Hello again

After all this time, I finished this god damned piece for @/thesuperiorlokiseries . It is done, it is finished, and god did it take me a while (no not bcs I procrastinated the hell out of it-)

I really wanted to colour this sketch because I felt that the raw thing didn't really do the character justice? I mean there is my rendition of the younger Loki from the rewrite (go check it out it's so infinitely better than the source material lmao).

Nothing much was changed from the original sketch except a slight sleeve redesign, but otherwise I'm very happy with how they turned out!

I've been a huge fan of Additional Memory the past few months and associated Nagito to the will stetson cover of it for some reason lately, apparently it's apart of a franchise that's tied to Kagerou Days???!? I don't know too much about it, it seems like a lot haha. Saving it for later if I ever want to get into a complicated big franchise type new thing lol. But I keep thinking of him when I listen to it even though it's not specifically his situation. The song itself and how it builds up, gets so chaotic, has a climax and then calms down with the last major intense climax representing the actual death is fitting to me. (me when i go crazy over an instrumental😭😭😭😭😭)

I also associate Identity by Kanaria for Hajime/Izuru and Dear Doppleganger by Kemu with them as well.

I tend to associate a lot of INABAKUMORI songs with Nagito Komaeda too loll the occasional somber tones, well set up sections where you require patience, and high energy beats fits a lot of his aspects of his character to me lol. Lagtrain I've associated him with for years because I think it slightly lyrically fits

Also. I cannot talk about Vocaloid without talking about Ghost and Pals when they've been on my spotify wrapped like 4 times in a row LMAOO 😭 But two of a kind also gives me an ever so slight association to Nagito. Not entirely lyrically, which is why I feel it might seem silly of me to say it, but but mostly just the INSTRUMENTAL TRULY SELLS IT. Like, the calmness, slight intensity increase, back to calm, and completely insane until the very end is just fitting to me.

Hayloft II by Mother Mother - There was also another song I thought of immediately for this BUT!! I can't NOT bring up Hayloft II (roman numerals count right?) because this is the song of all time for my super self indulgent evil Wester AU playlist. Whenever my friend refers to wanting Wester to finally snap under pressure they refer to it as him going Hayloft II (also the burning barn acoustic version is *chef kiss)

11. A song that you never get tired of

Glimpse of Us by Joji - hahaha ok. Joji is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine but I can't deny the the sadboy songs are not on brand for my cheesy side. Anyways, when Glimpse of Us dropped my partner and I listened to it a countless number of times and I made the song all of my friend's problems too- to the point I accidentally made it one of their spotify wrapped top played song for the year lmaoo. There's something about this song that I could listen to on an endless loop... Curse you Joji for making a track that scratches my brain in a good way!!

20. A song that has many meanings to you

The Place Where he Inserted the Blade by Black Country, New Roads - I love this song and it's one I usually use in playlists that have to do with relationships that are tragic in one way or another. To me, it's a song that has feelings of guilt, mourning, love, heartbreak, and longing. It has a meaning of finding closure, reflecting on the past, remembering old wounds, and missing someone dear. I wish I was more eloquent with words to summarize everything but it's sort of a 'I feel these vibes' song for me~

The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson - Realllyyyyy reaching back for this one (curse my memory). But again, my mom had an interesting choice of listening to music while I was small. There’s already been some theories about Striker losing what would’ve been his bar based on all the cluttered stuff he has around his lair, so that’s something to think about, and it connects back to his line to Blitz in HMF about how not many imps start businesses on their own yk.

Part of my backstory for Striker that I hope to share properly soon but my anxiety hates me LMAO has to do with him losing his wife and daughter (this man is so girl-dad shaped i promise) alongside his family that day and that little idea has become an entire google doc and timeline😭 I’ve had a lot fun with it and I wanna share ittttt, especially his wife I made bc I absolutely adore her sm she’s one of my favorite OC’s I’ve made bc I designed her to be this direct contrast to Striker in like every where, even down to her name, and i just ughhhh I love her and I love them. rt i can write an essay about how fucking good I think In My Sights is and how it absolutely captures EVERYTHING about Striker’s character and story thus far. Every time I listen to it (which is often clearly) I ALWAYS find something new to appreciate.

And omgggg Ed’s vocals make me meltttttt.

I’ve never really talked about Striker’s voice change on here before but I truly don’t mind it and I actually adjusted to Ed’s performance rather quickly. As iconic as Norman’s was, I just feel Ed fits Striker’s character a lot better and we’ve been able to see more sides of him through Ed’s performance. Ed is such a wonderful voice talent and it saddens me people don’t appreciate his Striker enough because they’re still stuck on Norman. There’s so much range in Ed’s performance and I rlly enjoy him a lot.

