I'm here for a blind date I'm genderfluid (afab if you're wondering. I apparently give off Boy Vibes™)

I love dinosaurs (some of my favorites include Archaeopteryx, Australovenator, and Baryonyx, Minmi, Oviraptor, and Yi qi) comic books (mostly Suicide Squad but you already know that by now), and I'm trying to get into cars because I want to be an automechanic, since my grades weren't good enough for paleontology and I suck at art. College wasn't right for me and being an automechanic is probably like... A trade school thing, right? I also like Transformers. I got a mullet at one point, but it grew out a bit lol. I'm kinda clumsy, which is pretty evident since my glasses keep breaking lol. Not like I can afford new ones so I guess I'm using duck tape and super glue to keep the frames in... 2 pieces I guess. I guess it's just duck tape keeping the ear things on. I really got into old monster movies in Middle School because of a book called the encyclopedia of monsters. From like... The really old ones like The Blob That Ate Everything to the ones from to the slightly more recent ones but they're still decades old, like the Alien Franchise. Not too big of a fan of regular (?) horror movies. Technically I haven't seen most of the alien movies, but I really liked Alien VS Predator so I think that counts enough. I know I've already told you this but I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole of wilderness survival and eventually wound up finding a channel about boomerangs and the occasional Australian wildlife video (there's one titled Kangaroo Maggots. He finds a kangaroo corpse at the side of the road and maggots are inside of it. Really fucking gross. 0/10. Do not recommend if you hate maggots. Don't know why I watched that specific video honestly, but all the rest are good). Which lead me to another channel about Australian animals. I'm American and idk how tf I got from how to cook a cactus to watching a video on dingoes. I play a lot of simulator games. Like... If you look at my steam library it's like... 99% simulator games, the Batman: Arkham Series, and then a hunting game for some reason. And even then I think that's a hunting simulator come to think about it. Don't know why I like Simulator Games, I just do. Wait... Does the Arkham series count as simulator games? Like... Are they technically Batman simulators. I love reptiles and rats, but I fucking hate spiders. Need an Australian Man™ to help me if a spider is near lol. You know wow I'm talking about here I tend to get overexcited when myself or others are talking about stuff I'm interested in. I go on long tangents about stuff I like. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to my semi-niche interests. I do enjoy listening to people go on their own tangents about things they like too though.

It's also quite apparent I have a thing for weird and/or disgusting fictional men ( my taste in women is better I swear. (Will fall for any tall woman who even looks in my direction. Which isn't saying much cuz I'm 4'10¾") )

The moment you sit down at your table, after being rushed over by the waitstaff, you're met with a wide and mischievous grin, a signature smile from a man you recognise.

"I go by many names. Captain Boomerang, George, Digger. But you can call me daddy, if you like."

You screw your face up a bit, trying to pretend like that line didn't get you, and he's quick to try and win you over.

"I'm joking, love! Lighten up, it's a blind date, it's supposed to be fun!"

At least he's quick to... not apologise for his jokes, but to try and recover from them. And he's also surprisingly interested in you, and in getting to know you. Although, you fear it's just so he can make more risque jokes.

"Ah, mechanics. So... you're good with your hands then? You wear one of them little overall things? With anything underneath?"

The loud laugh he lets out at the end of his remarks are so endearing though, they make his lewd comments almost charming. Which you're unsurprised by, given your specific taste in men. He's perfectly strange and definitely a little bit gross, just how you like them.

He comments on your glasses, mentioning that you seem like someone who is a creative problem solver. A comment that feels like a proper compliment, not just a segue into another flirtatious remark. And it feels like he's dialing down on that the more he gets to know you. he talks to you about horror films for twenty minutes without saying anything lewd or crude. It's almost like it's a defense mechanism he uses to keep a distance, to maintain his facade.

In fact, he barely says anything at all when you're telling him about your preference for classic horror, and what video games you're interested in. Almost like he's enjoying learning about you. Almost like he can forego his usual ridiculously brazen behaviour around you. And you're more than happy to return the favour when he gets excited about boomerangs. Your fault for mentioning them.

"Yeah, you can learn a lot from a video online about surviving in the outback, but if you're ever looking for private tutoring, I'm your man."

He winks with this statement, but you can tell there's sincerity behind the offer. The fact that you're willing to listen politely, and that you seem interested in him when he's talking about subjects that are so personal to him, makes him feel very at home around you. And you're warming up to him, to the point where you can make some jokes too. I mean, no harm in joking about inviting him round to your place to get rid of some scary spiders, since he's Australian Outback Extroardinaire.

"Listen, for you, I can let myself be more of a hero than anti-hero for a change. Show me the little buggers and I'll have your house spider free in no time."

He winks again, and you're so fond of it that you can't help but imagine a life of being winked at across tables. A strange, happily ever after.

In response to tiktok user: thegirlwithglasses.0 posing the question: Why doesn't Colin want to be with Penelope yet, especially given their shared interests? The show does not answer this explicitly (yet) but there is a subtext to why. My understanding of it is informed by the show as is, but I should say also RMB inherently. They were clearly using the book as source material for their themes when starting to incorporate them into S2. Colin is currently happy being friends with Penelope, but does not yet want to be with her romantically simply because both he and Penelope are not where they need to be as individuals in order for him to fall in love with her completely and consciously. They see and understand each other better than most do, which is why they are great friends, but still only at a 90%. That last 10% is the most crucial. The reason they are not at a 100, I believe, has to do with self-knowledge, confidence, and ultimately authenticity, which I will elaborate on below with some character psycho-analysis.

Colin has a natural confidence as he is very outgoing and charismatic, but he doesn’t know who he is and what he values above all. What he does know and/or cannot acknowledge is what he is insecure about. Travel writing for Colin is something I am hoping and assuming they keep from the book. He thought he cared about travel, geography, culture etc. most, but it would turn out to be what he has to say about it all and the joy in finding just the right words to describe something he sees/experiences so someone else can experience that as well. Penelope as LW is distinguished as a gossip columnist not just for what she writes, but how she writes it too. She can appreciate good writing and vivid descriptions. For his family though, they don't find it as interesting and/or can't relate; that leads to his insecurity and hinders his confidence/self-discovery more. Colin still can’t appreciate how much writing meant to him let alone Penelope-- the person he is writing to.

He is confident when things come more easily to him: being social, funny, charming, etc. He gets social validation from that as well. In S1 he tries to be a flirt, fall in "love" and get married, because he thinks that alone will get him what he wants. He is a romantic and overeager, but Marina "takes him seriously" so she seems the perfect fit for him. Meanwhile, Pen is like... what about your other interests? I thought you wanted to travel first? Then in S2, that wasn't "enough" for him nor for anyone else to take him seriously. Penelope is a source of validation for what he truly values, but she alone cannot outweigh family and societal approval. Yet at the same time just being a flirt/charmer is not enough for him because he is not being taken seriously. I believe this is why he's the least rakish of the 3 brothers.

