Geto is jealous (SatoSugu)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Working title- 'Cold Slug' (makes sense in the end of the fic)
"Satoru?" And he made his voice extra soft at the name, letting his elbow grace Satoru's arm.
An annoyed grunt. "What?"
He still didn't look his way, but Suguru could see him glance at him out of the corner of his blue, blue eyes.
"Are you okay?" His voice was still soft at the question, but he fixed the boy with an earnest expression, making sure Satoru understood he would only accept the truth.
A sigh. Satoru's shoulders deflating the smallest bit.
"I already told you", he mumbled. "I'm fine."
"You know I'll get mad if I find out you lied to me." This time it wasn't a question, and it made a small smile creep onto Satoru's lips.
"Ooh, I'm so scared."
Suguru poked him in the rips, fast enough to take a hit before Satoru could put up his Infinity.
"Ah- haha!" Satoru jumped to the side, getting some distance between the two of them. "Unfair!"
"Totally fair", Suguru replied, a pleasant smirk on his lips. "If there is anything not fair here, it's your Infinity."
They started bickering after that. Suguru didn't bring up the topic again. He could swallow his anger if it meant Satoru was smiling again.
He let it rest and Satoru was hopping alongside him, blabbering like his old self. None of them suggested to fly back, silently deciding to take the train. Satoru was pretty in the moon light falling in through the window. They sat next to each other and it was warm inside, compared to the cool night air.
Satoru's cheeks were pink from the cold, the tip of his nose dusted in a sweet red. He had taken off his glasses as the metal had turned too cold on his skin, and Suguru was mesmerized.
The ride home was about an hour and they spent it talking and teasing and poking at each other, and everything was fine. Satoru was talking about Digimon (Suguru had no idea how they ended up here) and he was fine and he was smiling and everything was okay.
Only it wasn't.
Suguru was only half listening to Satoru, nodding his head despite not hearing his words. He only saw his pretty lips moving and imagined how they would feel on his own. And then his gut caught fire again as he realized that fucking guy from earlier knew exactly what they felt like.
His evil mind didn't stop there. No, it even showed Suguru pictures of Satoru being held by the guy. One of his sticky hands on the back of Satoru's neck, holding him in place, pulling him closer as he forced his tongue between his rosy lips.
Did Satoru like it? He did not look like it when Suguru had found him fleeing the bathroom. Had that asshole forced himself onto him?!
Suguru would kill him. He would find him and he would kill him and he would do it with his bare hands.
"- you good?" A light shove against his shoulder snapped him out of it.
"Huh?"
He blinked against his confusion, schooling his expression when he realized the light strain between his brows from squinting them too much.
"You look like you have a stomach ache or something." Satoru was eying him scepticaly, one shoulder pressed up against the seat, head tipped to the side and arms crossed. "Are you good?"
"Yes", Suguru answered.
Except for the fact that I can't stop thinking about you and bitch boy, swapping spit with each other, he added mentally.
"Okay, so what did I just say?" Satoru looked at him with a quirked brow and half a smirk on his lips.
Suguru stared back at him with wide eyes. "Uhm..."
Satoru's half smirk turned into a full one. "Knew it."
He leaned in closer to him, his six eyes hopefully not catching the way Suguru's ears started burning as his heart thundered inside his chest.
"What'ya thinking about, Suguru?"
He said his name in that playful tone he always used when teasing Suguru. When he was trying to provoke some silly fight.
Normally, Suguru would jump to it, happy to blow off some steam. But this was dangerous territory.
"Nothing", he said, sitting more straight in his seat, acting like he was reading the name of the next station on the little screen hanging over the sliding doors. (He would look outside, but he'd left the window seat to Satoru.)
"Oh, come on", Satoru teased, leaning in even closer. No sense of private space, as usual. "I barely see that expression on your face, except when I put it there myself." He chuckled, cocking his head and trying to catch his eye. "Who got on your nerves like that?"
Suguru glanced at him out of the corner of his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Nobody", he muttered, a picture of that guy plopping up inside his head. The fucking way he'd smirked at Suguru. The way he'd known.
Suguru's fingers dug into the flesh of his arms, as his mind once more showed him HD-quality pictures of the guy's hands all over Satoru. Satoru inside his lap, eyes closed, sighing sweetly as fuck face deepened the kiss.
Suguru could hear his own blood pumping through his veins. Another hot wave of rage washing over his senses, driving him almost mad. He was so riled up, he was sure he could rip out an entire row of passanger seats with his bare hands right now.
Then the picture changes and suddenly Satoru is trying to push him away, fighting against the guy's hold as he doesn't let him leave.
And the worst part was, Suguru didn't even know which option he found worse. And he hated himself for it. And it made the churning sensation inside his stomach so much worse.
"Hey, Sugu-"
"Just leave it!"
Oh fuck.
The words came out way harsher than he had meant to.
Satoru's eyes went wide with shock, the hand he had reached out towards him stopping in mid air.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!
"Sorry." Satoru found his voice before him. And it was small. Stiff.
His hand retreating. Body turning away from Suguru.
"No. Satoru." Suguru reached out a hand for him, only to find his fingers stopping short before touching Satoru's shoulder.
Infinity.
"Nah, it's okay", Satoru said and his voice was lighter now, indifferent.
Fake.
"Guess we're both in a bad mood today." Satoru didn't even look at him, chin resting in his hand as he stared out the window.
"Satoru."
"Let's just talk tomorrow." He still wasn't looking. "Or not."
The last part was muffled into his palm, as he closed his eyes pretending to rest.
Suguru let his hand drop, a defeated sigh escaping him.
"I didn't mean to yell", he said in a soft voice, letting his head fall back against the seat.
Satoru's eyes remained closed. The boy escaping the conversation in pretending to be asleep.
So, Suguru closed his eyes too.
"It's just hard to explain." Voice so soft it was barely more than a whisper. So soft he could barely hear his own words over the static roar of the train rushing over rails. "You wouldn't understand."
Their friendship would be over.
A glance at the screen told him that there were still over twenty minutes left. He sighed in his misery.
The rest of the ride was quiet.
+
Working on a lil treat. It has a happy ending, no worries. I'm just a sucker for jealous Geto.✨

Digimon Tamers - Episode 14
Oh snap! The plot be plottin'! Yamaki's (finally learned his name) plot to destroy all digimon fails spectacularly and instead he creates a rift between both worlds and -checks notes- Mihiramon (a perfect level) comes through. We also get a bunch of new stuff introduced this time: using cards to digivolve, Takato being "connected" to Guilmon, and Guilmon's perfect digivolution MegaloGrowmon! Still don't fully know what's going on, but there are more mysteries to solve now which means I'm more invested :)
Notes:
That skyscraper they keep showing with the two towers...is that a real building in Shibuya or something made up for the anime? I tried googling this, but found nothing.
The silhouetted digimon flying into their doom was pretty creepy. Kinda reminds me of all of the souls floating around in the Underworld in Hercules (but like...in the sky instead)
So the enemy digimon acknowledge that they were created by humans but they only obey their "God." For a second I was like "but isn't your God supposed to be your creator??" but that's not necessarily the case in a lot of polytheistic religions, so I guess anything goes.
Yamaki casually chokes out Jian and Terriermon barely reacts ("that guy's rude!") lol wtf
Two very ugly digimon designs in this episode: Mihiramon (weird name) and MegaloGrowmon. Mihiramon looks like he was designed by an 8 year old (I had to laugh when they showed his nunchuck tail) and MegaloGrowmon is just profoundly derpy. Kinda looks like it hurts to be him and he's lost a lot of ability to emote because there's way too much going on with his face.
Considering the timing of when this anime came out, I bet Matrix Evolution was inspired by the coolness of The Matrix for sure. I doubt the name has much meaning aside from sounding neat.
Lots of big hits to the digimon in this one, Renamon falls off of a sky scraper and makes a huge dent in the concrete below and yet apparently takes zero fall damage. Growmon gets his entire side chomped on by Mihiramon and is also okay I guess (maybe digivolving to MegaloGrowmon healed him?)
Galgomon is apparently just braindead because he fully shoots at the open air for a weirdly long time during his fight. Also...apparently he can run out of ammo which I didn't see coming. How the heck does that work? Where does the ammo come from? When he runs out is that it until he de-digivolves and then digivolves again? So many questions...
So Takato is linked to Guilmon physically and was able to create him from a drawing...there's gotta be some connection there...
Suddenly Takato's friends are okay with him being an IRL digimon tamer. I guess they had to fully see him in action to respect it. Seems a little two faced of them...
Culumon was pretty prominent in the matrix evolution sequence...(but why tho)
Megalomon's digivolution sequence was in that charming early CGI. Doesn't look fantastic, but it's nostalgic. I think I can see some improvement from earlier seasons at least. Actually I think these mecha-esque designs sometimes look better in the CGI and then look awkward in the 2D animation.

Just gonna mass dump Frontier thoughts rather than post episode by episode. I just wanna watch and enjoy then scribble thoughts down afterwards. This isn't like serious reviews or anything.
EP 2. Wolfmon of Light - Battle in the Underground Maze! -details re: the missing chunks of world which I was wondering about just 15 minutes ago are revealed -Tomoki wanting to be a hero is sweet but given how Digimon loves psychologically torturing children, I am deeply concerned for him lol -Blue Boy is Koji, like the delicious fungus! -what is it with Digimon and chocolate? also a train having a huge tongue like that is terrifying in a way I can't quite describe -more screentime for Izumi and Junpei! (So much so that I actually remembered their names roffle) The vibe I got from Izumi in the first ep was that she thinks of herself as being more mature than others and Junpei being concerned about what others think (in a kind of "socially cowardly" way) and that follows through here. I'm not sure I'm articulating what I mean properly lol. But it's pretty good characterisation so far to give the characters such little screentime in the first ep but still communicate a lot about their personalities. -After Takuya and Izumi fall down the hole, Neemon turns to Bokomon and asks "should we fall down too?" gave me a good chuckle, I'm looking forward to seeing what these two bring to the group -Raremon is gross and creepy, nice. I was starting to think Koji's evolution debut would be him beating up some babies who wanted chocolate lol -Koji just being accidentally pushed into a hole that happened to contain the Spirit felt weak but pretty funny, like damn dude, thank goodness it wasn't one of those holes that just. fell. forever. into the air outside lol -Also I dunno if there was just little/no music in episode 1 (don't recall to be honest) but the bgm in this episode was really nice -overall a decent episode, the Pagumon chases were a nice more lighthearted threat after LITERAL HELL DOG TRIES BURNING TINY CHILDREN ALIVE
EP 3. I Won't Allow Bullying! Evolve into Chakmon of Ice -So they have the chance to return home, Junpei wants to, the others send Tomoki away. I always love in stories when kids are like "we're OLDER so LISTEN to us!" and the elders are like 10 years old -it's nice the kids don't all just get along, even if they're sticking together, there's obviously friction with their personalities and what they want to do -Bokomon and Neemon are nice support/comic relief, they're funny but not overbearing which is always my worry with characters like this -more backstory!! so Lucemon was an evil tyrant, but now it's Cherubimon who's screwing up the world… we got ourselves a fallen angel theme going so far -THAT CANDMON HAS A MOUSTACHE -Bruh the scene where Tomoki uses his hat to try dousing the Candmon to protect Takuya is so sweet, this kid's legit, best character for sure lol -Chakmon's evolution animaton is so cute omg, Chakmon always looked so serious in its artwork but it's super cute -not gonna lie Wizardmon just appearing suddenly confused the hell outta me haha -overall though i really liked this ep, the episodes so far are all really nicely paced
EP 4. My Kicks Hurt! The Female Warrior Fairymon -The Forest Terminal being in the forest literally makes so much sense my guy. I mean you are in Crazy Whacko Nonsense world but still. "I live in Ocean View." "Oh, where's that?" "In the middle of the desert." -Floramon's head is apparently completely empty. Oh my. Which makes me wonder how the Mushmon… made their mushroom soup… -Izumi straight up SLAPPING Mushmon is so good. I always love when Digimon kids are totally out of their league fighting these monsters but they don't care and still try to mess 'em up. -Woodmon secretly three Mushmon in a trench coat confirmed. -lol that booty attack Fairymon does. "no no it isn't the ten-year-old Izumi, it's FAIRYMON, it's totally different we swear ehehehehe" I'm kinda curious about what the dub looks now though -Sucks that Izumi's evolution debut has her getting knocked out cold like that. Just seemed like an excuse to have Koji show up and barely interact again. -I'm 99% sure Bokomon is secretly The Ultimate Evil this series. -Junpei being so convinced he's getting a Spirit is nice. Shows he's been paying attention. A shame the same cannot be said of Koji who still refuses to tag along with the main gang. My fella, you are right there in the intro with them. You cannot escape.

