I do know that before they took to the seas, they lived in the mountains studying druidry, astronomy, astrology, and jewelrymaking under a crystal dragon (they're a one shot character, go big or go home tbqh) which I'd actually love to flesh out more at some point-- I had a lot of the basic idea for Indigo's interests and personality before looking at feats got me to look into gem dragons, and I was actually a little surprised at how well crystal dragon lore felt like it fit Indy's Vibe :3

They took up sailing out of a desire for a change of scenery; with their extensive background studying the stars it was pretty easy to get into navigation. At some point their ship was attacked by pirates and they were pressed into service, and it was FRANKLY a huge relief because it turns out sailing with merchants is fucking boring. Their motivations for piracy are very much the Romanticized Golden Age Piracy kind-- freedom, adventure, treasure, excitement. Basically, they're pirating on a lark. They're a little bit of a scallywag and a chronic bullshitter-- they've got dozens of stories about what happened to their missing eye and they're always giving obviously shitty and made up horoscopes, but they take their jobs onboard seriously even when they seem to have a laid back and lackadaisical attitude about it.
