trans and autistic

this is just my personal account of how i feel being autistic has effected my transition. these experiences are in no way exclusive to being autistic and trans. i havent seen a post like this so i thought why not make it. cw gender dysphoria.

change. i dont like change.* unfortunately its kinda what transitioning is all about. when i first realised i was trans i thought i would never tell anyone. when i realised i wanted top surgery i cried. i kept questioning for years if top surgery was right for me because the idea of purposefully changing my body like that was so foreign to me. and yet i wanted it. it felt wrong to want it. it took long to get over my own bias that plastic surgery is unnatural or selfish and to accept why i myself wanted and needed it. after all that soul searching it was comparatively easier to realise i also wanted hrt. hrt means many small changes happening gradually, which made it easier for me to get comfortable with the idea. the fact that you can microdose it and that you can stop the treatment whenever you want to absolutely helped. it also helped to "try out" some of the effects. do i want a lower voice? i could feel it out by lowering my voice and doing voice training exercises (ofc not the same result as hrt but you get it). do i want more body hair? i reflected on how i felt about the sparse but present body hair i already have, and how it felt to find new hairs (euphoria!!) also ngl the tiktok beard filters helped. *thats a simplification, but many forms of change make me feel uncomfortable.

communication. i felt i needed to be absolutely 100% sure about my identity before coming out to Anyone. i struggle with unclear communication/instructions so i tend to assume other people also prefer more details rather than less details + i fear that other people will missunderstand me if im not clear enough. and in order to be clear i felt like i needed to Know beyond a doubt my gender, pronous and name. this lead to me being in the closet longer + seeking care later than i probably would have otherwise.

emotions. i struggle with anticipating other peoples reactions to stuff. i feared how my parents might react - would they cry? would they argue with me? would they think i was weird? and theyve literally been so chill about it. i would say my bar was on the floor but there really was no bar, i had no expectations at all because i couldnt even guess.

change again! asking people to use new pronouns and a new name. i first came out with using all pronouns. i now use he/they. saying i used all pronous felt easier because it meant no correcting people. turns out it wasnt right for me, and i kinda already knew that when i came out. but i felt i had to take it in small steps. i was never the one to cannonball into the water from the diving tower. i walk in slowly, one step at a time, rather putting my body through every small shock of cold against my skin than that one big shift. to some it might seem like self torture but to me it is the more comfortable choice. i wanted to come out but i wasnt ready to ask people to stop using she/her. so "all pronouns" became a stepping stone, one i am very grateful for. some people want nothing to do with their old name. im changing mine to the masculine coded version of my old name. calling it a new name is rich seeing as im just removing a few letters. i want the change to be as undramatic as possible, for both me AND for everyone else. other people being uncomfortable makes me feel Super uncomfortable. with the small change im making its easy to cover up if the worng name slips out. to me, my old and new names dont even have to be regarded as different names, just variations of the same name. yeah, i prefer the masc version, but tbh i will answer to anything that sounds remotely like my name. i just want it to be uncomplicated. in the same vein, my prefered pronouns are he/they, but im not going to correct everyone who calls me she/her. when and on whom i use that energy will be highly circumstantial.

special interests. ive done a lot of research. ive read a lot about gender affirming care, what it can (and cant) do, where and how you can get it, what people who have gotten it have to say. ive watched a lot of trans youtubers video essays and commentary, a lot of top surgery vlogs, and several videos made by medical professionals documenting the surgical procedure of detitification itself. ive joined several internet communities on facebook, discord and reddit to take part in other trans peoples knowledge, experiences and thoughts. ive prepared and held presentations on being trans on tdov. and i tend to forget that not every trans person ...does all that. (which is not a critique, i know its a lot.) (which is not a brag, i know im weird.)

societal norms. gender roles are weird right? and the whole concept of gender? thinking about it can give me a headache. i think autistic people are slightly more likely than allistic people to question the gender binary, simply because were more likely to not conform to social/societal norms. i initially identified only as non-binary. now i identify as a non-binary trans man. i do still wonder why i identify as a man - what makes me a man, what makes anyone a man, what makes me feel like a man. and i hate to say it, but i havent come up with a satisfactory answer. i just do. it doesnt completely make sense to me, but it makes more sense than anything else. at this point ive just accepted that some things give me gender euphoria, some things give me gender dysphoria, and all in all i think "man" describes me fairly well. i also think if id been amab i wouldve still identified as non-binary, just not had as much dysphoria nor required as much gender affirming care. i could go into further detail on my exact gender identity, but i also dont feel the need to be super open about it. not everyone needs to know every part of my identity. most people only need my name and pronouns. and as i said, i like it uncomplicated.

