You know how Eddie had that switch towards Tommy from 7x04 to 7x06 and he was lowkey judging Tommy while he and Buck were talking?
What if it was because after Buck came out to him, he realized that that comment Tommy made to him at the restaurant could've outed Buck to him if he was paying more attention to it and it pissed him off to no end?
But considering how much Buck likes Tommy, he decided to make an active effort to stay cordial to keep Buck happy while simultaneously choosing to judge the fuck outta Tommy whenever his back was turned ?

#okay i’m gonna try to keep this short and sweet. 30 tag maximum you are my nemesis lol#my main issue here is not necessarily that the karaoke and other bach party scenes have likely been cut#it’s more that they’re clearly buddie baiting for engagement#journalists were watching the episode as early as saturday. which means the ep was ready by at least this time last week#so they knew that the scenes had been cut. and they chose to continue including it in promotion and interviews#i KNOW that logically the reason they chose those scenes to cut was because they’re less important. and we’d already seen them#they technically already gave us the clips in the promo videos. right? so bye bye#but that’s bullshit. sorry#they used buddie best friendism content as a way to promote the ep and increase hype#and then they just pull it out from under us the day before it airs#this is a madney episode. madney are getting married. buddie having fun is not the most important thing here. i get it#so why did they not promote something else? you’re telling me there was NOTHING ELSE they could’ve used?#nothing else from the episode that was free of big spoilers? at all???#it’s madney’s episode but they chose to promote one clip of buddie talking to maddie. one of chim crawling. and the bach party stuff#they must know that people would focus on the bach party. buddie is beloved buck and eddie are beloved#what were they expecting??#they used buddie as a pairing as bait. not queer bait and not even ship bait i suppose as there was nothing ‘shippy’ shown#but they baited buddie content. that’s literally what’s happened#i would be more understanding if this wasn’t a regular occurrence. it’s normal sure. shows do this all the time with fan faves#but also it is a false reflection of the episode. even journalists are saying the episode is not what they expected from the promo#it honestly feels like they’ve made fools of us. maybe the episode will air and it’ll be better than expected#but i don’t have much hope not much hope for buddie. not much hope for madney getting what they deserve. ZERO hope for eddie’s 7b storyline#frankly i’m expecting b/t to be the main chat after this ep. which is……. anyway#i’m not really liking s7 so far and i feel gaslit when people say it’s great lol#IN MY OPINION it is choppy and too fast and a little ooc and doesn’t make a lot of sense#they didn’t even green light bi!buck until episode. what. 2/3??#so presumably had to change everything from then on#i know that’s partly down to limited episode numbers but… 3 eps for the cruise (unnecessary) but 1 for madney wedding? ok#sigh. if anyone’s read this far pls don’t come for me ok. these are just my opinions#we’re all entitled to them. i’m sad for madney and i’m sad for buddie best friendism and i’m sad for s7 as a whole right now

Continuing on the theme of things I've missed while S7 was airing, we have to talk about the (failed) first date. I admit it gave me too much second hand embarrassment that I usually skipped it on a rewatch. Once I managed to brave through that I realized I did miss something important, so here is another scene breakdown. Again, it's just my own interpretation.
The title of 7x05 is You Don't Know Me, that seems to be the theme of the episode: the Wilsons figuring out Mara's trauma, Eddie finding out Marisol's former nun training, Buck trying to navigate the whole dating a man thing, but they all end up making an effort to make the relationship work.
Tumblr media
The date scene starts at the end of the actual date. We don't see much of the getting to know each other stuff, but judging by their faces, it's gone pretty well. At this point they don't know about each other's movie preference yet, so Tommy picks a place where they can decide on arrival, with Buck's input. That also signifies the nature of this date, they're literally "keeping their options open" and just seeing where it goes, without any major expectation.
Tumblr media
Buck still seems visibly nervous, but Tommy reassures him that they're just two guys having dinner, it's a very ordinary thing that nobody cares.
Tumblr media
Buck pretends he's at ease, Tommy points out he seems a little tensed, but he understands Buck's worry. Tommy speaks about the masculine nature of their job and tells Buck that people are more accepting than he thinks, which sounds awfully like it's from experience.
Tumblr media
I think Buck sees it too, so he asks Tommy, who seems perfectly confident in his sexuality and masculinity, if he's been always out on a job. Tommy tells Buck about the 118 under G*rrard, this explains to the audience why Tommy seemed to be straight and a part of the boys club back in S2.
Tumblr media
So Tommy was at least aware of or questioning his sexuality at the 118. Mr. "my girlfriend is totally coming next week" and "single is much easier than scaring women" was full blown lying about his sexual orientation. Chances are he does understand Buck's nervous fumbling, as he's probably done worse in the past.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here comes the seemingly recurring theme of Buck making things all about himself, whether you agree with this or not, he does have a tendency to get stuck in his own head. Tommy assures him yet again that he's not accusing Buck of anything, he's just sharing his own experience to empathize.
Tumblr media
Tommy looks a bit surprise when Buck tells him it's his first date with a dude. It's probably new information to Tommy.
Tumblr media
And then Buck tries showing Tommy that he holds no prejudice towards queerness because he's an ally, completely oblivious to the fact that he's also one of them. Tommy tries to follow as much as he can.
Tumblr media
Tommy senses that Buck is spiraling, trying to pull out random stuff just to bring the date back on track, so he flirts with him just to lighten up the mood and for the third time of the night, reassure him of his interest in him and the rest of the night.
Tumblr media
Then Eddie and Marisol walk in, and Buck panics. I know Buck tells Maddie later that he "makes it seem like they were just hanging out", but if you go back to this scene, Tommy is the one who covers for Buck and takes the initiative to agree with Eddie and tell him they're just doing normal bro hangout stuff.
Tumblr media
7 seaons in, we all know Buck doesn't have the best luck with first dates. The more he likes someone, the more likely it is for him to mess it up. So of course he has to self-sabotage here and drag Tommy into the closet with him, even though Tommy's already covered for him and Eddie is ready to move on. Tommy doesn't like mad here, he looks disappointed.
Tumblr media
For what it's worth, Buck's hot chick comment actually makes things worse. Look at how confused Eddie's reaction is.
Tumblr media
This snarky joke from Tommy has caused some controversy among part of the fandom. Some believe that Tommy could've outed Buck with it, but I beg to differ. Eddie knows Buck very well, Buck has always dated women. On the other hand, Eddie has never heard of Tommy dating a woman, he might have attributed it to the recency of their friendship, but that's why he immediately makes the connection in his head that Tommy is gay when Buck comes out to him later in the episode. Even if Eddie had superhuman intuition and understood the double entendre of this closet comment, Tommy would be outing himself, not Buck.
Tumblr media
Here is another controversial moment: Tommy doesn't explain anything to Buck until the Uber is here, and he just leaves him there. First, Buck is a grown man, he can get himself home, there is no concern for his safety. Second, Tommy has every right to leave the date if he doesn't vibe with it. When Tommy tells Buck he's adorable, I don't think he's referring to Buck's overall demeanor. I think he means that Buck's nervous fumbling into queerness doesn't scare him, he actually finds it quite endearing. But after reassuring him 3 times, even going as far as telling Eddie, someone they can trust, that they're just hanging out, Buck still feels the need to make the hot chick comment and push them both into the closet, Tommy realizes that things would not go any better if they continue the date. Buck has not fully processed the fact that he's bisexual and he's dating a man. I'm sure Tommy really likes Buck as well, he want to make it work, so to him, the best course of action at the moment is to take a step back and let Buck figure things out himself first.
Tumblr media
To Buck this may sound like Tommy is letting him down easy, but I think Tommy is consciously not shutting anything down here. He absolutely will see Buck around, he's still Eddie's friend. Tommy knows they will have to talk about it in the future, but for now, it's best to put a pause on things just to give Buck some space to process. What Tommy doesn't know is that Buck has been dumped so many times that he thinks this is it.
Therefore, not only does Tommy never intend to out Buck during the date, he is willing to keep things ambiguous for Buck's comfort. Ultimately, it isn't enough for Buck, so Tommy takes a step back for Buck to figure things out on his own.