I made a fan kid!
Tumblr media
So this is Takahiko, my Arukenimon/Mummymon fan kid at about 7 years old. He's pretty sulky and doesn't smile much with people he doesn't know. This boy is much happier reading in a quiet room than dealing with new people. He's not a bad kid though; if he cares about someone, like his parents, he gets pretty attached to the point that it can be considered by some to be clingy. If he befriends someone he will help them out any way he can. His emotional empathy is also surprisingly high, so if someone he cares about is sad he'll do his best to cheer them up in his own way. Plus he has an extremely warm smile that can be disarming to people that aren't familiar with him! (I purposely didn't draw it so his default personality with strangers comes through more. Maybe another time!)
Takahiko's a really musical boy. He plays the recorder really well and, if necessary, can use it to obtain some level of control over insect digimon like his mother. He also can make spirit needles, from the darker hair surprisingly, but since there aren't any more control spires he has no idea what they're for. He occasionally just makes them, looks at them a bit, then leaves them on the table and heads away. (Honestly though even if the control spires were still around; this kid would only use them to make a dog to play with.) He also has the entirely unique ability to communicate with the Oikawa butterflies to some extent, to the point that he's aware that they used to be a single man. He calls him the nice butterfly man. Other than music, he loves the stars since his dad loves horoscopes so much and spends time looking at constellations. He is absolutely terrified of bats though and vampires of any kind, even cartoon ones, leave him in floods of tears. This is probably a subconscious response to the trauma his parents experienced in a certain dream world that got imprinted on his dna somehow.
His darker patch of hair is where Mummymon's data is more prevalent. That area of his face, his right arm and left leg are a similar shade of grey. He also has only the one eye but, unlike Mummymon, the other eye is kinda there just permanently closed. This doesn't bother him though. He can see just fine and he thinks his grey patches and weird eye are really cool! Plus he's so well wrapped up clothing wise, that it isn't really apparent. He is ambidextrous and can summon a sickle, which is connected to his digimon form, but he usually isn't in a position to need one. Also he loves his purple scarf. Seriously, don't try and take it away from him.
Takahiko is unusual in that he picked out his own human name. He couldn't actually turn into a human until he was around 4. Until then his parents just called him by his digimon name(s)/pet names etc; but then one morning they get up and the kid is just standing there in human form asking Mummymon what's for breakfast. (Yes he was originally an egg, but it's more complicated than that and I won't get into it here.) Anyway, once he realises, he decides his human form needs a name too because all his evolutions have specific names. So he looks through his books and picks one he really likes, and is pretty determined to use it. Arukenimon takes a look and sees that it can be written with the kanji for 'resolute prince' and decides 'Yes, that's a suitable name for my son' so she agrees to it. Mummymon gets no say in the matter but is too proud to care.
I know there are other well established fan kids for the pair; but I'm so happy to finally have one of my own that I just had to talk about him at least once! Seriously, I have had no idea what their kid would look like for years, to the point that I was semi-convinced that a child was impossible for them and to have this cute little guy just come flying at me makes me so happy! I'll leave it at that because I could write a lot more about him. (This is a *severely* cut back version of the full bio I wrote for him.) I might put some more stuff in the tags though. If anyone is curious about him feel free to ask. I know a bizarre amount about this kid!

I recently finished Cassette Beasts! It's an amazing Game (despite the technically issues it has on Switch) and of course I had to make my own OC!
Skiver is actually a Character, I have since quite a while now but it has been used for several ideas at this point. Now I think, it found it's perfect place. Below the cut, I'll show some old Designs of this lil guy!
Skiver is an Air-Type Monster with an affinity to Poison. It's also a huge Glass-Canon with high Speed and Attack but low Defense and mediocre HP.
It can also be remastered to a Monster named Orbat, which I have yet to design. As well as it's Ranger xD but one at a time xD
I recreated the Summary Screen of the Game as well as the Tape :3 Really like the Sticker of Skiver on it tbh xD
If anyone is interested, I could offer the Template free to use for other Peoples CB-OCs!
Hope you guys like it!
Below the cut you can see some of his older designs!
Tumblr media
This was the first Design I made of Skiver 6 years ago (2017)! Back then he was meant to be a Character for an RP that got discontinued after a while xD His name was R-180 or Radar xD
Tumblr media
This was the second design of him! This is from 2019! I renamed im to Vleiffle, which was the idea of a Friend back then! He was meant to be a Monster-Companion for a MMO-Class in my Original Story CyberGhost back then! Cyberghost kinda got scrapped tho after a while xD
Tumblr media
This was the last Version I made of Skiver later in 2019! I tried to turn Vleiffle into a Digimon and rename it to Vleifflemon. It kinda fit but I had no use for him for so long, so I scrapped the idea again xD Since then he was kinda catching dust until Cassette Beasts came along xD

Although I am not a fan of the guy involved in the Discotek stuff, I am excited for Hurricane Touchdown! The most because it was the most choped up. I am also very happy they didnt just erase Digimon the Movie. Yes, it is a mess, but it's MY/OUR mess. It'll be cool to have both a faithful recreation and our old school wild stuff.
Aw, I'm sorry! I'm not familiar with anyone who's involved in this project (other than onkei and the dub VAs) so I can't really speak to that, but no judgement on you, my friend! 👍
Yeah, I'm also glad that D:tM isn't being erased/forgotten. The new dub actually manages to be respectful to the original AND D:tM. Speaking as a fan of both, that's quite a feat! It's really a hybrid, where they adapted the original material much more faithfully, but they kept some choice dub jokes and added a smattering of their own (but not in the excessive way that some dubs are known for, i.e. filling any and all silences with talking). These movies are allowed to BREATHE, and we're allowed to enjoy the likes of Bolero and Butter-fly <3 I felt a little trepidation at first when they said that it was a hybrid, but it quickly won me over. They said at the start of the screening that they wanted this dub to sound like an alternate recording of D:tM, and I think they really nailed that!! One of my favorite minuscule details was from Our War Game (which I hope isn't too much of a spoiler, but I can't resist sharing), is that Jeff Nimoy voices the barber in Shimane again, and his name is still Floyd. I LOVE that, and I think it really shows the care and attention to detail that went into this project. It really strikes a balance between being faithful to the source and *sounding* like the American English dub. It takes the original material and builds on it, which (imo) enhances the experience.
There was a bit of confusion from the people around me about Hurricane Touchdown, ddfkjhdsakfj. I heard one person behind me ask, "isn't this movie about TK?" Oh, my sweet Summer (Memory) child ^_^ There was also a lot of confused vocalization during the Older-Chosen-Are-Kidnapped subplot, I don't think a lot of people in the audience KNEW how much was cut originally! I'm so excited for more people to see the uncut versions (the! animation! is! SO! GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!)

My introduction to FFXIV
Tumblr media
Hey, after posting the thing about the stress test server a few weeks ago, I got an idea to try and go down the memory lane, trying to recall everything that had happened during the time I've spent playing Final Fantasy XIV. I hope that someone would find my story and experiences interesting. After all, I found out that I enjoyed seeing other people's reactions to the game itself as well.
But in order to tell my story, I have to start somewhere. And I can't find a better way to do so than to tell you how I learnt of the game in the first place.
Not sure when exactly did it start, but I remember my friend mentioning that he was playing FFXIV during Summer this year, I think. I wasn't too interested, after all I had prior experience with MMORPGs like Aion, Tera, Black Desert, ArchAge and even that Digimon Masters Online or whatever was it called, and I didn't go further than level 30 in any of them (which meant I was playing for less than a month or a month and a half at max for Aion (the 2010 version prior to becoming the cash shop simulator with no story) and Digimon Masters). Why was I trying so many MMOs out in the first place? Well, my mom is actually into MMOs herself so I was visiting the titles she was playing as well (minus Digimon Masters) to help her and just find a title I would like, but it never clicked so I thought that maybe I wasn't into online gaming in the first place.
So when I heard that my friend was playing an MMORPG that was also a part of a franchise I didn't know much about, I kinda wanted to join... but I hesitated, knowing that it would probably end the same way as it did for five other titles I've listed above.
Fast-forward to the beginning of September 2023, September 2nd to be presice, when I saw some hentai-loving douche from a Russian Megaman Discord server saying how much the old gaming and MMOs sucked in comparison to perverted gachas he was playing with and how the critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV was actually trash. Needless to say, the guy was banned for posting hentai there. But either way, what he said about FFXIV was actually a good advertisement for the game so I remembered what my friend was saying and decided to reach out to him, saying I am willing to give it a shot. I did mention that I might not stay for too long here due to my track record with MMORPGs, but he said it was fine and that I can leave if it doesn't light up the spark in me in a month. He then made a group DM with a friend of his who actually was a person I saw on a different server a few years ago so that was neat.
I made a SquareEnix account that same evening, downloaded the game and then logged into the Free Trial for the first time, getting hit with this game's version of Prelude (even though I wasn't a fan or FF series, I knew the tune) and feeling a sense of tranquility, staying on the screen for a few minutes and continuing to listen to it while fiddling with settings.
Tumblr media
I watched the opening cinematic (it was great but I was wondering if the game even had Japanese voice acting because I like playing games and hearing their original language, be it English, Japanese or something else, just a personal preference) and got to the character creator. I was looking at the races, finding a liking to exactly the three of them -- cat-eared people with furry tails known as Miqo'te, tall and slender horned people named Au Ra and short child-like folk with long ears by the name of Lalafell.
Also I was struggling a lot with trying to read most of the race's names at first. It took me at least a few weeks to memorize them even.
At first, I wanted to make Axl as a cat boy here, thinking that I probably won't stick for long anyway (and I did make him in the game later, I still have his preset saved), but I decided to actually choose the race none of my friends picked up (one was a Miqo'te, other was an Au Ra), so I went for a lalafell and made my boy Pi from ROCKMAN ZERO - Chapter: AXL here to the best of my ability. One of the two friends was certainly really happy I chose a potato according to her messages when I had announced it :D
After getting freaked out by the game asking what my deity was (picked Oschon because Pi has a thing for exploring and learning new stuff about the world), I decided to pick the Healer class, before getting told not to do that because it would make early combat really annoying, and then my friend told me I can go for Arcanist since it would become a Healer class at level 30. Needless to say, I went for the book, then chose the Atomos server because my friends were there (ping wasn't bad here at all, even though everything tends to freeze rarely due to my internet provider screwing me over) and thus had set my eyes towards the seaside jewel of Eorzea -- Limsa Lominsa...
Tumblr media
I didn't know there was a different opening for each of the city-states at that time so I had some flashbacks to ArchAge when my character, Pi Peataan (I REALLY didn't think much while giving the character a name), but then we had actually arrived to the city and... I realized I underestimated my PC with the potato graphics settings I had supposedly set for it. Those bushes took me out of it for a moment.
Tumblr media
So, I arrived to Limsa, fixed the graphics, met Baderon Tenfingers (still giggling at that name), took notes that pirate speak is indeed quite hard for me to read quickly, then went to the main plaza with giant aetherite where I was met by my friends, the self-proclaimed 'emo catboy' Miqo'te Summoner/Scholar and an immensely tall black-scaled Auri Dark Knight. They greeted me, which made me feel all shy because before that I've only seen these people as 2D avatars and text messages, and now they could ran around me and kinda interact with me... ahem. One of them added me to the friends list (other couldn't, he was still in Free Trial), and then went their own ways while I had one hour left before the bed to explore the city.
I didn't know yet that you don't need to do yellow quests so i just picked up all the quests that were available in Limsa before proceeding with the main quest. I was getting lost in this giant city A LOT, which was the result of me having what I call "topographical cretinism", but I was... enjoying it. I ended the day without setting a foot outside the starting area, but I was looking forward towards tomorrow to explore some more, drifting to sleep while the main menu theme kept ringing in my head, accompanying me into my dreams...
Hope you enjoyed this entry. I will try to continue this series. I had a lot of fun remembering the details of the first day of FFXIV for me and what was I feeling during it all. Playing through it again with my friends that cannot play FFXIV or don't want to sink so much time into an MMO, and looking through the backlog of messages and screenshots in Discord I left while going through all of that certainly helped to assemble these memories back in a proper order.