He comes home, stops flirting with women (mostly...), and starts trying typical bachelor gentleman pursuits like business investments and drinking a lot, both things he is not a natural at and which I think he did not find fulfilling. What he did find fulfilling was being a hero by using his geographical knowledge to outsmart a conman and help Penelope. Unfortunately, it wasn't fulfilling enough for him to self-actualize and stop overly seeking peer validation. He also gets to be his more "geeky" (to quote Luke Newton) self around Sir Phillip which is nice to see until Marina pointedly does not find it amusing or validate him. Again, someone else does not get him, his travel stories, interests, or puns. (I'm convinced though if Penelope were there she not only would have laughed at the olive joke, but would've kept the puns rolling and Marina would be even more 👀 wow Colin you're blind).

Colin's biggest problem is not having a full understanding of which aspects of his personality and interests he values the most--potentially in spite of what he thinks the rest of the ton values. Only then will he discover a sense of purpose. After that, he will find the self-confidence to go after it. He already has a solid base of confidence, honor, and bravery within him, he just needs one or two key ingredients to motivate him. The S2 finale exemplifies his potential (not counting his last scene because obviously he still needs to grow).

Narratively, Penelope and Colin are both mirrors and foils for each other (lol mirror I know but I'm dead serious about this). The best fictional relationships have this dynamic in my opinion. People say that "opposites attract," but that's only on the surface. In reality, couples work when they complement each other more like yin and yang, which is the dynamic Colin and Penelope very obviously have.

By all outward impressions, Colin is the extrovert. He is outgoing, popular, and charming. Penelope is much more introverted. She is shy, socially awkward in casual conversation, and "unfashionable" (out of her control though at first). At their cores, they are both witty, inciteful, and kind. They have similar interests, senses of humor, and a talented way with words. They also value being selflessly honorable and truthful. In contrast to Colin being charming enough to make everyone like him or laugh when he tells a joke, Penelope has a tendency to bluntly tell it like it is which many people find off-putting. Colin, however, finds this refreshing and amusing. He is similarly observant and appreciates her honesty. Additionally, I get the sense that another reason people don't bother getting to know Penelope could also have to do with what they know about her ridiculous family, so they underestimate her. People do not "take her seriously." She has the same unmet need as Colin, but for opposite reasons.

To further explore relevant narrative arcs, Penelope is at a point where her strengths and weaknesses are opposite to Colin's. She knows who she is and what she wants out of life (hence why she knows she likes Colin romantically), but she lacks the confidence to publicly be her authentic self. Lady Whistledown makes this obvious to us, but it's deeper than that because there is also the speech she gives about purpose. I suspect she has a much better idea of her purpose than she lets on. She needs to realize she already is internally brave and witty, but what she doesn't have yet is a true, equal partner, the familial love she craves, nor the freedom to do what she wants or be herself.

Her obstacles are more external in contrast to Colin, because of her mother, the clothes she has to wear, and not having due appreciation from society. Whistledown is Penelope's way of expressing herself and starting to build up her confidence. There needs to be a few more external sources of validation for Penelope to help encourage her own inner confidence. Gradually, she will start to reveal more of herself to others and stick up for herself.

When Penelope experiences rejection and overhears what Colin says about her, it is awful and definitely was wrong of him, but ultimately will work out for the best in the long run. She will stop seeing Colin as the perfect version of him she had in her head. Once she is effectively hopeless that anything will ever change between her and Colin, she will undoubtedly feel less pressure to be perfect around him or what she thinks is "perfect" to him. She might be less "sweet" and self-effacing. It is too easy I think for the audience to forget that we the audience see so much more of Penelope in different contexts. We see her be cunning and business savvy. We hear her sassy retorts to her family or under her breath at balls. Colin has only gotten glimpses of that. In S2, he was only beginning to realize she had bigger dreams than she let on, so he definitely wouldn't expect her to already be out there actively going after them.

It's incredible to see so many side characters go out in search of their purpose in the wrong places or chasing the wrong opportunities, meanwhile Penelope knows what she wants all season long and is actively working to get what she wants. Benedict does this as well, but at the first big blow to his confidence he packs up and leaves art school. In contrast, Penelope loses everything but doesn't silently disappear with her tail between her legs. She recognizes that she has nothing left to lose at this point and no one (or so she thinks) is going to swoop in to save her except herself. I mean damn, that is some leading lady behavior.

Penelope's desire for freedom and self-expression will probably manifest in her gaining enough to confidence to hopefully stand up to her mother even if it's small. I anticipate she will push for more independence especially regarding her wardrobe early on in S3 if not in the time before. Dressing in a way that is more authentic to who she is will lend itself to having a bit more confidence. Most likely Lady Danbury will acknowledge her strengths and not underestimate her. I hope Pen has a similar relationship to Kate as well and I think they'll have the time/space to do that in the show. Given her fallout with Eloise is different from the book, I can't say how that will likely play out pacing wise. However, this will present a very good opportunity for Pen to stand up for herself, properly communicate, and expect Eloise to also be a better friend.

Another opportunity would be if they introduce a new character to act as a suitor for Penelope. They don't have to imo, but it wouldn't hurt especially since I doubt they would make him a serious contender in a proper love triangle. Plus, the opportunity is there if S3 wants to parallel the Odyssey a little more, because when the hero Odysseus finally arrives home to his wife Penelope (!) there are many suitors trying to marry her while she stays loyal to him in continuing to wait until he finally arrives and defeats them. There are so many possibilities for more Odyssey references, AHH!!!

Regardless, if they do all the little things to have Penelope grow her confidence and start showing everyone her whole self, then Colin would see it as well. He needs to see that last 10% of who she is and her confidence in being who she is, because confidence is sexy and attractive.

Seeing Pen be more confident and authentic will give Colin a big push he needs. She spent a lot of time in S1 and even more in S2, being Colin's "muse." She kindly encourages him to go after his dreams. In S3, she will undoubtedly have a much more blunt and LW-esque attitude about him still complaining he doesn't have a purpose and/or not going after what he wants. She'll start to actually challenge him in a way that isn't overly soft on his feelings. Additionally, he will see Pen leading by example. There are at least two great moments from the book where Pen almost holds back and stays quiet, before she finds a little bit more confidence to say out loud exactly what she thinks to Lady Danbury and to Cressida. She surprises herself and Colin who is very impressed.

Initially Colin is jealous over Pen's LW success, but ultimately it comes down to him wanting the same kind of self-assured confidence she has. She stands up for herself and defends her writing. She is proud of her work and draws the line at ever letting Cressida take the credit. This is an immense display of her confidence and pride in her work, despite what others think. Even if the person she is in love with does not (she thinks) appreciate her writing, she doesn't care; she is proud anyway. That kind of self-confidence is exactly what Colin is lacking. Truly recognizing that is what forces Colin to finally realize he has been holding himself back. He finally sees her as a whole person more clearly than ever and THAT is the moment he realizes he is in love with her.

