take a look at groose's redemption arc. both forgive him for the bullying but fanon sky says "he didn't mean it!" Canon sky says "i deserved it"
(for reference, canon sky is sky as shown in the game/inferred directly from sksw)
#chicken scratch#smoke & ashes#lu sky#linked universe#would like to say that this post came to me about a hypothetical ghirahim redemption arc#and the post very nearly works albeit at a more extreme level (because yknow. the Murders)#but the problem is that groose antagonized link specifically#but ghirahim didn't give a shit about link he was just fucking around the first time you meet him#he only plays with link because he's in the way of getting to zelda#so link doesn't matter to him he just wants to hurt zelda#and that's the difference. theres why a ghirahim redemption arc would never work#sky doesn't give a shit about himself his low self esteem takes care of that#but as soon as you go after his loved ones it is over#sky is such an emotional person#he loves quickly and it's so easy to weasel your way into his heart#and it takes a very special kind of antagonization *cough hylia cough* to make him hate you forever#UNLESS you come after his friends. shortcut to being in the bad books forever.#he will kill you for one (1) corn chip#his low self love plus his high emotions and love for his friends equals this disaster of a man#and is why canon sky would never say i deserve it about ghirahim#he fully believes ghirahim is an asshole (which is true) and NOTHING he does is deserved#in skys mind nothing ghirahim did to him matters#it's the fact he wants zelda that means all bets are off and ghirahim's fucked#it's not about sky it's always about his loved ones#but i have indeed read fanfic where fanon sky is like oh this is ghirahim he tried to kill me it's all good now#so yea fanon sky would still say he didn't mean it#ok but like twisted ghira redemption arc where he realizes demise isn't the allpowerful master he thought#this god was just beaten by a pissed off teenager yknow what a fucking joke#anyway#ghira ends up thinking a lot about it being like so demise wasn't the right guy to follow

so, then, what IS up with miguel o’hara’s moral backbone?
lol sorry if y’all’re sick of my 2099 soapboxing. anyways.
while i understand where the reading of “miguel is a morally bankrupt evil scientist and his spider-man is just a violent shitheel” comes from, i just... really can’t ever get behind it, based on what we see in the text of SM2099 v1 (1992-1996) itself.
like, don’t get me wrong-- from our first introduction to the guy, we very quickly learn that he has been a cog in the machine for one of the 2099 imprint’s Big Bads, the ruthless megacorporation in charge of the United States’ East coast: Alchemax.
..but. like.
the whole point of his origin story is changing that. the initial catalyst for his Spidering--getting roofied by Tyler when he tries to quit his job--would not have happened if he had no moral compass to speak of.
narratively, it’s less that miguel himself is changed, after he gets his powers, but that his perception of the world has changed.
just-- just bear with me, yeah?
see, for a lot of his life, miguel was a perfect cog in a shitty machine, and he did everything he was expected to without even thinking to stray from the path set down for him by his biological father and by alchemax overall.
and, then, suddenly, that’s all ripped from him in an instant. and miguel’s left floundering in the water.
he’s no longer on the winning team-- more than that, he realizes that he probably never even was on the right side of things, to begin with.
miguel o’hara’s most-quoted line is his response to the infamous “great power,” bit: Great responsibility? No. With great power comes great guilt.
he’s repressed, and he’s a hypocrite, but a guy can only turn a blind eye so far when something he knows is wrong is happening right in front of his face.
as soon as it’s even suggested to him, he immediately steps out of line and tries to put his foot down on absolutely not using a human test subject for his personal spider-man project. when stone brushes him off and makes them go through with human testing anyways, and then the subject dies, miguel doesn’t hesitate to turn up his nose and walk out right then and there on the spot.
his reward for it, of course, is an ice-cold dose of Reality.
from there, his blinders get pulled harshly off his face, and mig realizes that he really doesn’t want to keep being the person that he has been. his life has been wasted sitting idly by and letting bad things happen because all he knows is helpless compliance, right up until he goes and gets himself The Fly’ed into spider-man.
and once that happens, and he Realizes it, he starts to fight back.
that’s how the run is kick-started, in the very first three issues!
the first ten issues of spider-man 2099 (1992) follow miguel stumbling from a very sheltered life, having been thrust head-first into navigating a world that is not only deeply, deeply unjust, but also wants him very, very dead.
he don’t got a dead uncle to motivate him! all he’s got it his own fear and an inner desire to use his new abilities to try and make the world a better place.
hell, the first time he put on the costume, ol’ miggy boy wasn’t even doing so for the purpose of becoming a superhero in his off-time-- it was just an old spare in his closet that he threw on in a desperate attempt to Not Fucking Die as a bounty hunter tracked him to his home.
it’s only later on, after he’s had time for it all to sink in, that miguel realizes that he can actually meaningfully help the people who had been cast aside by the same society that had previously lifted him up above them.
as much as he whines and bitches and moans about it, he never seriously considers throwing in the towel and hanging up the costume for good. he may hate what has happened to him, but he never once seems to hate what he can now do with his powers, vis-à-vis challenging injustice.
mig’s often stuck between a rock and a hard place, what with the kind of world he lives in. it’s why he don’t work well when he’s stranded away from his dimension. peter can get his villains locked up just fine and dandy, but miguel’s world isn’t like ours like that. it’s brutal and it’s very very much established across the imprint that earth-928 (marvel 2099) is a kill-or-be-killed place to live.
despite how people harp on him not having a no-kill rule, miguel honestly hasn’t even killed enough people to count on one hand; the first was completely by accident, even, and the second told him to his face that if spider-man let him live he’d just keep being a cannibal gang-boss because no one else ever has or would try to oppose him.
is killing people the answer? not if you have any other option. but. mig ain’t a friendly neighborhood superhero. he’s just doing what he thinks is right in the moment while scared absolutely shitless for his life most of the time.
now, i don’t mean to defend his every action--miguel o’hara isn’t a saint, and, good god, but he’s made some questionable choices--but. at the end of the day, he’s still shown throughout the run to be trying to be better.
and, i dunno. maybe i’m just a sentimental little sap, but a story about somebody who finally “wakes up” and struggles to build a life worth being proud of after years of having shut down from heavy early-life trauma? that hits, man.
hits real close to home, to be honest. learning to Live after so long simply Surviving is fuckin’ hard, man.