People who are saying now is not the time for Buck and Eddie to get together, I think that's wrong.
Now, would have been the perfect time.
IF TIM MINEAR DIDN'T COME AND RETCONNED 6 SEASONS OF CHARACTERS DEVELOPMENT!
Eddie was post therapy, he was happier, he was ready for whatever was coming next, at first with Buck until he slapped him in the face with that "I feel like she sees me" crap line.
And Buck would have gone through his own process, of dealing with his death and discovering his sexuality, and S7 finale would have been THE TIME to get it right and step in the buddie direction.
What happened though was more like this - Here's male Abby, he will see Buck as a sex object and not make much effort, because like Abby he just wants someone to wear his sexy underwear for and get down and dirty even though Buck has not even officially popped his gay cherry (I am astonished it hasn't even been discussed or researched on the show yet, but he's having dinner at the loft with T and get a daddy joke while trying to be serious and vulnerable.)
And on the Eddie front was more like - Here's Ana 2.0 - she will be a wall flower and kinda get cheated on by the blonde ghost of his ex-wife. She will be gone with no explanation, because she didn't mean anything to begin with other than be a hand bag for a while and then blonde Shannon will haunt Eddie for real against his will and cause a tear between him and his son as dessert for an already terrible season.
So no, it's not true that now is not the time for them to get together, because the only time either Buck or Eddie made sense and felt like a familiar echoes of themselves is when they were together playing off each other.
"Do what you always do."
Eddie doesn't need therapy, we just need to wake up from this nightmare and reset back to the end of S6.

i'm finally watching the finale of 9-1-1 season 4. can we get more of mehta please? bring him back 👨‍🚒. buck hauling eddie bodily into the truck? a sight to behold 🥵. buck playing medic? love that 🩹.
on a main note: the opening sequence, but especially that lengthy moment where buck tells eddie to hold on, that's pretty gay lbr. idk how y'all survived watching this live with ppl saying you were crazy for reading into it. because i see it, i get it.
i've been watching the series for the first time and haven't really seen much to ship up until this point. but the entire opening scene is the first big buddie moment for me tbh. i mean there was the mud-well collapse, and the 'go for the title' kitchen scene, but i can't really think of any other standout moments that made me recognise what the shippers were latching onto (some of the christmas stuff was pretty cute though).
i do think a great majority of the moments up to this point have been one-sided by buck (unconsciously) - which i love, because obviously we now have canon bi!buck so it makes sense for his character - even if it wasn't confirmed or intended back then it now exists as evidence of his bisexuality. and even though i think s7!buck (and beyond) doesn't harbor any lingering romantic or sexual feelings for eddie, i do think he had them through the years without realising, and then those unrealised feelings shifted and faded.
anyways. i think it does buck's character a disservice to not acknowledge the buddie in his history, whether by the fandom at large or by those involved with the show. i still wouldn't call myself a buddie shipper (yet?) but this episode opener (and i assume a good portion of the remaining ep) is very much about them - or more accurately: about buck's feelings for eddie (and yes, it also highlights buck's tendency to feel things more starkly, intensely, and unrestrained than others, especially when his loved ones are hurt). there are certainly buddie threads throughout the series so far but i don't think it's a stretch to say this ep is the most intense and noticible of buddie story weaves - even if it's only one-sided; but is it? tbd.
but back to this ep: we deserve to see buck covered in blood once more. his blood, a victim's blood, a loved one's blood.. it's been too long. 🫠