Colin and Penelope in S2 both lack the confidence and/or self-understanding to be their most authentic selves, albeit in different ways. In S3, Colin will be traveling again so my best guess is that he will try writing to Penelope again. She won't write back as much if at all. Without that he would start to a) miss her and b) seek the fulfillment of expressing himself by writing a journal (at least I SO hope he does!) then he will start to finally c) rely on himself to develop an identity and a confidence in that identity regardless of total external validation.

I imagine there will be some drama when he finally gets back, (assuming he learns what she overhears pretty early on but who knows) then they'll resume their friendship only Penelope will be a little "different" this time and more herself.

There might be other aspects I've missed, but by more fully analyzing their individual characters setting up S3, this is essentially what I've come away with. It is very frustrating that Colin is so blind (if I really stretch it there are more odyssey parallels here but I digress), but it is consistent and in line with their development and arc so far. The girl he thinks he knows is his good friend Pen, but when they are both ready he will see who Penelope really is. She fell first, but he's about to fall harder :')

Yep my brain has done it again here are what I speculate the powers are

Saki - so idk how to explain it but it's like redirecting electricity. If something has electricity she can redirect with surprising precision. It's like the opposite of tsukasa who can summon electricity but isn't very good at controlling it

Mizuki - so she can control how people perceive/view her. It's kinda like Kano from kagerou but op. I thought of this bc love can change how you perceive someone and blah blah blah idk I think that's how my thought process went. I remember a while ago I had this au where Mizuki had the power to sew things together by touching them but that has nothing to do with love so

Ena - I feel like she has the power to heal but in order to do that she has to inflict a wound equal to the one you have. Like if you got stabbed she's going to also have to stab you in order to heal you. That's why she rarely uses it unless someone is in a life or death situation

I feel like she would also be absolute trash at archery. Like the one time she actually tried she gave up and chucked the arrow and the target. This is really random.

Akito - he can remove any downsides to abilities or boost it or smth. The only downside is that for some reason he's really cranky for the rest of the day so he avoids using it. I have 0 idea why I gave both Shinonome's abilities that they avoid using that was entirely on accident

Kohane - I'm still figuring out her's but maybe it's kinda like piper? Able to sweet talk her way through situations? I'm still figuring it out

(I should probably let you know that I haven't gotten a lot of ideas for camp Jupiter maybe I'll update this list later)

Tsukasa - I mentioned it at Saki's part but he can summon lighting but is absolutely trash at actually aiming at people. If they teamed up they would be way to op

Kanade - like hazel she can summon diamonds and other gems and with enough energy she can form them into different things (the only issue is that Kanade usually looks like she's about to pass out at any moment)

Shiho - I feel like she has the power to amplify her and inanimate objects volume (who needs speakers when you have Shiho!). Like during a battle you need your troop to hear you somehow. Thank God tsukasa doesn't have this

Mafuyu - able to cancel out abilities (INCLUDING the veil or mist or whatever they call it) by staring at them for more than 3 seconds. I think she's the only person who is semi aware of another camp bc of that (outside of Rui but more on that later). Honestly it's kinda like dazai from bsd but oh well

Toya - why is Apollo the god of so many things it's so hard to choose an aspect of him to focus on lol. I gave him the ability to see a few seconds into the future for about 10 minutes. The only issue is that after using the power he's going to be out of commission for a while

Shizuku - I don't have many ideas but I thought maybe the ability to teleport certain distances? Bc mercury is the god of travel of smth. Maybe she can fight like those Genshin characters where they teleport every 5 seconds behind their opponent

Ichika - I think she's actually Greek (specifically dionysus bc I need to spread my ichirui sibling propaganda) and is how both camps find out about each other

I feel like both Ena and Toya have perfect pitch to some extent and are naturally able to write lyrics. Ena helps Mafuyu with her lyrics sometimes

Now to rant about random ideas that have no specific theme (they sound more like headcannons lol)

For WXS the signs are so obvious but they're too dense to even notice. Like Nene would notice that during the summer when she, emu, and Rui are all at camp half-blood tsukasa is also out of town but then thinks "ig since we're all gone he's spending more time with outside auditions" and Tsukasa see's Rui holding a giant bronze sword and thinks "Wow Rui has improved so much over the years with his inventions! I'm so proud of him." They all go to Rui and compliment him on his "practical effects" for Tsukasa (electricity flying out of his hands) and Tsukasa compliments Rui sword skills and gives him pointers and he is somehow the only one who thinks "huh this is kinda weird" but he doesn't say anything bc he's scared that he might be wrong and have tsukasa think he's a weirdo or smth.

Akito also at some point also suspected something but when approaching Toya and asking he lies and says that his dad takes him to a lot of concerts to try to indoctrinate him into classical music again and Akito believes him bc 1. He's dumb and 2. He believes everything Toya says.

Capturing the flag with the Shinonome's would be wild. Usually when they're on separate teams their teammates will try to keep each other separate as much as possible or they'll drop everything they're doing and start arguing. Sometimes their teammates use this as a bait to distract everyone to run over to get the flag. And when they're on the same team they keep trying to out do each other which leads to some of the most ridiculous plans or fighting ever seen (I'm talking about using a machine gun for close combat and taking fallen arrows to use as daggers which usually work??? Somehow???) It's absolutely ridiculous.

There's also a smuggling system ran by Rui and Mizuki which the Shinonome's use a lot (they can't survive for more than a week without cheesecake). The Shinonomes are ridiculously in debt thanks to this. They also smuggle things other then food which is how Nene owns a whole gaming setup and PS4 (hidden in a panel made by yours truly, Rui)

Camp Jupiter also has a smuggling system ran by Tsukasa, Toya, Kanade, and occasionally Mafuyu. This system mostly uses the fauns to their advantage. They have to avoid An though bc for some reason she's trying to (and failing) to take the role of hall monitor in the camp.

I think that's it for now. I'm so sorry for making this so long 😭. I feel like at this point I've made my own au based on yours lol. I'll probably be back with another essay (unless you don't want me to which is fine)

Tsukasa and Saki sound incredibly silly, thank you I love that. The idea of them covering up each other's weaknesses has been in my head for some time already, I just need to figure out the specifics. When I was reading through that I subconsciously compared them to Aether and Lumine, because they have NA animations that mirror each other, which is amazing.

Mizuki was already in the plans and to be fair, your idea isn't that far off from what I had. I didn't post anything because I'm trying to figure out any other niigo member to pair them up with for the post.

Ena's simply reminds me of Yosano from BSD. I was wondering why the healing, but then I remembered "Oh right, Apollo's the god of healing too". The power would really fit her. And the archery thing is very Ena, she would do that. She still tries because she wants to make Apollo proud though (doesn't know Apollo doesn't give much shit as to what his kids use as a weapon).

In what way would using his powers make Akito cranky? Is it just a personality switch thing? If so, I don't find it much of an issue and why he would avoid it. It would be kinda OP for rap battles if he could do that to singing.

I just feel like for Akito there could be something more.

