the way I would wither up and die like a flower given too much of something good if I saw a good omens thiam fic written like Paper Moon by Skaboom. it's insane to me that it hasn't been done yet. like not even a one-shot or smth??
Fit: This is actually kinda fun. Ok, so: Cucuruchito, what is your favorite food?
Cucuruchito: Oh darling, as an entity I don't eat, however, I am quite partial to the idea of a charming quesadilla. They are the star of my home, Quesadilla Island, after all. Now, what about you, sweetie? What tantalizes your taste buds?
Fit: I mean, Cucuruchito, you keep talking to me like that, I mean uh... [Laughs] Called me "sweetie," I mean, I dunno what's gonna happen. Um, my favorite food is probably... steak. [He shrugs] Maybe that's why I like Brazil so much.
Cucuruchito: Oh, Fit, you've got me blushing like a ripe tomato! I can see that you're the steak to my sizzling hot plate. Don't you think our conversation has more sizzle than a steak on a hot grill? Perhaps we could have that steak together next time and add more spice to this little rendezvous. Winking face.
Fit: [Dying in the background, trying to compose himself] WHAT THE FCK. WHAT?! [Shouts]
Cucuruchito:
Fit: [Runs away and laughs] Fck it, I can't I can't, I can't do this, I can't do this, I can't fcking do this. I cannot do– [Laughs]
very specific f/o / selfship type I love: looks like they could kill and would kill, or even have killed. hardened, rough, strong, imposing, merciless, such a dangerous reputation that their mere presence strikes fear in the hearts of everyone who sees them... except you. they are so kind and tender and gentle with you, they make you feel safe with them, they take every precaution not to hurt you in any way. they are soft for you
inspired by Twitter posts about Lucerys showing up to court in this pearl lingerie set and blowing Aemond’s virginal, incel mind to absolute smithereens, bringing him to his knees in a public space like the loser he is. I don’t know which Lucemond Twitter account talking about this specifically caught my attention, so lemme know/tag them if you do bc they got the gears in my brain TURNING ok I went into a trance and when I awoke, Luke dripping in pearls appeared. As he should. Also, fun fact, the reference pic had white pearls but I used Tahitian/black pearls instead, because Team Black, and also they’re generally more rare.
@twincomets i present these pics as proof. I swear it happened and got confirmation that there is, indeed, a god in this universe! how exciting
the opening of into the depths - the thought experiment about the swamp - sticks in my head, because, well. because it's interesting why it's stuck in hera's head.
narratively, of course, it serves two purposes: 1) to frame and present a question about what happened to lovelace, and 2) to connect what is currently happening to lovelace to what hera experiences when she reboots. (which: combined with the ways lovelace is also paralleled to eris, one of an infinite potential iterations of herself, serving a similar purpose for the dear listeners that eris does for goddard - there is even a perspective from which you could argue lovelace is herself "an AI" that i think presents some interesting questions. regardless, the struggle lovelace and hera share in having their humanity recognized is deeply significant to me.)
in-universe, though: why was that thought experiment put in hera's head, for her to think about while she reboots? well. lovelace's s4 arc centers on a certain type of self doubt: she fears a loss of self, of personal identity and continuity of experience, and she fears it's already happened. if hera thinks about this thought experiment as she reboots - does she fear the same? does part of her always worry that the version of her that comes back online is not the same as before? i think that's the purpose.
part of it may be general cruelty, in the same way pryce threatens to give her "a new recurring nightmare" as punishment, but making hera doubt her continuity of experience feels like a very intentional aspect of how she's been dehumanized - it encourages her not to think of herself as a full person, and casts doubt on her future. consider ep 52, where hera hasn't done a full reset of her personality program in months, and is notably hesitant to. or ep 48, where she initially votes against leaving (which is emotionally complicated for multiple reasons, but that's a whole other topic.) it's not the only factor, but i believe hera has lovelace's identity crisis in mind, and i think that casts a certain light on these interactions.