and for the relationships...

hilda and cheren have met back up a few years later after he recovered from zekroms attack and they get along pretty well. the only issues they have is cherens dishonesty and their views on whats best for hilbert [they both dont think hes gone forever <3]

hilda and bianca actually rub each other wrong (on accident) because hilda goes out of her way to talk to and impress bia and shes like "yiu know thats really stupid hilda. i dont like that" and hilda dies inside (lesbian

cheren and bianca ALSO conflict but because he doesnt like how she reminds him of stuff he cant remember and it drives him nuts. she just wants to be his friend and hes trying to stay at arms length

cheren and hilbert ... theyre kind of the same as bia and cher but he remembers him just a little bit more and his body seems to remember ! that hes got a little infatuation with him ever since they were little. so. he just tries to be level headed with hilbert and theyre weirdly not. like. friendly. (this changes of course these are for the beginning of greyfade)

Okay, apologies but I am going to ramble into your inbox and... ah, if you don't want me to, please just tell me?

I know I've made it clear that I'm frustrated with how the show is going but there are still tiny little details I can't stop staring at/analyzing. One such scene was when Cid was giving the boys the new job to Raxus and how Tech acted in that scene.

First off, his little jump when Cid mentioned Raxus. He was so excited about the idea, at least that's how I read his voice/expression in that second? I mean look at the boy! He likely wanted to go to Raxus his whole life, and now he gets to???

And then, even more interesting (and frustrating, because of what could have been!!!), was the fact that Tech was going to take the datadisk for the bounty from Cid. He was all for the job the instant Cid said it, because he sees it rationally instead of emotionally like everyone else in his team does.

He's going to take it but Hunter snatches it before Tech can, as Tech was the only one for taking the job at that instant. He even looks... excited? I don't know but there's no apprehension in his gaze that I can read at all here.

Once Hunter takes it though, look at Tech's expression shift...

I don't think he expected Hunter to take it? He seemed so excited/ready to take the job?

Then...

Tech looks over at Hunter with a ??? sort of expression, then he looks down briefly, as if he's... upset? I don't know how to voice what he's likely thinking in this moment...

and then!!! Tech... glares??? At Hunter?

First he just stares at Cid while Hunter talks to her:

And then, when Hunter turns back to his brothers, Tech looks like this ???

I saw that expression on Tech and I THOUGHT, like an idiot, he was actually going to stand up for himself and argue against all of his brothers saying "no" about the mission, by suggesting that there was no reason to not do this mission.

He sees it logical, as the only power is the Empire now, and the Seperatists are not their enemy, as the war is over. He sees the mission without sentiment like his brothers do and I would have died to see Tech stand up for one of his ideas and argue with his brothers, since he always looks to Hunter for permission/agreement/reassurance (such as when Singh told Tech to take the AT-TE down the alleyway and Tech looked towards Hunter for reassurance) on everything?

Sorry for blabbing at you like an idiot, but I just... wanted to see Tech stand up for himself? To actually not be his usual compliant/submissive self for once? But HAH, no, how dare the writers even think of challenging themselves and developing relationships between the brothers??

Plus adding Hunter's line that he always expected they'd end up going to Raxus eventually, I have to wonder if that's something the team has talked about before. I looked up info on Raxus - both canon and legends - to see if there was any specific detail that would get Tech that excited, but other than it being the center of the Separatist senate there wasn't much

Which makes me wonder why Raxus was a world of interest, but also has me wondering more of the details of their past missions. We know Anaxes was a favor to Cody, but other mission details weren't ever discussed, and so other than stealing Separatist information the only thing I could think of them going to Raxus for is for an assassination mission, and now im wondering if theyve ever been on missions of that sort.. hmm...

But thats another post for another time, and not the point of this ask akdjskdsl BACK TO THE BOY

I don't think we've seen this level of excitement from Tech so far, and the same can be said with his behavior toward Hunter.