Lady Whistledown... I told you they are watching you. I am sorry if you get an uptick of anon hate. But honestly, it's probably a lot of spam because they are bleeding numbers. The ones getting left behind are the falling on the sword type. They will exist to hate watch, be miserable, and blame us for everything.
Listen, though, let's step into the Qanon corner of Narnia..... They are more mad at Oliver and have been since after E6. Ryan, they are raging at because they think he's "stealing" their story. Honestly, though, the saddest thing is how much they want Gavin to stay gone. They truly believe that if he's missing, it's the only opportunity for Buck to be free and only focus on Tommy.
So, back in reality again, I don't think I need to tell you why we laugh at the above. I don't think they are tacky enough to ever properly treat or speak about him the way they do Oliver and Ryan. But they would trade Lou for Galvin in a heartbeat.
And that actually IMHO shows why they aren't true fans of the show. Eddie and Christopher have been a huge part of what makes 911, 911. Especially with Buck and, by extension, the Bobby of it all. Taking away that aspect would turn the audience off. They are there for these relationships. I would even bet that a lot of the GA doesn't even really remember Tommy that much while they are vacationing this summer. They remember the sad scene of Christopher leaving and Buck with Eddie, you know?
Hi, love 🩷
Honestly, it's been mostly some rage bait that's just making me laugh hysterically, compared to some shit it was quite entertaining lol
The Ryan thing doesn't make sense because it was posted by the 911 account and clearly filmed when they were still shooting s7, so how the fuck is Ryan masterminding whatever this is to "steal" the story when that was filmed months ago and Ryan had no way of knowing when it was going to be released and the way both Oliver and Ryan have been pretty consistent talking about the bachelor party since before the season started. But the Gavin thing foul. If they even reach that level with Gavin shit will get real fast. Glad they have enough common sense to keep that one to themselves, I was starting to get worried they lacked it completely.
And honestly, you can love or hate whatever, but watching the show while hating Eddie has to be a miserable experience. And honestly, that's true, the general audience is gonna remember Eddie, Chris and Buck's involvement in that, not the 60 seconds dinner because the Chris leaving thing has major implications on the plot. And it's dramatic and sad. It's what people wanna see. Taking away Eddie would be a problem, because again, Eddie is one of the main characters. He will forever be a core part of the show.

This is what gets me when people write in depth analysis about how dumb they would be to not go there with queer Eddie and with Buddie. Like yes, I agree it would be incredibly stupid and bad writing - unfortunately as much as I want that to reassure me(and I’ll admit some days when I’m sad and need to not be I pretend to let it), it doesn’t. Just because it would be stupid and bad writing doesn’t mean they won’t do it. We’ve seen this show repeatedly make bad writing choices before. I’ve watched TV shows time and time again screw things up in the eleventh hour, I’ve seen so many shows set things up and then take a hard left turn into the dumbest plots in existence. And they get backlash for it but still do it. So as much as I want to believe that because logic and basic literary analysis says Eddie is queer and Buck and Eddie are each others’ best match - that isn’t a guarantee of anything. I’m also preparing myself that if we actually do get a queer Eddie storyline and buddie canon - there is a high possibility that they stumble through it in a ridiculous and poorly written way. I want more than anything for that not to be true but it is still a very distinct possibility.
this is exactly my feelings- like one of my biggest pet peeves are people making posts as if buddie is 10000% happening and there is absolutely zero possibility of it not going that way which i’m sorry to be a debbie downer once again but that’s just not true
what kills me is everyone in the fandom keeps talking about “it’d be so ooc for _______”, seemingly forgetting the fact that s7 was ooc for so many of the main characters to the point that we were all ragging on the writers about it… like if they were able to write a season so sloppy and terribly ooc what makes you think they won’t continue to do so, especially after tim just said “i don’t like to plan out seasons”
ooc writing happens in tv shows all the time. just because something wouldn’t make sense for a character/plotline doesn’t mean they won’t just do it anyway. like I’ve said before, tim has shown us that he only cares about shock value and drama- telling us himself in a interview that “i can’t just let them be happy, then no one would watch” (which is such total bullshit but this is the man who decided to make eddie have an emotional affair with a doppelgänger of his dead wife rather than just, yk, confirm his queerness)
i get it. it’s disappointing. you don’t want your favorite shows/characters to tank and go off the rails. but unfortunately, it has happened time and time and time again in network tv, and 9-1-1 is not immune to this.
i fully agree with the posts and analyses that detail how the show has set up buddie being the only satisfactory endgame relationship between them, and how it would be foolish and bad writing for them not to, but unfortunately (as you said in your ask) this show has made god awful writing choices frequently (literally the entirety of s7 is proof of that) and they have jumped through hoops to avoid buddie canon countless times— there is nothing stopping them from doing it again.
and this idea that just because they’re talking about buddie openly must mean they’re going canon is ridiculous. the short is reaching the end if it’s run; if it even gets renewed past s8, it’s very unlikely that they’ll go past s10 at the longest. they just moved to a new network, baited the fuck out of buddie pre-s7 and then didn’t give us anything and people are still watching. they know that as long as people think there’s a possibility of buddie canon that they’ll watch the show— it’s textbook queer/shipbaiting. 9-1-1 is not immune to this just because they’ve said “we don’t want to be accused of queerbaiting” in the past. we’ve reached a point where the network queerbaiting won’t cause enough backlash to warrant them being cautious anymore. it’s a dick move, yeah, but these creators are in this job for one thing: money. they have proven they don’t actually give a fuck about meaningful storytelling. it’s why they rely on cheap drama and shock value to get by bc they know people will tune in anyway.
i completely understand wanting to be hopeful and optimistic. i will forever be hopeful for the day that buddie finally go canon (although i hope they ditch the mustache before then because i don’t want to think of my alcoholic uncle when i see eddie kiss buck for the first time) and when it does i will be so fucking happy after waiting for 6 years.
but that’s the thing. i have waited for 6 years. i’m tired of getting my hopes up each season bc “guys this is literally the closest we’ve ever been there is no way they aren’t going to go there now” just to get slapped in the face by the showrunners and writers. i’m not going to get my hopes up about it just to be let the fuck down once again. and frankly, i don’t wanna see the fallout when we are let down again because people decided to convince themselves that it was 100% for sure set in stone happening when in reality it’s really not.

