Awakened Rivals; Friendship Awakened

I really appreciate Three Hopes and how they gave justice to Byleth’s and Shez’s characters. I hope everyone could just learn to appreciate these two and not slander on them.

But I digress. I am posting this because I’m on my way to Chapter 14 in Golden Wildfire, and I just had to post this. I never posted in Tumblr. My first post is that announcement of having the game back in 24th of June. This is my second post now. But anyway,

Byleth’s whole story and personality in Three Hopes is such a delight (most especially after I recruited them. God, I love them so much), and I honestly fell in love with them as a character (I couldn’t do this back in Three Houses. I couldn’t connect with them. Three Hopes did it right). Literally the whole time after I recruited them I was like, “THAT’S MY BESTIE RIGHT THERE. LET’S TALK PLEASE”. I was THAT enamored at them (I chose male!Byleth for my first play through). I went ballistic after learning their likes, (that lucky PERFECT CONVERSATION I had with them had me crying. They were my second PERFECT CONVERSATION. They’re so simple and it makes me want to learn more about them huhu), their interests, and that “NONE” description on the dislikes section in particular is so perfect. They really incorporated Byleth as a character, but at the same time they also showed that Byleth is an avatar that a player is free to place themselves with. At least, that’s what I interpreted it as.

Shez, on the other hand, I already fell in love at the start after playing the demo, but dear lord they are so fascinating to watch. They appear as a dork at first (those supports, especially that A-support with Lysithea. I just can’t with them. I love them so much I just can’t 😭😭 I won’t say anything more beyond that. That would be giving out some spoilers, but once you accessed it, you’ll know what I mean), but they also have this quirky, street-smart, blunt kind of personality (I could drone on and on about my purple haired bestie but this would have to do at the meantime), AND I. LOVE. THEM. FOR IT. They’re really fleshed out and I just— it’s really good.

Instead of the “Jason vs Percy” rivalry we should have gotten Annabeth vs. Jason but instead of a fight for power it’s them having a battle of autism cause their special interests were Greek myths vs Roman myths.

Jason calls a Greek god by their Roman name and Annabeth pops up out of nowhere and goes “erm, actually”

The 7 is talking about some landmark and Annabeth and Jason start arguing about which pantheon it was dedicated to.

“It’s amazing right? It was dedicated to Athena.” “Erm, it was actually built for Mars…”

there's something to be said about gale telling peeta that katniss will choose the person she can't survive without - a sentiment that katniss notices lacks any mention of love or comfort or affection, only partnership and practicality. because survival is the basis of gale and katniss's relationship - their relationship is the product of an oppressive regime where so many people starve and die and suffer. they built a partnership out of pragmatic necessity - friendship and affection and yes, even love, did spring from that, but nevertheless, survival was the foundation for them, and the fact that the majority of their dynamic is spent in the woods and this is the only place gale sees her happy is symbolic of that.

but her relationship with peeta is extremely different. he gives her laughter and comfort and joy no matter where they are. he balances out the temperamental and volatile nature (a characteristic she shares with gale as a result of their conditions) with peacefulness and an appreciation for beauty and goodness. they have a trust and camaraderie and friendship that extends far beyond the need for survival, a bond that connects them beyond merely the need to stay alive and protect their loved ones. it is with peeta that she truly lives and laughs and loves and betters herself. peeta notices and brings out the most wonderful parts of her cold, dispassionate exterior (mockingjay, suzanne collins), gives her an appreciation for beauty in life (dandelion in the spring, the pearl on the beach, etc). he's the calmness and peacefulness that she needs to truly live and feel free and safe, while gale is violence and storms and outbursts (which she may agree with, but his tendencies to choose violence don't satisfy katniss's emotional needs in a relationship like peeta does).

to gale and katniss, love and relationships and friendships and human connection come second to practical concerns and the mere desire to simply not die. for peeta and katniss, love and life are about far more than just survival, which is why they share an emotionally charged connection that's stronger than what gale and katniss have.

Peeta has said many charming things, but this line always has me giggling and kicking my feet. I don’t understand how Katniss was so strong.

Suzanne really decided to create the perfect man: he can bake and paint, he’s charming but not cocky, and is really kind and caring only to then strip and distort his entire personality, thanks suzanne.

I kinda hate how they changed this in the movie. Even in the paragraphs before this they had this flirty banter that was so so good. The movies erased or changed nearly all of their banter though.

But, anyway - Peeta Mellark is the blueprint that no other book boyfriend has lived up to.

part of me is surprised they gave this scene to crooked and blue instead of to oak as to build up their relationship more, but i genuinely like crookedpaw trying to crack jokes to try and ease cats into staring at him less. the two are fun to read interacting and i one hundred percent get why people feel crookedblue would have been more interesting for canon