We see Tech get annoyed with Wrecker, bicker and snark with Echo, I could go on and on about how I think he feels toward everything with Crosshair, but we haven't really see him get... anything with Hunter

Like you said, Tech is viewing the mission from a logical perspective - with the creation of the Empire, there are no Separatists. The Republic vs. Separatist conflict is over. We see that Tech is able to detach his emotions from situations (his explanation of what the war was like to Omega in Reunion) far more easily than the rest of his brothers. Hunter, Wrecker, and especially Echo (for good reasons) still have that emotional response and connection that Separatists are the enemy. No questions asked. I mean, its a huge reason for their existence as a whole, all the clones were taught and conditioned to see Separatists as the enemy

Going back to Tech's reaction to Hunter, I'd say he definitely meets Hunter's decision with surprise, bc well. The war is over, there's no reason for them to have any bias against a Separatist senator right? And like Cid says, a job's a job, and they need the credits.

It's this reaction right here that stands out to me the most

At least going off of my own physical mannerisms, the way Tech is holding his arm - I tend to do that when I'm trying to speak up about something, or when I'm nervous about talking. I couldn't find a gif of this scene to use here, but Tech also draws his arm to him a little closer and leans a bit more toward Hunter before dropping his arm and leaning back away and letting Hunter continue on with Cid.

So I really I don't think it'd be too off mark to think there was some possibility of him interrupting/confronting Hunter about declining the mission.

Plus, when Hunter and Cid talk about leaving Omega behind, you can see Tech, Wrecker, and Echo continuing to tall in the background, and at least it possibly looks to me like Tech is defending his point on taking the mission. Additionally, when they first land on Raxus and exit the Marauder, Tech says "I am simply stating that the codes did, in fact, work. The client being a Separatist is not relevant."

So I think Tech is defending himself and his views on the mission but it's all just. Unfortunately off screen. But I also think everything above that you pointed out is still important; against Echo and Wrecker, it's easier to defend himself bc Tech already has that sort of dynamic with them, and though Tech has shown to have a sort of "better to apologize than ask for permission" view when he makes decisions (getting the Marauder impounded) he still has the highest respect for Hunter, and Hunter's role as team leader.

I cant think of any instances off the top of my head, but up until now we've never seen Tech so much as question any of Hunter's decisions, and I really hope this is going to be a start of... not necessarily Tech losing any sort of faith in Hunter, but a start of him speaking out of what he thinks is right

It can't be a coincidence that he fell asleep with the scanner. Their immediate priorities thus far - taking out their own inhibitor chips and getting Omega back - have been accomplished. I. I really want to believe that - as small as insignificant as it may be - that this is a hint to Crosshair, that Crosshair has remained a priority to at least one of them.

I mean im sure he has remained a priority to all of them, but at least what we have gotten strictly in canon... well

This got long akdjs but yeah I think, and I really hope, that this is going to be a start to us seeing Tech have a less placid demeanor. I just wanna see him emotionally break, that's all 💞

my fave hurt/comfort scenario will ALWAYS be arguments.. especially in poly relationships. its a guilty pleasure of mine, being the third addition in bruabba’s relationship, arguments are inevitable. and since bruabba have been with eachother longer, its obvious that a little bias would be present. maybe its something abbacchio said, and bruno taking his side feels like theyre both ganging up on you until the floodgates take over and they realize how wrong they were and how theyve hurt you in the process, possibly making you feel more isolated from the both of them.. the rest of the night will obviously be filled with hugs and kisses and tear stained apologies (most likely from abbacchio)

ohhh i’m a sucker for an occasional hurt/comfort but i can’t take too much of it, i am soft! i think with poly ships where you come into an established relationship the jealousy aspect is very interesting to explore too; they’re always going to have been together longer, seem to understand better . . . it’s best when the other two realise what’s going on and it ends with lovely soft reassurances and kisses and the reminder that all three of you are equally important ;_;. 

i can definitely see abbacchio’s occasionally sardonic and acidic nature being the cause of a couple of arguments; especially if one day he does let slip something about how ‘you wouldn’t know, you haven’t known him as long as i have’ about bruno and he realises he’s overstepped the mark . . . bruno chides him and he apologises immediately, his stomach twisting into knots that you’ll remember this and hold it against him forever, before all of you realise that the way you know each other is different from the way they know each other, and what makes you work so well as a team is that balance . . .

on one hand im happy that this means there’s gonna be a lot of official content since the eps are supposedly so long that they gotta cut them in half. 

youku has been pretty consistent with giving us a relatively good amount of official content. but on the other hand im always slightly concerned that by splitting up perfs, those whose perfs get aired first will have a competitive voting advantage since (as long as they do well) those kids will have a full extra day of persuading people to vote for them through their stage performance. It’s not as huge of a deal as when other shows split performances across weeks, because a whole week ahead is a much bigger advantage than one day ahead. but every day can help those who need the votes. at least akey and zhan yu got aired today.... feels bad for jin fan because he really needs the votes. 