it's funny because aside from the crazies the normal BT fans don't like the scene because it's confirming this relationship is very much just extremely casual and about just sex. this situationship is gonna end in s8 for sure. oliver knows this as well which is why he doeosn't touch this shit wiht a ten foot pole also the way they harass him and ryan in his dm's and attack ryan and they're shocked oliver blocks their asses when they attack one of his best friends whom btw both oliver and ryan are already captains of a ship which pisses them off i'm sure.
I honestly can't wait to see that nothing of a ship go down in flames. That fandom has been insufferable to deal with and not just for the Buddie fandom but like you pointed out some of them have harassed Oliver and Ryan and even journalists. They've also spammed the 911 accounts with B*mmy comments and they message Tim all the time.
I have no problem with people who ship something different than me but I really can't wait for T*mmy to be gone because ever since that ship became a thing the entire 911 fandom has been worse off.
I blame Lou and his cameos for some of this though because if he hadn't been feeding into their delusions and giving them attention some of the more zealous ones might not have gotten as out of hand as they have. I also think without the cameos those fans might have had a more realistic picture of where things were headed. Instead some of them firmly believe that s7 was setting up T*mmy to be Buck's endgame love interest.
I get being hopeful and rooting for your ship but they completely ignore what's actually being shown on screen while somehow also acting like canon is the only thing that matters. Make it make sense. 🤦‍♀️Like they attack people simply for celebrating Eddie as a queer character because they haven't said he's queer on the show so that's not allowed. Nevermind the fact that no one said Buck was queer before season 7 but he still is and has been. They call us delusional for still shipping Buddie and wanting to see them together yet Buddie had way more screen time than B/T. And what screen time they did have was also some of the most important Eddie and Buck had all season. Their relationship came out of s7 deeper than it has ever been.
Mostly I just hope that they're not going to attack Oliver and Ryan when that ship inevitably ends. Because Buddie or no Buddie I 100% don't see B*mmy lasting beyond s8. I know they'll blame us but I don't want to see Oliver disappear from social media when a portion of them get smacked in the face with the reality that this was never meant to be a long term ship. I wish they'd realize this is why he's not promoting that ship. He knows to some degree where this storyline is heading and he doesn't want to get peoples hopes up.

Hello ! Hope I'm not bothering you but I just wanted to share something you can ignore it if you want. It's regarding buddie, a lot of people (and rightfully so) have been scared and frustrated that we didn't get at least a smidge of hint towards canon, but I think they can't ever give us that because if they even hint it as there is no going back it would be like a train going full speed and breaking down everything in it's path. Everyone will know this is it no stopping and im pretty sure if (when) they do buddie they either gonna use a full season to build it or surprise us in the best way possible. So while I was also sad and frustrated I'm holding on to that.
Sorry I saw a lot of people thinking since we didn't get a hint it was doomed and with all the drama and all the hurt in the fandom as of late I wanted to share a but of light :)
Have a wonderful Sunday and thank you for being you :)
Thank you so much!!! This is such lovely message and don't apologise for 'bothering me' with anything or sharing your opinions ever!!! Even if I disagreed with you you are allowed to have a voice and discuss things with people, I'm sorry that sometimes these spaces can be hostile.
I COMPLETELY agree with you, I didn't really think they would do buddie canon this season or ever before S7, and now it feels wayyy closer than it's ever been. We barely got hints for bi buck (in a canonical and acknowledged way, like in interviews and stuff. I mean we have had bi buck hints for seasons but that didn't mean they were going to canonise it).
Sometimes I have to step back and look at what was done this season:
- Buck was confirmed to be bisexual
- it was established that Buck's main concern with having kissed a man was what Eddie would think, and what it would mean for them, and that Eddie and Chris are more important to Buck than other romantic interests
- Buck and Eddie were all over each other when drunk and Buck ripped off Eddie's shirt and they danced with drag queens and dressed as a queer coded couple, and argued over who was Crockett, the heavily bi coded character (if I remember correctly?)
- the Buckley parents AND Diaz parents are aware of Buck and Eddie's closeness
- Eddie goes to Buck with problems with Chris, relationship problems, and Eddie corrects Buck when he is self-deprecating
- Eddie and Buck do karaoke together in a Madney centred episode.
- OS confirmed in an interview that Buck was probably attracted to Eddie in 2x01.
- Maddie is massively aware of Buck's confusion about Eddie, and how important they are to each other.
- Eddie calls Buck when he can't communicate with Chris. Or when he thinks Buck can be something for Chris that Eddie can't, but he's not threatened by it. This is a cyclical plot in the season, so it's been massively highlighted to the GA.
- Eddie is self-destructive and Buck stays.
- more metaphors through lasagne, kitchens, doors.
- Eddie has not processed his relationship with Shannon and has to evaluate who he is without Chris and the Diaz parents now, who represent Eddie having built himself into a person for his family and who he's expected to be, rather than who he wants to be.
- Eddie's inability to recognise how shit he is at dating women is literally damaging his soul.
- Eddie knows can't have Shannon back, he can't get another version of Shannon, he has to stop hiding in the shadow of a life he never had
- Bobby/Eddie parallels are heavily shown, and we had Athena/Buck parallels in 704, when both of them had to explore their identity and commitments to the people around them.
Not sure if this is all coherent sorry but I hope some of it makes sense!!! Tysm for your message, have a great day!!!