DigiTimeLines: Document format [pt1]
Tumblr media
[AO3 VERSION] [@digimonadventuretimelines blog (outdated)]
Back in November 12 2012 a person asked about Daisuke’s son on the original askblog (ask-daisuke) and I decided to go on a full route of an Alternative Endgame for it. I didn’t do that to spite the epilogue though, I do not enjoy Fix-It culture (I’d rather write my own AU and leave the canon stuff untouched than simply try to “fix” them. Same thing happened with the Hunters arc from Xros Wars, and my own canon-divergent AU based on an old ▽ theory in 2016) so this project was already viewed as some sort of multiverse.
The name Daichi came from an old friend’s answer to my musings on twitter -- they suggested Daichi and Taisuke, but I adopted Daichi for the Daisuke kid, and Taisuke for the other character I designed -- a Taichi’s son OC. The idea of Daichi and his entire plot/story came while doodling him again, for the third time after the name reveal. He would be a space-time traveler based on other medias’ space-time travelers i’ve loved since i was a kid (Future Trunks, Chibi Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon, and Silver the Hedgehog) with a tragic story based on Luke Skywalker (uh, sorta). Daichi would seek for answers in his own journey in order to save his father from a terrible fate -- One where Daisuke becomes a puppet of a greater evil and turns into a menace to the worlds.
Besides this part, Daichi’s (alternate) world has two issues -- an endless conflict between wild digimon who do not want humans to be allowed in the Digital World, so they are trying to close the gates (and this bad guy uses a brainwashed Daisuke-turned-into-a-digimon-hybrid as some general for those troops) … And a force of humans who does not see the digimon as equals, wanting them to be treated as a menace for the human world, having to always be monitored by the police and Digital World’s ambassador Taichi in order to prevent digimon and even human victims.
The goal of the “Neo Chosen Children” is to combat both issues alongside their partners and families. And, for Daichi, to rescue Daisuke from the hands of this new enemy.
As for this setting, space-time travel would be the main theme of it. Daichi and his friends would travel through a special dimension connecting all the worlds and timelines through “doors” and then, they would learn more about the Tokyo Twelve and the Worldwide Chosen, also about other possible worlds. Most of those ideas of “crossovers” came from the crossover chapters in V-Tamer, which were the only thing I read from the manga back in time. And oh, Xros Wars manga’s multiverse theory.
※ This document might have changes from the original chapters 1 to 19 published on the blog & AO3 though.
  The main setting: Daichi’s story
While many think the Chosen Children job was over, this was a hoax. With the number of partnerships growing on a large and worldwide scale, the most known Twelve Chosen alongside their Worldwide allies from 2002 started to work harder to make sure the worlds would live in peace and together. But it’s easier said than done -- many issues have been spotted and reported throughout the world. Could Koushiro and Miyako handle a whole community like this? Of course they had the help of the Holy Beasts and the Gennai clones, but they should be sure none of those people would do bad things.
This is where they created a system and an organization in order to catalog and prevent outcomes like a new Kaiser-like enemy. The head and brains of the org was Koushiro, but he also nominated Taichi and Daisuke for co-leaders (Why Taichi and Daisuke? Well, they’re representing their generations after all) and having all the others as part of a council and operations like, teaching the both sides to respect each other, to not treat your digimon as some inferior being and vice-versa, to not be taunted by evil beings… And go on. This org was more likely a school, while a Special Unit force specialized in Digimon cases would work alongside the police.
To keep everything under control, and to know the number of partnerships, Koushiro’s old community list became a registered list -- in which every digivice, human and digimon were registered on a database sooner or later. Non-registered entries would become called “Mercenaries” and if any cataloged Chosen had gone vile for any reason, they would’ve been called “Dark Chosen”. Normal Chosen would just keep their name as it is, or rather “Registered Chosen”. It was like an ID and it could help to keep everything in order.
This went well for a while, but just as you can see… Humans and Digimon are complex creatures, and you can’t get rid of all of the mean spirited ones -- There would exist digimon and humans using each others’ partnerships and power to commit crimes, and others stuff. The Special Digimon Cases unit had always been needed in those cases, in which both digimon and officers had to take care of those bad apples. The Tokyo Twelve’s organization is just a mere big registered database and a “school” to teach and assist the digimon and their partners, not a law enforcer group.
Around Spring 2024, a group of rogue digimon wanting the digimon to be free from the partnership cycle started to move, wanting to separate all of the digimon from the humans. Said enemies managed to lure Daisuke and Ken into a trap… And Daisuke sacrifices himself to save Ken from getting caught -- He opened the gate and shoved Ken and Stingmon with the force of Wingdramon into the gate, and then closed it before those digimon could catch his friend. Ken tries to open the gate again, but it has been locked on the other end. After reporting to the others, the group decided to hide this information from the world… and from their own children.
  Daichi’s Destiny
Daichi is a kid born in August 2015, and his personality used to be closer to his parents -- very optimistic and brave, and the only difference is he was the smart aleck of the house. He liked to play games with his dad before school, having to be reminded about his duties by his mother. His little sister -- two years apart -- was also a very lively child. But everything changed when Daisuke disappeared in 2024. While there was a huge effort to keep the world and the group’s children out of it… Daichi’s personality had a drastic change: he became more of a shut-in and spent most of his time studying, making his sister Kiyoko super duper worried and mad at him.
Daichi was so sure that his dad had died that he used to talk in a more depressive tone. Kiyoko used to get extremely furious about it, because she didn’t want to think their dad was dead and the adults were lying to them. It was when, on a normal day in 2029, Daichi and Kiyoko heard a voice calling for help. Daichi tells Kiyoko to go stay at her friend’s house while he investigates it. The voice comes from Daisuke’s office room. He opens the door and sees an old computer on, with a small pink digimon bunny fainted on the floor.
The lights are turned on, and the digimon opens her eyes… And then morphs into her human form. It’s an old acquaintance of his parents -- Natsu (Yes, the digimon girl from Natsu e no Tobira drama  CD, you read it right)
Daichi was used to Natsu appearing as an adult human, but this was a big reveal for him -- She’s a digimon!? Is she Daisuke’s second partner? Well, no. Natsu is… An “Honorary partner” for Daisuke. Didn’t she get a human partner before? We will discuss it another day.
Natsu is cheerful and calls Daichi by ‘Daichan’ (Daichi’s nickname) and tells him she needs to talk with his mother or Taichi. The boy says his mother is not around, and Ambasador Yagami is always busy… Then, he wishes his father was still alive to help them. It’s when Natsu drops the bomb: No, Daisuke is alive and she needs help to rescue him. The kid’s behavior changes immediately, and Daichi starts begging Natsu to let him help. If you know Natsu well enough, if you push the right buttons you can make her do or say what you want. So, Daichi’s trickiest smuggest plan was just saying “My father would totally trust you to protect me if I were in danger” which led the digimon girl to agree to taking Daichi to the Digital World.
They went there, and she started getting bombarded with questions from the little kid, things related to what happened to his dad and why everyone was hiding those things from him. While Natsu was still hiding things from him, she managed to slip a few words leading to a battle 5 years ago. A little note: Natsu kept calling Daichi by ‘Daichan’ all the time, not even using his real name at any moment. Suddenly, the big bad enemy showed himself -- Lupinmon, a digimon which was a black wolf warrior, in the same style of the Legendary Hero of Light -- Wolfmon/Lobomon. Lupinmon attacked Natsu and Daichi, and then chased them until a brave and unknown V-mon with the Ulforce V-dramon’s bracelets appeared and repelled a powerful blow from the lupine warrior.
It was when… Something odd happens: Lupinmon steps back, like if he was holding himself to not hurt that human kid… And then in a weaker voice he calls Daichi by his name. By connecting the dots, Daichi realizes Lupinmon was actually his father but this didn’t last for a long time, and then Dai-Lupinmon attacks them again, but this time Natsu’s pendant starts glowing and opens a gate into another place, sucking the kid, her and the mysterious V-mon into a blank space… Quite similar to the dimension Apocalymon sent Taichi and his group once. The difference is, this place does not present the binary code, but has an angel-type digimon guarding it -- ClavisAngemon.
The trio meet a hooded figure with a feminine voice, who gives them some input about that place, its name and why they were there. Daichi was chosen as a new bearer of the power of space-time, but the boy was still in denial about what had happened right now with him: His father tried to murder him. His father, who used to be friendly and kind… Is an enemy of his world now. He couldn’t digest that information very well, and Daichi himself couldn’t bear a high responsibility like that. At first, he refused it… It wasn’t something he could handle at the moment. So, the hooded figure sent them back to the human world.
A few events later, Daichi was involved in an attack on a theater promoting a new movie to encourage the bonds between humans and digimon, in which he had to face Lupinmon’s followers and save them all. Ulforce, the name of that V-mon who was sticking with Daichi and Natsu since their first encounter, ended up being “linked” to Daichi via a special digivice which popped out from nowhere -- the Digivice TimeRune (or D-TimeRune) -- which sent instructions to the boy as “scan the digimon to form a link” and “scan the back of your hand to activate the DigiRune fragment” so he could assist Ulforce in battle. Once Daichi executed all of those instructions, Ulforce evolved into XV-mon (but with the bracelets and the mysterious Holy Ring in his ear) and fought the enemies, which once beaten were locked inside Natsu’s plasma bubbles and left there for the police.
It was when… Daichi realized he could use this power to… travel back in time and prevent his dad from being captured. This means once he and the others return to the Dimensional Space, Daichi informs ClavisAngemon and the hooded figure he’s ready for it. It’s the moment the place reveals an infinite number of doors within the blank space. But one problem was…  All of them are identical. This makes Ulforce lose his composure and start whining about this being ridiculous -- HOW CAN YOU KNOW WHICH DOOR TAKES TO WHICH PLACE AND TIME!?
The hooded figure also warns Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu that they should not alter the past, or else their world would’ve been destroyed. This does not make Daichi afraid at all, and he says he would prefer to not exist as long as his father is safe and happy.
Thus… Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu started traveling through space-time.
While some other cases were running amok, Kiyoko and the Tokyo Twelve’s children were starting to get involved with them -- by receiving this same special digivice and forming a link with some digimon involved in incidents and attacks. But one of those kids had decided to form a link with a special digimon… And kept it a secret.
  Yagami Taisuke, the Self-Proclaimed Rival
Taisuke is Taichi and Sora’s only child in Daichi’s world. The reason for this strange family to work well is… Taichi and Sora managed to solve their personal issues and became a couple. To make this couple get hitched and be more functional they had to become mature people first. And they did that. Taisuke is the youngest of the Tokyo Twelve’s kids, having 10 years in 2029. Since both parents are important figures -- Taichi because he’s the Ambassador, and Sora because of being the daughter of Takenouchi Toshiko, who’s still the Head Master of the Takenouchi school of traditional Japanese flower arrangement at this moment. But Sora also started to get her own recognition in her own area -- as a fashion designer specialized in Japanese style -- Taisuke is… overshadowed by his parents fame and treated as “The Digital World ambassador’s son” or “Takenouchi Toshiko’s grandson” or “Takenouchi Sora’s son”. This makes him mad every time because he’s not seen as himself but rather as someone’s son/grandson. This explains why he’s mostly mad at everyone not seeing Daichi as “Worldwide famous Ramen Chef Motomiya Daisuke’s son” and why he self-proclaimed himself to be Daichi’s rival.
It can be said that, during the same moment Daichi was facing Lupinmon… Taisuke was witnessing another event: A black Agumon coming from a gate area nearby his house. This Agumon wasn’t normal though, it had been looking for an old acquaintance from the past. Taisuke didn’t know what this meant, but he couldn’t ignore that critter. Once they were facing some evil guys, a D-TimeRune appeared in front of the boy and he decided to accept it, forming a link with that BlackAgumon. The Rune of Courage appeared for both of them -- and thus they faced the enemy digimon together.
But… Taisuke couldn’t tell his parents about that. So, he hid BlackAgumon inside the digivice and kept facing tough enemies in the shadows… As the Brave Tamer.
The more Taichi was involved in this whole mess against this Lupinmon menace, the more Taichi spent times busier and out of his home. This kept making Taisuke feel anguished and revolted, because he wanted his family to be together again. And it seemed like Sora was… acting like her mother when it comes to Taisuke -- wanting him to stay safe. So, she asked Piyomon to watch him for her, as the boy’s bodyguard.
Kiyoko and Captain the Hawkmon (and Others)
When Daichi returned for his first adventure in an alternate year 2002, Kiyoko interrupted his sleep by showing a hurt two head-feathered Poromon who was escaping from the bad guys. During the night, she, Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu were fighting an unknown digimon chasing the girl and the Poromon, until discovering it was a BlackGuilmon via the digimon scan mode of the D-TimeRune. While Kiyoko fled with the bird baby digimon in her arms, she vowed to protect him… And this led her to a digivice which she used to form a link with Poromon.
Poromon evolved into Hawkmon, one with a bandana and two head feathers under it and visible on the side of his head, and then introduced himself as Captain, a pirate of the seven seas. He beats the foe and Natsu traps it inside one of her plasma bubbles, but then they’re surprised by a strange pair of shadows. Daichi and Ulforce go after them, while Natsu takes Kiyoko and Captain back home, where they would just report to Miyako what had happened that night.
During the chase, the human-like shadow shows to have a digivice too, with a symbol of a sun in it. The digimon partnered with the shadow evolved into a Greymon -- But none of them were able to recognize if it was a normal Greymon or some other digimon. The shadow then jumps on the Greymon-like back and disappears in the landscape. Daichi and Ulforce return home, wondering if that human would be a foe or not.
After that encounter with the mysterious kid with a digivice like his and Kiyoko’s… Ulforce mentions about the kid having the Fragment of Courage, and then they got this small talk about what those symbols are and points out Daichi’s flame-like symbol is called Fragment of Tenacity, meanwhile Kiyoko’s paw-like symbol is the Fragment of Determination. Those felt the same words and some connection to the crest of Courage, but they were viewed as their own variants of it according to Natsu.
What are those “Fragments” though? Are they something similar to the crests? They are the core of the crests actually. The origins of those symbols came from the ancient Digital World era, as some clan symbols -- and those digimon created ways to spread those traits through their own clan and the entire Digital World. Powers that enriched the land and planet.
Meanwhile Eiji and Hoshi, the Ichijouji siblings (children of Ken and Hikari in this world) had met their future partners -- a BlackTailmon and a Wormmon, respectively. In the pinch of danger, both siblings got digivices and linked themselves to those two digimon in order to save them from the enemy. Eiji got the Fragment of Kindness, while Hoshi got the Fragment of Happiness, which had a cherry blossom flower as a symbol. Later they would nickname their mons as Kitty and Sting, respectively.
Other children in their circle of friends would’ve gotten digivices and partners too, when involved in a fewer attacks of Lupinmon’s troops. Reika (Iori’s daughter) partnered with an Armadimon and getting the Fragment of Fairness (a burgundy Scale symbol), Jin (Jou’s son) got partnered with a Kamemon and got the Fragment of Reliability, Mike (Mimi’s trans son) got partnered with a Floramon and got the Fragment of Sincerity. Another case happened to Mitsuki (Takeru’s son) and Mirai (Koushiro’s daughter), who were found by their partners Tsukaimon and KoKabuterimon in the meantime. Mitsuki got the Fragment of Hope, while Mirai the Fragment of Knowledge.
Elise, Yamato’s daughter, had a different case and encounter.
Elise and the Mysterious BlackGabumon
Elise is a very refined child -- she’s courteous, calm and has a sweet singing voice. She ends up finding a hurt Gabumon in the playground and then asking her cousin Mitsuki to help her to treat the mon’s wounds. While they spend time together, the BlackGabumon starts forming a link with Elise and later, when she’s in danger… He comes to her rescue. However, that BlackGabumon wasn’t unusual -- he was one of the soldiers of Lupinmon’s troops, but he refuses to take part in those activities anymore and then turns into Elise’s partner. Elise receives a blue D-TimeRune, and the Fragment of Friendship.
Meanwhile, Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu were off town and traveling through space-time again, searching for the event which led to Daisuke turning into Lupinmon and stopping it from happening. But Daichi ended up in another alternative world. Since Daichi was so interested in Daisuke’s backstory… He tried to investigate Daisuke’s past, but Natsu prevented him from learning more about it. She immediately “ejected” them from that world, but instead of going back to the Dimensional Space dungeon, she threw them into a battle between… Lupinmon and Ichijouji Ken!?
Somehow, Daichi’s presence there only proved to Ken that Lupinmon was Daisuke -- as the opponent avoided attacking the kid and the others. But this didn’t last for much time, and then Ken had to retreat and take the trio with him. Daichi had to explain to his mother and to Ken what was happening, but they couldn’t let Daichi risk his life like that. But Daichi didn’t talk about his space-time travel mission, or the plan to go back in time and prevent Daisuke from getting captured.
The captured enemies from the previous times Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu had been involved were sent to a special facility to prevent them from getting hurt. There, Ken worked as the lead of the Special Digimon Cases Unit from the police -- an investigation team. Using his best tricks to make the criminals talk, Ken got more information about what was going on and what were Lupinmon’s goal -- to close the gates connecting to the Digital World permanently, separating both worlds from each other again and forever.