As for Kohane, I was trying to avoid Piper-ing her too much, but that power fits her a lot lmao

Kanade's gemstone powers would be like Hazel, but with more control and without the curse methinks. But yeah, Kanade passing out isn't an unusual thing, that is like her average Tuesday

I'm a bit sceptical for Shiho's power - yeah, it's definitely useful and of course could be used for the battlefield, but it doesn't feel like a Mars kid power to have? It does feel like a Zeus/Jupiter (wavelengths in the air getting affected) or Apollo (Apollo moment) kid power to have, in which Tsukasa could have that anyway (Camp Jupiter's worst fear).

Mafuyu being more perceptive with the veil thing (thanks for telling me how that ability is called btw, I have read the books in my native language and it's translated to "fog" there), is a good idea, it would definitely help her out with a lot. I can imagine her as a kid having some misunderstandings over it, but she had to play around it. Imagine at one point some monster replacing her mom to attack her and she's like "wow that is already way better than usual", but still has to run away from home.

As for Toyer - a different Apollo kid is already getting tormented with prophetic visions, because I got too silly </3

TECHNICALLY for anyone that wants to remix this AU it would be fine as an additional power him or Ena have.

It's honestly pretty wild how many different attributes Apollo has, but we're still having troubles coming up with powers.

When you mentioned the teleportation thing with Genshin characters I immediately thought of Ayato's E skill. Surprisingly, I think it fits perfectly, because it's already pretty graceful by default and her having slashed a training dummy to bits in a bunch of consecutive sweeps with a sword (probably a gladius since it's shorter) just for her to go "oh my, I did that?" afterwards is a funny vision to have.

Finally - Ichika is up to anyone's interpretation when remixing this AU. I did very much audibly "aww" at the ichirui sibling thing. Could be fun, could be cute.

As for the misc. thoughts:

1. WxS is definitely too dense to not realize until it's put RIGHT in front of their noses. Rui could have the "yeah, I had a slight idea", but still be surprised. I can imagine they tried a fighting scene in one of their plays and all of them were like "wow, Tsukasa/the other's feel like they were born to battle with weapons like that".

2. I already had an idea for the "Toya tries to tell Akito about his demigod self", but that ALSO includes my OC, so yeah, if you act like he doesn't exists (which he doesn't and I'm only delusional), your idea is completely valid for your own remix

4. I think if Akito and Ena get put on the same team however, they also keep arguing, but they argue in a way they don't see anyone or anything else. They will be as loud as possible, but they won't even notice someone's attacking them, they will just slash through without looking and move on after defeating an ambush. They won't even know what hit them (literally).

Same thing will happen if you put Akito with another OC of mine. They both hate it.

5. Didn't Camp Halfblood have something going like they could request any meal they wanted or was it Camp Jupiter??

I'm trying to remember, because I feel like if Camp HB had it, Akito and Ena wouldn't have to smuggle cheesecake. Getting Nene her gaming consoles must be a massive feat to achieve though, since monsters get drawn to electric devices when used by demigods.

As for Camp Jupiter - Mafuyu doesn't seem like the type of person that would think of smuggling stuff for others, because why would she do so? Personally none of the Camp Jupiter people really feel like the type of people to want to smuggle something in, most of them have morals. Using fauns is a good idea though. Maybe very occassionally they ask them for some things.

Hayato would be the guy to smuggle stuff in, but he is one of my prsk OCs, so for any remixes I can imagine people skipping him

And yeah, An is trying to police everything, but actually ends up in a lot of trouble anytime she trains with Haruka... Their rivalry gets out of hand 9/10 times. An is trying to make up for it by being a snitch lmao

Haruka is already spared because it's Haruka - she'll smile and suddenly "Yeah true, she couldn't have done that on purpose"

I like keeping it open, because it will spark some creativity in others. People are free to add their own additional powers, people are free to write stories or make art, there's a lot of room to work on it!

I feel like I'm only laying down some sort of base, a foundation on what others could do with it. You are free to brainstorm ideas and pitch in to help me. Working on an idea like this, especially YEARS after having last read PJO, is pretty dang difficult and it's easy to hit an artist/writer block.

1) Who is your favorite character to write for and is this the character you find easiest to write for?

I love writing for Carmen if it wasn't clear already. She comes easily to me and its easiest too put her in scenarios tm. I actually don't often write for others but I really want to experiment with it.

Hmmm. Good question and one I'm not sure I know the answer to. I like Upon the Sword, and I also really like a few of the shorter ones like the cardinal and the kitten and and the world was framed with red. currently a few wips are occupying my headspace as well

uhhh and the world was framed with red I guess. I'm happy with all of my fics though. i think i could have made that one more engaging and have better street appeal tho

well, I started out writing on wattpad- I posted two chapters of a fic and came back months later (i forgot lol) to a bunch of requests for me to continue. that really surprised me, and the relative popularity of upon the sword and love, carmen surprised me there too.

I like both but I usually do multi-chapters :D

6) Do you outline your fics? If so, how?

very, very chaotic bullet point lists usually. I will generally jot down an idea I have and if its lucky ill come and write down some base plot points. from there i'll usually fill in points for an "arc" and then set off (or start the fic and then fill in the plot...more usually. oops). one time for i think hearts and stars i did a full 20+ page document full of character outlines, motivations, emotions, and relationships with others plus plot, character goals, brainstorming, notes, title ideas, tons of blurbs, scene ideas, and even a mini screenplay format scene which i eventually added back in.

7) How do you edit your fics? What do you look for in your edits?

I usually write chunks at a time and when I start a new writing section I read the entire thing over and edit what doesn't read correctly for me. If something doesn't work and its a really big mistake I either ignore it (wow such writer lol) or entirely rework the plot to fix it lmao

8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics?

Uhh sometimes, yes. It sort of depends on what you mean- when I get injured, I take pictures of the blood or bruises for future reference. I write detailed synopses of pain and unique traumatic medical experiences, plus any depressive or anxious episodes I may go through. Uhmm lets see...I do a lot of research for some bits of the story and I'm often inspired by other things. they help me incorporate a sense of emotion and some realism. i also take inspiration from romantic body language I see portrayed in real life and media because I have 0 experience in that department

9) Do you visualize scenes in your head before you write them? (Can you picture the setting, character body language etc)

oh GOSH yes. currently for say you'll share with me one love one lifetime the scene I have planned for the (eventual) chapter 3 has been runnign through my mind for...maybe months. I plan out a basic action first, usually- in this case a specific consequence of carmne's injury and build a scene around it- who, where, the reaction, the aftermath, how to make it gayer, and how to make it tie in with everything else.

10) How do you feel about writing plot, setting/description, inner thoughts, dialogue?

hate plot honestly. could do without it, but you cant is the thing so i usually wing it (im trying to get better lol). i thrive on setting and description, LOVE that shit. inner thoughts are very fun to do and I like trying to weave a lot of emotion in there. dialogue is...ok. usually i feel a bit awkward with it unless I really get lucky (like a bit of dialogue I feel pretty proud of is the scene in hearts and stars where ivy asks carmen why she doesn't see herself as a person in chapter 11 and i think that confidence is reflected in my reader's reactions from what I've seen :3)

That is a really good question. Honestly, I have NO idea. Braig asks Young Xehanort, "Which poor soul will it be?" This implied two things:

-The person chosen would not become a vessel by their own free will.