I'm barely hanging by a thread with this show.
The amount of PR that Oliver has done about Bucks storyline and Buddie has been overkill. To the point, where of Buddie doesn't happen after talking about it so much that headlines and clickbait have been created, they're going to look like they've just been shipbaiting to pull in the viewers!
Tommy and the homophobe/transphobe need to go. Lou's weird "thriving" video gives me the impression they're deffo not thriving! And the other one needs to go for obvious fucking reasons!
The whole Bi storyline would've been better coming from Eddie. They could've had Buck single and Eddie discovering himself like it was originally going to be. It would've been so much more interesting to watch!
But I do think the fact that the season only has 10 episodes has put a damper on things, too!
oh i agree with everything!!! it's definitely giving shipbait (for now) i feel like Oliver is saying unhinged Buddie stuff because, in his prospective, they can't really call him out for queerbaiting anymore, since Buck is canon bi now. But I really hope I'm wrong and that he actually knows that Buddie is endgame or something!
I'm still conflicted about Lou video to be honest, I'd rather if he wasn't there at all lmao but if he's there just to make things awkward and they are really NOT thriving then i Could be ok with it. for the Edy situation... idk how she even got in s7 to begin with, i know it's because Natalia actress wasn't available and Tim didn't want both of them to start off as single but they could have just went with a replacement and no one would have noticed 💀 big hope is that she will be bones before the season finale tho! No one likes her and the foreshadowing about them breaking up has been crazy (never date someone you met on a call, bobby convo etc)
Anon you have no idea I've been terrorizing my bestie about EddieTommy for WEEKS i still wouldn't like Tommy as a character but it would have made so much more sense and it would have been way more groundbreaking than BuckTommy! if episode 100 have zero haters I'm dead I REALLY HATE the whole execution and how they switched characters and keep making Buck and Eddie interchangeable cuz that will never be right and it will never sit well with me for various reasons (racism is the racism). And I've been wanting Buck to be single for the longest time let the man be alone and get to know himself for the love of God!
This season worst problem is that they are writing it as they go and they are really rushing things and you can really tell that they have no idea where the plot is going and the season being only 10 episodes make it so much worse :( hope season 8 will save us from this hell but if the last 5 episodes of the season don't get any better idk if i will survive to watch season 8 they are really making it hard for me and I've been watching the show since 2019!
Also i want to thank you for sending me your thoughts! I got so excited when i saw an ask in my inbox 🥰 this is a safe space for hating! I'm a yapper and a hater!!

so i posted a couple days ago about some buddie predictions for s7 but my thoughts have changed so here's my final answer before s7 airs.
I don't think we're going to get buddie together this season. HOWEVER, i do think there will be some seeds planted. based on the way Oliver and Ryan are talking about their characters and their self-discovery it seems like there might be some sexuality/romance self-discovery, at least for Buck, maybe for Eddie. but the way they're talking also feels like they don't want fans to get over excited, if only so we don't get disappointed. Oliver saying "I know how that's going to be taken", and Ryan's comments about men just being vulnerable with friends make me think that there isn't going to be much romance between them this season. also the fact that they're moving to a new network means they get new creative freedoms, but also means that they have to reintroduce these characters, which means going back to their (the characters') roots a bit, and spending some time just establishing who these people are to a new audience. combine that with the fact that this season is only 10 episodes (3 of which are about the cruise ship), and this is an ensemble show, I don't think they're going to have two major characters completely change their ideas of themselves, and get involved together.
that being said, TM also promised buddie dynamics in each episode, starting off with Buck and Eddie trying to help Chris with dating. and of course we have the madney wedding (and suspiciously burnt/ripped/missing clothes) so romance is in the air.
So here's where I'm at tumblr: I think that this season Buck will have some sort of sexual/romantic awakening, be it a bi awakening or an Eddie awakening. I don't think we're going to get much on Eddie's side, or if we do it will be much less blatant. between the two of them, Buck is the one who always wears his heart on his sleeve and is constantly open about his life, while Eddie is more quiet and closed-off, and this tends to reflect in their writing. I think the beginning and middle of the season will reintroduce them as best friends, maybe with a little something more in the background, but not too much to be undeniable. then, the last couple episodes will possibly (hopefully) lay on a bit more subtext so that the last episode ends with 1. a kiss/confession/date bathena style where the first few months of their relationship happens between seasons, or 2. enough to imply that their romance will be at the forefront of their arcs/relationship next season
(personally, I'm hoping for the second one because even though we might have to wait longer for confirmation, we'll get more of the beginnings of their relationship)
Edit: So I wrote this before "I love you to the core" dropped and now I'm leaning a bit more towards buddie becoming canon this season, but in the sense that they are coming to terms with their feelings for each other, not necessarily getting together. I don't think there needs to be a period of dating men to try it out for either of them, but I do think that best friends to crushes to boyfriends is a bit too fast for a 10-episode season of an ensemble show

fuck it friday!
it's saturday but i'm saying fuck it and therefore don't care. here's another bit from my post-s7 eddie fic, wherein ravi casually comes out to eddie and eddie tries very hard not to think about himself. we're gonna unrepress him i swear it's just gonna take a few chapters thanks @inell and @diazsdimples for the tags! tagging anyone else who wants to say fuck friday let's do this on saturday <3
“I mean, yeah, it sucks”, Ravi says, “but we’ll figure it out, you know? And it’s not like I’m in this alone. I have you guys on shift, and Bobby’s always around anyway, and I get to go home to my fiance every night, and he’s the best, so. I can handle it.”
Eddie nods, brain reeling from what he’s just learned. A new bit of ‘Ravi lore’, as Buck would call it. He wonders if Buck knows about this.
“Anyway,” Ravi continues, seemingly completely unaware that he’s thrown Eddie for a loop, “did I tell you what my fiance called Gerrard last week? It was so funny, he said that Gerrard’s just a–”
“You have a fiance?” Eddie blurts out.
Ravi looks at him as if he’s the one being weird. It’s stupid, considering Ravi is the one throwing truths into the parking lot at seven in the morning.
“Uh, yes?” Ravi’s expression doesn’t let up in the slightest. “We’ve been together for years. I proposed to him when he got me McDonalds at three in the morning two months ago. It’s pretty cool.”
Ravi rambles on, either not noticing or not caring that Eddie isn’t fully paying attention anymore.
Because honestly, Eddie not knowing Ravi is seeing someone kind of tracks. He’s private like that, and really, Eddie is pretty convinced it’s not so much because he likes to keep work and private stuff separate, and more because Ravi likes the chaos he creates when he drops things like being a landlord and almost going to the national ultimate frisbee championships before deciding to become a firefighter instead into casual conversation. So no, that’s not what Eddie is hung up on.
It’s the pronoun of it all, he thinks, and he has one horrible moment of thinking oh no, am I homophobic before realising that that’s kind of bullshit. Because what he’s feeling right now isn’t disgust or anything.
It’s envy, he thinks. Maybe longing, too. Because Ravi drops his queerness into conversation so casually, not even pausing before going on about how he’s met his fiance – Eddie picks up something about crochet and strawberry allergies and protests, which makes no sense whatsoever yet sounds very Ravi – and here Eddie is, feelings buried so deep within the well it makes him nauseous to try and dig them up.
Eddie doesn’t dare pick up the shovel. Hasn’t done so in years.
He doesn’t want to think about what he might unearth if he tries.