Besides Ken, the mysterious kid fighting against the troops -- who later would’ve been revealed to be Taisuke under the “Brave Tamer” alias -- had an excellent intel team on his side: Mirai and Mitsuki. Mirai is a prodigy young girl, with a tinker-like mind and skills. She might be young, but her interest in technology and building/programming stuff only made her become skilled enough to obtain information and stuff from her own father’s network and database. Meanwhile Mitsuki has the power of gathering information by the power of a strong fanbase watching his videos and forum posts. He also has inherited Takaishi Natsuko’s investigative reporter skills, being able to research and get whatever he needs.
Besides that, Ken and the Tokyo Twelve group were also investigating Daisuke’s disappearance. And Ken had to update them with what he had discovered recently. Their Children weren’t aware of those news, so they kept working to protect innocents instead.
  The Unknown Trio
Despite everything, a mysterious duo with a Coronamon and a Lunamon popped into the story. Children with no actual background or database -- Chosen Children unknown to Koushiro and Taichi… Or even to the entire Network. Soleil (FR: Sun) and Lune (FR: Moon) were mischievous kids fighting the enemies without any affiliation to a side. There was one more detail: Soleil claimed to be the “new vessel” of Homeostasis, and that he was chosen to eliminate those who were disturbing the peace of the Digital World.
Something fishy, yes. Hikari and the others knew Homeostasis wouldn’t be this harsh, or act as some punisher. Homeostasis is a gentle teacher-like security system. Not a god nor a warrior.
Lune, on the other side, was the peacemaker of the duo -- She’s a psychic like Hikari, so she used her powers in order to find the best peaceful method to put an end to any fight. She seemed to be the one able to reason with Soleil and make him step back or retreat. With those children involved, the Twelve, and the Neo Chosen had this new issue.
But they weren’t alone -- There was a brain in their team, Étoile (FR: Star), but this one didn’t like to appear in public… So they only would learn about his existence a little later. Étoile has a fellow partner, a purple Pokomon/Viximon named Renard. Étoile works as the technician of Solei-Lune’s operations, always saving them when things go south.
Soleil’s hidden background is that he’s the son of a very rich family, but neglected by parents. His real name is Youta, and he’s a year older than Daichi. His nonchalant behavior combined with a charismatic aura makes him irresistible to form an alliance, but deep down he hides a fierce and vigilante demeanor… Resulting in him being quite terrible if you turn him into your enemy. He likes to think he’s a hero of justice, and his senses are quite twisted at this point…
Lune’s secret story is that she's a very smart and talented girl called Mizuki, who used to be doing favors for others all the time, borrowing her notes, letting them work in group projects… But they also liked to ask her for fortune readings, so she was seen as the most popular fortune teller in town. She had this sixth sense and legit psychic powers, lending her to learn in advance what to do and to solve people’s problems. But she’s unable to stand for herself, and is sacrificial in order to bring order and peace. She crosses her path with Youta’s and then they realize they’re made to be partners in this whole war against the darkness and evil.
Later, they find Étoile (whose real name is Noel) and they form an alliance  -- whose objective is to beat Lupinmon and any other enemy in their way, to bring peace back to the worlds.
Soleil is Daichi’s “true” rival, and their personalities since they met. Meanwhile, Lune seems to have some interest in Daichi’s pacifism methods.
Soleil has gotten the Fragment of Light, while Lune the Fragment of Energy (which symbol is a stylized Yin-Yang)
A Brief Side-story: Daichi Meets Akira
One of the worlds depicted in the project… Is an alternative timeline where Daisuke managed to get courage enough to confess his feelings for Hikari, who also had strong feelings for him. In this world, Akira and his sister Amy are a duo fighting evil alongside their older cousin Takara (Taichi’s and Saiba Rei’s daughter), who is the leader of their group.
Daichi accidentally goes to this world while trying to go home, but he realizes the couple of people who also exist in this world did not recognize him, or think he, Ulforce and Natsu are allies of the real villain -- Gokumon/Reapermon.
Akira is the clumsiest sweetpie child in town, also a little fired up, who tends to solve stuff in the most peaceful way. His partner is a Plotmon with an unique Tailmon variant form: a Snowshoe-like cat. But, besides that form, Akira is clueless about which form his beloved Hana (the Plotmon’s name) would take in the future.
Natsu’s pendant is stolen by Shadramon, and they have to search for it. With Akira and Takara’s help, they manage to get the pendant back but they are forced to face Shadramon. It’s when Hana evolves into a Snowshoe variant of Nefertimon and alongside Ulforce and Takara’s V-dramon (Zero) they beat it.
This wouldn’t be the last time Daichi & co. would see those kids…
Lupinmon’s Foggy Memories & Meeting Daisuke from the Past
The encounters with Daichi only triggered Daisuke’s memories, and he started to slowly regain control of himself. Still, this wasn’t enough to make him realize he’s the human those people and digimon are talking about. And when he’s this close to connect the dots, Lupinmon’s boss, a higher rank digimon (Perfect level) -- Papillonmon -- used his powers to keep Daisuke under the enemy’s control. So neither Daisuke or Magnamon could do anything… This vile digimon also has a higher rank master, but this will be left to another time.
With Lupinmon’s troops gaining forces, and some other allies of the vile digimon coming through, the Twelve and the Chosen Network have to take action and prevent more chaos and misfortune. At this point Taisuke, Mirai and Mitsuki are too deep into the battle that they cannot go back anymore -- Taisuke then is caught by Kiyoko and Eiji, who complain of him doing all the ‘cool’ stuff all alone. They don’t know what they could do to help now, though… Taisuke gives all the details of what’s happening and then Kiyoko finally learns that his dad is one of the enemies. The shock does not change her desire to come to rescue him. But the only thing that makes her EXTREMELY mad is that Daichi was hiding that secret from her.
Not that Daichi wanted to hide those from her, but more like he was too focused on his goal he couldn’t tell her anything yet. And he wasn’t in town again… Where did Daichi go?
He was finally in the past. But possibly not from his timeline.
Daichi arrived in the past, meeting a 17 year old Daisuke who was still in High School and working harder on his life goal -- But still clueless about how to make this dream come true. At first, this moody Daisuke treats Daichi with suspicion, as if he could read Daichi’s intentions just by looking into the boy’s eyes. Daichi trying to warn him about some enemy didn’t work either.
Daisuke hated the idea of him turning evil and hurting his own friends, he refused to hear that kid’s story -- he won’t believe it at all. Daichi was losing his patience with this, until they’re attacked by an enemy digimon from Duskmon’s army. It’s then when Daichi sees Lighdra-Glaive and the Lightnimon armor in person. He believes it’s too late and that Daisuke had become a digimon already.
Daisuke/Lightni growls as this kid is definitely going to ruin everything and tries to hide from him. V-mon asks why Daisuke is so nervous about the kid’s warnings and he says it’s because this means he would lose his mind and do something worse. V-mon realizes Daisuke means this whole façade is starting to damage his poor mind, and this brings V-mon the flashback of what Ranamon had said about Duskmon. If Daisuke is going to run amok, then…
But no, Daichi is so sure he can prevent this from happening!! He got there! He will… He will save Daisuke at all costs!! Ulforce wonders if Lightnimon is a real digimon though, it felt more like an armor than a ‘digimon form’ … V-mon explains Daisuke is pretending to be a digimon, but this only makes things worse for Daichi & co. -- This means he’s doing it on purpose right? EXCEPT V-mon denies, and says he’s actually doing those because Daisuke got brainwashed by the enemy, Duskmon. Natsu is concerned about Daisuke right now, but V-mon assures her they’re not doing anything evil or bad, and yes beating the enemies all alone.
All Alone… But why? Wasn’t Daisuke’s group of friends able to beat those enemies? V-mon frowns, saying Daisuke is too paranoid and afraid of getting others hurt to indirectly hit him that he’s pulling this whole façade all alone. Ulforce sighs, because this felt like a bad idea, Daichi and Natsu agree. Daisuke stares at them from a distance, that kid really came to ruin his disguise… Daichi comes to talk with Daisuke again, but the other refuses to believe he would turn into the enemy in the future. Daichi shakes his head, saying he’s not talking about that, but rather wanting Daisuke to go back to his friends. Daisuke snaps, that kid really doesn’t understand what’s happening there. Natsu reminds Daisuke the real Daisuke wouldn’t do that and would fight the enemy alongside the group instead. V-mon tries to stop them before Daisuke could do something harsh, but he just sits here pouting like a kid.
It’s not like he doesn’t want to go back to the group… He then says he had done awful things already, he threatened his own friends… He was lying to them, he was toying with everyone… He believes he’s no longer the same anymore. The trio frown, this feels bad… Until Daichi says his friends wouldn’t judge him and if he explains what’s going on they might understand. This is when Daisuke notices the kid is not a legit nuisance like he was thinking of. But they were attacked by Vulturemon, a bounty hunter affiliated to Duskmon.
During the battle, BurningFladramon and Ulforce XV-mon form face it together, with Natsu and Daisuke (as Lightnimon) as support. Once they beat the enemy and Daisuke is safe to be himself, he looks at Daichi: I don’t want your world to disappear because of me. We can handle this by ourselves. If I turn evil… My friends will stop me quickly!!
With those words, and “Please go back to your time and help future-me there” as requested, Daichi realizes what he must do. Then, Natsu opens the gate to the Dimensional Space dungeon and they vanish. Daisuke then says he will come to talk with the others, but then… He sees Ken seeking for Lightni in the middle of the forest. Daisuke looks at V-mon and says that he can’t go back to the group yet, so he asks the digimon to bear with him a little more.
  Another Side-story: Daichi Meets Toshi
While trying to return back to his world… Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu are thrown into another alternative future, one where things are even worse than in their home timeline. In this world they meet Toshi, Daisuke and Ken’s adoptive son, who had orphaned when he was very little -- his biological parents were killed by a menace digimon -- Megidramon -- and he had to grow up in a foster house. He escaped from there countless times until he met Daisuke, told his story and then Daisuke decided he couldn’t turn his back on him. In this world, Daisuke and Ken became a couple, and they tried to have a child by a surrogate mother, but they had no success. Toshi’s adoption came in handy, and their family was all happy until the day ChaosDukemon, the other side of Megidramon, came to eliminate that child and the Twelve Chosen.
Daichi arries in the middle of a battle against WaruMonzaemon, one of ChaosDukemon’s lackeys. Toshi’s partner, Shadow the Impmon -- In his Sorcerimon form -- casts a spell to distract the enemy and teleport everyone -- Daichi & co. included -- to a safer place.
There, they learn more about Toshi’s world and what’s happening with him. Apparently him being the ‘bearer of darkness’ is driving dark-evil digimon into their doorstep, and he cannot leave his new family and friends get hurt. Daichi offers him some help, and then they start making a plan to defeat WaruMonzaemon.
In the meantime, Socerimon evolves with the power of forbidden knowledge into Baalmon, and then they get more advantage against the evil lackey. Not only that, but Ulforce evolves into AeroV-dramon but with the V-bracelets in it. Daichi and Toshi are perplexed, since XV-mon is a purebreed V-mon line while V-dramon line is another kind of line. How could Ulforce be able to evolve into a V-dramon family member!? Who knows…
Once they beat WaruMonzaemon, Toshi says he will protect everyone and everything from ChaosDukemon at any cost. Daichi appreciates that vibe and with this he, Ulforce and Natsu return to their home.
Still this wouldn’t be the last time they would see Toshi and Shadow…
The Enemy’s Plan and the Neo Chosen’s Strategy
While Daichi was out, Ken and the others involved in this fight against Lupinmon discovered the plans of those evil digimon: Their original intent was to bring the Digimon Kaiser back and then force the digimon to distrust humans, forcing them to close the gates and separate the Digital World from the Human World again. But those plans were screwed up by Daisuke and his sacrificial tendencies.
But those plans changed -- They were still going after Ken, of course… But for another reason now.
Mirai kept feeding Taisuke and Kiyoko about the details she could get from her father’s database. Eiji and Hoshi were nervous to learn that their father is a target. They couldn’t let that happen, but their parents wouldn’t allow them to get involved.
It was when Daichi returned. He was so sure he had to rescue his father that he didn’t realize that… Yes, all the worlds and timelines he visited before didn’t disappear -- they only generated a divergent timeline from those events. A new door appeared every time he left a timeline.
But now he had to build a plan to save Daisuke. And this is where the other Tokyo Twelve’s children got in. They were so passionate about their families and friends that they would break the orders of their parents and relatives to protect those bonds. Daichi wanted to go alone, but this would only make him commit Daisuke-from-the-past’s mistakes as well. Taisuke, Kiyoko, Eiji and Hoshi offered to come with him and be his backup.
As they go into the Digital World, the group starts unlocking forms based on their Rune Fragment. Aquilamon (Captain) evolves into Hookmon (one which had the perfect-level power); Stingmon (Sting) into Cannonbeemon, BlackTailmon (Kitty) into BlackRapidmon, and Greymon virus (Draki) into MetalGreymon virus. The more they strengthened their bonds with their digimon, the more they started unlocking more and more power in order to beat the enemy’s army.
Daichi then is stopped by a Gennai clone, who sends a countermeasure against Magnamon’s powers to the boy’s digivice. This Gennai clone says it was an important item borrowed from the Holy Beasts. Daichi checks his digivice and notices it’s a golden Digimental. But why would he need a Digimental?? It wasn’t just a regular digimental -- It was the Digimental of Destiny.
The group started to get divided between enemies: Kiyoko and Captain were left behind to fight Mermaimon. Hoshi and Sting against Ookuwagamon, Eiji and Kitty against Doumon. Taisuke and Daichi, alongside their partners and Natsu, went straight to the main goal -- Lupinmon.
But, in their way there’s a MetalTyrannomon. It’s when Taisuke says he will take down that enemy while he leaves the rest to Daichi. Daichi, Ulforce and Natsu agree, and then they move to the next area, going after Lupinmon.
The next obstacle was Magnamon himself. But Magnamon had a black armor instead of the usual golden one. Natsu then realized the Digimental wasn’t for Ulforce and yes for her. But… Can Daichi make a link with Natsu? A digimon already partnered with someone else? Also, what happened with her partner though!?
  Natsu’s Armor-Evolution: Magnabbitmon
Natsu is not a usual digimon. She was linked to that space-time dungeon and not partnered with any human before. Or rather, she was partnered with a person from another parallel world: Daisuke’s counterpart of Warlock’s world -- Lance Duskstella. This kid came from a world where the digimon and the humans were in an endless fight in a world made of magic instead. And this kid studied harder to defend the digimon from the humans, imagining a world where both could co-exist in peace. He believed in the existence of this place, and wanted so hard to open a gate to it. Natsu, or rather, ChibiBunnymon was a small digimon which came with a special power: the ability to open gates into the multiverse.
She was hunted by vile people and digimon, and always afraid of everyone… Until she met Lance. It was the first time she went in contact with someone with a person who lacked malice… She became his friend and partner, and then he learned about the existence of other worlds and timelines, events which happened differently… And events he wished to be part of his life. But unlike the others who were chasing Natsu, he never wanted to use her powers for himself. And when he was assassinated… He left with her a spell to find him again.
Or at least, one of his counterparts in the multiverse.
Was Daisuke destined to find Natsu by sheer accident? Or was it part of that spell? Nevertheless, Natsu went looking for this person… For a long long time ago. But Daisuke, Mimi and Wallace never had found a partner for Natsu. And one day… The egg vanished from Mimi’s house. Mimi, Wallace and Daisuke couldn’t explain what happened, or why the egg disappeared, and they had a little hard time dealing with it.
Until… They met again later.
Was Daichi… connected to Lance? Well, maybe? (I’m not going to spoil my other project ok)
Daichi isn’t sure if he can form a link with Natsu, but he had to try. So he did all the steps like if he had no partner digimon already, and it worked. Natsu now was connected to Daichi, and he used the Digimental on her -- She armor evolved into a Magnamon counterpart: Magnabbitmon.
Magnabbitmon was able to face Magnamon’s power equally, and then left Daichi and Ulforce to face Lupinmon all alone.
But could Daichi fight his dad? I mean, he’s a human, right? What if Ulforce killed him by accident!? The kid wasn’t thinking straight… Lupinmon tried attacking them, But Ulforce protected Daichi. XV-mon reminds Daichi this isn’t the right hour to be hesitant, and keeps Lupinmon busy. Daichi starts to think: How can they bring his dad back to his senses? There must be something!!
Then he looks at the goggles hidden under his aviator scarf. Yes… Maybe that could help!! Now what to do with them? He approaches the battle with them on his head, and then jumps on Ulforce’s back the moment his partner backs off. He tells Ulforce to bring him closer to Lupinmon, and that has a plan. Ulforce nods and flies in Lupinmon’s direction, shoving the lupine-like digimon to the wall, and then pinned him on it.
Daichi, on XV-mon’s shoulder, shows the goggles to Lupinmon and starts telling him to remember who he is. Lupinmon starts wavering… But it worked. Daisuke was able to break the mental control pulled by Papillonmon. A strange butterfly shadow leaves his body (in the Magna vs Magnabbit battle, another one leaves Magna’s body) -- Daisuke and Magnamon immediately destroy those with their powers. Daichi asks what was that thing and Daisuke says it was the bug controlling him and Magnamon.
It was when Papillonmon himself appeared and attacked them, Daisuke shielded Daichi and got hit… But instead of dying he turned into a small baby II-like digimon and fell unconscious. Ulforce and Natsu try to attack Papillonmon, but he leaves an army of brainwashed Manticoremon behind. Magnamon had devolved back to Chibimon form due to exhaustion and now there were two baby digimon in Daichi’s arms. The others come right there and they join the fight, opening a path to the exit.
Now that they have rescued Daisuke and V-mon… All they have left is fighting Papillonmon, right?
… Right?