I was always begging to hear how Ed would sing for Striker once he took over the character bc Sweet Victory was Norman’s little song (this song is so stupid i love it so) and he ate that up so ofc I was like Ed needs to sing too duh. I already knew he could sing bc I was a Hunicast viewer and heard that man sing as Alastor. So I wondered if he could do the same given Striker’s country accent and lower tone.

OKAY I'M FEELING LIKE ANSWERING SOME ASKS SO HERE WE GO I'M STARTING WITH THIS ONE FROM AN OLDER GAME BECAUSE IT'S BEEN HERE IN MY ASK BOX FOR LIKE 3 WEEKS

technically the latest fic I had posted when I reblogged this was Scars and Stitches BUT right before that I posted What Are You Waiting For? which is FAR more interesting to me SO I'm answering for that one because rules are fake and I feel like it.

5. How do you decide how long your fics/chapters will be? Do you have a word count goal?

Ha. Ha! I don't decide anything. Do you all think I'm out here deciding that my next update for Know Yourself should be 18k words?? Of course not.

Here's how it goes: I tell any given chapter what I think should happen. The chapter says "hmmmm, maybe. We'll see." Then I beg the chapter to please please please please please not be over 10k words. It gives me a smile like it thinks I'm adorable for even asking when we both damn well know that the chapter will do whatever it wants, and what I want has nothing to do with it. And then either the chapter takes mercy on me (like it did in this fic) or it Does Not (like it is doing in Know Yourself).

7. What part of this fic/chapter was the most fun to write? 

Honestly, the whole first chapter. There's just something about the way it flows that I feel so good about 💚

8. Which line/paragraph are you most proud of? Why are you proud of this? 

But the strangest thing is how everyone believes Jason anyways. Just like that.  Then again, Dick is backing him up, so of course they believe him. Everyone believes Goldie, all of the time. He just flashes that gorgeous smile like a fucking master key, and Jason’s always been a tiny bit jealous that everyone else turned out so goddamn endearing.  Not that being intimidating doesn’t have its uses, but sometimes he can’t ignore how much easier certain things would be if his edges were just a little less sharp.

This whole section. I think it's just that this is one of those thoughts that Jason keeps to himself, even though he thinks it fairly often. It captures a part of Jason I rarely see represented, which is how he came back different and he feels different from the rest of the bats in a lot of ways that strain his relationship with them. (Also, I feel like this reads in his voice really well which is something I sometimes have a hard time feeling like I nailed.

15. What is one question you wish someone would ask you about this work? Ask it and answer it.

There is ALWAYS a question I want to be asked about fics, and it is what songs inspired them! I listen to so much music (Spotify wrapped outed me last year at 84k minutes of listening lmaoo) and I used to write to music a lot but I've been finding it distracting lately.

but an alternate streaming payout model for music streaming has been floating around for a while,

so currently the model is that we all pay $15 for the service, spotify then pools all the money together, then they take their share, and from whats left they divide it up based on who got the most streams, so they do (money divided by total number of streams = whatever cents per stream) then the artist get their cut depending on how large of a percentage of total streams were of one of their songs (sorry this is really convoluted) this is fine for big artists like taylor and the weekend and even the 1975 but its really bad for small artists who cant get enough streams to compete with em. personally i also think its unfair to the listeners of smaller artists

anyway the alternative is to divide up the money based on the person, so eg i pay $15 and this month i only listen to the 1975 and lana del rey SOOO after spotify takes their cut the remainder of MY should be split between lana and the boys depending on MY streams. this would really help out smaller artists with dedicated listeners and hopefully make them less reliant on touring

tbf tho i don't know how this would work for family plans or podcast and spotify would argue that its too hard (to which id say.... u can do wrapped so its not like they dont have the data)

oh and all the tv and movies streaming services will get their act together (or die) when piracy rates get really high, its just a matter of time

Ohhhhh really??? I’m super into this. And YEAH I AM INTERESTED it’s not convoluted at all. I actually talk about this because every spring semester (except rn cuz I’m on ‘research leave’ right now) I teach a music and poetry course. And, for the music part of it, every single damn year I agonize over what streaming platform to assign students precisely because artists don’t get paid well, especially smaller artists. After much moral anguish I always end up going back to Spotify cuz like….thats the best option.

I know that Tidal (Jay Z’s streaming service????) is slightly more ethical but they don’t have everything. Some of the stuff I assign is hella old and obscure and stuff. So ;( I always feel bad about it. SO THIS WOULD BE AWESOME if they could pay artists based on wash individual listener’s streams. That way smaller artists can get their fans’ streams and I can feel slightly less shit about it haha.

Yeah, especially with boycotts rn, for Disney and Noah Schnapps’s stranger things on Netflix. Everyone is already leaning towards piracy lmaoo. Writers and actors deserve to get paid. Netflix and Apple TV and all their bunch can fuck off.