oooooooooh both the proposal snippet and the s7 fight snippet look SO freaking good. i know they’re probably both gonna break my heart a little bit, but you just do it so well that i can’t even be upset about it. what a gift for my day today. can’t wait to read the rest!!!
Hehehe. Here’s Buck drowning
“Alright,” Buck calls, voice getting hoarse from yelling to be heard over the roar of the water. “Let’s h-“
Something heavy slams directly into the center of his chest, knocking the air out of his lungs and any hope of finishing the sentence with it. He’s submerged immediately, and the impact was strong enough to make him lose his grip on the rope stretched across the river. Even with no air and who knows how far underwater he doesn’t panic, because he has the secondary line tethering him to the guide rope, he just has to wait for it to snap tight and follow it back to the surface.
The tug does not come.
He’s tumbling, no way of knowing which way is up, current too strong to fight against in any direction anyway. The only location marker he has is when everything gets dark. He must have reached the tunnel entrance already. He lashes out, trying to find the edge of it. Not that that would really help, he still wouldn’t be able to pull himself back out the entrance. Fuck. Panic starts to creep in. 40 yards. On a good day, with a lungful of air, he could do it easy. But he’s already half exhausted from the rescue and he certainly doesn’t have full lungs. Fuck. Fuck. Eddie was a foot away, Buck can’t believe this is happening again, he wants to scream but that would waste what little oxygen he has. He might be crying but there’s no way to tell in the dirty floodwater of the LA river. He doesn’t want to go like this, he doesn’t want Eddie to have seen it, to live the rest of his life guilty. His chest is starting to burn. He doesn’t want to go at all, he doesn’t want to die, not when he hasn’t made Eddie laugh again yet, it’s not fair, he just needs a little more time, they’ll be okay if they just have a little more time, fuck they’ll be so good together, he can’t die now, and he’s getting dizzy but he can’t die now, because he hasn’t told Eddie how beautiful his cheeks are and how nice his laugh is and how his sleepy face in the morning makes Buck want to cry because it’s too soft and vulnerable to be seen by anybody but he trusts Buck with it anyway and Buck just wants him to be safe forever and he’s seeing black spots now and he can’t really feel the cold bite of the water anymore and he needs to remind Eddie about signing the permission slip paper he forgot about in the glove compartment of the truck and he needs to- he needs to- come on Buckley you talk too much even in your head, are you really going to die in the middle of a
Pressure, on his chest, and then his face.
Again.
And again, and then his chest is spasming and gently frantic hands are turning him on his side as he vomits up water. Coughs up? He’s not sure if he’s expelling liquid form his lungs or his gut, it all burns either way. As he chokes on bile and gasps in oxygen in alternating turns other senses start to come back online. He’s fucking freezing, his chest hurts most but there other aches and pains all over his body. He’s soaked to the bone, obviously. And there’s a warmth, a weight above him, noisy exhales. Eddie. Bent over him like his body is a shield, making sounds that might be sobs even if they sound like relief. Buck’s body is clumsy, muscles not quite listening to him, but he scrambles a hand up best he can to tangle it in Eddie’s water rescue gear as he keeps coughing. There’s a pressure- Eddie’s hand, on the back of his skull, just holding on. Then more sounds, voices.
“-hear me?” Hen, somewhere nearby. “Buck, can you-“
“Yeah,” Buck gets out, though it sounds mostly like a groan. Eddie gasps, and there’s light as he sits up and Buck is no longer cradled beneath him. Buck’s fingers are still hooked on the fabric of Eddie’s suit so his arm follows him up, turning his body skywards with the motion. He blinks a few times, trying to clear the images going from his eyeballs to his brain. Then he wishes things were a little blurrier again because the full force of Eddie’s distraught face has always been awful to behold. “E-Eds-“
Eddie is moving, grabbing a flashlight and waving it across Buck’s eyes. He tries not to flinch at how bright it is. “Pupils equal and- and-“ Eddie’s face crumples and rebuilds itself in the span of a second, and he clears his throat. “Pupils equal and reactive. “Do you know what day it is? Where you are?”
“W- Wednesday.” His words are still a little slurred and he sounds like he’s been eating gravel. He takes a breath as he glances around. Mud, dirt, scrub, concrete. When he tilts his head back he can see the bridge with the tunnel a little ways away. Fuck. “River. We were… doing a rescue.”
Crumple, rebuild. Eddie looks away from his face and over his body, hands following the trail of his eyes. “Are you hurt?”
Buck takes inventory as best as he can. Chest fucking hurts but he doesn’t think anything is broken. He wonders what hit him. He wiggles his fingers and toes, all good there. He’s cold. His head hurts but he doesn’t think it's because he hit it on anything. “M’alright.” He curls a little, trying to sit up.
“Careful, hey, easy.” Chimney. Is everybody here? Chim and Hen on either side of him help get him upright, Eddie kneeling in front of him with his mouth set in a crooked line. “Jesus, Buckaroo, only your luck…”
“What’appened?” He keeps looking at Eddie, and when they make eye contact Eddie crumples again, and it takes longer to put up scaffolding this time. Buck wants to reach out to him but exhaustion has slammed into his limbs like a train. Or a large piece of debris floating in a river, he supposes.
“Something hit you, broke your line,” Hen says, quiet and concerned. “You were gone so quick-“
Eddie makes a desperate little sound, face shattering entirely, and then his hands are on either side of Buck’s face and he’s being kissed. It only lasts a second or two, though Buck feels Chim’s hand around his arm tighten in surprise, and then Eddie sits back on his heels and pats his gear like he’s looking for something, a transparent attempt to pretend that didn’t happen. “Sorry.”
“Eddie,” Buck rasps, ignoring the eye contact he’s sure Hen and Chim are making over his head.
Eddie shakes his head, once, and then harder a second time. “I’m sorry,” he gets out, voice tight, a hand half reaching for Buck but stopping midair.
“Baby,” Buck says quietly, reaching out to close the distance, “I’m okay.”