-Braig did not know who the vessel was.

If it was supposed to be current timeline Braig, of course he'd know it was Saix. It definitely implied that it was Braig from the past. They were there to kidnap Isa and apparently Young Xehanort was able to appear there because of the Recusant's Sigil, I guess? But no explanation was ever given for that scene. Whatever story they were building up to with that secret ending, it got changed by the time KH3 came out. It's a real shame because it seemed interesting.

Even when I played CoM all those years ago, I always thought the idea was that Riku Replica WAS the KH1 Riku. He was the version of Riku who accepted the darkness and who was still trying to one-up Sora. Another thing that became more confusing in KH3.

I was really confused, too. Here is who I think the original True Organization XIII was going to be and why they were supposed to join:

Master Xehanort: He wanted to send the world back to the void and give it a rebirth.

2. Young Xehanort: Same as Master Xehanort.

3. Terra-Xehanort: His recompleted empty shell of a body from BBS was used as a vessel again. No free will in joining.

4. Ansem Seeker of Darkness: Same motivations as MX.

5. Xemnas: Same motivations as MX.

6. Vanitas: Same motivations as in BBS. Wants to confront Ventus.

7. Xigbar: Joined because he lusted after the Keyblade's power. Don't think he was originally planned to be Luxu.

8. Saix: Was subjected to mind control experiments as a kid. Similar to Terra, his recompleted body was an empty shell and collected and used as a vessel again. All that bullshit about how he joined of his own free will to atone was shoehorned in at the very last minute.

9. Demyx: In the Character Files, it mentions that he only joined the New Organization so he could have friends. He wanted to hang out with his old comrades again and agreed to become a vessel (wow that makes me wanna cry, poor Demyx).

10. Luxord: Joined because Xigbar promised him information on the black box. Luxord knew that the Book of Prophecies foretold the end of the world, and he was looking for hope.

I've written over 16 novels/novellas (some fanfic some not) and self published 3... which have few reviews and I took 1 off bc it had 1 review and that was bad.

I had 2 short stories published 7 years ago and when I told my grandma she said, you're 30 aren't you? Shouldn't you have accomplished more by now?

I had an internship I was fired from. I did temp and very minor jobs-- babysitting, crossing guard, simple office tasks with moms office. Wow. Data entry. Couldn't stand it but that's all I was capable of. Many interviews I failed bc. I can't hide my nervousness. I'm just incapable of pretending to be something I'm not, to hide any feelings plus I'm a loser who cannot suppress any feelings of terror.

I caused 5 car accidents, totaled my parents car once. Bc I couldn't learn how to drive. My reaction time is like half the speed of others. I'm I'm ridiculously slow compared to others. At everything. Can't figure out simple instructions like the internship. Like the restaurant job-- they kept having to tell me how to fold a wrap and I couldn't get it! How much of a loser is that!

Pet sitting for 10 years. Wow. Dont need any skill for that. Couldn't do more than a few a day or I get exhausted bc of driving, b irregular schedule. Stayed at other houses sometimes.

I think, I want to do something more. Work for myself but move toward what I want most, what I believe in and love doing.

But maybe someone like me isn't capable of achieving their dreams.

On $1200/month. So I dropped out. And lost most of my pet siting income in 2020 so. )

Finally I'm like, I have to figure out now and move forward. (I write notes, and I think this often. Trying to organize in right way... find right focus... don't want to for instance waste money on a degree that will get me nowhere. None will get me anywhere bc I'm not capable of anything)

An interlude, Feb 2022 Ukraine war explodes into my mind. I do nothing for several months (besides neccesities) other than follow developments. Then I'm like, I have been looking into this anyway, I'll do OSINT. Research and help them. But in practice-- I can't figure it out. Well... I'm just so unfocused. Don't know what I'm doing as always. I have desire to but my mind doesn't work this way. Looking at extreme details. And I am deeply affected by any sort of people on distress AND looking at harsh words... with this mental health...well.

I figure I had better try to earn some money. I can send more to Ukraine anyway . And other places (since that's about all I can do. Which is almost not worth doing its so insignificant) I need to move out. Well.. who wants to be associated with this anyway. I should probably just move to a cabin and not bother anyone.

And write... make my blog and research to help people, consolidate Ideas (idea person. Big picture. When I can't do even small things lol). And get a masters degree. Move forward. I can do it! Yesterday I'm like, I will do psychology, help kids who were abused, have a farm with therapy with animals and art... write and research (intellgence!) Today's Topic: Patience and Appreciation

Today's topic is about one thing I have a hard time grasping and the other I feel like I have enough sometimes. Both need work. I have been inactive lately due to me being out of town with my now FIANCE! It's been an amazing weekend to wind down, relax, and regroup my thinking.

The first topic I want to cover is patience. They say patience is a virtue, and I have yet to find that fully. I am someone who has -0 patience. I deal with major anxiety and that definitely enables my impatience. I am the one person who will be tapping my foot, sighing, making it obvious that I want things to go quicker and this can be in any setting! I know God has put me through more than a few lessons on this topic, and I know I'm going to have to go through more tests as the years go by, wanting to be a wife and a mother. The definition of patience via Google states: "the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset."

Wow. So I'm just going to say we ALL have the capacity to have patience and tolerate delay without getting upset or angry. But how many of us actually do this? I can guarantee there's few people who can have the full capacity to. We have to be patient with our spouse, children, work, and most importantly ourselves. I know that for a while, I hadn't been patient with myself. That had led to despair, relapse, and stress. But being patient with yourself is more than just tolerating delay, it's trusting that you are going to wait for the end result. Having faith, is what helps you be patient.

A lot of us do this with God. Imagine anything you want or have been wanting. We know we won't get it right away 9/10 times, but being patient and faithful with God, has resolved all those feelings of doubt, worry, and stress. My fiance tells me all the time, "Don't stress about things you know will come soon or one day. Let it come to you, don't be putting pressure on coming to it." You shouldn't watch a boiling pot, they say, or you'll be sitting there for a long time. We have to learn and apply patience wherever we can, and letting yourself be capable to do this. We all have it in us somewhere, we just got to fish it out and use it!

Now, on the second topic, which is appreciation. The definition of appreciation via Google states: "recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something."

How many "Appreciation Posts" do you see about someone on social media or ones that you have posted? (I am guilty of this.) We think appreciating someone is just typing a bunch of great words and meaningful pictures of memories that no one really cares about except you and that person. Why don't we bring our appreciation to life more? The definition says, "recognition and enjoyment". When's the last time you enjoyed your spouses company over a great dinner and your guys favorite movie? Now, that's a core memory to appreciate right there. I would take that over a post any day. Posts can be discarded or lost in the Ethernet. Memories that you create or moments, are something people will never forget.