also another down side is just this show’s eps are SO LONG they’re eating up a ton of my free time LOOOL but thats how these shows always go for me... because I always end up taking like double the amount of time to watch an ep, just to pause, digest, rewatch sections that i like (sometimes multiple times), make sure i understand, etc. i feel like these shows always consume my life during the few months they’re airing so i’ll just enjoy it while I can HAH

im happy cui shaopeng got to feature in the bts clip for his group, he deserves it and hasnt gotten much screentime relative to his talent before. im happy akey got a little time and some recognition for his skills too. honestly just happy akey FINALLY got to do a rap stage..... wish we couldve gotten more huang enyu and huang junrong but im happy they got to show off their vocals!! for being young vocals in a rap performance, their stage presence were both really good too! csp’s entrance is epic wow. 

wow this is the most hyper performance ive ever seeeen wow im so happy for akey because we know how long hes been waiting for a rap stage and wow csp’s leadership must be top notch to get this group to somehow be cohesive with such a not cohesive song LOL i respect that csp really respected akey’s skill and let him shine too. akey was a second c if ive ever seen one lol. they both got to shine and so did everyone else in their group, which is telling of his leadership and why this stage turned out so well that even all the teachers like jackson were so hype LOL

(he looks really young wow and so tiny aw) but also like they never bring up akey being old either?? some sort of weird bias going on... but i mean good for yinghao and akey lol 

but aw im glad theyre giving yinghao some attention... 10 years and starting off with jackson? oof...

so.........um........clueless!!!

uhhhhhhh ok so first of all

I MET THOMAS

i was almost sure he would be there and in her typical fashion, my mom spotted him first lmao. i caught him by himself so i went up to him and told him im a huge descendants fan and wanted to say hi and that i was there for dove and he thought that was so cool and we got a picture and i told him how hype i am for D3 and he said its gonna be amazing

then the show and THE SHOW WAS FANTASTIC. and like listen i know im technically “biased” but hey i fell in love with the girl initially bc i love her acting skills! so like...i dont call that bias so much as personal taste? if that makes sense? but really she was incredible. hilarious, adorable, and girl can SANG. like we been knew but gurl can SAAANG ive had few other opportunities to see her sing live for that long. well technically one other time being mamma mia and that was from quite a distance, this time i was in like the fourth row. the whole show was just hilarious and adorable and lovably 90s. the whole cast was great. i finally watched the movie about a week ago and i think it REALLY kept the spirit of it. i think long time fans will be satisfied. it even kept a lot of the same dialogue, beyond just the most iconic lines.

and during intermission i spotted....the producer of jersey boys??? listen ive watched their tonys acceptance speech one too many times so i was like um i know that guy. and i told him how much i love the show and how i saw it for the 10th time last night and he was so cool.

went out into the lobby after the show to look for dove. caught thomas’ eye and smiled at him and he waved at me :)

met a lot of the cast and they were all great!!

then spotted dove and hfjghdfjkghdfjkh

her mom spotted me from the line and smiled and winked at me :D

as i moved closer dove spotted me and her face lit up and she waved

then i got up to her and got the usual “hi baby!!! so good to see you!!” and hug! gave her flowers (WHICH SHE LATER POSTED ON HER INSTA STORY????) (and when we got our picture she was like ‘let me put these beautiful flowers on display’) and told her the whole “my mom and i said like a year ago that whenever you inevitably made it to broadway we would be here for the first show” and she was like “oh yah i saw you in the audience!! in the front on the left, right?” and im like “..............YES??? HOLY SHIT????” (i thought id seen her look my way at one point but im like i doubt she saw me BUT SURE ENOUGH)

she even gave my mom a hug and thanked her for making all this happen. lots of hugs and i love yous for both of us as usual :)

WHJFKGHFJDKG so my mom said “we finally got to meet thomas for the first time! hes so cute ;)” and thomas was right by there so she was like “oh yah hes the best. hey tommy! they approve of you! and theyve been around longer than you have!”

then my mom congratulated her mom and we said bye to thomas

and then i walked through the cold of new york city crying

you know the drill. every time i get to see this girl, even if i dont get to meet her, is beyond BEYOND special, but this is one of the most special experiences weve ever had. its one ive dreamed of for so long. not only to get to meet her but to see her work her magic on stage!!! she is incredible in film and tv, but i think theatre is really her calling, and i know thats what she was most exposed to growing up so it stands to reason. this is only the beginning yall (literally. with light and the piazza around the corner.)

