side note, do we have a name for the spiderverse cinematic universe? Outside of the MCU, I know they're part of it but I want something to refer to the spiderverse plots specifically. ITSV, ATSV, and BTSV all refer to their specific movies, and spiderverse is annoyingly long for my ADHD brain to type out. Maybe we could call it SVCU, for "spiderverse cinematic universe"?

Peni Parker

models fashion in her spare time, not for money she just likes trying on cute outfits. Outside of that she posts a lot of pictures of Spider and any cool landscapes she comes across.

She has the most followers becuz she has actually interesting content with her fashion shit, and none of its pervy she's a teenager who likes clothes don't make it weird. She doesn't do suggestive shit just genuine fashion or styling types.

His username includes the earth he comes from becuz he's a professional.

his story is just rubix cube shit, he owns a bunch of different kinds. Posts are mostly Peni, his honorary adopted child.

He didn't write the description on his profile, Hobie did. I headcanon then as best friends aka Hobie annoys the shit out of him and he's completely fine with it. He only follows Peni + Hobie ofc.

Gwen Stacy

When writing her description I was going to change it to something else because the joke was super dumb, until I realized that it totally fits her character.

She follows a ton of people but doesn't post so doesn't expect to be followed back. Miles, Hobie, and Jess are her three followers.

She doesn't follow Miles back because I feel like it fits with the whole premise of the second movie, and Pav was going to follow her but couldn't find her page and never bothered to ask about it.

Pavitr Prabhakar

He follows all his friends plus some, except Gwen for reasons stated above and Miles-1610. He was following Miles at some point, but 42 removed all three of 1610's followers for shits and giggles once, Pav never noticed.

He posts the most out of all of them, lots of memes honestly but sometimes pics of his friends. He's not technically "part of" the band, because he doesn't play an instrument or anything, but he helps them write songs and shit so it still counts.

I feel like I keep complaining about across the spiderverse even though it was a delightful and gorgeous movie. bc like I know this is part of the point and the next movie will prove that miguel is wrong and miles is right but it feels so weird to have all these spidered-mans as part of an elite strike force in the generic "society if" meme solarpunk dimension. they're spiders-mans! for sure if a bunch of wonder womens or captains american from different dimensions met each other they would work together in a scifi dimension and set up all kinds of rules. that just isn't the spiderman vibe. even if they were doing exactly the same thing trying to save canon I wish they had been portrayed as more of a ragtag guerrilla group

i find it really funny and maybe shows someone's fandom age a bit when someone points at the new spiderman game footage and go 'oh peter's taking aunt may's death really hard he's not coping with the grief well.' as if that's all that's happening.

its this feeling of 'oh you poor sweet summer child its so much more than grief.' i know spider-man 3. i expect asshole emo peter. i expect riffs on the memes, both in game and in the fandom.

and i'm not pointing at people who don't know what's going on and laughing cos they're dumb in some way. no, i'm excited! and we have miles now too so he'll experience this shit first hand have to figure out what's going on too. i am not going to spoil it for newcomers. i want to see people's pure unspoiled reactions. i cannot wait.

In DDMG, April and Kirby end up knowing about Splinter before the Jones do. Like Casey knows Raph has an adoptive dad, but he doesn't know said dad is the NYC Rat Man.

And I realised this means that the parents group starts out as a group of three dads doing their best to look after all the kids and said dads are:

a happily married social worker who is trying to treat this rat demon adopting four human children as much like a normal adoption as possible, in part to avoid thinking about the whole "demons and ghosts are real" thing. Very competent at his job, his wife definitely knows about all this, no way in hell he was keeping this from her

A recently widowed psychologists who's work mostly involves putting rats through mazes and very recently got tenure. Is trying to help his daughter deal with the loss of her mother, whilst also struggling to come to terms with it himself. Friends with Dr Rockwell, which results in the spiderman pointing meme when they realise both of them know/ are friends with Splinter

a ghost who left behind a wife and child, and recently emotionally adopted four children. Is the youngest of the group, regardless of whether or not you include the years after his death, and is trying extremely hard to be the best father he can with zero experience or preparation for raising four young kids. Was apparently a ninja before he died, which somehow is not the wildest peice of information about him

Just these three doing their best to support one another. Splinter asks Kirby and Samson a lot of questions regarding parenting advice, and sometimes vents about being dead. Like he knows there's still so much he can't do for the boys, and fears that they're missing out on experiences a living parent could give them, like being there in person at their competitions rather than lurking in the shadows, and sometimes that gets to him.

Kirby will talk about his wife and ask if they've got any ideas for how to help April, cause Kirby never feels like he's doing enough. He's doing as much as he can, and April is happy, but her mother died only recently and it feels like there's this big gapping whole where she used to be and Kirby knows he can't fill it, and he fears that means he's letting April down. It doesn't help that they don't really have family he can ask for help. There's his sister who does what she can, such as letting them move in with her when they first moved to New York, but she travels a lot for work and Kirby could do with a shoulder to cry on.

Samson takes a while before he starts opening up about his own concerns, largely because he's used to shouldering things on his own. He always worries about blancing being a good dad to his son and his work, because there's so many kids who need his help but he's got a kid at home who needs him to be there for him too. There's also just a lot about his job that wears away at him - Samson never feels like he can do enough to help the kids assigned to him, and runs himself ragged trying to go above and beyond. It does him good to see the Turtles thrive with Splinter, even after they're not his case anymore, because he can see that here's something good he did and, if nothing else, those boys have a good life ahead of them.