I didn't appreciate what I had A LOT of times in my life. More recently, I didn't realize how much I need to appreciate the ring that is now on my finger, given to me by my now fiance. When he first proposed to me, I wasn't ready for him. I was too busy chasing my past, trying to fix mistakes that were doomed from the start. I didn't realize or appreciate the amazing man right in front of me all along that would give me the universe, if he could. I appreciate that now, since it's been a year that him and I have been together, that I have since thrown away my past farther than I can see. Also, I didn't appreciate the hometown I live in for a long time. When my fiance and I went up North this weekend, it was beautiful, cool, and relaxing. Frankly, because I wasn't thinking about the bullshit back at home.

But now that I'm back, I'm working on getting us a place up there, I'm finally back to going to meetings. Working on myself as far as sobriety, wedding planning, going back to work soon. I just had to be patient, and let God handle the ropes for this roller coaster ride I've been on. He definitely came through, and I can just imagine what more he will bless me with if I stay faithful and patient over what he has planned for me.

"Appreciate what you have now, while being patient for what's to come." Quoted by my fiance, who just made that up on his own. I can't even disagree one bit with this, because it's true! We walk around a lot frustrated and complaining over the things we don't have, we forget to recognize and enjoy the things we do have! That a lot of people around this big whole Earth, don't have!

Let's be patient for our blessings, and appreciate the current blessings that were bestowed upon us by our Heavenly Father. Without him, we wouldn't have anything! He wants us to be patient and pass his tests, to see if we're worthy of the blessings he has waiting for us!

Do something special for someone you love, haven't shown appreciation for lately, or someone in need of it. This could be making a nice dinner for your spouse, or ordering a massage for your friend with 5 kids who overworks herself and needs a break. You could send flowers to your wife, or take your kids their favorite meal during their lunch at school. (My mom used to do this, and it made me feel so special that she thought of me out of her busy day.) My thoughts: I sent Scout 23 messages about them this morning before she woke up you don't want me to pop off here. In short, i think they have a really fascinating dynamic and the shift in their relationship breaks my heart. I am always thinking about their shift from being the only ones they have TOGETHER (we're the strongest) to being the only ones they have ALONE (i'm the strongest). I think the shift from geto being his moral compass to going off the deep end is just so interesting to think about and also lord help me even 10 years later they arent over their breakup they are in love.

What makes me happy about them: I love thinking about their time in school together and the small moments they would have had together, i love the idea of two incredibly powerful characters trusting each other despite their differences and the fact that they GENUINELY are the only ones who knew the other? wow.

What makes me sad about them: God, everything. How if Satoru had been a little less emotionally closed off and really talked to Suguru about whats wrong we could have had it all, but also Suguru wasn't being open either.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: acting like Gojo was the only one in the relationship that was bad about being in a relationship. they were both not good at talking about their feelings

Things I look for in fanfic: Angst angst angst; gentle touches and just. lingering on them being physically affectionate; them being little shits to each other but also its flirtatious

My wishlist: oh i want to see some deeply angst shit when Gojo gets out of the box and sees Kenny. Whether its him seeing Yuta having killed Geto so he doesnt have to again or if he has to kill him a second time- i just want Gojo to cry about his dead boyfriend.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Akutami has literally said Gojo isn't likely to be faithful to a single woman so i truly don't know that he could have a partner in the end? I think him ending up simply as a teacher surrounded by students who care about him is his best possible ending. And Geto is well. I don't think he's ending up with anyone.

My happily ever after for them: Ok i KNOW he's not gonna come back but i have a small little glimmer of hope and in the fix-it fic in my brain they make it out of all this shit together and go resolve their trauma far away from everything. The most likely ending i feel like is. Gojo being buried near Geto or being with him after death.

How I feel about this character: I once again point to the 23 messages i sent to scout before she woke up.

ANYWAY Gojo is the loneliest person in all of jjk welcome to my tedtalk. I think he is such an interesting character that gets reduced to jokes by a lot of the fandom (and yes i am guilty of making jokes about him too because he is fun to slander) but in reality he has been through so much and he is untouchable by the way their society works and literally untouchable by pretty much everything and despite how much he cares he can't get too attached because he's seen firsthand what their world is like and he wants to change it. He literally had one person he trusted and they left him and its any wonder he distances himself from others? I think he genuinely cares but is so emotionally closed off because of his upbringing and the expectations the world has on him but it is so clear that despite the fact that he is trying to get his students to be. More than him so they can change the system, he also wants them to have what he didn't.

Lighter note: Gojo is a Swiftie, pass it on

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: He said it himself. His one and only. You don't break up with someone outside KFC and then still think about them 10 years later.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Him and Megumi as the "father"/son dynamic.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Fandom reduces him far too much to being a bad guardian to Megumi and just in general a menace to society but i firmly believe that he did the best he could with Megumi (he was a teenager taking care of a kid who gave 0 shits about him like it wasn't going to be perfect) and that he really does love him as a son, and also like, he is so much more than being a silly goofy guy and I just think fanon interpretation and jokes has taken it too far.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I've been very big into the left eye theory lately, but i also really really just want some juicy Came Back Wrong when he gets out of that box. There's no way that physical separation is helping his general isolation and loneliness and im so ready for him to be feral when he's released. Also I would like him to cry soon. Pls and thank you.

Final thoughts:

Ok, I have a confession here: I'm not a big fan of the Barbie as herself movies. Like, not at all. I think they lack most of the things I love about the other Barbie movies, like the magic, the whimsical feeling, the beautiful fantasy worlds, etc. I think my favorite Barbie as herself movies are Fashion Fairytale and Fairy Secret, and even then, I like them but I wouldn't say I love them, you know? So yeah, as you can imagine, this movie was also not my thing.

We had some good memes, and I liked the friend characters, but that's honestly all the praise I have. Other than that, the movie didn't really have a plot, their depiction of high school was really cliche, and the movie was full of elements that didn't make any sense and added nothing to the story. And all I have to say about the animation is thank god they only kept this style for one movie.

So yeah, I'm not really feeling this one. I understand why this movie had a sort of renaissance recently, because you can't deny the memes were good, but overall it's just not for me.

This is a personal opinion but from where I see it the Given movie and the anime itself definitely was... something that I would question because somethings just.. didn't make sense to me. The development of the Characters were either super fast or super slow and it made the pacing really really weird for me idk. But I do think that a huge reason so many people love the Given movie is because of the fact that when you compare Given to OTHER JP BL animes, there's very very slight improvement in terms of the story itself of Given. Is the story poorly executed? Fucking hell, who the hell is going to say no here. But is it better then some of the JP BLs out there? That's depended on how you view BL to be. For a lot of people things like Super Lovers or Hitorijime My Hero are super unbearable to watch because it's "problematic" (which honestly okay, you do you BB) which then leads them to look for BL animes that DON'T have such "themes." Leading them to actually liking things poorly executed but just "not problematic", Given for example.

Given is “not problematic”? Debatable.

Their first kiss was right after Mafuyu finally had a courage to sing a song about his ex who commited a suicide. ???

Problematic doesn’t only mean stuff like “he’s underage”. What about using someone to get over your grief or getting into a relationship with someone who is still not over his ex death and is vulnerable at the moment? Is this suddenly “not problematic” bc they’re same age and he haven’t pushed him into a wall in throws of passion?

