I haven’t seen anybody talking about this, but apparently there was an initial draft of the Golden Armory of Cornelius Coot, the scene between Webby and Della had a very different theme and message.
Webby tells Della, like we see, that she made it farther than she did at her age, and Della reveals that she did in fact make it to the armory, thought it was dumb, and ripped out the pages. It later goes on to be a conversation about how Webby has put them in competition, and they have a talk about what it’s like to be girls in a world of male adventurers. No matter how much they love the guys, they’re surrounded by men and boys, and it sounded like they actually sat down and acknowledged that.
That conversation is revolutionary in action-adventure media, especially something for kids! The whole genre is completely built on Men Who Are Daring And The One Woman Who’s Hot. I can’t think of one single time I’ve seen that acknowledgement in ANY media, and I can’t even imagine how much that conversation would have affected me as a kid, especially growing up as a Feral Outdoors Scraped Hands And Knees Girl Who Fought Monsters With Sticks™️.
They said they had a memo posted in the DT offices about “The Girl Problem With Ducktales,” talking about how important it was to bring femmes to the forefront, but at the end of the day, the message of that cut scene is galaxies more important to girls than how many times Webby uses her grappling hook. In fairness, they said they had a LOT of trouble overhauling that scene because it was important to them, but it didn’t work with the rest of the episode, and at the end of the day they had to sacrifice an incredible scene for a stronger overall episode.
That moment in and of itself deserved to be an entire episode. Having femmes blend effortlessly into an adventuring world is incredibly important, especially teaching young femmes that they can go out and have those astounding lives, but also, it is different for us, even if kids don’t understand why. It’s just how the world is built, and that’s horrifying and beyond messed up, and I have no idea how that scene would have gone, but how incredible would it be to see Thee Adventuring Girls say “Hey, we did it anyway.”
I love the thesis that Della and Webby and even Bentina are able to move freely through the world the exact same way as the others, but having two girls raised in the same situation look at each other and see in the other the only person they know with the same experience? I’m not saying they should put systemic gender discrimination into a kids show, but if gender conversations were on the table at one point, it deserved to be a whole episode.
Anyway, that’s a lot of words, but out of the entire extended art book, this stuck out miles beyond anything else they said.

i don't think some of y'all understand how significant it is that annabeth chase, the leading lady in an IP/brand as big as percy jackson, is played by a black girl. she is not some sidekick or comic relief. THEE annabeth chase, one of the wisest, intelligent, brave demigods and love of percy jackson's life, is played by a BLACK GIRL!!
but you're so hateful and caught up with book inaccuracies and changes that you can't even offer a sliver of hope for things to improve in continuing seasons, and instead immediately resort to wishing the show gets cancelled because they didn't do that specific thing in that specific scene in the books. makes me think there might be another underlying reason as to why you want it to fail.
and before someone starts, this isn't to say you can't have criticism, but if you really love percy jackson, why wouldn't your hope be for things to get better?
"i hope this show gets cancelled" yeah girl fuck you

Well, it's just, for some guys - not me - uh, but for some guys, you know, when they make it move, it gets all big and hard like a pimple and then it pops. And they say it can happen to anybody but it's still, it's, it's gross.