bittersweet that its over, but for the first time in god knows how long, i actually know when im seeing her next!! and its for something super special!! it may not be for a while, but i almost like it better that way, bc i get to spend these next 7 months getting to look forward to it, KNOWING im seeing her again soon. and knowing how things work out, i very well may get to see her beforehand. (RDMAs? book signing? maybe something else? who knows)

not to say they weren’t amazing, but the last handful of times ive seen her have often had a downside (hocus pocus i could see her but couldnt meet her, mamma mia/bellami hair/build i didnt know when id get to see her next, build we didnt get to talk much, etc.) but this was just perfect in every way. we got to talk for the longest weve gotten to in nearly a YEAR, and i got to see her in her FUCKING OFF-BROADWAY DEBUT!!!! AND KNOW WHEN IM SEEING HER AGAIN! AND SEE HER MOM! AND MEET THOMAS! AND I HADNT SEEN HER IN EIGHT MONTHS AND SHE RECOGNIZES ME RIGHT AWAY! WOW!

SO with that said, joongi are going out on their 5000000000000th date and i guess are engaged at this point? they are going to a dog park, where they are going to sit and play with doggos and hug them and then have a picnic on the water with a lot of cheese and wine and laughter and i and all our friends will sit 100 yards back crying about how much we love them

taehyung + @from-dae-do-dae: i have also said this before and i will say it again: fei and tae are going on their third date to an art museum. its starting in the morning and its going late into the night. i imagine them at the met in new york, looking at classical art and moving between movements until they get to american mid century pastorals. this is where they discuss light and the movement of light in the styles of paintings. then they move to the photography hall where they spend FAR too long, discussing filtering, development techniques and mixed media. then they go to the hall of instruments where they both shed a few tears, and fei goes on to discuss how caravaggio, as amazing as he was, was mostly a painter of music and tae swoons so hard he almost goes blind. at 5 the museum is about to close so and they realize they havent eaten, so they go to dinner at a nice restaurant to have tapas and seafood fare with wine. they talk about the art they saw, and then move on to discuss deep thoughts, hopes and dreams. they expose each other raw but in a gentle fashion, the kind where you ask a series of questions no one can follow until they arent even sure why theyre discussing the reasons its difficult for them to accept and receive love, but there they are - two bottles of wine in and still they dont want to stop. so they walk through central park along the water and for some reason they dont need to talk anymore they just want to be together. /this got out of control/

jimin + @yeol-stole-my-soul: these beans are going to disney world and universal. fight me about it. jimin needs to loosen up and have fun and maria sleeps even less than i do, and needs to be somewhere she can bang pots and pans as loudly as she wants and no one will mind. i fantasize about them running around, going on all the rides, eating everything, screaming at everything, and then staying out until the park closes. the park empties early of kids around 10 so thats two hours of no lines and running around the park doing everything twice. fun. pure fun. FUN AND - romantic. dont think so? jimins face lighting up at the fireworks over the castle - thats fucking magical. marias face when she realizes not only is the food in epcot delicious, but it tastes just like how her mother makes it. trust me. thats magic, and thats real shit. no one is ever as vulnerable as when theyre delighted because happiness is difficult to hold and this is something they get to hold together. when joy and nostalgia mix, that is when you really learn a person. its easy to see them scared and angry - see a person caught pure delight and that is when you see their soul. 

jungkook + @queenoftheimpala: these shy beans are taking a painting with wine class. sure, kook probably wont drink and if he does hell be super slow about it. but ali, my delightful beautiful best friend, will take to the bottle like shes drinking gold and will finally let herself open up. when she lets herself go, hes done for. truly, you cant see ali being herself and NOT fall in love. his ass will swoon so hard hell fall through the floor, covered in paint. together, theyll make art. see why they pick the shapes and colours they choose, learn why they make lines different from one another. ‘my hand is shaky,’ hell say without any confidence, even though his lines are perfect. ‘ive always been terrible at art,’ ali will laugh, sheepish, even though she gets it right without trying. they dont really need to say anything to one another, they just need to exist in one anothers orbit and they will realize 1. they are so incredibly similar 2. they are both the most adorable messes and 3. they were made for one another. again, ill be standing in the back crying saying ‘this is my favourite movie.’

