Thinking about the way dungeon meshi does queer horror. Using horror to tell queer stories is already subversive, but dungeon meshi subverts it even more
Normal queer horror is like. A monsterous desire and immortal love of something isolated/hated and the uncontrollable but suppressed need to consume someone to live and they only die if you break/pierce their heart. its great.
In dungeon meshi, the group is STARVING. they do things the way they're expected to and they're so deprived that eventually, one of them is consumed by that monsterous desire.
Then when Falin becomes a monster, she doesn't eat Marcille because she doesn't NEED to, Marcille already offered herself up as part of Falin by mixing her own blood with the dragon's for the resurrection.
Also Marcille is a monster too!! She doesn't need to be turned by Falin. She's a 'witch' doing black magic for one but she's also very vampiric
Her name is super vampirey especially given one of the translation spellings was Marcilla, an annogram of Carmilla*. And Marcille is very similar to Marceline from Adventure Time so it's a name with heavy connotations to me. Also her staff is Ambrosia which means immortal.
*ps Carmilla is the original modern vampire that inspired Dracula and also a lesbian. she used annagrams of her name (Marcilla, Mircalla, Millarca) to disguise herself across hundreds of years.
Marcille is like. a vampire in that death is a big part of her theme. She can breathe that immortality into someone else using her resurrection black magic and death is a huge part of her character. She wants them to live as long as she does. To make them immortal. Like. Like a vampire. Vampires which are unholy when her love interest is a cleric.
But once again this is subverted!! she doesn't 'turn' Falin, she makes her undead by giving her own blood instead of taking Falin's. Falin becomes a monster not because she's attacked or turned, but because her DNA, something INHERENT about her is now intertwined with the monster. so a god-like figure merges them. Then the only way to free her from that frenzy and grant her autonomy again is to finally consume her. something inherently lesbian about all that i think idk about you

I hate when there's a queer ship, and people will fight tooth and nail with you because they insist that those characters are definitely not queer, even though there is no proof that they aren't. Their only "proof" is that they see straight as the default and can't imagine a character being queer without it being specifically stated, but have no problem assuming a character is straight even though it's never talked about. "Well, they only dated people of the opposite gender!" Okay? You know how many queer people have only dated people of the opposite gender? It doesn't mean they're not queer or that they would never date someone of the same gender. It's just all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify homophobia, let's be real here.

I am very interested in these ocs
*cracks knuckles*
OKAY!
(you have opened Pandora's box >:D )
So a quick background on this fandom so I'm not just spouting incomprehensible gibberish. Nier Automata is a game where humanity has been driven off the planet and into lunar colonies by invading aliens, who used machine lifeforms as their weapons. Humans responded by creating androids to fight against the machines. The androids and machines have been in a stalemate for centuries.
I have 2 OCs, Izzy and Vira. They're both androids. Izzy is a nickname for 11S, a scanner type model. Scanners specialize in recon and data gathering. She is overly curious, which is a known quirk of all scanners. For her, it comes up as she keeps picking up viruses from when she's hacking/scanning machines.
Vira, I don't have a model number for. But she's stationed on the Bunker, the orbiting space station that's this android group's base of operations. She works in hacking, debugging, and repairs. Basically she's an android doctor. She got the nickname because she's very good at dealing with viruses. Which she got because she works a lot with Izzy, who keeps picking up the damn logic viruses from the enemy, Izzy, you gotta be more careful!
If I go too far into the storyline it'll give spoilers for the actual game, but I'll give the setup for where I basically intend to start their story. Izzy picks up a virus and doesn't contain it well enough. She gets detained and wiped. Factory reset. This is sad, but it happens (pretty frequently, actually. The game is very philosophical about what it means to be who we are and how our memories affect our concept of 'self', which is a fascinating concept to play around with when you've got androids who literally upload and download their memory data).
Except Izzy has gone and done this enough times that the higher-ups decided to tinker with her settings on this reset. So the next time Vira sees model 11S, she's viscerally off-put because that's not Izzy. That's not her friend. This isn't right.
So Vira gets hit hard by the denial stage of grief. By which I mean she finds the data that wasn't uploaded to the server from Izzy's memory (because it's virus infested) and basically.... downloads it into herself. In a quarantined section, of course! She's not self-terminating! And then, because she's now on borrowed time until she gets found out and she gets wiped, she runs. She manages to get herself and Izzy's data down to Earth and starts hiding out among the other androids on the surface that aren't directly affiliated with the group she's from. Now she just has to do enough debugging to get Izzy's data decontaminated, and she can bring her friend back.

Listen up you idiot zoomers who think people can still make meaningful queer art past the year 2000. We all need to sit around and read USamerican comic strips from the 90s because those are pretty much the only true capture of the universal gay experience now and forever, and anything past that is unimportant schlock. And like pinkwashing I think. We have to learn queer history, thats why we need to all ignore that what Im talking about is joke comic strips from the 90s and instead revere them as the most important work created, with nothing capable of surpassing it. Anyway

[ Nikke spoilers for mid September 2024 update mini story / my comments on it. ]
Closeted trans dudes dressing up at the family function like:
It's such a familiar scene, for family to see you dressing up out of obligation and then being like, 'Oh, NOW you're so beautiful, you should do this more often.' And internally, your body is screaming that it feels so wrong, why did you perform your perceived gender for this event! Or like, for me personally too, the whole missing the vibe of the event and dressing up way more than anyone else, and then feeling so out of place. I've joked before about Red Hood having older brother vibes, maybe she has trans vibes for me too now, lol.
Also, strange that Liliweiss is saying 'for the future' to Red Hood. Who, y'know, is basically terminally ill (corrupted). Red Hood doesn't 'have' a future, she just has the present and past. At this point in this mini-story thing (I'm assuming it takes place around the time of the Red Ash event), is Liliweiss aware of the plans to integrate Red Hood into Rapi, and therefore 'have' a future? Or am I just reading into this way too much? Lol. Just sounded like a really weird and inconsiderate thing to say to her.
-
That aside, why the fuck did y'all vote the dress over the other two Red Hood skins?! I'm so disappointed, the other two were way cooler and not out of character:
((I mean, I guess it's technically in-character since it's canon now, and has to do with 'old music' but c'mon, man...))
Image description below cut:
First image: Red Hood from Nikke: Goddess of Victory is in a strappy and revealing dress. It's the same colour as her hair. She's embarrassed and standing next to a gramophone, while holding a champagne glass. She is also wearing fingerless half-palm leather gloves. Text: Red Hood: Oh jeez, I can't do this! I just can't!
Next two images: Text: Dialogue:
Commander: You did well in that outfit.
Red Hood: Anything was better than staying at that party, even fighting raptures. I've never been so glad to have a bunch of them show up.
Rapunzel: Your dress is all dirty, though. And the hem is all torn...
Red Hood: Who cares? It's not like I'm going to be wearing this ever again.
Liliweiss: Why not? I thought you'd be keeping it for the future.
Red Hood: No thanks. Not a chance.
Snow White: That's too bad. At least I finally got to see you all dressed up. Can I at least take a picture for posterity?
Red Hood: Absolutely not. I don't want to leave any evidence of this humiliating sight.
Last three images are the Red Hood skins/appearances that we voted on. First image is the feminine dress with the gramophone mentioned before, which won the poll. Second image is Red Hood on a motorcycle with a leather jacket, crop top, mini shorts, and thigh highs. Third image is Red Hood standing next to a wolf, and she is wearing form-fitted high-rise pants, a strappy harness bra-top and collar, and a cropped blazer.