most importantly: these things are not true. she's being emotionally manipulated. obviously. but the fear, i think, is very real, especially in the context of trauma. lovelace's death and resurrection as a clone of herself, from a more metaphorical standpoint, is a strong emotional representation of having been changed, on some unseen but fundamental level, by trauma. lovelace fears that she can't go home because she's already died, and whoever she is now is just something else trying really hard to be isabel lovelace. hera has a hard time imagining a life on earth because she's never really had one, but i think part of her also fears she can't go back because of how it might change her - it's not that she prefers things the way they are, but she fears she'd lose something fundamental and be a different person if her circumstances changed. both of them returning home, and having futures in spite of that fear, means something to me.
i think what rubs me the saddest way about the 'pen ghosts colin and makes him grovel for her forgiveness' narrative playing out on screen is that it would just be heartbreaking from Colin's perspective in such a pointed way, but i don't know if it could conclude with any real satisfaction when he's a fleshed out character
i look at colin and i see a lost, lonely person who is trying so hard to fit in and be loved and understand himself, trying to learn and come into his own, never really clicking with much of anyone in a meaningful way, not completely. how so much of charm is people pleasing, wanting to be wanted. how he told Pen that he was starting to really believe that she 'would never forsake' him, how he praised and admired her loyalty, her friendship, how he started to really open up to her. how he told her she inspired him. how grateful he was that she tried to keep him from heartache. how she was one of the few people who didn't talk down to him about discussing his travels, who would listen to him like he listened to her.
and how she will forsake him in that narrative, for one comment, for one action in all the entirety of their friendship. how she will show him, truly solidify, that what he thinks of himself when he's feeling particularly low, that he's empty inside, not worth taking seriously, just a charming mask of a person, that he's not even worth keeping around if he isn't always being as perfect as he can be, is true.
i think this narrative could absolutely be done well! or it could be light if it's played for the bit without delving into colin's character and really only focusing on penelope's. but i want to delve into his character. i crave his perspective, want to know more that shaped him into being who he is. and exploring that, looking into it, the more it feels like that narrative couldn't be played for laughs. it could be gut wrenching, poignant. but it would take time, would have to unfurl. because when someone does that to you, when they decide you aren't worth the effort, the time (for a returned letter, for an explanation or any familiarity, stripped even of a nickname) it's so hard to heal it all. even more so when you were so close.
how he'd always worry about saying anything wrong to her from then. how he'd always have it in the back of his head: is this the one she leaves me for? again? because what if she decides he isn't worth it? she decided once, why not a second time? and, worse: what if she's right to? what if he really never had anything of substance worth holding onto in the first place?
any narrative can be a good narrative, a satisfying romance, if it's written well, if it explores and deepens a character, a connection, if it opens a new facet or shines light onto old ones so they reflect new colors. but i want to know Colin, in it. i don't want it just to serve half a ship's story. i want him to have a perspective, to have a background.
no matter what direction it all goes, what's gonna be done, it should be done in a way that serves the betterment of both their stories
Women’s self-image is as negative as ever despite the “body positivity” wave of choice feminism. Why?
I think one of the biggest reasons as to why women’s beauty standards and self-image are worse than even is because you can preach about unfair beauty standards all you want and tell women not to make fun of another woman’s looks but you can’t take away the social status and praise that women who are “beautiful” get from society (both men and women). You give them clout and praise them. Something both “body positivity” and “body neutrality” feminists do btw despite all the talk about acceptance.
It’s like saying you don’t support the ethics behind a product and yet still consume and buy it. In this case “beauty” being a luxury achieved via consumerism where women become the products (objects) that other women admire and obsess over. There is a demand so there is a supply PERIOD.
Women might not directly pursue beauty (“I do it for myself”) for men but nonetheless it’s definitely ingrained as a sign of status and that’s enough to cause a negative self-image in women who don’t participate. Men might have been the original perpetrators of installing unrealistic beauty standards for women but the victims (women) have also turned into perpetrators who can’t let go of the misogynistic status symbol of having value from appearances because it’s considered “culture”.