okayokayokay... hear me out. Barbie Fairytopia AU where everything is the same, except the necklace the Enchantress gave Elina didn't give her wings, she instead got the power of Magic Footsteps.
[ID: a digital art sketch of the characters Dandelion and Elina from Barbie Fairytopia running/flying through a field of flowers. Dandelion is a slender fairy with long pigtails, a skirt made of dandelion fluff and petals, and pixie wings fluttering behind her, orange and white sparkles trailing behind her as she flies excitedly by Elina. Elina is a taller, likewise slender fairy but, diverging from canon, she doesn't have wings and is instead running on glittering, magical, platforms that appear wherever she steps, while Dandelion flies beside her. She's wearing a dress with a layered, rose-petal skirt, with a sleeveless top with two petal-like decorations that trail off her shoulders. Her hair is in a low bun. The two are looking at each other and smiling. /END ID]

something that frustrated me and lok is that kya and bumi, when talking with tenzin made it seem like aang didnt want to share his culture with either of them
like, i can believe the favoritism, unfortunately i know first hand that parents can be super obvious about it, but i just don't believe that aang wouldn't want to share his NEARLY EXTINCT culture with ALL his kids! like yeah they couldn't do ALL of it bc they werent airbenders, but they had air nomad blood and i think that would MEAN something to aang
like idk, i think the favoritism resentment could have been written better, i believe in it, but it felt less believable than it could have been idk

man i really really love exploring ray's relationship with singing. it's obviously something very personal to him because we only ever see him do it as a sort of coping mechanism in extremely stressful situations, and i love thinking about him eventually feeling comfortable enough to share such a vulnerable part of him with his family y'know?
idk if he would continue to sing isabella's lullaby specifically with how much. emotional baggage the song carries, and i definitely think he might want to distance himself from it as he processes the abuse he experienced, and i also love the idea of ray making new songs to share with his family as he grows and heals. yeah i think about ray singing a lot