❛ What's your favourite cartoon? ❜
Tumblr media
She's thinking.
Tumblr media
"I've been around a long time, seen a lot of Saturday morning cartoons. While I wouldn't say I am an avid fan of anything cartoon wise- I do like the old school tom and jerry. I like heckle and jeckle. Mighty mouse. I thought the little bit of digimon I saw was cute. I liked Metabots. I think it was called chowder? Hell I even liked Sagwa and dragon tales. I didn't catch much of the shows that aired in the afternoon. I'm usually doing something else by then, but sailor moon was decent on toonami or whatever it was called.
Caught some of the adult swim stuff like FMA. Nothing really enough to get a coherent story line for anything where it mattered. But I've seen a large handful of cartoons. I guess out of all of them I'm gonna go with whatever that one is with the critters and he gets like transported into a game with monsters. Evil guys name is ridiculous. I don't remember it's name but I think that one is my favourite. I liked the animation and critter design."

I was tagged by alemanriq (a lot of time ago...I'm revising my drafts. Thanks tho, Ale! ♥)
Tag the person who tagged you and let them know when you’ve finished. (I'm not doing this, tagging people gives me anxiety)
Answer the questions/tasks and then tag 20 people and let them know they’ve been tagged
1. How tall are you? 1.58 m
2. What color and style is your hair? Dark brown and straight
3. Which color are your eyes? Dark brown, almost black
4. Do you wear glasses or contacts? I used to wear glasses but I never got used to them so I dropped them, didn't need them that much.
5. Do you wear braces? I should but I'm not.
6. What’s your fashion style? I like formal attire or close to formal: coats, boots, shirts and jeans, maybe a sweater but a thin one. Dresses in summer.

This is the part where you tag 20 people! As for me, if you read this you are tagged! You can tag me if u fill this btw, my anxiety only goes one way.

Monster Replays the Truthful Route: Part 4
Sorry for the delay, folks!
Warning: You know the deal. Digimon Survive spoilers under the cut.
While working on this part, the draft accidentally got deleted. So, I'm only gonna give a few of my thoughts on the beginning part, then skip right to the exploration part of the amusement park.
I think this game really hits us with the fact that the villains are not indispensable. As Piedmon says, if Arukenimon fails, there is sure to be another one to take her place. And if Piedmon doesn't already convince you in Part 4, just wait until he brutally murders her in Part 7.
Takuma and co. are understandably scared. Sure, Ryo might have survived, but are they really sure they can survive next time? Can they ever get out of this world. If so, can they get out of this world alive? We all know they do because this is the Truthful route, and nobody dies in the Truthful route, but at this point of the story, the Survive gang isn't so sure.
Takuma: Kaito, we have to stick together! You can't go off on your own!
Kaito: stfu
Dracmon: I agree with Takuma!
Kaito: Hmmm, if my little vampire gremlin agrees with you, then you must have a point.
Well, unless you choose the bad ending.
Kunemon (≧◡≦)
Finding Miu!
I really enjoy Ryo's dynamic with Minoru.
Patamon, Palmon, and Biyomon are so stupid! I love them!
BREAKING NEWS: Angry Mean Big Human Beats Up Guards!
The Queen: "Oh, brother. I've never been so embarrassed!"
Okay, that's all I'm gonna bother remembering. Let's get back to Finding Miu!
Dracmon: GRROOOAAARRR! I'm gonna eat you!
Falcomon: All of you... prepare to die!
I love Ryo's speech to Kunemon before he evolves to Flymon, so I'm just gonna share the screenshots of it (warning for poor quality, though).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While making this post, my phone died A-FUCKING-GAIN, so I lost a good chunk of it. Then, while trying to remember what the hell I typed down, I accidentally closed out of Tumblr. So if there are any weird skips, I apologize.
Kaito: I'm... I'm all she has. So I have to look out for her.
After playing the Harmony route, this line especially hits hard.
Something I just noticed: All of the servants names start with P (yeah, I know that in English it's Biyomon with a B, but they're also called Piyomon in Japan, so...).
Minoru: I'm saying if we stand around here talking for too long those pesky little things will-
Palmon: Looking for us?
Tumblr media
They're in the four-shadow! Like the one they were talking about earlier!
OMGZORZ, can you believe that they made Goth TK an actual, CANON character in Digimon Survive?
Tumblr media
A touching reunion, indeed. *wipes tear from eye*
If I'm being honest, I'd also be annoyed if my older brother crashed my throne room.
Tumblr media
She looks so annoyed XD
Tumblr media
Of course it's Ryo that says this.
Tumblr media
Makes sense, given how MarineAngemon helped carry my first few playthroughs.
Tumblr media
Kaito: I just worry about her, that's all.
Saki: Well, sometimes it can feel suffocating being on the other side of that.
This honestly makes me wonder about Saki's family. From what I can tell from her Prologue story, her parents (or at least her mother) seem to be massive worrywarts. Though given Saki's illness, it's understandable.
KAITO YOU IDIOT, STOP PUNCHING THE WALL!
It's the Old 'Mon himself!
I can understand why Minoru and Shuuji are suspicious of Jijimon. After all, the last time they found an adult they thought they could trust, she turned out to be a weird spider lady that wanted to sacrifice them.
But seriously, Jijimon is a sweetheart. <3
Ryo: This sucks. These guys are such bad news. I can't believe we're taking them on again.
Kunemon...
Ryo: Yeah, I know.
Ryo: I don't want Miu to have to go through what I experienced yesterday.
Kunemon: Kew!
Ryo: Heh! Yeah... you're right. We've just gotta do this!
Shuuji's affinity dialogue rubs me the wrong way. Though I guess that's because of the localization.
Okay, I'm just gonna say it here and now: Miu's more of a Digimon Kaiser-equivelent than the hypothetical Ken-equivelent ever will be.
Kaito, did you seriously punch GARURUMON!?
I love the pre-Shellmon scene as well. Unfortunately, I hit the photo limit, so I'm gonna have to copy the dialogue from scratch.
Miu: Oh no! Kaito!
Syakomon: So, you ARE worried about what happens to him?
Miu: Of course I am! He's my brother!
Miu: I just don't like him being overprotective, and I hate how he never gives me any space.
Miu: When he gets like that, it reminds me of... things I really don't want to remember.
Syakomon: And that's why you were so mean to him?
Miu: Yeah, but he's still my brother.
Miu: Only after I can't do anything...
[Insert Patamon and Biyomon getting their asses kicked by Garurumon here]
Miu: Oh no! They're all hurt again!
Miu: Syakomon, tell me, what should I do?
Miu: They're all fighting for me like I'm really their queen, but...
Miu: I haven't done anything for them!
Syakomon: Miu... what do you want to do?
Miu: I... I don't want to let anyone... To let my brother die...
Miu: I don't want to lose everyone after lying to them, or my brother after fighting with him!
Miu: I want to protect everyone else for a change!
Miu: Syakomon, please! Save Kaito!
Syakomon: Oh, I'm so happy you said that! Finally, you were able to be honest with how you feel.
Miu: Syakomon!?
Syakomon: I've been waiting this whole time for you to be honest with me.
Syakomon: Because when you wish for something with your whole heart, I can be as strong as you need!
Miu: What!? Syakomon, what's happening!?
Syakomon: Miu, I'm here to make your wishes come true! So for your sake, I'll grow strong!
Syakomon, evolve tooo...!
[Insert evolution into Shellmon here]
Easily one of my favorite scenes in the whole game.
Anyways, I evolved her straight to Azulongmon and oneshotted Garurumon.
I love the music that plays when the Survive gang learn that there's a way to go back to the Human World via the boundary.
Jijimon: Many times I have witnessed the strong bond between my friend and their human child.
Jijimon: Though it was long ago, and my memories have fades. Yet had that child been sacrificed...
Jijimon: My friend would not have fared well. Those who share such strong bonds share the same fate.
Jijimon: Yet my friend still lives. This in itself is proof that the child is alive somewhere.
The scene between Takuma, Agumon, Kaito and Dracmon is really sweet.
Dracmon: What's this? Kaito being open and honest about how he feels for once? No way!
Pffft XD
And that concludes Part 4. For how much of a pain in the ass this post was to make, I still really enjoyed this part (though that might be because it focuses on two of my favorite characters, Ryo and Miu). Miu learned her lesson, and boy, I sure learned mine...