namjoon + @joonbird: these brilliant beans are going to a pottery class. theyre going to make something with their hands and then they are going to dinner with wine and cheese and theyre going to have conversations that range from personal history to metaphysics to philosophy to the weirdest shit theyve seen while traveling. joon will be amazed by her intellect and her wit, amy will be impressed he manages to make a mug that looks more like a bird house. she doesnt ask questions, just admires his artistic intent. at dinner the conversation carries over, though this time theyre mostly silent - making yummy noises as they eat their food and smiling across the table. this is when they start talking about places theyve been, things theyve seen, food theyve tried - experiences - delighted that now they get to experience each other.

jin+ @2seokforyook: this other power couple are going to take an improv theatre class. kim is shy and sometimes so is jin, but this is where he shines. hes delighted to show off and engage, to open himself a little and, by proxy, watch kim open up by impressing her and making her laugh. kim will be tentative at first, but the comfort and warmth he radiates on stage will be infectious and soon, with a few laughs and awkward pauses, she will find her flow, playing games and enjoying being free of any real focused thought for at least an hour. for a while, its light hearted, laughing so hard they cry a little, but then, at the end, its time to get vulnerable. its seemingly impossible, but again, theyre together, warm and in a bubble of comfort created simply because theyre together and theyre learning to have fun without any restrictions. and so they talk - really, truly talk - without words or a script about everything and nothing. and when its over, when they finally get to leave, they realize that they werent acting. not even for a second.

oof the pd48 scandal is extremely complicated. to condense it in a few statements: all of the girls' rankings have been rigged since the very beginning and it was rumored that they already had their end group before the show even started. it was like this for pf48 and pdx101 (group x1) which was why x1 disbanded within a month of debuting, and izone were on hiatus for like 4 months. im not the best at explaining stuff like this haha, but i think you get it. you can check out yt or search up 'pd48 scandal', a ton of articles and videos. as for new groups, nothing has been made clear yet. theyve only made instagram handles for now and appeared on variety shows haha. as for acting career, hyewon was supposed to do acting but was forced to join pd48 so maybe she'll continue acting afterwards? nothing is confirmed yet!

#OscarsSoWhite Was Important But The Oscars Were Not

In todays social media driven, viral culture, its not uncommon for a singular story to dominate the news cycle, only to be completely forgotten about shortly thereafter. If you haven’t overdosed on flakka or been poisoned by lead, think back to a couple of weeks ago when Jada Pinkett-Smith and Spike Lee announced, via their Instagram accounts, that they wouldn’t be attending Sundays Academy Awards over the exclusively eggshell pigment of the nominees.

Thanks to social media, their boycott then became a movement with momentum. #OscarsSoWhite, the movements popularly elected Twitter banner, was trending for a matter of weeks which is basically the highest validation something can receive nowadays. Joining their call for more diversity in films were: black people tired of not being represented in films, black actors tired of being racially type casted, and white actors apparently tired of being over-represented.

The movement to boycott the Oscars got so popular that some called for Chris Rock (the man doesn’t need an introduction), to join the cause and step down as host. As a result, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, issued a statement saying that she was heartbroken over the lack of diversity and that she would do everything in her power to fix it.

All of this and more, came to a head Sunday night at the ceremony. Leonardo DiCaprios prayers were answered and Chris Rock showed up, making the event a go. This was despite George Clooney among others, but namely George Clooney, being absent.

With his opening monologue, Rock wasted no time in addressing the racist elephant in the room. While his opening monologue was comedically brilliant, it will be remembered as the best opening monologue of all time because it summed up the current state of diversity and representation in the entertainment industry so well. Like much of Chris Rocks comedy, the genius of it lay in between the lines. Sure the punch lines slayed, but the subtexts made you really think.

ith his opening monologue, Rock wasted no time in addressing the racist elephant in the room.

In regards to the shows opening sequence, which included snippets from many of the years snubs, Rock said, Man, I counted at least 15 black people on that montage. Im here at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the White peoples Choice Awards. In this choice line, Rock prophetically calls out the Academy for its after-the-fact attempts at diversity. I say it was prophetic because it just so happened that every commercial belonging to an Academy sponsor featured a mixed race or black family. However, the most painfully contrived example of pandering came at the end of the show, when Public Enemys played over the credits. My eyes were rolling so hard, I almost passed out.

After letting the initial shock, caused by directly calling the Oscars racist die, Rock pointed out the inherent irony of the #OscarsSoWhite movement by saying: Why are we protesting? The big question: Why this Oscars? Why this Oscars, you know? Its the 88th Academy Awards. Its the 88th Academy Awards, which means this whole no black nominees thing has happened at least 71 other times. O.K.? You gotta figure that it happened in the 50s, in the 60s you know, in the 60s, one of those years Sidney didnt put out a movie. Im sure there were no black nominees some of those years. Say 62 or 63, and black people did not protest. Why? Because we had real things to protest at the time, you know? We had real things to protest; you know, were too busy being raped and lynched to care about who won best cinematographer.

