I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but the main reason Sparty is getting to have a tad more winter fat is that she is smaller, older, and has been more affected by cold in the last few years. Some is due to coat, but she's always had that coat, so I suspect some other physiological factors as well.

I like both of my dogs to be lean and trim, they both have light builds and it's better for their long-term health to not carry more than they need. Troja gains weight pretty easily these days, so sometimes she gets cut back a little.