I have a very spotty memory about my personal life, especially my teen years. But that post about middle school anime (and having to Google how old I would have been in 7th grade to figure out what year it was) got me wondering about the exact timeline of how I went from "gets into anime" to "realizes I'm trans." Thankfully I still remember most of the websites I used as a teen and my usernames so I was able to do some sleuthing and I think I've assembled the timeline of how my egg cracked.
1998: Pokemon debuts in America and a very young me is instantly hooked. This would lead to a lifeline obsession and also interest in such shows as Digimon and Monster Rancher.
2002: As I enter middle school, I learn the term anime for the shows I was really into as a kid. I begin actively seeking out anime and get into Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha at around the same time. At the same time, puberty starts to rear its ugly head and while I can't put my finger on the why I am immensely uncomfortable with the changes happening to my body.
2004: As I begin to spend more time online I start getting into fanfic and make a fanfiction.net account. One day, while browsing Inuyasha fanfic I stumble upon an InuyashaxRanma 1/2 crossover. I look up what Ranma 1/2 is, and something clicks in my brain. I start getting really obsessed with stories where guys get turned into girls. I seek out fanfics and web comics about it.
2005: I make a Gaia Online account, with a male avatar.
2006: I change my Gaia avatar to a girl. I make a journal entry about this that's evasive about why. From my best recollection, this is about when my egg started cracking. I think at this point I'm still thinking of myself in terms of "A guy who wants to be a girl" and at least on Gaia I'm still referring to myself as [Dead name]
2007(?): Exact timeline is inexact because Super Smash Bros Brawl had a long pre release cycle, but during a joke topic on the GameFAQs message boards for Brawl I claim to be a girl. This is one of the first times I call myself a girl on the internet, and being called a girl and treated like a girl by others kind of shifts my internal self perception to "I am a girl" finally.
Honestly, there's something really comforting about being able to travel back down memory lane and hunt down my past online presence like this because just looking this stuff up helped me recall all this, and for someone who struggles to remember stuff from back then... it's nice.

Digimon Tamers - Episode 13
Whelp I guess they used up all the budget for episode 12 because this one was really bad. Like unpleasant to watch at times bad. You can't tell from my screenshots, but most of this episode was composed of still images, extreme close ups, and lazy silhouettes. Oh well, this is just the nature of these older, long-ish shows.
Notes:
So from the opening shot I knew this was gonna be a rough one. An overly long silhouetted battle between Guilmon and...some other digimon they didn't feel like animating properly lol. The shot that annoyed me the most though was the scene where Takato is talking with his teacher and the camera is zoomed out on their basically still bodies. Takato's teacher is frozen in this unnatural pose with her hand on her face for waaaay too long. I was like "MOVE!" There was a similar shot at Jian's family's dinner table where one of his sisters was frozen, smiling at the screen while everyone else was moving. These are the things I notice as an adult lol. Really takes you out of it.
Since there was so little animation, this episode compensated with a lot of talk with HYPNOS rambling on about their latest plans. I had to keep rewinding because there was a lot of jargon and I would zone out because there was nothing to look at on screen. The worst offender was the "Zoom call" (I know Zoom wasn't a thing) between the main HYPNOS dude and his colleagues. I thought maybe the images on screen were supposed to be profile photos because they didn't move, but then they moved slightly! Were those supposed to be live videos?? Was one guy just in "swinging-a-golf-club" pose for like 10 minutes straight? They should have just kept them still at that point...
Tumblr media
The writing for Asanuma-sensei is so weird. She tells Takato that she thinks she "made a mistake" becoming a teacher. Uh...TMI! You don't say that to your 10 year old student! And then Takato agrees with her, which was so shady lol. I guess I wasn't wrong when I said she sounded dead inside.
Juri's Guilmon doodle was adorable. Glad she's sticking up for Takato. I like her little dog puppet, but can't help but feel if she did that IRL she'd get bullied :/
I really don't like the HYPNOS ladies. Their jobs are just too vague and they don't really have personalities. They always look off-model too.
So...main HYPNOS guy is racist?? Suggesting that Jian's family should pronounce their names the JAPANESE way. Geez. You don't see racism brought up too often in anime unless it's fantasy racism, so I found that interesting. Since their names were Americanized in the dub, I guess its probably left out.
So Jian's dad was one of the creators of Digimon like Oikawa? I didn't see that coming. Definitely the most intriguing revelation of the episode. If he knows about Digimon then...wouldn't he realize that Terriermon is one?
Impmon telling Culumon that his "culu culu" gimmick is annoying was satisfying not gonna lie lol. I want to see more of the two of them together.
Chinese characters always seem to have big families in anime. I guess that's the stereotype in Japan. Seems weird to me because of the old "one child" policy, but what do I know? (I guess Chinese immigrants in Japan would be a different story).
Sooo...mysterious ending with Terriermon acting hypnotized (haha HYPNOS...get it?) Kind of alarming since he was smacking into the window. I was struggling to digest the explanation but I think HYPNOS is baiting the digimon so that they can destroy them?
We get some hint of a potential big bad because one of the enemy digimon mentions his "God..." They're sure taking their time to cut to the chase with this one.

Mooore Digimon Frontier thoughts
30 - Soar! The Warrior of Darkness, Velgmon -OOOH? Is this a Darkness Beast Spirit?! -The kids are looking for Koji. Junpei laments that Koji is always going off on his own… I mean, this time it was kind of the huge explosion that blasted him away dude haha -First half of the episode is mostly a confrontation between Duskmon and Beowulfmon. It actually had a really sad and futile feel to it. -Cherubimon get up to naughtiness and turns Not-Koji into Velgmon with the Darkness Beast Spirit. I THINk I've seen Velgmon before but don't know where. Might just be whilst cruising through Wikimon one time. -So Velgmon is actually super strong and terrifying! Interesting how he attacks Cherubimon('s shadow) after evolving. I guess even being an evil manipulative angel boss man can't override the Beast Spirit Crazies. -Zone Deleter was a cool attack. Nice to see how close Koji genuinely was to absolute annihilation. The stakes really have been upped since Duskmon's introduction. -Sidenote, Patamon has just been born but still has more sense than the rest of the gang, lol. I thought it was cute though. Tunnel your way out! -Ophanimon comes to save the day! …via Koji's Digivice, of course. Velgmon remembers some of his human past… AND WE FINALLY GET THE NAME DROP. So he's Koichi!! And he IS Koji's brother! Which is not surprising but I like the build up to this so far. What's their deal?! Maybe they're twins separated at birth? Or Koji's father had an affair or something?? That'd be an interesting sibling story for Digimon to tackle. Tell me your secrets, show. haha -I really like the song that played during Koichi's flashback. Gave some chill but sombre vibes.
31 - The Trailmon Graveyard - Sleeping in Darkness -All right, everybody reunites! …and Koji charges off again haha. Takuya follows him. -Also the moment where Junpei says "the nosy guy gets killed first in the horror manga!" and the artstyle changes to a semi-realistic manga was super funny -Junpei reaffirm he wants to be useful, that there's something he's able to do even if he doesn't have the Super Cool Shiny Evolution. It's nice the other kids don't mope or anything, they get on with it. -Unfortunately there's nothing around haha, but we get to the episode's namesake and… damn, that's really sad. The thought of any living thing just going somewhere knowing it's going to die is sad. -Old Man Angler freaks out when prompted about the Venus Rose. DUN DUN DUN. I then actually took a break here to get some snacks and a drink haha. Adds to the suspense!! -Holy crap this episode was a rollercoaster. Just the concept of a Trailmon graveyard was super sad, then we meet a Trailmon who's dying. The kids help him out with clever uses of their abilities and there's some wholesomeness as they take care of the Old Man Trail… THEN THE DEATH SCENE. Holy moly. Genuinely heartbreaking and scary to behold. -AND THEN -omg it was so funny -The kids so pissed off they go full Beast evolution haha -But then we finish off with the heading onwards with new, important info!! -Great episode. I want to say it was nice having a lighter-hearted episode after the Velgmon stuff, but honestly even half this episode was pretty heavy and dark. People love saying Tamers is the dark and edgy Digimon series but Frontier is honestly giving it a hard run for its money. -19 episodes left… can I knock them out in a single day?! I mean timewise sure but I dunno if I have the emotional energy to do that lol
32 - The Revealed Past! Duskmon's Secret -OOOOH JUICY TITLE -OOOOH JUICY EPISODE haha -feels like a lot happened this episode! -Cherubimon is becoming a more active agent in the story which is nice. With so many episodes still left though I'm wondering THINGS haha. Being a Digimon anime, Cherubimon probably isn't the ULTIMATE evil this series, but does that mean there's a greater evil that corrupted it? Maybe Ophanimon isn't as good as she seems? Or something else entirely!! Anyway I'm getting ahead of myself hehehe I'm just intrigued and excited -The rest of the gang once again decide sitting around doing nothing is useless so get off their butts -Also I love how Patamon flies--he's not a confident flyer yet and sometimes does the struggling little air-waddle-swim thing, it's cute and a nice touch. I mentioned in an earlier post about how cool a slice of life Digimon anime would be (set in the Digital World, Digimon characters only) and exploring how evolution affects youre growth and abilities in life would be really cool. I HAD TO STOP MYSELF from rambling about it. lol I should just write a rant/conceptual bible for the idea later -Duskmon directly confronts Koji with the truth which is nice. Feels like it gives him more actual involement in what's going on rather than just making Koji state the obvious or Cherubimon show up and force the truth out. Koichi want to confront this reality himself, for his own sake. (even if it is for "evil" reasons right now) -speaking of evil, HOLY CRAP. Did Koji's dad seriously tell Koji his mother was straight-up DEAD?! That's genuinely such a horrible, evil thing to do to a kid… This storyline is some Shakespearean shit haha. -Patamon's helpless Air Shots against Velgmon omg my sweet baby TT____TT -Takuya's little flashback was very sweet. -Takuya saves the day!! Or he saves Koji, at least. Nice to see the Double Spirits fight side by side finally! The Darkness Spirits are obtained. Koji's little Digicode Scan thing takes on so much more meaning suddenly haha. Koichi is finally free of Cherubimon's command… (I presume haha)
33 - The New Warrior of Darkness! Lowemon and KaiserLeomon -Intro is still the same. We still got Grottomon and the others in the BG near the end of the intro. Wonder if this'll ever change?? I don't mind if it doesn't but it's interesting since Duskmon is either gone or a good guy now and all the others are Digitama'd. -Some more background for Koichi. His mother works herself too hard, but refuses to take days off work sick because its inconvenient for others. GIRL PLEASE. Do NOT destroy yourself for work… -Nobody really knows how to approach the Koichi situation… I really appreciate how it turns out, though. Takuya goes to Koji with some thoughts and support and the others show up, and Koji accepts it and is gratefl for the help. FRIENDSHIP!! No drama, no anger, just an awkward situation thet friends help make better. YAY. -Koichi appears in the ad break cards!! AND A NEW DIGIMON!! -"Ladies and gentlemon we apologise for the delay but there is a giant fallen angel on the train tracks. Thank you for your patience." -BRUH why did you have to flick Old Man Angler away like that!! -Only darkness can destroy darkness. Koichi gets his Spirits back, but the "true" darkness, eh. Lowemon is all right but KaiserLeomon looks awesome. I love the shot of him running down Cherubimon's Lightning Spear. An armoured/mechanical lion running along a lightning bolt held by a fallen angel? Digimon's metal AF lol -It was just some kind of illusory Cherubimon. Fortunate. I was worried then the build up to this confrontation was gonna have a super weak ending for a moment haha phew. -Koichi: I am going alone. Everybody else: lolnope. Haha deal with it Koichi you're part of a Digimon team now.
34 - Battle at the Venus Rose! The Plan to Rescue Ophanimon -Honestly Venus Rose just sounds like either a ship name or a night club lol I just love the image of Cherubimon drinking cocktails, bored out of his mind, whilst waiting for the kids to finally show up -Things really do feel like the endgame here, but there's still so many episodes. I'm so curious where this is going. -Love Tomoki subtley mentioning maybe Koichi knows something about the data that Cherubimon is absorbing and Junpei's just like OH YEAH HEY KOJI ASK HIM FOR US WOULD YOU lol -omg and Takuya being like "um actually we're not going" lol there were some great little moments for the characters during this one -Cherubimon speaks to Ophanimon, offering her a place in his "new Digital World". Again, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. We got Seraphimon blasted into an egg the first time we saw him haha. -Koichi gets to show off his moves fighting the two Phantomon. -Cool spiral staircase during the start of the second half. Then everything goes all freaky and Escher-esque. -GOATMON!! I've only ever seen it in Ghost Game but I like Goatmon. But mainly 'cause I just like goats generally haha. The shading and lighting on the close-ups of its bell ringing were really pretty. -Goatmon is a pal! t's nice there are allies waiting even this far into the dark continent haha. -Basically they meet Ophanimon and get a massive infodump! No unwelcome though. Everything just spelled out clearly and the stuff we already knew reiterated. I'd actually forgotten about Lucemon… An angel Digimon with both human and beast like forms. HMM. -The episode continues to hit hard and fast until the very last moment. We end with Cherubimon confident his true plan has come to fruition!! …time for a break haha. -bruh. bruh. Bokomon is Lucemon isn't he?? AHAHAHAHHAHA…… ha…

Digiweek 2022 Day 7: How To Win Your Senpai In 10 Days Chapter 2
Happy Odaiba Day! I did all I could to get this update out just in time and I’m so happy to have succeeded! I hit a bit of a roadblock with part of this chapter but managed to push through it and get this up, so I hope you all enjoy!
Digimon has been such a big part of my life the past few years, and writing this story has been so new and fun from most of the usual Jyoumi fare I write!
I hope you all enjoy!