Hi!!! Omg its been a minute, my weekends are so busy I can never get time just sit down and type these out im sorry Mel. But omg yesss that video of Minho showing Jeongin the dance is one of my absolute favorite videos! I totally get trying to like just one group, especially when they have so many members. Every group I liked when I first got into Kpop I was like ok its JUST going to be this one… these two…. Just these three and now I think my wrapped said I listened to like 200 Kpop groups this year lmao. All your groups are suchhh good choices I stan most of them too! I think p1h is the only one I haven’t really listed to  yet, mostly cause they debuted at the beginning of the huge jump in groups debuting that’s happened over the last few years, and I find them all so overwhelming. 14. tis the damn season

im sorry i like the song but the instrumentation reallt isnt for me. the story is incredible but the lyrics just dont resonate with me.

13. cowboy like me

i dont like the melody on this one. cant explain it, theres nothing specifically wrong with it, but i just dont vibe with it. that being said, i still listen to it regularly, just less than the others.

12. willow

I used to like this song a lottttt but more recently its kinda dropped. i think i finally wore it out after listening to it on loop for like. literal days. its definitely a solid song that i still really enjoy though. the fact that its kinda low is mostly my fault lmaoo.

11. happiness

something about this song makes me cry, and out of all of taylor’s “sad” songs, this one is up there. i love it so much, but I cant listen to it if im not in the right mood, so it sometimes ends up getting skipped if im emotionally fragile or whatever.

10. champagne problems

now were getting to the problem i experience in every single album ranking i have of taylor swift’s, where there are farrr too many good songs. champagne problems is one of my favorite songs, but it took a while to grow on me. even now, its not at the top of my list, maybe because im still young and dont really relate to a lot of the singer’s experiences. music wise it slaps though

9. marjorie

i hated this song the first time i heard it. and the second time. and third and fourth and fifth and sixth. but eventually something just clicked and it gets stuck in my head at just the sound of the name. its such a good song omg idk how me from last december disliked it aaaaaaa

8. tolerate it

this was actually my number one song when evermore first released, and my love for it has not decreased. its so filled with pain and resentment and frustration, but theres so much sweet liberation in it that is so so so magical. the reason its dropped in ranking is not because my opinion on it changed, but rather because i finally stopped listening to it almost exclusively and gave other songs a chance and realized “oh shit this whole album is impeccable”.

7. Gold Rush

its just so catchy. like idk i love it theres something about it that just makes me go “oooaoaoaoaoa”. like idontlikeslowmotiondoublevisioninroseblush. fndmdndnd. it turns me into a gremlin of the best variety. (also this was the fav song of a guy i thought i liked who is now a good friend so theres a lot of nice memories attached).

6. no body, no crime

this is just. omg. i love this song. i cant like say anything about it other than “go listen to it right now”. its good. no one better disagree with me because i will cry.

5. long story short

now were getting to the ones that make me dance around my bedroom. long story short is a bop. plain and simple. good song. i have no analysis other than “wow this song is really good, top 5”.

4. its time to go

this song is so emotional and passionate, and a little existentially terrifying. but the poeticism involved is just sooooo unbelievable and the musicality is great and the lyrics and- i cant stop raving about. why are the bonus tracks always so good?

3. right where you left me

even though this is only at number three, this is my most listened to song of evermore. i have both apple music through my family and spotify, so i dont think rwylm showed up on my wrapped, but if you combined them it would probably make my top 5 most listened to songs. its incredible in its melody, lyrics, instrumentation, imagery, and every other aspect. not to mention how catchy it is, like goddamn!

2. ivy

speaking of goddamn! this is song is underappreciated everywhere, i feel like. (this may or not be true but it feels true, y’know?) The story it tells is a beautiful one, and the figurative language is multilayered and very complex. i love every moment of this song, and i absolutely cannot pick a favorite part.

And for number 1, i present: dorothea!

this took the number 1 slot fairly recently after doing a lot of climbing in the past year. it started our mid-tier for me, but the more i listened to it the more i loved it. now, it stands out as one of the cutest, most passionate songs on the album that i also feel gord underrecognized. congrats to taylor for making something so incredible!

anyways... oof. so i haven't had a chance to check twitter yet, so i'm not sure i'm in the majority or minority here when i say I'm not really into any of the deluxe songs. i started making the review and ratings like i did for crash, but i stopped after a while bc i had the same thoughts about all of them. underwhelmed by the lyrics, they all feel like forgettable songs that maybe should have stayed a demo (yes i know i'm in a hater mood today lmao). idk maybe it's the eurodance vibe that i just despise bc i grew up with that type of music showed down my throat, it's not by any means bad, just not at all my thing. but i did really like the production on selfish girl at 02:10, it felt really sophie-esque