To me it’s not even about the fact if it’s problematic or not (it’s rarely not tho, no matter what ppl think), it’s about whether its believable and feels genuine or not. It depends on many factors: situation, characters past, traumas, etc, etc. It depends on the story and how you write it.

Change some stuff and it’s gonna be a completely different thing. Make it like Uenoyama only hugged Mafuyu after the song, even tho he wanted to kiss him, but knows that it’s not the right moment. Make Mafuyu heal first, make Uenoyama be in his own angst that he loves Mafuyu so much for example, but cares about him recover more, so he doesn’t expect for it to go somewhere, then he tries to date someone and Mafuyu first starts getting out there, when he feels like he can start trying again. Someday he gets sick and Uenoyama cancels his date to take care of him even tho it’s nothing serious and then the realization comes. Make Mafuyu kiss him first and take the first step. This would’ve changed everything so much. He should’ve made the first step when he was ready, this would’ve felt so right. Uenoyama kissing him after that song is just.. it feels, I was like ehhhmmm.. weird?

Seeing someone saying that Given is a masterpiece is hilarious to me. The fact that it includes heavy themes like suicide, doesn’t make it a masterpiece, esp when it’s handled this badly. Once again, if you pick such thing as a base for a love story, do it right then, not in a “bibbidi bobbidi boo” kind of thing. 

BL or not BL, any relationships, it depends on whether you watch it and it feels plausable or not. 

For example, if Yuu says that he can’t live with Mika, my tongue won’t even twist to call it “unhealthy” or be like “dude why”. But if some high schooler in slice of life anime who has a caring family tried to end himself bc his two weeks friend left him, I would’ve yelled “bitch go see a doctor”. 

Depending on the story you can sell some feelings or not.

Nezumi and Shion are also problematic according to ppl’s logic these days. But I 100% believe they’re each other’s true loves. Only 11 episodes and it’s sold.

In Given I didn’t believe it. Bc it’s ridiculous, ok? It wasn’t the right place or time to start this relationship. It is not a new love story, it’s just a sad story. 

Given movie is slightly better compared to other japanese BL? Why would you offend Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Uragiri wa boku no namae, No.6 and many others?

Also better where? They kept the same old “’stop, i don’t want to’, but he did it anyway” stuff AND on top of that the story sucks.

The way he used him knowing very well that he was unrequitedly in love with him for so long is so disgusting that it leaves a much grosser feeling than many yaois combined. Like excuse me for the fact that when I watch some shonen-ai and yaoi, I judge it the same way I judge any other genre and any other relationships (hetero or gay) in animes. On a scale whether I care or don’t care, whether I believe that they love each other or don’t, whether it’s a good story or not. I don’t get what it means “it’s good for yaoi”. It’s just not good. This movie is trash, I mean, the relationship in it is trash. Who the fuck cares gay or not gay. Trash relationships are trash. Bad story is a bad story. Whether it’s a bad gay story or a bad hetero story, I don’t give a shit.

The reason I’m more into boy on boy ships is because I love the relationships there more than relationships in most heterosexual couples. My fav hetero ships are either “from hate/attraction to love” stories like “gone with the wind”, “anastasia” or “pride and prejudice” or stuff like “equals without pink goo, who only see each other and don’t need no one else and would die for each other, epic soulmates” like Richard and Kahlan. In anime 99% of those fit bromances, not romances. Like I don’t find Midoriya/Uraraka appealing at all for a reason that “she said ‘hi’, he blushed as a tomato, now they’re supposed to be each other’s romantic interests” is not what I find romantic. I find romantic the fact that Todoroki is forever devoted to Midoriya bc he knows he’s amazing and is not afraid to say it; and he’ll always be there for him when he needs him, no matter what it is, him just sitting there crying, some villain trying to kill him or if he’s too late out ther grossery shopping. Uraraka most of the times doesn’t even care where he is.

Most hetero romantic animes, I just find ridiculous, too cheesy and unrealistic and I’m not ready to watch 50 episodes for them to hold hands. I’m not in that age and I also never found things like this romantic before either. Stuff like Kisa/Yukine, when you meet someone, find him attractive, wanna fuck him, then fall in love accidentally.. yeah, that’s understandable to me. Stuff like Takano/Onodera “I was an naive idiot in high school, but now life made me a sassy bitch and I can’t open up to people as easily” also yes, relatable. 

When you’re turning into a tomato bc someone said “penis” and think holding hands will take your virginity or smth, that’s not my thing.

So when I watch BL, I expect more, not less. So if it’s bad, I just say it’s bad, I’m not gonna be like “hmm... unproblematic... then 10/10″ like what? 

1stly, even “little mermaid” and “cinderella” are problematic. 

2ndly everyone is so focused on purity these days, like storyline don’t matter at all. It’s like any great love story is automatically trash if they have age difference. Any trash love story is great, if they don’t?

Let’s then also rate “Dororo” as 1, bc it’s like 24 episodes of them falling for each other while she’s 11 and he’s 16. Wow, such gross relationships they have during the whole story. Doesn’t matter that she grew up at the end of the last episode, the whole anime she’s a child. And let’s rate Noragami 0, bc 2000 years old perverted Yato is into 15 year olds.

No one has to fuck asap (heck even in the same hella problematic “Super Lovers” you talk about, Haru refused to fuck Ren even tho he was 17 in s2 and wanted to fuck another guy) and the rule “you can only fall in love after 18″ doesn’t exist. Also underage is not BL thing, it’s all anime thing. It’s time to shut it already. There are zillions of age gap couples out there who are great. Hyakkimaru waited for Dororo to grow up, it’s fine, seriously, they love each other in the right way, he didn’t want to fuck her when she was 11, okay? They did love each other tho already then. Pls excuse them for that.

3rdly, some relationship that ppl here call unproblematic are 20 times more problematic, than what they call problematic.

4tly, why the heck it’s like couples who have an amazing character and relationship progression, who love each other to death and will do anything for each other, ppl go: “wow, at the very beginning, he grabbed his wrist, he needs to go to jail”. Meanwhile a relationship who has no base, no story, no logical progression, no anything are “yes, best love story in the world”. Yeah... who cares if it feels like it’s all been pulled out of an ass and doesn’t make sense, very healthy tho.

It sounds lately like if most ppl here had two stories in front of them and one would be about two men who just met and the next day one proposed and they lived happily ever after and 2nd would be some complicated incredible story with a natural progression of the relationship, but they yelled at each other once, they’d be like “1st is better”. Well, not to me, no.

I love Techno, C! Techno, and CC! Techno. Both are just monotone murders of the heart. But, more into C! Techno! I do appreciate that when Techno is onscreen, he says something that makes you go "Oh fuck, shit bout to go down". He is so scary and when you see what he does in lore streams, whether it's fighting or poetry, he makes you feel something. (also, I read the whole Sun Tzu: Art of War. Disclaimer: It's long, will give you a headache, and you need to take notes.)