Chapter description:  Mimi Tachikawa is ready to celebrate her homecoming with her friends and the boy she has been waiting to see for so long. Joe Kido is so happy to see his best friend finally come back to Japan for good. But as they reunite, old feelings light a spark that Mimi wants to accept head on, and one Joe Kido has to struggle with now after so many years.
---
“How does it look? Do you think it looks ok?” Joe asked Matt and Sora as the trio of them lingered towards the back of the large group they had. Both groups of DigiDestined had come to the airport to see the grand return of one of their own, and they hadn’t half-assed it, either. Tai, Davis, and Yolei all saw fit to create a big sign that had Mimi’s name on it, that Davis and Yolei were currently carrying as they headed the veritable parade of teenagers that were headed for the baggage claim.
“Ugh, I can’t get this stupid tie to look right for some reason…” he grumbled, shaking his head as his hands fumbled with the knot, untying it once again and attempting to retie it just as quickly.
“It’s just the airport, anyways,” Matt said, unable to help but snicker as he looked at his friend. All dressed nice with his school uniform’s jacket and a nice pair of pants, he stuck out like a sore thumb compared to everyone else, all in casual, springtime clothes.
“Well, still, I wanted to look nice. Mimi’s coming back home and it’s a big deal!” he argued. Sora leaned forward to look at Joe, offering him a smile.
“It’s nice that you wanted to do that, though, Joe,” she told him. “Do you need any help with the tie?”
Joe shook his head and bit down on his lip, fingers working quickly to tie his tie yet again.
“No… I think I… got it…” he said as he straightened his tie, “How do I look?”
“Like a guy who’s trying to look really nice despite how much he says there’s nothing going on between him and the girl who’s coming back to Japan,” Matt said bluntly, pausing for a beat before continuing, “And who has a girlfriend.”
Before Matt could continue, Sora responded with a sharp elbow to the ribs, causing the boy to wince in pain, though that didn’t deter the grin on his face when he saw that Joe was beet red.
“M-Matt!” he hissed quietly, gritting his teeth as he shot the blonde a glare, “I’ve told you, it isn’t like that! I-I just want to look decent! It makes a good impression!”
“A good impression on people who already know him?” Matt asked with a quirked eyebrow, unable to help but smirk.
“Matt,” Sora said, a clear warning with the tone of her voice brokering no argument.
“There’s nothing there, Matt,” Joe said simply, looking away from the two. Sora shot a look at Matt and shook her head, arms folded. Matt shrugged his shoulders then shoved his hands in his pockets.
Sora, meanwhile, placed a gentle hand on Joe’s shoulder, “It’s ok, Joe. Matt’s just messing around. Not at the best time, granted,” she said, pausing for a moment to shoot another look at Matt, who ducked his head and looked straight ahead, “But let’s just focus on the fact that Mimi’s back, yeah?”
Joe nodded slowly, “Yeah,” he said, unable to help but smile at the reminder that pretty soon he’d be seeing his best friend again— one of his favorite people imaginable— and he wouldn’t have to worry about her leaving again.
“Ok, Davis, Yolei, we’re starting this welcome back party right! Let’s get that sign up!” Tai said, clapping his hands together, at which Yolei and Davis held it up. Plenty of people who were arriving looked over in confusion at the commotion coming from the big group of teenagers and their sign with “MIMI TACHIKAWA” written in bright pink letters, though the group of them didn’t care, all just too excited to see their friend again.
“Oh my god, I can’t wait to see Mimi again. I just know even coming off a plane she’s going to look perfect,” Yolei gushed, starry-eyed at the very thought of seeing her senior again.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you this excited in a while,” Cody mused, eliciting a chuckle from Ken and an eye roll from Yolei.
“Hey, I don’t blame her. It’s been a long time since we saw her,” TK said.
“And we barely got to see her last time, too,” Kari frowned.
Joe, Matt, and Sora finally reached the back of the group, Joe’s gaze meeting the back of the sign, with the ink bleeding through faintly.
Mimi really was coming back. The thought brought a smile to his face, but even the warmth of the knowledge that his best friend would be back soon didn’t take away the nerves he had been feeling. Sure, the two of them had talked pretty often, and sure, she had come back to Odaiba recently, but he had been so busy getting things figured out with his college entrance exams, and then there was everything with Armageddemon…
“Where is she? Where is she!? Her flight isn’t going to be late, is it?” Yolei whined.
“Don’t worry, Yolei, I’m sure she’ll show up soon enough,” Ken assured her with a gentle smile. Sora took a step forward.
Izzy craned his neck to look over at the arrivals schedule, “It looks like her flight should have just landed, Yolei. She should be coming out pretty soon, I’m sure.”
Yolei let out a sigh of relief, but that only left Joe feeling more stressed. How was that even possible!? It was just Mimi, there was no pressure at all!
“Ok, DigiDestined!” Tai’s voice boomed out as he clapped his hands together. All sets of eyes from the group— and a fair few from passersby— instantly turned to the gogglehead. “Mimi will probably be out any minute now, and we’re going to give her the welcome home she deserves! As soon as we see her, everyone shout ‘Welcome Home!’ as loud as you can!”
The young man looked pleased with himself, placing his hands on his hips as a proud smile spread across his face.
But, he had to admit, looking at it all… it really was a welcome home celebration fitting for Mimi.
Five minutes of waiting and the Digidestined were waiting with bated breath as scattered groups of people poured into the baggage claim.
Five minutes turned into ten, and the wait started to feel unbearable. Had he been sitting down, Joe knew his leg would’ve been bouncing like mad, and the fact that he wasn’t fidgeting now was confusing even to him.
“Hey, Izzy, are you sure it said her plane got here?” Yolei asked, looking over her shoulder at him.
“I’m sure it’s just taking a bit for them to get off the plane and get here,” Sora said gently, offering Yolei a warm smile.
“Well I hope she gets here soon, we have a whole afternoon planned!” Tai said.
“I’m sure Mimi doesn’t want to spend longer on the plane than she has to after how long her flight was,” Matt reasoned.
It wasn’t long after that a whole new group of recently arrived people started to pour into the area.
Looks of elation crossed all of their faces, except for Joe, who stood there, waiting for Mimi in anxious anticipation. When he finally saw her, though, just a few feet ahead of her parents, his eyes instantly lit up, and a grin made its way on his face instantly.
To his left, Matt was grinning to himself at the sight.
“Ok guys, on three,” Tai said, “One… two… three!”
“WELCOME HOME!” the group shouted. Most of the people in the terminal were in shock by the sudden celebration, but once Mimi saw the sign, her eyes were wide and she instantly ran towards her friends, maneuvering her way through the crowd as best as she could.
“You guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys!” she cried out, tears now welling up in her eyes.
“Mimiiiii! Oh it’s so great to see you!” Yolei said, as her senior pulled her and Davis into a tight hug.
“It’s so great to see you both, too!”
Both Yolei and Davis were moon-eyed, and in no time the rest of the group had started to swarm her. Joe hung back for just a moment, his throat tight at the sight of her.
She had gone back to her natural hair color, a soft brown that was up in a messy bun. She was wearing a white tank top with a light pink jacket and simple, light blue jeans. Even when she was dressed down for a plane ride, she still managed to be fashionable effortlessly. He’d seen plenty of pictures of her, sure, but having her here in person, after only being able to see her for such a brief amount of time when she was last here…
Joe let himself stay back as Mimi was greeted by everyone, getting into quick little conversations and doling out hugs like there was no tomorrow. He was just happy to see her, honestly, and didn’t mind waiting a bit while she talked with everyone else.
Mimi had other plans, though, and as soon as she pulled away from a hug with Tai and Kari, she rushed right over to Joe, looking up at him with the most dazzling smile of hers he had ever seen.
“Joe! Oh it’s so good to see you!”
She wrapped her arms around him and pulled herself close, and Joe couldn’t stop the deep crimson flush that flooded his face. His eyes darted down to Mimi, then to the group, who were all staring at the two of them, which only left Joe’s face burning up harder than before.
Tai and Davis both held wide, conspiratorial grins on their faces. Yolei’s hands were clasped together and resting against her cheek, as she stared at them with nothing less than awe. Sora, Izzy, TK, Kari, Cody, and Ken all held kind smiles, while Matt shot Joe an exaggerated wink.
He loved his friends, but oh god were their reactions making this situation feel awkward when it shouldn’t have been at all. He offered the group an awkward smile, before he looked down at Mimi and hugged her back.
“It’s so good to see you, too, Mimi,” he said softly to her. It had been so long since he’d seen her, since they’d been so close, and suddenly it felt like all of Joe’s stresses had washed away. School, exams, all the nerves that had built up as he waited to have this reunion with his best friend, it was all gone, now replaced by a warmth that spread throughout his chest and caused his normally tightly-wound self to loosen up.
When they finally broke the hug, Mimi immediately started to dig through her bag.
“Hold on! I have a gift!” she said, her voice bright and excitable.
Joe let out a laugh of disbelief, “What? Mimi, you didn’t need to get me anything,” he told her.
“But I wanted to!” she chirped, digging through what Joe could’ve only figured was an endless pit of her things she wanted and needed for the flight out. He angled his neck to try and see what she might have been looking for.
“Finally!” she whisper shouted to herself before first pulling out a small bag of chocolate and dropping it in his hands. He blinked.
“Chocolate? Thanks, Mimi, this is great,” he beamed, “It’s going to make a great study snack.”
Mimi returned a bright smile in kind, “That’s not all!”
Joe blinked again.
“Hm?”
“Aww man, I want chocolate, too…” Davis mumbled in the background, before he was loudly shushed by Tai.
In the brief moment that Joe’s attention went from Mimi to Davis and back, she was already holding a small box in her hands.
A light shade of pink tinged Joe’s ears as he took the box from her and opened it up, which merely caused that shade of pink to darken.
“M-Mimi!”
Inside the box was a slate grey bow tie. Joe’s jaw dropped as he reached down to feel the material.
“Do you like it…?” she asked slowly, looking up at him, brow furrowed as she waited for his answer with bated breath.
“This is incredible,” he breathed out.
“…Yeah?” Mimi asked quietly, still tight with nerves. Joe nodded eagerly.
“Yeah, it’s great. I’d put it on right now if I didn’t already have a tie on,” he told her with a warm smile. “You didn’t have to do this for me, though.”
Mimi shook her head, “I wanted to, though! I found this little place in Brooklyn that hand makes all their things!” she chirped happily. Joe couldn’t help but smile as he ran his thumb gently over the bow tie again before he closed the box. “As soon as I saw it, I thought of you! The color is just like your crest, and I figured it would be just your style.”
Joe’s eyes went wide as he suddenly felt heat scratch at his face, the tips of his ears going pink. He ducked his head as that heat threatened to overtake him completely, unable to help but feel flustered from the fact that all of their friends were witnessing this from just a few feet away.
“Y-You did…?” he asked with wide eyes.
At this point, though Joe wasn’t paying too close attention, a soft flush crept its way onto Mimi’s cheeks, “Yeah, it was just…” she trailed off for a moment, “Just a little something I wanted you to have,” she added simply, before she clasped her hands behind her back and gave him another bright smile. Joe closed the box and set it in his pocket as gently as he could.
“W-Well thanks, Meems. I’m going to wear this a bunch, I already know it,” Joe smiled, the rosy color that had settled on his face now starting to slowly fade. Mimi couldn’t help but preen, that smile shining even brighter as the two fell silent. Not long after, Tai quickly stepped forward.
“You have candy for the rest of us, right Mimi?” Tai asked teasingly, and Mimi laughed gently.
“Oh, don’t you worry! I brought enough for everyone!” she assured him with a gentle pat on the arm, “I just wanted to give Joe his gifts first.”
The smile on Tai’s face left Joe’s chest tight, and he offered a strained one back.
“By the way, we were thinking of treating you to lunch to continue your big welcome back celebration, you up for it?” he asked.
“Definitely! I just need to let my parents know real quick,” she said.
“You’re sure you won’t be too tired, Mimi?” Joe asked, “You were on an incredibly long flight and your body thinks it's in a timezone that’s halfway across the world!”
Mimi shrugged off his concern and flashed him a smile, “I’ll be fine! I can sleep later! Plus, I’m finally back after so long! You don’t really want me to go home while you’re all going to go out and have some fun, are you?” she asked. Joe rapidly shook his head.
“N-No, of course not!” the words tumbled from his lips quickly.
“Then it’s settled! Let’s keep this celebration going!” she cheered. From behind, everyone smiled at the confirmation, and Davis, Yolei, Matt, and TK all let out a cheer in response.
***
Getting a group of twelve teenagers to settle on a place to eat would’ve normally been a trial, but Mimi’s suggestion of barbecue as something simple and easy, where they could all be close together and talk while at the grills while they cooked their own food would be fun.
Joe had attempted to sit off to the side, but as soon as they were all scrambling for chairs, Mimi had grabbed onto his arm and yanked him along to sit in the middle, next to her. Yolei had instantly rushed to sit on Mimi’s other side, while Sora and Matt sat next to Joe. Tai sat down on one end of the table, next to Sora, while Izzy sat next to him. On the other end next to Yolei was Cody, with Davis and Ken next to him. Directly across from Mimi were Kari and TK.
While it definitely was chaotic to have all of them in one place, talking, laughing, and joking around, Joe was glad to have taken the day off from his school work and academic worries. Not only had it been a while since he was last able to spend real time with everyone, but considering the occasion, there was no way he could miss this.
There was no way he could— there was no way he would miss his best friend coming back to Japan. His hand slipped into his pocket, and he loosely held the small box in his hand, unable to help but smile to himself. He watched quietly as Mimi handed out candy to everyone else. It was some American candy with chocolate and peanut butter that he never had before and told Mimi he would try after dinner tonight.
“Oh man! Mimi, this is so good!” Davis said with a beaming smile on his face. He took a moment to lick a bit of melted chocolate off his thumb, then let out a content sigh.
“I’m pretty jealous that you could just get this whenever,” TK said before popping the last bit of his in his mouth.
“Thank you very much, Mimi,” Cody smiled.
“Yeah, thank you!” Kari added.
Izzy took a drink from his bottle of tea and then nodded, “I can only imagine what other kinds of candy you must have been able to have.”
As Joe took a brief moment to look at Mimi, it was easy to tell just how ecstatic she was just not from everyone’s reactions about the candy she had given everyone, but also just being back home. Joe couldn’t help but smile, too, which, as Mimi looked around at their friends and caught Joe’s smile, her own grew.
The two’s eyes met, which must have seemed to any of their friends to last a few moments too long, but also felt far too short. Mimi opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, a waitress placed a plate of meat down on the table with a loud clatter, causing the both of them to just about jump from their seats. Mimi took one last, brief look at Joe before she turned her attention to the food which was starting to arrive at the table en masse.