This is what makes Chris Rock a genius. His comedy operates on multiple levels. What hes saying, most clearly, is that the Oscars have never been diverse. But what hes really getting at is the systematic racism in Hollywood. Through further implication, hes also exposing the nearsightedness of people who don’t agree with the #OscarsSoWhite message. People in other decades never protested the obviously racist Oscar ceremonies, because they had other things on their plate like trying not to be killed. But that doesn’t make the Oscars any less racist.

That being said, the Oscars aren’t diverse because Hollywood doesn’t offer good roles to black actors on a regular basis. Not because the voters are racist. When he hilariously pointed out that he didn’t want to lose another job to Kevin Hart, the implication was that as two comedic black actors, theyre offered the same roles. It also says that there aren’t enough jobs in Hollywood for the both of them. He revisits this point later when he says that Jamie Foxx was so good in that Hollywood killed the real Ray Charles because they didn’t need two of these.

That being said, the Oscars aren’t diverse because Hollywood doesn’t offer good roles to black actors on a regular basis. Not because the voters are racist.

Rock then offered a caveat to the criticism of the Oscars by specifically addressing the people who started the movement. But what happened this year? What happened? People went mad. Spike got mad got mad, and Jada went mad, and Will went mad. Everybody went mad, you know? Jada got mad? Jada says she not coming, protesting. Im like aint she on a TV show? Jada is going to boycott the Oscars Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihannas panties. I wasnt invited. Oh, thats not an invitation I would turn down.

While he agrees with Jada and Spikes message, hes a comedian and cultural commentator, so hes paid to tell the whole truth, even when its unpopular. Jada is basically a television actress who is paid millions of dollars. Will, her husband, is an actor who has reaped the rewards of being the most bankable black actor in Hollywood not the most prolific. The Smiths are not a relatable family with relatable problems. Moreover, is also not exactly the movie to scream racism! over either. Its a PG-13 Sports drama not exactly Oscar material. That being said, Rock doesn’t mention Spike in any of this because was a great movie. But Spike Lee is wellSpike Lee. His films are too controversial, too real, to win Academy awards. Im not saying that its right but the Academy doesn’t often reward risk takers.

Rock then goes on by saying, Not everything is sexism. Not everything is racism. The Academys membership is mainly comprised of old, wrinkled, white men. So whats happening here isn’t exactly police brutality racism, its more, old-lady-clutching-her-purse racism. Its the summation of unconscious bias and the result of archaic perceptions of highbrow art.

This is what an organization that is totally out of touch with the public, looks like. This is what Rock is getting at when he points out that Hollywood is home to the nicest, most-liberal, white people; theyll vote for a black president, yet they wont hire black actors. Despite their liberal sensibilities, their whole way of thinking about entertainment has been shaped by an archaic system that deals in white stories. After all, the institution theyre part of still refers to movies as motion pictures.

This is what an organization that is totally out of touch with the public, looks like.

How many old people do you know saw How many old people you know of, know who the hell the N.W.A. are? As for yeah, its possible Oscar material, but its also a Netflix movie. Why the hell would the Academy of Motion pictures nominate a film thats made by the same company (Netflix) thats ravaging their industry, for anything? Oh, thats right, they wouldnt.

Despite the Oscars boycott, the general point of the #OscarsSoWhite movement is accurate. As Chris Rock puts it: We want opportunity. We want black actors to get the same opportunities as white actors.

It seems that the only way a black person can be nominated for something is by playing a mammy or a slave. While its truly fucked up, its nothing new, and blaming The Academy misses the point.

Who we should really be mad at, are the studios. The studios decide what gets made and what doesn’t. Theyre the ones who only want to make films dealing in the stalest of stereotypes. Theyre the ones who only want quality movies made with all black casts.

When Rock talked about Paul Giamatti playing someone who hates black people one year and playing someone who loves black people another, hes inferring something about the industry. He later says it out right: white actors get great roles, real roles, all the time. Black actors dont. They are confined to the archetypes and stereotypes created by the older generation.