Is buddie inevitable? Yes.
Should it have happened a long time ago?
Definitely. At this point they should be planning a wedding or adoption.
Am I as excited as I would have been 2-3 seasons ago?
Sadly, no. The writing was too damaging over a long time, that I simply lost interest because I already knew what was to be expected as soon as I saw the opening of every storyline, and not just for Buck and Eddie, but the entire cast.
Would I watch it if it happens?
Sure. But I won't be as excited and I am extremely disappointed in that fact.
Buddie is inevitable, but it should have been happening since Eddie was shot. Everything that followed simply ruined the fun for me, and the last season was a blow that 911 can't recover from, in my eyes, especially because of the storylines they chose to put Eddie and Christopher and Henren through.
Also, Buck's writing and characterization especially since 7x04, also rubbed me the wrong way. Not because he's bi (I've been shouting bi!Buck since S1), not because of Tommy (even though bringing him back was controversial as hell), but because of his behavior when it came to him being the attention whore who is willing to go to any length to get it, no matter who he hurts(in this case physically) on the way, and not even suffer any consequences for it, there was just general condoning to it, just because Buck is now bi. And that just pretty much sealed any excitement I may have had for that season.
Because it was in bad form and bad faith.
Eddie storyline didn't make a lick of sense for people who have been there with him through his therapy and growth in S5 and that just screamed bad trippy de ja vu all over again and ruined S7 permanently for me as well.
Eddie storyline broke my faith in this show, a standard couple getting henren's adopted second chance child, broke my faith in this show, Buck regressing to S1-3a broke my faith in the show.
Having a bad continuity error like bring back from the ashes, like freaking necromancers, the old racist and bigoted Captain who was thrown from his job after Chimney complained about him for what he was doing to Hen, broke my faith in this show.
Maybe if I was Buck blind I would have been more delulu about the upcoming season, but my eyes are sadly wide open, and I find it very hard to be excited about a movie I've seen a thousand times before repeated in many different shapeless forms over several seasons.
So yes, buddie is inevitable, but not as exciting as it would have been 2-3 seasons ago.

Gonna be the first (maybe) to say it, but if nothing comes of Buddie at all by the s7 finale, I am going to have a hard time believing any future storyline set up the show does.
To be clear, I do not think Buddie has to be canon for it finally be addressed, because I acknowledge what happened in seasons 2-6 kind of exist in a different world. It was a different network and majority of it was written with the *potential intent to have Buck be queer only to have that shot down, whereas now on their new network, Buck is canonically bi. So I am aware that the powers that be have changed, and with that, what the writers are able to do will differ.
However, I still think something should be said or done to tie those loose ends up. I still think Buddie is an unanswered entity in the 911 universe, and not putting it to rest is sour writing. Because if Tim didn’t want to touch on it, he would have said as much with 7x04. He would have crafted an episode that was definitively abut Buck wanting to be around Tommy, instead of it being ambiguous and coming across as him being jealous of Eddie choosing someone else.
And I know people who ship Buck and Tommy will say Buck said in the episode he was trying to get Tommy’s attention, but it is established in that very same moment Buck is only “guessing” Tommy is who he wanted attention from. He does not state it affirmatively, and in fact only says he guesses, after Tommy asks for clarification, because he too was surprised Buck’s actions were for him.
Now, this is not me saying Tim and the writers weren’t still intentionally aiming for Tommy, but if so, what they wrote does not make sense. So unless we’re meant to take that episode as being poorly written/constructed… I need them to go ahead and clarify things. Because how I would have crafted the episode if I knew I was aiming for Tommy not Eddie, is by:
Having a scene where Buck calls Tommy for the tour. — That establishes Buck seeking Tommy out on screen, and doesn’t leave viewers wondering how it happened.
Had Buck and Tommy run into each other so Buck could 1) ask him how the fight went, 2) have Tommy invite Buck to the basketball game, with him saying yes. — 1) would be giving them another chance to talk without Eddie, but for Tommy to sort of “gush” about how cool Eddie is and etc, solidifying the foundation of Buck’s jealousy out of fear he was being replaced. 2) would eliminate the need for Buck to peacock for Eddie in the gym, and could instead be replaced with him bragging that Tommy invited him along too, while Eddie is confused as to why Buck is excited since he doesn’t like basketball.
Shown Eddie and Tommy after the basketball game, in which Eddie expresses concern over Buck acting weird and hurting him. — It would have allowed viewers a chance to see Tommy connect the dots, then decide to go talk to Buck.
Lastly, I would have scrapped Tommy’s confusion entirely, replacing it with: “Trying to get your attention has been kind of exhausting.” — “Is that why you maimed your best friend?” — “I guess so.” — “Hmm, that’s not really my thing. I prefer talking.” “Yeah, my sister says there are better ways to get someone atten— *kiss happens*
So then, not only would that be blatant and intentional flirting from Tommy, but we’d also have known he had an idea about why Buck was acting out, and the kiss would have been less of a shock-shock (not that it truly was) for the audience and more us realizing Tommy sussed Buck out and took a chance on kissing him.
And that’s that. That is how the episode could have been definitively about Buck wanting Tommy’s attention, without changing anything major. Mind you, I’m not a showrunner nor professional writer, so I’m not going to act as if I know better than Tim.
What I will say, is I’m also not stupid and don’t see why they’d toe the line if they did not want people thinking Buck might be jealous and wanting of Eddie’s attention. Because there are only two answers, really. The first being, Tim didn’t know what the outcome would be the entire time he was writing it and couldn’t commit until he had an answer from Lou/ABC about the kiss. Or the other, Tim is actively teasing Buddie with no plans to make them canon. The latter would be fucked up, but not uncommon for television.
Either way, I said what I said. If all of this Buddie talk and intentional teasing within this season alone does not result in Buck and Eddie having a conversation about how they feel for each other, even if they do not date, there is no reason for me to believe any other storylines are being written with intent. Because there’s also only two ways this can go. Buddie is acknowledged and is shut down (a fair choice if that’s not the story Tim wants to tell) or Tim can act like he never dropped hints and that Buddie shippers were sadly looking to close despite what was said in 7x04, again, even though the episode plays both sides.
If he chooses the latter, that means he simply has lost his ability to craft interesting stories. And while I’ll still watch the show, because I genuinely love every character, it won’t matter to me what is being built up, because he could just as easily decide I as a viewer was looking too hard and only have myself to blame for misunderstanding what was written. That’s not a fun way to enjoy a show. Feeling like nothing matters when it feels like it should, just because the writers and show runner want to be chaotic or “subvert expectations”.
It’s why The Magicians went downhill fast after Quentin died. All that build up between he and Eliot for 3 seasons, followed by a 4th season of Quentin letting himself be tormented in attempt to save Eliot from being trapped inside the mind of a monstrous, magical killing machine, just to kill Q off before Eliot returned. Before either of them got to reconcile their love for each other and experience any sort of happiness together going forward.
I’m not saying 911 would ever be so dramatic, but am using it as an example of how to piss your audience off (not that Buddie shippers make up the majority of the audience) for no reason. It’s a great example of how crafting a story just to end it abruptly, then claim it as some profound and deep choice viewers just don’t understand about storytelling, is weak. It’ll be a poor excuse, and lead to me, at least, deciding to not actively care about how any storyline is crafted. I’m sure the show will continue to entertain me, again, I do love it, but the story building of each season won’t be my concern. I’ll watch whatever they show and take it as is, no expectations or theories, because what would be the point?
..
The (*) is because it is unclear to me whether or not any of this plan was actually written and shown on air, so people who say s4 was definitely leading to Buddie happening… I must disagree. Unless something else was said to confirm such, I can only go off of how I know episodes are usually pitched. Which is during meetings and stuff, either before or as they’re written. So Tim (or whoever) might have pitched the idea to FOX to have Buck be queer in s4, but that doesn’t mean they ended up airing the build up at all. What we’ve seen from s4 could very well be the consultation prize of sorts. Giving Buddie bigger emotional moments since Buck being queer was already shut down. That doesn’t mean Eddie was also planned to be queer back then or that Buddie was going to happen. Buck could have easily been dealing with unrequited feelings.