“Oh, this looks great!” Mimi chirped, and Joe couldn’t help but smile at her excitement. As Joe looked around the table to see all of their friends start to cook their food, and once he looked over at Tai, Matt, and Sora, he saw the former two start to grin at him. Joe’s expression almost immediately started to falter, and once Sora noticed, she shot the two boys a withering look. They instantly focused on the grill, wasting no time in starting to cook their food.
“Sorry,” Sora mouthed to Joe, who shook his head immediately. He offered her an appreciative, if tight, smile before he too went to focus on his food.
The meal had gone peacefully, and Joe primarily remained quiet, more than content to listen to his friends talk while he enjoyed his food. The younger Digidestined were talking about their adventures in junior high school, while the older kids were lamenting how little they were looking forward to school starting back up again.
“Well, at least now we have Mimi going to school with us,” Izzy said as he peered down at the piece of beef that was sizzling on the grill, giving it a quick once over before flipping it over to let it cook more.
Although Joe kept his smile up, he couldn’t help but feel sad. Another reminder that his friends were so far away. While he was fretting over intense coursework and getting ready for university, all of his friends were going to be enjoying their high school years right by each other. And once school started up again? How many chances would he have to see everyone before he was deep in the throes of studying?
As he picked up another piece of meat from the grill, he quietly mulled on those thoughts. While he was quietly focused on his plans to be attending University of Tokyo’s pre-med program next year, Mimi set down her chopsticks and clapped her hands together, quickly gathering everyone’s attention.
“So I know it’s short notice, but I was thinking since we still have a few days until school starts back again, I was thinking… what if we had a picnic!”
Joe couldn’t help his smile. It was almost like she read his mind and knew how much he wanted to try and spend as much time as he could with everyone before he’d be too busy to even think about unwinding.
“That’s a great idea!” Sora said, and the rest of the Digidestined followed in a chorus of agreement.
“Awesome! I can make a bunch of food, and maybe we can meet at Odaiba Seaside Park?” Mimi suggested.
“Nuh uh, no way,” Yolei spoke up, causing Mimi to blink in surprise, “You just got back! Let us handle the picnic feast!” she grinned, “I’ll bring a bunch of stuff from my parents’ store!”
Mimi’s eyes sparkled, “I really don’t mind cooking, but… would you mind bringing me a tuna mayo onigiri…?” she asked. A triumphant grin was glued to Yolei’s face.
“I’ll bring as many as you want!”
It almost seemed like Mimi was going to sob tears from joy, “Oh, I love you so much Yolei,” she breathed out. Her words caused Yolei’s bright smile to turn into a smaller, goofy one, her cheeks going flush, and she rubbed the back of her neck.
“Anything for you, Mimi,” she said.
“Well, can I at least make some dessert for everyone, then? I’m sure we’ll have something at home that I can make!” Mimi said.
“Well if you’re sure, I don’t think any of us would turn down anything you’d make,” TK said, to which came another round of agreement.
As the group started to fall into excited talk about the new plans for tomorrow, Mimi turned to look up at Joe.
“You’ll be there too, right?” she asked, voice hopeful. Joe nodded immediately.
“Of course.”
The way Mimi smiled left Joe smiling, too, and for the rest of their time at the barbecue restaurant, the mood was bright, and even Joe, for all his worrying and anxiety, was just as bright and sunny as Mimi.
***
As the sun started to dip into the horizon, the group had opted to split up for the day, everyone still in high spirits both from Mimi’s arrival home and for their plans for a continued celebration of her homecoming.
“Are you sure you don’t need to go back home now?”
“I’m sure, yeah. Plus I don’t want you to walk back home on your own.”
“Thanks.”
The two had made their way back to Mimi’s apartment complex— the same one she lived in originally— and had remained mostly quiet along the way. The mere presence of the other was enough for them, and they simply enjoyed walking together. Mimi was happy to enjoy the little ways Odaiba had changed and stayed the same, the beautiful flowers they passed by from various gardens, and the beautiful sunset they were privy to.
“I’m really glad you were able to make it today,” Mimi said simply as the two rounded a corner onto another street.
“I told you I wouldn’t miss it for anything, right?” he said. Even if he had some studying to catch up on tonight, he’d gladly deal with that if it meant he got to be there to see his best friend come home.
Come home.
It was another reminder that she really was back, not just for a week, but until she might ever decide to leave again.
“I know, it’s just…” she trailed off, and as Joe looked at her, he tilted his head slightly as he saw she ducked her head.
“…I was just really happy to have you there,” she said with a shy smile.
“Well, I was really happy when you told me you were coming back,” he said, pausing for a moment, “I’m really glad you’re back.”
“I’m glad to be back,” she said softly.
The two fell into silence again, Mimi trying to will her blush away while Joe was looking ahead at the sunset ahead of them again.
A few moments later Mimi brought the back of her hand to her cheeks, relieved that it no longer felt so warm, she spoke.
“I’m not gonna lie… I was really surprised to see you cut your hair!” she said.
“You’re not the only one,” he said, pausing for a beat, “Well— not that you cut your hair, but it’s not pink anymore!” he said.
“I wanted to keep it, but knowing how much stricter school would be here, I thought it would be easier to just go back to being brunette,” she said.
“It still looks good, though, you don’t have to worry about that… even if I will miss being able to pick you out of a crowd at any time,” he laughed.
A look of mock offense came on Mimi’s face and she stopped in her tracks, placing her hands on her hips.
“You wouldn’t be able to find me in a crowd just because I don’t have pink hair now!?”
Joe let out a louder laugh, “Well, I’d like to hope I can, so please don’t get too mad if I don’t…?” he asked.
Mimi turned her nose to the sky, “Hmph!” Just a moment after, though, Mimi burst into laughter, and Joe did too, garnering a few looks from people across the street. Nothing mattered to the two teens aside from each other’s company, though, and though it took a bit for the two to calm down, they eventually continued on their way with bright smiles.
“I won’t lie, I do miss your long hair,” she said.
“Ah, yeah, it was getting a little too long to manage. And my dad thought it would be better if I went back to short hair,” he shrugged. Mimi frowned.
“Aww… well, maybe one day? It would be a shame if you never even grew it out a little bit again,” she said. Joe nodded.
“Hopefully, yeah.”
As they approached a small playground right next to Mimi’s apartment building, she stopped and reached over to gently tug on Joe’s wrist.
“Hey… do you mind if we hang out here for a bit? I just want to… talk for a little bit.”
Joe’s brow furrowed slightly as he looked down at Mimi, trying to gauge if anything was wrong with her. However, nothing seemed wrong if the expression on her face was anything to go by, and he gladly allowed himself to be dragged off to the playground. Mimi sat down on one of the swings and started to gently swing back and forth. Joe sat down next to her, hands resting in his lap as he looked over to his best friend. He waited for her to say something, but she seemed to be deep in thought, staring at the ground. Joe stayed quiet, not wanting to stir her from her thoughts.
“So, ever since I found out we were coming back to Odaiba, there’s something I’ve wanted to tell you.
Joe blinked in surprise, and his eyes were laser focused on her.
He suddenly felt his heart beating— pounding— in his ears, and his breath was still, chest tight.
“She just wants to say how happy she is that she’s back. That she’s happy we can hang out again after so long. That’s all.”
And suddenly, the guilt he felt over not bringing up his girlfriend to Mimi crashed over him like a tidal wave. It wasn’t like he was trying to hide his girlfriend from anyone but Matt and Sora, but with how busy he was and how little he’d had a chance to see anyone, it just never came up.
Considering the few times he and Mimi had talked since then, it was mostly to catch up about how she was, or her checking in to make sure he was taking care of himself and not studying himself to exhaustion.
Anything like… like that… it was so long ago. There was no way she felt the same. She had spent years in America. There was no way…
“Do you remember when we had to go fight the Dark Masters? And I was… so sick of fighting and losing our friends and I just couldn’t do it anymore? And you stayed with me?”
His breath caught in his throat, and although he opened his mouth, wanting to say something, anything to try and get ahead of this, it felt like it was full of cotton, and he was almost too numb, too focused on her, to say anything.
Instead, he slowly nodded.
“We were already friends, but I just… thought you were so wonderful. Being there and supporting me. I was so scared and I didn’t want anything to happen to Palmon, but you were and Gomamon were so brave,” she said, letting out a wistful sigh after, “And things with us felt kind of… different.”
Mimi’s voice was a whisper, and even though there was no one else around, it was as if she wanted to make sure only Joe would hear her. She was shyer than he had ever seen her, and it was absolutely unlike what Joe had heard or seen from her before.
“You knew that too, right?” she asked, turning to look at him. She had been swaying gently back and forth on the swing, but finally stopped, one last creak of the metal chains ringing out around them.
“Y-Yeah…”
Fleeting moments way back when, glances that lasted too long, the way he would feel swarms of butterflies in his stomach when she would grab his hand to drag him along somewhere with the others. The way he had given her that valentine after their trip to the Digital World, which had remained an unspoken secret between the two of them after all of this time. Something he wanted to talk to her about until she tearfully revealed to the group that she would be moving.
At that point, though all of those same feelings stayed, they didn’t talk about it. Instead it was sad smiles and heartache for him, and though he wasn’t entirely sure, it seemed like it was that way for her, too.
Knowing that anytime he would see her after that would be just fleeting moments hurt, and it was easy to see on her face just how much her feelings must have mirrored her own.
Tears started to prick at the corners of her eyes, and Mimi immediately blinked them away to try and head off any crying, but it didn’t work. Instead her eyes started to water and she took a deep breath to try and calm herself— to no avail.
“Joe… you mean… so much to me. You’re my best friend, but for so long, even when I was in New York… you were always so much more than that.”
“Mimi…” he breathed out.
This was… this was something he thought about for so long, but had always remained hesitant on ever bringing up while she was so far away. The distance hurt, and he wasn’t sure if he would’ve been able to handle that.
Maybe it was cowardice. Too afraid to bring up his crush to her in the saddest of times, and too afraid to feel the sting of a long distance relationship, where they’d have so few chances to talk and even fewer to hold each other and spend time together like a normal couple their age.
Now he had a girlfriend, having assumed that any feelings she had were long gone, and his brain was screaming. Screaming for her to stop and not continue with where he knew she was going, and screaming at himself for having not told her sooner.
Joe sat there still and short of breath as Mimi was mustering up the strength to say those next words that Joe had wanted to hear for so long, but knew now more than ever that he couldn’t.
“I like— no— I love you, Joe. I… I really do. And you have no idea how happy I am to finally be able to tell you! To be back home and to have this chance to have us!”
Joe stared at her in quiet amazement, seeing the tears start to spill down her cheeks. What he wouldn’t have given to be able to wipe them from her cheeks and hold her. To tell her that he felt the same and had for all this time, even with half the globe separating them.
Mimi’s hand lay against her heart as she looked at him, “Joe. I… I want nothing more than to be your girlfriend. To have you as my boyfriend.”
She started to smile, a wide one that left Joe’s heart pounding. Seeing Mimi smile, and because of this, should’ve been the best thing for Joe Kido.
And in a way it was, but it just as much broke his heart right down the middle. A brief image flashed through his mind of what he would have done had he not had a girlfriend, and all he could see was him picking Mimi up and spinning, letting her laughter fill the air as they celebrated their new relationship.
As much as that mental image warmed his heart, it left his stomach turning, feeling as though that thought alone left him betraying his girlfriend. At that point he looked down, unable to stop himself from tearing up, too. Mimi’s elation faded near instantly when he did, and she leaned down to try and get a better look at his face, concern clear on hers.
“Joe…?” she asked quietly. He took in a deep, ragged breath and swallowed hard before he spoke.
“Mimi, I… I have a girlfriend…” he told her slowly. She deserved better than this, to be told during what he could only now imagine was something she had been waiting to tell him since she found out she'd be moving back. He couldn’t look at her, because he knew he wouldn’t be able to handle the sight of her face.
Mimi said nothing.
Joe clasped his hands together, resting his forehead against them.
“I’m… sorry. I’m really sorry, Mimi.”
Sorry that he hurt her like this.
And sorry that things couldn’t be different for the two of them.
“I think I’m going to go home. My parents are probably waiting for me.”
Her voice was tight, and as he finally turned to look at her, she was already standing. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she seemed moments away from breaking down into sobs.
“Let me walk you back,” he said, slowly pushing himself up.
“It’s just right over there, I’ll be fine, Joe,” she told him, offering him a tight, awkward smile.
“…Please? It would just… help me feel a lot better if I knew you got back safely.
Mimi turned her head away from him to wipe her eyes with the back of her hand, then looked up at him again.
“…Ok. Thank you,” she said quietly.
The walk to the front of her apartment building felt agonizingly long, the awkward silence lingering over them like a thick fog. Joe wasn’t sure if Mimi wanted to say anything, but he wanted to just… apologize. Over and over again. For hurting her like this. But he didn’t have the strength to do so. Once they reached the door they stopped, and Mimi turned to face him. Joe took a deep breath.
“Mimi…”
“I’m sorry.”
“Can we still be friends? You’re my best friend… you always will be,” he said.
Mimi was quiet for a few moments, but then slowly nodded.
“Of course. You’ll… you’ll always be my best friend, too…” she trailed off, glancing over to the door. Joe felt like he just made it worse. But he just needed Mimi to know that she would always be his best friend.
“I’ll see you tomorrow…?” he asked.
Mimi offered him another tight smile.
“Yeah, see you tomorrow, Joe.”
Without any other words between the two, Mimi quickly walked into the building, speeding towards the elevator as quickly as she could. Joe was able to catch just one quick look at her as she pushed the door open and went in, seeing more tears start to spill down her cheeks. Joe’s shoulders slumped and he turned to make his way back home.
He had been so excited to see Mimi… she had been so excited to see him. And now he hurt her so badly when he never wanted to do anything like that. Years ago he made sure she was safe in the Digital World, and now…
All he could hope was that tomorrow they could try and move past this and still be the friends they had been for so long.