I love that Techno is in the morally gray like he will do what he deems right in the situation. For example, he fights alongside Philza and Dream to destroy a country. But then, he starts the Antarctic Empire, which is sorta a monarchy/dictatorship as he tries to get rid of all government opposing him. (I am full of shit so, if I am wrong, please tell me). So, yeah, I like that he is him.

I love CC! Quackity. He is male wife and he is pretty (not as pretty as Sam, but I digress). Now, I will thoroughly tell you how much I hate his character.

C! Quackity makes me want to rescue Dream. I hear you saying, "Whitney, he's not that bad, is he? Freeing Dream, come one, Quack's not that bad." But, oh yes, it is.

Now, for content, I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh season 0 (that shit is dark, please make more) and I thought to myself, "Wow, Yami (or Atem, if you're annoying) is really beating these guys up. Like, I get their horrible people, but you literally trapped Kiba in a card and forced him to feel the pain of battling monsters."

I then thought, well that's what Quackity is doing. Dream has already lost and is locked in prison with no chance of parole, no need to torture him.

And, sure, I get Big Q wants the revive book but, is torture the best way to do it? I would literally prefer to say you'll let him out if he gives you the book and when he gives you the book, put him back inside the prison.

I love how ballsy this guy is. He is like, "Ah yes, I will now torture my husband's former best friend because if he finds out he will totally not be pissed! This is a great idea :]".

He honestly made me laugh when he was torturing Dream. Is this because I am very tolerant to dark jokes? Yes. Do I care what you think, you normie? No.

Hi there! I just started following so sorry if this is a major repeat question. I used to keep fish and had dabbled in water snails, but I can't have a tank at the moment and was interested in a snail-terrarium (I'm into plants so I figured putting one together with the snail add in wouldn't be hard, but I don't really know how to go about it. i’ve never gotten this question before and you have no idea how excited i am to answer it. my time has come.

Oh, and if you’re looking for advice on care for giant african land snails, I unfortunately can’t help you. They’re illegal where I live so I can really only help in terms of native/garden snails :0( !

I’m going to sum things up easily since my own attention span is so short and paragraphs might be harder to read for this…

But I do suggest you read everything, as all of it is important. Sorry if this is a super long post!

Environment:

Ideally, acrylic house/container to live in. Must have breathing holes and a lid which can’t super easily be opened (snails are escape artists)

Substrate changes depending on the size of snail. For smaller snails I recommend using a damp paper towel (and change every few days) but for larger snails I recommend coconut shavings and sphagnum moss.

Enrichment is needed! Snails are curious and need places to explore, and places to hide. I’m using a recycled kinder egg capsule for Cube, which is even better since it’s reused (and basically free. And Cube, my snail, loves it!)

Daily water mistings are a must. Snails live in moist environments - why we often see them after it rains - and I highly suggest using rain water especially if your snail was feral/wild.

Environment must be kept clean! Clean out any snail shit you might find ASAP.

Food:

Pretty much anything a human can eat. It would be good to know the kind of snail though, because some land snails prefer “meat” (eggs, carcasses of other dead bugs and things) but almost all snails love vegetables. It’s important to note that snails can become addicted to one food easily if fed too much of it, so try to have variety. Although, snails can be extremely picky eaters…

And please be careful of what you feed your snail too. No pesticides or chemicals. All food gets washed well before feeding.

Before I continue: Calcium powder on everything. I paid 10$ for a bottle of it at petsmart and it will last me a life time. Brush calcium powder in the nooks and crannies of all food.

It’s also easier for snails to eat hard vegetables if you blanch or boil them before feeding it to them. But make sure it’s cooled off first!!

Vegetables:

Carrots (Cube’s personal fave)

Tomato

Lettuce

Cucumber

Mushroom

Green beans

Sprouts

Peas

Corn

Dandelion leaves (from outside)

Fruits:

Apples

Grapes

Mango

Strawberry

Raspberry

Other things to consider (yes, even for land snails.)

Snello (Recipe provided)

Algae wafers

Handling snails:

Human skin is salty, be sure to wash hands before setting your snail on your skin

Hairs are pokey, try to place your snail in a [mostly] hairless part of your body 

Smaller snails can be woken up by breathing (NOT blowing) warm breath into their shell. Sounds gross, but the warmth from your breath will wake them up. (I speak from experience)

Bigger snails can be woken up by gently stroking their tail/foot with your finger. (I speak from experience, it works every time, dont ask me why.)

Don’t try to lift your snail up if they’ve suctioned themselves to something!! Pulling their shell to hard can hurt them.

When you’re handling them, they may rasp (lick) you. This surprisingly kind of hurts, but they only do it because they think you’re food (and will quickly learn you are not!)

They may be deaf, but their skin can sense vibrations. Please don’t yell or make too many loud noises while you’re handling them, as this could cause stress.

Please no strong perfumes, lotions, hand sanitizers, etc while you handle snails. They navigate their world through touch, smell, and taste primarily. Anything too strong may cause pain.

No bright lights please! Snails have simple eyes which mean they can’t truly see, and can only really detect where a light source is. Nonetheless, bright lights are bad for their eyes.

When handling snails, getting gloves isn’t a bad idea. No snail skin hurts, and no rasping! I personally don’t use gloves, but I only really touch my snail if he’s pretending to be a race car. nyoom!

Be gentle in general. Broken shells can potentially kill a snail. This is also why calcium powder is very important.

Behavior:

They’re very curious and like to explore. They explore through touch, taste, and smell. 

Probably faster than you might think they are. Whenever you have your snail out of their home, which you should often since they can get depressed if they’re all cooped up (just like humans,) please keep a close eye on them!

If you’re keeping more than one snail, you’re taking the risk of having a clutch of eggs or two. Snails are hermaphrodites which means they possess female and male reproductive organs. They cannot self-fertilize, and do need a partner for it, but be careful!

Rasping, as mentioned above, is a thing they do. If you’re keeping other snails, they might do this to other snails on their shells - so be careful!

All snails have individual personalities and like different things, as well as behave differently and respond to stimuli differently. Keep this in mind as you’re keeping your snail(s)!

Most garden snails only live for about a year or two (sad face :0( !)

Extra tips:

Learn snail anatomy, even basic stuff! You’ll learn cool things like… How they shit through their nose. Yes. Thats actually true. 

Try to ID your snail based on your location, their individual behavior, and their “look.” This can also help you determine diet.

Copper hurts snails a lot. If you’ve been working with copper, sorting pennies (you know, as ya’ do.) or etc, try not to handle your snails for a while and be sure to wash your hands before you do, just to be sure.

This is very important, but please let your snails out of their house at least once a day for 30 minutes. Constant sleeping or inactivity for long periods of time is an indicator that your snail isn’t feeling their best. Let them explore things outside of their home. Just like humans, snails which are cooped up in a confined space (which may seem huge to them, still;) they can get - basically depressed. They’ll seem to only really sleep… all… the time… This is just their way of letting you know they’re feeling a bit down and would like some time outside. I keep Cube on the lid of his container (it acts like a dish) along with some food and a structure to climb on or hide in.