All three of them vent about work to be honest, which one day leads to:

Samson: Jeez he sounds horrible to work with.

Splinter: BITE HIM.

Kirby: ...

Samson: ...

Kirby: ... eh?

Splinter: I SAID BITE HIM. VICTOR WOULD NOT STOP ANTAGONISING PEOPLE AND BEING GENERALLY UNPLEASANT-

Samson: So you bit him?

Splinter: HE CHALLENGED ME TO A FIGHT. WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?

Samson: You're a ninja master, try that! Why did you bit him?

Splinter: HE BIT ME FIRST AND I RETALLIATED.

Kirby: Wait, wait, wait, which one is Victor?

Splinter: I THINK APRIL SAID PEOPLE ONLINE CALL HIM SPIDER BYTEZ

Kirby: Oh, okay, I know who you mean now. The eight legged one with the acid spit?

Splinter: YES! HE HAS AN EQUALLY CAUSTIC PERSONALITY I AM AFRAID.

Kirby: Don't he and Raph hate each other? What happened there?

the fact that they made the guy who got hit in the head with a bagel in the first movie the main villain this time had me cackling. if i had a nickel for every hit movie about the multiverse with a bagel/black hole themed antagonist... i'd have 2 nickels

i liked having more gwen focus/backstory! the watercolor-ish rendering of her world was really cool and pretty. although it was kind of weird to hear her quipping so much in the beginning, feels kinda unnatural for her character which to me comes off as too uptight/reserved for that...

new spider people are cool. SPIDER PUNK!! (isn't he an adult man tho? hate to touch on age gap discourse but kinda weird that they're making jokes about him and gwen...) although some of them haven't gotten to do much yet, especially not the motorcycle lady. kinda weird that they're trying to have her be a mentor to gwen but with most of their relationship development implied/happening off-screen. we'll see where that goes i guess. i like the synth/sound/leitmotif for miguel, so cool!

the cliffhanger ending took me by surprise, i really thought this would be a standalone movie. the whole theater went "NOOOOOO!" lol

very cool "you're the first anomaly" revelation for miles, excited to see the conclusion to that! omg the themes!!!

as always very creative uses of animation (slight mp100 vibes at times even), like spider punk's zine aesthetic, the lego animation (apparently done by a 14 year old fan animator! wow!!!), some nice 2D animated segments, and even some live action moments. i didn't understand all the references tho as a mostly non superhero/spiderman fan. not really sure why donald glover was there tbh. THEY PUT IN THE POINTING MEME THO AHHHHHH!

Just found out about the crushing au and just yes. Jekyll deserves to be loved and happy goddammit! 

I like to think that at first none of the Lodgers actually know that everyone is crushing on the same person. But they do talk about it with each other and they keep their crushes vague enough where the others don't figure it out but still be like "aww reminds me of Henry :)" And there's Maijabi and Cantilupe slowly putting the pieces together. With the realization going hey that kinda sounds like my boy, wait they're talking about My Boy >:0! Ooo and maybe going to the lodgers saying that they figured their crush out and to threaten them about not hurting him or else. When they do eventually find out it’s just gonna be like the Spider-Man meme. 

And Jekyll being so oblivious to everything. To the point where any one of them could confess right to his face (if they can muster up the courage) and Jekyll going “I’ma horribly misinterpret that as platonic or something else.” It also doesn’t help that he’s just so polite. Let me walk you home, hey I can help you with that, do you need anything or anything to eat, you can join me for dinner/tea :), eta. Because Jekyll is a gentleman and he plays the part and it’s just polite but he’s kinda lowkey flirting with them.

Maijabi and Cantilupe going "HOw dARE yoU HAVe A CRUSH ON MA BOI IF YOU HURT HIM--" is a thought I absolutely love to imagine. Them just sitting around enjoying all the younger Lodgers gushing on and on about their crush as if all of them suddenly got love sick at the same time, and they are just listening to it until they both go huh... Hold on a minute... Hm... Sounds like-- Sounds like my boi they are talking about... Na na, can't be my boy. They are not allowed to crush my BOY. MY SON. My good son that is way too good for them NO. And then the more they talk the more they realise that they are talking about Henry. I like to imagine Maijabi threatening some of the other guys and Cantilupe threatening some of the girls and the two of them meet up later and Maijabi just sighs and says that "god, I figured out who X has a crush on-- It's Henry." and Cantilupe just doing the pointing spiderman meme and going "I just talked to Y and they also have a crush on him!"

Turns out they both figured out and both began to threaten Lodgers because they are very protective of their son (especially if they, as kinda Henry's substitute parents, actually know vaguely about him and Lanyon or just that all of Henry's relationships have ended badly), and it also turns out that every Lodger has a crush on Henry. The poor heart attacks of Maijabi and Cantilupe. It would be the classic "Dad threatening to shoot their daughter's boyfriend if he hurts her" / "Over protective dad that refuses to let their daughter get a boyfriend because no matter how old they are they are still too young and dumb" situation except Maijabi and Cantilupe fucking would shoot someone if they dared to hurt Their Boy. A lodger would try to woe Jekyll and Jekyll would be oblivious but the Lodger would see Maijabi and Cantilupe with baseball bats in the background-- /hj

I love the thought of Henry being completely oblivious but still being so sweet and not wanting to make assumptions, only making his courters swoon even more because he is always so caring and nice and invites them to tea and escorts them home or to their labs or whatever. Henry is just so sweet and charismatic and optimistic and social and he just likes being nice and having people to talk to. Also love the thought of Henry being oblivious but still lowkey flirting with all of his courters and just... Yes pls <3