Low key on Oliver and Ryan. Since we know they watch us. I think he was offended at people turning on Ryan. Sure they probably don't have scripts yet but they know the direction and were probably already told you know? It's why he never promoted the pairing or followed Lou. Especially when the other side made the attacks on Ryan so personal. It's a double offense really. They built this ship. Do you think Oliver is cool getting all the accolades and leaving Ryan behind for a wal mart version of Eddie??? Just know the other side, Oliver is judging you!!
That's my Roman Empire 😂
Full conspiracy theory, but I keep saying Ryan has known where it's going and that's why he was locked into pr jail, and Oliver was just brought into the inner circle and that's why he looks so frustrated, but here's the thing, Oliver and Ryan know what they have in their hands when it comes to the impact buddie could have, there's no way they don't, and obviously, they would want that, the amount of exposure they could get from this is insane, and Oliver seems annoyed, just look at the way he refuses to talk about bt long or like you said, didn't follow Lou, or the absolute insanity of opening his Instagram after 710 just to like a video of the thumb thing and nothing else. Realistically dude is probably frustrated that Buck being bi stopped being about Buck, trapped him in a ship war and made people turn on the thing they've been working on for yeaaaaars and the way Lou was encouraging it probably didn't help. I don't blame Lou for capitalizing, if people wanted to pay me 145 dollars to talk out of my ass about a ship I would be doing it too, hell, I'm running this blog for free kapakapka. But my thing is, the plan was Eddie going first and that got switched mid production, so, again conspiracy theory, my thought process here is that Oliver and Ryan were told "okay abc is cool with it, we're pulling the trigger" because that would explain the way they were acting that week leading up to the season premiering, the way Ryan was just saying shit and Oliver was in a perpetual state of blushing, but then T was better received than expected and the showrunners decided to capitalize on that for longer than anticipated, because looking at it from a business perspective, they already had s8 confirmed and they are probably expecting the same level of exposure they got from Buck being bi to come from Eddie being queer, especially because Eddie being queer means buddie going canon, so delaying Eddie's arc because they want to make the most of the publicity makes sense (rip Eddie confirmed queer by family feud, we will make it true, I promise), it would explain why Ryan changed his tune during the promo for 707 and 709, but switch back after 710 and it would also explain why Buck was pushed to the background during that space too. Tim keeps saying he doesn't have a plan, while I do believe he doesn't have the exact plot, I REFUSE to believe someone can manage to setup a love story like buddie accidentally and just going with the flow. A show is a living organism in a way a book or a movie won't be because it needs to adjust to the circumstances in which it's airing, but I cannot believe they don't have some sort of outline with the ideas they want to give, the general way they want to get there and the endgame of the situation. And I've been saying this since s6 and the very blatant switch in tone with Buck and Eddie in 6b when they thought they were gonna get cancelled that they promptly pretended wasn't there once s7 started. If I, a girl with a blog in the middle of nowhere Brazil getting absolutely nothing out of it, can see that buddie can accomplish something that doesn't exist in media, there isn't a slow burn queer relationship where both characters were not introduced as queer that go through so much together they can't help but falling in love in a media that isn't about queer themes, hell, I can't think of one from something about queer themes, you think people who have been working on this for years can't see it too? Come on, Oliver knows that Buck ending up with walmart Eddie is worst case scenario when compared to the thing he could have if buddie goes canon. And Ryan is his friend, Buck is this thing he pours his soul into, of course he will want the best possible thing there. He so is judging the other side. Dude admitted to crying in the shower to buddie edits. They read fanfiction. Like, come oooooon, they are driving the clown car, cocaptains of the ship.