Only in a Hollywood thats racist can an insane monologue about fucking fried chicken happen ina movie that won a bunch of Oscars (Only in a totally out of touch Hollywood could that god-forsaken movie about that white guy who saves the inner-city black kids from themselves, keep being made. You know the movie that Im talking about. The one with that white guy the black kids dont trust him at first, because of their rough upbringing and all that bullshit, so they treat him badly. But eventually he wins them over and they learn to trust him. He then teaches them about the beauty of learning or creative expression. He gets them out of the projects, they teach him how to dance. These movies are tired, embarrassing, and insulting.

However, the studios are only interested in making money, so they dont care about the cultural or societal repercussions that their trash movies are having on America. Theyve been doing it for so long that these stereotypes have become embedded in movie-watching language without most people even knowing it.

Its not an accident that we dont have an Asian American or Native American Ryan Gosling type of actor. To these old, white, wrinkled men, white is the norm. White culture and white people are considered the mainstream audience, which is where most of the money is to be made. Thats why the media has labeled Eddie Murphy and Kevin Hart, two of the biggest actor-comedians of all time, cross-over artists. As in, they successfully crossed over from the niche (black) market to the mainstream (white) market.

Getting mad at the Academy Awards is pointless. Yes, theyre celebrating their craft but its also an award show of made-up importance. All it is, is an event where beautiful people, who are already worshipped by the culture, further exacerbate their self-importance by giving each other golden statues of no inherent value. It only takes about $100 to make one of those creepy things. Giving them any more attention than that is a waste of time and energy.

@kollectionn and jongdae i think would have two kids, a boy and a girl. if they werent fraternal twins id think theyd have them close to one another, likely 24-36 months apart so they could play together. theyd raise them well and it would be adorable, like cute teasing by the brother to his sister but c would make sure it never goes far. and their daughter is a total, complete daddy’s girl - just. like. her. mother. i imagine he sings them both to sleep and sunshine handles bedtime stories. wow im soft. 

@kpopfanfictrash and jimin would have one child - a daughter. shan i think would probably want another but jimin would be so enamored with his baby girl that hed be like ‘no. you cant duplicate perfection.’ hed probably put her in pigtails and make sure she always has the softest dresses. every trip breeds a whole new stuffed animal and he has to enlist shans expertise in building a castle in the back yard - shan designs and he builds. also horseback lessons come to mind for some reason. just. the cutest little family trio.

@knockknocksoosthere and kyungsoo have two boys. fal really wants a girl at first but the boys are so good and so sweet that she finds she doesnt mind. like their dad, theyre both quiet and bookish, whip smart. one learns to read very quickly and cannot stop speaking. he climbs into the bed to wake fal up and tell her all about how he learned morse code. like fal while the other is worrying if only because he is 4 now, doesnt really speak, but yesterday he programmed the car’s bluetooth so hes probably fine; this boy doesnt have a first word, he has a first sentence. CUTE.

@rudeboywonho and yongguk dont have children but they have three dogs whom they dote on like children. this counts, dont you dare tell me otherwise. lilly is the eldest and she looks after the other puppies. their bed is filled with passionate F*****G and cute doggy cuddles; one of them is named tigger but only because yongguk begged. the other was a christmas gift for nic and was so tiny she fit in the stocking.

@kpopandlock and jongin have a daughter and three dog sons. coulson looks after the baby and the puppies like a proud uncle, and is very worried when the baby cries. nini hums her to sleep while letting coulson stay close to the crib because he is protective and whines if he cant see both of them at the same time. jongin gets very withdrawn on his daughters first day of school but when she comes home, the first thing she says is she missed daddy before launching into stories about her new friends. just like her mother - she is chatty and friendly, and also tells her father about how many dogs she pet on the way to the park. this is nini’s favourite conversation of all time.

@kimnamwho and johnny have three kids, two girls and boy. the house is NOISY but filled with so much laughter. all three of the kids are witty, almost to a fault, but terribly obedient. they have moments of being naughty, but dont receive much discipline because, like their parents, they feel badly if they realize theyve done something wrong or hurt someones feelings. their daughter likes to pick flowers and put them in her fathers hair, while the oldest boy likes to build model cars and hopes to one day be an aeronautical engineer - this will change in one week.

chanyeol and i have one child after a very, very, very long conversation about children as i have spent the better part of my life not wanting any. we have a boy, and my heart literally breaks every time i see him because he has his father’s ears. we may have one child, but we could run a farm with the amount of animals we keep. chanyeol and our son often come home from walks in the woods, or along the creek, with frogs and turtles or rabbits they would like to keep, and i, being precisely the same, never once say no. we are terribly, incandescently happy.
